🌟✨LUNAR BOY GETS A THIRD STARRED REVIEW FROM SCHOOL LIBRARY JOURNAL!!🌟✨
Our little moon boy now has starred reviews from Kirkus, Publisher's Weekly, and now SLJ! We're so blown away that Lunar Boy is receiving such prestigious recognition, especially since it's about an intersection that is so underrepresented. 😭😭 There was a time I believed nobody would care to read this story, but with every post I'm tagged in and photo of my book reaching so many of you- I'm glad to be proven wrong! Thank you truly.

Does anyone have a good summary of the whole All For the Game series? I’m interested in the new book but I don’t wanna have to reread the old ones first to remember everything that happened

Also I just have to say. Loan documents with 1/6th shekel interest are just as boring as today's .025% financing.

I love looking over someone's blog and trying to figure out if they're an earnest person who can be talked to and is actually curious or someone who is like, 19 and right about everything. (i also was never incorrect at 19, it's just the time)
Anyway, if you want to read a very very good book about the actual history of the hamburger, I really recommend Josh Ozersky's Hamburger: A History. He does have his little annoying tics, but his history is good--the man was a history doctorate and a food writer--and I think it would provide some clarity on the question.
In short, Germany invented the hamburger in the way India invented tikka masala.

'Queer as Folklore' by Sacha Coward
Tumblr media
With a clever title and an engaging tone of voice, queer historian Sacha Coward expertly intertwines ancient folklore with contemporary pop culture, creating a web of associations that will resonate with most contemporary queer people in Western countries. From mermaids to aliens, new and old legends come together to explore why queer people seem to have an innate tendency to be drawn to the fantastical from a young age. Although this book is heavily written through a Western lens, other folklore is mentioned and explored with respect for the cultures they belong to, taking the reader on a breathtaking journey through time, places, and myths.
Coward is a talented writer and meticulous historian, and that shines through his work. With each word he writes, the reader is both transported in time and invited into an ongoing conversation with the author. Reading this book feels like being in that one fun class you look forward to every week, with the engaging teacher who values input and talks about history as though it's a story, giving flesh and voice to ancient humans and making them feel so much closer to us. I had the pleasure of attending the ‘Queer as Folklore’ book release event in London, which really solidified my review of the book. It was an enriching experience, and hearing the voices of other queer people, researchers, and storytellers building up momentum to the main conversation culminated in a memorable and well-spent evening.
This is a book I highly recommend to lovers of history and the fantastical, or to anyone who fancies an engaging and fun non-fiction read to get them out of a reading slump!
Thank you Unbound for providing an ARC for review via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

I just came back home from a weekend trip to Bergamo, and I really loved the city. It was small enough to be visitable in two days, the architecture was beautiful, and although it was really hot I had an overall good time! I will be definitely be posting more pictures in the next few days, but I particularly like this one so I wanted to give it its own little post. I am very much tired after two days made up of a lot of walking, and I am still living with zero plans of what I should be doing, but to be fair I do not feel like I have recovered from my burn out yet. Feelings of guilt for not being productive have started making their way to my brain, but I am doing my best to be rational and not give into them. Starting to journal again would definitely be helpful, but I have yet to find the strenght to build the habit back up again.

The Cruel Prince - Holly Black (The Folk of the Air #1)
3.75/5 - fairly good YA fantasy; more compelling female lead than I usually see; enemies-to-lovers in this novel was a letdown
I picked up this book because I mentioned it to my younger cousin and she recommended that I read it, so here I am, keeping my word!
Anyway, let's start with the positives. Jude is a very fun, compelling protagonist. She's actually bloodthirsty, she's taking matters into her own hands, she's overall a lot more agentive than many other YA protagonists. I will say that I found the writing of her internal monologue to get quite repetitive, but I don't think that's a flaw of the actual character.
As far as intrigue and plot go, this is perhaps a little darker than most YA fantasies, but I'd still say it fits best in that demographic. It's fairly standard in terms of the court problems and the familial concerns, but definitely still enjoyable. I can see why my younger cousin liked it so much!
As for the negative, I do think the worldbuilding is a little weak, as are some of the other characters. Most things are told and not shown (e.g. Jude states that she lives in fear for her life approximately once a chapter, but that fear isn't really felt).
The biggest question mark for me, however, was the love story. I have seen too many people on the internet talk about Jude and Cardan as the true enemies-to-lovers blueprint for him to actually be a soft individual who's weirdly obsessed with her. He didn't even want her dead! He just didn't like her. This fits for the 17-year-old definition of an enemy, but I think we should be using that trope a little less liberally in the future.

underrated candidate for the funniest thing to happen in the history of film: during the production of ready player one (2018), steven spielberg told the book's writer about his suggestion for the plot to a sequel, and it was basically the plot of sword art online
