Summary:

Suspicious activity in the Diamond the night before the Opening ceremony sets Chance and Heir on edge, Someone used Illario’s security pass to enter the building, but Illario himself is nowhere to be found and the Security Camera's seemed to have been tampered with. meanwhile Lucanis learns more about Altara’s Scars and comes to a realisation.

She hears Lucanis's door shut and the sound of him moving around in his room, a few minutes later the adjoining door opens again, He is dressed in an white Antivan crow T-shirt with grey joggers with a black hoody, his cheeks are still flushed, he runs his hand through his hair trying to tame it he looked adorable.

He smiles, noticing she was still in her night clothes and had only put on a dressing gown. "Viago isn't a patient man, You should get dressed." He teases her. "I'll meet you in the cafeteria," She says, going through her drawers looking for some clothes to wear. He hesitates as if he wants to say something, but stops himself, the moment was gone.

"Right." He sounds a little disappointed before he returns to his room, she hears his door open again and then the sound of his retreating footsteps down the hall. She smiles to herself. Something has changed between them.

She couldn't put her finger on it, but there was a new tension between them, something that ran deeper, something tender. they needed to talk about it, it was clear what he had intended, the way he had looked at her just before Viago interrupted them.

She wanted to be sure they where both on the same page, that this was truly what he wanted, she didnt want him to feel obligated or pressured, she had been very insistent they go at his pace for that very reason.

She tries not to dwell on it as she gathers some clothes. she had to admit that was the best night's sleep she has had in a long time, She had felt so safe in his arms, she wondered if he felt the same, he had been so warm, his presence alone had kept her usual nightmares at bay.

She grins, whatever conversation they needed was going to have to wait until after breakfast. Pulling on some clothes and running a brush through her hair to untangle it, she pulls on a hoodie and exits her room, heading for the lift and the cafeteria.

yes! it's this specific passage where lucanis is just seething with rage and trying to keep a lid on it, and illario's a stablising, comforting presence. BROTHERS!!!!! <3 though i chose to draw his hand on his shoulder rather than his arm i guess. artistic liberty!

I've been picking mostly only the essential flirt options with lucanis in the romance so far (I've personally found the dynamic much more natural and mutual when you do that, more like forming a solid friendship slowly and inevitably becoming something else and less like you keep pushing on him and getting little back b/c he seemingly just gets overwhelmed and goes into freeze instead), and I think rye is a pretty hard person to read at the best of times even though he's been Down Real Bad from pretty early on and their chemistry as people is naturally really good. so the way the almost-kiss plays out in this playthrough feels a lot like it has the added layer of lucanis realizing that no but for sure rook is flirting and not just being kind or a good friend* it IS actually happening it's not just wishful/fearful thinking!!! and then uh. maybe going a bit too hard a bit too fast in all the excitement at that revelation haha

*in lucanis' defense he has seemingly literally never had a friend who wasn't his cousin-brother before, under those circumstances I suppose some confusion is extremely natural if not outright expected lmao

lord its so dark in here the sahara desert of tsaritsa content you are like a shining oasis. your characterisation of her compels me & mihoyo would be hard pressed to top it imo.!! caaaaan i humbly request yr thoughts on her first meeting w a reader of any kind, or maybe even multiple kinds (sagau, sagau god au, isekai, etc) if you so desire...

it really is like a desert here. being the fan of a character we aren't getting until the last damn nation is driving me up a wall but i will persevere bc if nothing else i support morally bankrupt women in media. we r in a severe drought over here but i do my best. unfortunately nothing i say is ever coherent so pull out your translation notes its abt 2 be messy

also this got out of hand but thats bc first meetings w the tsaritsa are tricky to write + a LOT of her characterization lies in deeper exploration then just surface level yknow...NOT A DIG AT YOU this is just my excuse for rambling. gently pats the tsaritsa she can hold so much complexity i do not have the word count to delve into it completely :]

gonna talk cult au for a bit here though because that's 99% of my content. and honestly? she thrives in sub au's of the cult au like villain au + imposter au. it's basically made for her. i mean, early days, the imposter au had been going around for a little while but one of the first few ideas was the Fatui taking reader in so like. it kinda technically actually was. pretty sure cult au Tsaritsa popped up because of the imposter au. a lot of it's writers kinda left though which. man am i getting old or.

anyway.

there isn't much of a chance her first impression is all that positive. at best it's usually neutral, imo, but rarely if ever positive. specifically because i view the Tsaritsa as someone who isn't as fanatical as most of the acolytes typically are towards the creator. she's not exactly going to worship the ground you walk on unlike a certain geo lizard. which is partially why i think she thrives in the sub au's i mentioned.

imposter au, for example. she meets you at your lowest. there's no gaudy extravagance or pampering from the acolytes waiting for you because your own acolytes have turned on you. for all intents and purposes you aren't a "god" at all. which is why i don't think she meshes well with normal cult au reader. the Fatui are made up of outcasts, basically, and imposter au slots right in just perfectly. you're weak, at your lowest, when you meet the Fatui in the imposter au. and the Fatui can help you, too.

a mutual exchange, really. the Tsaritsa sees a tool she can use to one up the rest of the nations and especially Archons, and she has no qualms about you using her and the Fatui in turn. you both want something out of it, after all. whether you just want to be safe from the rest of the acolytes, or you want revenge, or whatever else..she'll give you the power to fulfill it, and she gains the strongest piece on the chessboard when all is said and done.

the best way i can describe the first meeting is "practical", i suppose. she sees an opportunity in you. the ultimate gamble. because if she "saves" you, and you dont trust anyone else because they tried to kill you, well..she holds all the cards, doesn't she?

but the Tsaritsa, imo, is just as capable of being just as fanatical towards you as anyone else. she just won't worship you as the creator. but as yourself? clawing your way back to your divine power and taking back what belongs to you? the Tsaritsa is, to me, a character who's character flourishes in long-term fics more because she changes a LOT between "just met reader" and after having been with reader for some time. she's practically apathetic at the beginning but a lot of her character, in my characterization, shines through LONG after the first meeting.

En Garde Chapter 13 - Balestra is up

Posting a day early as im going to be super busy tomorrow packing for a trip and might not have time.

summary:

Zara Renata had been in the Diamond, and the cameras had been tampered with. While investigating the maintenance room more closely, Heir and Chance discover something that could endanger everyone. With the opening ceremony mere hours away, can Lucanis convince his cousin that Zara isn't who she claims to be? Will the recovered footage be enough to convince him of her guilt? Can they stop her from destroying all they hold dear before it's too late?

"You know I should be getting paid for all these favours I keep doing for you," Viago smirks right back. "If you can figure out what they have found, I'll consider it." Spite grins and winks at Lucanis before heading for the stairwell. "Stay here, I will call you as soon as we know something." Viago then follows after Spite.

Lucanis lets out a tense sigh. "Why was Zara here last night?" Altara asks, standing in front of him, and he shrugs. "I don't know, whatever it is, it can't be good, Illario wasn't with her, she came with someone else, I'm worried." He begins to pace, he was not exactly on speaking terms with Illario right now.

The last time he had tried to convince Illario of Zara's wrongdoing doing he had shut down the conversation and refused to speak with him unless he had to. Had Zara done something to Illario? Usually, they were always together, was that why she had shown up without him? had she disposed of him so he wouldn't interfere?

Altara gaze softens, Lucanis was to kind hearted for his own good sometimes, Illario had been nothing but an asshole to him recently yet he still cared about him, he was family after all. she supposed she understood, she had her share of arguments with Viago but she would move hell and earth if someone tried to hurt him, he was all she had left.

"You should call him, you have evidence this time, maybe he will listen" He nods, then makes the call, he waits for a moment and winces when Illario picks up. "Listen to me please, don't hang up, this is important. Where were you in the Cantori Diamond last night?" He listens for a moment and sighs.

"Just answer the damn quistion, please." He pinches the bridge of his nose. There must have been something in his tone of voice because Illario finally relented and answered his question. "Well, Zara was here last night, and before you jump down my throat, I have proof." He listens. "Come to the diamond, if she is with you. Don't speak a word of this to her, make an excuse to leave, I will explain when you get here."

He grits his teeth. "Cousin, please, you could be in danger." He closes his eyes. "I will meet you in the Foyer." He hangs up and swallows. This was becoming a bigger headache than he anticipated.

"Is he coming?" He nods. "Yes, but he isn't happy about it. I just hope the screenshot is enough to convince him." She hugs him and he freezes in surprise, unused to public displays of affection whilst in the Diamond. He smiled, curling his arms around her. he stared across the foyer to the stairwell and frowned. he hopes Spite can figure out what the hell was going on, he had a sinking feeling in his gut.

both of them can hold themselves together typically regardless of how intense sex gets with the others, but together i feel like there's just too much history. if janus is too slow with virgil, kissing his neck and resting his cheek against virgils back, they both end up teary eyed. and if virgil is too rough with janus, taking out his bitterness in each rough thrust, the same thing happens. and they both rush to take care of the other, feeling some semblance of closeness and intimacy that comes with wiping the sweat from each others faces and rubbing ointment into scratches. but theyre not ready to properly talk about it. not yet

Trying to word what Ena and Spite's relationship is to me is so weird bc like. Too platonic to be romantic and too romantic to be platonic. What do you call it when a spirit bends the rules of their nature to love you? Spite is Determination, and he is determined to love Rook but is he in love? Can a spirit be in love? They can grasp and long for the concept (as justice does in awakening) but when they themselves feel it is it the same as a mortal would?

It rly is depressing how Seb's perception of himself has been so deeply damaged by the emotional neglect/abuse he experienced growing up.

He knows it was wrong and he'll carry that anger and bitterness to his grave, but the scars are so pervasive that he subconsciously continues that treatment on himself.

Like theyre both so candid but explain everything so thoroughly while also having such soothing voices I could listen to them speak all day.
