The current state of US copyright laws, like a lot of the rest of US law, has been bungled into a mess that mostly benefits companies, you are correct on that point. However, as I said in my first reply, copyright law actually IS in its current BECAUSE of companies, which, yes, then allows them to continue and become worse. Copyright laws USED to be much more limited both in scope or duration and were primarily to protect the artist, but companies like Disney wanted their intellectual property to never become public domain so they pushed and bribed their way into having the laws changed to allow that. Copyright as a CONCEPT is a good thing. Not being able to protect your intellectual property at all would also be devastating to creative expression in the long term.

I feel like the aftg fandom has just swung hard from one mischaracterization of Neil to another.

Yes, Neil is not an innocent little soft-boy like a lot of fans made him out to be pre-TSC, but he isn't some cold, calculated badass either.

He took out a hit on Grayson over Thai food. He doodles fox paws in his notebooks and hates vegetables. He insults FBI agents' parking jobs and he spent a bus ride staring over the back of his seat making heart eyes at his boyfriend. He manipulated the agents while eating takeout in the interrogation room. He canonically internally panics and overthinks the entire time he's attempting to manipulate anyone. He uses people's family trauma to manipulate them. He misses his mom.

I love all the fluff and sweet fics I see of Bob/Robert, BUT I RAISE YOU THIS:

Gimme a scene where they’re bickering back and forth in the kitchen and he looks up at reader and flashes his eyes that Gold color that IMMEDIATELY sends reader into flight or fight mode.

I want them to start off not being able to stand each other to EVENTUALLY realizing that maybe their “Hate” is actually a unique way of love for their fucked up brains.

Don’t get me wrong, I love how sweet and genuine and anxious of a person he is perceived as, but I feel like we lowkey forget he not only was a former Addict, but also had previous run ins with the law??? I love the fics but sometimes I feel like people forget that two things can be true at once. YES he’s a sweet and wholesome man, and YES he is a former criminal and addict that had probably done a number of things he’s not proud of.

I like thinking about the fact that from the start, kdj’s first supporters were basically the four corners of the Star Stream. Good, evil, neutral, and something else entirely. And that throughout the story, kdj stuck his fingers into enough pies that by the end of everything he simultaneously belonged to none of those spectrums and all of them at once. He was a star who had been good, evil, and then something completely separate from the stories. Ofc I know that no matter what his star pointed towards neutrality (pointedly looking at the banquet of good and evil arc or whatever the fuck it’s called)but it’s lowkey funny to think about how gacha-like this man is. He’s everything but nothing at once. He was a member of the absolute evil system who ultimately chose good, someone who was loved by an archangel yet deceived the people close to him at will, and a man that could be incredibly preferential despite presenting himself as the second coming of Jeon Ildo. He can turn into an angel. He has devil horns… his eyes literally turn red.

Anyways this is all nothing new nor is it a genius revelation about the themes of Orv but I wanted to yap

Chuuya's reaction to Dazai getting hurt during the Lovecraft fight has always been so interesting to me...

Because it's the kind of worry you'd never expect from a character as gruff as Chuuya, who had displayed nothing but hostility towards Dazai so far. Usually, characters that are labelled as "angry" or "anger issues" (which Chuuya is much more complex than that but you get my point) act more as a tsundere type of way when the one they "don't care about" gets hurt. And show their care in very, very subtle ways (ex. their eyes widen, their mouth parts and closes again, etc) before putting up their front once more.

Chuuya, however, is open, and vocal about it. His worry is clear not only to us, but to Dazai himself, the one he shouldn't be displaying the concern to (as per the cliche). Shouldn't it be some sort of secret that Chuuya does care? Isn't that what skk's dynamic has been shaping up to be until now?

I'm telling you- the way my mind blanked when Chuuya just casually.... showed concern not once, but twice, was a sight to see.

Besides, the context makes it much more confusing, because Dazai isn't some rookie, and Chuuya knows that more than anybody. He was the youngest executive in Port Mafia's history, of course he can handle a hit or two. Of course he'd seen him handle a hit or two, sometimes without batting an eye.

Heck, Chuuya himself was hurling Dazai like a ragdoll in their reunion, which was their last meeting. And you could argue that he was going easy on him, but Dazai has mostly withstood the same damage (as far as I could see), and Chuuya was as bitter as ever.

So that kind of contradicts both what we knew of Chuuya so far, and how their dynamic was shaped to be. I mean, that just makes Chuuya a hypocrite, yeah? What makes him care now, all of a sudden? What makes him care at all?

Well, to me, this backasswards reaction implies one (or more) of the following:

- Dazai rarely got physically hurt during their partnership and thus this is an unexpected thing for him to see (during a mission).

- The four years of separation made Chuuya unsure of how much Dazai can withstand physically now. Also the fact that he isn't in the mafia anymore, aka fighting enemy organizations on the weekly, would naturally make Dazai lose his touch in a way, what prompts Chuuya's reaction.

- Dazai getting taken off guard took him off guard which led to panic. Especially since the situation was (momentarily) out of their depth. Seriously wtf even was Lovecraft?

- During the dungeon scene Dazai was an enemy, while in the Lovecraft fight he was as an ally. The difference might be significant to Chuuya.

- This has always been Chuuya's reaction to Dazai getting hurt regardless of the situation.

- "Only I can hurt him like that" ahh logic

- Asagiri was still experimenting with their dynamic and thus there are some inconsistencies.

This scenario didn't play out again (after their reunion) for me to exactly determine which one is more plausible, but it is 100% canon for Chuuya to shamelessly show his concern and run to Dazai to check on him before properly dealing with their opponent, which I find to be such an appealing layer to their dynamic, and a good spin on the type of character he gets stereotyped as.

Bonus: Dazai also becomes a softy when Chuuya's hurt, especially post corruption. Dead Apple alone displays that multiple times.

All in all, Skk are doing a terrible job at maintaining their 'hostile' and 'antagonistic' relationship post their reunion. Freaks.

So this is just a deep dive behind all the stuff I put in my last post I rolled back my picture before I did all the lighting and color changes to make certain details more visible. Fun fact I almost scrapped this whole picture at this stage because A. I was just burned out; this piece took me forever. B. As I kept getting more and more "neat" ideas to stuff in, I lost any real focal point, especially with the color scheme. After hours of trying to fix it in PS and failing, I was about to give up. I was like fuck it make it a night scene. Let me tell you all a world of lighting makes lol.

Anyways, enough about my struggles, let me give you the tour.

I love the idea that this corkboard was originally Phoenix's mood board in the beginning it just had his childhood pics from like the yearbook and that one time Larry got a polaroid camera. Then, a new year clipping about Edgeworth being Demon Prosecutor which led Phoenix to make his thesis about court drawings just so he could watch and see with his two eyes how much Edgeworth changed. - Then, later, he added Mia because she was his mentor. then Vinny (from the movie "My Cousin on Vinny") because like Vinny, Phoenix never understands court procedure but has very good instincts; and last Elle Woods who also went to law school for a boy basically his spirit lawyer lol. - Later, after Maya joined, she thought it would be funny to replace Phoenix's real reason to Steel Samurai. Also, it was fun because Will Powers was their client, so he should be their reason. Phoenix let them stay because it made Maya happy, and Phoenix knew that with Mia's death, she needed it. - I was going to add a sticky note from Miles that he approved, but I do like that Miles will never admit out loud or in writing that he enjoys the show. - A year later, Pearls tries to replace all the Steel Samurais with her drawings of Maya. Which Phoenix encouraged her to make during Maya's disappearance because facts. - Tid Bit: I was sad to cover up Will Powers' signature I really liked how it came out

Moving away from the mood board idea, I like that the cork board just became Phoenix's catch all. So his Law Degree which isn't the original it's just a sad printed-out version of what should've been his fancy embossed one. I like the idea that Phoenix never went to graduation. (Can't be bothered he's on a mission to save his childhood bff.)

Lastly are postcards from Edgeworth, his way of making up for all the years he couldn't write back to young Phoenix. - Also, this picture takes place some time after the 3rd game but before the disbarment.

I spent a frustrating amount of time trying to figure out the logistics of this paper trail. It really doesn't need to make sense It just has to make the room messier. - You can imagine Phoenix is looking over phone records or court stenographer's record.

So Edgeworth is a nerd; we all know this. But it annoys me just a tad that his nerd-isum is always just Steel Samurai (like I get it, it's canon), but all geeks have many fandom loves, okay. - So I just love the idea that Phoenix and Edgeworth (who are in a relationship at the time of this pic ) watch Better Call Saul, and they both bought each other a little plushie of the character they joke is them. -Edgeworth bought Saul for Phoenix (because of Saul's heart, not because he does shady practices), And Phoenix bought Kim (because she a really good lawyer who seems cold and is a workaholic who would break the rules for their Saul (used phoenix's badge in the third game )) - They keep each other's plushies in their offices, and if one of them stops by when the other isn't in, they put a sticky note on it. - Which we can see that Phoenix did need reminding because, as you can see, the date is 18th, and no mention of a dinner ;)

7. Now the whole reason I drew this picture was too show off my headcanon that Phoenix has a Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law action figure that you know Gumshoe got him after Edgeworth vs. State happen because of Polly. And we all know that man would be a fan of old Hanabara cartoons. - I've loved this stupid tid-bit of a headcanon that it's been haunting me for years. It’s okay, and encouraged even, to make and create things that (maybe) only you’ll like. You need to feed the creativity, appeal to your id in a way that literally no one else can. Allow yourself to be a little self indulgent without expectation, especially in this hellscape world.

And also, you’re allowed to be sad if, in sharing that work, it doesn’t receive good feedback, or even little to none. It can feel very personal, especially with things close to heart like that. It doesn’t make you a bad, selfish, or arrogant person. Just remember that social media nowadays is unkind to artists for a variety of reasons, and don’t let yourself get caught up in the numbers game. Lots of likes+reblogs+shares etc. ≠ worth, don’t chase that rabbit.

I know there’s no high like validation, and that it’s hard to create when it feels like presenting to a void, but you’ve gotta create for you at the end of the day. Create for kid you, for teenage you, for the you who hasn’t shown up yet. Don’t let the internet, other people, or the world take that from you.

Keep doing what you want to do, not what you think will be popular or well-received. There’s folks out there who will love it, sometimes it takes time for them to find it.
