The Bad Tension™️

I saw a post on autistic meltdowns and it didn’t address something, so I wanted to ask a question to the autistic community. Do you get The Bad Tension™️ when you have a meltdown?

Bc I get it when I feel both overstimulated and understimulated, but when I feel understimulated, stimming helps. When I’m overstimulated, I end up having a full-on meltdown.

The Bad Tension™️ sits under my skin and the best way I can describe it is like when you have a buildup of lactic acid, except it feels nothing like that. If I don’t stim, it makes me feel so uncomfortable, and so I pace or flap or stretch my arms out to get rid of it. When I have a meltdown, I end up aggressively stimming or hitting myself in an attempt to get rid of it and I’m not entirely in control anymore.

I have an autistic friend who says that she also experiences this so I was wondering if it was a universal experience or not? Is there an actual name for this sensation?

Hi Anna!!! I have a question for you. I came across a gifset of 6x09, the phone call where Buck tells Hen, Chim, and Eddie about the baby. Eddie sure didn't stick around for that conversation! He's visibly a bit bothered by it, but he doesn't say anything. And I think that's because he's trying not to steer Buck in any direction now like previous events, but I just think he has SOMETHING to say about it! Anyway, do you think he would bring it up at any point and would it create problems for Buddie?

Okay, long story short: unless the baby becomes a thing that's actively harming Buck, I don't think Eddie is gonna say anything. It's done, the baby exists, he is not a possibility, he is an actual human out in the world so whatever feelings he may have about whether or not that was a good idea don't matter, because he's not an idea anymore. And even if we end up with buddie and somehow that kid becomes a conversation topic, it's not Eddie's place to say Buck shouldn't have done it, and he knows it, I think that's why he acts the way he acts towards it, he knows it's not his place. I can see Eddie snapping if it becomes something that's creating problems for Buck that he refuses to acknowledge but using it to create problems between them would be just stirring up drama with the least interesting thing they could pull from the deck of buddie drama, because Eddie would never actively try to hurt Buck more by bringing this kid into the conversation.

And regarding the whole thing while the baby is still just a concept, Eddie likes to push against the line of thought Buck is trapped in, sometimes because he's actually about to give some solid advice, sometimes maybe just because he's testing how set on this way Buck is. He only found out about the donation once it was a done deal, Buck had a lot of time to sit and think about it by the time he finds out, considering Eddie finds out right as Buck is about to make the donation, and Buck never goes to him to talk about that, so even though is pretty clear he thinks Buck is making a mistake, Buck never asked for his opinion while it would change anything, so he just ignores whatever concerns he may have.

I think Eddie has a better perspective on what being a parent means to Buck than Hen does because while we like to say the whole team knows, we don't really have that many scenes with Buck and Chris with the whole crew, so Eddie is really the only one watching Buck be a parent on a regular basis, and the question Hen asks, the "can you be a father and walk away" is the real thing that could create problems because one, Eddie is a father who walked away, he went to war and he did come back, but even he admits he ran when he was in the army, and two because he's been watching Buck not walk away for years, so he knows if Buck gets too involved, he's not gonna be able to walk away, and that's the concern I think. Sure, there's the fear that Buck is just believing the whole "they had me for parts" and is giving away even more of himself, and problems that the donation could bring for Buck on a bigger scale, but I think specifically with 6x09, Eddie is listening to Buck refer to himself as a father to a child he will have no involvement raising and he's worried Buck is gonna crash from that too hard if he keeps thinking about it the way he is, but he also thinks Buck doesn't want his opinion, because he never asked, and now the baby is real, so he backs away.

You felt your heartbeat quicken in your chest. Only shallow breaths were made from your lungs as they passed through your parted lips. You wanted to screw your eyes shut, but you forced them to remain open.

If you closed them, Wednesday would only lurch forward like a starved animal. 

"Not with you," your jaw clenched, tension stiffening your body like you had gone through rigor mortis. 

Wednesday didn't seem to mind your biting words or tone as she leaned closer. You felt like a wounded fawn as you were trapped between the wall and Wednesday's body, and her arms trapped you on either side of you.

You could smell everything that was Wednesday Addams, an invasion you were helpless to resist. The scent of old books and rain hits you like a relapse that makes you want to crumble to your knees.

And Wednesday knows it. 

"Then you wouldn't have been so stupid to be caught under the mistletoe with me."

Wednesday's words are always vindictive, even if her tone is not. They ring in your ear because as desperate as you were to not understand her, you did. She's angry with you, but—she craves you.

But the thing about Wednesday Addams is that she's a stranger to all these feelings. She hates every part of feeling them, and she hates you for making her experience it. In her endeavor to not be like her mother, you're the pages she's torn out of her book. 

And you just can't be that—you can't. Not for Wednesday.

Not when—

"You're the one who said this was ill-advised," you reminded Wednesday. "When I asked you to go to the Yule Fest, you're the one who said no."

"Because I don't want to go to some repulsive, colorful festival," Wednesday raised her brow at you. 

"But you want to kiss me under the mistletoe?"

Wednesday's jaw clenched—the way it did whenever she was forced to acknowledge her feelings for you. God, you were annoying. 

"I'm done with the no-string-attached kisses," you shake your head at Wednesday. "Unless you're going to agree to go on a date with me, I'll refrain from participating in this tradition with you."

"It's bad luck to forgo tradition," Wednesday rebutted without missing a beat. 

You scoffed. "You always have an excuse, don't you?"

"It can't be helped that my synapses are superior."

"Wednesday—"

"Fine, I'll go to the nauseating Yule Fest with you."

Your mouth snapped shut, and you eyed Wednesday's impassive face with suspicion. 

"Really?"

"What? You think I'm a liar?"

You rolled your eyes. "I think you'll come up with any reason for us to kiss."

"I wouldn't have to if you would cease from coming up with any reason for us not to."

You then wondered why you liked Wednesday so much as you stared at her expressionless face. She was so—

You huffed and admitted, "I hate the way you pick and choose when you want me."

"I always want you."

And it was the first time Wednesday had ever admitted something within that realm of feelings.

"You think I'm always trying to come up with excuses to kiss you," Wednesday's jaw clenched, and you felt her fists next to your arms close into tight balls. "But because you're just as obstinate as me, I'm also trying to come up with reasons why you shouldn't stop kissing me."

Fuck, you cursed, swallowing the lump in your throat. Vices were a dangerous, dangerous thing, and this was going to be your worst relapse yet.

And just like that, you lifted your hands to pull Wednesday closer. One hand slid against her jaw before cupping the back of her neck while the other gripped her shirt desperately. 

The kiss was bruising—the kind Wednesday liked. 

Soft.

And warm.

You were always a little surprised, no matter how many times you kissed Wednesday, how soft and warm her lips were. 

The way Wednesday wrapped her arms around you, pulling you closer to her, always made you feel like you were one step away from oblivion. 

That was probably her plan every time.

"Why are you like this?" You mumbled between kisses.

"Wednesday is full of woe," Wednesday muttered before she pressed her lips against you insistently. 

It was devastating how she constantly found herself reluctantly eating the words she told her mother the first day she arrived at Nevermore. 

"Don't I know it," you replied, and Wednesday pulled back for just a moment to see your face as you said it. The way your eyes glistened with mischief and your playful smirk had her consuming your lips again. 

Wednesday's not sure whose idea it was to kiss under poisonous berries, but it was quite romantic.

When the two of you decide you've made out under the mistletoe long enough (not because it was enough, but Wednesday was sure she heard a door opening upstairs), you grinned lightly at her.

"We should wear the matching snoods Enid made us at the Yule Fest."

"Don't push it."

There’s just something about close friends who are destined to be enemies with intense psychosexual tension. Who spend all their time looking at each other Like That™️. You seem to draw Donnie covered in Spray paint (pink and blue) a lot. Why is that? What got him hooked to it and why doesnt he have to mix the colors himself?

Draxum’s lab is pretty dull color wise, and Three wanted to differentiate his tech from Draxum’s. Huginn and Muninn are the ones who buy Three his spray paints! One of those small, nice things they try to do to make the kid a little bit happy. Purple is Three’s favorite color, but sometimes they’re limited in what they can bring him. (Also the pink and blue colors are a nod to Jinx—It’s kinda funny that her colors, pink and blue, when mixed, make purple)

It would be maximum shock if they all met right when Leo and Donnie rejoined the family, before they kinda started their healing process, cause they’re probably the most different at that point.

Rise!Donnie would be appalled at AU!Donnie, from silly things like the way he accumulates layers of grime without a care—to the rude way he treats April. AU!Leo and Rise!Leo would keep a wide birth from each other and probably stick to a buddy system with their respective brothers just in the hopes that they don’t ever get left alone with the other (their bros of course conspire to do exactly that, so they can get to know each other)

Rise!Raph would probably be really worried about AU!Raph just cause he thought his brother’s make him stressed and tired? But between dealing with Leo’s anger issues, and Donnie’s…everything, AU!Raph looks ready to drop any second. AU!Mikey would love Rise!Mikey, cause he’s adorable, but he’s a little sad when he looks at him, cause he acts just like he used to, before he was thrown into the arena, so he tries to tone down the bad and make it sound more exciting so that Rise!Mikey doesn’t know how horrible AU!Mikey had it.

The Kraang would def be the Rise Kraang version. The movie would take place a little while after the defeat the Shredder. I’m still working out the timeline cause when I was first deciding their ages, I forgot about the two years from the end of the series and the start of the movie 🙄. So I’m doing some reworking on that end. I think I’ll either change them to be a few years older at the start of the AU than I made them, OR the AU and the fight with Shredder will go for a longer stretch of time than it did in the series. That way there’s not a huge two year gap of unknown time between Shredder’s defeat to the start of the movie. EDIT Now that we know the series took place over two years and it was only a couple months between the finale and the movie. Their ages are gonna be the ones listed on their character charts!!

I’m still not even sure if I’ll manage to make it that far, but hopefully we will get there eventually! Cause I really wanna get to Casey. In fact, I’d probably make it less about Leo growing into a more serious role (cause obviously he’s already there), and more about him really accepting the love of his family. We might even see a future Leo come back with Casey?? It would be so hard not to go that route cause I love that idea so much 🤣

But I honestly don’t know yet what I’d really like to do. And I’d hate to give an answer that I’d have to redact later. I’ve got a lot of ideas, but I can’t even think about them, until I put out all the other stuff I’ve got planned. So let’s all cross our fingers and hope we get there some day lol!

2012!Leo would go MOM MODE™️ EXTREME, 2012!Raph and Don would take off like a rocket with the intention of hunting down and murdering Draxum, Shredder and Big Mama, and Mikey would probably be caught between holding back tears and doing his best to tell jokes and ease the tension, or following after his brothers in their murder spree.

Basically as much as the 2012 boys would be thrown off at first over how different the AU boys are from the other versions of themselves they’ve met, they’d go HARD as the protective older bros. But the only one who’d probably actually appreciate it would be AU!Raph cause he never gets to be the little brother lol.

I've embarked on something overambitious again! 😃 I'm 85k words and 20-ish chapters in on my gdrive - enough to dare to start posting before pride month is over. (trans angel trans angel trANS ANGEL—)

It's a supernatural murder mystery/ineffable husbands romance/love letter to the City of Aberdeen/project to besmirch every building of my alma mater. Crowley and Aziraphale are human (and subtly different from their "regular" selves—but that's for readers to wonder about and characters not to notice, yet) and meet as academics. Cue bickering and romantic tension. Then, someone is found murdered on a summoning circle.

The bloody man… was… cute. He was cute, and damn him to hell. Anthony Crowley didn’t like cute. He didn’t even like people. Crowley had barely looked twice at another man in a decade. He’d already given that part of himself up as a bad job at about the same time that he abandoned his last attempt at making friends. He just wasn’t a friendly sort—he had too many sharp edges, too little patience, and too much of a penchant for rubbing people the wrong way for sport. But then here came this waistcoated, tartan brolly, sarcastic eyebrow, bitten-back smirk, Doctor-of-Information-Sciences oddity, strolling right into his lecture theatre where he didn’t even want to be, and all of a sudden Anthony J. Crowley, doctor of mathematics and advanced bastardry, found himself improvising a class about the very core of mathematics and trying to sodding impress. It was embarrassing, really.

Okay I'm popping my thoughts under a keep reading / tagging spoilers!

Thank you for indulging me because I have THOUGHTS ™️

So:

I really really Really loved the cinematography of this movie. Like there were certain scenes that I was just "yessss" to the lighting, the shot, all of it. I loved how they framed the flashback sequences in the smaller/older film style. I loved the title sequence. Just overall, a lot of the movie making things about it I was literally the 👌👌 emojis for the entirety of the film.

I really thought they cast it well, I did think Nicholas Cage was great, I just think he could have been much scarier/terrorizing. Especially after hearing he said he never wanted to do a role like this again because it was so creepy? I was like...sir. This is scratching the surface of creepy. I also don't know if I would have realized it was him until I heard the voice slip a few times, which I think was great. They really did the make up/costume good 👌

But I just overall felt like the movie was over hyped to be much scarier/keep you on edge than what it was/did. Like, there were definitely moments I was a little spooked, grabbed my husband in the theater, jump scares and really good build up. But then it felt like all that tension and amping would dissipate or fall flat.

I feel like the choice to have there actually be a demon/long legs wasn't in full control/etc was a bad one. I really really wish they leaned more into the serial killer/terror/suspense aspect of him and that, more so than the horror/supernatural theme. Like what if long legs was just a Satan worshipper but he had convinced himself this was the will of the devil and he was the one actually obsessing and killing. Like he was still in control? To me that would have been far more terrifying.

ALSO, what if Long Legs still convinced the mom to help, but there was no deal with the devil, it was just how convincing he could be?

Like isn't that more terrifying? Wouldn't that make you feel more creepy? This serial killer using dolls to get into people's homes and terrorizing you, making you think you're going crazy?

I don't know! It was compared to Silence of the Lambs SO MUCH so that's why I really wish they leaned more into the FBI Agent/serial killer of it all. Because now, to me, Silence of the Lambs isn't that scary because there's more like it out there. So it would have been cool to see more of a modern/scarier take on a story like that without so much supernatural/horror elements.

So I think, overall, I liked the movie, it just wasn't what I expected, so my view of it is a little critical!

How did you feel about the ending of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver and the reveal of Magneto's letter?

I'm going to start by saying that I still think that Orlando really struggles with endings. His final issues always feel disjointed and sloppy to me, and SW&Q #4 is no exception. My main takeaway from this issue is that everything made sense in theory-- each character's positions and responses felt coherent and I perfectly understood how Orlando was characterizing each relationship-- but not in practice, as the scenario itself was harder to follow and I don't think everyone's actions made sense.

My biggest problem is understanding why Magneto would write this letter in the first place, much less keep it under his floorboards, and why, after all of the growth he went through in Red and Resurrection, he would still say those things to the twins' faces. The Griever's scheme to use the letter is clever, in terms of emotional manipulation, but Orlando does little to disguise the fact that it is a heavy-handed plot contrivance that he's using to mine Magnet Family Drama™️ in a book that otherwise has little reason to concern itself with Magneto. By comparison, the Joseph storyline in Scarlet Witch was more well integrated into the main plot and was driven by a character who was strong enough to stand on his own feet, while simultaneously facilitating conversations about Wanda and Max's relationship. This simply does not measure up to me. It feels tacked on, and the twins' abrupt, stilted reunion with Magneto himself does nothing to assuage that feeling.

Generally speaking, though, this is exactly the type of toxicity I expect from Magneto, particularly post-HoM, and post-Children's Crusade. He is overprotective to a fault towards Wanda, and resentful and dismissive towards Pietro. This has been a pretty consistent setting for their "family" dynamic for at least a decade.

I've written about this several times, but that paternalism is something Wanda has a really hard time setting boundaries around. A lot of her loved ones, including Pietro himself, have been treating her this way for a very long time. It makes perfect sense to me that she would find Magneto's words destabilizing, especially given that she is starting the series in a place of unresolved grief. I also thought it was really smart that Wanda, who, for the first time in her life has the upper hand in almost all of her relationships, is mirroring those paternalistic behaviors towards Pietro. We saw it in Scarlet Witch (2023) #1, and we saw it here in SW&Q. These flaws are crucial to balancing out Wanda's character, now that she is so powerful and evolved, and I think they've been demonstrated very well.

Similarly, I think that the twins' explosive fight in #1 was perfectly in character. To me, this felt like a more well-realized and narratively justified version of the fight from Scarlet Witch (2015) #9. A lot of the same tensions are fears are coming to a boil, but here there is a more reasonable impetus, and again, reversing Wanda and Pietro's dynamic is a great way to dig up any flaws and simmering resentments in their relationship. As fans, we want them to have a healthy, loving relationship, and I think Orlando has shown, up to this point that they do, but when we look back at their history, we can see that they do have problems. I don't think either of them is a bad sibling, but this is an area where they can be challenged and still experience satisfying growth.

And I am satisfied, because ultimately, this challenge does not break them. Although he initially allows his temper and pettiness to get the best of him, Pietro finds the patience and empathy to put their fight to rest. He falters, but ultimately, he demonstrates the same growth and self-awareness that he achieved in Quicksilver: No Surrender. I thought it was a great moment for him, and again, I love that this is a reversal in the twins' usual dynamic-- Pietro is the one doing the bulk of the emotional labor.

Wanda, for her part, hesitates more than I would like, and I really do wish that she'd been quicker to come to Pietro's defense. Most of what they're talking about here is House of M, and for all of his faults, and for as horrible as the consequences may have been, Pietro is one of the only people who consistently acted in Wanda's best interest during that time. If this scene had been given more space to breathe, or if Orlando was just a little better at grounding his dialogue, perhaps Wanda would have been able to speak and acknowledge that fact.

I think that part Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver's goal was to settle Wanda and Pietro's past with Magneto-- the same way Darkhold settled Wanda's past with Chthon and ToM settled the Decimation-- and in doing so, strengthen and refresh their relationship in a way that reflects their current maturity and growth. In a lot of ways, it succeeds, and I do think that there is some real depth and great character work here, but those things are buried under choppy pacing and dialogue. The two competing storylines-- the family drama, and the introduction of the Griever -- feel disjointed, and the expansion of Wanda and Pietro's powers gets lost in the middle. It's a shame, because setting new benchmarks for their powers and setting new benchmarks for their relationship at the same time should feel really cohesive and exciting, but for me, it falls a little flat because almost every element is just slightly underdeveloped- every idea comes just short of being fully explored.
