summary: Dick moved into the manor about a year ago. Bruce’s been dating Diana and Clark for a while. It’s time he brought everybody together (and he’s nervous as hell)

Dick could tell Bruce was anxious about something, but every time he’d asked the question, it’d been avoided. He kept himself busy on his bars all day while he tried to puzzle out just what was making Bruce so nervous. It wasn’t Batman stuff, because when they had patrolled the night before everything had been fine. Alfred hadn’t been commenting on Wayne Enterprise’s stock price, so it wasn’t work related. He was confused. He wanted answers. After one final flip, Dick’s feet hit the floor. He’d get the answer out of Bruce if it meant sitting in his office and bugging him all day.
Dick grabbed the batman slippers he’d been gifted that Christmas. They swished across the floor as he padded towards Bruce’s office. He should be home by now, it was well after five. Bruce, being a diagnosed workaholic, would no doubt be in his office hidden behind a wall of paperwork. He pushed open the door and cleared his throat.
But the billionaire wasn’t hidden behind paper at all. He was staring at his phone, his head in his hands and looking more morose than Dick had ever seen him.
“Bruce?”
He looked up, and he was awfully pale. “Dick? What’s up, chum?”
Dick walked closer to the desk, and didn’t miss the way Bruce locked the phone before he could reach him. He was hiding something.
“Is… is everything okay?” He asked.
“Yeah,” Bruce began to lie, then stopped as his son began pouting. “Damn it. You’re too hard to lie to. C’mon, let’s go to the den. We can talk in there.”
He took Dick’s hand and led him across the hall. All manner of terrible thoughts flashed through his mind as they settled onto the couch, so he scooted closer till he was tucked under Bruce’s arm. The billionaire looked even paler in here. It was starting to make Dick really nervous.
“There’s something I’ve been meaning to tell you for a long time. You know how I work with Superman and Wonder Woman?”
Dick nodded his head.
“Good. Well, we’ve all been working together for a while,” he looked like he was about to expand on that, but instead he fell silent.
The boy sat there, with the patience of a saint while Bruce strung his thoughts together. They’d only been in each other’s lives for a little over a year now, but both Dick and Bruce had learned to read each other like a book. There were times where they had entire conversations without saying a word. This was starting to feel like one of those conversations.
“I really have no idea how to say this. They’re coming over. Tonight. The both of them.” He sounded annoyed, but Dick didn’t miss how soft his eyes got. “Diana and Clark have wanted to meet you since you moved in but I was… am, nervous about it. They’re not bad people. God, they’re the best people I’ve ever met. Clark’s so goddamn midwestern,” he was babbling now and he knew it. “and Diana’s the strongest person I’ve ever known. And we’ve… we’ve all been dating each other.”
“… that’s it?” Dick asked. Bruce still had that constipated look on his face.
“Um, yeah.”
“I get to meet Superman and Wonder woman?” he was starting to bounce now. “And you’re dating them?”
Bruce blinked. He’d expected outrage, denial, rejection, or even just distance. He didn’t expect Dick shaking with excitement and yanking on his arm in disbelief. He realized, for the umpteenth time, that he really had no idea how to raise a kid.
“Yeah. Yeah, I am. They’re actually gonna be here soon- you’re really okay with me dating them?” he double checked.
“I grew up in a circus, Bruce. A lot of people did that. Mom and Dad were kind of the weird ones because they were only married to each other,” he shrugged. “Besides, they make you happy, right? That’s what all the contortionists always said. Stay with people who make you happy.”
“They make me very happy,” he said, reaching out to pull his bouncing son close again.
“Well, that’s good then! I can’t wait to meet them. Why’d you wait so long?” Dick nearly flew out of his skin as the doorbell echoed through the manor. He looked at Bruce, his hair practically frizzing.
Bruce simply took his son’s hand and led him to the foyer, where Alfred was holding the mahogany doors open as Clark, dressed in a nice blue button up and khakis followed a yellow sundress clad Diana. They smiled, their eyes lighting up at the sight of Bruce standing there with Dick. He gently nudged the boy forward, leaving his hand resting between his shoulder blades for support.
“Dick, this is Clark Kent and Diana Prince,” he introduced before Alfred could jump on his case.
Dick looked up at them, his eyes the size of dinner platters. He shook their hands gingerly, and the two of them didn’t miss the small shake in that gesture. Bruce watched all of this like a hawk, a small irrational part of him screaming to protect Dick. He quashed that part down. Dick was currently the safest person in the world, after all. He was surrounded by Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman.
“Hello, Dick,” Diana smiled as she knelt so they were eye to eye. “It’s very nice to meet you. You’re all Bruce’s talked about. I’ve been looking forward to meeting you for a long time.”
“I- you- me?” He just about squeaked.
She smiled gently at him, and it reminded him a lot of his mom’s smile. Gentle, understanding, and she had a dimple just like his mother. He’d been so absorbed taking her features, he missed Clark bending down to his height as well.
“I’ve read a lot about you, and more about Robin. You’re doing great work, Dick. Are you taking Bruce’s lessons seriously?”
Now Superman was talking to him. Dick felt like he might combust. He looked over to Clark, and realized he was wearing glasses.
“D’you have bad eyesight?” He blurted out. Immediately following that, he clapped a hand over his mouth. “Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry!”
But Clark just laughed. “No, it’s okay. It’s something I do to separate Superman from me. Secret identities and all,” he rose back to his full height.
Diana stood as well, and offered her hand out to his. He took it, his fingers slipping into her strong grasp. He was holding hands with Wonder Woman. She began leading him through the manor, which felt a little weird but he guessed as they turned to the corner to the dining room, she’d spent much more time walking its halls than he had. Diana sneaked a peek back, just in time to see Bruce giving Clark a quick kiss.
“Bruce told me you’ve enrolled in a new school,” she said as they sat at the large table. “Do you like it?”
“Yeah, I do. I don’t get bullied like I did at the old school. Plus, it’s close to where Bruce works so sometimes, he picks me up and we go get- “Dick paused as Alfred walked into the room. “nutritious snacks.”
The butler’s infamous eyebrow stayed in it’s resting position.
Bruce and Clark walked in a moment later, and once they were all settled in, Alfred brought drinks. Apple juice for Dick, bourbon for Clark, Malbec for Diana and scotch for Bruce. He promised dinner would be served shortly, then left them alone.
“How long have you all been dating?” Dick asked after the silence went on for a little too long.
“Two years,” Clark answered. “This uh, doesn’t make you uncomfortable does it?”
“No,” Dick answered quickly. “No, lots of people did that in the circus. I was telling Bruce; my parents were kind of the weird ones because they were exclusive. They didn’t get treated bad or anything because of that,” he shrugged. “I just thought it was a circus thing. I think it’s nice, loving more than one person.”
Diana caught the proud smile that slipped across the billionaire’s face. Underneath the table, she took his hand and squeezed.
“Thank you,” Clark said. “You have no idea what that means to us, pal.”
Alfred wheeled in dinner at that. Pork steaks, mashed potatoes, green beans were laid out in front of them, earning dual groans of happiness from Clark and Dick. The two dug in with gusto, each telling stories of the times they’d eaten this same meal. Diana and Bruce were a little slower in joining them. The rest of the meal passed with a familial ease that hadn’t been experienced there in nearly twenty years. Once every one had been stuffed to the gills, they were shepherded into the den by Alfred who promised cookies and milk, and the adults were promised a digestif. Dick curled up in his usual spot, underneath his guardians’ arm. Diana sat to Dick’s other side, while Clark sat by Bruce and stretched an arm across the back of the couch.
“Tell me about the circus, pal. It’s been so long since I’ve been to one,” Clark prodded after a moment’s silence. “They used to come to Smallville all the time, but that was a long time ago.”
“It was amazing, Clark,” Dick hummed. “Every day Dad and I would go and help feed the animals. I loved the elephants. They were so nice! Pop always said that they knew I was a circus kid, so they were always extra gentle with me. I used to ride them around before I was old enough to fly. We had horses, too. A few of them were still pretty green, but I got to help the riders break one of them.”
“You broke a horse?” Diana asked, amazed.
“Well, they already did most of the hard stuff by the time I got to ride her. But she was a pretty white color, kind of beige. Pop said she was an American cream horse. But yeah, I got the saddle on her and rode till she stopped bucking. It was kind of fun,” he blushed, missing Clark’s look of glee and Bruce’s sudden paleness.
“That’s a pretty rare horse,” Clark couldn’t stop smiling. “How long did it take you?”
“’Bout a day,” Dick shrugged.
Diana and Clark laughed. The boy gave them both inquisitive looks.
“Sorry, Dick, that’s so impressive! Even on Themyscira it takes some of best riders a few days to break a horse. Maybe one day you could teach me something?” Diana nudged him.
“Only if Bruce is okay with it. I miss riding horses. Elephants, too. They’re so much fun to ride, you know? You just get so high up and their skin is so wrinkly but if you get the right elephant? It’s like flying.”
Bruce was already shaking his head no at the question forming on Clark’s lips. It was hard enough seeing his kid get shot at nearly every night, he didn’t need the added stress of watching him being thrown from a half ton animal.
Clark lightly punched him. Damn his hardheadedness.
“My Ma and Pa have some horses at their farm. Why don’t you come out sometime and show me what you’re made of?”
“Please, Bruce?” Dick asked, his lip beginning to move out into a pout. “It’s been so long since I’ve ridden.”
For the first time in their relationship, Diana and Clark watched as Gotham’s Dark Knight finally gave in. It was like watching the side of a mountain slough off. Something that was previously seen as immovable, vanishing in seconds.
“We’ll find a weekend,” he finally allowed. “But you’re wearing a helmet.”
Dick grinned as he squeaked, “Well, duh.”
Alfred returned with the food and the drinks, and not long after that Dick was snoring softly against his guardian’s chest.
“He’s wonderful,” Diana murmured as to not wake him. “You’re a very lucky man.”
“He makes me better,” Bruce agreed as he felt Clark’s hand rubbing his back gently. “You all do.”

Chapter: 3 Word count: 2,738 Chapter 1 Chapter 2 ============================= The next day, you woke up earlier than usual, which surprised you because Hae-won had kept you up talking on the phone about Namjoon last night. She thought he was cute, but lots of people thought that. Other than that, she didn't know him too well, so you didn't think she would have really thought about him romantically before. He did end up helping her with her math homework, and they watched a movie and had pizza at his place too. She said he seemed kind of flirty, but not in a creepy way. She admitted to flirting back a bit as well, and she said he seemed really charming and charismatic—she didn't think he was a weirdo anymore. It wouldn't bother you if they got together. It's not like he was your brother or anything. When you got to school, you headed straight to your locker to sit and wait until the bell rang. You still had some homework to finish, so it was good that you woke up early and decided to not sleep in any longer. After finishing a couple of questions, you took a quick break to eat the snacks you’d picked up at a convenience store on the way to school. Okay, it definitely wasn't the most nutritious breakfast, but it was better than having nothing at all. Just as you were finishing up the last of the cake, you saw Hoseok enter the hallway, presumably to go wait by his own locker. "Oh, good morning, Y/n," he said, stopping by your locking instead. "Good morning. What are you doing here?" He chuckled. "School." "Early, I mean," you clarified. "I knew what you meant." He sat down next to you. "I get here early sometimes. Not often enough though, since my homeroom teacher yells at me a lot for being late." You laughed. "You live closer than I do." "Are you stalking me?" "No. My dad's taken you home after practice before." "Sure." He flashed a smile. "Math?" he said, looking down at the worksheet in your lap. "Are you any good?" "I'm okay." "You could get Namjoon to help you if you aren't. You talk to him, right?" You nodded. "Yeah. I'll probably talk to him more now since he'll always be benched due to his clumsiness." "Yeah, never a dull moment with him." "He'll probably be busy helping my friend though. She's not good at math and he has a crush on her. You do the math. Literally. No, literally do my math homework for me, please. It's only the second week and we have so much already." "My brain's still in sleep mode. I woke up before my alarm went off. But I can help you after school if you really need it." "Really?" He nodded, then pulled out his phone to check something. Probably his calendar. He clicked and swiped at a few things before answering. "Yeah, today's Wednesday, so I'm free." "Cool, thanks. And as repayment and to express my thanks, I now offer you the gift of the best breakfast food in the world." You pulled the other cake out of your bag and held it up like it was the Holy Grail. He raised an eyebrow. "Breakfast cake?" But he took it after shrugging. "I didn't eat anything anyway. Thanks." You just nodded. "Did you get a good night's sleep? I know you said you were tired yesterday." He shrugged again. "I guess. I was able to get out of bed, even though I woke up early. So, not tired to the point of me not wanting to do anything. But since when is anyone not tired when they first wake up in the morning?" "True. If you get tired, you can fall asleep on my shoulder." "Thanks," he said, laughing. You turned your attention back to your math homework, hoping you'd finish before 8:00, when school would start. * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ When you got to math, you had one problem left to complete. Because Hae-won had hung out with Namjoon yesterday, her worksheet was all filled out, so she let you copy her work. "Thanks," you said, handing her back her paper. "I was working on it this morning. And guess what? Hoseok was here early too. He offered to help me with it after school today." She smiled. "That's kind of funny. Namjoon helped me with my math homework. Hoseok is going to help you with yours. We could go on a double date and it will all be thanks to math," she joked. "But after yesterday, I'm actually getting what we're doing in class. I could show you during lunch. Besides, if we get our homework done early, you can just hang out with Hoseok today. Doing homework would take too much time and it's not that interesting." "I guess. Wanna work on it during lunch?" She nodded. "Mhm. Namjoon will probably be happy. We're supposed to meet up to work on it today, but I don't think he'll have a problem with doing something else." "Something else, huh?" You wiggled your eyebrows at her. "Just kidding." "He is nice though. And he has pretty good taste in music. And his smile is just adorable." You started humming the wedding march. "Again, kidding. But, yeah, you could like someone much worse." "So it's not weird? Whatever this is?" "No. Go for it, if you like him." "Okay." Then she sighed as she saw that the teacher had arrived. "I'm so glad we have science next, so we'll at least get a break from math before we have to do the homework during lunch." You nodded in agreement, then put your homework on the corner of your desk so your teacher could see that you'd completed it. * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ You were going to wait for Hoseok to approach you so you wouldn't seem too eager. Or he could have forgotten. Or maybe he wasn't really being that serious when he offered to help you with your homework. You assumed that maybe he would say hi again, but he'd shown up a little late, so he apologized to your dad and went straight to following his orders. He seemed pretty focused for the rest of practice, probably in case your dad would scold him. After grabbing a drink, he walked over to you to say that he was going to change his clothes, then he walked off quickly. "Hey," he said when he was done. "Ready to work on your homework?" The two of you stood up and started walking towards the parking lot. "I actually finished it during lunch. My friend showed me what to do." "Oh," he said. "I can give you a ride home then, if you want." "Um, sure," you said. Hey, if he didn't suggest hanging out, you definitely weren't going to bring it up. You followed him to his car. On the drive home, he hadn't brought up hanging out, so you didn't say anything either. You didn't see him again until after practice the next day. By this point, Hae-won had already begged you for details about what happened yesterday. But you obviously had none to give, because you only talked to him for a minute or two and then a little bit on the way home. But she quieted down once she saw Hoseok heading over to where you guys were sitting. "Hey," he said. "I thought I'd see you this morning. I got to school early again." "Oh?" Had he been looking forward to it? Then, feeling bold, you said, "Well, if I had your number, I could have told you I was planning on sleeping in later today." You wanted to blush at the cheesiness and the fact that if he wanted to give you his number, he probably would have done it by now. But you didn't think he would turn you down, since people gave their numbers out to people they just met sometimes. And you knew Hoseok way better than a stranger you'd just met. He chuckled. "All you had to do was ask." He took his phone from his pocket and handed it to you. You did the same so he could put his number in your phone, then you switched phones again. "At this rate, you'll have the whole team's numbers in no time." "Huh?" "I saw that you had three already. Namjoon, Seokjin, and Jungkook." "Oh, yeah. I know Seokjin and Jungkook went to my middle school, so that's how I know him." "Ah. I think Seokjin mentioned you before. He said you were really nice." "And?" "What?" "Do you agree with him?" "Yeah, you're nice." He laughed. "What about me?" "Yeah." You both laughed this time, though yours was certainly more out of nervousness. "What else am I supposed to say?" You got a text, so your phone made a noise. "Sorry," you said, picking up your phone to check who sent you a message. It was from Hae-won and all it said was hi, even though she was sitting right next to you. You texted back what? Her response was: It might have been heading into awkward territory haha. Had to save my girl. You almost said thanks out loud, but then you quickly sent it as a text instead, then went back to talking to Hoseok to make sure you didn't come off as rude. "So, the first game's tomorrow. Good luck." "Yeah, good luck," Hae-won added in. "Thanks. It's kind of mean to say, but maybe we'll do better now that Namjoon has a replacement." He cracked up laughing. At the mention of Namjoon's name, Hae-won said, "What's wrong with Namjoon? Is he bad at baseball?" "Not bad, necessarily. He's just clumsy." "How many times do I have to tell you? It's baseball's fault, not mine," Namjoon said, coming up to where you were sitting. "Still hanging out today?" he asked Hae-won. "Mhm." She picked up her bag and, after saying goodbye to you and Hoseok, followed Namjoon off the field. "Are they dating?" Hoseok asked. "I don't think so. She would have told me if they were. They've hung before. He was helping her with her math homework. But, like I said yesterday, he likes her. So, who knows? Maybe they'll be dating soon. She seems to like him too." "I assume he'll take her to the party after the game tomorrow then." "Yup." You wanted to ask if he was going, but then it might seem like you were trying to see if he was going with anyone, so you decided against it. "So, is my dad having another team dinner today? Since the game is tomorrow and all." "Seokjin's having a few people over at his place, since his mom wanted to make something for us. But your dad didn't say anything about having one. He normally would have had it the day before the game, but I think he did it the other day instead because it was Yoongi's birthday and he made us practice in the cold. And I wouldn't expect him to have another one, especially so soon after the last one." He chuckled. "I apologize if your Christmas or birthday or whatever sucks because of us. I know we can eat a lot." "No, it's okay. I mean, I was thinking the same thing, actually. But it's not like he always does it. There are still a little over two months until my birthday, so I think things will be okay." "Oh, when is it?" "May 17th." "Oh. Sort of close to mine. The date, I mean. Mine's February 18th." In your head, you were saying I know, but for a response, you just nodded. "Did you do your math homework again during lunch today?" "No." "You said your friend showed you how to do it though, right?" "Yeah." "Uh...." He bit his lit, trying to think of something to say. "Hey," Seokjin said as he approached Hoseok. He turned to you. "Hey, Y/n." "Hi." "Still coming over later?" Seokjin asked. Hoseok nodded. "I'll see you later?" he asked you. "Yeah. Good luck tomorrow," you said to both of them. * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ Hae-won headed over to your place after she hung out with Namjoon. She wanted to brainstorm some outfits for the party tomorrow, especially since Namjoon said she should go to the party. You wouldn't have expected her to even go to the game, since she didn't know too much about baseball. But she said she was going to go. It would seem a little weird if she didn't go to the game, but showed up at the party that was held in celebration of said game. "He won't even be playing," you joked. "Then he can sit with us and watch it." "Are you going to be one of those couples that does everything together?" "Hey, we're not even dating. I like him and he flirts with me and stuff, but I don't know if he likes me like that. Or if he'd be into anything serious. Besides, he's a senior. He's probably not looking to graduate with a girlfriend. And we've only hung out a few times." "He does like you," you admitted. "How do you know?" "He told me." You snorted. "I knew before you guys even hung out that first time. And besides, even if a guy hangs out with you when he doesn't have a crush on you or anything, it's on his mind anyway. I mean, I think girls kinda do that too." "Since when are you an expert on guys? Did Hoseok text you or something after you guys exchanged numbers?" "No. We talked for a little bit after you left, but then Seokjin came up and said hey, so I left. But, yeah, Namjoon likes you. You don't have to worry." "Well, at least I don't have to go through that awkward 'does he like me?' thing. Unless he takes a while to say anything about it." "I don't think he will. He was flirting with you from day one. He already wanted you to come to the party before you hung out. His crush is so cute." "I know someone else's crush that's so cute." "Stop. Namjoon knows I like Hoseok. He wanted me to convince you to go to the party and was saying he would find some excuse to get me and Hoseok talking." "Maybe he likes you." "I don't know. I think he just likes me as a friend." "But didn't he expect you to be at school early? As in, he was looking forward to it? And you guys were supposed to meet up to do homework? I mean, even though that didn't happen and it's been mostly school-related stuff, I wouldn't completely rule it out." "Let's pick out our outfits." You wanted to change the subject. You really weren't sure about Hoseok. He was probably just being friendly. And it's usually easier to see the signs of attraction in other people's relationships, since you got to look at it with an unbiased perspective, as someone who wasn't swept up in the emotion of it all. With dating (or "hanging out"), people were constantly worrying about embarrassing themselves or coming off as weird, wondering whether it was a just friends kind of thing or if the other person felt some sort of attraction, wondering if they were just trying to have some fun or if they wanted to pursue a relationship. You were just glad that it probably wouldn't have to be as frustrating for Hae-won. "Okay. We can pick out your outfit first since we're at your house and we actually have your clothes right here." She went straight to your closet and started to browse. In no time, she had a few outfits put together, which she laid out on your bed. Sometime during her explanation of why she thought each outfit was a good option, you got a text from Hoseok that said hey. You texted back: Hi. Hoseok: What's up? You: Hanging out with my friend Hae-won. What are you up to? Shouldn't you be sleeping? If you fall asleep tomorrow, my dad will kill you! Just kidding. :) Hoseok: I know, I know. I'm going to sleep soon. Just wanted to say hey to have a conversation going since I feel like people exchange numbers and then never even text or anything since they forget. You: Haha true. Hoseok: Well, good night. Sleep tight. :p You: Thanks, you too. "Who are you texting?" Hae-won asked. "Hoseok. He just wanted to say hey." "Hey? Anything else?" "Just hey. He said he was going to bed soon. And we should too. You don't want to have bags under your eyes tomorrow." You helped her put the clothes back in your closet, then you two got ready for bed as you talked about what kind of outfit she could wear for tomorrow. But, of course, you didn't head straight to bed. She talked about Namjoon some more and brought up Hoseok a few times as well. But you started to doze off, so you don't know how long she continued to talk.

Heartbeat - Emma’s POV 
As eight weeks became nine and then ten and eleven, Emma became more relaxed with being pregnant.  She learned to accept and mostly ignore the stalkerish tendencies of the dwarves and chalked it up to their love and respect for her parents, and her as their daughter.  She also started listening to her body more and allowing Killian to coddle her from time to time.  His interest in the changes that were going on inside of her body were both exciting and enduring.  Having him to lean on gave her a new sense of well-being and courage to face the unknown entity of not only bringing a new child into this world, but of being a part of helping the child grow and thrive every day.  Each day was met with wonder and joy, which for this little lost girl was something that she never planned to take lightly.  
Killian had deemed it his job to rise early each morning, get Henry breakfast and off to school.  She joined them as often as possible but the extra time allowed her to lay still just after waking to see how baby was going to treat her that day.  Some days were really good; other days not so much, and on those days, her attentive husband seemed to have a sixth sense, for he inevitably arrived like the knight he was with some dry toast and ginger ale. 
She noticed, too, that as the weeks progressed, lethargy set in each afternoon, which was how Killian convinced her that their afternoons were for quiet time.   He had made it his mission to read every book on pregnancy that the library had to offer.  He could even give a detailed account of all the stages of embryonic growth and recite a litany of resources, but his favorite remained, "What to expect when you're expecting.”   Most quiet times started when he met her at the door with a kiss and a snack and then gently led her to the sofa where they shared news of the day.  Lately, her body had been demanding a nap and, curled up against Killian, she found she didn't mind so much.  
Mondays though, that day was the day they curled up together and read what new developments were occurring with their baby.  Killian still met her at the door with a kiss and a snack, but then once they were seated, he pulled out the tattered copy of his favorite book.  When she opened the door and he wasn't waiting for her, she shut the door and moved on into the room. He was sitting on the sofa with the book open on his lap lost in thought.  "Killian?"
When she called his name and he turned toward her, there was still a faraway look in his eyes before it cleared and a smile lit his face.  Standing, he moved to her, pulling her close for a hug. "I'm sorry Swan, I did not realize the hour was so late.  Shall I get you a something to eat?"
Emma studied him closely before answering, "No I'm fine. Where were you right then?" she waved her hand toward where he had been sitting. 
Killian looked over where she was pointing, a contemplative look crossing his features, "Just thinking about the baby." He smiled tenderly at her.
"You do that a lot, don't you?" 
"Aye, love, I do.  After you and Henry, it's my favorite thing to think about.  Shall we sit?" He guided her to the sofa, sat down and pulled her onto his lap.  "Now, how about a proper greeting for your old pirate?" 
Emma happily obliged as she sunk into his arms and the kiss he bestowed upon her.  When their lips parted, she leaned her head against his shoulder savoring the closeness she felt with him.   "I see you've been reading.  Learn anything new?" 
Killian picked up the book that was next to him and laid it on her lap, locating the page that he wanted, "I was reading about the development during week eleven." 
Emma sat up a little straighter, so she could look at the book, "And what did you learn...daddy?"
"The book says that during week 11 our baby is almost fully formed and is moving already." Dropping the book back onto the sofa, he laid his hand on her stomach, "So, our baby's movements are why you are feeling so sick."
She crossed both her hands over his and smiled, "Based on how sick I've been, our baby is very active. Do you think that carries over to after he or she is born?" she asked worriedly.
Killian smirked, "You say that as if that wouldn't be a good thing, love.”
Emma lifted her head and nipped playfully at his chin, "And you think you're up to the challenge of chasing an active child all over the place given your advanced age?"
“Oh Swan," he nuzzled ear causing a shiver to run up her spine, "I’ve not heard any complaints about my energy before.”  His chuckle was low and dark and his hot breath in her ear, made parts of her tingle and gave her ideas that might need to be moved upstairs.
Emma giggled at him as she leaned her head against Killian's shoulder, "True, but there's always a first time." Relaxing into his embrace even further, she felt the lethargy take hold and carry her away.

Most of the books that they had read said that by week twelve the nauseous feeling should be abating, and energy should be returning.  When neither was happening for Emma, Killian wanted to immediately contact Dr. Whale, but since her next doctor's visit was that week, she was able to convince him to wait.  It didn't mean that he stopped worrying. In fact, just the opposite was true, but when he offered to get up early each day to make Henry's breakfast each morning, she didn't complain too loudly.  She got to sleep in, he got to feel like he was helping, and Henry had a nutritious breakfast each morning.  A win -win.  
When the morning of her doctor's visit arrived, she opened her eyes slowly, glancing at the clock to check the time.  Laying her hands on her stomach where she could swear a tiny bump had appeared, she greeted their child, "Good morning, baby.   Are you going to cooperate today and let us hear your heartbeat?"
Just as she finished the question, Killian stepped into the room carrying a tray in his hand. "And what is the verdict this day, Swan?" He set the tray on the table as he sat next to Emma on the bed, "Is she," he leaned over to kiss her, "or he," another quick kiss, "going to listen to you?"
"That would be nice, wouldn't it?" She rubbed her hand along his scruff, "What did you bring me?"  
Killian picked up the tray and set it across her lap, "Dry toast and ginger ale."
"Yum," she rolled her eyes at him, "I'm hoping baby's appetite changes soon."
Killian kissed her one more time before standing up, "Take your time, love. I'm making your father's famous pancakes for the morning meal."
As he left the room, Emma nibbled her toast feeling excited about the day ahead.  As soon as she had eaten enough to keep the sick feeling at bay, she climbed out of the warm bed and dressed for the day, arriving downstairs in time to see Henry off to school. 
"Bye, Mom. Good luck today." He shut the door behind him, not quite a slam, but not carefully either, causing a frown to gather between her brows. 
Killian set a plate of pancakes fluffy enough to rival her dad's in front of her, "Alright, Emma?"  Picking up his own plate he sat across from her and poured a large amount of syrup on them.  
Emma watched the syrup puddle on his plate, while trying to decide what she was feeling and why Henry's exit had triggered those feelings.  "I'm fine," she finally got out before cutting a bite of pancake and absentmindedly putting it in her mouth while trying to decide what else to say.  "I'm not sure," she looked up at him and momentarily got lost in the concern etched on his face, "I'm just a little worried about Henry, but can we talk later?  I don't want to be late." 
Killian sat there for a few seconds as if trying to read her mind, before tilting his head in agreement. "As you wish." He carried their plates over and set them in the sink. “Alright, Swan, I’ll not take my eyes off you until you're ready." He quipped, holding his hand out for her to take.
Emma rolled her eyes at him good-naturedly, "I would despair if you did," she gave right back before taking his hand and following him out of the house to their appointment.  
When they arrived at the hospital, the same feelings she'd had all day continued and she could only call it unsettled, for she couldn't sit still.  She kept readjusting in the chair, trying to get comfortable and sliding her hands back and forth on the armrests, until finally Killian put his hand on her thigh. "Emma," he waited until she looked at him, "what is the problem, love?  I thought you were looking forward to this day." 
Tracing a pattern on his hand, around each of his rings, she worked to put words to her thoughts. "I have been looking forward to today," she told him slowly, "I'm just feeling a bit unsettled, but I am also very excited." She looked up at him through her lashes, "Does that make any sense?" 
Killian turned his hand palm up and clasped hers, bringing her hand to his lips, "Is there any pain for the wee one?" 
"No, it's just something they lay on my stomach that picks up sound waves," she told him quietly.
He continued to stare at her, mesmerizing her with his blue eyes making her feel as if they could reach inside her soul, "Emma, talk to me."
The tone of his voice was so soothing that she was momentarily at loss for words, and when she opened her mouth all that came out was, "I...," before she closed her mouth again and lowered her eyes to his chest. 
Using his hook, he tilted her chin up until she was once again looking at him. "I'm here," he told her softly.  
"You always are." 
"And I always will be." 
They sat there a few more minutes before she took a deep breath and finally relaxed enough to open up. "It's Henry," she said hesitantly.  "I didn't get to do all of this with him and I worry that he'll be hurt and feel left out."  
"Were you hurt when you found out your parents were having another child?"
Looking inside of herself, she could see how in the beginning, she had been hurt, but that had quickly dissolved into happiness because she knew that her parents had enough love to go around. "A little," she told him, “but that didn't last."
Letting go of her hand, he put his arm around her shoulder and tugged her into his lap. "Emma, Henry is loved.  Has he given you any indication that he's not excited about this baby?"
Emma thought back to Henry's behavior the last few weeks.  If anything, he had been more caring of her needs. "No. In fact, just the opposite." 
"Don't worry, Swan.  As our family grows we will include him as much or as little as he wants."  He kissed her softly before leaning his forehead against hers, "Feeling better?" 
Emma smiled and cupped his cheek, rubbing her thumb back and forth on his scruff. "You always make me feel better," she whispered around the knot in her throat.  
He waggled his brows at her. "And if we were alone, there are other ways I could make you feel better." 
She let out a little giggle, and kissed him again, "I'm sure you could Captain Jones," before pushing herself off his lap.
Catching her hand in his, he tugged until she landed back in the same position, "Going somewhere?" He asked her with a raised brow. 
"I thought I would move back over there," she pointed to where she had been sitting.  
"No need, love.  You are perfect just where you are." Tucking her back against his chest, wrapped in his arms, Emma did indeed feel safe and secure.  She leaned back against his shoulder until her name was called and they were shown into the examination room.  
As with any routine pregnancy visit, hers started with her weight and vitals and then she sat and waited for the doctor.  When Dr. Whale walked into the room, after exchanging social conversation, he looked down at her chart. "Emma, you've lost weight.  Are you still experiencing morning sickness?" 
"It's not just morning though, but varies throughout the day." Looking over at Killian, she gathered strength to continue, "And the lethargy is awful, especially in the afternoon.  I have to take naps.  Is that normal?" 
As she was talking, he was writing in the chart, and looking over her blood work and comparing the numbers. "Just remember that what you read is general information, so while most women are feeling much better by twelve weeks, some aren't.  I'm sure the nauseous feeling is uncomfortable, but since your numbers are perfect I'm really not worried and you shouldn't either." Reaching behind him he picked up his Fetal Doppler Device. "Let's see if we can hear your baby's heartbeat." 
Emma heard Killian's intake of air. "Is there a possibility we might not be able to?" he asked with a note of concern and underlying distress in his voice. "I thought those devices were quite accurate." 
Whale stopped adjusting the dials, and looked from her to Killian before calmly responding, "We should be able to, yes.  But Emma is only twelve weeks along and depending on the positioning of the baby, we might not be able to hear the heartbeat for another week or two."
Emma looked into her husband's face and saw a mixture of emotions, anxiousness, sadness and fear that it might not happen.  After feeling of her stomach to determine the best possible positioning, Whale placed the Doppler. "Come on baby," she thought, "let your daddy hear you." 
When nothing was heard, the Doppler was adjusted, once----twice ---- even three times with no success, and Emma felt her own heart rate pick up speed.   Deciding that he needed to add more gel, which is needed for conduction of the sound waves, Whale lifted the probe off of her stomach and added it to the end.   Killian squeezed her hand a little tighter, giving her some indication that her thoughts of being unsuccessful in hearing their baby today were running in sync with his.  Returning to his task, Whale would palpate her stomach for positioning, place the probe, wait - listen, but when he was unable to hear anything, he would repeat the process over again. 
Emma felt fear skitter along her skin, and found herself repeating the same few words over and over inside her head, Come on… Come on, until the words had formed a loop, not knowing where one word stopped and the other began.  
Shaking his head, Dr Whale, looked at her with sorrow, "I'm sorry, Emma, Hook, the baby must be laying in a position too deep for us to hear it this time." 
Looking up at Killian and seeing the sadness in his eyes, Emma knew she wasn't leaving this room until they had heard their baby's heart sounds.  Reaching down with their hands, she wrapped her fingers around Whale's wrist and guided his hand back down toward her stomach so that while Whale was holding the probe, Emma and Killian's intertwined hands were holding his.  As soon as they touched the probe to her stomach, there it was - their baby's heart sounds. 
Thum-thum-thum-thum------sounding just like the galloping of a horse running quickly through the forest or the whooshing of the water racing against the hull of the Roger.  
Emma immediately felt tears pool in her eyes and roll down her cheeks.  Gritting her teeth, she blinked furiously to clear her vision, for she wanted nothing more than to share this special moment with Killian.
When she looked up at his face she wasn't prepared for what she saw.  Emma had experienced the look of love from her pirate many times over, but nothing had prepared her for the emotion on his face at this moment in time.  There was such love there that it literally stole the very breath from her lungs.  His eyes were glassed over and a single tear was running down the side of his face.  "Our baby," he whispered reverently, before bending over and kissing her tenderly on her lips.
Whale allowed them to listen a few more seconds before removing the probe, turning off the device and wiping the gel from her stomach.  "Everything sounds good. I'll see you in a month, alright?"
The door had barely closed before Killian pulled her into his arms and covered her lips in a passionate kiss.  She felt his body tremor from the emotion left over after hearing their baby's heartbeat and as their lips slowly parted she reached up and cupped his face with both her hands. "How do you feel, daddy?" 
He kissed her again and nudged his nose against hers. "Oh Swan, that was the most amazing sound I have ever heard." 
"You mean, this one?" she pushed the voice playback on her cell phone and the rapid thum-thum-thum could be heard once again.
The awe appeared again on Killian's face, as he stared at her phone while listening intently, "You can get the sound on your talking device?" 
"I recorded it," she told him, smiling smugly. "I thought we might want to let Henry listen to it or...listen again." 
"You're bloody brilliant, Swan."
"I know," she quipped.

Later that night Emma carried the bowl of popcorn and scooted between her boys. "What did I miss?"
Henry stuck his hand in the bowl, pulled out a handful and shoved the salty snack in his mouth, “Killian was getting ready to let me hear the heartbeat of the new baby,” he answered around the mouthful.
She laid her hand on Killian's thigh and squeezed, "You have your phone, babe?"
"Aye love." He pulled his phone from his pocket and pushed the button, and once again they could hear the rapid beat of their baby's heart.  
When the sound reached her ears a tidal wave of goosebumps washed over her and tears filled her eyes.  She met Killian's gaze, his eyes as glassy as hers, and a shiver ran through his body, even though this wasn’t the first or second time they had heard the sound.  He gave her a small, intimate smile but tilted his chin toward Henry, as if saying what he really wanted would have to wait for a later time.  
Emma glanced over at Henry, who hadn't said anything but had continued helping himself to the popcorn in her lap. "So, what do you think kid?" 
He swallowed and grabbed another handful. "It's pretty fast.  Now can we watch the movie?" 
She looked at Killian and rolled her eyes, "Are you ready to watch?" 
"Queue it up, young lad.  What do you have in store for us tonight?" 
Henry turned on the television and found what he was looking for. "Tonight we are watching Three Men and a Baby."
As the music started playing Emma smiled at her son and then leaned her head on Killian's shoulder, allowing happiness to carry her away.

Here are 2 ‘out-of-the-box’ lunch box recipes for kids that will make them squeal in delight! Wow, won’t that be nice? You might even get a tight hug! Pssst… they are healthy too! So, without much ado, here they are:
2 Exciting & Healthy Lunch Box Recipes for Kids 
Delectable Appe
This one is a keeper. Morning times are hurried and harried, and a dish that is both quick-to-make and yummy to boot is undoubtedly a godsend!
A South-Indian delicacy, Appe can be whipped up I no time at all and remain soft and delicious even when they cool down. A perfect dish for lunch boxes.
Quick Recipe
Soak 1 cup rava (semolina) in 1 cup of dahi (yoghurt). 
Add finely chopped onion, capsicum, carrots, beans and fresh coriander. Stir well and add a little water. Leave for 15-20 minutes.
Now add ½ tsp Eno and mix very well. Now grease the appe pan and put on heat. Once hot, take a spoonful of the mixture and drop in all the slots of the appe maker. 
Cover and let it cook on low heat for 5-7 minutes. Flip the side and cook for another 3-4 minutes. Take care to not leave for too long. Else it will burn.
Take the pan off the heat and toss it over a plate. The delightful and cute appe are ready. 
Serve with coconut chutney or the kids’ ever-favourite ketchup.

    2.Heavenly Cheese Dosa
Another all-time favourite, this one never fails to delight, be it kids or adults. 
Extremely simple to make, it wins over with its deliciousness and has one drooling for more.
Quick Recipe
Take 1 cup of homemade or a recommended brand’s dosa batter. 
Ladle a big spoonful on the pan and spread to make a big circle. 
Drizzle 1 teaspoon of garlic butter and sprinkle some grated cheese. You can also sprinkle some oregano, parsley and basil. 
Let it cook for a minute and flip the dosa. Now, cook the other side also for a minute till it is nice and crisp.
Mouth-watering cheese dosa is ready to be devoured!
Serve hot with coconut chutney or tomato ketchup.
