So a long while ago I read a really good (I think?) fanfiction and I can’t find it again. It’s either not from Ao3 or the story got deleted because it’s not in my bookmarks and it would be. So let’s see if the Tumblr hive mind can help based on what I remember.

It’s a Steve Rogers/Loki fic but I don’t think there was smut. Loki shows up and Tony thinks he’s dead so in prepping the body he asks Steve’s help to get this shard of something out of Loki’s head. In pulling the piece out he helps activate Loki’s healing but they don’t know that and Thor mourns for several days. There’s something about Steve drawing Loki. I’m pretty sure they put Loki on trial in Asgard and see his memories and see how he’s been under mind control for far longer than anyone would have guessed. I distinctly remember the guy that puts him under saying, “this usually works” or whatever the line Loki says to Tony when the scepter hits Tony’s arc reactor because I thought it was a cool momentary nod/link.

So. Hive mind. Any clues?

"Well, I do feel better now that you're here." (Half-sarcasm for Steve? 👀 perhaps AU where HYDRA kidnapped Loki and Steve has found him secured in an underground lab?)

Rogers stood blinking, hesitating in the otherwise empty holding cell. He gave a tentative glance around, as if he were expecting something to spring out at him because Loki was merely a distraction. But if that was the case than the main threat had missed it's dramatic queue. It seemed to be just the two of them.

Steve lowered his shield just a tad as he took in the sight of the god trapped on the other side of the glowing cell wall. It was humming with what the captain guessed was so intensely high voltage of energy. Whether it was to keep Loki in or to keep everything else out he was unsure but it seemed to be doing it's job.

"You have to be kidding me." he sighed, more to himself than the man before him. "If this is Fury's idea of a joke..."

He moved another step towards the glowing wall between him and the Asgaurdian.

"Let me take a wild guess...you tried to make a deal with HYDRA and it horribly backfired on you?" A small smirk from the blonde. "You know you and Thor both have the same knack for getting yourselves involved in things you shouldn't."

The Avengers 2012 era was the best time ever in the fandom

Thor loves pop tarts, Clint lived in the vents, Bruce and Tony did science together, Steve was the mom friend of the team and did art in his free time, Natasha was cool aunt of the team, Loki was there too and a bunch of other characters like Peter, Sam, Bucky, Vision and Wanda all lived in the Avengers tower together

It was a much simpler time where everyone in the fandom was chill and having fun together
