I just saw someone point out that the first letters of the Lost Books (Chosen, Infidel, Renegade, Chaos, Lunatic and Elyon) spell "circle" and my mind is blown! I never noticed that before!

"...you serve fear. You think it will save you, but fear can't save you. Only love can, and God is love. You can choose the light, which shows itself as love, or you can choose darkness, which shows itself as fear. Not both." - from The Girl Behind the Red Rope, by Ted Dekker and Rachelle Dekker

Besides mine? *chuckles* Just kidding just kidding.
Ummm, that’s a hard one because I like quite a few of them. I think one of them would be A Study in Scarlet by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and another one would be Adam by Ted Dekker. That one’s not really for the faint of heart, lemme tell ya that.

In My Opinion of Ted Dekker
In My Opinion,Ted Dekker is one of the best Christian fiction authors today.
In my opinion, Ted Dekker is one of the best Christian fiction authors today. His books always keep me riveted. I have never read a book by Ted Dekker that I didn’t like. More than that, though, he always weaves some sort of biblical truth woven into his stories. This is especially true of his series- Beyond the Circle. The first book is The 49th Mystic came out in May 2018 and the second book,…

Oh, I'm glad you brought up Ted Dekker actually. I was going to ask about him but thought I sent enough questions at the time lol. I saw a lot of his books on your shelf and I'm kinda intrigued. What kind of novels does he write? Which would you recommend to a newbie of his work? Tbh, and I know this is so judgy, but from his last name I get this weird impression he writes horror. Horror and I don't get along very well 😭
Also Mark Greaney too. I recognize that name from a recommendation list you gave, I think. Something called the Gray Man series? What's that about? How long is it and is it finished?
Sorry, bombarding you with even more questions but I can't help it 😂
-Book Anon
LOOOOOOOL okay welllllllllll...you're not that far off? Ted Dekker's forte is the suspense/thriller genre, and he can get pretty intense with it. But he also writes action/adventure/fantasy as well. He writes for adults and young adults too, and the young adult books are definitely not as intense.
If you choose to look into his work, I recommend looking more into the YA stuff. I've yet to read it, but I've heard the And They Found Dragons series is really good. I've read The Lost Books series which is a fantasy series, and I enjoyed it. Any of his YA books should be safe.
There's also a stand-alone novel I recommend called Blink of an Eye. It's a romance, action/adventure book that has a really fascinating premise. It's been a while since I read it, but I think it's more chill than anything else that's not YA that I could suggest.
Mark Greaney is an action writer as well, and he has some stand alone books (at least one anyway) I've yet to read, but his series is The Gray Man series, following an American assassin named Court Gentry, the most unlucky lucky dude I've ever met in my life. He's incredibly skilled and knowledgeable and ends up in a lot of situations he has to get out of.
The Netflix movie of the same name is based on the first book which I highly recommend watching. The series is very fast paced and lots of fighting and lots of curse words in case you're not into that, you need to know. The series has maybe 13 books now? Still going as far as I know. I'm about to start book four.

Elyon Book Review
Tumblr media
Elyon by Ted Dekker
Read: August 9, 2022 - January 29, 2023
It took me forever to finish this one because I got tired of it right from the beginning and put it in my bathroom to read while I was in there...then didn’t read it. So it sat there for a while, until I found it behind a drawer when it wouldn’t close. I still didn’t enjoy it though. It was still as whiny as the previous book when Johnis was being possessed and everything just seemed to just drag on. I will say that toward the end it did get better, ironically, as soon as he wasn’t possessed anymore. Then it was over. I’m just glad it is over now and don’t have any other ones. I guess I’ll just stay away from the teen novels.

top 5 books!
I have a quite large range of genres I enjoy reading so this was hard for me to just pick five 😭
His name was wren by rob winters
I read this book when I was visiting family and my cousin let me borrow it because I was bored, I honestly didn’t expect to fall in love with it like I did, I read the whole thing in 2 days, it’s part of a trilogy, the third one is still in progress of being written
The uglies series by Scott westerfeld
I was introduced to this series by my older sister, I was confused by seeing her so enthralled by these books because she’s never been much of a reader so I gave them a try and fell in love, it gave me a new perspective on how I veiw things
The dark matter series by Teri Terry , specifically the first one ‘contagion’
I have always had a love for dystopian, apocalyptic, science fiction books and this book did not disappoint! I have only read the first two out of the three and the first one is by far my favorite so far, i heavily recommend this series if you enjoy those type of genres
The golden hour by Margaret Wurtele
this book is very different then my other books, it’s a historical fiction, historical romance novel, it’s set in the summer of 1944 in Tuscany during world war 2. This was very different from books that I would normally read but as soon as I picked it up a finished it the same day, I read this book back in like 2014? And I have reread it multiple times since then.
And now to the last book, well books , it’s by far my favorite!
The hollow series by Jessica verday
this series is just beautifully done, my favorite will always be the first one ‘the hollow’ just because of how nostalgic it is for me. I read this book when I was young and I knew nothing about it, I didn’t read the description or nothing. So I was heavily surprised at everything as I read it. I learnt a lot of what I enjoy reading and writing from this series, and I will forever recommend it!! there is 509 pages and I read it in less than 24 hours, I rememberer being under my blanket with my flashlight as I read it all night long. I recommend this book the most!!
An honorable mention is . . .
Kiss by Ted dekker and Erin Healy
All I have to say is go read this right now!! I didn’t expect anything in the book to happen, it was one twist after another and I loved it, it’s a great book!
I’m rereading this and omg I really just geeked out about books 😭 haha I’m just really passionate about them! and I’m realizing that mostly all of these are just series, I had to refrain from putting the twilight and lord of the rings series in my top 5 even tho they are very high on my list! I’ve read so many books this was so hard so I picked the most impactful books for me ig :3

What's your favorite book?
that's a hard one! skin by ted dekker was the first adult thriller i read when i was a teenager and it stuck with me ever since, so for sentimental purposes i suppose i would say it's my favorite. however, i feel like my favorite book fluctuates every year. my fave reads from this year are the only one left by riley sager, not her daughter by rea frey (this one fucked me up), and the ballerinas by rachel kapelke dale, which is one i re-read because it was that good, and i rarely reread books

So, I was thinking today about the Land from which the Shadows Fall, and I suddenly realized how similar it was in concept to the "True Narnia." By which I mean that even in Fairy Land, we can only see the shadows of the Land from which the Shadows Fall, we only have hints of the wonders that exist there, and so too Narnia is only a shadow of the True Narnia. And to reach the Land from which the Shadows Fall the children have to search deeper into Fairy Land, and to find the True Narnia one must go "further up and further in".
And this all makes sense because both of these lands are the same... symbolically, at least. They are both metaphors for Heaven and how we should be seeking it actively... longing for it. I remember that Ted Dekker once wrote that the early church longed for Heaven and unity with God passionately, and he referred to our modern apathy towards it as "The Slumber of Christianity."
I don't know where I was going with any of this... other than just a reminder that this world is but a pale reflection of what Heaven is. We can only see the shadows of it from here. We tend to think of Heaven in somewhat boring terms, but this is a place made by the Creator. We artists and writers are creators because we are shadows of The Creator, and just look at how amazing our worlds are that we create! How much better must Heaven be, when it is made by the Creator of Creators, the Author of Authors, the one from whom all creativity is born? And not just made by him, because this world also has that boast, but made by him for those he loves and who love him!
Do you also feel it? Do you feel the tug to go further up and further in, to seek the Land from which the Shadows Fall?

In the world of reading, the Nancy Drew books would've been my first crush. My gateway drug. And then my first serious romance would've been the Lord of the Rings. Gah!! Nothing tickled my grey matter like those works did. I had a few flings; The Screwtape Letters (C.S. Lewis ( did you know that he was best friends with Tolkien?? I need a writer friend like that)), House (Ted Dekker), Wild Magic ( Tamera Pierce (I may have a lady crush on this woman) ), and of course Lili St. Crow.
Because of all the trauma that's semi-related to all my book consumption escaping realism (I promise I do love reading, just to read. Well, now I do) I can't really remember many books from the ages of 13-29. The most recent book I read was Good Omens. It wasn't mind shattering but I really enjoyed it. So.....uh...
Recommendations?
Also, a little funny about LotR
