Since I have seen a post or two floating around recently on the topic: natural medicine is not inherently better than synthetic medicine. In fact, it’s arguably less effective. Chamomile has lovely antiseptic properties, but you know what works better? Betadine. Lavender is great to calm you down, but will it pull you out of a panic attack? No, that’s what Diazepam is for. There is a time and a place for herbal remedies, but certain things plants simply cannot help.
Don’t entrust your healthcare to someone on the internet. Ask your doctor and, if you must, see a certified herbalist.
The degree to which herbal supplements are unregulated continues to appal me
And by “unregulated” I don’t just mean that there’s no medical proof that the supplement you take works (there isn’t)
I mean also that no one checks to see if any supplement says it contains what it says it contains
This is an industry that has happily killed hundreds of people who never knew why their bodies were dying because they didn’t even know supplements were unregulated. It’s so hard for medical doctors to trace symptoms back to any one distributor’s batch of “immune system booster.” People have died of failing organs and cancers whose mystery causes no one will ever find out. We have learned the reasons for some of these deaths, but many more we’ll never catch. Those people died confused and in pain due to the corporate greed of companies that still get to present themselves as “natural” and “healthy”
The supplements industry has so much blood on its hands but people still think it’s safe and that’s just monstrous
this crazy NY weather has me feeling a bit under the weather. i made myself a mini apothecary to take to work with me : a couple tea light candles, eucalyptus essential oil, and matches of course. just a little something to help ease my symptoms until i can get home.
not pictured is all the water, tea, and honey i am also going to go through during my shift…
Biden’s alba - a great addition to any plant medicine tool belt! Not only are the flowers great for urinary antibiotic uses , but the leaves/stems make a great spinach replacement for a foraged diet. <3
I'm not against modern medicine by any means, but if I can find a natural way to treat something that's effective enough without as high of a risk, I'm taking that route. I've already replaced my depression medication with St John's Wort which I found growing in my yard. I don't want it taking over the native plant life if I can help it, but I'll definitely work on cultivating it more. Gotta figure out how to transplant it best. Next thing to figure out: sleep medication that isn't likely to fuck up my liver. Trying pineappleweed tonight. That's a native plant I can cultivate anywhere without worry. I got English lavender potted, but it's still gotta grow more before it's good to harvest. The chinook hops are also getting ready to flower about now, I see them budding.
If you come to me to suggest anything... fuck off with all of that essential oil bs.
The Dutch test surpasses blood tests in assessing hormone levels due to its comprehensive approach, which tracks hormone fluctuations throughout the day via urine and saliva samples.
This method offers greater precision, accurately representing hormonal patterns over time, and is more convenient for women
Black cottonwood has long been used medically. It’s sap has antiseptic properties that nameless it great in a salve for burns and cuts. Feeling *pretty*accomplished. ☺️
