Can I just say I really appreciate that even though Tessa spends most of Clockwork Princess getting kidnapped, she still never stops fighting. She isn't fully trained in combat and rarely has access to proper weapons, but she still always gets some hits in. It does a lot to make her feel like an active participant in the story, even if the end result (being kidnapped) is the same either way.

listen. there are a number of aspects in which c3 and divergence are not comparable and fundamentally work differently (namely the difference in construction between a long-form campaign and 4-part mini-series), but thematically? not only are they comparable, they are designed to be. divergence is being aired directly after the conclusion of c3 in order to further explore concepts introduced in its conclusion. a world with less connection to the gods, the effect of that on the faithful, how the average exandrian approaches the concept of faith in general (in multiple aspects), the connection between the divine and their mortal children, burgeoning hope from post-war darkness, etc. these are concepts we're being asked to compare with the finale of c3. so if someone says that divergence's handling of faith and exploration of the gods blows c3's out of the water, that's valid. if we were meant to be avoiding comparisons, a) they wouldn't have aired this immediately after c3, b) there wouldn't be so many overlapping concepts, and c) they wouldn't be holding off on having the wrap-up until divergence is over. divergence is in conversation with c3, actively and intentionally, and it puts a stark contrast on how poorly faith was handled in c3, but also things like. understanding character motivation. which yes, is going to shine more strongly in short-form content because you have to get the information out quickly, but is a valid thing to discuss if you genuinely feel you understand a short-form campaign character's goals better than you do a character you spent 4 years watching. it's the difference between a woman who has never been shown to seriously engage with the gods at all stating "i don't know if i want to save gods that don't love me" and the moonweaver saying "if the love is true, it will pass through the barrier" and us knowing that divine magic will continue to be granted to mortals, by the sheer love the primes hold for their children, complex as that love might be. and, fundamentally, divergence is an exploration of consequences. the consequences of the calamity on mortals and the gods and the earth itself, decimated as it is. so when people compare it to c3, when a major complaint of the campaign was lack of follow-through and exploration of consequences, divergence shines for being about exactly what a lot of people felt c3 was missing.

Bishop's logical jumps are so funny to me sometimes because like you can clearly assume that there's something in between but the show really doesn't say how he reaches his conclusions.

For example, in Bishop's Gambit he talks about how the EPF was founded to protect from aliens, which are becoming a bigger and bigger threat to Earth. Okay, that's fair, this is probably like a month after the Triceraton invasion so the concept of "aliens are out to get us" is supported by the fact that Earth literally just got invaded by aliens for no clear reason. So what's Bishop's next step?

Making a clone army of super soldiers based on his DNA that will fight the aliens. Obviously. Can't you see the clear logical progression there.

if i failed to protect my kid during the apocalypse and they almost died wandering on their own but got rescued by a team of four competent, battle-experienced adults who cared about them very much and made them feel less scared and useless but refused to let them fight, i think that would be a pretty decent outcome and i'd be pretty okay with it. sure i could dream up a better situation but there's a hell of a lot of worse ones too.

Temporary foreign worker permits were issued to bail out companies who “couldn’t find” local labour - because they refused to offer reasonable wages or benefits, or just plain didn’t want to risk Canadians calling out unsafe labour practices - and let them “temporarily” bring in people from other countries who do not know our labour laws and would accept worse conditions

They’re also not allowed to properly apply for permanent visas and shit to become immigrants because The Bullshit™️ levels are off the fucking charts. Come over to be exploited but oh you’re not allowed to stay?

This is why no one could find a job despite all the places “hiring” in 2022 and SO MANY companies are finally being fined for abusing the system but not enough to make them fucking stop)

It’s been bothering me for days why this blog feels so familiar, and today it finally hit me.

That confessions blog? It’s using the same techniques as incel chan boards or reddit subs. The same techniques to get increasingly viler the longer it goes on.

They are completely anonymous by choice, there’s no way of telling which contributor is the same as the one prior. There could be one, there could be a hundred and one. It doesn’t matter because the effect is the same.

The people contributing to this blog don’t believe what they’re saying, they’re simply trying on these opinions to defend them, so they can see if they align with those ideologies.

This insulates them from ever having to own or take responsibility for the rhetoric that’s being spewed there. They’re not misogynistic, they’re not ageist, they are simply “trying on” these opinions, they don’t actually believe them.

Schrodinger’s assholes. Whether or not they mean these opinions is based solely on the backlash and reaction they get. They get a negative reaction? Oh, that’s not what they meant, and they can “try on” a different opinion until they get to the acceptable level of misogyny that’s comfortable in that space.

They never have to investigate what the core values of these opinions are, or why they might hold them, or if they’re damaging. It’s all surface level “opinions” so if people are hurt by them, then that’s their issue, because they don’t believe they are being misogynistic, they’re just trying it on for size.

I don’t have an answer, except to say because they’re hiding behind the cloak of anonymity, that cloak veils them from understanding the harm that they can cause. Because they aren’t misogynists, they can’t be hurting people.

This is just my opinion, and I cant say for certain that’s what these people believe, but I can say that from what I saw before blocking that blog, it will only continue to incrementally push the rhetoric further until they reveal themselves the misogynistic, hateful ideals they’re pretending they aren’t. their audience will get smaller and smaller as they alienate people piece by piece until everyone that isn’t “them” is an ��other”.

Supporting those who have been affected, as opposed to attempting to change minds is the only way I can see to “take their hats” off so to speak. You don’t owe it to them to prove you aren’t what they’re claiming you are. You owe it to yourself to protect your peace, protect your space, and protect yourself.
