Here's a question...
Is Balatro actually fun?
I know, I know. You're asking yourself, "Are they serious? Of course it's fun! Just look how many hours I have in it!" I can hear you right now through the bug I hid in your laundry pile (you should really wash those, by the way).
And look, I'm right there with you...
Tumblr media
I've been playing this game every chance I get.
But at a certain point I have to question, am I enjoying it? Or, am I just feeding a gambling addiction?
Because the moment to moment gameplay...it's just poker. It's poker, stripped of the aspect of trying to outsmart your opponent. You see a target number, and you start calculating multipliers, chip values, and the probability of drawing certain cards on a discard.
Is that really engaging gameplay?
...because I'm pretty sure it's just doing mental maths.
Sure, there's the shops and stuff, but here's the thing - you don't always get to take advantage of them. That's at the mercy of the RNG, even if you math good. Plus the further into the game you go, the more the mechanics serve to reduce your control and make you more dependent on getting good RNG.
There's a nice flow of unlocks and new discoveries early on, which certainly helps to get you hooked. And as is the nature of these sorts of games it slows the deeper in you get, and the harder the tasks become. At least there's an option to just unlock everything if you don't care about getting the achievements, but I still can't help but think about how many forms of gambling will use simple rewards early on to get people into that mindset that the next payout is just around the corner.
All of which leads me back to my original question...
Is playing Balatro actually fun?

Gratitude Journal Entry (7/21/24)
Tumblr media
Today I’m Grateful For:
*My mental reset day :-) It was so nice not having to write for my challenge. The only writing I did is creative writing, which is my favorite way to write.
*Sonic! I have the Sonic app and I get rewards all the time. I’m going to have to visit our local Sonic at least 3 times before the 28th before my rewards expire
*Probably strange, but I’m very grateful for cranberry juice. I am the only one in my family who likes straight cranberry juice. I drank it all the time growing up because of recurrent kidney infections and instead of antibiotics they gave me juice and I fell in love with it
Something I’m Proud Of:
I caught up with my reading today :-) and I also cleaned up my laptop. I had files and folders all over the place and it was annoying and confusing so I’m proud for getting that cleaned up
Tomorrow I’m Looking Forward To:
*More creative writing and starting my copywriting course. I’m also looking forward to going to the store to get my juice. I’ve been dealing with bloating and cranberry juice is supposed to help.

A Guide to Building Trust and Loyalty in Food Service Business
Cultivating trust and loyalty among customers, particularly those with food allergies, is indispensable in food service settings where dietary preferences and restrictions are as diverse as the dishes served. Establishing a bond built on transparency, safety, and exceptional service goes beyond mere transactions; it's all about fostering relationships that can withstand the test of time. This article delves into the pivotal strategies food service establishments can employ to earn their clientele's trust and inspire unwavering loyalty.
Trust is built over time through consistently delivering exceptional service, and loyalty follows when customers feel understood, respected, and safe.
Building Trust with Customers
Building trust with customers, particularly those with food allergies, involves a consistent commitment to safety, transparency, and excellent service. Here are key strategies to cultivate trust:
Be Transparent and Honest: Be upfront about your menu and the potential allergens in your food. Honesty fosters trust and is particularly crucial for customers with food allergies.
Ensure Safety: Implement rigorous food handling and preparation protocols to avoid cross-contact with allergens. Customers will trust your establishment when they feel their health is prioritized.
Maintain Consistency: Deliver consistent service quality, from the food quality to the attentiveness of the staff. Consistency signals reliability, building trust over time.
Acknowledge Mistakes: If a mistake happens, own up to it, apologize sincerely, and rectify the situation promptly. This demonstrates integrity and can strengthen trust.
A Guide to Fostering Loyalty
Loyal customers are invaluable to the long-term success of your establishment. They not only frequent your business but also recommend it to others. Here's how you can foster loyalty:
Provide Exceptional Service: Always aim to exceed customer expectations. A satisfied customer is likely to return and become a loyal patron.
Personalize the Experience: Remember regular customers, their preferences, and their allergies. Personal touches like these make customers feel valued and enhance their loyalty.
Encourage Feedback: Ask for feedback and show customers you value their input. Make necessary changes based on their suggestions, which can increase their loyalty.
Reward Loyalty: Implement a loyalty program or offer discounts to regular customers. Rewards give customers a tangible reason to return.
When dealing with allergic customers, their safety is the top priority. Their trust in your ability to cater to their dietary needs and prevent cross-contact with allergens is critical. Their loyalty stems from repeated positive experiences where they feel understood, cared for, and safe.
Maintain clear communication, offer allergen-free options, and train your staff adequately to handle food allergies.
In conclusion, ensuring clear and accessible communication regarding allergens in food packaging and labeling is vital. Factors like label design, multilingual labeling, symbols, packaging materials, and integrity are crucial in keeping us safe, especially those with food allergies.
Every detail matters in creating a safer food environment, from ensuring the labels are easy to read to selecting the right packaging materials to prevent cross-contact. These steps aren't just about meeting regulations but looking for each other's well-being. By prioritizing these aspects, we minimize risks and build trust and confidence in the products we consume.
Overall, it's a reminder of the personal impact of allergen awareness and the importance of taking it seriously in our everyday lives.

I’ve lost the ask, but someone asked me if I’m still using the ADHD sticker method of rewarding productivity and how do I record bad days, given my health issues, and the answer to this is yes and like this:

I think a lot of discussions would be made better by recognizing that masculinity and femininity aren't inherently preferred, but adherence to cishet standards is, which is slightly different.
This is why a masculine trans man* or a feminine trans woman* often still face stigma - it isn't that they aren't gender conforming to the gender they are. It is that cishetero standards do not want trans people to exist at all, in any capacity.

me when my meteor-powered robot gf attempts to murder me 😳😳
#context:#after Bortom city recognized Beatrix as a threat and began persecuting her‚ she became widely known#A great reward would be given to those who captured the runaway android‚ and most people feared her.#To sum it up‚ she was alone in her journey and refusing to trust anyone so easily.#The persecutions got worse when more cities allied themselves with Bortom. This attracted robot hunters.#At some point‚ Beatrix met this golden-eyed‚ humanoid shadow that always seemed to watch her from afar#It wouldn't stop following her‚ until it was close enough to initiate a confrontation#Beatrix was basically FED UP with the persecutions and so she fought using her fists... while he had a gun.#The bullets couldn't cause great damage‚ and were actually microchips designed to stunt robotic enemies#Beatrix barely resisted the effects and managed to take down the other... who raised its hands in defeat.#Imagine the situation: She's literally got him on the ground‚ fist raised to deliver a powerful blow while he's SHAKING IN HIS BOOTS#Turns out the microchips take effect‚ and Beatrix attempts to escape before it's too late... But her systems go off abruptly#...Then she wakes up in this cozy workshop of sorts. She goes outside and BOOM!!!#A ship moved by machinery? Robots living peacefully? People walking past her without batting an eye? This must be a dream!#She's finally found Fusionsprunt (or was found but it). The city built for and by rebells like her.#and about the golden-eyed enemy? yeah uh. that's Hunter. of course that was Hunter. he could NOT resist making a dramatic appearance.#the mysterious enemy is actually just some silly guy w workaholic tendencies father of a prodigy and who also enjoys piloting his spaceship#fusionsprunt#fusionsprunt hunter#fusionsprunt beatrix

Using a Kids On Bikes-type system for side-quests already makes for such a fun energy. Obviously it isn't suited for EVERY setting, but I do hope the bones of it continue to be implemented into future mini-seasons

In case any system out there needs to hear this:
We’re a system. We’ve been a system for over 30 years.
When we first began interacting with each other, before we had words for it, it was a bit murky. We were very young, and didn’t really understand not to talk about it. We were shamed and scared into silence. Things got really bad after that, for a long time.
Then we found a community, and words for what we were experiencing! And things started getting better! It took time, effort, and a lot of trial and error. It was sometimes stressful, sometimes scary. There are still some things we don’t understand, even after 10+ years of having words for those things and a community to talk to about it. But it did get better. And it’s no longer scary.
Being a system now is so much better. There’s so many more resources than there were even just five, ten years ago. There’s bots, and apps. It is becoming less stigmatized, slowly. And at this point, just within ourselves, we’re so much more comfortable and sure with ourselves. It’s just a natural thing, like blinking. We don’t even think about it a lot. We just are.
We love being a system. We love one another, fiercely.
And we wish the same for all other systems, and plural folk.
Keep existing. Keep communicating. Keep forming community, and asking questions. Stay curious. Forgive yourself (and/or other sysmates) for breakdowns, failures, and mistakes. Celebrate your successes and happy moments. Keep existing.

When the hyperfocus hits...
ID: a video of a lined journal with numerous silver hearts spaced out across several of the lines. When the page is turned, it reveals a large spike in the number of visible stickers on the page, including some pink and red ones. The lower half of the page is covered in stickers.

I feel like people are failing to grasp the fact that presidency in iran is just the lapdog position our supreme leader grants his biggest fascistic goon every 4 years. It cannot get worse than it already is because the president is not the one behind any of the big decisions anyway, at least not as long as khamenei is alive

Does anyone have any super specific writing or art tips that may or may not work for anyone else? Not the things you always see like "do what makes you happy," "be confident," "take breaks," etc. etc. Something specific, like how a writing method I used to have was to open a chocolate bar and take a small bite every 100 words
