“You have to do what?” Nausicaa and I sat on the fire escape outside my bedroom, our feet dangling over 104th Street. Over the past few weeks, as summer wound down, the fire escape had become our happy place. And despite everything that had happened today, I was happy. It’s hard to be sad when I’m with Nausi.
I filled her in on my first day at AHS: the classes, the headaches, the unplanned field trip to the bottom of the sea. Nausicaa swung her legs—a nervous habit, like she wanted to kick away mosquitoes or pesky wind spirits.
“That’s ridiculous,” she said. “Maybe I can get my mom to write you a rec.”
Her mom was Athena, goddess of wisdom, so a college rec from her probably would have gone a long way. Unfortunately, the few times we’d met, Athena had sized me up with her piercing gray eyes like I was a deepfake.
“Your mom doesn’t like me,” I said. “Besides, my mom was pretty clear. I have to do new quests for three gods. And the requests have to come from them.”
“Ugh.”
“That’s what I said.”
Nausi fixed her gaze on the horizon, like she was looking for a solution way out in Yonkers. Do solutions come from Yonkers?
“We’ll figure it out,” she promised. “We’ve been through worse.”
I loved her confidence. And she was right. . . . We’d been through so much together already, it was hard to imagine anything we couldn’t face.
Occasionally, somebody would ask me if I’d ever dated anybody besides Nausicaa, or if I’d ever thought about dating someone else.
Honestly? The answer was no. When you’ve helped each other through Tartarus, the deepest and most horrifying place in the universe, and you’ve come out alive and stronger than you were to begin with . . . well, that isn’t a relationship you could ever replace, or should ever want to. Yeah, okay, so I wasn’t even eighteen yet. Still . . . no one knew me better, or put up with me more, or held me together as much as her, and I knew she could say the same about me—because if I were slacking as a boyfriend, she would let me know real quick.
“Maybe they’ll be small quests,” I said hopefully. “Like picking up garbage on the highway on Saturday or something. But this is an I thing and not a we thing. I don’t want to drag you into it.”
“Hey.” She rested her hand on mine. “You’re not dragging me into anything. I’m going to help you get through high school and into college with me, whatever it takes.”
“So you’ll write my essays?”
“Nice try.”
We sat in silence for a minute, our shoulders touching. We were both ADHD, but I could’ve stayed like that for hours, perfectly content, appreciating the way the afternoon sunlight glinted in Nausicaa’s hair, or the way her pulse aligned with mine when we held hands.
Her blue T-shirt was emblazoned with the gold letters SODNYC. That sounded like an insult, but it was just the name of her new high school: School of Design, New York City.
I’d asked her about her first day already. After starting to tell me about her architecture teacher and first big homework assignment, she’d abruptly cut herself off with “It was fine. What about you?” I guess she knew I would have more to tell, more problems to solve.
That didn’t seem fair to me—not because she was wrong, but because I didn’t want to put her second. The thing about great problem-solvers is that they often don’t let others help them with their own stuff.
I was getting up my nerve to ask again, to make sure no gods or monsters had visited her during her day and given her quests, when my dad called from inside. “Hey, you two. Want to help with dinner?”
“Sure, Tiresias!” Nausicaa pulled her legs up and climbed through the window. If there was anyone she liked helping more than me, it was my dad.
When we got to the kitchen, dad was chopping garlic for the stir-fry. He wore an apron one of the souls had given him for an end-of-year present.
The quote on the front read “A RECIPE IS A STORY THAT ENDS WITH A GOOD MEAL.” —PAT CONROY.
I didn’t know who that was. Probably a literary person, since Tiresias liked literature in a way. I liked the quote, though, because I liked good meals.
Nausicaa grabbed a knife. “Dibs on the broccoli.”
Tiresias grinned at her. His black hair had gotten a little longer and curlier over the summer, and he’d taken to shaving only every couple of days, so he looked, as my mom put it, “pleasantly roguish.”
“I cede the chopping board to the daughter of Athena,” he said with a little bow.
“Thank you, kind sir,” Nausicaa said, equally formal.
My mother then appeared, making me jump, but he laughed. “You two are adorable.”
Dad winked at Mom, then turned to heat up the wok. Ever since last spring, when Tiresias had tutored Nausicaa in some impossible English project, the two of them had bonded over Shakespeare, of all things, so half the time when they talked to each other, they sounded like they were acting out scenes from Macbeth.
“Alex,” my mom said, “would you set the table?”
He didn’t really need to ask, since that was my usual job. Five mismatched pastel-colored plates. I got the blue one, always. Paper napkins. Forks. Glasses and a pitcher of tap water. Nothing fancy.
I appreciated having a simple ritual like thissomething that did not involve monster-fighting, divine prophecies, or near-death experiences in the depths of the Underworld. Setting a table for dinner might sound boring to you, but when you have no downtime in your life ever . . . boring starts to sound pretty great.
My mom checked the rice cooker, then took a bowl of marinated tofu from the fridge. He hummed as she worked—some Nirvana song, I think. “Come as You Are”? From the glow on his face and the sparkle in his eyes, I could tell he was in a good place. He moved like he was floating, or about to burst into some dance moves. It made me smile just seeing him like that.
Now he and Tiresias had a good life together. And if I felt a little sad about having one foot out the door just when things were getting better, hey, that wasn’t my mom’s or Tir’s fault. They did everything they could to include me. Besides, I wanted to go to college. If I had to choose between being with Nausicaa and . . . well, anything, that was no choice at all.
Tiresias dropped a clove of garlic into the wok, which sizzled and steamed like a sneezing dragon. (And yes, I’ve seen dragons sneeze.) “I think we are ready, milady.”
“Incoming.” Nausicaa dumped the stir-fry mixture into the oil just as our doorbell rang.
“I’ll get it,” I said, and ran to let in our fifth for dinner.
As soon as I opened the door, Roselio shoved a basket of fruit into my hands. “I brought strawberries.” He blinked. “Is that tofu stir-fry?”
Osiris had followed behind him.
“Hello to you, too,” I said.
“I love tofu stir-fry!” Roselio trotted around me and made a beeline for the kitchen, because Roselio knows what’s good.
My best friend had allowed his appearance to go a little wild, which is saying something…
He wore his standard orange Camp Half-Blood shirt, and still used specially fitted tennis shoes for some reason, noisy and hard for the Mist to cover up. I guess the explanation “athleisurewear plus tap-dancing shoes” didn’t work so well.
My mom hugged Roselio and gushed over the basket of strawberries as I put them on the kitchen counter.
“They smell wonderful!” He said. “Perfect dessert!”
“Last crop of the summer,” Roselio said wistfully.
He gave me a sad smile, like he was ruminating about how this had been my last summer at camp as well. Once we graduate high school, if we live that long, most of us transition out into the regular world. The thinking is that by then, we are strong enough to fend for ourselves, and monsters tend to leave us alone because we’re no longer such easy targets. That’s the theory, anyway. . . .
“Now we have to get ready for gourd season,” Roselio continued with a sigh. “Don’t get me wrong. I love decorative gourds, but they’re not as tasty.”
My mom patted his shoulder. “We’ll make sure these berries don’t go to waste.”
The rice cooker chimed just as Tiresias turned off the burner on the stovetop and gave the steaming wok one last stir. “Who’s hungry?”
Everything tastes better when you’re eating with people you love. I remember each meal my friends and I shared in the galley on board the Argo II—even if we were mostly just chowing down on junk food between life-and-death battles. These days, at home, I tried to savor every dinner with my mom and Tir.
I spent most of my childhood moving from boarding school to boarding school, so I never had the whole family-dinner thing growing up. The few times I was home supper together had never been appealing. The only thing worse
My mom did her best. Everything she did was to protect me, every rough past just made me appreciate these times even more.
We talked about my mom’s writing. After years of dreaming and struggling, his first novel was going to be published in the spring. He hadn’t made much money on the deal, but hey, a publisher had actually paid him for his writing! He was presently wavering between elation and extreme anxiety about what would happen when his book came out.
Finally, I filled in Roselio and Osiris about my first day at school, and the three recommendation letters I was supposed to get from the gods.
A look of panic flashed across Osiris’ face, but he suppressed it quickly. He sat up straighter. “Well then, we’ll do these quests together!”
Roselio scooted back in his chair, “I’m.. good. I just wanna cook.”
“Dude-”
“Pleaseee-”
“Fine. But we’re telling you everything.” Osiris grinned.
I tried not to show how relieved I was deep down. “Os, you don’t have to—”
“Are you kidding?” He grinned at Nausicaa. “A chance to do quests, just the three of us?”
“The Powerpuff Girls,” Nausicaa suggested.
“Shrek, Fiona, and Donkey,” I said.
“Wait a minute,” Osiris said.
“I’m fine with this,” Nausicaa said.
Tiresias raised his glass. “The monsters will never know what hit them. Just be careful, you three.”
“Oh, it’ll be fine,” Roselio said, though his left eye twitched. “Besides, it always takes a while for word to get around among the gods. They’ve probably got weeks before the first request comes in!”
*screams* I LOVE THIS SO MUCH 😭😭😭😭

Understanding the Basics of PHP
Before diving into writing scripts, it’s crucial to understand the fundamentals of PHP. This section will cover the essential concepts that every beginner should know.
What is PHP?
PHP is a server-side scripting language designed primarily for web development but also used as a general-purpose programming language.
It allows developers to create dynamic content that interacts with databases and can handle user input effectively.
Why Use PHP?
Cross-Platform Compatibility: PHP runs on various platforms (Windows, Linux, macOS), making it versatile for different server environments.
Database Integration: PHP seamlessly integrates with databases like MySQL, PostgreSQL, and SQLite, allowing for efficient data management.
Open Source: Being open-source means that PHP is free to use and has a large community contributing to its continuous improvement and support.
Ease of Learning: The syntax of PHP is similar to C and Java, making it relatively easy for beginners to pick up.
Setting Up Your Development Environment
To start writing PHP scripts, you’ll need a suitable development environment. Here’s how to set it up:
Install XAMPP/WAMP/MAMP: These are popular packages that include Apache server, MySQL database, and PHP interpreter.
XAMPP: Cross-platform solution available for Windows, Linux, and macOS.
WAMP: Windows-specific solution.
MAMP: Mac-specific solution.
Create Your Project Directory:
Navigate to the htdocs folder within your XAMPP installation directory (usually found at C:\xampp\htdocs on Windows).
Create a new folder for your project (e.g., my_first_php_project).
Choose an IDE or Text Editor:
Popular choices include Visual Studio Code, Sublime Text, or PhpStorm. These editors provide syntax highlighting and debugging tools that enhance your coding experience.
Writing Your First PHP Script
Now that your environment is set up, let’s write your first simple PHP script.
Step 1: Create a New File
Open your text editor or IDE.
Create a new file named index.php in your project directory.
Step 2: Write Basic PHP Code
Add the following code to index.php:
php
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang=”en”>
<head>
<meta charset=”UTF-8">
<meta name=”viewport” content=”width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0">
<title>My First PHP Page</title>
</head>
<body>
<h1>Welcome to My First PHP Page!</h1>
<?php
echo “Hello, World! This is my first PHP script.”;
?>
</body>
</html>
Step 3: Run Your Script
Start the Apache server using XAMPP Control Panel.
Open your web browser and navigate to http://localhost/my_first_php_project/index.php.
You should see “Welcome to My First PHP Page!” followed by “Hello, World! This is my first PHP script.” displayed on the page.
Understanding Basic Syntax
PHP scripts can be embedded within HTML code. The opening tag <?php indicates the start of a PHP block, while ?> marks its end. Here are some key points about PHP syntax:
Variables: Variables in PHP start with a dollar sign ($). For example:
php
$name = “John Doe”;
echo $name; // Outputs: John Doe
Data Types: Common data types include strings, integers, floats, booleans, arrays, and objects.
Comments: Use comments to document your code:
php
// This is a single-line comment
/* This is a
multi-line comment */
Control Structures
Control structures allow you to control the flow of execution in your scripts.
Conditional Statements
Conditional statements execute different blocks of code based on certain conditions:
php
$age = 18;
if ($age >= 18) {
echo “You are an adult.”;
} else {
echo “You are not an adult.”;
}
Looping Statements
Loops enable repetitive execution of code blocks:
For Loop:
php
for ($i = 0; $i < 5; $i++) {
echo “Number: $i<br>”;
}
While Loop:
php
$count = 0;
while ($count < 5) {
echo “Count: $count<br>”;
$count++;
}
Working with Functions
Functions are reusable blocks of code that perform specific tasks.
Defining Functions
You can define functions using the function keyword:
php
function greet($name) {
return “Hello, $name!”;
}
echo greet(“Alice”); // Outputs: Hello, Alice!
Built-in Functions
PHP comes with numerous built-in functions for various purposes:
String manipulation functions like strlen(), str_replace(), etc.
Array functions like array_push(), array_merge(), etc.
Handling Forms and User Input
One of the key aspects of web development is handling user input through forms.
Creating HTML Forms
You can create forms using standard HTML elements:
xml
<form action=”process.php” method=”post”>
Name: <input type=”text” name=”name”><br>
Age: <input type=”number” name=”age”><br>
<input type=”submit” value=”Submit”>
</form>
Processing Form Data in PHP
To process submitted form data:
php
// process.php
if ($_SERVER[“REQUEST_METHOD”] == “POST”) {
$name = $_POST[‘name’];
$age = $_POST[‘age’];
echo “Name: $name<br>”;
echo “Age: $age<br>”;
}
Form Validation and Security
Always validate user input before processing it:
php
if (!empty($name) && filter_var($age, FILTER_VALIDATE_INT)) {
// Process valid input
} else {
echo “Invalid input.”;
}
Working with Databases (MySQL)
Integrating databases into your applications allows for dynamic data management.
Connecting to MySQL Database
To connect to a MySQL database using PDO (PHP Data Objects):
php
try {
$pdo = new PDO(‘mysql:host=localhost;dbname=my_database’, ‘username’, ‘password’);
} catch (PDOException $e) {
echo “Connection failed: “ . $e->getMessage();
}
Performing CRUD Operations
CRUD stands for Create, Read, Update, Delete operations on database records.
Create Operation
php
$sql = “INSERT INTO users (name, age) VALUES (:name, :age)”;
$stmt = $pdo->prepare($sql);
$stmt->execute([‘name’ => ‘John’, ‘age’ => 30]);
Read Operation
php
$sql = “SELECT * FROM users”;
$stmt = $pdo->query($sql);
while ($row = $stmt->fetch()) {
echo $row[‘name’] . “<br>”;
}
Update Operation
php
$sql = “UPDATE users SET age = :age WHERE name = :name”;
$stmt = $pdo->prepare($sql);
$stmt->execute([‘age’ => 31, ‘name’ => ‘John’]);
Delete Operation
php
$sql = “DELETE FROM users WHERE name = :name”;
$stmt = $pdo->prepare($sql);
$stmt->execute([‘name’ => ‘John’]);
Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) in PHP
OOP allows for more organized code through encapsulation and inheritance.
Defining Classes and Objects
You can define classes using the class keyword:
php
class User {
public $name;
public function __construct($name) {
$this->name = $name;
}
public function greet() {
return “Hello, {$this->name}!”;
}
}
$user = new User(“Alice”);
echo $user->greet(); // Outputs: Hello, Alice!
Inheritance in OOP
Inheritance allows one class to inherit properties and methods from another class:
php
class Admin extends User {
public function greet() {
return “Welcome back, Admin {$this->name}!”;
}
}
$admin = new Admin(“Bob”);
echo $admin->greet(); // Outputs: Welcome back, Admin Bob!
Error Handling in PHP
Handling errors gracefully is crucial for maintaining application stability.
Using Try-Catch Blocks
You can catch exceptions using try-catch blocks:
php
try {
// Code that may throw an exception
} catch (Exception $e) {
echo ‘Caught exception: ‘, $e->getMessage(), “\n”;
}
Best Practices for Writing Clean Code
Writing clean code improves maintainability and readability:
Use Meaningful Variable Names: Choose descriptive names for variables and functions.
Keep Functions Short: Each function should perform one task only.
Comment Your Code: Use comments judiciously to explain complex logic but avoid over-commenting obvious code.
Follow Coding Standards: Adhere to consistent coding standards such as PSR (PHP Standards Recommendations).
Advanced Topics in PHP
As you become more comfortable with basic concepts in PHP scripting, it’s time to explore some advanced topics that will enhance your skills further.
Working with Sessions
Sessions allow you to store user information across multiple pages during their visit to your website.
Starting a Session
To use sessions in PHP:
php
session_start(); // Must be called before any output is sent
$_SESSION[‘username’] = ‘JohnDoe’;
Accessing Session Variables
To access session variables on another page:
php
session_start();
echo $_SESSION[‘username’]; // Outputs: JohnDoe
Destroying Sessions
To end a session when it’s no longer needed:
php
session_start();
session_destroy(); // Destroys all data registered to a session
File Handling
PHP provides functions for reading from and writing to files on the server.
Writing Data to Files
You can write data to files using fopen() and fwrite() functions:
php
$file = fopen(“example.txt”, “w”);
fwrite($file, “Hello World!”);
fclose($file);
Reading Data from Files
To read data from files:
php
$file = fopen(“example.txt”, “r”);
$content = fread($file, filesize(“example.txt”));
fclose($file);
echo $content; // Outputs: Hello World!
Using Composer
Composer is a dependency manager for PHP that simplifies package management.
Installing Composer
To install Composer globally on your system:
Download Composer installer from getcomposer.org.
Follow installation instructions based on your operating system.
Using Composer
To create a new project with Composer:
Navigate to your project directory in the terminal.
Run:
bash
composer init
Follow prompts to set up your project configuration.
You can then require packages by running:
bash
composer require vendor/package-name
Security Best Practices
Security should always be a priority when developing web applications with PHP. Here are some key practices:
Input Validation
Always validate user inputs before processing them:
php
$name = filter_input(INPUT_POST, ‘name’, FILTER_SANITIZE_STRING);
$age = filter_input(INPUT_POST,’age’, FILTER_VALIDATE_INT);
if (!$age) {
die(“Invalid age provided.”);
}
Prepared Statements
Use prepared statements when interacting with databases to prevent SQL injection attacks:
php
$stmt = $pdo->prepare(“SELECT * FROM users WHERE email=:email”);
$stmt->execute([‘email’ => $_POST[‘email’]]);
$user = $stmt->fetch();
Password Hashing
Never store passwords as plain text; always hash them before saving them in the database:
php
$passwordHash = password_hash($passwordInput , PASSWORD_DEFAULT);
// Store `$passwordHash` in the database instead of plain password.
To verify passwords during login:
php
if (password_verify($passwordInput ,$passwordHash)) {
echo ‘Password is valid!’;
} else {
echo ‘Invalid password.’;
}
Debugging Techniques
Debugging is an essential skill for developers when things don’t work as expected.
Enabling Error Reporting
During development phases enable error reporting by adding this line at the top of your script:
php
error_reporting(E_ALL);
ini_set(‘display_errors’, 1);
This will display all errors directly on the page during development which helps identify issues quickly but should be disabled on production sites.
Using Debugging Tools
Tools such as Xdebug provide advanced debugging capabilities including stack traces which help trace issues back through function calls leading up until an error occurs.
Real-World Applications of PHP
Understanding how PHP fits into real-world applications will solidify your knowledge further.
Content Management Systems (CMS)
Many popular CMS platforms such as WordPress are built using PHP. Learning how these systems work can provide insights into best practices for building scalable applications.
WordPress Development: You might want to explore creating themes or plugins which involves understanding hooks and filters within WordPress’s architecture.
E-commerce Platforms
Building e-commerce websites often involves complex functionalities like user authentication systems along with payment gateway integrations which rely heavily on secure coding practices learned through mastering core concepts in PHP development.
Example Project Idea: Create an online store where users can register accounts; add products into their cart; checkout securely using payment gateways like PayPal or Stripe integrated via API calls handled through backend scripts written in php!
RESTful APIs
PHP can also be used to build RESTful APIs which allow different applications or services communicate over HTTP protocols seamlessly exchanging data formats like JSON or XML making it easier integrate third-party services into existing applications without much hassle!
Here’s an example snippet demonstrating how you might set up routes within an API built using php:
php
header(‘Content-Type: application/json’);
$requestMethod=$_SERVER[“REQUEST_METHOD”];
switch ($requestMethod) {
case ‘GET’:
// Handle GET request
break;
case ‘POST’:
// Handle POST request
break;
case ‘PUT’:
// Handle PUT request
break;
case ‘DELETE’:
// Handle DELETE request
break;
default:
http_response_code(405); // Method Not Allowed
break;
}
Common Pitfalls When Learning PHP
As you learn more about writing scripts in php here are some common pitfalls students often face along their journey!
Not Understanding Scope: Variables defined inside functions have local scope meaning they cannot be accessed outside those functions unless explicitly returned or declared global which leads many beginners confused when trying access them elsewhere leading errors being thrown unexpectedly!
Overusing Global Variables: While globals may seem convenient they make tracking down bugs much harder since any part could change its value at any time leading unpredictable behavior instead try pass values around via function parameters whenever possible!
Ignoring Security Measures: Failing implement proper security measures opens doors malicious attacks such as SQL injections so always sanitize inputs validate data before processing anything coming from users!
Neglecting Documentation & Comments: As projects grow larger keeping track becomes increasingly difficult without proper documentation so take time write clear comments explaining logic behind decisions made throughout codebase helps others understand intentions behind design choices later down line!
Not Testing Thoroughly Enough Before Deployment: Always test thoroughly before deploying anything live since bugs missed during development phases could cause significant issues once exposed real-world scenarios especially if sensitive information involved!
Conclusion
Writing perfect PHP scripts requires understanding fundamental concepts as well as best practices in coding standards while avoiding common pitfalls along way!

How to pass a audio signal through a filter?
How to pass a audio signal through a filter ? It should work based on spectral energy i.e if its between 0–4 kHz it falls on speech band and If it falls between 4 kHz-8 kHz then it comes under noise band.Now the VOS(voice operated switch) should be activated if the signal is in speech band and it should be deactivated when it is in noise band. Can some one help me on this problem.

The first step is to design a filter to obtain the A and B vector coefficients.Then use the Butter function, for instance to obtain your signal(type Butter in your Matlab command window and you will find many other type of filters). Once you have obtained the B and A vector coefficients you can filter your signal using the function filter.
y=filter(x,A,B) x(is your input signal) and y your filtered signal.

Illustrator Class Task Fri 8 March
FINISHED WORK HERE
You’ll make two Illustrator pieces, in stages and document your process as you go along. For each of the two pieces, make the following steps:
1. Create a suitable drawing to work from
2. Mark on the drawing where the anchor points will be
3. Document the above, and make a note of what tools and methods you'll use, such as fills, gradients, reflect tool, pathfinder etc.
4. Make the graphic / illustration in Illustrator, with a scan of the drawing loaded into the layer beneath the vector artwork
5. Document the result with a reflection about how successful you were
Repeat this process twice -and make two graphics:  NOTE: Pick / draw objects that are at the edge of your ability. This will vary from person to person depending on what your current drawing skill and Illustrator skills are at. As part of your assessment, this effort will be graded relative to your own skills as demonstrated so far - not relative to some other measure. Make notes in your reflection to discuss your current abilities with Illustrator, such as what you found hard, what you found easy and what you'd like to work on. Remember, this reflective element is part of what counts towards the grade. So push yourself, but don't compare yourself to some outside measure - this is about your own learning.
Graphic 1 - pick and draw or draw from reference / imagination, a graphic that is shown as a silhouette - for example: Skull and crossbones, an aeroplane, a wine bottle and a glass, a rubber plant
Graphic 2 - this should be an object or illustration that has an outline a fill colour and a shadow shading - using some of the same tradition as the penguin illustration
Select and design objects that challenge you slightly, and are manageable between the start of today’s session, finishing before next week. Plan it so the first one can be finished today in class and the second one is started today and finished as a homework assignment. Documentation and planning are KEY to this exercise. Your lecturer will be on hand to help out - record any new techniques and shortcuts and include them in your workbook alongside the screenshots of progress and scans of your drawings.
The drawings
The drawings can be traces of things you’ve printed off, but also you can make your own drawings from scratch. Use tracing paper or thin paper held over the window to refine the drawings or make a second drawing that shows the anchor points where you plan to put them. For extra kudos, show the handles on the anchor points to illustrate them being curve points, hybrid, corner or broken.
Must haves:
Create as few anchor points as possible
Adhere to the principle of putting your points at the apex
Adhere to good file keeping practices
Recommended:
Today is our final Illustrator session, so this is a good time to wrap up a list of your keyboard shortcuts

Inspo: Sleeping Token - The Summoning
Pairing: Amber Freeman x Black!Fem!reader
Summary: Your open invitation was like you were summoning her to a higher place...
Tumblr media
Warnings: Smut, Dom!Amber Freeman, Sub!reader, knife play, praise kink (which is just Amber being disturbing), blood consumption, fingering, and oral.
Words: 1408
DNI IF YOU’RE YOUNGER THAN 18!
Amber’s dark eyes were solely zeroed in on you. Staring at you from the shadows across the street from your house. A perfect view of your window and you sitting at your desk. The faint sound of music able to be heard from the tiny opening of your window with you showing care for the possibility of people in the late hours of the night causing a fuss. But that was the last of everyone’s concern’s when it came to the recent murder’s happening in Woodsboro. Perhaps it was the fact that you knew none of the victims killed personally or you just weren’t scared. Whatever about it had caught Amber’s attention and left an unknowing bubbling in her stomach.
She’d had her eyes on you for a long time–way before she even talked to Richie. And she wouldn’t lie that you were just the perfect design for what she wanted from a companion. An innocent girl that was unaware of the danger lurking beyond the threshold of her front door.
God, the things she would do to you. The things she would do for you.
You had her body and occupied a large majority of her brain that wasn’t already corrupted by the idea of making the perfect stab movie. Because when she wasn’t planning on who to kill within her friend group, she was contemplating how good you would feel around her fingers. Wanting to hear the sweet moans fall from your lips, calling out her name in the darkness, and knowing that she could be the only one to make you feel complete.
Because Amber saw you as branches tangled in a flood. Unable to break free and be taken with the current. Only able to wrestle and worthlessly fight for something you had no control over. Amber was the flood and she wasn’t going to ever stop until she tasted you on her tongue.
Pulling her phone from her pocket, she dialled your phone number before pressing it to her ear. She watched you lift your head from your homework, smiling at your phone before placing it over your ear. “Hello. Amber.”
“Hello, you,” Amber said sweetly. “What are you doing tonight? I hope you’re inside after the shit that’s going on.”
She could hear you scoff and see you rise from your chair and move from her line of vision. “Parents put me on lockdown for the next few weeks until the Ghostface killer is caught,” you replied. “They have to take all my assignments in and then grab whatever is taught and then take what I would get to do in the class. Hell, who knows, maybe I am killed because I am just locked inside a house all day and night.”
Then there was a pause, one that was too eerie for you. And Amber waited, wanting to hear your voice. But what she got was the sight of your front door opening and your caramel skin in the moonlight. Legs exposed with black lace panties covering your glistening heat from the public. A large hoodie hiding enough to be desired for Amber’s eyes. But your gaze was focused in her direction, like a feline’s vision in the dark, you stared at her with a sly smirk etched across your lips.
“But you wouldn’t let that happen right, Amber?”
Amber couldn’t help but release a shaky exhale as her eyes under the Ghostface mask ran up your figure. The large expanse of the inside of each of your thighs and if she was correct, your bare chest that she would leave love bites all across. Already knowing what she wanted to do to you with your open invitation left for her.
And when she stepped out of the shadows, revealing herself as the killer, your lips widened in a sick and twisted grin. “Come and get me, Amber.”
Tumblr media
You couldn’t move. You could only allow laboured and choke breaths to fall from your lips, restraining yourself from arching your back from the sinful tongue flicking over your clit. The cold chrome blade of her knife gently ran across your skin.
Its sleek texture and dangerous purpose rivalling your own. Because Amber would dare say that your body was better than any weapon capable of killing. You could bring her to her knees, worshipping the ground you walked on and the way your cunt felt against her lips. You were dangerous and she wanted every bit of you that she could get.
“Fuck.” Looking down with pants falling from your lips, you saw Amber already staring at you, kneeling at the edge of your bed with your legs hoisted over her shoulders. A twinkle in her eyes at the sight of your cloudy eyes. The blade stood between the two of you gently nipping at your flesh. “Fuck, Amber.”
The sound of her name on your tongue was enthralling as you gently pressed the knife further against your flesh until a small droplet of blood appeared. Her lips wrapped around your clit, sucking with her cheeks hollowing with your back arching, pushing further against the knife.
Whatever you were doing to Amber, it was working. If this was a way to bargain for safe passage from her murderous intent to make the next best Stab movie, she was going to spare you. Just as long as you allowed her to see you like this more often. Because the idea of cheating on her boyfriend to experience this heaven-sent sight was making it all worth it. She would kill for you. Deliver the body to your front step still warm if it meant tasting the divine gift you held.
Parting from your drenched cunt, Amber pressed her gloved fingers to your clit and traced rapid and pressured circles into the bundle of nerves. Kissing, sucking, and nipping at the insides of your thighs, listening to your moans fill the quiet and dark bedroom.
“How’d you know I was Ghostface?” She murmured, kissing around your cunt that squeezed around nothing.
A shaky laugh fell from your lips, it quickly being replaced by a whimper from the blade gently cutting your flesh. “You’re a Stab fanatic,” you stated. “I’ve seen your room and the posters. Wasn’t hard to connect the dots, sweetheart.”
Amber’s lips cut into a smirk, standing to her feet and leaning down, kissing your stomach. Her eyes flickered up at you as her wet tongue graced your skin. Trailing up your sweating flesh and taking the droplets of blood on her tongue and humming. So warm. So sweet.
“God, you’re a gift, baby.” Kissing your plump breasts, she wrapped her lips around your pebbled nipple. Feeling your hands reach up and grasp the back of her head, sighing in contentment as you pulled her closer. “I would love to see you covered in someone’s blood. That would be a perfect scene in a horror movie.”
You chewed on your bottom lip, unable to hide the soft rut of your hips, seeking more from the god-given woman above you. Well, she was the farthest from God and she had noticed your needy body. Smiling as she slid her fingers from your clit and to your entrance, pushing past the fluttering. Tilting her head up with an open-lipped smile as you inhaled sharply.
“So fucking hot,” she moaned, curling her fingers as she gently thrust her digits into you. “Squeezing on my fingers so nicely. You’re just a dirty slut for me, aren’t you?”
“Amber.” The knot in the bottom of your stomach was tangling and growing tighter. Unable to hide the writhing of your body as you grounder hips against the palm of her hand. The cool leather against your clit became the grounding you sought as the precipice of your dopamine shot you into cloud nine. And Amber watched your face twist in expressions of pleasure, choking on your moans and calls of her name as the walls of your pussy twitched and clenched around her. A beautiful feeling that she wanted to make sure no one would ever experience besides her.
Your hot pants fanned her face as your half-lidded eyes stared up at her. “Okay,” she breathed, lips twitching to a grin when your tongue flicked at her lips. Daringly challenging her to keep going, reminding her that you are someone she shouldn’t underestimate. You were a batch of surprises. “I think I’ll keep you as a little secret, sweetheart.”

Task Management:
Creating + Maintaining a Schoolwork Schedule
Key elements
Your schedule suits your individual time/task management preferences.
It is flexible enough to accommodate sudden changes, plus fluctuating energy levels, states of concentration, symptoms and moods.
Daily tasks are not over-whelming; they are small enough that they are achievable.
You do not get “burned out.”
It allows you to be consistent.
Steps to create your schedule
Decide if you want your planner to be paper or digital
Find an “order” that’s logical and achievable for you (more on this later)
Refer to your addendum/syllabus and write down all the assignments, tests and other events taking place that week/month (and their due-dates).
Then break these down, assigning tasks to each day of the week (more on this later).
Break down your tasks even further (more on this later).
Decide if you want to follow a simple daily to-do list or a timed schedule (more on this later).
Find your “order(s)”
Mandatory: Schedule assignments around other commitments (work, social, hobbies, etc.).
Do the hardest task first to get it out of the way (so that the rest of your tasks are less daunting, and because your smaller tasks require less energy therefore can be done even after completing the hard task).
Do the easiest task first to build momentum (give yourself a feeling of accomplishment which will motivate you to continue, and boost your self-confidence early in the day to establish a positive mindset for the rest of the day).
Do the task that’s due first to minimize deadline stress, and so your assignments don’t fall through the cracks (causing you to get discouraged and lose momentum).
Plan according to your energy level throughout the day and week: Do you have Pilates once a week? Maybe you can reserve that day for easier assignments. If you know you’re going to be tired for whatever reason, account for that in your planning.
Consider your state of concentration: If you know you’re too groggy or spaced out for the first hour of your day, you can either schedule easy tasks in that time, or none at all. If you take a medication in the afternoon/evening that makes you tired, schedule easier tasks or none, and get harder tasks done earlier/later in the day. If you have ADHD and crowded places mess with your concentration, but you like studying at a café, go when it’s not busy.
Be mindful of your emotions and symptoms: If you have depression, or are prone to depressive episodes, you’ll need to consider that when scheduling. You might have to rework your entire schedule when you get into a depressive episode (like adding lots of breaks). If suddenly you’re going through a big life event (like a breakup), you need to account for that when scheduling. For instance, if you can’t stand to be alone, maybe you can go out instead of staying in, and if your motivation is low, you may need to up your reward-system or break down your tasks even more.
Break down this week/month’s tasks
Refer to your addendum/syllabus and write down all your due dates for the time period you’re scheduling for.
Based on due dates, outside commitments, predictions of energy/mood/symptoms, assign assignments to the days of the week/month that make most sense for you.
Break down daily tasks into sub-tasks
You can do this (in advance) for your full week/month’s assignments, or do it every morning/evening.
Generally, your assignments will follow a variation of this formula: brainstorm, create an outline, research, write rough draft, edit and revise. Test/exam prep will look something like: check to see what the test is based on, pinpoint important sections, review to see how well you know the material, create a list of items to study, rewrite select notes, make flash cards, study topic 1, study topic 2, etc.
What are the individual components of these steps? Here are some examples. Brainstorm: what should my topic be, what should my thesis be, what points can support my thesis, what do I need to research, what questions do I need to ask my prof? Outline: topic, thesis, points, conclusion. Research: write down all the important parts from each source (separately), then sift through to sort into Supporting Point 1, Supporting Point 2, etc. Rough draft: opening statement(s), intro, point 1, point 2, etc., conclusion, closing statement(s). Edit/revise: read and check for grammar only, then read again and check for spelling only, read again and check for cohesiveness only, etc. Topic 1: Part A, Part B, etc.
Each of these small components can be individual items on your to-do list. Big tasks like, “write essay” are too big for most people. Even “write rough draft” is daunting. If you start with something specific and small like brainstorming, and work your way up, it’s a lot easier to approach. Plus, being able to check off tasks more often and more easily will boost your confidence and your sense of competence, thus building momentum.
Here is a sample to-do list: Research X for Point 1 of Literary Essay, create outline for History Essay, Edit/Revise Assignment 1, study Topic 1 and Topic 2 for Test 1.
To-do list or time-based schedule?
To do list: Write down all your assignments for the day. Put them in the order you want to do them, or go through them intuitively (based on what you feel like doing, or what’s most practical at the time/place you’re at).
Timed-based: Write down all your assignments, then write down the time you’re going to do each of them. You could set reminders or alarms if you want, or simply refer to the list. There’s an awesome app I recommend if this is your thing. It’s called Structured (iOS only).
Curate your study environment for maximum focus
Eliminate distractions such as uncomfortable clothing, sounds (or silence), phone and computer notifications, clutter in the room and on your desk, people who may try to talk to you (shut your door and/or inform them that you’re busy).
Designate a space to doing homework only and avoid spaces that you associate with other things (do not study in bed, as you will want to relax or sleep, and/or you will mess with your sleep by weakening the bed’s association with sleep).
Build associations: Incorporate other events and items into your study/homework routine that you only use while doing that, so that you associate those things with studying/homework (examples: specific playlists, pencils/pens, cups/bottles, scents, rituals, decor, etc.).
Ensure good lighting (preferably including daylight).
Get dressed in clothes that make you feel good about yourself. They don’t have to be “professional” and they should definitely be comfortable. Do not stay in your pyjamas. Believe me, I know this can be hard, and I love PJ’s. But they are not good for productivity.
Don’t “multi-task.” It may feel like you’re getting more done this way, but by splitting your focus, not only do tasks take longer, they also diminish in quality. Commit to the task you’re doing.
Meditate: You can even meditate for just 1-5 mins right before studying, homework and/or classes.
Practice self care (daily!)
Sleep (enough, well, and regularly).
Daylight: Get outside, work by windows, use a light therapy box. These can help regulate your sleep, improve and maintain mental health, and boost energy.
Fresh air: Getting outside even for a couple minutes can help you refresh and reset, and feel good about yourself and your life. Fresh oxygen can help you wake up and is great for your health. Even just opening your window can do a lot for your mood, energy and motivation.
Movement: Try to move at least once per day. The benefits of exercise are numerous and immense.
Healthy and consistent eating: Avoid spikes in insulin levels by eating regularly so you don’t have extreme dips in your energy level. Also, brain power uses calories too, so make sure you’re eating consistently, and try to eat healthy. There are so many other reasons eating consistently is good for your health (and by extension, your productivity).
Relaxation and leisure: Make time for fun and socializing, as well as intentional relaxation. Hobbies, movies/tv, time with friends/family, meditation, baths, progressive muscle relaxation, etc.
Therapy: Your therapy sessions are not daily, but you can do 5 minutes of inner-work per day based on what you and your therapist are currently working on. Working with a therapist is a great way to stay on track with your goals, and develop the skills and positive mindset required for success in school.
Reward yourself
Track progress: Reflect on all the assignments you’ve completed and your grades to remind yourself that you’re capable!
Completing to-do lists daily maintains a sense of accomplishment which keeps your momentum going. Check those items off! Or give yourself gold stars! ⭐️
Treat yourself with non-food rewards: Tie completed school work with fun tasks like video games, or take yourself out for coffee, or some other small (non-food) outing. What I’m trying to do right now is not do my leisure activities until my daily tasks are done.
Develop a positive mindset
Take promises you make to yourself seriously. The more you break promises to yourself, the easier it will get to continue breaking promises. You will lose respect for yourself which lowers motivation, and you will lose trust in yourself which can become debilitating as well. The more you keep promises, the easier it will get, the more motivated you’ll become, and the more you’ll trust and respect yourself. Your confidence will improve, and you’ll feel better about yourself. Productivity is choosing yourself. Discipline is choosing what’s best for you instead of what you feel like doing in the moment. Discipline is a muscle, and like any muscle, it can be strengthened, and it can atrophy.
Remember your “why.” What is the end goal of being in school? What’s your career path, and why did you choose it? What will your life be like when you have that career? What would your life be like if you gave up and didn’t make it to your goal? Aiming for your dream while running from your nightmare is a great strategy for maintaining motivation. Lighting a fire under your *** can be a huge motivator.
Remember how good you feel when you get schoolwork done, and let this motivate you to stay consistent. You can also remember how you feel when you don’t get work done, but definitely focus more on the positive!
Go to therapy and/or hire a coach. There are SO many benefits to therapy and I’d honestly need a whole other post to get into it. You don’t need to be depressed or mentally ill at all in order to benefit from talking to a therapist. They can even help you with time management, procrastination, motivation and more! If you can afford it, please do it. It’s such a worthwhile investment.
Be consistent
No “zero days.” Do at least a bit of homework or studying every day so you don’t slip into vacation mode. Make schoolwork a daily part of your life, so it just becomes the norm.
Build productivity momentum (track progress, check items off your to-do list daily, treat yourself, keep promises to yourself, remember your “why,” remember how success feels).
Stay on top of projects. Your assignments are made up of smaller tasks you assign yourself across time. “Success is the sum of small efforts repeated day in and day out.” - Robert Collier
Avoid burnout (more on this later).
Keep it interesting (more on this later).
Avoid burnout
Self-care: shower and/or bathe regularly, maintain proper sleep habits, stay hydrated, take care of your skin, do relaxation activities like meditation and reading, do fun activities, pamper yourself every now and then with face masks or foot baths, take your meds as prescribed, eat well and regularly, get outside often, move daily, etc.
Break up study/homework sessions into small, manageable chunks of time, with constructive (refreshing) breaks in between.
Break assignments down into even smaller tasks so that you aren’t over-working yourself during the course of a day, and so that you don’t overwhelm yourself (the stress can lead to burnout).
School-life balance: Keep up with your social life as best as you can, make time for your hobbies, maintain self-care, say no to things that don’t serve you, etc. Try to follow through with scheduled schoolwork 100% of the time, but know that you won’t. Sometimes you’ll need to prioritize mental health over schoolwork (be careful though, this is a very fine line, and a slippery slope). Sometimes things will come up and it’ll be out of your control. But more than anything else, there will be times when you just decide to prioritize something else like fun and socializing over schoolwork. This is why your schedule needs to be flexible: to accommodate sudden invites to hang out and random decisions to skip a homework/study session, but more importantly, flexibility will reduce the odds that you’ll skip in the first place. If your schedule includes hobbies and socializing, and anything else that’s important to you, then you won’t feel deprived. If you have school-life balance, you’ll have more of yourself to devote to schoolwork when it’s time to.
Keep it interesting
Romanticize your life by putting effort into making all of your daily tasks a special occasion.
Make meals and drinks special by using your favourite dinnerware and cutlery. Perhaps even incorporate extra elements such as: a beautiful tablecloth, napkins, candles and/or dim lighting, music, wearing your favourite clothing, etc.
Pretend you’re the main character in a movie about a successful, productive student (because you are the main character in your life).
Make games out of studying if this is something that interests you (the Forest app comes to mind).
Use lots of colours in your notes and buy colourful stationary! 🌈
Vary your approach/methods if needed to avoid boredom.
Study with friends (online or in person).
Reward yourself often.
Remember your “why.”

Yan Genshin / Being Their Darling.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Childe:
The days of living a peaceful, quaint life will be far behind you. Childe doesn’t allow himself the vulnerability of getting close to many. He doesn’t care how bloody the road ahead to winning you is, as his hands have never been clean. All is fair in love and war, right?
Childe will get his claws deep into your life before you realize what’s happening. Whether it be extortion or threatening, Liyue’s Fatui are at his disposal, to be used however he sees fit. He’d like to have some form of leverage over you as a backup plan if the regular attempt at romancing you is unsuccessful. There’s also an appeal to knowing you’re under his thumb.
Fatui underlings would be assigned on shifts to watch over you. Anyone that Childe perceives as “too friendly” (which he has a rather lenient definition of), is harassed at a later time to deter further interaction with you. The sudden isolation is unexpected, those who used to be close with you seem too frightened to look you in the eye.
He wishes he had more time to spend with you. The times he does get to spend by your side are eventful, but not in ways you can appreciate. Childe is something of a pest by your side. He won’t leave until he feels you’ve given him enough attention, which is difficult since you always leave him wanting more.
“Didn’t you know I had to work overtime to spend this evening together? Really, trying to lose me in a crowd... I’m almost insulted that you thought that’d work. Try that again and I might just have to tie you up. C’mon, don’t look at me like that, I’m just kidding.”

Diluc:
Luxury and pampering at a cost of your autonomy. You won’t know of the latter until later. Diluc’s attention might even feel enthralling at first, Mondstadt’s most desired bachelor seeking you out is a deep honor if nothing else. Gifts are delivered to your residence, ranging from simple to extravagant. He doesn’t want to draw attention to himself at first, but it doesn’t take too much investigation to find who the gifts are from.
When you’re asleep at night, Diluc finds himself drawn to your residence while sweeping the city of Mondstadt at night. There’s a certain perch nearby that gives him access to your bedroom window. How the moonlight shines on your sleeping face makes his heart go wild, a sliver of a smile on his lips.
Diluc is already a hard worker, but he pushes himself even further to cleanse the world for your sake. You become another unhealthy obsession and almost a reward for his efforts. The entitlement to your time and love creeps up on him before he knows it. For the most part, he can repress it, but that’s exacerbated by any advances on you.
Overtime will grow more overbearing as these emotions rise to the surface. Insisting on walking you to places, helping with your finances, and even suggesting you quit your job altogether. Diluc makes it clear that he wants to take care of you but won’t say why exactly. To have you relying on him would be ideal, so that’s what he’s going for.
“Your hesitation is understandable, but please give it some thought. Whatever it is that’s stressing you, I can handle, so that it’s no longer an issue. I’m more than capable of that.”
Tumblr media
Kaeya:
Underneath a meticulously crafted façade of friendliness are layers of cunning. For every step you feel you’re ahead, Kaeya is ten more. It never hits you until it’s too late how entangled your paths are. Everything was planned — months in advance, even — to bring about the result he desires.
Operates more in the shadows before making a move. Ideal scenarios fall perfectly into place, painting a favorable picture of him to you. Leading monsters to areas you frequent, only to assist you in fending them off, even offering to tend to your wounds should you have obtained any. All the while having his signature charm on full display.
Kaeya desires for you to rely on him to an unhealthy degree. That way you’ll come to return his love, or so he believes, a bond formed under turbulent times. The coincidental eviction and offer to stay with him is a perfect example. When the world is falling apart, Kaeya is there by your side, extending a helping hand. Little do you know that it’s those same hands that manipulated these situations into existence.
He’s done his homework and it shows. Every little accidental brushing over his hand over yours, amorous whispering into your ear, and flirtatious remark is designed to your liking. Kaeya mentions your interests in conversation, anything to warm you up to him. It works like a charm too, as you steadily let down your walls and let him in.
“I’m staring? Oh, you caught me. Though, I can’t bring myself to apologize. It’s unreasonable if you think I could take my eyes off you, when you’re standing there looking like that. Ah... there’s that blush again. See what I mean?”
Tumblr media
Zhongli:
The unrelenting favor from Liyue’s Archon is suffocating. He has astounding wisdom on matters often left in the pages of dust-covered texts. He knows your family lineage and situation on an almost intimate level, recounting details that no one else should be privy to. You’ll get the sense there’s more to Zhongli than what he’s letting on.
Zhongli will see to it that you have lots of free time (to be spent with him...). Any business-related ventures, whether it be filling out permits or negotiation contracts will be completed in record time. All he asks in return is to have dinner together. At the time, it feels like a reasonable request, if not a confusing one. Shouldn’t you be the one treating him after all his help? He looks uncertain when you mention this to him, like he hadn’t thought about it before.
Your family will likely encourage your relationship — even if you insist it’s strictly platonic — believing Zhongli to be an ideal match. His work ethic, knowledge, and cordial nature would be brought up to further convince you. They’d reason that should you ever marry, Zhongli would be more than capable of taking care of you (and them, by extension), for the rest of your life.
He’s more than aware of this newfound grievance in your life. Zhongli believes that by earning the approval of your family, he’ll earn yours as well, so that’s where he started. The pressure surrounding from all sides might make you cave eventually. Until then, he will continue to present himself as a desirable bachelor. This methodology feels perfect, since any angst you may have won’t be directed at him, but your family instead.
“So you think talking to them about it would only worsen the situation? While that makes sense, I believe I could be of assistance, should they hear it coming from me. I’m afraid I’ll have to insist this time.”

꘎♡━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━♡꘎
You knit your brows, studying the canvas in front of you with critical eyes. You’d been given an assignment to paint the view outside of one of your windows. Landscapes had always given you trouble and while it wasn’t a totally horrendous view, you were still miserable. They wanted you to prove your technical skills, which seemed pointless since you’d already made it into the school. Luckily MJ’s classes ran later than yours, so you’d had a couple hours of quiet time to work on your base before she got home.
“Knock, knock, I brought coffee, and Peter,” MJ cracked the door with a smile.
You glanced over your shoulder, giving them a quick nod of acknowledgement before you turned back to the painting, “Hey.”
“Oh,” MJ looked over the art supplies you’d sprawled under the window “What are you painting?”
“I’m supposed to paint the view outside of one of my windows,” you sighed, “It’s not going well.”
“I think it looks great so far,” Peter smiled brightly and held a coffee out to you, “I wasn’t sure what you’d like, so I just got you what I like.”
“It’s basically just caramel syrup,” MJ wrinkled her nose, “Disgusting.”
“Well I’ve got a sweet tooth so I’m sure I’ll like it,” you smiled and took a sip of the sugary drink, “Thanks Peter.”
“You’re welcome,” his eyes were glued to your painting, “I can’t believe you can do all that, it’s really amazing.”
“Thanks, that’s really sweet of you,” you chewed on your bottom lip while you tried to color match some windows, “It’s kind of shitty right now, but hopefully it’ll look better when I finish.”
“It looks fantastic as is, you’re just your own worst critic you know?” Peter tried to assure you.
You nodded, “Yeah, I’ve never liked doing landscapes, I think that’s probably what’s making me hate it.”
“What do you like to paint then?” Peter questioned.
You felt your cheeks warming as you spoke, “People mostly.”
“Oh like portraits or something?” MJ asked.
“Uh, yeah, sometimes,” it felt awkward to explain your art in front of Peter, it made you nervous for some reason, “I do all sorts of stuff, just more oriented around people.”
“I’d love to see your work sometime,” Peter smiled innocently, unaware of the butterflies that he had filled your stomach with, “I bet it’s all really amazing.”
“Well the canvases take up a lot of room so I keep them in storage, but I’ll show you my sketchbook sometime,” you promised.
You didn’t know why you agreed to actually show him your art when just talking about it had made you nervous. If he would stop smiling at you all the time it would have made it a lot easier to tell him no.
Peter’s eyes lit up excitedly at your promise, “I can’t wait.”
“Peter’s a pretty good artist,” MJ added, “He helps his dad design stuff sometimes.”
“Really?” you furrowed your brows. Peter had never struck you as the artsy type, “That’s cool Peter.”
“Thanks,” he flushed, “I mean it’s pretty simple stuff, not like that,” he motioned back to your painting.
“What do you help him with? Like weapons or something else?” you questioned.
“Sometimes, I’ve helped him more on the superhero side of things,” he explained, “Some logos and stuff…”
“Huh,” you cocked your head curiously, “I always wondered if there was a super suit design team or something.”
“No, it’s just my dad,” Peter chuckled, “He gets really into it. I bet you’d be really good at stuff like that.”
You fought the urge to laugh, “Clothing design would be new for me, but maybe I’ll give it a try sometime.”
Unbeknownst to Peter you actually had plenty of experience in the area. Before Fisk you didn’t have an identity, but your jobs got a lot more dangerous after he’d come along. Blackcat was born out of necessity, you need some way to protect yourself and conceal your identity. You had designed and later built the suit yourself, inspired by the superheroes you’d watched growing up. You’d even stolen the idea for the grappling hooks directly from Spiderman.
“I think I’ve earned a little break,” you sat your brush down once you realized you weren’t getting any work done and stretched your arms above your head, “If I stare at this any longer I’m gonna go crazy.”
“Good call,” MJ fell onto her bed while you cleaned up, “Are you going out again tonight?”
“I’ve got a few things to finish then I was going to head to Heathers,” you hummed, “I can head to the library though if I’m going to be in your way.”
Peter shook his head and interjected, “No, you should stay, we can all study together, it’ll be fun.”
You nodded, “Right, well just let me know if I get in your way.”
“You won’t,” he assured, “We don’t have much to work on anyway.”
“Yeah, we’ll actually be done pretty quick, maybe we could all go party together,” MJ suggested, smiling hopefully at you.
If you were actually going to a party you might have said yes, but unfortunately you’d actually be working.
You scrambled to think of some sort of excuse, “Uh, yeah, maybe sometime, but I don’t know if we can tonight. We’re going to a club, so you guys would need fakes.”
“Oh, yeah, we definitely don’t have those,” MJ frowned, “Well maybe next time you go to a regular party we can all go together.”
“Yeah, next time we’ll all go together,” you knew you should have told them no, but you actually liked the idea of all going out together, “You guys don’t really strike me as partiers.”
“We aren’t really, our friends are all more the stay at home type,” Peter admitted, “But it’d probably be fun with you.”
“I’m sure we’d have fun Peter,” you agreed, trying to imagine where he might fit in at a party, “I mean you're a Stark aren’t you? Partying is in your blood.”
“Yeah, I guess it is,” he bit his lip, “But I don’t think I’m really a good dancer or anything.”
“I’m sure (y/n) can give you some pointers,” MJ winked at him as she began to empty her backpack, “What other classes did you need to work on (y/n)?”
“Chemistry,” you sighed and shook your head, “Which I suck at. I don’t understand why I need all these preliminaries for an art degree.”
“I could help you if you need,” Peter volunteered eagerly, “I-I mean I know that stuff pretty well.”
His pink cheeks and his big, hopeful brown eyes were too much for you. You felt like you might melt as you accepted the offer.
“That would be really nice actually, science definitely isn’t my strong spot.”
“I’m happy to help.”
“Thanks Peter.”
You dug out your chemistry book and invited him to sit beside you on your bed. He gave you his full attention while you did your best to explain the assignment but you barely understood it. Peter nodded along, seeming to understand exactly what they were asking for. It seemed much easier when he began explaining everything to you, he was a lot easier to listen to than your professor.
“Can you explain the difference between an ion and an isotope?” you questioned, failing to notice that MJ had climbed off of her bed.
“Yeah, an ion has either gained or lost electrons, so they have an electrical charge,” he pointed to the pictures in the book as he explained, “And an isotope is a version of an element with a different number of neutrons that it normally has.”
“Ah, okay,” you scribbled down his explanation in your notes.
MJ had to clear her throat to finally gain your attention, “I’m gonna run downstairs and grab some snacks, do you guys want anything?”
Peter shook his head, “No, thank you though.”
“Yeah, I’m fine,” you turned to Peter as she left, “Thank you so much Peter, I hope I’m not cutting into your study time too much.”
Peter shook his head, “You aren’t, I don’t have much to do.”
“You’re really sweet,” you complimented, his cheeks flushed almost instantly, “I think I can finish it up. Would you mind checking it out when I’m done though?”
“Of course not,” Peter made no move to leave your bed when he pulled out his own work, “I’m gonna work on some stuff while you finish up then.”
“Yeah, of course, thank you so much.”
You sat together quietly until MJ returned. She held a bag of Hot Cheetos in her arm, which caught Peter’s eye right away.
“Oh Cheetos, sweet,” Peter smiled and reached for the bag.
“No way,” she swatted his hand away, “You said you didn’t want anything, these are all mine.”
“Well I didn’t know they had Hot Cheetos,” he argued, emphasizing the word hot like it might strengthen his plea, “Come on, just a couple?”
“No way,” she shook her head, “Get back to your homework.”
You giggled, “You guys remind me of me and Heather.”
MJ fell onto her bed with a hum, “Heather was the girl we met at your right?”
You nodded, “Yep.”
“Cool, and you guys are related right?”
“Not by blood, but we were in a group home together,” you explained, “She’s like my sister, but she's technically my foster sister. Do you guys have any siblings?”
“I’m an only sibling,” MJ answered, “They got it perfect on the first go so there was no need for them to try again.”
Peter rolled his eyes at her before answering, “I have a little sister, well half sister, she’s only 5 though.”
“She’s adorable,” MJ added, “And totally obsessed with Peter, she thinks he’s like the coolest person alive.”
“That’s sweet,” you laughed, imagining some cute little version of Peter that followed him around everywhere, “I always thought it’d be fun to have a younger sibling.”
“Heather’s older than you right?” MJ glanced back down at her notes, trying to seem uninterested in the answer.
“Only by like nine months, but if you ask her, those nine months have made her infinitely wiser.”
“So is she in school or something too?”
“No, school was never really her thing,” you narrowed her eyes suspiciously, MJ had never had an interest in Heather any other time you’d mentioned her, “I stayed with her the summer before I moved in here.”
“Really?” MJ inquired, her eyes only darted from her book for a moment, “Does she live alone or with a boyfriend or something?”
You shook your head, your lips drawing to a smirk as she confirmed your suspicions, “No, she lives alone. She almost moved in with a guy she was seeing in high school, but luckily she didn’t.”
MJ frowned, “Yeah, high school sweethearts don’t usually last.”
“Mhh hmm,” you hummed, glancing towards Peter to see if he’d caught on but he’d already turned his attention back to his textbook, “Well he was a total douche when she came out so, you know.”
MJ perked up again, her eyes darting up to meet yours, “Bi?”
You shook her head, “Pan.”
“Ah,” MJ nodded and turned right back to her homework, “He sounds like a douche.”
“Yeah he totally was, not even cute either,” you knew Heather would be mad if you didn’t put in a good word for her, “She thought you were pretty cute though, so I guess she’s gotten better taste since then huh?”
MJ flushed, “I guess she did.”
“I thought so,” you noticed Peter had perked up, his corners of his mouth twitching upwards as he realized what was going on.
“You should bring her when we all go out together,” he suggested.
“Oh yeah, I’m sure she’d love to tag along,” you agreed.
A part of your brain was screaming at you to stop, reminding you that you shouldn’t be joking around with them or planning nights out together. You really liked hanging out with MJ and Peter though, and they were always inviting you along with them. Was it really so bad if you wanted to return the favor?
The ugly image of Wilson Fisk flashed in your mind, reminding you of exactly why you weren’t supposed to befriend them. He had made it clear to you that he wouldn’t accept another mess up on your next job. Hammerhead had cargo coming in on Wednesday, and Fisk wanted you to slip in there and steal some shipment plans coming with it. The job was easy enough, the only real challenge was figuring out where exactly he’d be bringing everything in. It was the kind of job you’d done for Fisk a million times, but you couldn’t help being a bit more nervous than you usually were. Fisk had told you multiple times that he had eyes everywhere, and you knew he’d have no problem hurting Peter or MJ or anyone else if he thought they were distracting you.
“(y/n)?” Peter called your name, bringing you back to reality with the sweet sound of his voice, “Are you okay?”
“Yeah, sorry, I just zoned out for a second,” you cleared your throat and glanced back at your homework, “Could you look this over now? I think I got it but I want to be sure.”
Peter nodded, “Yeah, no problem.”

Chapter 1: Faith
1917 words, ~10 minutes read
The rain was pelting down on the rough concrete below. Erina loosely held her umbrella above her head, as she sat on a bench, waiting outside of the Church for her parents, idly twisting and twirling the handle of the umbrella in her hands. Flocks of families exited the church, many pulling up their jacket hoods or putting up their umbrellas before either returning to their cars or walking down either end of the street. She looked down and bounced her legs beneath her off-white puffy dress, which contrasted with her rich, melanated skin. A voice awoke her from her stare into the distance.
"Erina,"
Erina looked up to see her father looking down at her, standing just outside the entrance to the church. Despite not going far, her father seemed to be sweating ever so slightly, clutching his rosary tightly against his chest.
"your mother told me to let you know that she and I will be having a short meeting with some of the pastors. They want to talk about the possibility of the winery producing some custom wines to use for their sermons, remember the sample bottles we bought with us from our wine cellar?"
Erina nodded her head silently in response, glancing over at her parent's vineyard in the distance down the street behind her father.
"We'll only be gone for around an hour, maybe two or three hours at the most. Here are the keys, we won't be too long. Your mom has her keys with her, so don't worry about having to let us in. There should be money in the lockbox underneath the sink if you feel like ordering in some food. There's quite a bit of money in there, so don't go spending it all in one go."
Her father gently threw the house keys to Erina, and they landed in her lap.
"Okay," Erina stood up to kiss her father on the cheek goodbye, "Thanks, dad.  Love you, see you later."
She waved to him whilst walking away.
"See you later, alligator." Her father responded with a playful grin.
His kind and gentle face began to contort as his lips began to tremble and a tear fell down his cheek, watching his daughter depart in the distance. A completely veiled nun appeared from behind him and tapped on his shoulder to lure him back into the church, glancing behind him as he walked back into the church as tears began to flee from his tear-ducts.
Erina returned to her house, unlocking the front door and retiring her umbrella to the pot of umbrellas in the corner against the wall. She kicked off her shoes, settinf them on the floor in the hallway and retreated upstairs to her bedroom. There, she changed into a red sweater with a butterfly design embedded into the centre of the garment, black leggings, and fluffy black socks. She sat on her bed, pulled out her laptop adorned with butterfly stickers, and began to finish the last of her homework assignments.
By 10 pm that night after Erina had finished all of her coursework and her regular chores, she noticed that her parents had not returned, nor had they contacted her mobile phone. No calls, no texts, nothing.
"Maybe they're just busy overnight in the vineyard with the wines and forgot to let me know. It happens more nights than I'd like. They'll be back by tomorrow morning if anything, but they'll probably stay through to the afternoon in the vineyard." Erina comforted herself with that thought.
She retrieved her pyjamas and underwear from her walk-in closet and began to make her way to the en-suite that was connected to her bedroom. She showered and donned her royal blue silk bonnet before retiring to the comfort of her warm bed, the pattering of the rain on her window lulled her to sleep.
Monday morning came and went, as did the drag of the school day. The sky was still a murky grey from the Sunday rain, and puddles remained in the depressions of the cement sidewalk. Erina sat on the short stone wall outside of the desolate Rynden Post-Primary Education Centre, awaiting her friend Ashley. Her knees rapidly bounced beneath her heavy boot-cut jeans, trembling slightly under the bite of the cold wind that wisped through the town. She glanced around the eerily quiet space, the wind whistling around her head as she diverted her gaze from the empty footpaths to the empty parking spaces, to missing person posters that tumbled like tumbleweeds along the road and footpath.
The main doors of the entrance to the Centre burst open.
"Hey 'Rina!!" Ashley beamed and jogged over to Erina, engulfing her in a tight embrace,
"Sorry it took so long, Mrs. Daught took forever critiquing my assignment from last week. At least she didn't do it in front of everyone and humiliate me, but I wouldn't put it past her to do it, the old crone."
Ashley had been Erina's best friend and partner-in-crime her whole life, they went to Primary school together and lived on the same street. Erina scoffed, released herself from Ashley's constricting embrace and stood up to leave.
"Let's just go, we'll do some work at my place. My parents should be back by now anyways, I think they spent the night at the vineyard again. My dad said that they had to have a meeting with some of the pastors from the church about some 'custom wines' so they were probably getting ahead of the workload there." Erina posited, walking down the footpath with Ashley.
"I hope by 'work' you mean that we get shitfaced from the wine your parents keep in the cellar because the Pinot Noirs are just DELECTABLE!" Ashley exclaimed and blew a chef's kiss.
"Ha ha, very funny," Erina said, sarcastically, "no, we'll just get some work done over a split bottle, no getting shitfaced on a Monday night. Friday? Yes, but Monday? Nahh. Have some decorum!" she jested.
Ashley cackled and swung her arm around Erina's shoulder as they continued their path to Erina's house, kicking and stepping on the loose missing person posters that littered the footpaths tumbling around her feet.
Erina swung open her front door, "Mom!? Dad!? Are you home yet!?" she bellowed into the house. Only her voice echoed back to her.
The two girls entered the hallway, retired their shoes to the shoe rack, and walked through the entrance adjacent to the front door that lead to the dining room, setting their required equipment onto the dining room table.
"Hold on, I'm gonna go check their bedroom, they might be asleep," Erina said and took off up the stairs before Ashley could acknowledge what she said. Erina knocked on the door to her parent's bedroom, waiting a few seconds before entering quietly. The room was as her parents left it, a neatly made queen-sized bed stood across from the balcony doors. The door to the master bathroom was still ajar and empty. Her mother's crimson silk bonnet sat undisturbed at her marble vanity, her makeup disorganised from the last application, and her silk robe hung on a hook on the door of the master bathroom.
Erina felt as if all of her organs fell to the bottom of her torso all at once, and a lump announced its presence in her throat. She approached the bed, which was neatly dressed in cream satin sheets, and sat down on it, composing herself with deep breaths. Ashley had made her way up the stairs, curious as to what the silence and the absence of Erina were.
"They're not here, are they?", Ashley inquired solemnly as Erina lifted her head to face her and gently shook her head. Ashley stood at the top of the staircase, her arm on the bannister.
"I should call the church, they were last there. If not, I'll try the vineyard's number." Erina proposed. Ashley held out her arm, motioning for Erina to join her back downstairs. Erina followed Ashley downstairs and made her way to the landline that rested on the wall next to the umbrella box in the hallway. She input the number and waited for the line to connect.
"Why do you have to call the church through the landline?", Ashley queried,
"I'm not sure, my mom always said that the church doesn't accept calls from mobile devices. Something about modern technology messing up their landlines-", Erina interrupted herself as the call was picked up,
"Oh hi, it's Erina Collins, I'm Marsha and John's daughter, you know- the vintners?", she paused,
"Yeah I'm just calling to ask if anyone's seen them after they left the meeting yesterday, they still haven't come home.", she paused once more before responding,
"Okay, I'll call the vineyard, just wanted to know if someone's seen them yesterday after they left. Thanks anyway."
She hung the phone back on the landline box and turned to Ashley.
"No luck, I'll try the vineyard."
"They'll have to be there at least. Were your parents answering any of your calls last night?" Ashley asked.
"Just straight to voicemail every time."
Erina and Ashley walked back into the dining room where they sat at the dining room table, and Erina retrieved her mobile phone from the bottom of her bag. She dialled the vineyard's public number, set it to speakerphone and set the phone on the table in front of herself and Ashley. It rang for a few seconds before being picked up.
"Good evening, this is Collins Vineyard and Winery, how can I help you today?", a dead-inside cheery customer service voice answered.
"Hi, I'm Erina Collins- Marsha and John's daughter. Are they there?"
"I'm sorry love, I'm afraid they're not. They haven't been around since Saturday and haven't picked up any of our calls. Are they not at home?"
"No, they're not, that's why I called to see if they were there. Could you let me know on this number if they show up at all, please?"
"Of course love, let us know if you see them around too. Uhm, and if they don't turn up soon, just know that the winery and the vineyard are under good management, the business will continue as usual so you won't have to worry bout much on the business end unless they're gone for a long time."
"I understand. Thank you anyways."
"No worries, love"
The phone clicked, hanging up the call. Erina's legs had been vigorously bouncing up and down underneath the table throughout the call. Ashley placed her hand over Erina's laid half-closed fist under the table and began to caress her knuckles with her thumb.
"It'll be okay, 'Rina," she whispered.
Erina sat hunched over the table, her hand holding up her jaw as tears fought their way out from her glossy eyes and her lips began quivering.
"What do I do now? I can't- I can't think of anything else to do.", Her voice cracked as her palms clasped around her face, tears sliding down the outer edges of her hands.
"We should file a missing person's report of your parents.", Ashley stood up and gently ran her hand around Erina's back, taking her place in the chair next to her.
A shaky, "Uh huh." was all that was heard from Erina.
"Let's just relax for a bit before actually filing it. I'll make us some tea." Ashley walked over to the open kitchen space that was behind Erina and set the kettle on to boil.

There’s a popular saying that you find love when you least expect it.
For some, it’s about timing. What may not work out now can in the future. For others - it’s finding the courage to tell the other person how you feel. Perhaps it may also be the person was right next to you all along; just waiting patiently. Whatever the case, the roads to one another will be connected so long as both people are willing to meet halfway.
--
The new school year is always an exciting time. New classes. Teachers. Classmates. Getting to wear a freshly ironed uniform after having had a restless night due to excitement. A blonde haired girl walks down a heavily populated hallway. The sounds of students greeting each other after an extended summer break. Girls chattering away about the concert they went to or the latest gossip about who is dating who. Others run down the hallway as one student throws a crumpled up piece of paper and attempts to make a fadeaway, failing miserably and earning laughter from his friends nearby and especially the person recording with his phone. She walks past several classrooms with a piece of paper in hand before finally stopping in front of a row of lockers. Looking down, she finds the locker assigned to her as well as the combination to open it. Turning the metallic dial left, right and counterclockwise left once more, the locker door unlocks.
She places her notebook and several textbooks inside the locker, letting out a sigh of a relief as the weight has been removed from her backpack. Taking a sticker from the inside pocket of the notebook, she puts it on the door of the locker. The bell above the locker area suddenly rings, startling her. It was now time for homeroom class. Having barely closed her locker, she is almost blown away by a sudden gust of wind as various students run through the hall and try to find their homeroom.
--
“Listen up everyone, we have a new student joining us. Introduce yourself.” the homeroom teacher said, staring at you. You approached the front of the classroom with heavy steps and slumped shoulders. All eyes were on you which simultaneously caused you to close yours. Some watching intently, others having facial expressions unable to be read. Breathing deeply, you opened your eyes and addressed everyone.
“Hello, I just moved here yesterday.”
“That’s it?” the teacher asked. You nodded, not wanting to say anything else.
“Well, okay then. It seems our class is pretty full.. Do we have any open seats?” She scanned the room. Most were already taken. As her eyes reach the final two rows near the windows, she finds an opening at the very back of the room.
“Ah, you can sit there.” she said, pointing to a seat next to a girl who was the only person to not look at you.
“Park Chaewon, raise your hand.”
You noticed a small hand being raised as the blonde girl who it belonged to refused to look you in the eye. With the teacher motioning you to your newly assigned seat, you heard the murmurs of students after each step you took. Most were girls giggling and having genuine interest in the new person in their class, while others looked like they could burn your skin from their intense stares.
“Good luck.” one student said to you as you approached the back of the classroom.
Removing your backpack and placing the straps on either side of the backrest, you looked to your right and saw the girl known as Chaewon. Your first impression of her was that she possessed an intimidating aura, seemingly not wanting to be bothered by anyone else in the classroom. Her large, round eyes remained focused at the whiteboard in front. Catching yourself staring at her for a bit too long, you were slightly concerned as she still had not blinked once. She was diligent, taking notes earnestly using a cute pink mechanical pencil with a bunny design on it. Her side profile was further enhanced by the sunlight coming from the windows next to you.
--
Lunchtime was something Park Chaewon looked forward to. Besides replenishing her energy and filling up her stomach, it provided relief from the awkward looks and gossip of other students. She was a loner at school by choice. Many referred to Chaewon as the blonde ice princess - mainly due to her cold expressions and staring at people eye to eye.
Today was a special day at the cafeteria: bulgogi, rice and various other side dishes. Despite having many desserts and pastries to offer most students sought out one - the coveted pillowy soft bread filled with chocolate hazelnut spread. Only offered twice a month, it is always made in limited quantities; no more than ten at a time.
Chaewon had the unfortunate misfortune of missing out on the delicious bread as something always prevented her from seizing one: whether it be a teacher in the hall stopping her to discuss how she felt about the latest test to being bumped by students running by and dropping all of her things. Just a few weeks ago, Chaewon was late to the cafeteria due to having to retake a missed exam.
But this time was different. She calculated down to the second all the events leading up to lunch. For two weeks, Chaewon made sure to get at least 8 hours of sleep, do homework in the library or immediately when she got home. She studied the material right after class ended in order to ensure it was drilled into her mind. Being an introvert and considered “antisocial” and “uncool” by the other students meant she didn’t have to worry about offending anyone’s feelings or waiting up for them. The restless tapping of her foot increased in volume and speed with each passing second in the classroom. She kept a hand clutching her stomach, hoping it would not make loud noises of hunger like it usually did at home. A slight sweat formed on her body as the teacher’s lecture about the different types of Japanese architecture fell on deaf ears.
“... and that is why the legendary Pokemon known as Ho-Oh left Ecruteak City and the Bell Tower after the Brass Tower was burned down. Make sure to do your assigned homework.”
The moment the teacher left the room, Chaewon ran out of the classroom’s back entrance. Taking a look at her wristwatch, her eyes watched the number of seconds constantly cycle through as she timed the distance between where she currently was and the cafeteria. Stepping out of the way of two students helping another gather their belongings and almost running into another student who emerged from a blind spot to the left of her, Chaewon continued running down the hall and each step of the staircase. Placing her hands on her knees, she was mere feet from the entrance to the cafeteria. Gathering the last bit of energy she could muster, she quickly walked inside.
Getting a tray, she grabbed a pair of chopsticks and a spoon. Thankfully with no one nearby, they weren’t able to hear her stomach growled in hunger. She took the metal container of rice and a large amount of bulgogi in stride. Continuing on with the radish soup and a small amount of seaweed and kimchi, it was now time for Chaewon to arrive at the final area before the cashier. With her eyes scanning all the delicious smelling baked goods, she found what she was finally looking for.
Only to find out the last one was just sold to the person in front of her. With a heavy heart, Chaewon sighed deeply and grabbed a similar looking bread filled with vanilla cream and placed it on her tray. After paying for her meal, she found a completely empty table on the corner most part of the cafeteria. Placing her tray down, she tosses the bulgogi around with her chopsticks before eating a spoonful of rice. She tried her best to not be discouraged, reassuring herself that at least there would be something to look forward to two weeks from now. As her eyes wandered and looked at other students laughing and having a good time with friends, she can’t help but feel sad at seeing the chocolate filled bread. Chaewon being deep in thought meant she wasn’t able to hear someone place their tray next to her. She looked down at her meal until her view was replaced with a still packaged bread. With her eyes widening slightly, she turned to her right and saw you extending out your arm. You nudge your hand holding the bread towards her once more, telling her to take it. Despite her hesitance, the excitement and slight amount of drool coming out of Chaewon’s mouth has reassured you that the right choice was made giving up the still warm pastry.
The two of you make eye contact and you give her a small, comforting smile. This causes her to smile back in return and gently take the bread. You and Chaewon eat in silence - with the occasional eye contact and smiles continuing to be exchanged.
--
You and Park Chaewon quickly became friends - a fact that neither of you knew was that you were now each other’s first friend. The two of you talking to each other earned a lot of stolen glances and whispers amongst classmates, but that too subsided over time. It became commonplace for the two of you to share meals together during school and after studying at the nearby food stands outside the front gates.
You helped bring the best out in each other: you learned the importance of being patient and to not let your emotions get the better of you. Chaewon gained self-confidence to stand up for herself and to properly voice her concerns should they arise. Both of you became well known in your classroom and the neighboring ones; mainly due to the occasional people who tried to bully or tease her soon learning why they shouldn’t mess with her - or anyone else for that matter. Chaewon gradually was able to overcome her shyness and make more friends, expanding both of your social outreach in the school.
Just as quickly as the school year began, it ended. For the most part it was largely uneventful. Except for the one older student who was able to go home early when he was chased by a swarm of angry bees which caused him to jump into the fountain in the middle of the campus courtyard. You and Chaewon continued to grow close as friends, becoming almost as inseparable as Ash and Pikachu.
Summer was a different story. You weren’t able to see Chaewon much due to a rather long family vacation that included a month overseas. While you were disappointed, Chaewon was even moreso. She didn’t tell you, but she spent the first week of summer break planning out a list of places and things to do with you.
“Hey I’m sorry Gwonnie, this came so unexpectedly. They never want to go anywhere, but I guess there’s a first time for everything. With how things are looking, I probably won’t be back until about a week before the new school year begins.” you said during a phone conversation with Chaewon.
“Oh no it’s fine…” Chaewon replied, trying and being unsuccessful with hiding the sadness in her voice. You didn’t want to disappoint her - she had spent the last few months excited about summer vacation and would ask you questions about your interests and what you would be willing to try.
“I’ll make sure to bring back some snacks and other souvenir goodies. How does that sound, best friend?”
The two of you warmed up to calling each other that - something Chaewon took very seriously. She brought up the term when you were both at a bubble tea cafe stating she never had a friend she could open up to and be herself. Until now.
“Tch, yeah okay.” she replied nonchalantly. “... and maybe some bread?”
--
The sounds of the opening bell and students running across the grassy football field and outside area signifies the beginning of another school year. Park Chaewon held onto the straps of her new mint green colored backpack, happily humming along to the song her headphones were currently playing. Being an upperclassman meant she finally got her own locker - something she has been looking forward to since she woke up. Removing one of the earbuds, she was able to hear what a few passing students were saying.
“Did you hear? She’s going to confess to the handsome oppa.”
“No way, are you serious? Let’s go check it out!”
Tilting her head in confusion, Chaewon shrugged her shoulders and continued walking down the long hallway. Distracted by the thought of something else, she passed by a small gathering of people without so much as a glance.
Various clusters of students watched as two people stood near the steps and between two rows of lockers. The familiar sounds of murmurs, whispers and a few students taking out their phones to record what was happening added to the anticipation. The girl shyly moved her foot back and forth as she looked down, unable to make eye contact with the person she was standing across from. With her left hand appearing to hold something behind her back, she used her right to tuck several bangs behind her ear. She was able to use that to muster up the courage and tilt her head up.
She is the epitome of a beautiful person: long luscious brown hair, bright big eyes, fair skin that almost represented the color of a block of tofu, and proportions that would make even a supermodel envious. Her nametag rested neatly above her coat’s pocket. Word spread quickly of the new junior’s beauty - with many waiting outside her classroom holding notes and various gifts. It was then known that she rejected them all kindly. At least, that’s what the rumor mill around the school said. So it comes as a surprise that she suddenly showed interest in someone, an upperclassman at that.
“I… I’ve liked you for a long time now, oppa.” she timidly said, presenting what she was holding behind her - a bouquet of red and white roses. Her cheeks blushed as she gathered up confidence and continued. “Will you go out with me?”
Her sudden confession earned cheers and applause from the audience. Several commented on how they didn’t expect her to be so bold on the first day of the school year. Some of the people who tried asking her out looked away in disappointment. But eventually all eyes were on you, awaiting your response.
Looking around - being the center of attention was something you actively tried to avoid. Your brain began processing the new information you were given and actively trying to find the best outcome to get yourself out of the current situation. You’d like to imagine that inside your mind were miniature versions of yourself working on a desk, stacks of paper on either side of your computer as you were busily typing away. Another version of yourself wearing a golf visor suddenly approaches.
“Just got an order from the boss. Dump everything that isn’t about how to reject someone!”
“Everything?” you asked yourself in confusion.
“Everything! Come on, let’s move it!”
With your visor self putting his hands on his hips, the entire department is thrown into chaos as the regular employee versions of yourself begin to run around frantically. Announcements of asking where the nearest shredder is could be heard as you held a giant stack of papers and began to run it through. Papers labeled as spice garden tips, top 5 bubble tea flavors, and what bread Park Chaewon liked were seen being destroyed.
“Come on, let’s get moving!” Visor you yelled as he approached another version of you who was standing in front of an open cabinet. “Hurry up, what do you think I’m paying you for?”
“You don’t pay me. We don’t even exist. We’re just a clever visual metaphor used to personify the abstract concept of thought.”
“One more crack like that and you’re out of here!” Visor you said as his momentary surprise turned into a frown of disappointment.
“No, please! I have three kids!” you begged.
A trashcan is then filled with a box labeled math while yet another version of you is shoveling piles of paper on the ground into an industrial furnace. You were slightly squeamish watching paper being slowly flushed down the toilet. The once well-oiled machine of your mind became a chaotic office full of flying paper and employees losing their sanity. Having the appearance of nothingness in your eyes and with your mouth slightly open, the girl brings you back to your senses.
“Well oppa, how do you feel?” she asked.
Thankfully for your mental well-being, your knight in shining armor appears in the form of a girl carrying a guitar with one strap and a chocolate-dipped peppero in another. Closing the locker door, she gathers the attention of you both.
“Wow, you’re outright flirting with him.”
“What?”
Using the peppero as a pointer she continued. “You’re wearing makeup even though it’s against school rules to do so. Your eyeliner isn’t even winged properly. Your hair is dyed which is again, also against the rules. You got him a bouquet of roses without even taking into consideration if he is allergic to them or not. And finally you’re wearing mint green colored socks. I just felt like bringing that up because I hate the color mint green.”
“Son Hyejoo…” the girl said, squinting as she reads the name tag. “Aren’t you from class 2? You guys are from game development so you wouldn’t understand how to have any social or relationship skills.” she smugly replied.
Hyejoo took the peppero out of her mouth and kept her neutral, slightly intimidating look. “What does being in game development have to do with social skills? Would you even approach him if he was just a normal guy?”
The girl smiled while grimacing and ignored her, looking at you instead. “So oppa, what do you say? Will you go out with me?”
“I thought about it and I don’t think I’ll have time to date you.” you said, putting your arm around Hyejoo’s shoulder. Hyejoo cheekily smiled as she twisted her lips to the right side of her face. “I’ll be busy with Hyejoo.”
The two of you looked at each other and smiled.
“I just look at her face and time flies.”
“Not in front of her.” Hyejoo pretends to be embarrassed and hits your shoulder slightly. You wrap your arm around her back and bring her closer to you. At this point, both of your faces are mere centimeters apart. Hyejoo becomes more bold and continues to lessen the distance until both of your noses are touching. She tilts her head and looks at the girl once more.
“What’s wrong?” she asked. “Do you want to watch us kiss?”
“Don’t mind her. Just focus on me.” you said, tucking strands of hair behind her ear. The two of you tilt your faces and are about to kiss as you hear the girl scoff and turn away. Both of you see her walking away before turning back once more and letting out another sigh of disapproval. With her leaving meant the crowd of people began to disperse - some disappointed she was rejected and many wondering who the person named Son Hyejoo is.
Once everyone was gone, Hyejoo hit your chest and pushed you away from her while you began to laugh. “Did you see that? I told you she was jealous. She only liked you because it would increase her popularity! That’s so gross.”
“Thanks for saving me though, I really appreciate it.” you said to Hyejoo, pinching her cheek. This causes her to rub the newly sensitive area before she crosses her arms.
“What are you going to do about all her fanboys coming after you?” Hyejoo asked. The thought never occurred to you that she was the most popular girl at school. Whether you accepted or rejected her confession, there was bound to be trouble headed your way. You weren’t given very long to ponder as you noticed someone walking through the now empty area.
“Park Chaewon!”
She turned her head and removed her left earbud. Chaewon was excited to finally see you after being apart the entire summer. Tossing and turning the entire night due to excitement, she began to approach you but stopped when she noticed Hyejoo standing next to you. The intimidating and chic aura she exuded could be felt as Chaewon rubbed her arms and shuddered. This was further supported by her being a few inches taller and the way the sunlight from the windows shined on her hair and created a ray of light surrounding Hyejoo.
“H-Hey.”
“How’s my best friend doing? Sorry I wasn’t able to hang out with you all summer. I promise I’ll make up for it starting today.” you said, bringing her in for a hug. Chaewon is caught off guard when her face suddenly meets your chest. She discreetly inhales your scent - lavender with a hint of jasmine. Not expecting feminine aromas to be lingering on you, Chaewon grabs onto your coat and releases what you could only describe as the cutest sneeze you have ever heard. Despite Hyejoo’s facial expression looking the same, you were certain she was surprised at what just happened. You laughed and patted Chaewon on her back.
“Oh by the way, I forgot to introduce you two. Chaewon, this is Son Hyejoo. A family friend and someone who has a very big staring problem.”
“I do not.” Hyejoo said, hitting your arm. “It’s nice to meet you. Oppa’s told me all about you, unnie.”
“Unnie?” Chaewon said, looking at you.
“Did I not mention that? Yeah, Hyejoo’s younger than you by a year.” you said, fixing Chaewon’s ribbon and straightening out her jacket. Satisfied with your work, you reach into your pocket and take out a hairpin before putting it on the side of her head.
“Hyejoo and I were planning on hanging out and playing video games after school. Do you want to join us?”
“Y-Yeah, sure.” Chaewon quietly replied.
“Great! We’ll all meet at the statue outside the front gate. See you at lunch, best friend.” you said to Chaewon before putting your arm around Hyejoo’s shoulders. You raised your hand and flashed a peace sign, showing a homemade bracelet on your wrist. Chaewon looked down at a similar one of her own - the two of you having made it in art class with your initials and the date you first met. She wasn’t sure how she felt other than disappointed seeing you be close with someone else. Chaewon continued to look on as you and Hyejoo walked away; able to faintly hear you asking Hyejoo what she wanted for lunch and her nudging your ribs with her elbow as she unsuccessfully tried to remove herself from your embrace while the two of you started laughing until you were no longer audible.
--
The walk from school to your house was awkward to say the least. Chaewon had her head down the entire time and simply responded with a few words whenever you tried beginning a conversation. Hyejoo on the other hand stared at Chaewon’s backpack the entire time - the only reason it being a mint green color. She has been very outspoken about her strong dislike for bubble tea and mint chocolate.
Entering the passcode triggers a catchy jingle, signaling the door being unlocked. As the three of you remove your shoes, you are the first to step foot inside the apartment. You place your backpack on a chair before turning around and see Chaewon appear uneasy.
“My parents are always busy working so I have the whole place to myself. Make yourselves at home.”
Chaewon looks at Hyejoo who quickly went to the kitchen before timidly taking her first steps - Hyejoo was a curious individual; scanning the entire inside of your refrigerator with a 360-like view while Chaewon bowed and apologized for intruding, despite no one else being home. The apartment was sleek and modern due to having been recently built. Your parents liked to consider themselves in the upper middle class of the income spectrum. While their principles were built upon the motto that hard work and being humble are essential to a successful person - it’s also nice to treat yourself once in a while.
“Seriously, you guys are out of banana milk?” Hyejoo asked you as she closed the refrigerator door shut and carried a bowl of cut up watermelon to the sofa.
“How could we not be when you drink two almost everyday. You really should cut down on it.” You said, sitting next to her and stealing a piece that was pierced with her fork. Hyejoo shot you a death glare while you smirked and pretended not to acknowledge her.
“It seems like you know your way around here.” Chaewon quietly said to Hyejoo.
“She lives next door so she’s been here everyday. Like a sister I never asked for.” you replied, rolling your eyes as you were met with a punch to the shoulder by Hyejoo.
“Are we going to keep talking or are we going to finally play some games?” Hyejoo asked as she held a controller. You grabbed the remote and instantly changed the television settings, all the while looking at her.
“Prepare to be destroyed, Son Hyejoo.”
You gave Chaewon a controller of her own before powering up the gaming console. It was white in design with a gray base on the bottom. The familiar light blue elongated oval began to glow as Hyejoo went through a cabinet and found the perfect game for you all to play.
“What did you choose?” you asked.
“Mario Kart. Didn’t really feel like playing Smash or Battle Revolution.”
“Are you sure? You always lost at the last leg of the course.”
Hyejoo looked at you as if you insulted her entire family lineage. Furrowing her eyebrows, she pouted before composing herself and stuck her tongue out slightly as her expression changed.
“I will defeat you and shred your cart all the way down to its last atom.”
While the two of you were going back and forth over who was the better gamer, Chaewon remained quiet. She felt out of place - she considered you her best friend and yet it seemed you had better chemistry with someone she just met. She wasn’t sure what to do until your question shook her out of her thoughts.
“What character do you want to play, best friend?”
“A-Anything is fine.”
“You should be Toad then. I think it really suits you. What about you, Professor Watermelon?”
“I told you I hate that nickname.” Hyejoo said. “It’s almost as bad as when you call me Olivia Hye.”
“Why? I think it’s great! Did you know that Olivia is a common English name that has its origin from the 13th century meaning olive? You agree with me right, best friend?” you asked as both you and Hyejoo turned to Chaewon.
“I-I think calling her Hyejoo is fine.”
“Man, you guys are no fun. Olivia Hye would make a perfect stage name!”
“Enough. I want to play already. I choose Yoshi.” Hyejoo said.
“I choose Metal Mario. What map are we going on?”
“Coconut Mall is the best one.”
The game is getting ready to begin and all three of you are getting into position. As the timer counts down on screen, you wipe the sweat from your hands onto your pants in anticipation. Hyejoo wastes no time and takes an early lead when the announcer states you can go. She navigates the course with ease, choosing the upper elevator. You are in pursuit using several Boost Pads to gain speed. The two of you are constantly taking the lead over one another, something that frustrates Hyejoo as she bites down on the lower part of her tongue.
While Hyejoo is busy collecting coins and several more Boost Pads, Chaewon is having difficulty navigating through the course. Her character Toad is a cute humanoid mushroom with a white cap and red polka dots. Currently in 12th place, the odds of Chaewon winning seem grim. She is a full four seconds behind the two of you. The race continues on and a Hyejoo victory is all but inevitable. With the last leg of the race being in the parking lot mall, she continues her commanding lead. Seeing Chaewon not having fun, you toss your controller and take hers, startling her. You begin the ascent from last place, passing your own vehicle and all others as Chaewon looks at you before focusing her attention on the television screen. Hyejoo smirks before realizing you were helping Chaewon catch up. Fourth place became third and pretty soon it was back to where it started - you and Hyejoo neck and neck as the finish line was in sight.
“I’m sorry, oppa.” is all Hyejoo says to you before you see a bright yellow banana peel being thrown on the road. With the momentum being built up and rendering you unable to stop, you run over it, causing your cart to spin out of control and crash. Hyejoo cheers while you hang your head in disappointment. Chaewon comforts you, patting your back softly as you look to her and smile.
“You’re buying dinner.” Hyejoo teased as she stuck her tongue out at you. Glaring your eyes at her in unapproval, you raised your hands up and admitted defeat.
“You chose that map because you knew you’d win!” you protested as Hyejoo crossed her arms and smirked in satisfaction. You turned to Chaewon who was grabbing your controllers and organizing them into one neat pile.
“What do you want to eat?” you asked.
“I… actually have to get going.” Chaewon replied.
“Already? But it’s a Friday night, there’s no school tomorrow.”
“I told my mom I would be home early. Thanks for having me over. I’ll see you guys tomorrow.”
“Wait, hold up. Let me get my jacket really quick and then I’ll walk you home.”
“No, it’s fine. I can get home by myself.” Chaewon quickly said as put on her shoes and bowed to you and Hyejoo before leaving.
“O-Okay.” you softly said as the tone of the door being locked rang through the apartment. You looked to Hyejoo who was busy scrolling through her phone.
“She’ll be okay, right?” you asked.
“She’ll be fine. She’s a big girl, she can take care of herself. What do you want to eat? I’m in the mood for some grilled bbq and kimchi, yum.” Hyejoo said, her eyes remaining glued to the phone screen.
“Seriously? When aren’t you hungry? Just get me whatever you’re having.”
Still worried about Chaewon, you pondered calling her and staying on the line until she got home. Your phone then started ringing.
“Hey, are you home already? That was quick.” you cheerfully said.
“O-Oppa…”
“Chaewon, what’s wrong?”
“C-Can you stay on the phone with me? I think someone’s following me.”
You quickly got up, startling Hyejoo. Your face became serious as you began to process what Chaewon was saying.
“Where are you?”
“I-I don’t know. There’s a-an alley and the light looks like it’s about to die out. Please hurry oppa, I’m really scared.”
“Just use your phone’s flashlight and talk to me like you’re talking to a parent. I’ll be there soon.”
You went to your room to put on a jacket and mask as Hyejoo peeked her head from above the sofa.
“Where are you going?”
“Watch the place while I’m gone. And order some extra food while you’re at it.” you said, stumbling as you struggled to put on your shoes and leave the apartment. Once out on the sidewalk, you looked everywhere frantically about where to begin looking for Chaewon.
“What route did you take from my place?”
“Yeah mom, we go down to Jeju every year. You like seeing the waterfall and cave, remember?”
South. With a clear direction in mind, you set off to find her. The early evening as some would call it meant a busy night scene. Restaurants open until the middle of the night, bright neon fluorescent signs that are like a signal to summon rowdy patrons to gather and exchange in alcohol and grilled meats. You passed by various couples enjoying a date or a group of friends looking to unwind after a stressful work week. Unsure of where to go next, you continued questioning Chaewon.
“What do you see near you?”
“Mom, do you remember when you got me those cute stickers from the vending machine and I used to put them on everything. Or how we used to buy Cheetos from the convenience store and walk home together? I miss those days.”
You were determined to find her, even if your legs gave out. Taking a sharp left turn and a subsequent right while almost getting hit by a car who honked their horn at you, you finally found her. Looking around nearby to find the suspicious person, there wasn’t anyone else in sight as you brought Chaewon into a hug. You took off your mask, watching as the chilly night air gave form to your heavy breathing. Chaewon’s eyes began to water as she started crying into your clothes. You brought her closer to you and gently stroked the back of her head.
“Shh, it’s okay. You’re safe now.”
The two of you help calm each other down before you release her from your embrace. Chaewon looks up and sees you smile before your expression changes.
“Why did you go home by yourself? I told you I’d walk you home!” you yelled, scaring her.
“Our places aren’t that far apart. I thought it would be fine.” she said quietly.
“Next time, Hyejoo or I are going to walk you home and that’s that.” you said, crossing your arms and regaining your composure.
“Why? You spent the entire day talking to Hyejoo more than me.”
“Why? Because I care about you, that’s why!”
--
8:02 AM. It’s a morning unlike any other as Detective-in-training Park Chaewon takes her seat in the briefing room. Having spent three years as a beat cop, she was excited to finally get hands on experience and advance up the promotional ladder.
“Happy Tactical Village Day!” a woman said to each person in the room, high fiving them in the process. She was extremely bright and cheerful, possessing a smile that could melt away anyone’s troubles. She turned to Chaewon and raised her hand, earning a soft hi-touch in response.
“Jung Jinsol, I’m surprised to see you so excited about departmentally mandated training exercises.” Captain Jo Haseul said, simultaneously addressing the woman along with the rest of the people in the briefing room.
“It’s the most fun day of the year!” Jinsol said, beaming. “Something you wouldn’t understand because you’re not programmed to feel joy.”
“Yes… But, my software is due for an exuberance upgrade.”
Jinsol folded her lips into her mouth and covered it with her hand. Others nearby tried their best to suppress their snickers as the captain continued.
“Pick a partner and stick with them. This is a team building exercise - I don’t mind you all having fun, but be responsible. Make sure to be on your best behavior and show everyone why Blockberry Precinct is the best precinct in our area. Dismissed.”
“Want to be partners?” Jinsol said, turning to Chaewon and batting her eyes repeatedly.
“I guess…” she replied. “But I too am due for an exuberance upgrade.”
--
One extremely long bus ride later, the squad arrived at the site of the training exercise. Various other precincts were also in attendance as Chaewon admired the building. It was rather dated and had seen better days, but she didn’t care. She was thankful to finally be given a chance to prove herself.
“I can’t wait for this to be over.” Jinsol whined.
“What? You were going on and on about how excited you were to be here. What happened?”
“I don’t actually look forward to being here. I enjoy getting the free souvenir bags and food they serve after. The meat melts in your mouth.” Jinsol explained as a small amount of drool began to seep out of the corner of her lips.
Shaking her head, Chaewon opened a duffel bag given to her by the event organizers and began going through the checklist to make sure everything was accounted for. As she fixes her safety glasses, she hears a familiar voice.
“Park Chaewon?”
 It was a voice she knew all too well. But she didn’t want to believe it was real. Someone who was once an important part of her life. Sighing, she turned around - a slight hope that her premonition wouldn’t be true. But her instincts never failed her before, so why would they now.
“H-Hi, oppa.”
“It’s been a long time.” you cheerfully said as you awkwardly pulled her in for a hug. Chaewon raised her hands to reciprocate but stopped halfway. The two of you stayed like that for several seconds before separating.
“Hyejoo, you’re here too.” Chaewon said.
“You don’t sound excited to see me.” Hyejoo coolly replied before tilting her head sideways and also giving Chaewon a hug. This time, Chaewon really did not know what to do and repeated the same lifeless motion she did with you.
“Small world, I really didn’t expect to see you here.” you said.
“Me neither…” Chaewon said as her voice still remained at its extremely low volume.
“Happy Tactical Village Day!” Jinsol announced to you and Hyejoo, her warm and inviting smile breaking the tension.
“I’ve heard of you, Jung Jinsol right? The famous rookie who managed to talk down the Treble Clef robber by doing a duet and singing in the rain?” you said, extending out your hand to shake Jinsol’s, only to be met with her high fiving you.
“That’s me! He wanted to send a love letter to his dearly beloved by writing, err, more like carving musical notes onto his victims. I didn’t know other precincts knew about me!” She said excitedly.
“I guess you guys are competing in the tag team free for all? Good luck.” you said, focusing your attention back to Chaewon. Her eyes briefly met yours, causing her to look away. With a slight tint of red on her cheeks, she felt the temperature in the room drop slightly only to see Hyejoo pass by.
“ Son Hyejoo, wait up! I’ll see you guys out on the field!” you said, waving to Chaewon and Jinsol as you ran to catch up to your dark haired partner.

“Everyone, listen up. There are ten hostages and thirty perps. Your mission is to safely rescue the hostages while eliminating the perps. Be careful as some of them could be disguised as civilians. The training exercise ends in two hours. Begin.”
Park Chaewon points her modified paintball gun at an empty room as her specialized glasses relay create a personal heads-up display displaying all of the information needed. She scanned the room for any clues but was disappointed to find out it was simply empty.
“Clear.” she relayed through an in-ear piece.
“I’m hungry. I knew we should’ve eaten more before this. I'm hungry, don’t want to gain weight.” Jinsol whined as Chaewon slowly walked through a hallway and entered another room.
“Seriously, unnie? It hasn’t even been thirty minutes since we last ate.”
“You call three pieces of carrot and some cashews eating? I can’t believe it took you twenty minutes to eat those by the way.”
“Focus. Is there anything on your end?”
“No, room two is clear also. What do you think about getting crepes?”
“You talk about not wanting to gain weight but want to eat crepes?” Chaewon asked.
“But have you tried Nutella crepes with banana slices? They are to die for.”
“I’m not going to cook them for you, unnie.” “I wasn’t expecting you to. Especially since the last time you were in the kitchen, the precinct almost got burnt down. I mean really, who puts a cake from the bakery with the metal tin still attached and reheats it for forty minutes? We had to air out every floor and it still wasn’t enough.”
“Not to mention the Captain calling me Chaewon Ramsay.” Chaewon whined.
“I remember that.” Jinsol said, laughing loudly into Chaewon’s ear, causing her to flinch. “You want to talk about where the lamb sauce is, it surely wasn’t in the Blockberry Precinct’s now defunct microwave.”
“One last room.” Chaewon replied, focusing her attention back onto the mission. “I’ll see you there.” Navigating through the almost endless hallway, Chaewon makes a left and looks up to see sets of stairs that could almost reach the sky. With a deep breath, she begins to climb. The first ten sets provided little difficulty, but as she continued on, Chaewon felt herself growing fatigued. The sign indicating what floor she was currently on began to increase in number. She was certain she climbed 99 floors - but in actuality it was probably twenty. Dragging herself up the final ten steps, she leaned against the wall only to see another pair of shoes standing next to her. Looking up she finds Jinsol, still possessing her patented warm smile.
“H-How did you get here…” Chaewon blurted out, swallowing her own saliva as she felt her mouth be dehydrated.
“You know there was an elevator, right?”
The two women point their guns in the air, looking at each other before entering the open final room. Their glasses showed no signs of life - but as the two go deeper inside, Chaewon finds the outline of a woman on the ground. Using two fingers, she looks to Jinsol and tells her for both of them to go straight ahead. Entering another room, they find Son Hyejoo on the ground with her hands tied behind her back and a bandana around her mouth.
Chaewon quickly rushes to her and helps her up while Jinsol removes the pieces of cloth. Hyejoo looks at her before pulling her in for a tight hug. Chaewon pats her back as the two embrace each other.
“Unnie’s here. It’s okay, Hyejoo.”
“Thank goodness you’re here. One of the civilians went off script and decided they wanted to be a perp.”
“Really? That’s pretty strange. I thought most of the people labeled as civilians don’t really care what role they got.” Jinsol said.
“I guess not.” Hyejoo replied. “I was trailing them but got caught here.”
“Let’s go find them then and win this thing.” Chaewon said, standing up and extending her hand out to help Hyejoo. As she is about to take it, someone else enters the room.
“Hey Hyejoo, why did you ask that guy if you two could trade-”
A whirl of blue paint passes by Chaewon followed by a grunt as she and Jinsol turn around to see you, having been shot by your own partner. You looked down at the giant blue stain on your vest as the pain began to gather at where you were targeted. With everyone still in a state of shock, Jinsol reaches for her gun but is shot too. Chaewon’s gun is still in her hand but knows she is unable to do anything.
“I’m sorry, unnie.” Son Hyejoo said as Chaewon herself is eliminated, thus ending the training exercise. It felt eerily similar to when the three of you played Mario Kart and Hyejoo betrayed you both. The same mischievousness seems to have not been lost with time.

After a fresh change of clothes, the four of you gathered outside the training facility. Chaewon was no longer a blonde, though a fair amount of it could still be seen through her now darker color. She wore a slightly see through black dress with various jewels that adorned it, showing the faintest amount of cleavage. It was a blend of tasteful and awe inspiring. Her grey colored contacts and bright red lipstick were the key points that stood out to you.
“You guys want to grab a drink? I know a pretty cozy spot nearby here.” you said to the group.
“I uh… just realized I can’t. I… gotta go meet my boyfriend.” Jinsol said, winking at Chaewon before bowing to you and Hyejoo. Chaewon tried preventing her from leaving but was unsuccessful at stopping her.
“What do you say? We’re one person down, but that doesn't mean we can’t catch up like old times.”
Chaewon looked at you both and smiled nervously.
--
The bar you brought up had seen better days. The decor was dated with wooden tables and various sized bar stools spread out. Various neon signs were burned out, with a sign that said ‘Quality Drinks Here’ having been reduced to ‘Quality Drinks Her’. Despite all this, it seemed to still have regular customers as well as a wall adorned with alcohol bottles.
“This place is such a dump, why did you choose it?” Hyejoo asked.
The reason why presented itself. An attractive woman tending the bar was always a sure fire way to get customers to come in, and you were no different. Her long light brown hair with blonde highlights ended past her stomach. Saying she was easy on the eyes was an understatement. The mole on her right cheek and near her left eye were accentuated by her winged eyeliner and pink eyeshadow. Her fair skin only helped in bringing out her beauty even more.
“Hey there.” she said, her deep voice unexpected compared to her appearance. “Haven’t seen you in awhile.”
“Work’s been keeping me busy. How are things?”
“Same old. Drunk old guys drinking away their problems and ignoring their wives calling them. Creeps trying to hit on me and ask for my number. So you know. The usual. I see you’ve brought company.” She said as she wiped down the counter and placed coasters in front of the three of you.
“Yeah. They’re old friends of mine. This is Park Chaewon.” you said, introducing her to your left. “While the creature on the right here is called Son Hyejoo.” This introduction earned you a punch to the arm from Hyejoo as the bartender laughed softly.
“You two are certainly pretty.” she said as she grabbed a few bottles from the wall to replace the ones in front of her. She then grabbed a packet of straws and placed them under her side of the bar.
“What can I get you guys tonight?”
“I’ll take a beer. Something smooth. And dark. What about you guys?”
As Chaewon pondered what to order, Hyejoo instantly knew what she wanted.
“I’ll take sex on the beach. Make it really dirty.”
“A fine choice. We don’t really get requests for that much.” the bartender said with a smile. “And for you?”
“A virgin Cuba libre…”
“I’m sorry, can you repeat that one more time? I couldn’t hear you.” she said, placing her index finger behind her ear and leaning closer.
“I wanted a virgin Cuba libre…”
“Isn’t that just a cup of cola with ice and a lemon wedge?” you asked.
“Nothing wrong with that at all.” the bartender said, scolding you. “Don’t mind him. Your drinks are coming right up.
The bartender quickly got to work, making a show of tossing bottles into the air and grabbing them successfully while pouring exact measurements into a metal container and making sure they were shaken, not stirred. She finished Hyejoo’s drink in record time, placing it on the coaster with a paper umbrella as a decoration. Reaching into the mini fridge behind her, she grabbed a dark amber colored bottle of beer and popped open the cap for you. With Chaewon’s drink, she placed a rocks glass on the coaster; using a pair of plastic tongs to put three ice cubes and adding the carbonated beverage. Slicing a lime wedge, she wiped the rim of the glass with it before squeezing several drops into the drink.
“Hope you all enjoy it.” she said before tending to other customers.
Hyejoo wafted the scent of her drink into her mouth before taking a sip. The liquid was slightly bitter, but not something she couldn’t handle. She bit on the lime wedge and puckered her lips.
“Not bad… I see why you come here. She’s cute.”
“That’s not the only reason why I come here, Hyejoo.”
“Why else would any other guy be here if there wasn’t a smoking hot bartender?”
“The quality of the drinks has improved ever since she started working.”
Hyejoo rolled her eyes as she removed the paper umbrella and continued to drink. You turned to Chaewon who swirled her drink around.
“How’s yours?” you asked.
“It’s fine.” she quietly replied.
“So, how have you been? Hyejoo and I lost contact with you after you dropped out a month before graduation.”
“I’ve been okay.. Hoping I finally get promoted to detective.” Chaewon said.
“I believe in you. You were always great at whatever you did.” you said, smiling softly at her. “And hey look at this.”
Chaewon turned her attention from her drink to you to see your wrist still adorning the bracelet the two of you made all those years ago. A sudden wave of emotions washed over her. She knew she had to excuse herself immediately.
“I… gotta go.” Chaewon said as she suddenly left the bar.
“You know she likes you, right?” Hyejoo said, getting your attention.
“What? Don’t be ridiculous.”
“I could see it in her eyes from the moment I met her. She’s liked you as more than just a friend. And you are too dense to admit the same.”
“I like Chaewon as a friend, Hyejoo.”
“Friends don’t make bracelets together with their initials and the date they met unless they’re girls or a couple. They certainly don’t drop everything and try to find someone in the middle of the night. Plus, while your actions make it seem like all your attention is on me, I know Chaewon is in your heart. The question is, are you going to stop lying to yourself and chase the one who got away?”
Your entire past with Chaewon is replayed in your mind as you think about her smile and the way she made you feel.
“I think I just figured something out. I gotta go.” you said to Hyejoo.
“Aren’t you forgetting something?”
“Uhh…” you looked around and approached Hyejoo slowly before kissing her forehead and exiting the bar.
“No… pay your bill! Who raised you?” she said to herself as she swirled her drink around and took another sip.
“Why didn’t you tell him how you feel?” the bartender suddenly asked as she approached Hyejoo.
“He only sees her. I missed my chance years ago.”
--
You stood outside the bar and found Chaewon sitting on a nearby bench. It was rather high, causing her feet to not touch the ground. She kicked the air repeatedly, unaware of your presence. You crossed your arms and admired her for a bit before sitting down.
“I’m not dating Hyejoo. I never did.”
“I didn’t say anything…” she said quietly.
“But you were thinking about it. Hyejoo’s just a close friend. Something you used to be as well.”
The two of you sat in silence and admired the night sky. Even through a busy metropolitan city, the stars were still able to be seen.
“I can’t live without you.”
Chaewon looked at you to see you still watching the stars, pointing at a few of them as you smiled.
“Without you, whether it be a month or a day, the time I spend becomes meaningless to me. This was the conclusion I came to when I saw you again at the training exercise today. I’m sure you don’t understand what I’m talking about, though…”
Chaewon continued to look at you, not saying anything. You were embarrassed at what you just said and began to look away. She however, held your face and stared into your eyes before bringing you closer to her and planting a tender kiss on the lips. You opened your eyes and saw the same smile she had when you shared the special bread with her in the cafeteria.
--
One quick taxi ride later, Chaewon was about to enter your apartment for the very first time. The two of you stumbled into your apartment, laughing the entire time. From an outsider point of view, they probably would’ve thought you were both drunk. And to an extent, they were right. You two were drunk off each other.
Only your coats made it onto the couch as a discarded pile of clothes traced your steps into the bedroom. She led you to your bed, with you reduced to only wearing your boxers. Chaewon looked nervous, something you picked up on right away.
“We don’t have to do this if you’re not comfortable with it.”
“N-No. I want this. I want you, oppa.”
Chaewon gave you a quick peck before sinking onto her knees in front of you. She was met with your boxers pitching a tent. Grabbing the top hem, she slowly pulled them down. Your cock throbbed once newly exposed to the cool air, almost hitting her in the face.
She looked at your cock curiously. You felt her slim fingers wrap themselves around your base into a fist. She gave a slightly firm squeeze, causing you to moan. She began with slow strokes, seemingly preparing you for what was to come. She noticed you beginning to leak, running her thumb through it and earning herself a breathless gasp from you in the process. She brought it close to her nose and sniffed it. You laughed as she continued. The juxtaposition of Chaewon’s large eyes and innocent features contrasting her sinful action was a sight to behold.
“I’ve never done this before, oppa. Is it supposed to take this long?”
“For what? For me to cum?” you asked. Chaewon nodded.
“I… actually released a load in the shower after the training exercise.” you embarrassingly admitted.
Chaewon nodded in genuine interest as she continued pumping your shaft in her small hand. You threw your head back in satisfaction as you weren’t aware you were using her fist as a sort of fleshlight. Her grip increased as she began to stroke you faster.
“M-Maybe you could put it in your mouth?” you asked, scared Chaewon would say no.
“I just… have never done it before.”
“That’s okay. I’ll help guide you. I guess you could start with licking the precum that’s leaking out.”
Chaewon did as she was told, flattening her tongue and swiping the colorless liquid from you. She repeated this several times, causing the head of your cock to be wet. You didn’t tell her, but she spit on your dick and began to spread it all over with her hand and also by puckering her lips. It surprised you that she knew how to do that for claiming to have never given a blowjob before. But then again, it wouldn’t be difficult to know given everything is one simple internet click away. Your cock was beginning to be covered in Chaewon’s saliva as she meticulously applied it all over.
“Maybe you could massage my balls too? They’re sensitive so you have to be really careful.”
With her right hand stroking and lathering you, her left fondled your balls. The stimulation from both of your hands felt amazing, it caused the baby hairs on your body to stand erect while sending electric jolts of pleasure to your spine.
Chaewon seemed to be getting the hang of things, but now was the real test. She gave the underside of your shaft one smooth continuous lick until she found her way to your tip. Wetting her own lips, she grabbed onto both of your thighs and finally took you inside your mouth. You held your breath as you felt her wrapping her lips around the tip of your cock. A moan of satisfaction was released as her soft lips began to work their magic.
While you were sure she was telling the truth about not having done it before, it seemed Chaewon had been practicing somehow as she was constantly trying to keep her teeth out of the way and hurting you.
“Fuck... princess, that feels so good…”
Chaewon began extending past your tip, adding an inch into her mouth as she hollowed her cheeks. Her soft lips felt like heaven as she slowly became a soft ball of hair taking more and more of your length. It was moot at this point to continue instructing her - Chaewon flattened her tongue again and you felt it coating the underside of your shaft, sending even more pleasure coursing through your body. You closed your eyes and savored the wonderful sounds of Chaewon slurping on your dick, thoroughly covering you in her saliva. You felt her nose reach your base a few times, with her releasing you from the warm confines of her mouth after she gagged and was unable to continue. Your cock glistened as a saliva bubble formed just below where the tip and shaft connected. Thin strands of saliva connected you and Chaewon together as she sliced through them and giggled.
“That was amazing.” you said. As much as you loved having her in between your legs, you were ready for the main event. You helped her off her knees and gently pushed her onto the bed.
It seemed the years were kind to Chaewon - she was the perfect mix of toned, while possessed a hint of curviness. Her thighs were deceptively thick; and soft to the touch as you spread them open. You began by feeling how smooth they were before planting several kisses on them. You made a trail that slowly ascended, doing so on both of them before kissing the inner creases of the apex of her thighs. She was already sensitive, her body reacting to every contact from your lips. Like you, Chaewon also began to leak out as you stuck your tongue out to consume it. The taste was like sweet nectar, something you were happy she was releasing for you.
“F-Fuck, that feels so good…”
It was the first time you heard Chaewon curse, and with what was next, you knew it was only the beginning. You parted her damp folds with your thumbs and lowered your head to begin exploring her moist cavern. Chaewon’s body bucked upwards from the pleasure as your tongue continued to excavate the sweet nectar she possessed. You gently bit on her clit, causing her to scream in arousal as her thighs wrapped themselves around your head and pushed you deeper.
Her eyes became half-lidded and consumed by desire as you continuously lapped up her juices while stimulating her folds.
“O-Oppa, keep going. Please… don’t stop!”
It was beginning to be a bit difficult to breathe, but you were happy knowing Chaewon was on the receiving end of pleasure. You traced two fingers against her inner folds before sinking them inside her. She was extremely tight - her walls immediately latching onto and squeezing you. Your thumb remained outside, rubbing her clit as you repeatedly moved your fingers in and out of her pussy. It didn’t take long for Chaewon to achieve her euphoric bliss.
“Oppa!” she screamed loudly as it finally arrived. Removing your fingers just in time, you parted your lips and stuck your tongue out as her hips frantically raised upwards while thighs squeezed your head even harder. You could feel her toes curl as Chaewon’s orgasm caused her entire body to react. Her sweet essence coated your mouth and cheeks as she drowned you in pleasure.
You tried your best to consume it all but it proved to be too much as Chaewon continuously released her lovely juices. Violent aftershocks continued on as you helped her begin to descend from her orgasmic high. You rubbed her sensitive clit and stimulated her until you could feel her thighs hold on your head begin to weaken.
“You did so well, princess.” you said, smiling. Her juices stained your lips and chin as you planted tender kisses in between her legs.
“I-I... fuck… intens- fuck…”
She was still drunk from the orgasm you gave her. You continued praising her and kissing her thighs as she gradually began to recover and return to normal. Once she does, you embrace her and place her sweat-kissed body on top of yours.
Chaewon ran her hands through your hair as your lips found their way to her nipples, gently sucking on them as she moaned out in pleasure. Your hands did not remain idle - roaming every inch of her skin until resting on her soft bottom.
“C-Can you fuck me now? Please, oppa?”
“How do you want it, princess?” you asked.
“Can… can I ride you?” she shyly asked.
“I’d love that.”
“Wait.” she said, kissing your lips as she got off you and went to her nightstand. You turned to your side and saw her rummaging inside a drawer looking for something. Most of its contents were various night creams and lip gloss, and what appeared to be a phallic-shaped device. You were about to ask if you could help when she closed it and held something behind her back.
“What is it?” you asked.
“Something for me, but also something for you.” she said, biting her lower lip seductively. She grabbed your wrists and wrapped a thin black lace material around them before tying them together. She repeated the process to your eyes. You didn’t expect this side of her, but then again, you didn’t expect to currently be in bed with her either.
“They say sensory deprivation provides an even better experience for both partners.” Chaewon said.
She rubbed her splayed lips against your length several times before reaching below herself and guiding you inside for the very first time. The two of you let out a loud sigh of relief as your tip parted her. She was warm, wet, and dangerously tight. Her body refused to let you go, sinking your cock deeper.
“Oh fuck…” she exhaled loudly as she firmly planted her hands on your chest. She raised her hips until only your tip was inside her before slamming herself back down. She did this several times to warm the both of you up. Eventually, she placed her hands on either side of your head as her lips met yours. The two of you explored each other’s mouths as your tongues danced an elegant tango. It was as if your cock explored a newer part of her pussy with each deep entrance.
Being unable to move your hands or see Chaewon heightened your other senses even more. You were able to feel how tight she was bouncing up and down on your cock. The sounds of her moans that were like music to your ears. The smell of sweat and sex releasing natural pheromones making you want this moment to never end. But as the tightness in your abdomen continued to grow, you knew it wouldn’t be possible.
She bounced herself softly up and down five more times until she felt you raise your hips to match hers. There was nothing else either of you could have done - it was inevitable. Your cock began to throb as a warning before you finally exploded inside her. You moaned in satisfaction as you released shot after shot of thick, hot semen into her waiting pussy. Chaewon’s walls clenched against your shaft, suffocating it, which only caused you to unload more.
Her lower body felt flushed as she could feel it beginning to leak out and stain her thighs. Both of you were exhausted, but fully satisfied. She gathered her remaining strength and raised her hips from yours, removing the blindfold and laced restraint on your wrists. The two of you savored the feeling of each inch being withdrawn from her slowly. As you both struggled to catch your breath, you held each other tightly as you poked her nose and kissed the top of her forehead. Chaewon traced her name on your chest and fixed your damp, out of place hair.
The plan was originally intended to be you and Chaewon taking a shower together and getting clean. Which the two of you managed to do until you didn’t. Due to the simple nature of being in the shower with a naked woman, your cock grew hard in her hand as she was cleaning you. Making sure to go to the area where the water wasn’t at, Chaewon lathered your cock in soapy suds while you used a loofah and did the same to her thighs. It seemed both of you were thinking the same thing as she turned around and faced away from you.
Grabbing onto her surprisingly wide hips, her thighs squeezed your pulsing shaft in between them. With both of you soaped up, there was minimal effort required as your cock slid through with relative ease. Your hands held onto her as you remained patient and were awarded with savoring the feeling of her heavenly soft thighs and how the top of your cock rubbed against the bottom of her pussy lips.
You kissed Chaewon’s beautiful shoulders and the back of her neck as you continued your suffocatingly slow thrusts. Her warm thighs continued to hug your cock until you erupted. Although it was much weaker and a smaller amount, it was no less pleasurable. You continued to fuck her thighs as she made sure to milk you for all you had left. Your initial two ropes of semen splattered on the glass door loudly. Gradually decreasing the already slow speed of your thrusts while riding out your orgasm, Chaewon softly rubbed her cute butt against your crotch until you stopped.
The two of you properly washed off this time before stepping out of the shower and wrapping yourselves together with one towel. You held Chaewon tightly as the two of you gave each other steamy kisses that mirrored the hot shower just now. Not even bothering to put on clothes, the two of you plopped onto the bed. With one final tender kiss, you savored being in each other’s embrace and quickly drifted off to sleep.
--
“... and that’s how oppa and I started off our morning.” Kim Jungeun could be heard saying.
Park Chaewon opened up her eyes, rubbing the sleep and exhaustion out of them. She blinked several times before her vision readjusted and was greeted with a disapproving frown from Jungeun.
“Seriously…” she complained. “You asked me to tell you why oppa and I were late and you fell asleep during my story.”
“I’m sorry.” Chaewon said. “Been having problems sleeping at home lately.”
“Is everything okay?”
“Yeah… just got a lot on my mind I guess.”
“Things will get better. They always do.”
“Thanks.”
The break room door opens and you enter, greeting Chaewon and Jungeun. You give Chaewon a fist bump before approaching Jungeun who puckers her lips, asking for a kiss. You smiled and honored her request. The loud smack of your lips connecting and disconnecting causes her to smirk in satisfaction.
“I thought you hated kissing at work?” you asked.
“How could I when your lips always taste so yummy… I mean, it’s not like I l-like you or anything. Pig.” Jungeun said, quickly switching from disgustingly sweet to the tsundere, chic woman she was well known as. This earned soft claps from Chaewon, causing Jungeun to groan.
“As expected of the supreme leader.”
The three of you were beginning to discuss where to go for lunch when the break room door is opened once again.
“Oppa. Lieutenant’s looking for you. Says she has some helpful information about a case you’re working on?”
“Got it. Thanks, Hyejoo. Guess we’ll have to take a raincheck on lunch together.” you said, getting up out of your seat. You waved to Chaewon who raised her eyebrows and smiled while kissing Jungeun’s forehead, who didn’t bother to get out of her seat and instead tilted her head up towards you. You flashed them both a peace sign.
“Wait, oppa. What is this?” Jungeun asked, grabbing your wrist which was adorned with a beaded bracelet.
“Oh this?” you said, holding it up. “I found it while cleaning through my things. Hadn’t worn it in years but decided today would be a good day to start. I’ll see you guys later.”
“I’ll call you.” you mouthed to Jungeun before exiting the break room with Hyejoo. Jungeun blushed and couldn’t contain her smile as she happily sipped on her iced americano. She turned to Chaewon who lost all color on her face.
“What’s wrong?” she asked.
“That bracelet…”

ANOTHA REQUEST IM SO SORRY PLS TAKE UR TIME I LOVE UR WRITING & UR BLOG. but anyway may i also request how the sk8 the infinity boys would react to their partner catching them or walking in on them doing an embarrassing habit?? or like a secret talent that they’re embarrassed off :’D and how they would react while their s/o is just laughing bc it’s so cute when they’re flustered [cries]
Tumblr media
okay i got a little carried away with this one... but that's ok!! since this has been sitting in my inbox for awhile!! also PLEASE ur so cute! You dont have to apologize for sending so many requests, just getting a request makes my day that much better!!! <33
also short fics under the cut, they were kinda long i didnt want to make such an obnoxious post on people's feeds :3 ALSO i only did Reki and Langa because i did longer bits!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Reki drummed his fingers against the edge of his desk, jamming out to the music playing in his headphones. He mouthed along to the words to the song, tapping his foot on the floor. He was designing a new deck right now, waiting for you to arrive at his house. It was finally the weekend and you were spending the night at his house, and he was in an amazing mood. He ran his fingers through his hair, his bangs covering his forehead since it was one of the rare times he wasn’t wearing his signature headband. He leaned back in his chair, looking back around the room. He saw it resting near the pillow on his bed so he stood and padded over to grab it.
He picked it up, and right then the chorus of the song started up and Reki got lost in the music. He was snapping his fingers, shaking his head to flip his hair around, swaying his hips to the music, waving his arms to the beat. But, because of the volume, he didn’t hear you greeting his mom and younger sisters down the hall, and the creak of his bedroom door crack open or even see you poke your head in. Seeing Reki dancing in his room certainly was a sight you didn’t think you would ever see, and you leaned against the door, amused. Reki had actually started singing along to the song, and right in the middle of belting out a note he spun around and came face to face with you, and screamed, making you burst out laughing.
His face immediately turned bright red, and he scratched at his neck, bashfully looking away. You wiped tears from your eyes and set your bag down on the edge of his bed,
“I didn’t know you were so musical, babe”
“You don’t have to make it more embarrassing yknow” you pinched his cheeks and cooed at him
“Aww, is my baby Reki embarrassed? You’re so cute!!” He just shook your hands off and went back to his desk to pout, while you smiled and went up behind him, running your fingers through his hair and pulling it out of his face.
“Yknow, that was one of my favorite songs, I would love to sing and dance with you” He smiles at your words, peeking up at you before sitting up a bit and giving you a quick, sweet kiss.
Tumblr media
Langa tapped his fingers against his desk, staring out the window. It was a calm Saturday afternoon, and all he wanted to do was go skate with you. But, his mom wouldn’t let him leave until he had finished all his work. He thought it was extremely childish, but complied and has been sitting at his desk, his blank, unfinished assignment in front of him. His chin was resting him his palm, gaze shifting down to the page where he started absentmindedly doodling on the page. Before he knew it, he had his very own cute little garden scene on his paper. He knew he should stop, but his hand just kept drawing. It was better than doing the assignment anyway.
Langa had texted you and told you about his predicament and you could already tell how bummed out he was, so you decided instead of just cancelling plans all together, you would just skate to his house and ‘help’ him with his homework. You had told him you were heading over, but in the moment Langa read it as a joke, preying on his misfortune. But, he really hoped you would actually show up, not that he would let you see his creative little animal friends he was sketching out.
You arrived at his home, greeted by his mother at the door. She’s delighted to have you over and tells you she thinks it’s a good idea, that you’ll probably help lift Langa’s spirits. Creeping to his room, you decide to scare him. You peek inside, and see him hunched over his desk, and much to your surprise, he looks like he’s working hard on his assignment.
You quietly walk up behind him, peering over his shoulder and you can’t help but gasp, scaring the living daylights out of the baby blue haired boy. His hand clutched at his chest, trying desperately to calm his rapid heartbeat while you snatched the paper from in front of him, admiring it and aweing over it,
“W-wait when did you get here??”
“Awe! Langa I didn’t know you could draw so well!” He snatched the page from you
“I don’t. I just got a little bored...:”
Then you got a look at his flushed face, leaning into his palm as a way to attempt to hide it form you. A poor attempt, but an attempt nonetheless. You could tell he was embarrassed and leaned down to give him a chaste kiss on the cheek, making him blush even more,
“Love you look so cute with your cheeks all flushed!”
“Why must you say such embarrassing things??”
“I just do it ‘cause I love you!” He just sighed. You could be so difficult sometimes.
‘...I love you too…” You stayed silent, before blurting out,
“So when are you gonna draw me a bunch of cute animals?”

Highschool with the Akatsuki
*Modern-Day*
Hidan
Behavioral nightmare. Fidgets, drops things, disrupts others’ work, talks during study/quiet times. Has to be constantly reprimanded for his inappropriate jokes and foul language. Sent to the principal‘s office so much that he was asked his opinion when the man was choosing new carpeting. Most of his friends are exactly like him, so if they’re in the same class they have to be seated clear across the room from each other. Can be a good student when he TRIES; but doesn’t see the point in trying, so will just barely be passing his classes with C’s and D’s. Skinny jeans and Vans with open flannel shirts over white or black tank. Wears a necklace with strange symbol on it, when asked what it represents he’ll say “my religion” but won’t elaborate. In the bathroom between every class grabbing “a quick smoke”. Dyed his hair silver as a joke in the 6th grade, has kept it that way ever since.
Kakuzu
As serious as a heart attack, no matter the situation. Incredibly tall and with a stern face; is almost always mistaken for being the teacher by new kids. Has an impressive collection of “old-man” sweaters. The stingiest guy alive with a buck; will actually make you hand-write him an IOU slip over borrowing 50 cents for the vending machine. Decent in all subjects but a star in Economics. Has one or two “friends” but doesn’t seem particularly close to them (or anyone else for that matter). Doesn’t talk a lot in class but when he does it’s usually because he disagrees with a point the teacher is making, and he isn’t afraid to debate him or her until he’s acknowledged as being correct.
Deidara
Deidara is one of those people who needs constant stimulation to keep him engaged in whatever’s going on. Since school tends to involve a lot of tedious repetition, paying attention in class isn’t something he’s the best at. Most likely to “finish up” his homework assignments five minutes before class starts. Grades tend to fall in the B-/C+ range. The type to always pick a seat that’s in the back of the room and/or closest to the window. Has a sketchbook that he carries around with him wherever he goes. Style consists of ripped jeans over fishnets, combat boots, fingerless gloves, band t-shirts and oversized pullover hoodies. Super-long hair tied back in ponytail. One of the first (and only) people at school to *openly* identify as pansexual; gets asked out a lot but always declines everyone because dating “would interfere with his artistic process”. Doesn’t speak a lot in class unless the topic particularly interests him, in which case he will ramble on and on until politely stopped by the teacher. His table at lunch will always be full because others are drawn to his energy and charisma. The art room is his home away from home; on a first-name basis with the instructor.
Sasori
The smart, quiet kid. Tends to keep to himself and always appears to be in his own little world. Doesn’t ever seem to be paying attention in class, but when the teacher randomly calls on him, he has the right answer every single time. Always gets A’s but will get upset over a “low A” (in the 90-94% range). A good budgeter of time and will usually manage to get most of his homework done at lunch or during study hall. Has a (small) core group of friends and not looking to add to it anytime soon. Wears a lot of khakis and long-sleeved shirts or sweaters (even in the summer). Because of his organizational skills, technical mind, and proficiency in using tools, he excels in woodshop; often informally used by the teacher as an “assistant” to help other students with their projects. Absolutely hates gym (his small stature and delicate nature make physical exertion difficult for him); this will be the only class he doesn’t try for an A in, as he skips it as often as possible.
Itachi
Dear God, the girls ((and quite a few guys)) are crazy over this boy. Is thought of as being brooding, and mysterious ... and gut-wrenchingly handsome. Very quiet, rarely speaks in class, but when he DOES, it’s always something deep and profound. Top student grade-wise. Long dark hair and soulful eyes. Style is all black, distressed baggy pants with chains, long-sleeved band or anime shirts, boots, fishnet gloves, heavy silver bracelets and rings. Is polite to everyone but only has a handful of actual friends. Submits poems and short stories anonymously to the school paper; always gets published. Is occasionally persuaded by his teachers to volunteer as a student tutor; line will be literally out the door from people seeking his “help”. Has friends in the drama club so will go to every single school play to be supportive, even if all friend did was lighting or scenery.
Kisame
Tall and athletic; captain of the swim team. Isn’t the most handsome guy but popular because of his personality. Not really the best student, but keeps his grades up enough to be able to keep playing sports. Sweatpants, Nikes, and Letterman’s jacket. The type to step in when he sees somebody getting bullied. Has a secret love for Orchestra music and likes to sit outside the band room when it’s members have rehearsals. Friends with/friendly to absolutely everybody. Will go through more than one tray at lunch. Shines the brightest during gym class. Also a surprisingly good cook; will voluntarily take Home Economics as an elective and be one of the best bakers in the class.
Obito
Known around school as “that one guy with the mask”. Was apparently in a bad accident as a child that left the side of his face heavily scarred; adopted the practice of wearing solid-color face masks to cover damage. Teachers are made aware of his situation so no one ever tries to make him take it off; although he will do so at lunch, at a table of his close friends. Smart and articulate, everyone turns to look at him when he speaks in class. Tall and moves quickly (and silently); nobody ever knows he’s there until he’s right behind them. Dark jeans, boots and will always wear a leather jacket or trench coat, even on ridiculously hot days. Doesn’t laugh a lot but when he does, the sound of it could make anyone fall in love. A big eater of sweets; will always have some kind of candy on him that he will quietly slip beneath the mask and eat during class. When caught by teacher, will claim he had low blood sugar, and because he’s a good student otherwise he won’t be questioned further on it. The type to, at the beginning of the school year, sign up for a ton of after-school clubs, stay in them for a week, decide they’re boring, and duck out.
Zetsu
Oddball kid who sits by himself and talks to himself more than seems normal. Teachers have learned early on not to call on him in class, because he’ll just sit there and give them a silent, intent stare until they move on to someone else. Surprisingly good grades despite never talking/participating. Wears cargo shorts, T-shirts and sandals with socks, no matter the weather. Always goes outside in-between class periods; sometimes misses class altogether just to nap under a tree with his face in the sun. Eventually founds and is “captain” of the school’s gardening club; not many members but the ones that do join are very environmentally conscious, modern-day “hippies”.
Pein
Legitimately has like, 9000 piercings. There’s not an inch of this guys face that doesn’t have a shiny silver stud in it. Red and black seem to be the only colors in his wardrobe; lots of button-up shirts and zip hoodies. Has a ridiculously deep voice and is always super-intense, even when just hanging out with friends. In group projects, he’s always very quickly designated as the Leader. In his group of friends, it’s clear he’s the Leader. Not the best grades but above-average. Spends a lot of time with the blue-haired girl; it’s always rumored that they’re dating although both parties have claimed to be “just friends”. A terrifyingly persuasive arguer; joins and becomes star of the debate team within a week. The type to ask a very deep, pointed question during class and change the entire course of the teacher’s lecture.
Konan
The type to have a lot of close male friends but almost zero female ones. Tends to be the “mom” amongst her group. Excellent student, always the top marks in her class. A lot of admirers but always politely turns down potential suitors. Some piercings but nothing very extravagant. The school used to have a very strict rule about dying one’s hair “wild colors”, but she dyed hers blue and led a successful protest regarding freedom of expression. Her favorite class is literature, especially when they get to the Greek Mythology and Shakespeare units. Does origami as a hobby; when bored in class will sit and tear up bits of paper or napkins and create gorgeous little flowers. Clean and organized in every aspect EXCEPT for her locker, which is a (legendary) jumbled and unholy catastrophe.

nobody's leaving (we're just going away) // a Teen Wolf ficlet
about: a late/post 6A moment where Stiles worries about what comes next and Lydia keeps him steady. Stiles/Lydia. + read on ao3
notes: I wanted to see them be a couple. I love what we got in 6A. It’s great. But I wish we could have seen them be a couple damnit. so here's some fluff with a hint of angst.
.
.
Post-Wild Hunt, Lydia tends to stick closer to Stiles. He’s not complaining. He’s spent the majority of his life waiting for this moment. His dad might be sick of waking up to find Lydia in their house, or her car beside his in the driveway. Ms. Martin is absolutely sick of Stiles popping up with dinner and flowers that he drops into the vase on the kitchen counter and yet another little cupcake from the bakery that she likes. She swears that she likes going to the bakery herself, but that never stops her from eating his ‘let me sleepover at your house’ bribes. Besides, they all know that Stiles would be climbing through the windows if their parents didn’t give the okay.
But the point is that Lydia is the same way. She orders extra groceries for the Stilinski household. She gets Stiles to keep his stuff at least somewhat organized and to designate specific spaces for his growing collection of baseball bats. She finds the perfect sparkling lemonade for family dinner nights, and she keeps Stiles company when his nightmares are filled with long train horns and wind that never stops blowing.
She personally makes sure that he catches up on the assignments needed to graduate. “You’re graduating with us, Stiles,” she keeps saying as a mantra. “You really want to stay here with Liam?”
Stiles scrunches his face from his desk chair. “No offense to him, but absolutely not.”
Lydia chuckles from her spot on the bed. She’s seated on the edge, which makes the fact that she’s here, on his bed, slightly less distracting.
She teases him, “You don’t want to babysit the new Alpha?”
Stiles laughs, then groans again at the thought of leaving Beacon Hills up to Liam. Thankfully, Mason and Corey will still be here. Hayden can help ground Liam, but none of them are necessarily ready to be left in charge.
“We could all stay here another year,” Stiles suggests. “We could…” He scoots his chair up to the bed. She presses her legs up to the edge to make it that much easier for him to slip up in front of her. His hands come to her thighs. She only gives a slightly narrowed warning glance. “I don’t know, make up for lost time.”
“That’s what we’re doing with your homework,” she tells him. Her pointed gaze goes to the textbook he left behind on his desk.
“All work and no play,” he mumbles as he slides his hands up a little higher on her thighs. She blinks slow on an inhale. He would laugh if it weren’t so damn hot to see her respond to him. Her want him. “Or you come with me. I can pack you into my Jeep—“
Her voice sounds winded. “I think you mean my Jeep. I paid for it.”
“A drop fee,” he corrects dismissively. Her perfect eyebrows lift up.
“It still counts.”
He wants to argue, but it is nice to have something together. “Fine, it can be our Jeep.”
She hums in thought, and he leans over to brush his lips against her pouty ones just because he can. Because she loves him, and he loves her, and they can finally be together.
Until graduation and distance and — he pulls away, and her lips follow his.
“Come back,” she says.
“I will.” His voice comes out like stone. “I always will. You know that, right?”
She must feel the gravity in his tone. As sure as he feels the curiosity and reassurance in hers.
“Stiles, you survived the Wild Hunt. We can handle DC.”
He sighs. His long exhale becomes a draft between them. “I just got you back,” he admits. “I just got my life back, and…. You all had time to get used to everything changing. I….”
“Hey.” Her hands come up to his cheeks. She scratches at the side of his jaw with her thumb. Grounds him and models a steady stream of breathing that makes his chest feel slightly less like it’s being compressed. “You’re not getting rid of me. I know I used to complain about you using me as some kind of supernatural—“
“Metal detector,” he finishes for her.
She nods. “But when you were gone, I woke up every night and stared at my phone, waiting for it to ring. I don’t say this so that you try to whisk me away to the capital, or reinstate those nightly patrols. I say this because I want to be here with you. Even at your worst, and your most paranoid—“
“I was right. The Ghost Riders—“
She kisses him to stop his sentence. He willingly lets it go. She pulls away just enough to say, “I’ll come back too.”
He slides his hands up to her hips and tugs. She shifts from the bed to his lap. He thanks his past self for buying a chair without arms so that she can fit on top of him with her legs hanging from the back of the chair. Her chest to his chest, her lips finding their home on his again.
They kiss until they’re breathless. She rests her forehead on his. “But I’m not dating a high schooler once I graduate. So five minutes, and then homework.”
He leans back in the chair. She slips lower onto his lap, and he smirks as the new position gets a squeak out of her. “Only five?” He kisses her neck.
“Mm, maybe a little longer….”
“Mhm, maybe a lot longer.” Especially if neither of them are going anywhere. Why not make the most of it, right?
