i think a major thing that is overlooked in the x files is that when they do their little cutscene of them driving from washington dc to the bumfuck middle of nowhere at the start of each episode, their roadtrips must be SO long. so what are they doing in that time? are they fighting over which radio station to listen to? filling the silence with conversation? is that how they become inseparable, over mind-numbing hours on the road where stories slip off of the tongue with ease?

Sitting in the discomfort of my realization.

Sat thru a date, with my lovely fiance.

Ordered what I wanted. Ate to satiety.

1/4 of the blooming onion. 1 bun w strawberry butter. The broccoli, 3 scallops w bacon, the mushrooms & onions. Took home most of the steak.

Afterwards, we didn't go to Menards. I offered a walk and was not taken up on it. We went to look after some cats.

I had some diet pop. I listened to some book and played a tiny bit of pokemon.

When home, I fixed my mom the leftovers. She didn't eat much. I ate the over 1/4 of the blooming onion.

Ate some strawberries and 1 serving of no sugar added ice cream. Weighed out.

Am sitting in the discomfort. Had some tea while watching a movie with mom, Runaway Jury.

Tried not to overeat.

Working on not doing the whole snack all night thing. I want an apple fritter.

I don't need an apple fritter.

My steps have been low. My exercise has been low but I have been trying to focus on the house for my mental health. It has been causing so much anxiety.

it's pretty obvious at this point that i will go to insane lengths just to yoink a font i like, but i think i have reached a new record (opening up the firefox developer tools and typing in whatever chinese phrases come to mind into the font testing box in order to carefully gather all 28,954 glyphs in 133-glyph chunks that the network serves me that i will then have to laboriously combine into one font file with my font editor)

came to the realization that i'm actually... really pretty.

i don't think i'll ever know what people see when they look at me. that's just a fact of life, i guess; you can control how you present yourself to others, but not how they perceive you. that fact caused me to hide away from myself for almost a decade, practically to the point where i couldn't recognize myself in the mirror. as in, i'm familiar with my face – i'm aware that the face staring back at me is my own – but i'm not sure if i'm seeing the right thing... what that "right thing" was supposed to be, i have no idea.

i would go to lengths to make sure i was pretty by my own fucked up standards, but after hearing people describe me, i started doing things for the sake of others and not myself. i tried so hard to maintain their positive image of me that i legitimately couldn't look myself in the eyes without feeling like a fucking fraud.

because for the longest time, i believed that i was lying to people somehow. if you thought i was softspoken, i would disagree; my friends and family think i'm pretty loud. if you thought i was graceful, i would disagree; i bump into anything and everything, i have the worst butterfingers, and i'm as stiff as a board. if you thought i was pretty, i would vehemently deny that; who would see beauty in my bloated body? my fluctuating weight, my hormonal acne, my uncooperative curls. where is the beauty in that?

but just the other day, whilst i was looking at myself in the mirror, my head emptied itself to make room for a single thought:

i'm really, really pretty.

for the first time in my life, i thought i was pretty as i was. there were no filters, no hastily applied eye makeup... nothing. no comparison to my friends, no sizing myself up against the "ideal" black woman... just me and my tired eyes, my oddly shaped, day-old twist out 'fro, and my oversized stitch pajama pants.

i'm not perfect. my dark eyebrows are sisters, not twins; my under-eye area is insanely dark; my eyelashes aren't as long and prominent as they used to be; my hair is always flat somewhere, my tummy is constantly bloated, i look better with my glasses on, and i'm covered head to toe in hair that i'm not entirely proud of...

...but i'm me. i'm me, and for the first time ever, i'm so proud of that. i can look at my imperfections and think of ways to gently fix it instead of hurt myself in the process of trying to conceal it. i'm going to the gym tomorrow and making plans to buy lashes to start my makeup journey – not as a means to hide my insecurities, but to make myself feel beautiful on my own terms.

(side note: i posted a video rambling about this on my instagram story last night. i had said something along the lines of "i don't know what other people are seeing that i can't see, but i know that i finally love what i do see."

and violet, in all his infinite wisdom, replied to my story in under five minutes saying: "that's why you wear glasses."

i told him that it's on sight when i see him again, his reply was: "oh really? would you even be able to see me?"

Furiosa PSA 1/?

Been seeing a lot of misinterpretation and misinformation with regards to Furiosa, so I wanted to address just a few things I've seen going around in one place that people on here can easily refer to.

Is Furiosa replacing Max as the focus of the franchise going forward?

No. Furiosa is a prequel that's been in the works since it was originally conceived of as an anime in the 2000s until that eventually fell through. There will be no shift towards her character being the singular focus of the franchise.

Why didn't we just get a sequel with Max?

There is at least one Max story, The Wasteland, that is planned to be turned into a future project after Furiosa. It will take place between Furiosa and Fury Road. Miller just wanted to tell Furiosa's story first.

Why aren't we seeing any sign of Tom Hardy?

Despite the fact that Max may be showing up in Furiosa in some capacity, not to mention the fact that the character will obviously be the focus of the The Wasteland, Tom Hardy is likely not returning to play Max. This is in part due to his behavior on the set of Fury Road which has left Miller and co. unlikely to work with him again. He did sign on for two other projects, but at this point his reappearance is incredibly doubtful.

Who will play Max going forward?

At this point we don't know who will be carrying on the mantle of Max Rockatansky, but once we get to production on The Wasteland we'll undoubtedly get some answers. Miller is an unconventional storyteller, and so a James Bond approach to Max himself seems probable, with different actors portraying the same individual across various media.

Given that Furiosa takes place 45 years after The Fall, is Max the Feral Kid?

No. Max is the same person from the original trilogy.

Is George Miller riding the modern wave of doing prequels, reboots, etc. in order to cash in on a character that people loved in Fury Road?

Fury Road was the result of two decades of development from George Miller's initial idea of the story while standing on a sidewalk in 1996. After the initial version of the film which was supposed to star Mel Gibson as an older version of Max (to tie more directly into the period of time after Beyond Thunderdome) fell through due to the Iraq War and financial struggles, the surrounding lore of Fury Road was expanded significantly. This resulted in the creation of two other scripts which became the basis for Furiosa and The Wasteland, respectively. Taken together, Furiosa, The Wasteland, and Fury Road represent one singular trilogy tying Miller's modern iteration of Mad Max together. As a result, Furiosa is hardly some unrelated prequel banking on modern perceptions of how much people liked Furiosa-it was simply a story that was always meant to be told. The same goes for The Wasteland, which is the second chapter in what can be considered the "Fury Road Trilogy." The Wasteland itself was meant to be a video game developed as a collaboration between George Miller and Cory Barlog (the man behind the modern God Of War games), but this was something that never happened. Instead, Avalanche Studios released a game in 2015 which liberally borrowed from Miller's mythos in ways that he expressly did not want them to. As a result he distanced himself from the project and has disavowed his connection to it. It appears that there is now talk of turning The Wasteland into a TV show, but we'll have to wait and see for more confirmation on this.

Why aren't we getting Charlize Theron in Furiosa?

George Miller didn't want to use de-aging tech on this film because he thought it wasn't convincing enough.

Immortan Joe and co.?

We will be getting a good bit of a younger Immortan Joe, although to my knowledge it's still uncertain as to who's playing him. His conflict with Dementus is going to play a key role in the story of the film. Nathan Jones will be returning as Rictus Erectus, along with Angus Sampson as the Organic Mechanic. Quentin Kenihan obviously couldn't reprise his role as Corpus Colossus due to the fact that he unfortunately passed away in 2018.

Is the pacing/storytelling going to be similar to Fury Road?

Furiosa is a movie that takes place over the course of 15 years and involving multiple road wars and various other events which is going to make its storytelling significantly different to Fury Road. Whereas that narrative had one large chase stringing together all of its components, Furiosa will be vastly larger in scale and scope.

I think Asana has a right to be annoyed at Yuuga for him choosing to not even the playing field because from her perspective it makes him seem very prideful.

If I (plus a friend of mine) met you at the park after we agreed to play 1 on 1 basketball, but I said "oh you can call one of your friends too, I don't want to force my friend to sit and watch" and your response was "oh I don't need help" you make me and my friend look like a jerk for having the advantage and you're ignoring the fact one of your friends (Kaizo) went and looked for one of your friends (Neil's Maximum cards) who wanted to play. like beyond Kaizo's pride, Seatbastion literally dueled to death so Kaizo could secure those cards- he looks so arrogant right now.

Asana is shockingly patient within the card games for someone who wants to destroy Rush Dueling so much. I'd start shaking Yuuga in confusion by now.

Okay. My most haterish opinion. 9 and Rose were clashing every 2 seconds, and the fact of their relationship surviving that was part of why it ended up so strong. Ruby should have at least queried the Doctor having the opportunity to see who her mother was. As someone versed in sci-fi, I get why receiving the answers might have changed history, but it was an opportunity for character drama, and I'm a little puzzled on why Russel T didn't take it. It might get explained by the finale. But this is also why applying the mystery box formula to the companion doesn't work all that well.
