The Reading Rope Unwound: Translating Science into Special Education Strategies
The challenges of imparting proficient reading skills are amplified in a middle school special education setting. With the insights gained from the LETRS training, the task of blending theory with practical instructional strategies becomes a promising venture. The objective is clear: to build a bridge from the foundational theories of reading to actionable teaching strategies that cater to the…

i know that we are all obsessed with the fact that jean has been texting renee about jeremy (as we should be) but can we just pause and take a second to think about how renee is texting jean about jeremy!
because she liked jean. no matter how serious you interpret their feelings for one another to be, she genuinely liked him. and it’s only been a couple months since jean left south carolina and moved to california. meaning that it’s only been a couple months since their moment at the foxhole court and “We are the right people, I think… This is just… the wrong time.” it’s only been a couple months since they had to walk away from each other, both pained by that, and had to come to terms, on their own, with the fact that whatever romantic feelings they had for one another would never work out. they may have mutually agreed on it, but renee was the one to step up and be like “it’s okay. i very easily could have given you my whole heart but that’s not in the cards for us.” even though she had fallen for jean. because she cares about him so much, not just romantically but as his friend. so she walked away and wished him healing and light and happiness knowing that she couldn’t give it to him, knowing they wouldn’t work together. can we take a second to pause and recognize the pain, maybe even the heartbreak, she felt over that?(1)
but slowly, thousands of miles away from each other, renee and jean accepted who they could be for each other and allowed the love in their hearts to reshape into friendship. they figured out how to exist in this current context. just as, slowly, their texts shifted from renee giving jean an escape from his thoughts to them talking like friends do, in an equal exchange, because jean was healing and found people who loved him and were helping him learn to lean in them and how to stand on his own. just like she had wished for him.
and so when renee asks about california and jean feels comfortable enough in his head to relay his thoughts to her, she starts to hear about this pseudo partner(2), sunshine captain that jean has. she picks up on how he is helping jean more than anyone else and she knows. she can feel the admiration and affection hidden and not so hidden in his words. maybe it even feels similar to what she read through his texts when they held romantic feelings for her. and even though some part of her found it to be a little painful, she gives him space to come to terms with his feelings and work through his internalized homophobia and is happy for him through it all. she is supportive and glad (and very aware which tells us jean has talked about jeremy a lot), enough so that she is comfortable being cheeky about jean’s crush to him — “The dog is also cute.”
i am just of the firm opinion that we should think about that some more. because it’s beautiful and their friendship means a lot to me. renee walker and her huge, deeply caring heart mean a lot to me. and people should recognize how lovely she is more often
very much not saying this to try to guilt trip people or something. i just think we as a fandom tend to be very male-centric and that considering things from all points of view provides more insights into all characters. and i think that considering things from the point of view of the women in the series is quite important too
not pseudo as in jeremy is not jean’s partner because he very much is. i am referring to how it is an imitation of the raven partner system which renee definitely knows about and can understand the role jeremy is sorta filling.

the merlin fandom truly are the most unhinged (affectionate) subsect of people on the internet. any other fandom you post a rambling meta post and it will get maybe like two or three notes. say that same thing and tag it #bbc merlin and a tide of furies descend upon it and rip it to shreds hungrily like starved maenads in a bacchanalia. you give these bitches something even resembling literary analysis and they become possessed by a violent hunger and go immediately insane. truly the best way to engage with fandom if you ask me

In honor of 10/10, here is part of a new Fox fic I’m working on.
CC-1010 was a liar.
Fox, on the other hand, is a dirty rotten liar and a smug bitch.
Before having a name, 1010 might brag to his brothers about getting away with things. Fox learned that the true victory was in the fact that no one even knew they’d been fooled.
“Put that back!”
Vixen gave Fox the cutest puppy eyes he’d ever seen. They would have worked if Fox hadn’t caught him practicing in the mirror several weeks ago.
“He’ll know we were here!” Fox hissed.
Senator Grizzly Bear and his wife Smokey were in the middle of the nastiest divorce Fox had ever seen. Threats of physical violence had become increasingly frequent until a restraining order was placed on both of them. Every time they’ve had to meet with the judge since the proceedings were held in the hallway, allowing each to sit at opposite ends from their spouse.
The Coruscant Guard had absolutely no jurisdiction or personal stake, but followed the case with glee. Good entertainment was hard to come by after all.
Smokey Bear had recently threatened to hire thugs to break into Senator Bear's penthouse and steal half of everything of worth.
In a wild turn of events, the woman had died of alcohol poisoning earlier that night. The only witnesses were Hound and CMO Copper, who immediately rushed to hide the body and inform Fox of the recently discovered financial opportunity.
And now Fox, Sparrow, and Vixen were sneaking around Senator Grizzly Bear's penthouse, taking anything and everything worth a decent amount of credits.
Vixen, however, was determined to crack every safe in the place. Smokey Bear did not know any of the codes to the safes though. Fox was brave enough to admit to himself that it hurt watching his kid put hundreds of credits back into the open wall safe that had previously been hidden behind a very expensive painting.
Y’all will never guess what the fic is actually about cause this is just the intro. I gotta establish how regularly Fox does crime.

When you encounter the gaze of the Other, you meet not a seeing eye but a blind one. The gaze is not clear or penetrating, not filled with knowledge or recognition; it is clouded over and turned back on itself, absorbed in its own enjoyment. The horrible truth … is that the gaze does not see you. … You are on your own; the gaze of the Other is not confirming, it will not validate you.

#oh my god what does his MUM THINK? ( @elizabethrobertajones )
My head has been swimming with all sorts of thoughts about everyone's reactions and how I wanna write it up VS making screenshots but!!
There's definitely a sense of loss? A grief? Watching your kids grow up is one thing, and I think she's a very mature lady and graciously accepts that and enjoys watching where her children are going, but suddenly having a jump of thirty years is like... whew.
And in some (most?) ways it's more about what HE went through, the one who actually felt the weight of those years and that distance. And then there's just the relief and gratitude that he's alive, that he's healthy and safe. And that of course is the most important thing above all, and the thing she ends up holding on to, along with the sense of pride in how well he's grown up and overcome everything - even though she sorely wishes it hadn't happened to him.
So initially there is a period of grieving and motherly guilt at the immensity of this change and the ramifications it has on his life, and yeah this guilt of 'You endured thirty years and it's only been months for me and there's no genuine way I can make that easier for you, except, to be here for you.' So she quickly sets that aside to focus on being supportive and helping him with any re-adjusting. And honestly, she probably covertly spoils him a little extra, now. 😂
