#Sasuke: huh… noted…

Note
Neji lowkey picking up on Guy’s “eternal rival” stuff when it comes to relationships because he’s the only positive male figure in his life. The results are interesting to say the least.
Neji: Naruto, I have seen you splattered with the blood of our enemies, glowing with demonic chakra, and hunched over my dying body with corpses surrounding us in a bloody portrayal of our connection. So before we die yet again, I must tell you this: you are my eternal partner.
Naruto, the most heartfelt mf ever: I would do this all over again just to know you for a second longer.
Sakura, Sasuke, Lee, and Tenten in the background as they watch Naruto and Neji make heart eyes at each other m ownnb damn well this is the first time they met:
Tumblr media
THIS
Both because if anyone ever mentioned Neji had picked up the eternal rival thing he would deny it to his dying breath(s he would argue about his through many loops tbh) and also because the two of them would be so ferally protective over each other after they got out and so attached to each other after so much shared trauma that their relationship would be so much more than any friend/lover/etc could ever hope to encompass.
But partner? They had been partners for so long. Had felt the other’s blood coating their hands and heard their dying screams rattling around their head. Had stood back to back when everyone else had fallen and made the bastards work for it. Had clung to each other in the few times they made it long enough to see the night, neither sleeping but both so entwined that they shared each breath and felt their hearts beat in time.
They go into this strangers and leave battlefield married and everyone else is so confused.

SASUKE UCHIHA — ❝ THE LAST UCHIHA ❞
Tumblr media
Sasuke wouldn’t initially understand his feelings for you, unsure of how they differed from those of a friend to a potential lover. Knowing Sasuke, he wouldn’t confess to you due to his past mistakes and doubts about whether he could give you what you want. But that would soon change once he returned to the village and saw you hanging out with a random guy who kept making you laugh at a vendor shop. When you noticed your teammate returning, you waved at him, not realizing the glare he was directing at your friend. Before you could get a word out, Sasuke gently grabbed your arm and pulled you away, making you follow him out of the store without a chance to say goodbye. He kept walking silently until you were alone in a random alleyway, hidden from prying eyes.
“Hey! Sasuke, what was that about? Is everything okay?”
"Who was that?" he asked, his eyes focused on your delicate features that he had grown to admire. You tilted your head, confused by his question.
"Huh? Oh, you mean Lino! He’s just a friend I've been visiting," you said, not noticing how your comment made him feel a bit jealous. Sasuke kept quiet, pondering whether he should say anything or continue to avoid his feelings for you. He wondered if you truly liked him the way he liked you, fearing the possibility of rejection.
Your eyes grew concerned as you watched the stoic male avoid eye contact. “I hope you know that I… I missed you,” you confessed, shyly looking to the side as his head shot up, eyes slightly widened. “I’m just glad you’re back now, even if it's only for a little bit. I’m happy you’re okay.”
Your heart suddenly raced faster than you could maintain as the stoic male grabbed your hand, holding it lightly before gripping it firmly with warmth. You glanced up, your face warming from the contact as you witnessed a small smile appear on his face. You had always had a crush on Sasuke since you became teammates on Team 7 with Naruto and Sakura, but you always hid your feelings deep down. You doubted that you would ever have a chance with Sasuke Uchiha.
"I’m glad you missed me… 'cause I’ve missed you too," he confessed, pulling you closer as you listened intently. "I… I didn’t understand this feeling, wondering what made me feel this way until I realized it was you."
You held your breath, nothing around you capturing your attention except the male in front of you.
“I thought about you the whole time I was away,” Sasuke sighed, gathering the courage to speak his feelings. “I realized that I’ve liked you for quite some time.”
Surprise consumed you, eyes wide open at the confession. You never expected this, especially from Sasuke, who usually wasn’t the type to express his feelings. But here you were, discovering that Sasuke Uchiha liked you, apparently for a long time now. Your heart swelled as a large smile spread across your lips, gripping his hand more tightly than before. Sasuke felt all the tension loosen from his shoulders as his admiration for you grew stronger from your words.
“I've always liked you, Sasuke, for years. And I will continue to do so as long as I’m by your side.”
ITACHI UCHIHA — ❝ ITACHI OF THE SHARINGAN ❞
Tumblr media
Itachi found himself in a rare moment of contemplation, leaning against the sturdy trunk of a cherry blossom tree. He allowed his thoughts to drift to a singular figure that seemed to occupy every corner of his mind: you. Closing his eyes, Itachi attempted to unravel the enigma of his feelings. When had he fallen in love with you? The question lingered in his mind like a persistent shadow.
He recalled the first time he met you, your bright eyes reflecting curiosity and kindness, a stark contrast to the darkness that often enveloped his world. At that moment, something stirred within him, a whisper of possibility that he dared not acknowledge, frustrating his inner being with the thoughts. As time passed, your presence became a constant in his life, weaving its way into the fabric of his existence. Like music to his ears, your laughter echoed in his memories, warming even the coldest corners of his heart. Your unwavering support during challenging missions, and your gentle encouragement in moments of doubt—each interaction etched itself into his soul, leaving an indelible mark.
It was difficult for him to accept a different form of love to enter his complicated heart.
Now, under the cascading petals of the cherry blossom tree, the realization hit him with a gale force. His chest tightened, and he opened his eyes, staring at the soft pink petals fluttering around him, their beauty a stark reminder of his vulnerability. He took a deep breath, feeling the weight of his emotions settle within him.
"Why do you make me feel like this?" he muttered to himself, the question laden with confusion and a touch of exasperation.
Just then, he heard footsteps approaching. He turned his head and saw you walking towards him, your presence immediately calming the storm of his thoughts. You smiled, and he felt the familiar warmth spread through him, a warmth that he now recognized as love.
"Itachi, are you alright?" you asked, concerned.
He hesitated, his usual stoic demeanor cracking under the intensity of his feelings. For a moment, he considered staying silent, keeping his turmoil hidden. But then he realized he couldn't continue like this, trapped in his own emotions.
"It’s you," he said quietly, his voice steady despite the turmoil inside. "You make me feel like this." Your eyes widened slightly, surprise and curiosity flickering across your face. "What do you mean?"
He took a step closer, his gaze never leaving yours. "Every time I see you and hear your voice, I feel something I can't ignore anymore. It’s confusing and frustrating, but I can't deny it any longer. I... I love you."
The words hung in the air between you, a confession that felt both liberating and terrifying. Itachi's heart raced as he awaited your response, hoping that the feelings he'd kept hidden for so long would not be met with rejection.
You blinked, absorbing his words, and then a soft smile spread across your face. "Itachi," you said gently, taking his rough hands into your own. "I love you too."
Relief washed over him, and for the first time in a long while, he allowed himself to truly smile. The complicated emotions that had plagued him began to untangle, replaced by a sense of peace he hadn't known was possible. At that moment, under the cherry blossom tree, Itachi Uchiha found solace in your embrace, knowing that he no longer had to face his feelings alone. With gentle tenderness, he leaned forward and planted a soft kiss on your forehead, a silent affirmation of his love and gratitude.
SHISUI UCHIHA — ❝ THE BODY FLICKER ❞
Tumblr media
The sound of clashing kunai echoed through the training grounds as you and Shisui sparred under the burning sun. Shisui's movements, usually swift and precise, seemed distracted today, his mind elsewhere. You noticed his unfocused gaze and slower reactions, wondering what could be bothering him. As you circled each other, you saw another opening and took it, landing a solid hit to his head. Shisui stumbled back, rubbing the spot where you had struck him, his expression a mix of pain and embarrassment.
"What’s wrong with you today?" you demanded, frustration clear in your tone. "You're not paying attention and using your full potential."
Shisui sighed, lowering his eyes to the ground. "I'm sorry," he muttered, avoiding your gaze. "I know I should be doing better."
Your annoyance faded slightly as you watched him. Shisui Uchiha, one of the most talented shinobi in the village, was never one to slack off during training. Something had to be seriously bothering him.
"Well, what's going on?" you asked, softer this time. "You can tell me."
Shisui hesitated, his mind racing. He had been overthinking his feelings for you for days, his thoughts a tangled mess of confusion and longing. He hadn't meant to let it affect his training, but being so close to you, yet unable to express how he felt, was driving him to lose focus.
"I... it's just..." he began, struggling to find the right words. "I've been thinking a lot lately, about... things." You raised an eyebrow, waiting for him to continue. "Things? What things?"
He took a deep breath, his heart pounding in his chest. "About you," he blurted out before he could stop himself. "I couldn’t understand why I was feeling this way until I realized that I… I like you!"
The silence that followed was deafening. Shisui's eyes widened as he realized what he had just confessed, his face turning crimson. He hadn't meant to say it, especially not like this.
Your eyes widened in surprise, taken aback by his sudden admission. "Shisui..."
"I-I'm sorry," he stammered, backing away slightly. "I didn't mean to... I mean, I did, but not like this. I just..."
You stepped forward, placing a hand on his shoulder. "Shisui, it's okay," you said gently, a smile tugging at your lips. "You don't have to apologize.”
Shisui stood up from the ground, wiping off any dirt as he avoided eye contact, his face still flushed with embarrassment. "I thought you knew," he murmured. "I don’t even use my Sharingan and barely put any power into my movements during our training sessions..."
"I just thought you were going easy on me," you admitted, rubbing the back of your head and feeling a bit foolish for not realizing the obvious signs. However, a warmth spread through you at his vulnerability, and a glowing grin appeared on your lips. "Well, for the record, I like you too."
The relief that washed over Shisui's face was palpable, his tense shoulders relaxing as he let out a breath he hadn't realized he was holding. "Well, of course, you fell for my charms. How could you not?" he teased, a playful smile breaking through his worried expression.
You chuckled and shoved a hand against his shoulder. "Don’t get too ahead of yourself now. How about we continue sparring? But this time, I expect you to give it your all if you want to win over my heart fully."
Shisui grinned, feeling the weight of his unspoken feelings finally lifts. "Oh, you've got yourself a bet."
As you resumed your positions, you both couldn't shake the feeling that the sparring match had taken on a new, deeper significance. At that moment, under the fading light of the day, you both understood that this was the start of something special. The connection between you had deepened, turning a simple sparring match into a cherished memory. After the match (Shisui won), you sat together, hands linked, feeling a sense of peace and happiness, knowing that you had found something truly wonderful with each other.
MADARA UCHIHA — ❝ GHOST OF THE UCHIHA ❞
Tumblr media
Madara Uchiha, a man known for his iron will and unyielding resolve, found himself ensnared in an internal struggle that defied his every attempt at control. His feelings for you had become a thorn in his side, a relentless source of annoyance that he couldn’t simply brush away. In an attempt to cope, he had begun to distance himself from you, hoping that the space would extinguish the unwanted emotions. However, it only served to exacerbate the situation. You noticed his sudden coldness, the way he avoided your presence and cut conversations short. Hurt and frustrated, you decided to confront him. You found him in a secluded courtyard, his back turned as he stared out at the night sky, lost in thought.
“Madara,” you called out, your voice firm. “We need to talk.”
He didn’t turn, his silence only fueling your frustration. You walked closer, refusing to be ignored. “Why have you been avoiding me? What did I do?”
“It’s nothing,” he replied tersely, still not facing you.
“It’s not nothing!” you snapped, moving to stand in front of him, forcing him to meet your eyes. “Tell me what’s going on!”
His jaw tightened, and you could see the storm brewing behind his dark eyes. “Just leave it alone,” he said, standing up from his spot to walk away.
“No,” you insisted, stepping into his path. “I won’t leave it alone. You owe me an explanation.”
The tension between you reached a breaking point. Madara’s frustration finally erupted. With a swift motion, he punched the wall beside him, cracks radiating out from the impact of his chakra. Despite the sudden action, you remained unflinching, eyes locked on his as you had anticipated this eruption from the stubborn Uchiha.
“Why do you have this effect on me?” he shouted, his voice a mixture of anger and desperation. “Why can’t I stop thinking about you? It’s infuriating!”
Your breath caught in your throat, but you pressed on, your voice softer now. “Why didn’t you just tell me?” you asked. “Why push me away?”
“Because I’m in love with you!” he roared, the confession tearing out of him. “And I hate it! I hate that I can’t control it, that you make me feel this way!”
The raw intensity of his words hung in the air, his chest heaving from the outburst. You stepped closer, reaching out to gently touch his arm. “Madara,” you said softly, “you don’t have to fight it. I love you too.”
His eyes softened, the storm within them calming. Vulnerability seeped through his usually stoic facade as he looked at you. “You... do?”
“Yes,” you replied, your voice steady and sincere. “From the moment we met after the war, I knew I did.”
For a moment, silence enveloped them, allowing his words to sink in. Then, slowly, he pulled you into his arms, holding you tightly as if afraid you might slip away. “I’ve been a fool,” he murmured against your hair, the tension in his body easing. “I should have told you sooner.”
You wrapped your arms around him, feeling the solidity of his presence. “We’ll figure it out together,” you whispered.
In that embrace, the world seemed to shrink until it was just the two of you. Madara finally allowed himself to let go of the control he had clung to so fiercely. The future might still be uncertain, but with you by his side, he knew he could face whatever came next.
OBITO UCHIHA — ❝ THE MASKED MAN ❞
Tumblr media
In the hidden depths of Obito Uchiha's heart, emotions swirled like a tumultuous storm, leaving him lost in a haze of confusion. Amidst the chaos of his thoughts, he struggled to decipher the true nature of his feelings for you. He watched you from afar, his heart yearning for something more, yet fearing the consequences of exposing his true emotions to the light. Each friendly gesture and shared moment deepened his uncertainty, leaving him adrift in a sea of conflicting emotions.
Day after day, he found himself drawn to you like a moth to a flame, captivated by your smile, your laughter, your mere presence. Yet, beneath the surface of his admiration, a seed of jealousy lay dormant, gnawing at his soul whenever he saw you with another man. He attempted to suppress the pang of envy that pierced his heart whenever he witnessed you in someone else's company, but the feeling only intensified with each passing day. The mere thought of someone else holding your attention, of another person eliciting the smiles he longed to see from you, was unbearable to him.
Then, one fateful day, his worst fears materialized as he stumbled upon you in the village, your laughter intertwined with that of another man's. A surge of jealousy engulfed him, threatening to consume him whole as he watched the scene unfold before his eyes, witnessing a random leaf ninja bid farewell to you.
Unable to contain his emotions any longer, the words spilled from Obito's lips in a rush of desperation and longing. "I can't stand seeing you with him!" he blurted out, his voice laced with bitterness.
You turned to face him, surprise flickering in your eyes at his outburst and undetected presence. "Obito, what are you talking about?"
Obito took a shaky breath, his heart pounding, struggling to find the right words. "I–I'm sorry. It's just... I've been confused about my feelings for you and the way you affect my entire being. And then seeing you with him... it hurts."
A heavy silence settled between them, the weight of his confession hanging in the air like a shroud. And then, to his surprise, you reached out and took his hand in yours, your touch sending a jolt of warmth through his veins. "Obito… Say it, please."
He sighed, feeling the weight of his emotions pressing down upon him like a suffocating blanket, his face burning from your intense look. “I know we're friends, and I value that more than anything, but I believe there's something more between us. And it's driving me insane because I… I cherish you deeply!”
Awaiting the sudden rejection, to his shock, you placed his hand against your cheek, your face nuzzling against his warmed palms as you graced him with the same sweet smile he had grown to love dearly.
“I've always loved you, Obito, ever since we became classmates in the academy. I knew that the boy who declared himself to be the next Hokage with those big goggles on his face was truly someone I would always admire.”
His heart skipped a beat at your words, a rush of euphoria flooding his senses as he realized how long you had waited for him. He couldn't believe his luck and fathom that the person he had been pining for felt the same way about him for so long. And as you leaned in closer, your lips brushing against his in a tender kiss, Obito felt as though he were floating on air. In that moment, amidst the chaos of his emotions, he found a sense of clarity and peace, knowing that he had finally found the person who would stand by his side through thick and thin.

july 2024 savanaclaw + 4koma manga updates
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's no Episode of Octavinelle chapter this month! It should also be noted that the next chapter for the Episode of Savanaclaw won't be out until DECEMBER. With that news out of the way, let's get into this month's updates ^^ (It's a lot of me screaming)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aaaaaah, I'll never get over how pretty this mangaka draws Leona's eyes and hair 😳 LIKE LOOK AT THAT HEAD TURN BACK SHOT, DOES HE NOT LOOK LIKE HE'S A MODEL MAKING A TURN ON THE CATWALK???? ?? ? ????? ? ?? Vil... eat your heart out 🤡 (This probably is not what I should be focusing on in a chapter full of action and high stakes qwegkuvqwoevqwdsa)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The way the other characters are reacting to Leona's UM really lets us see how powerful King's Roar is! You can see how their bodies are being pushed back by the sandstorm, how they're physically bracing themselves against it (like Riddle, Ace, and Grim) or even having their vision obscured and struggling to breathe in the new dry environment (like Deuce).
I didn't share them here, but we also see Leona blowing through many Savanaclaw mobs. The sheer magnitude of power on display is really amazing--and I can see why his UM sparks fear in others.
Tumblr media
AYO RUGGIE YOU GO He leaps at Leona and attaches himself to his dorm leader in an attempt to try and get him to stop...
(Warning: lot of barking incoming)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
HUH????? ? ? ? ? ?? ? ? RUGGGIEIEKZ/???? ? ? ?? ?? ? ? v LEONAKL88onanasan???a?A/a/a///A//???????v? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?ohy mMYG FUFDSKDCKCIUNG GOAFKDk dsmdasnkdfsjlbyadosibiyoadsobadfbiyoegwofaegsouqetqfe LE*inAIBN na GRABBED HJSJUIJN IM BYT THE FFUCKINGGF F NNEDCKKKK>>>>>>????v?v?v??v?v?v?v? 😱 LOOkm at thhHOW RUgigie'es sa FACE AIj ssamS BREAKJGN???? ?? ? ? ? ? ? ? GSITHE SKING IS CRACKIXNG GFAN D TURNING NTO SAND ANDN LOEONA JUST DONES'T JBI EF VE A SINGLE SHITAS RUGIGIE SI WRITHTING OVER HERB E OTL
It's not like seeing Ruggie in this state is anything new; the dialogue hints at it in the game and the light novel also has an illustration of Ruggie with his skin cracking from Leona's UM. It's just... something about seeing it depicted across multiple frames + the sheer desperation in Ruggie's face (and the close-ups, MAN, the close-ups) really amplifies the emotions.
Tumblr media
THIS IS LITERALLY THE SASUKE CHOKE MEME, ID ON'T TKNOW WHETHER TO LAUGH OR TO CRY OR TO BE WORRIED FOR TRUGIGIE
MAYBE ALL THREE 😭😭😭
DAHLBEFQBOUFQEYVIQEFYFQEBIPFOA But also there's a part of me screeching about L*ona gripping your neck like that while glaring at you like you're garbo 🤡
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here's the part where Riddle attempts to collar Leona and fails. Again, I MUST stress how well this mangaka draws Leona's hair and eyes, they are UNMATCHED.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
OKAY FIRST IT WAS HUGGING RUGGIE'S NECK, NOW YOU'RE GRIPPING HIM BY THE HAIR????? Leona's handling the perceived traitor so callously 💦 The way Ruggie is looking back up at him, too... Caught up in Leona's shadow and glaring at him with such defiance... declaring that he will never EVER give up.., contrasted with how broken and empty Leona looks before he lets go of Ruggie... telling him to just give into despair… It's a lot of complicated feelings going on right now. As the Savanaclaw light novel elucidates, Leona was afraid of his own dorm members looking to him for leadership, afraid that they would make him hopeful again--because he expects to be let down like he has all those other times he tried to prove his merits. Now everything leading up to this point has proven him right, toppled that hope he had built up because he let himself be taken in by the starry eyed students under him, Ruggie included. AND NOW LOOKING AT RUGGIE, ON THE GROUND AND IN DESPAIR, IS A REFLECTION OF LEONA'S OWN FEELINGS... BUT HE WON'T LET HIMSELF CRY OR BE WEAK LIKE THAT 💀
Tumblr media
WOW UH This feels really different from how the same "Leona tried to sand Ruggie" scenes played out in other interpretations of TWST. Here, we more clearly see that, despite the interruption of Riddle trying to collar Leona (which made Leona drop Ruggie for a second), LEONA JUST TURNS RIGHT BACK AROUND AND FULLY COMMITS TO SANDING RUGGIE????? That's so stone cold 😭 Look at the lack of care in Leona's eyes???? They're so blank, he has entirely given up :((
What a way to end a chapter...
Now for a complete tonal shift--
Tumblr media
This month's 4koma (there's only one "segment") stars Sebek, who is receiving praise from Crewel for having the top exam score! Ace and Sebek proceed to work on Enigmics/Magic Analysis together. They are stated to share this class together in the game, so that's a consistent bit of lore for ya! In the end, Sebek's able to pull a transportation spell by visualizing where Malleus is. He earns an apple from Crewel for being a "good boy"!! Sebek is then asked to teleport the apple to Malleus and Lilia to demonstrate his mastery of the skill, but accidentally teleports a ton of them.
That's it for this month! A little less content than usual, but still quite substantive. We're getting down to the wire; soon we'll see both Leona and Azul's OBs!!

"sakura, good morning!" shizune waves her over and gives her coffee.
"busy day huh." most days, she's thankful the hospital staff already knows her preferred brew—dark, hot, bitter.
"you wouldn't believe what just happened though." shizune sips her iced latte. "sasuke asked for your schedule."
sakura takes a beat to reply, savoring instead the aromatic notes that slowly wake her 18-hour-shift-riddled senses. "oh yeah. we agreed to discuss new chore arrangements."
"you're living together."
"he's sleeping over."
"living. together."
"should i blush?" sakura winces. "besides, it has only been a few months. well, a year."
shizune slaps her back and leaves in a giddy. "you're already blushing, lover girl."
===
"hey thanks for dropping these off." naruto grins at her through towering stacks of folders.
"we really should organize a courier system or tap into those digital things gaara has been using in suna."
"totally agree with you." he hands her a chocolate bar. for a few minutes, they pass the sugar supply back and forth, grateful for the silence and the little indulgent treat from olden days.
"by the way, sasuke has been asking some weird things."
"such as?"
"like your favorite color, favorite food, favorite music." naruto gets the last chocolate cube. he cracks it into uneven halves and gives the smaller one to her, as usual. "so i told him mine are red and shoyu ramen."
sakura laughs and pops the piece into her mouth. "back to work, future hokage-san."
===
"where's ino?"
sai hands her an apron and an order slip. sakura releases a petulant sigh, rolls her eyes, and begins to pick the flowers listed. she waits until sai settles on the presentation and prods again.
"supplier issue." he shows her a peony and a carnation.
"the peony definitely."
sai shrugs and finishes off the bouquet. "we had a curious customer earlier."
"hmm?"
"sasuke came in. he said he didn't want reds. it would be too obvious, he said. so i suggested whites."
"mums?"
"uh-uh and roses and lilies."
sakura turns pensive at this. "he must have bought them for his family." she smiles at sai and pats him on the shoulder. "you're sometimes kind-hearted, aren't you?"
sai's fixed smile fades. "sakura, he didn't—"
a customer dings the bell and sakura, already sensing sai's intention, slips out of the boutique like a true swift kunoichi.
===
"haruno-san."
"yes, i know it's midnight and i need to go home."
the guard loiters by her door. "actually, you have a visitor. he's at the wisteria arch."
"oh? but it's so late. can't this wait until morning?"
"it's the uchiha ma'am," the guard purses his lips, "he's been camping since eight in the evening."
sakura runs. she hates running in corridors, particularly when half of the people are asleep, but she manages to reach the grounds without an ambush diagnostic or a surprise checkup.
sasuke is waiting. there is a picnic blanket in a hideous shade of bright red under him, a basket, a bouquet, a bottle of wine that must be lukewarm by now.
"shizune said you were free tonight," he said.
"what's all this for?" sakura has to catch her breath. she sits across him and takes him in. gorgeous, even under the pale moonlight.
"i never got the right answers." sasuke pulls every item out of the basket. thermos for hot water, instant ramen packs, dango, a lunchbox that smells like curry, spring rolls. "i don't know exactly what you like. i don't know if you still like the food that you liked when we were kids."
"i still have a sweet tooth," sakura chuckles as she reaches for the dango.
"but i noticed you always ask me to cook curry and you never fail to look for spring rolls."
"because you cook curry the best, sasuke-kun, that's why i love it the most."
he avoids her chiding glance and hands her instead the bunch of daffodils. "i also don't know if you still like these flowers. you would pick them up in the forest, remember? trying to make me and naruto and kakashi wear these crowns of yellow blooms."
sakura laughs at the surfacing memories. "they're very beautiful, sasuke-kun." she basks for a while in the afterglow of his awkward yet patient persistence as he scoots closer to her side and slowly brushes her fingers against his in reacquaintance.
"what's with all these though? what did i miss?" sakura entangles their hands together, his thumb caressing her knuckles.
"happy anniversary."
"..."
"..."
"fuck."
"not here sakura."
"i forgot about it! fuck!"
"it's okay, let me." sasuke plants her down with a hand on her cheek. "you're busy, and there are few things in life i look forward in celebrating."
"i'm so sorry."
"i think it's me who has to apologize. i haven't nailed down everything."
"well, we've got the rest of our lives to figure that out."
sasuke hides a smile. "that's a plan."

summary: The genin squad and reader say goodbye to each other to train.
Uchiha Sasuke
Sasuke was already in a delicate state following the Forest of Death portion of the chunin exams. His curse mark was sealed, sure, and he secured his passage to the tournament. But he could see that the next month would be pure and utter hell. The only thing that he thought would get him through was being able to annoy you with his attitude.
That hope was lost when you told him you were leaving later that day to train for the next round as well. Somewhere far away. You won’t be back for a month. Sasuke didn’t really hear much after that. He would scoff, push you away verbally, the works. Yeah, you weren’t his friend or anything, never were. You’re abandoning him like everyone else, how could you be?
“Go away and train. It’s not like it will do anything for you.”
A melancholy smile would blossom on your face. Wordlessly, you would step towards Sasuke and kiss his cheek. Huh? What? But you just said you were leaving him alone for the next month. He’s absolutely baffled by your conflicting actions. Before he could figure out just what the hell was going on, you would grab his hand and slip a simple metal bangle on his wrist. In an act of defense, Sasuke would push you away and grimace.
However, that didn’t wipe the smile off of your face. You were pushed away physically but not mentally. Not emotionally. In a moment of vulnerability you would say to Sasuke: “I will be back. Don’t worry yourself, alright?” He wasn’t convinced until you raised your own hand and showed him a matching bracelet on your own wrist. “These will symbolize our bond for the next month. And beyond, if you don’t mind,” you would say, winking at him.
Even though Sasuke’s face was set into a deep scowl, his true feelings were betrayed by the fact that he wasn’t blowing up on you or trying to rip the bracelet off. He was just twirling it around his wrist with a hint of curiosity in his eyes. You would smile at him once more, a cheery and bright one this time, as you waved to him and followed the road to the gate of the village to meet your teacher.
The bangle would become Sasuke’s most prized possession; he wouldn’t take it off for anything for a time. While I do think he would take it off after leaving the village, in an effort to destroy all of his bonds and gain power, something repressed within him couldn’t get rid of it. So instead, he would carry it in the depths of his packs to forget about it, though it would frustrate him from time to time. When he eventually comes back to the village and sees you still wearing yours after all the time you’ve been apart, he is consumed by grief and tries his best to reconnect with you. Now, he can never be seen without his own bracelet — he even sleeps with it on.
Haruno Sakura
Sakura has a sixth sense when it comes to people leaving the village to train. So, I honestly think she would figure out that it’s what you wanted to do with your sensei before you even made up your mind. She saw it in your eyes when you looked up to your teacher. The adoration, the determination. It was the same way Sakura looked at Tsunade.
Your imminent departure was bittersweet for her, however. Sakura was certain that she loved you, in that thirteen year old crush way. When you pick someone and make your entire personality obsessing over them. You guys hung out all of the time too, goofing off and getting meals around Konoha. Sakura could really be herself around you. What would she do without you?
Maybe she could go with you! But Tsunade was the Hokage, she wouldn’t be able to do anything to train Sakura from so far away. So, she brainstormed. What could possibly keep the two of you connected for so long? If you truly were going away, you may be gone as long as Naruto said he would be. That’s three years. You might forget about her.
These thoughts swirled in her head for days, waiting for your departure day to bid you farewell. Would she be able to send you letters? Maybe she can visit you when she’s off. Or perhaps you’ll visit the village yourself!
Before Sakura knew it, though, she was standing face-to-face with you at the gate of Konoha, tears streaming down her face. The insecurities of the past few days rose up to the surface, and she moved forward to hug you. Before she could, though, you held out a carved wooden bracelet, the birch wood scraped down to perfect beads and strung together with a piece of wire.
“I made one for myself, too. So we’ll be connected no matter how far apart we are. I will be back, though, so this is only temporary!” you told Sakura, a smile gracing your features despite your tears. She would collapse into your arms with another sob, crushing your bones in a hug. You reciprocated, placing a kiss on her forehead before letting go and walking away with your sensei. Sakura would never forget that moment, and neither would you. Three years is a long time but she’ll wait for you. There’s an end in sight, and she is reminded every time she puts on your bracelet.
Rock Lee
Now Rock Lee, I think he would actually go with you if you were to leave to train for a period of time longer than a month or two. We’re talking about a boy who will absolutely be whipped for anyone he crushes on with a mentor that is friends with conceivably every jonin-level ninja in the village. Yeah, y’all are training together if you let him. However, he would learn that you’re leaving on the day of, so this scenario still goes down.
I think Lee would take the news very bad at first and dramatically beg you to stay in the village. He would be on his hands and knees begging you, holding your hands in a vice grip to keep you from getting away from him. There would definitely be tears shed. Lee is just that kind of guy who wears his heart on his sleeve and is full of dramatics!
You would give him a simple steel bracelet, with some weight to it, of course, while he’s still trying to get you to stay. “Lee, please don’t worry about me. I’ll only be gone for a short while,” you would tell him amusedly. “Keep this bracelet on to remind yourself of me. I’ll be wearing a similar one, so we won’t be completely disconnected while I’m away.”
Now Lee would be blushing and you would have actually made him stop talking for a second. His hands were still clasped onto your wrists, so you would help him up… sneaking a kiss onto his lips very quickly. You would make him question if you even did it, but he knows his senses do not lie. You just kissed him. Like, for real. His face would get even more red, if that’s even possible. There was no way Rock Lee thought he would be able to take another step in his life as he watched you release yourself from his grip, wave goodbye, and turn around to go.
“I need to find Guy-sensei! We will train together!” he would shout, going against his body’s instincts and darting around to find his teacher. Of course, I think Might Guy would be up for an adventure and to help his precious student experience “the joys of youth”. So before you leave the village, Might Guy and Lee catch up with you and your teacher, bags hastily packed and ready for a journey.
“After what just happened, I cannot let you go to train alone! I will keep you company!” Rock Lee would exclaim, making it your turn to blush. Whoever your sensei is, they would be more than happy for you to have a friend and Might Guy tag along, perhaps you two would be able to take each other to new heights by sharing the experience of training together. Well, if you’re learning from Kakashi he would be miffed about this, but him and Guy are still friends so I think he would still allow it (and be secretly happy that his entertainment beyond Icha Icha is figured out).
Hyuga Neji
So you really decided to go. It had been a point of discussion between you and Neji for a few weeks. After all, you respected his opinion as a professional ninja, so you wanted to see what he thought about taking some time off to go and train rigorously. At first, he would be against it, halfway for selfish reasons and halfway for practical ones. Neji wouldn’t say outright that he would miss you, but it’s implied, since he tells you with uncharacteristic vigor about how taking missions from Konoha is one of the best ways to grow your skills.
After deliberating with a lot of other people, though, the Hokage herself included, you notice that Neji was the only voice of dissent. Everyone else thought that getting out of your home to experience new things without being bound by duty was a fantastic idea for your personal growth as a shinobi. Naturally, you would become suspicious, since you already had an inkling that Neji felt some sort of way towards you. He was ever so slightly nicer with you, he would fix your mistakes during training more kindly than with others, etc. And you have to say, if Neji does in fact have a crush on you, you feel the same way.
You hatch up a plan to confront Neji about this when you leave, and when the day comes, it’s genuinely a little nerve-wracking. What if you had guessed wrong? What if Neji was just giving you some genuine advice all of those years? And he really wasn’t treating you with any favoritism, you were just imagining it because you wanted to? It was too late to back down, though, when you were met face-to-face with Neji and were holding a gift bag with an intricately carved wooden bracelet that matched the one you always wore.
“Hey Neji, I’m leaving for training soon. I’ll be gone a long time, so I… wanted to give you this bracelet to remember me. It seemed like you didn’t want me to go, so I thought it would be appropriate to get you something to remember me by." You would say this to him, put the bag in his hands, and kiss him before he could even register what was going on. Your back would turn to him and start to leave. Neji would grab your hand with as much composure as possible before you could retreat too far, looking into your eyes and saying "Thank you," before letting you go.
Hyuga Hinata
Hinata experiences intense dismay when she learns that you're leaving. She hasn't even had the opportunity to talk to you more than pleasantries and discussion about training! Mainly because you seem to brush her off at every opportunity. But even with this kick to actually go up to you, Hinata is paralyzed by fear. You're her crush, what if you reject her? What if you hate her after she tries to just become your closer friend?
The same thoughts were running through your head. You really liked Hinata ever since your Academy days, but her aloof personality towards you made you think that she is scared of you, hesitant to even interact with you for some reason. So, you tended to keep your distance out of respect. But if you would be leaving for a year, it would be perfect for a coward like you to confess and then jump ship.
That is exactly what you planned, though it seemed rude to leave Hinata high and dry like that. Thus, you packaged a letter confessing your feelings with a gemstone bracelet that you managed to buy in the shopping district. It matched with your own, so you figured that if you came back and Hinata was wearing the bracelet, she reciprocated.
On the day you left, Hinata was beating herself up that she didn't have the guts to go up to you at the gate, only waving you goodbye with all of your friends. She was sulking in her room when a messenger bird picked on her window. Inside of the package it carried was a letter and a small gift.
Hinata, I'm dearly sorry for the way I'm about to do this. I really, really like you. I understand it's the coward's way out, sending you a letter like this after I've left Konoha for a year. But I get the impression that you are scared of me, so I held back for the past few years. Please, accept this gift, and if you return my feelings, wear it until I return so I can see it with you.
Of course, the day you return, Hinata is proudly displaying her bracelet that she never took off to you with a red blush across her cheeks. You lean in to kiss the blush away, but it only deepens as your lips grace her face.

Saved By The Bell - Naruto Tickle Fic
Fandom: Naruto Shippuden
Summary: During the second bell test, Naruto makes an interesting discovery about his Sensei.
Content Warning: mild language
Word Count: 2.7k
Author's Note: it has been SO LONG since i last wrote a fic so i'm v nervous about posting this, but i am pretty proud of it! i hope you enjoy!
Naruto and Sakura ducked behind a tree, breathing heavily as they tried to recover some energy from all of the failed attempts at retrieving the bells from Kakashi. Their brains were moving a mile a minute, trying desperately to figure out a new tactic. It’s been about three years since the first time they had tried to do this, and as strong as the two of them have gotten in that time, it was still incredibly difficult. It didn’t help that the pressure was up this time as Lady Tsunade, the Fifth Hokage and Sakura’s mentor, and Jiraiya, Naruto’s mentor, were watching and evaluating their fight. With the extra amount of pressure they were feeling, the two of them couldn’t help but wonder if they had even progressed much at all.
Kakashi, however, felt the amount of growth his students had achieved. As opposed to last time they fought him like this, he wasn’t daring to let even a little bit of his guard down. He knew how much stronger Naruto and Sakura had become, and because of this, he knew he’d be defeated easily if he relaxed for even a second. Even so, he couldn’t fully keep his mind away from his new “Make-Out Tactics” book that Naruto had brought him. He’d never dare to start reading while facing opponents like these, but the desire was there, and it was strong.
Naruto sighed, his breath becoming steadier. “Man, that Kakashi is ridiculously strong. I mean, he’s smarter than Shikamaru, he has a better sense of smell than Kiba, his Sharingan is better than Sasuke’s, his Taijutsu is better than Lee’s… and he’s got way more experience than us.”
“You’re right, but even so…” Sakura interjected curiously, “even he must have a weakness.” She squinted her eyes as if to see the possibilities written out in front of her. “We just have to think about it…”
“A weakness, huh?” Naruto wondered aloud, joining Sakura and becoming deep in thought. He cycled through every fight he’s seen Kakashi in, trying to figure out what his weakness could possibly be. It was hard to find the answer with an opponent so strong. Maybe, his weakness wasn’t a physical thing, like a blind spot. Maybe… Naruto gasped suddenly. “I’ve got it!”
Sakura’s head whipped towards Naruto in surprise, her brow slightly furrowed. “Really? You know Kakashi’s weakness? Tell me!” She leaned in, prompting him to whisper so no one would overhear their plotting. Naruto stifled a giggle, playing out his ridiculous plan in his head.
“Sakura, think about it for a minute. If you really look back at all of Kakashi Sensei’s actions, you’ll know what I’m thinking of.” Naruto smirked, waiting for Sakura to think of it, too. She did think very hard, in fact. Alas, she wasn’t able to see it the way that Naruto did so clearly. He beckoned her close to him and whispered his plan into her ear. As the words left his mouth, her face switched from a confused expression into a wide, scheming smile.
“Oh, I get it now! Naruto, that’s a genius idea!” She exclaimed, feeling her hands begin to shake in excitement. “You really are the most unpredictable knucklehead ninja I’ve ever met.” Naruto growled, lightly smacking Sakura in the arm, making her laugh.
“Hey! How dare you call me a knucklehead when I just came up with that amazing plan! You said it yourself, it was genius.” He smirked, crossing his arms in a playfully arrogant way. Sakura rolled her eyes at his actions.
“No matter how many great plans you come up with, you’ll always be a knucklehead to me, Naruto.” She teased. Naruto copied her eye roll, still smirking.
“Whatever. Let’s just go before Kakashi Sensei starts getting suspicious.” He began to move noiselessly in Kakashi’s direction, Sakura close behind him. They both focused on their movements, making sure to draw no attention to themselves while also making their way through the trees as quickly as possible. Before they knew it, they were crouched behind a bush about thirty feet away from Kakashi.
Kakashi couldn’t sense their presence yet, but his guard was very much up, anticipating a sneak attack from a direction that wouldn’t be expected. He would never admit it to his two students, but he started to feel a bit nervous. He couldn’t place exactly why. All he knew is that he should be expecting the unexpected. But then he wondered, what could be so unexpected that it warranted him feeling this nervous? When he saw his two students appear from behind a bush, that was when the nerves really started to kick in. They couldn’t possibly think a head-on attack would work, could they?
“Huh… attacking me head-on like this. Are you sure that’s the best course of action?” Kakashi questioned his students, keeping his voice even as he readied his defensive stance. The two stood before him, and Kakashi couldn’t miss the eagerness in their stances. What on Earth did they have planned?
“Now, Naruto!” Sakura’s sudden exclamation prompted the two of them to jump into the air, diving slowly towards Kakashi. He couldn’t help but gain a confused look. All three of them knew that Kakashi could destroy them easily in a frontal attack like this. He stood, still ready to attack at any moment, but he watched them closely, analyzing every movement down to the tiniest muscle twitch.
“Alright, Kakashi Sensei…” Naruto started to speak as they continued to descend. Kakashi cocked his head to the side slightly, surprised that he’d use a moment like this for conversational language. “At the end of ‘Make-Out Tactics’…”
Oh. Oh.
Those words sent a chill down Kakashi’s spine. There was no way Naruto was resorting to such a dirty trick. Spoiling the ending of the book he had just received that day? What kind of a monster did he train?! Kakashi covered his ears out of instinct, preventing himself from hearing any more of Naruto’s words. He kept his eyes locked on their movements, but then he realized…
“As it happens, the main character…” No! He could still read Naruto’s lips because of his Sharingan! His eyes clamped shut, determined not to find out any spoilers that Naruto might have known. He was also Jiraiya’s student, and he’s the author of these books, after all. It was more likely than not that Naruto knew exactly how this book went, and Kakashi would rather lose this fight than have his favorite series spoiled for him.
Kakashi felt a sudden jab at his right side, close to his hip. His eyes shot open with a gasp, as his hands flew down to protect himself from… that. Much to his dismay, the jabs kept coming one after another. He felt his face begin to flush in embarrassment as he choked back the laughter that was about to come out of his mouth. There was no way he was letting his students learn both of his weaknesses in the same day.
“Damn it, where the hell are they?!” A familiar voice mumbled to no one in particular. Kakashi looked down to see that the culprit of the pokes was none other than Naruto. He was obviously searching for something… wait. “Where are they? Where are the bells?!” Naruto’s hands kept searching as Kakashi felt his defenses begin to crumble. He inhaled deeply and held his breath. He could not, would not let this happen. Not in front of the Fifth Hokage herself.
When Naruto’s hands reached the bottom of his ribs, Kakashi felt himself involuntarily move away from the poking. This made Naruto stop what he was doing and stare curiously at his teacher. Kakashi stared back, his eyes a little bit wider than normal. His heart rate began to increase when he saw a devious glint in Naruto’s eyes. Naruto reached out to land another poke into Kakashi’s ribs, eliciting a quiet yelp from the older.
“Say, Kakashi Sensei…” Naruto’s voice was lower than before, almost a growl. Kakashi swallowed, his face growing more flushed the closer Naruto gets to him. “You wouldn’t happen to be ticklish, would you?”
Kakashi felt his breath catch in his throat hearing those words. “Now, Naruto…” His voice had a slight tremble to it, but he tried to keep his tone calm and level. “Is this really necessary? You would have defeated me just now. We don’t need to resort to such tactics.”
Naruto chuckled, stepping even closer to Kakashi with his hands reaching out in front of him. “If you’re hiding the bells from us, then I have no other choice.” He leapt at Kakashi suddenly, attaching his fingers to his sides and digging in mercilessly. Kakashi gasped, putting his hands over Naruto’s in an attempt to push them away. He gritted his teeth to prevent any laughter from slipping out of his mouth. He was determined to keep up his stoic facade for as long as possible.
“N-Naruto, this isn’t necessary. C-come on, stop this.” Kakashi’s voice came out a bit more strained than normal as he held back his laugh. As ticklish as he was, Kakashi was able to handle this spot pretty well. As long as Naruto didn’t get any other ideas, that is. Not satisfied with the reaction he was getting, Naruto furrowed his brow in deep thought.
“I think it’s very necessary, Kakashi Sensei! If you’re unfairly hiding the bells from us, I have to find them by any means.” Naruto moved his hands up to Kakashi’s ribs, scratching each finger between each of the bones. Kakashi let out a strong exhale, still holding his laughter in, but just barely. His hands still stayed on top of Naruto’s, trying to detach his fingers from his ribs. The feeling of all ten of Naruto’s fingers wiggling in between his ribs was almost too much to handle. Naruto grinned mischievously, noticing Kakashi’s face becoming more red as the tickling continued.
“You’re really not letting up? Man, I guess I have to do it, then…” Those words from Naruto made Kakashi’s stomach do a backflip. He started to squirm underneath the tickly touch, wondering what on Earth he could have possibly thought of to escalate the situation.
“Well, as I was saying before, the main character in ‘Make-Out Tactics’…”
Kakashi gasped, covering his ears and clamping his eyes shut once more. Damn, Naruto was much better at finding his weaknesses than he’d like to admit. “N-no! I’m not listening!” Kakashi exclaimed in a panic. What he failed to consider, however, was just how vulnerable he had made himself in this one motion. Naruto chuckled, taking the chance that was given to him. He shot his now free hands up into Kakashi’s underarms.
Kakashi’s arms came crashing down as his entire body curled in on itself. The laughter that he was fighting back finally bubbled to the surface in the form of soft, hysterical giggles. His face flushed even deeper than before, feeling embarrassed about reacting in such a way, especially in front of the people that were around. As Naruto’s fingers scratched in the sensitive spot, Kakashi couldn’t help himself but squirm even more than before.
Naruto was shocked. He had never heard Kakashi laugh like this. He didn’t even know if he’d heard Kakashi laugh at all before, so to see him reduced to a giggling mess was a hilarious sight. “Wow, Kakashi Sensei! You’re way more ticklish than I would have thought!” He continued to scratch his nails in Kakashi’s underarms, causing his teacher’s laughter to slowly get louder.
“N-Narutohoho, plehehease! This ihis soho childihihihish!” Kakashi cackled, trying half heartedly to bat Naruto’s arms away from him. Could he have gotten the kid off of him easily with one swift motion? Absolutely, but to be honest, he couldn’t remember the last time he had allowed his guard to drop this much. It had to have been years since he felt himself laugh even a little bit. As embarrassing as it all was, a bigger part of it felt refreshing.
“Oh, you think this is childish? I’ll show you childish!” Naruto taunted, throwing pokes all around Kakashi’s torso, making his laughter spike up an octave. “Childish is hiding the bells from me when I beat you, fair and square!”
Kakashi’s eyes were still squeezed shut due to his loud laughter. All of a sudden, the tickling sensations increased rapidly. He felt so many different spots being targeted all at once. While the scratching in his underarms continued, he additionally felt fingers wiggling against his stomach and his ribs. Then, there was a pair of hands scratching behind his knees, forcing a surprised squeak out of Kakashi’s mouth. His legs began to shake due to the new spot being targeted. How was this even possible? He forced open his eyes and finally realized: he was being attacked by Naruto and three of his Shadow Clones.
Once he found out what had happened, Kakashi’s body surrendered to the sensations. He let unfiltered laughter flood out of his mouth as his legs finally gave out, making him end up on the ground. All four Narutos followed him down, all of their hands staying attached to the spots they were targeting. Kakashi was almost in tears laughing, completely unable to get away from the eight hands that were attacking him. “Nahahaharutoho! Plehehease, stohohohop!”
“I’ll stop as soon as you tell me where the damn bells are!” The real Naruto yelled, his three Shadow Clones laughing along.
Jingle.
Hearing that soft, familiar sound ring through the chaos made both Naruto and Kakashi freeze. All of their remaining chakra was focused in their ears, listening intently for the sound of the bells.
Jingle.
Their heads whipped around to see Sakura standing a few feet away from them, holding both of the bells, one in each hand. Kakashi felt his face pale at the sight as Naruto bolted over to grab one of the bells out of her hand with a satisfied chuckle.
“Y-you had them the whole time, Sakura?” Kakashi stammered, slowly gathering himself and getting to his feet. Sakura had a small smile on her face as she blushed a bit.
“Yeah… I’m sorry, Kakashi Sensei! I just thought… you looked like you were having fun, so I didn’t want to make you guys stop so soon.” Sakura explained sheepishly. Kakashi couldn’t help but smile at her statement, his face remaining a deep shade of pink.
“Well… you aren’t necessarily wrong.” Kakashi admitted, making both of his students stare at him in shock. He shrugged as he continued his thought. “I mean, I can’t remember the last time my body was able to relax like that, and I don’t even think either of you had ever heard me laugh before.” Naruto and Sakura looked at each other, knowing that to be true. Kakashi smiled at them before looking around the area. “Now, I have one thing to ask, and this goes for everyone here, so listen up.” As Kakashi spoke, Tsunade and Jiraiya poked their heads out of the trees, their grinning faces focused on him intently.
“What is it, Kakashi Sensei?” Naruto asked, his eyes shining with glee. Kakashi sighed, directing this statement mostly at the two Sannin.
“Please, do not tell Gai about this. He will never let me live a peaceful life with this information.” Jiraiya snickered as he and Tsunade shared a mischievous glance.
“No promises.” Tsunade responded with a scheming smile. Kakashi sighed even deeper this time, holding his face in his hands.
“Don’t worry, Kakashi Sensei! We’ll protect your honor!” Naruto exclaimed, positioning himself in front of Kakashi, using a defensive stance.
Sakura giggled and mirrored Naruto’s actions. “Yeah! We’ll protect you no matter what!”
Kakashi smiled, grateful for the incredible Shinobi his students had become. “Thank you. Now, what do you say I treat you two to some ramen as a congratulations?” His students let out a yell of excitement, racing each other back to the village. Kakashi followed close behind them while Tsunade and Jiraiya lingered for just a moment longer.
“You’re going to tell him, aren’t you?” Jiraiya asked the Hokage.
Tsunade chuckled. “Oh, I absolutely am.”

Someone said Hokage Tora and now I'm thinking about what would need to happen to make that a reality.
Ok so we're gonna shuffle the Hokage's and their timelines around.
(Also note: at this point, Tora very sympathetic to the Uchiha bc of his relationships w Shisui Itachi and Sasuke)
So Sarutobi dies and people are going "oh noooo someone go and get Tsunade back"
And Tora gets PISSED.
They want another Senju to have the hat?? Are you fucking kidding him??? 2 in a row was bad enough but 3 sets a standard. Choose literally anyone else! Anyone!! Fucking Kakashi would make a better Hokage!!!
And then he stops.
Hmmm. Kakashi as Hokage.
That... wouldn't be too bad, actually?
Long story short: Tora starts to campaign for Kakashi as Hokage.
Kakashi does not appreciate this. Stop immediatley.
Tora is on the civilian council at this point (at the terrifyingly young age of like 17) and lowkey has them under his thumb. So he's able to get them all aboard, meaning Kakashi is officially civilian approved.
The Uchiha are into it to, with him lowkey being the closest they've been able to get to the seat since fucking Madara. He has one of their eyes, he's lead/taught both of the clan head kids, and hes visibly, publicly close to multiple Uchiha/Uchiha sympathizers (Itachi, Shisui, Tora)
He's the yodaime's student which gives him major points in the politics department, + he actually knows what it is like to be in the life of a Hokage, he has seen and been involved in that life firsthand
Hes also on good, personal terms with a few clan heads and solidly neutral terms w the other clans
His clan is innofensivley small (read: fucking wiped out) so there's no concern with biases of a guy coming from a specific clan, working w a bias for that clan
Perfect candidate!!
(Something something Kakashi quietly touching his eyelid and mumbling to Obito that he guesses he'll be able to show him even more of his dream than even he'd expected)
Danzo tries to intimidate him into not accepting it and while Kakashi does agree that he would be one of the worst options, the conversation kinda... leaves him a little less sure he'd really be the worst option.
Anyways, Kakashi as the godaime hokage!!
He hates it.
Tora Shisui and Itchi have to hunt him down the day of his ascension and fuckin wrestle him on stage (he's gonna go home and scream into his pillow later)
How would Naruto canon change with Kakashi as the Hokage so early?? Until this point, the au has mostly been sticking to the script (minus the Uchiha massacre) but this is a HUGE status quo change for a character decently central in the cast list, and it's a change that'd impact just about everything going forward! Don't ask me how exactly because I know very very little about the actual specifics and events of canon but holy shit it'd sure change the course of history, huh? If you wanna get really down to the nitty gritty technicalities, we could take serious liberties and kill off and or save several characters with the simple explanation of "different Hokage, different people assigned to different missions"
Anyways:
Team Ro gets to be his personal guards,, they need a replacement for the team since Kakashi left, maybe we can throw in someone else to join them and add some more chemistry in there
I don't think it'd be anyone on team 7 (I don't live in a world where I can see Kakashi tossing specifically THEM in ANBU that young, no matter how more powerful or better taught than cannon, sorry) also conflicting interests w THREE uchiha on a team or the Haruno siblings. Also, Naruto is Naruto, so. *political noises*
Actually the slot is a very valuable one since they're basically Kakashi's special little guys (anbu eddition) so it's really hard to think of a character that'd even conceivably be put on it. (Part of me wants to add Neji for literally no reason other than I suddenly want him in the AU but that'd bring a whole mountain of implications with him if Kakashi chose HIM specifically to join his personal guard + he's suddenly in ANBU, what??)
Wait would Kakashi even choose the replacement personally.
Wait wait ok. Record scratch. Rewind. Let's try this again.
So. With Kakashi's promotion, Tora gets to he team leader. One of the first things he's told is to find a new replacement for the team
"Shouldn't you do that yourself?" Says Tora
"You've got me to take the hat I refuse to move so much as a single fucking finger more at your request." Says Kakashi, who then delights in bodily removing Tora from the room via the window.
I don't know Neji's actual age but for the sake of this fic he's suddenly Tora's age or only a year younger (Tora is like 17 at this point)
Him and Neji do not get along!! At all!!!! Actually it was kind of hate on sight.
Uhh insert montage where they become grudgingly almost friends but still mostly frenemies
Neji is very talented and Tora is frustrated by how he seems to be being "held back" in some way. Like, he doesn't like the guy! But damn if he doesn't know how it feels to have the system itself fighting you, no matter how good you prove you are and how hard you work.
Anyways, Tora finding out Neji was skipped over and denied for different promotions or smthn bc hyuuga second class or whatever.
And him going "hmmmmmmmmm...."
He hands Kakashi a form with Neji's name on it and Kakashi signs without even looking.
When he scowls and asks if he's even going to look, Kakashi just gives him a dry look.
"Like I dont know whoever you've picked won't be for whatever plot you're cooking up next. Just don't set anything on fire where I can see it and I don't care."
A very, very confused Neji is suddenly told he's not only going to join ANBU but also the Hokage's private guard.
Hey Tora !! What the fuck !!!
They have one of those "You don't even like me??" "I don't have to like you to want to see how far you can go." moments
Queue Neji angrily revealing that it doesn't matter "how far he can go" or how many opportunities are afforded to him bc his limits are fuckin branded on him, and shows Tora his seal mark
Hey Neji !! What the fuck !!!
Hyuuga reformation arc,,,
Ok so not sympathetic Hiashi Hyuuga but like,, rational (deeply fucking flawed) person Hiashi who is able to leverage the "Neji has been ordered to work directly the Hokage" @ the Hyuuga clan elders to at least slightly loosen the seal on him.
TONNS of political drama in the Hyuuga house w Neji being chosen for such a huge position, but w the complications of "they can't fucking voice it outloud" bc ANBU identities are supposed to be super top secret, so it's kept to the really high ranks only
(There's an AU of an AU out there where instead of stopping the Uchiha coup, Tora went "ok but are they wrong tho", decided to help instead, and got the Hyuuga lower cast to join them)
(Look he wants to reform the government, right? Ok so why SHOULDNT he support an attempt to rip it up by the roots?? The Uchiha want equality but Tora wants reformation. They do not know what they just let into their homes.)
What the fuck did I come here to talk about again?
Right, sorry, Hokage Tora
Uhhhh pivoting again here we go ->
So Kakashi is Hokage!!! And he !! Wants !! Out !!!
Tora is a very very clear contender for "the next Hokage", even early on in Kakashi's career. He's basically the guy who MADE Kakashi Hokage (both arranging it and forcing him to accept) and most important people know it.
I'm ngl I kind of don't know how exactly we'd get to hokage Tora.
Maybe Kakashi is temporarily taken out of commission and he's just the obvious replacement. Maybe we do a proper Hokage switch and promote him when Kakashi got the job in the original. Dunno! But Tora for Rokudaime all the way !!
If not Tora I think Rokudaime Neji could be suitably dramatic and fun. Also has similar themes of "rising from the lower ranks against the odds" and just in general tons of interesting implications both politically and like,, character interaction wise.
Everyone expects Tora for the next hokage but Tora decides he likes being the powerful guy in the shadows to a Hokage who knows both how to listen to him and how to lead with a strength and surety he can trust. And decides Neji is apparently that guy who has the leadership and wisdom he can trust.
Callback to the earlier moment where Neiji, voice cracking, goes "you don't even like me."
And Tora gives him a smirk and goes "I don't have to like you to want to see see how far you can go."
Mmmm actually I think I like that ending best, it has the most weight to me. Like, yeah Tora as Rokudaime is cool and a kind of ironic "full circle" moment, but Neji as Rokudaime has that gut punch energy that will leave your skin buzzing and your eyes tearing up with written right
Have to get going but I might try to draw that scene tommorow if I find the energy in me after work (doubtful tbh)
I love a good call back through dialogue in different character defining moments that leave you pointing at the screen shrieking "HE SAID THE THING!!"

♥*♡ SUNLIT DAYS ∞:。 itachi uchiha *. * ·
tw: heavy school-related trauma, emotional abuse/neglect, mentions of chronic illness
Itachi is twelve years old. It's midnight and he scrambles to finish handwriting his essay for history class. He reads it over one last time before tucking it away in his backpack to bring to school tomorrow. He sleeps peacefully knowing it's been taken care of.
_
"Itachi! Get in here!"
Itachi's heart skips a beat and he nearly stumbles as he walks into the kitchen after coming home from school.
"Yes, father?" he whispers, head low and trying to avoid eye contact.
"What's this about you not turning in an essay!?"
"I turned it in, father."
"Was it late?"
"I had written it and forgot to turn it in." That was the same lie he told the teacher when he handed it to her.
Fugaku sighs loudly. "Don't forget again." is all he says before leaving the kitchen.
"Yes, sir." Itachi mumbles, more to himself than anyone else.
_
Itachi is fifteen years old and is sitting at his desk expectantly, attempting to calm his breathing and focus on the assignments in front of him.
"Itachi!" Mikoto barged into her son's room. "Explain to me why I got an email from your teacher saying you have 40 missing assignments!?"
Itachi turns to face his mother in his seat and remains silent.
"How the hell did this happen, huh!?"
Itachi still says nothing.
Mikoto breathes heavily and runs a hand through her hair. "You are going to sit there and do every single one of them. This door is going to stay open, and you are not going to sleep until it's done!"
"Yes, ma'am . . ." Itachi mutters, angry but obedient.
_
Itachi is sixteen years old and he is sitting in his father's office, looking back and forth between the window and his handwritten notes for history. He's not allowed to work anywhere else for the time being. He's got the same song on repeat in his headphones but presses pause when he sees Sasuke walk by.
"Nii-san, what are you up to?"
Itachi looks up and pulls down his headphones. "Working, Sasuke."
"Do you wanna go get something to eat?" Sasuke asks excitedly.
"I don't have time, Sasuke."
"You used to have time . . . hngh." Sasuke leaves the office, feeling dejected.
_
Itachi is seventeen years old and he's got graph papers sprawled out on his bedroom floor as he attempts to design a house as fast as he can.
"Itachi."
"What, Shisui? I'm busy."
Shisui leans in the doorway trying to come off as approachable as possible. "I hear you've been having a hard time in school."
" . . . You're a little too late, Shisui." Itachi remarks, still staring at his paper.
"Itachi, just tell me what happened," Shisui pleads breathily.
"You know what happened, I don't do my homework."
"I mean, what did they say to you?"
"It doesn't matt-"
"It matters to me!"
Itachi sighs and releases the papers in his hand. His lip starts to quiver and his brow furrows as he stays silent.
Shisui swiftly joins him on the floor, embracing him in a hug. "Let me help you, okay?"
A single tear falls while Itachi relaxes into Shisui's body.
_
Itachi is nineteen years old and he's got himself mostly under control while he's in college.
He tries to avoid speaking with his parents and being home as much as possible, electing to spend time with Shisui and Obito instead. He's got more free time nowadays.
"How's it going, 'Tachi?" Obito nagged. "School treating you good?"
Ever since he got a new job, he's been acting like a third parent, not to Itachi's disliking.
"Yeah, school's fine," Itachi responded, gazing up at the sunlit clouds hovering above where they were waiting for their food to arrive.
"You feeling okay?"
"I haven't been feeling too well, actually," Itachi said, squinting at Obito. "I've been having some weird pains all over my body and I can't sleep. I feel tired and I can't focus during the day, too."
"You should go to the doctor. Maybe it's just a vitamin deficiency or something," Obito reassured him.
"Maybe, but I don't think I would have a deficiency."
"I know we have some relatives that have symptoms like those. Hope you're not getting sick."
"Yeah, me too."

sasunaru university modern au | naruto pov tw: attempted assault, implied drugging
Tumblr media
Sasuke swears drinking has never felt like this.
The first time he had a drink was a week after his 18th birthday. Itachi made sure of it, always commenting about how alcohol stunts growth and the legal age exists for a reason. So it was Itachi, too, who brought him to a private wine tasting. The car brought them weaving past grapevines to a stunning country house, with houses laid brick by brick and huge wood barrels that lined the walls of the interior.
Itachi was always more of a parent than his own father, in this way. He let Sasuke learn every kind of wine, how many glasses it took and how it felt after each one, made him note at what point he started to feel good and bad. He let him have way too many, and then some, so that he would know. And then he had him crash in one of the country houses he booked for their trip.
It’s only because of that, that Sasuke knows, it’s not supposed to feel like this. That two beers shouldn’t have him tripping over himself, like his own brain is pounding against his head. He can barely hear what the girls are saying to him, crowding around him at the bar. One of them is undressing him, he thinks, only processing it because the way her smooth, cold hands feel against his clammy skin.
He’s shoving them out of the way, stumbling through the corridor that he’s praying leads to a bathroom. He can faintly hear people laughing, he feels like it’s at him, he’s so, so grateful when the first door he grabs opens and locks it so fast behind him before his vision starts to swim again.
There’s a single minute of sparkling clarity as starts to register the sound around him again, he blinks his eyes back open to find sun-bathed hair and ocean-blue eyes.
“Are you okay?” The man asks, and he sounds genuine, not like he’s about to follow it up with something else. But Sasuke knows better than to believe something like that at face value. Everyone around him is a startling good actor, after all.
“What, you want a piece too?” Because it’s the only thing anyone has ever wanted from him. If they wanted connections, money, they’d call his brother.
“Huh?” The man stares back at him, dumbfounded. Sasuke laughs, mostly to himself, because some playing dumb trick isn’t going to work on him.
“I can practically feel your eyes on me.” Sasuke tests it, then, since this man won’t admit it. He approaches him until the proximity is damning, one hand around his waist. The man responds instinctively, his hand pressed against Sasuke’s chest.
And then it shocks Sasuke entirely, like a bucket of cold water over his head, that he wants this. He lets his eyes flit down to his lips, and he doesn’t know who leans in first-
But it’s soft, and it’s easy, and in this moment it feels so endearingly simple. He is kissing a man in a bathroom and he wants to, he can feel the man’s fingertips against his skin and it doesn’t make his skin crawl, instead he’s bringing him in closer, like if he presses them together close enough he’ll finally understand something, some secret that everyone else has always known.
There’s a moment afterwards where they’re making eye contact and Sasuke wants to laugh with pure joy, maybe even ask for his number, but then bile curls up in his throat and it’s all he can do to chuck the guy aside before he hurls into the bowl.
It’s staring at the mess he created that he realizes what he’s just done.
“You need to leave.” He tells him, because one of them needs to leave first. If they leave together, there are at least 3 women at the bar who will probably take a picture, and as much as Sasuke does not want to give his father another reason to disown him, he also doesn’t want his father to ruin the life of some stranger just because he didn’t knock on a bathroom door. And if he doesn’t leave soon, the girls will come to find him, and then they’ll both be fucked.
“Leave,” he wants to yell it, because it’s Sasuke’s own fault and he needs to get them out of this, and when the man finally does, Sasuke locks the door and collapses against it again.
He keys in Shisui’s number in his phone. It’s a futile attempt at keeping aniki from knowing, Shisui will most definitely tell him before he comes to get him, but at least Sasuke won’t have to hear his brother’s panicked voice.

⭐️ CHAPTER 43 OMAKE ⭐️
Naruto yelped as something hit his forehead.
“Agh! What the hell!” He cursed, drawing the attention of his classmates… and of Iruka-sensei. Panicking at the angry expression his teacher wore, Naruto braced himself.
Iruka pointed right at him, a vein popping out of his temple. “Narutooo-oooo!” He growled, “Language! Disrupt the class one more time and we won’t play hide and ninja tomorrow during recess!”
His classmates groaned, shooting him dirty looks.
Sticking his tongue out at all of them, Naruto huffed and sat back in his seat. This sucked. It wasn’t fair that Sasuke got to leave early! And Kiya had even picked him up! Naruto wanted to be picked up, too. Maybe one day soon, he thought to himself. Looking around and checking if anyone was looking, Naruto began discreetly un-balling the paper that was launched at his forehead.
Eh?
What did that say? Naruto squinted as he attempted to decipher what surely must have been a ninja code—it had to be.
Oh-nee mo-ray week!
He’d done it! He deciphered the code!
…Okay, now what did it mean? Squinting harder and straining his brain as he concentrated, Naruto willed his brain to make sense of it all. He could feel his face turning red with the force he was using.
Yeah. He had no idea. Giving up, Naruto tapped the shoulder of the boy sitting next to him. “Pssst! Hey! Wake up, Shikamaru!” Naruto whispered loudly. The boy groaned, cracking open one bleary eye to stare accusingly at him.
“What is it, Naruto?” He sighed, resting his head on his arm.
Sliding the wrinkly paper over to Shikamaru, Naruto asked, “What does this mean? Can you read it?”
The boy scoffed. “Of course I can read it. It says one more week. No idea what that means, though, and I don’t care. Now go away.”
Huh?! One more week? What did that mean?? One more week of what? School? No, that didn’t make sense. Maybe he’d graduate from the Academy in a week! Or… maybe he only had one more week to live! What if it was a threat?! There was a scary picture of a demon drawn on the bottom of the paper, complete with two pointy horns sticking out of its head. Going pale as a sheet and gulping, Naruto shivered.
Just as he began to sniffle and cry (because he only had one more week to live! He was too young to die!), Naruto’s attention was grabbed by two familiar dark blue eyes peeking at him from a crack in the classroom door. It was Kiya! He caught her eye, watching as she waved to him one more time before disappearing from sight.
Wait—was this note from her?! Did… did this mean that in one week, he could see Kiya again? A wide smile spread across Naruto’s face, a warm feeling tickling the inside of his chest. Maybe next time, Kiya would come and pick him up from school, too.
He couldn’t wait.

No More Goodbyes

No More Goodbyes
RiverOfTheSand
Summary:
She watched them saying goodbye for the umpteenth time, wondering how dense Gaara had to be to not notice Sakura's feelings for him. The way Tsunade saw it, she had two choices: get drunk on sakē for the rest of the day, or force Sakura into confessing her undying love to the Kazekage... decisions, decisions. *post-war*
Notes:
Cross-posted from fanfiction.net. This one-shot has been an effort and a half. It has everything I love about GaaSaku; heart, soul, reasonable doubt, elucidation and that burning need that can drive a person crazy... well, me at least. ;) Rated T. Hope you all enjoy. :)
A light breeze grazed the top slip of paper on the small pile of documents in front of her, and she frowned at it. Like an invisible hand was lifting it, the movement reminded her of something she'd seen before. Her office was getting draughty again.
"Naruto," she murmured. "Go away."
The future Rokudaime scratched his head. "What are you going on about baa-chan? I'm supposed to be–"
"It's too early for me to care about that."
"Granny, aren't you forgetting something?"
Tsunade looked up at Naruto. He was staring at her intently, the slight tilt of his head indicating his confusion and she wondered what the hell he was talking about.
"Gaara's leaving again soon," the knucklehead stated matter-of-factly. "Aren't you going to see him off, as the Hokage?"
She smiled. "No Naruto, I passed that on six months ago."
"Huh?"
"Didn't you notice?"
"Uh... no."
Tsunade sighed. "I decided to leave that up to Sakura."
"Huh?" Naruto looked pained. "Are you sure that was wise granny? You know how she feels about him."
"Yes Naruto, it's caught my attention. But Sakura isn't going to be able to move past this if she doesn't do or say anything about it. It's been six months since the end of the Fourth Great Shinobi War, and neither of them have said anything about it. I'm not sure what's going through Gaara's head, but knowing Sakura, she won't be able to keep her feelings to herself for much longer."
"I don't know baa-chan; she went through a lot to to get over Sasuke. I'm not sure she has it in her to confess her feelings like that to anyone ever again."
He wanted to believe she would, but the broken young woman who was his best friend had clammed up emotionally, and Naruto was scared for her. He told her he understood, that he would support her no matter what she did, but he was getting tired of watching her sulk over Gaara. He wasn't entirely sure what the former jinchuriki would do if Sakura confessed her undying love for him, but he knew that guy at least cared for her–she was his best friend after all. Even if he didn't like her the way she wanted him to, she needed to get this off her chest.
"We'll see Naruto, now get out of here–I still have paperwork to finalise."
"Yeah, yeah: I'll be back later, whether you like it or not."
The Hokage just scoffed, and swivelled in her chair to look out the window as Naruto left.
She stared out over Konoha, her eyes resting on the figure of her fellow Kage as he very slowly made his way toward the main gates–two ANBU trailing behind him. Sometimes, Temari or Kankuro would accompany him on one of his trips, but even they got tired of the back and forth. Tsunade often wondered about Gaara's excuses for coming here, and hoped he really did like Sakura–as much as she would miss her kouhai, she wanted her to be happy more than anything else in the world. She deserved someone who loved her as much as she loved him, no matter what village he came from.
She continued to watch Gaara, her fingers itching to just guzzle the unopened sakē hidden under the top drawer of her desk in one go. If he wasn't a Kage, she'd kick his arse for causing her adopted daughter such grief. So now she had a decision to make, and the sweet scent of the untouched elixir mere inches from her hand was telling her to make it hurt.
– No More Goodbyes –
"Step forward prisoner 727853-824442."
Sakura Haruno sighed inwardly. 'Not him again.'
Kotetsu Hagane glanced at Sakura before giving his full attention to process the prisoner. The dishevelled man wouldn't look at her, as usual, only responding to his guard enough to avoid receiving a jolt from a Raiton jutsu–all at the guard's whim. Sakura didn't want to be here anymore than this guy wanted her to; he always acted like she came here just to lord it over him that he'd lost and they'd kicked his arse in the end. But really, she'd let go of the notion that she had anything to gloat about.
It was overdue for him to do the same.
But he never would, she knew he never would.
Sakura sighed inwardly, preferring not to show him how much he still affected her. That chapter of her life was over now.
"You're hurt."
Sakura looked up, realising she'd been staring absentmindedly at the clipboard in her hands–it held the medical information for the man in front of her. She was at the prison only as a precaution, since there had been a few viral outbreaks recently–nothing catastrophic, but when acting in conjunction with prisoners who spent most of the day labouring in the hot sun and potentially cutting themselves with sharp instruments, it increased the risk of infections. And from the look of most of them, they needed all the hygiene they could get their grubby hands on.
The owner of the voice interrupting her thoughts was Izumo Kamizuki–the other guard standing to Sakura's left. His dark eyes were examining the prisoner closely, and narrowed at the sight of a gash on his arm. Said prisoner did nothing other than clench his fist imperceptibly before glancing toward the door that would elicit his freedom from his guards and medic. He didn't want their help, which wasn't surprising, but they were responsible for him all the same.
Reluctantly, Sakura tucked the chart under her arm and stepped toward the prisoner. He made no move to pull away from her and she healed his wound without physically touching him, but as usual, she was trembling inside... even after everything, he still scared her. She probably should've done that without moving from her spot–to save herself some heart palpitations–but that idea always came to her too late, also accompanied by an image of Kabuto doing something similar a long time ago, when Naruto's Kyuubi chakra had hurt her.
She hated herself for how much she still dwelled on those days.
Without a word, she returned to her position and averted her eyes from the prisoner once again... gazing unseeingly at the chart instead.
Kotetsu gave the prisoner another look over–this one a little more thorough, to make sure there were no more wounds. The man did have a habit of pretending he was alright, and had spent time isolated from the other prisoners for his stupidity–not that that seemed to have taught him anything–to ensure his infections weren't contagious.
Idiot.
Sakura watched him as he reacted to the invasion of his personal space, as stiff as ever, lamenting on how things had turned out, as she always did. If she had her way, she'd wipe her name from the list of "volunteers" and never have to come to the Konoha prison ever again. Unfortunately, Lady Tsunade had decided that all medics were obligated to sign up for this complete and utter waste of time. If these weren't war prisoners, and each and every one of them guilty of heinous crimes, it could be mistaken for charity. Sakura did not want to waste time on these people, when she could be in the hospital, helping sickly children or whatnot.
'Who am I kidding?' She thought grumpily. 'There aren't enough patients to go around over there.'
Ironically, the number of healers outweighed the need for them these days. If it wasn't for Tsunade's new missive, Sakura might very well not be able to pay her rent this week.
"Lady Sakura."
The voice to her right startled her–an ANBU carrying a message scroll... unusual here at the prison. Surely whatever it was could wait.
"Thank-you," she said softly, and the man disappeared in a cloud of smoke. She thought she recognised the chakra, but gave it no mind. Sakura opened the scroll as her companions now went through the items the angsty prisoner had brought with him–it was a weekly, routine thing, to make sure there was nothing missing. It had something to do with security, but she didn't care.
Sakura's eyes widened as she read the scroll, her stomach churning suddenly, and painfully.
'No...'
But really, she shouldn't be surprised. Again and again, she took this news to heart; Sakura ignored the suddenly curious stare of the prisoner as she struggled not to break down. The message scroll went unread by the rest of the room, so she could only imagine they worried what it said to make her pale on command. She hated herself for this, and the fact that this news hit her so hard every time. She cleared her throat, rolled the scroll back up and looked up at the curious guards, forcing a smile past her lips.
"Later," she said, grateful that her voice was firm and detached.
She didn't wait for a response, instead ambling on her way out of the prison. This wasn't the place she'd rather be of course, and since life in Konoha was so ridiculously peaceful now, even normal missions were spread a bit more thinly. She supposed she should be grateful–the fifth Hokage and her imminent successor were cleaning up the mess that was the Fourth Shinobi War so efficiently that mission casualties were non-existent right now–it was just a strange feeling, not to be needed.
Naruto had however, told her that peace was merely a step between the problems, and they must be ever vigilant to prevent the next great war, no matter how easy things seemed to be right now. He was starting to sound like Lee.
"Shit." Sakura groaned, hastening her pace now, as she realised she'd been lost in delirium for a few minutes, and according to the message scroll, it was happening now. "I'm going to be late."
She had one thing to look forward to these days, above all others–the monthly visits from the Kazekage. Gaara came to Konoha under the guise of friendship with Naruto (or whatever political things they were preparing for, since it wouldn't be long now, before the blonde took the title of the Rokudaime Hokage), and Sakura took advantage of each and every single one. She loved him, she knew it, and even Naruto had seen it as her feelings blossomed during the war. Sakura felt so desperately drawn to Gaara that she wasn't surprised when he turned out to be just like Sasuke–he didn't like her that way anymore than the Uchiha did.
She was sure Gaara only saw her as a friend.
So Sakura spent the war hiding her feelings. The only people who knew were Naruto, her shishou and Ino. But once the fighting was over, she could've killed herself with the fear and despair when he went back to his village as though there was nothing between them. She remembered the day that had made her realise that he had no interest in her as anything other than an acquaintance because she happened to be Naruto's best friend.
...Flashback...
"You going to find a nice guy and settle down Sakura?"
The older sister of the Kazekage had called her over to the apartment she was sharing with her brothers, and Sakura was beginning to suspect it was because she was  dying  to tell someone that Shikamaru had finally made their relationship official–they just needed to go public.
"Yeah," the pinkette said wistfully, forcing herself not to look at Gaara as he and Kankuro sat three feet away, playing shōgi. Kankuro had challenged Shikamaru to that game numerous times over the course of the war, determined to beat him (and failing each and every time), and was now using Gaara as a guinea pig to see where he was going wrong. Unfortunately, for the puppet master, he'd chosen an opponent who was more than capable of kicking his arse.
Meanwhile, Temari was nervously wiping her iron fan, even though it clearly didn't need cleaning. Sakura sipped her tea thoughtfully, knowing the blonde wanted a much more detailed answer from her before she spilled her own beans on the subject.
She swallowed heavily. "I don't know who it'll be with but... I will, I suppose."
"You suppose?"
"It's the accepted norm," Kankuro said wisely, his eyes glued to the shōgi board. "Everyone expects that getting married and raising some hell raisers is what everyone should be doing."
"That's for civilians," Gaara countered, also keeping his eyes on the game. "Shinobi are different."
"How so, little bro?"
"Despite the fact that we live longer naturally, through our consistent use of chakra, we actually die sooner for the most part, due to missions, wars, or whatever. Such things are deterrents to people who do not wish to burden a spouse or marital partner with the knowledge that the next mission might be their last."
"And the clans," Kankuro said. "What about them?"
Gaara reached out almost tentatively, pushing one of his pieces along the board, earning a grunt from his older brother. "Their leaders are obligated to keep their kekkei genkai, or the jutsu their clan is known for, alive through arranged marriages, and in the case of the bloodline limits, in the family. The clan members have little to no choice but to choose a suitable mate to keep the traditions going–it has nothing to do with societal views or life expectancy."
"Well I'm getting married," Kankuro said cheerfully, his eyes lifting from the shōgi board. "There are lots of girls out there, just ripe for the picking."
"I definitely won't be," Gaara murmured softly.
Hands clasping her tea cup tightly, Sakura stiffened unperceptively. She knew that Suna didn't have the marriage policy for their Kazekage in place anymore–really, it wasn't like they were a monarch, and therefore producing offspring was his civic duty–but it was surprising to hear Gaara say he had no plans to settle down. Her heart plummeted at these words, realising once and for all that she had no chance with him, but at the same time, the fact that he had no-one else in mind was a small comfort... ridiculously so.
Still, Sakura fought back the disappointment in her voice as she replied to his comment. "You don't know you never will."
"Waste of time," Gaara grunted softly, now ignoring her. Kankuro gave his brother a Cheshire grin, and took his turn... and lost the smirk when Gaara immediately retaliated. "Check-mate," the redhead said calmly, and stood immediately. He headed toward the bathroom as Kankuro gaped distastefully at the shōgi board.
"Well, it's been fun," Sakura lied, placing her tea cup down and standing up. "But I have some work to do. Congratulations on the relationship with Shikamaru, Temari. Bye."
Sakura was half-way out the door when Kankuro's booming voice cried out: "WHAT RELATIONSHIP?"
Sakura left quickly, flash-stepping toward her apartment the moment her sandals hit the roof of the hotel. She wasn't paying attention to what she was doing, just getting inside the seals as she normally did–habitual movements and muscle memory. Her mind was blank as she kicked off her shoes, stripped off her weapons (it was standard procedure to carry weapons, being a ninja), and headed straight for her bathroom.
She wasn't thinking clearly, that was it; Sakura forewent undressing and just stepped into her shower. The water was scalding hot, but she didn't care. She didn't register the tears, the sobs, or the grating sound of her fingernails scraping at the shower tiles. All she could feel was cold despite the scalding water, fear despite being in the comfort of her own home, and gut wrenching pain...
Half an hour later, Sakura wrung out her wet shirt absentmindedly, her hands still shaking. How the hell could she have let this happen to her, again? First she spent an inordinate amount of time daydreaming over Sasuke, who then became a missing-nin and tried to kill her, now she was pining after Gaara... and who knew what was going on in that head of his? She was a sucker for unrequited love, and she was sick to  death  of it.
...End Flashback...
That had been mere days after the end of the war, and less than two weeks later, Gaara had begun his monthly trips to Konoha. Her shishou had placed her on the roster to escort the Kazekage through the village, and she secretly hated her for it. Still, Gaara became more pleasant to speak with, and he never raised the issue with her that had upset her in the first place–not that he knew it had–and she started to look forward to his visits, instead of dreading being in the presence of someone who would never return her feelings. She'd just decided to take what she could get.
After all, if he had no intention of settling down, she had no-one to be jealous over...
Sakura stopped suddenly, realising she'd arrived at the main gates without noticing. Shading her eyes from the sun, she looked up and around–Gaara wasn't here yet, so she wasn't late after all. The guards on duty... their names escaped her right now ...waved to her and she returned the gesture out of habit more than anything, and etiquette.
She was stronger than the stupid girl who'd sobbed and begged Sasuke not to abandon the village, and vowed she'd cried over Gaara for the last time. But unlike with Sasuke, Gaara didn't know about her feelings, so she only had herself to blame for the lack of resolution for said feelings. She supposed, today was as good as any. It would be more humiliating to tell Gaara she was in love with him immediately before having to spend several days seeing to his needs when he wasn't in meetings with leaf officials–it wasn't like she trailed around after him.
And, despite her desire to spend more time with him, Sakura didn't want to do this again. She'd stood at the gates to Konoha, like the good little dignitary she was, and seen Gaara off every time his visit came to its inevitable end. She would smile, he was polite, and yet neither of them seemed to want to make eye contact. She had to say goodbye, and Sakura wasn't sure she had it in her to do this all over again.
No, there would be no more goodbyes after this.
– No More Goodbyes –
The cold always left him in pain. He supposed he was just used to the heat of Suna, but even the warmth of Konoha left him wanting. A cool breeze, much like the hint of winter, swept through his hotel room as Gaara absentmindedly packed. He felt lonely even when surrounded, so trips to the leaf with only ANBU as company were that and boring. He only came here to see Sakura, after all, and she didn't even know it.
Temari was the only person who knew about his infatuation. He had worked alongside her in the war, as she'd been assigned as his personal medic a few times, but it was her temper and his own stubbornness during those times that stood out the most.
Gaara sighed.
He was thinking about her a lot lately, and it was driving him insane. He had no idea how to go about changing the nature of their relationship, especially considering the only time they'd both been part of the same conversation involving romantic futures he'd ridiculed the idea of wanting someone by his side. He hadn't understood at the time, just how good it could feel, to want someone, or be wanted, outside the friend context.
But did he really get it, now? When he stopped to think about what it was he wanted from the feisty pinkette, all that came to mind was her time and attention. Sexuality and romantic situations only occurred to him after talking to others. Kankuro asked him when he was going to go ahead and finally get laid. Temari asked him when he was going to go ahead and finally ask Sakura out–or confess his love, whatever. He never answered them.
"Are you ready, Lord Kazekage?"
Gaara nodded to his ANBU guard and allowed the man to carry his bag for him. Like he needed him to. This was something he didn't think he'd ever get used to. He looked up at the Hokage Tower before turning his attention toward the main gates. Lost in his thoughts, Gaara relied on muscle memory and habit to steer him where he needed to go.
The Godaime Hokage had not allowed him to see Sakura so much this visit, so Gaara had sulked in his room a lot–though he would never let anyone, even his siblings, to see him pout over a girl. Sakura had given him his diplomatically demanded medical check-up every other time he'd come to Konoha, but this time, Tsunade was adamant about him keeping his distance. What the hell was going on? That mouse of a woman, Shizune… something, was the one who had seen to him this time, not that he'd really needed medical attention. Being a Kage meant that he should. It was both standard procedure and good politics.
But the question of what was going on was buzzing around in Gaara's head.
It wasn't like the Hokage owed him an explanation–the treaty between their nations didn't stipulate that a specific doctor had to see to him every time. And Gaara did feel a little foolish having looked forward to his physical exams when the pinkette was doing them. That other woman had cold hands.
Gaara shivered involuntarily at that thought, looking up as he realised he was close enough to the gates to see that Sakura was already waiting for him. Seeing her always brought back memories of the times he was too stupid to realise his interest in her was more than professional.
...Flashback...
It had started with him saving her life, escalated into an argument–about all the reasons why she hadn't needed saving and he was  not  stronger than her–and ended with him wishing he'd just left her to the mercy of those Zetsu clones. It wasn't like he was expecting a confession of undying love, let alone a ridiculously corny Valentine's card, but would it  kill  her to say "thank-you" in return for him not letting her get skewered?
Apparently, it would've.
That was when he finally understood what Shikamaru had been going on about for years, and why Naruto was waiting to start dating Hinata until the war was over–women were nothing but a nuisance.
But as the  Regimental Leader of the Allied Shinobi Forces, he had to at least appear like he cared if she had broken her nail beating the crap out of Naruto. Not that she verbally complained, but he caught her staring forlornly at her cuticles a number of times, as though her disappointment would magically grow them back.  And they fought over everything, argued every day, and barely spoke unless doing either–his medical check-ups notwithstanding.
The allied forces even had a bet going on who would snap and kill the other first.
It was toward the end of the war, one specific day, that had turned them around. Gaara fought and sealed his resurrected father. Sakura caught him crying in his tent. He'd sobbed on the battlefield, which was bad enough, but the quite tears were the ones that ended up on display. But instead of making some snappy retort (like he'd feared she would, though Naruto had insisted to him later that Sakura would never do such a thing, no matter how much she hated him), she'd knelt down beside him. Gaara could still remember the feeling of her breast against his cheek as she held him.
Just being there, being his friend, she'd affected him more than she would ever know. More than  he  would know either–until the war was over, he was finally back in Suna, and he quickly discovered that he actually  missed  that insufferable Kunoichi.
...End Flashback...
And so began his visits to see her, making up excuse after excuse so that even Kankuro was suspicious of his reasons. But this back and forth was tormenting him. He needed to decide on what to do about this attachment he'd developed and clear things up once and for all.
– No More Goodbyes –
"Hey, Gaara."
Gaara nodded to Sakura, as he always did, and motioned to his ANBU guards–they disappeared from sight, now waiting for him along the path out of Konoha. Sakura looked startled at this, but quickly covered it with a smile.
"I suppose this is goodbye again," she said, fiddling with her thumbs nervously.
He smiled genially at this, not sure what it was she wanted him to say. But he spoke with conviction, remembering every visit he'd ever made to Konoha, in an attempt to let her know how he felt, had ended the same way. "We always seem to be saying goodbye, don't we?"
She nodded. "Uh... Gaara?"
"Yes?"
Sakura swallowed back the bile threatening to sear her throat and clenched her fists. 'Get a grip, Sakura!'
She really needed to do this before she lost her nerve. "I've been thinking... um..." She shifted uncomfortably. "I wanted to tell you... I love you." Her eyes fell to the ground.
Great... she'd evolved her love confessions from becoming a sobbing mess to pretending her shoes were more interesting than the object of said confession. Sakura forced herself, rather painfully, to look up at Gaara. The shock was obvious... was that a good or bad thing? At least he didn't look disgusted.
"I've loved you for a long time," she heard herself saying–rambling; she couldn't stop herself. "And I completely understand if you don't feel the same way–who would, right?–it's just I can't do this anymore, the whole escorting you thing. I can't be around you anymore, not like this. So it's best if–"
She ignored the sudden intake of breath from the nearby, tactless guards as Gaara interrupted her rambling to kiss her. His lips were warm, slightly parted, and enticing as she immediately and unconsciously leant into him, returning the kiss. Gaara's hands were unobtrusive as they slid up her sides; his right hand slipped down behind her, falling to the small of her back, while his left hand ran through her hair, pulling her more tightly to him.
Sakura parted her lips, letting him in and just enjoying being held by the Kazekage as he took control. It was the most amazing feeling–she'd never kissed anyone before! Her heart was racing, but not painfully so, and the feel of his body pressed against hers only added to the tingling sensation ripping through her as she lost herself to the delirium.
She was breathless when Gaara finally pulled away, barely able to stand on her own two feet. There were no words to describe that... he'd literally stolen her breath away, and she had nothing left to use. She tried, but couldn't speak.
So Sakura just lowered her head to his chest, holding tightly to the front of his Kazekage robes. Gaara chuckled, the light reverberation no more than a purr in his chest as she inhaled his scent. Sakura looked up at him, her eyes locking with his, losing their fear as he smiled back at her.
"Promise me," she said breathily. "You won't leave me again."
"No more goodbyes," he promised.
– No More Goodbyes –
High above and on the other side of the village, she watched them saying goodbye for the umpteenth time, wondering how dense Gaara had to be to not notice Sakura's feelings for him. The way Tsunade saw it, she had two choices: get drunk on sakē for the rest of the day, or force Sakura into confessing her undying love to the Kazekage... decisions, decisions.
Hm...
Like always, she could see everything from her open window, spying on her fellow ninja, just like countless Hokage before her (though each had their own methods). She'd attempted to change the dynamic of their encounters this time around, by keeping Gaara from Sakura's side, since it was human nature to be lulled into a comfortable routine, rather than work up the nerve to break that monotony. So far, she'd seen a grumpier Gaara, more depressed Sakura, startled Naruto, and an increase in her own consumption of sakē. This gave her the hope that the Kazekage was missing the pinkette's company, and would respond more favourably to a confession from the young woman.
Hopefully.
Finally making her decision, Tsunade grabbed the sakē bottle from under her desk, keeping her eyes on the distant forms of the two lovebirds as they embraced. And then she smiled slightly before turning away from the sight. "Sakē it is."

Genin Sasuke, Sakura, Hinata, Naruto having to fight the reader in the chunin examin (They and the reader are in love with each other.)
author's note: This is so tragic why would you do this to them. It was always the end of the world when you had to face off against your crush in a game or something at that age, huh? I wrote this from the perspective of the reader being from Konoha as well. I hope you like it!

summary: The genins have to face off against their crush in the one-on-one battles at the chunin exams.
Uzumaki Naruto
Oh, sweet summer child genin Naruto. I had the biggest crush on him when I was watching the show as a kid. I think even if he was up against someone he had a crush on in the chunin exams, he wouldn’t hold anything back for his sake and their own. The exams are for you to get stronger and show your skills off, after all!
Beforehand, though, would be different. Naruto, for all intents and purposes in part 1, was quite down bad for any person he had a crush on. Seeing your two names on the screen would for sure send him into a flustered shock. He would get that sly grin on his face, and say to you, “I’m not lettin’ anyone stop me from winning, not even you! I’ll make sure not to hurt you, though, you know?”
The fight would be a ferocious but still friendly spar, contrasting from the killing intent a lot of the other participants went in with like Gaara and the Sound Four. You both would give it your all, running yourselves even more ragged, However, in the end Naruto’s Shadow Clones and taijutsu would prove a bit too much and the ref would call you down for the count after a particularly solid blow.
He would help you off of the ground and congratulate you for such a tough-to-win battle. Afterwards, he’d probably turn away from everyone else, grinning and giggling at the realization that he got to hold your hand for a second.
Uchiha Sasuke
Before Itachi traumatized him yet again, Sasuke at this point was actually learning how to kind of open up to people. I think his crush would be extremely well hidden underneath his bad attitude. He’s not the type to let people know his true emotions very quickly. Your names would show up on the screen, and he would simply step forward, ready to engage in a spar.
Sasuke wouldn’t hold back, but obviously if you’re not an enemy he has no reason to severely hurt you. You knew that he was unable to use ninjutsu, so you attempted to use this to your advantage to win the match.
After fighting hard, Sasuke would end up catching you in a taijutsu combo that knocked you down hard, the ref calling you out. Sasuke would stay standing as you got up to make sure you were alright, then bowing his head slightly to you. “Good match. You’ve improved quite a bit, but still not enough to beat me,” he would comment before walking off to join the rest of the genin.
Underneath that cool, teenage edgelord personality, though, his heart was racing from more than just the physical activity he did. He’s just particularly good at hiding it!
Haruno Sakura
Sakura, in the Forest of Death, just had her true awakening moment as a kunoichi. The last thing on her mind is you, but of course you’re the name to pop up with hers on the board above. I could personally see her struggling a little bit with this, does she want to hurt you and push past you? Before her experience, in the exams, I think there’s a chance she would lose resolve here, not wanting to fight the person of her affections. But here, while still hesitant, she’s ready to fight for her position and her honor as a young shinobi.
You two would line up to fight and immediately begin on signal from the ref. You were friends with Sakura, so seeing as you two sparred frequently, you could tell she was holding something back unconsciously. You decided to goad her on a little, to make sure the fight was fair.
Are they kidding me? They think I’m not taking this seriously! Go and crush them, who cares if they’re cute! her inner thoughts would ring. Whatever was restraining her would go away, and you two would exchange ninjutsu and taijutsu back and forth. At the end, however, Sakura barely manages to knock you flat down, advancing to the next round while ragged herself.
Sakura would tease you a bit after helping you get up at the end of the match, some banter ensuing between the two of you. Inside, she would be squealing in delight at getting more of your attention, even though she just smacked you down.
Hyuga Hinata
My sweet, sweet child genin Hinata… Against her crush in the chunin exams, I’m not sure how she would fare. Her painfully shy and reserved attitude may interrupt her thinking process during a fight. Seeing your name on the board with hers would make her face erupt into a fierce blush.
You would meet Hinata on the field, the ref signaling for you to start. She wouldn’t make a move, though, just looking at you in a defensive stance. Her fighting style the entire time would be defensive, trying her best to push off your moves. Since she’s not fighting Neji, I doubt there would be a reason for her to really have her moment yet, so you would eventually win after wearing her down.
After the fight, you would ask her what had happened. The two of you were on missions together before, you had seen her beat down some opponents of your skill level with her Byakugan skills. “I-I’m not sure… I don’t know… Please, let me have a moment,” she would mutter, covering her entire face with her hands and facing away from you.
Wandering away, you would be slightly concerned about Hinata, but all that was on her mind was you, how she hoped you would win the tournament now in her honor.

Kicho's Main Story Chapter 6 Part 1
These translations are not intended as a replacement for the game. Please support cybird by buying their stories. JP SPOILERS under the cut. Expect mistakes.
Tumblr media
Mai: "So, this Kicho who is here now is..."
Sasuke: "I don't know all the details, but I guess he was affected by the distortion of history."
Sasuke: "That means he was originally a different person who never existed."
Mai: "Isn't that impossible?"
(How can one person's existence change like that?)
Sasuke: "I can't say it's impossible. There's always the unexpected."
Sasuke: "Have you noticed anything unusual around you since the wormhole stopped appearing?"
Mai: "Unusual?"
Mai: “Oh, after the attack on Azuchi Castle, the book I brought from the future turned weird.”
Mai: “It was a travel guide, which had some historical info in it, but right now, most of the pages are blank.”
Mai: “It was as if the future had disappeared.”
Tumblr media
Sasuke: “I see. That would explain why I can no longer observe wormholes.”
Sasuke: “Then, to return to our original time, we first have to deal with the distortion.”
Knock, knock.
Mai: "-----!"
Subordinate's voice: "Have you finished carrying the package?"
Sasuke: "Ah, yes. Safely."
Subordinate's voice: "I see. Then I'll walk you to the door."
(Looks like he's on the lookout.)
When I blinked at him, Sasuke immediately understood and replied cheerfully while quickly writing something on a piece of paper he had taken out of his pocket.
Sasuke: "Thank you very much."
Sasuke: "Well then, miss, I'm leaving. I look forward to working with you again."
Mai: "Yes, it's my pleasure."
I accepted the note he laid on the table, and just as I crumpled it up to hide it in my hand, the door opened.
Kicho's subordinate: "This way, please."
Sasuke: "Yes."
I looked over at Sasuke, resisting the urge to wave my hand.
After confirming the two had left, I gently unfolded the crumpled-up paper.
"Anyway, there may be some serious things ahead. I'll come back to you again. Until then, please take care."
(Serious things, huh?)
(I finally have a chance to get in touch with Mitsuhide, thanks to Sasuke, but there are more mysteries to solve.)
That rainy night, I finally felt grounded, and my vague sense of self took shape when Kicho told me I should just live as me no matter what.
(Is there anything in this world that didn't exist originally?)
(If so, when everything goes back to the way it was, will it be as if it never existed again?)
Tumblr media
Kicho: "That's all for today."
Mai: "Okay.”
Kicho: "............"
Mai: "What is it?"
Tumblr media
Kicho: "That's what I want to ask. What happened while I was away?"
Mai: "Eh, is something wrong with me?"
Kicho: "You have dark circles under your eyes. Are you having trouble sleeping?"
(As expected, he's sharp as a tack.)
Mai: "My sewing tools and fabrics arrived the other day, and I got caught up in making clothes."
Mai: "I know staying up late is not good, so I'll be careful."
Kicho: "Yeah, it's not worth it if you hurt yourself. It's best to do it in moderation."
(To be honest, I haven't even come up with a design yet because I don't know what to make.)
(I can't talk to him about it, hence the lie.)
For the past few days since my encounter with Sasuke, I couldn't stop thinking about what I had heard.
I found myself worrying about his every move more than ever and ended up thinking about a lot of things at night.
(In the first place, if there's a historical distortion involved, he may not even be aware of it, and it's probably none of his business.)
Kicho: "By the way, I have one more thing to tell you."
Kicho: "We're going to have a banquet here at the trading post in two weeks to get acquainted with our business partners."
Kicho: "No, I think it would be better to call it a party."
Mai: "I could kind of imagine it. Can I help with the preparations?"
Tumblr media
Kicho: "Yeah. You're quick to catch on."
He nodded briefly and took a few papers from his desk drawer.
Kicho: "Here is a summary of what I need."
Kicho: "We don't have much time, so we'll have to split up the work with the others."
Mai: "What about the business meetings?"
Kicho: "I'll head to one tomorrow alone."
(Alone.)
Mai: "Then, we'll be working separately for a while."
Kicho: "Also, I'm not going to have my men watch you 24/7."
Kicho: "As long as you don't make any suspicious movements, there is no need to be so worried."
Mai: "What?"
Kicho: "You looked bothered just now. I just thought you were worried about the surveillance."
Mai: "No, it's not that一Oh."
I involuntarily turned around to escape his gaze.
(Was I feeling lonely just now?)
(Nah, there's no way. Maybe he's right. Maybe I was just worried about the surveillance.)
Tumblr media
Kicho: "Mai, what's wrong?"
Mai: "N-Nothing!"
Mai: "More importantly, um, I'm gonna get ready for today's work. Excuse me!"
Without making eye contact, I left the room in a hurry.
Mai: "*sigh* That surprised me."
I put my hand on my forehead and took a deep breath.
(Anyway, let's go to work.)
Then, without seeing Kicho much, I began to spend my days running around preparing for the event.
Mai: "Is that the guy?"
Kicho's subordinate: "Probably. It's easy to tell when he's dressed like that."
Mai: "Right. I'll go talk to him then."
(I still get nervous when I'm with other people.)
(Until now, I've mostly been working with Kicho.)
I came to the port today with his men to get the necessary supplies for the party.
Hiding my tense appearance, I hurried over to our business partner, wearing a tall hat.
Mai: "Hello. Um, here, please."
When I handed him the letter that Kicho had written for him, he smiled, nodded, then beckoned me to come over and walk on.
Tumblr media
Mai: "They have some stuff over there. Let's go."
Kicho's subordinate: "Yeah."
(I can't believe he's already made all the arrangements.)
(We worked every day and night, so when did he start preparing all this?)
Thinking of him, I looked at the man walking ahead of me.
(Still, it's fun to see all these fancy-looking clothes.)
(I bet the people attending the party will wear something nice, too.)
(I wonder what Kicho plans to wear.)
Mai: "Right!"
Kicho's subordinate: "Is something wrong?"
Mai: "Yes, I've finally decided on the design."
Kicho's subordinate: "Design?"
Mai: "Um, I mean the style of the kimono."
Mai: "Hey, can I ask you for some help?"
That night.
Kicho: "What's the matter with you guys? Why are you in a hurry?"
Kicho's subordinate 1: "Before you return to your room, can I have a moment of your time?"
Kicho's subordinate 2: "It'll only take a moment, so please remain standing."
Kicho's subordinate 3: "Excuse me!"
Tumblr media
Kicho: "Hey, what are you suddenly wrapping around me?"
Kicho's subordinate 4: "Don't worry about it. We'll remove it as soon as we finish the measurement."
Kicho's subordinate 2: "This one is complete. How are the others?"
Kicho's subordinate 3: "Done."
Kicho's subordinate 1: "This one is also complete."
Kicho's subordinate 4: "Then I'll take them and report back to Lady Mai tomorrow."
Kicho: "Mai?"
Kicho's subordinate 2: "Thank you for your cooperation, Lord Kicho. We apologize for troubling you."
Kicho’s subordinate 2: "Well, please excuse us!"
Kicho: "Hey, you guys...!"
Before Kicho could call out to them, his subordinates quickly left.
Kicho, who remained there alone, looked at the door of Mai's room at the end of the hallway with a look of dismay.
Kicho: "I didn't expect you to order around my men in just a few days."
Kicho: "What the hell are you up to?"
One week later.
(Yup, it looks pretty good!)
Comparing the design with the finished material, I pulled my sewing kit next to me.
Tumblr media
(All I have to do is sew the rest and make adjustments as I go along.)
(I really appreciated their cooperation.)
His men were willing to help me when I asked them to get his measurements for the clothes.
(They weren't as scary as I thought they would be when I talked to them.)
(Just like Kicho.)
(I haven't seen him for about a week, but I hope he's okay.)
I imagined his face and felt a little sad.
(Anyway, I'll do whatever I can to finish this before the party next week.)
(If I do it on my breaks, I'm sure I can finish it.)
Mai: "Crap, it's this late already!?"
Remembering my promise, I rushed out of the room.
Tumblr media
Mai: "Thank you for your cooperation. I really appreciate it."
Merchant: "No, this is nothing. Merchants help each other from time to time."
(He's so kind.)
Today, I visited a merchant we met along the way to borrow some supplies for the party at a warehouse near the main street.
Merchant: "The tablewares are on that shelf, and the vases and picture scrolls are over there."
Merchant: "Next is一sorry, there are too many things to keep track of."
Merchant: "The items stored in this warehouse are not particularly meant to be used, so please take them as you like."
Mai: "Okay, thank you very much."
Merchant: "By the way, I heard that Lord Kicho is coming today."
Mai: "He's busy right now, so I'm taking his place."
Merchant: "I see. He really trust you."
Mai: "I don't know about that."
(Sometimes it's because they don't trust you that they keep you around.)
(But I don't think I should say that here.)
Mai: "Don't worry. Even if he's not here, I'll do my best. Huh?"
Before I knew it, something cold touched my neck, and as soon as I looked at it, I saw him holding something shiny.
(A knife!?)
Mai: "Why?"
Merchant: "Sorry, but a businessman needs information to make a profit."
Merchant: "See, I told you before. We need to help each other from time to time."
Mai: "I don't have any information. I'm only一"
Merchant: "Shut up!"
Mai: "............"
I could feel the coldness of the knife as he put more force into it.
Tumblr media
(What should I do? Kicho's subordinates aren't here yet.)
The man had a scary glint in his eyes, as if he believed that what he was doing was the right thing, with not the slightest hint of hesitation.
(I don't think I can buy some time.)
(I have to handle this myself!)
I quickly stepped back, put my hand on the shelf, and knocked it down forcefully.
Merchant: "Whoa!"
Crash!
Mai: "I'm Kicho's secretary, but no matter what I am, I will never do what you say!"
Merchant: "Guh, you cheeky little shit! Hey, you guys, come out here right now!"
(Are there more people outside!?)
(Then I can't escape.)
???: "Yeah, I was going to come out even if you didn't tell me."
Mai: "Huh?"
Kicho: "It looks like you gave my secretary a great deal of hospitality."
Tumblr media
Mai: "Kicho!"
A graceful silhouette holding a pistol emerged against the light shining into the warehouse.
Kicho: "Your buddies outside are in no condition to be of any use anymore."
Kicho: "Get that girl over here now, or I'll shoot you."
Merchant: "Damn it!"
Mai: “Ah!”
He pushed me hard in the back, and before I had time to catch myself, a blinding pain resonated through my entire body as I fell to the ground.
Mai: “Ugh...”
Kicho: “Mai!”
Kicho immediately ran to me while the man rushed to the doorway, smiling wryly at us.
(Don’t tell me he’s...)
Merchant: “Later, losers!”
Mai: “W-Wait!”
I frantically shouted, only to be answered by the sound of a door being closed, followed by the sound of a lock.
(What to do? We’re trapped.)
Mai: “Sorry for causing you trouble.”
Kicho: “............”
Mai: “Kicho?”
I looked up with my hands on the floor and saw him breathing shallow breaths, and his face was so pale.
Mai: “Um, are you okay?”
Kicho: “Yeah, I’m fine.”
Mai: “Yeah, you’re not okay.”
He immediately turned away from me, but I could see a bit of sweat trickling down his forehead.
Mai: "Are you hurt somewhere? Or are you feeling sick from all the work you've been doing the past few days?"
Kicho: "No, none of the above. It's because of this situation."
Tumblr media
Kicho: "I have to get out of here as soon as possible."
Kicho frowned as he fell on one knee, clutching his collar.
(His hands are shaking, and his breathing is becoming more frantic.)
(Is there anything I can do?)
Mai: "You stay put. I'll find a way out."
I got up and walked around the warehouse, relying on the little light I could see.
However, there was no place to go in or out except for the closed door.
I tried opening it, but it was locked from the outside.
(I don't think I can do anything about it from here. At least, if someone passes by一no, what if it's a guard?)
Mai: "Kicho, we need to find a way to get out of here."
Just as I turned around, his shadow slid out of its position.
Kicho: ".............."
Mai: "Kicho!"
I ran to him and supported his body as he fell to the floor.
Just listening to the sound of his weak breathing made me feel suffocated.
(What's wrong with him?)
Kicho: "...ive…"
Mai: "What?"
Tumblr media
Kicho: "I want to live."

Fuck, marry, kill. But describe how you would do each one and why. Choose three characters from Naruto. Three from Death Note. And another three from a fandom of your choosing.
Alright, @xvalstarinex
Fuck - Adult Sasuke, where do I start with this one….I love him but he needs to be brought down a few pegs. Let’s say he won’t be able to walk when I’m done with him.
Marry - Gaara, in my little delulu world we’d run away together and elope.
Kill - Danzo, do I even need to explain? I hate this bastard with a passion and hope he burns in the deepest pits of hell. I’d choke him out if I could.
……………………
Fuck - L, I’d totally give him a bunch of hickeys and make him beg 🫣
Marry - Mello, he’s so pretty, small ceremony, close friends only. Need I say more?
Kill - Ryuuk, I don’t really like him so I’d just put weights in his pockets and push him into a lake or something. You can’t really kill a death god huh?
………………………
Fuck - Mikasa, I’d totally let her tie me up and pull my hair. She could easily overpower me, not that I’m complaining.
Marry - Hange, try and find a secluded place in the forest, preferably where there’s no titans and have a ceremony between just the two of us and the woodland creatures
Kill - Bertholdt, i just don’t like him. Id feed him to a titan,

Chapter 48: Two Degrees of Separation - Comparing notes with Sasuke and Shingen leads to more questions about the multiverse.
Shingen x OC; Kenshin x MC (Mai)
Previous Chapter: Here
Logline - Disguised as a boy, Katsuko finds herself working for Shingen, but her dangerous masquerade becomes difficult to sustain when she falls for the man with a fatal secret.
“I brought these in from the car.” Sasuke slid open the door to the bedroom wide enough to pass a few shopping bags through.
“You can come in. We’re both decent.” I took the bags, noting one of them was from a high-end lingerie store. That… had the possibility of going very very wrong, in a number of ways. I dropped the bags on the foot of the bed, as Sasuke settled in a chair by the window. “You let Shingen loose in a lingerie store?”
There was a rather embarrassed cough from the ninja by the window. He looked away from us.
“I was fine. He’s the one who can’t be trusted around women’s underclothes. I may be scarred for life.” Shingen shot a glare at Sasuke, who seemed to take great interest in the parking lot outside.
“I thought it was a mannequin and not a live model,” Sasuke muttered.
“Nope. Don’t need any more details there.” Instead, I dove into the bags, finding a couple pairs of jeans, some t-shirts… “Oooh, Black Widow, nice.”
“Figured Natasha Romanov would be your jam.” Sasuke sounded more confident now that we’d left the subject of underwear.
“Oh yeah… and I’ve got about seven years of MCU to catch up on. And I don’t know how many seasons of Game of Thrones.” It hadn’t occurred to me until that moment that I’d finally learn how some of these continuing stories ended.
Shingen and Sasuke looked at each other, then Sasuke shook his head. “Um… about the Game of Thrones conclusion… you might actually find the story of my adventures in ladies lingerie categorically less traumatic.”
Huh. I returned my attention to the bags and pulled out a hoodie! I hugged it to me. It was red, not the blue-grey shade of the one that I had been wearing on the day I had initially gone through the wormhole, but it was soft and warm and felt like home in a way that no other article of clothing had. “How did you know?” I slipped it on and zipped it up.
There was a tug on the hood. Shingen flipped it up over my head. “Red hood. The better to see you with.”

“Alright, Sasuke, are you ready for all the wormhole weirdness I need to tell you about?” The three of us had relocated to the living area of the hotel suite to eat lunch that Sasuke had picked up from one of the hotel’s onsite restaurants. He’d asked me if I wanted pizza, but until I was sure how my digestive system would readjust to modern food, I’d decided to stick with soba noodles and a light soup. I was wearing my first pair of jeans in nearly seven (or was it eight now?) years, and they fit surprisingly well (Shingen: “I know every inch of your body, it wasn’t difficult”).
“Before we debrief, I have something else for you.” Sasuke handed me a sealed manila envelope. He didn’t say anything else, so I went ahead and opened it, pulling out identification papers, including a passport as well as a bank card. The accompanying account information made me do a double, then a triple take to make sure I was reading the amount correctly.
“Sasuke, do you have previously unrevealed connections with the Yakuza?” I took a second look at the passport. Yes that was definitely me in the picture – it looked like my old student ID photo, had been “aged up” slightly. The birthday was correct as well. Someone clearly had skills.
“No. Not that I am aware of. This came from a Professor I know.” Sasuke glanced over my shoulder to look at the paperwork. “Holy mother forking shirtballs.”
“From your advisor? The one who arranged my hospital stay?” Shingen examined the passport. “Nice picture… but not as nice as the real thing.”
“No. Different professor. My advisor in Kyoto who helped get you into the University Hospital is Professor Sakaki. These – as well as Shingen’s papers and bank account … which did not have nearly this many zeros – came from a friend of my parents. I’m certain they have nothing to do with the Yakuza.” He laughed off the idea. “Actually, their friend, Professor Yamaoka was the man who gave the initial idea that led me to study wormholes and their relationship to temporal anomalies.”
Wait…what? Who?
“Professor Yamaoka.” I said it slowly, to confirm I had heard that correctly.
Aki, you have some ‘splaining to do.
“Yes.” Sasuke took the envelope and folded it up. There was a rattling noise within. “There appears to be something else inside.” He shook it. “Given the amount of money in your account, I can only surmise it’s a key to a safety deposit box that contains the Holy Grail.”
“The what?” Shingen apparently hadn’t worked his way up to European literature – or the Monty Python film (the latter was something I would make sure to correct before we went back to the Sengoku era).
“No.” I already knew what was rattling around in that envelope. “It will be a shogi piece. A lance… or maybe a knight.” It had better not be a pawn after all he’d put me through. I turned the envelope upside down and dumped the item onto the coffee table. It landed with a clink, spun a few times, and landed tokin side up.
The knight.
Sasuke blinked at me a few times. “How did you know?”
“I’ve been working for Yamaoka Akihira for the past seven years. Shogi is his… calling card.” I sank back into the sofa cushion. On the day he’d left me with Shingen, he’d kept his face in the shadows. Later, when I’d thought about it, I’d figured that he’d been trying to keep Shingen from seeing his face… but no… he’d been hiding from Sasuke.
A lot of explaining.
“Your old master… the man in the woods. He’s the same?” At my nod, Shingen turned to Sasuke. “You said this man is a friend of your parents?” Shingen quickly put things together, and I was sure he could tell this information had unsettled me.
“Yes… I mean, they aren’t besties, but I know he’s consulted them on history.” He picked up the tile and examined it. It was a modern tile, made out of some kind of tempered porcelain, and not one of the wooden ones we’d used when we played at The Mountain. “They might, possibly have some old photos of him that I could try to get my hands on.”
“Anything they have would be terrific. I feel like five mysteries just got solved, but five times that many new mysteries appeared.” Popping in and out of time would explain Aki’s many disappearing acts. But why had he never told me he was a fellow time traveler? Why had he never sent me home? And what was he doing in the Sengoku era to begin with? ‘Putting things on the right path’ seemed a lot more ominous now that I knew he was from the future. “Can they scan what they have and upload it to the cloud?”
Sasuke shook his head. “They’re mysteriously attached to paper. The last time I tried to talk my father through attaching a file, he emailed me his entire hard drive and crashed my laptop.”
I put the questions about Aki aside for the moment. Possibly Sasuke and Shingen, once I told them about my detour into another timeline, might be able to help put the pieces together when it came to Aki’s involvement. “Sasuke, remember when you said you thought Togakushi might lead to a different timeline than this?”
“Theoretically, yes, though I suppose since you made it here, that must not have been the case.” He was typing up notes on a tablet faster than I’d ever seen anyone type before. He glanced up and caught the expression on my face. “Ninja fingertips. I didn’t used to be able to type this fast.”
I led him back to the topic. “Yeah, about that. My trip through the wormhole was not like the original trip. I felt like I sort of… well, stuck.” And even though I was trying to be so totally blasé, like, ‘oh yeah, I got trapped in a temporal anomaly, NBD,’ I could feel my lungs tighten at the memory of the feeling of that fog sifting through my body. Shingen put his hand on my shoulder and gave me an encouraging squeeze. Yeah… he could tell I was upset.
“Given that the passage of months here and according to Yuki, in the Sengoku, was the same, you may actually have been stuck in there a year.” Right, Sasuke had gone back and for the between here and the Sengoku while I was missing. “But you didn’t experience that physically – or that wound on your arm would have healed completely – and you’d have starved to death.”
“Thanks Sasuke.” That time I did shudder. And the mental experience had been unsettling enough without throwing in starvation. “When I did come out of the wormhole, I was told I was in the wrong timeline.”
Sasuke stopped typing. He looked like he was trying not to bounce up and down on the couch. “Do you know what this means?” He hurried on before either of us could respond. “Proof that the timelines are connected to a multiverse. Who told you that you were in the wrong timeline?”
“You did.”
“I did? I did! That is… that is frakking awesome!” He pumped his fist, then bent over his tablet and did that supersonic speed typing again. “What did I say?”
Shingen and I looked at each other, exchanged a silent mental shrug, then back at Sasuke.
“You… or I guess technically Sasuke Mach 2, looked surprised to see me, and I asked you where Shingen was, and that’s when you – he said I was in the wrong timeline.” While Sasuke seemed to be having his nerdgasm, I glanced at Shingen to see how he took that. Aside from holding me even tighter, he appeared to be following along fairly well.
Sasuke continued to fire questions at me faster than I could process them. “Were you still at the Togakushi shrine? Were you in present time or the future of that time? What was I wearing? Did I have any cool tech? Did anything unusual happen before you got stuck?”
“Yes. Present, as far as I could tell. A parka. A cell phone – I think it was a cell phone. And…” Right before I got stuck Iekane had pushed me and told me… wait, before that. In my head, I rewound things back to when I was in the tree. “Shingen, have you ever heard the phrase don’t bring a knife to a gun fight?”
He pondered for a moment. “No. However it makes sense.”
I turned to Sasuke who was already typing into his tablet. “Yes, but not sure… ah. The Untouchables. 1987.”
“I’m pretty sure Iekane was already familiar with wormholes… and has been to the present before… in fact… he said… ‘I came here with him’ … him being Aki. I thought he meant he was with Aki before Aki based himself on the Mountain. But he could have meant that he came from this time with Aki.” Before Sasuke could ask more questions, I told my story from the moment Yuki and I had spotted Iekane. “Iekane looked happy to have gotten into the wormhole. If what Sasuke Mach 2 told me is true, maybe Iekane is the one who is messing up the timelines.”
“It wasn’t this Sasuke who talked to me at the flood site?” Shingen stared at Sasuke, as if he were trying to determine what was different about the other version of him. “I do remember thinking something was strange about you, but after all that happened, I’d put it out of my head once he said a child had fallen into the water.”
Pushed. The child was pushed. The boy… what was his name? His father had said it, hadn’t he? I tried to put myself back into that moment, but my thoughts were interrupted by Sasuke.
“Huh. I wonder how I travelled there without a wormhole… no wait, you said I told you that getting back here was ‘lateral jump’.” Sasuke turned his tablet into a sketch pad and began drawing some kind of schematic. “That would mean we could jump between different points in the multiverse, and-”
“Sasuke!” He looked up me, started by my tone. “You told me not to let you investigate. It sounded like getting me here stabilized this timeline. Maybe we should do as little interfering as possible.” For my part, once I was back in the Sengoku, I was going to stay as far from the wormhole nodes as possible.
“Agreed, Devil.” Shingen pressed a kiss to the side of my head. “The wormhole stole you from me once. I do not intend to let it happen again.”
“Investigating is not interfering.” Sasuke pointed out.
“Sasuke. I know you. You wouldn’t be able to resist poking around in alternate timelines… but, from what I can tell from the conversation I overheard,” I decided not to mention that I was pretty sure Sasuke Mach 2 had been talking with Katsuko Mach 2, “there’s a timeline where Kenshin is running around modern Toyko, causing all sorts of mayhem.”
Both Shingen and Sasuke were silent at that.
In fact, Sasuke literally turned pale.
Sasuke erased the schematic he’d begun to sketch on his tablet. “New plan. We stick to this timeline, and only use the wormhole to go back to the Sengoku era when it reopens – which should be in about three months.”
“That sounds like an excellent strategy,” Shingen said.
