Okay love how An Ungodly Dream started!!!
Thank you for taking my request into consideration, I love it, of course I would like a little more angsty part, you can take as much time as you like, I'm in no hurry and neither should you💜💜
Here’s part 2! This one gets pretty angsty. Warning: Mentions of demons/demon activity, Death, Also gets suggestive. PART 1 HERE
An Ungodly Dream
Tumblr media
Even if you had 1,000 chances to guess how you’d be spending a Thursday night you never would’ve guessed sitting in your living room talking to a demon but here you are. “Soooo Yoongi, were you born a demon or how did this happen?”, you asked unsure if that was even okay to ask but you weren’t sure about boundaries when it came to demons. He chuckled, “It’s kind of a long story but no I wasn’t born a demon. I actually signed a contract with this guy and in exchange for him doing something for me I agreed to become one his servants.” You nodded unsure of what your next question should be.
Yoongi could tell that you had a lot more on your mind. He began, “Look Y/N there’s a lot about this you’ll never understand but I’ll try to make it as simple as I can. About six years ago I was really in love with this girl. She was my everything. One day she passed out at home and after they ran some tests in the emergency room they told us she had incurable brain cancer and was given three months to live. I was devastated and I knew I’d do anything to not loose her.” He ran his hands over his face and sighed. This story was clearly hard for him to tell but he continued anyways, “One night shortly after that, I went to a bar to try and drink away the pain. While there I met a man who told me his name was Jin. He said he could take away any pain in the world in exchange for something small. He had my attention so I followed him to a back room. He pulled out a piece of paper that I didn’t really understand but at the time I didn’t really care. He basically said he would heal my girlfriend so that she’d be cancer free and all I had to do was agree to work for him. In my drunken grieving state I didn’t even ask any questions, not even how he knew about the cancer when I never even told him that. I signed the paper and before I could say anything else he was gone. Well a week goes by and I assume it must’ve just been a drunken dream because nothing has happened. Then we go to my girlfriends appointment and there are like nine doctors from all over the world. One of them pulls up her brain scan from the day before and tells us how the cancer is completely gone. They’ve never seen anything like it before and it’s a medical miracle that she was cancer free. I was ecstatic. The love of my life was healed and no longer weeks from death. I didn’t even think about the contract that I signed. So a couple weeks go by and I come home from work and hear a strange sound coming from the bedroom. I gently pushed opened the door and saw my girlfriend in bed with another guy. When I confronted them she told me that she had a new lease on life or some bullshit like that and didn’t want to be tied down to one person any more. So I packed a bag and went back to the bar to drink away the heartbreak. That’s when I felt a tap on my shoulder and saw Jin standing there. He told me how he had held up his end of the contract and now it was my turn. So I’ve spent the last six years doing his bidding all for a girl who in the end didn’t even love me and I have no way out of it.”
You were speechless. Yoongi’s eyes didn’t move from the the coffee cup on the table in front of him. After some time you reached out and grabbed his hand, “I’m really sorry that happened to you Yoongi. I really am.” He gave you a small smile. “Any other questions?”, he asked trying to change the subject. “Um yeah a ton but I don’t even really know where to begin. What kind of things do you normally do for this Jin guy? Is there anyway for you to break the contract? Maybe a lawyer or something?” Yoongi chuckled at that, “Do you really think there are lawyers that specialize in demon contracts? No there’s no way out. Either fulfill the contract or cease to exist basically. As far as what I do. I do a little bit of everything. I’m a master of all trades.” There was that cockiness again that you hated but also kind of found attractive. He continued, “It depends on why I was summoned or what Jin had planned for me. Sometimes I’ll make deals with people and have them sign contracts to lure them in. Sometimes I’ll be an incubus if that’s what is requested of me.” You cleared your throat unsure if you want to ask your next question or if you’re just scared of the answer. You forgot that he can read minds but he answers before you can even ask. “I only physically hurt people if I’m commanded to by Jin. He’s like my boss. It’s rare for that to happen though. He mostly only cares about getting people to sign away their lives. The more contracts he has the more powerful he is.”
You nodded in acceptance of his answer feeling a little better. You had so many more questions but decided that it was late and he had opened up enough for the night. “So do you sleep or how does this work?”, you asked unsure of yourself. Yoongi smiled, “I can sleep. I don’t have to but sometimes it’s nice to just relax and pretend to be fully human again.” You awkwardly chuckled being reminded that this beautiful man in front of you was not actually human any more. “Go to sleep Y/N. I’ll be alright out here. We still have a lot to discuss tomorrow.”, he smiled over at you. You nodded and began walking back to your bedroom before turning around, “Goodnight Yoongi.” He smiled back at you, “Goodnight Y/N.”
Somehow you managed to fall asleep for a few hours before your alarm went off signaling you it was time to get ready for work. You quickly showered and changed eager to find out what your new demon roommate was up to. You weren’t expecting to walk into the kitchen and find a large breakfast prepared for you including pancakes, blueberry muffins, an omelette, and fresh squeezed orange juice and hot coffee. “Morning sleepyhead”, Yoongi smiled before handing you a mug. “I didn’t know you could cook.”, you said happily taking some coffee. “I used to be human or did you forget already.”, he laughed. You rolled your eyes, “No I didn’t forget. I just didn’t ever expect demons to be this nice. You know, usually they’re more demon-ish.” Yoongi smirked as he sat down next to you taking a bite of a muffin. “Not all demons are like that. Of course there are ‘bad’ demons but a lot of them are like me. We’re just trying to survive after making the choices that we did.”, he said taking a sip of juice. You nodded and silently ate your breakfast.
Yoongi told you to leave the dishes as he’d do them later since he had nothing else to do. You reluctantly agreed before grabbing your purse. “When I get back from work we can talk some more.”, you told him. He nodded before walking you to the door. “Oh and there might be some chicken in the fridge. You know in case you wanted to whip up something for dinner later.”, you said and he chuckled taking your hint. “Yes Dear. Anything else?”, he asked. You shook your head before saying a quick goodbye and closing the door behind you.
The day went by surprisingly quick. It probably had to do with the fact that you couldn’t wait to get home to see Yoongi. Somehow you found yourself actually kind of missing him. So once 5:00pm hit you found yourself rushing home quickly kicking off your shoes by the door and walking into the kitchen greeting Yoongi who was hard at work putting the finishing touches on dinner. “I hope you like it. It’s been a while since I cooked like this.”, he said shyly. “It looks amazing plus anything is better than what I would’ve been able to make.”, you chuckled. Taking a bite of the food you smiled. “It’s so good Yoongi. You’d really make a good husband one day.”, you said not noticing his shoulders drop at the compliment. The two of you ate in silence and then you washed the dishes with Yoongi’s help because he insisted. After you changed into some comfy clothes you met Yoongi who was already sitting on the couch mindlessly watching something on the tv. When he saw you walk in he shut it off, “I’m guessing you want to talk about some things.”
You nodded, “Yeah we probably should.” There was a long silence until you spoke, “How do I release you back since I summoned you on accident?” He bit his lip, “Well there are three ways to do that. The first being that I complete a task for you, it would be the reason you summoned me to begin with. The second is to have you sign a contract and you basically become one of us. The third is we have to wait for the next full moon and on that day we would follow the guidelines in that book you were reading. Looking at our options we’ll probably have to go with the third one.” You fidgeted with the hem of your shirt, “I mean we could look at the other options. I know I didn’t intend to summon you but my boss has been a real jerk lately so maybe I can have you go mess with him a little. You know slam some doors. Open all of his kitchen cabinets in the middle of the night.” He laughed, “Y/N I’m a demon. Not a poltergeist. You’ve said it yourself that you didn’t mean to summon me. And there’s no way I’m letting you sign any contract so our only option is number three.”
Nodding in agreement you got up and retrieved the book from your room turning to the chapter on demons. Yoongi helped you flip through the pages before finding what he was looking for, “There that’s it.” You began reading through the pages wanting to laugh at the ridiculousness of it all but at this point nothing shocks you anymore. You checked your phone, “Okay the next full moon is in three weeks.”, you said. “Okay then I guess we’re gonna get to know each other.”, Yoongi smiled. You wanted to say something sarcastic but deep down you felt your heart flutter at the thought.
The two of you spent the following week acting like an old married couple. You’d bicker about minor things only to return back to normal shortly after. He cooked you breakfast and dinner every day and even packed your lunch a couple days. The two of you ended up cuddling on the couch one night after falling asleep leading to you both waking up feeling awkward and confused.
Thankfully it was the weekend so you were able to get to spend more time with each other. It was Saturday evening and the two of you had decided to go out to dinner. Admittedly you maybe put a little more effort into your outfit than you needed to but it was worth it when you walked out and saw Yoongi checking you out. “You look very nice this evening.”, he said offering you his arm to hold onto. “Thank you. You clean up nice yourself.”, you responded. Since the weather was so nice and the restaurant wasn’t too far the two of you decided to walk. As you passed a group of guys standing against a wall Yoongi protectively put himself between you and the men while keeping his arm left arm around your waist. Just as you walked by them Yoongi suddenly stopped and whipped his head around to glare at one of the men wearing a blue baseball cap. “Weren’t you ever taught to respect women asshole? She’s not a toy for you to use as you please.”, he spat. Yoongi grabbed your hand and quickly pulled you away from the men before you could even question him but you assumed the guy had thought something provocatively about you and Yoongi heard his thoughts. You felt a smile creep up at the thought that he felt the need to defend you like that.
Dinner was one of the best nights you’d ever had. Yoongi had lots of stories about things he had done and seen. You listened very closely taking it all in. After dinner the two of you made your way back to your apartment and once inside you let your feelings overtake your brain. The alcohol from dinner probably didn’t help but you instinctively wrapped your hands around Yoongi’s neck pulling him closer to you and placing a kiss on his lips. You waited to see if he’d push you away. When he didn’t you pulled him in again and deepened the kiss. Then you moved to his dress shirt and you started unbuttoning it one by one as Yoongi removed the sweater you were wearing over your strapless dress.
The two of you made your way to your bedroom where Yoongi pushed you down onto your bed before going in for another kiss. The kisses went back and forth moving from your lips to various parts of your body. In-between kisses you managed a whispered, “Yoongi.” Not stopping he mumbled something which you took him as acknowledging you. You placed another kiss to his lips before speaking, “I think I’m falling in love with you.”
You weren’t sure what you expected. Hopefully for him reciprocate the feelings. At the worst just ignore you and pretend he didn’t hear you. What you didn’t expect was for him to jump back like something had just bit him. “Yoongi what’s wrong? Did I hurt you?”, you asked concerned. “We can’t do this Y/N. There can’t be anything between us. We’re not the same and I’m not going to risk you being dragged down with me.”, he said quickly buttoning back up his shirt. “Yoongi I don’t understand. Everything has been so good between us. We can figure something out.”, you said reaching for him. He shook his head taking a step back from you, “No Y/N. It’s not like a long distance relationship or something. This is serious. There are things you just don’t understand. I ruined my life and I have to pay that price. I won’t let that also hurt you.” “Yoongi please. Help me understand. I’ll do what it takes to be with you.”, you cried. You watched at Yoongi opened your bedroom door. He turned around to look at you, “No Y/N. I won’t let you do that. I’m gonna stay in the spare room until the full moon is here and we can follow the protocol to release me. Just stay away from me until then. It’s for your own good.”
With that he walked out and shut the door behind him. You heard the faint click of the door to the spare room shut next to you. Sitting on the bed you began to sob into your pillow. You knew he was right. He was a demon after all and you seemed to forget that little detail. But even after you reminded yourself of that you still couldn’t help but feel your heart breaking at the fact that the man you loved was in the room next to yours but you were never going to be able to have him. Unless maybe you signed a contract of your own…

All Over Again - Chapter 1
Summary: What was lost can be found. - DC & Marvel AU
Pairings: Lena x Reader ; Implied Natasha x Reader ; Platonic!Avengers x Reader ; Platonic!Superfriends x Reader
Warning: 18+ Smut, Language, Violence
* * * * * *
Sighing, you splay yourself out on the grass, looking up at the distorted view of the sky as the red leaves of the tree above you sway. The gentle breeze sends a chill over your skin but it’s much too calming for you to move.
“Am I going to have to start carrying jackets around with me again?”
The familiarly sultry voice meets your ears over the sounds of nature. It makes your heart thump faster like it always had but this time an ache accompanies it. Her joking tone holds an underlying nervousness and you have to resist the urge to scoff at the drastic change in your conversations together.
You could never forget the moment everything shifted. Your entire relationship with Natasha fell to pieces. All the love and trust that had grown stronger each year that you were together seemed to mean nothing to her suddenly.
Months on the run from the U.S. government, planning your futures together, it blew to hell in literal seconds.
Everything you’d grown to know and love was pulled out from underneath you with three simple words: Hi, Bruce. Followed by the awkward pause and nervous, Nat.
Hope rose in your girlfriend’s eyes and you were unsure why. The main reason being that you were recruited by Fury during the Sokovia incident. You never met the infamous Bruce Banner turn Hulk, and didn't know about his history with your girl. And Natasha hadn’t found it necessary to tell you about it either.
Which left you in the dark and completely blindsided by Natasha’s decision to end things with you. Simply telling you she owed it to herself to see where things with Bruce went. And you being the person you are and loving Natasha the way that you do, you wanted her to be happy despite your heartbreak.
All of that rested on your shoulders at the same time that Thanos appeared. Your broken heart seemed to shatter further when you lost your best friend Wanda and the many friends you’d gained.
For five years you hurt. Grieving your lost friends and dealing with your broken heart. It seemed as though Natasha breaking up with you wasn’t even worth it as Banner left after Thanos and they didn’t see each other for five years.
Even after the five years though, you still were coping with your heartbreak despite the Avengers having gotten rid of Thanos for good. As you then had the privilege of seeing Natasha and Bruce together. And you could admit that they look good together, happy.
Which means you need to find your own. You just aren’t sure how.
You take a deep breath and look up at the redhead who’s watched you in your silence.“ I hadn’t planned on staying out here long so I didn’t grab one.” You respond, deciding to ignore her not so subtle hint at your relationship and personal quirk.
Jackets are just the last thing you think about before you leave out and Natasha used to take it upon herself to bring one for you whenever you were with her.
She smiles tightly and nods,“ okay. Well I was just coming to let you know that Steve and Bucky are almost done with dinner.”
When you nod in answer Natasha waits, silently debating if she wanted to say anything else or not, but chose not to and finally walked away. You waited a few extra minutes before pushing yourself up and heading toward the compound.
As you’re walking up to the door, your red leather clad friend lands beside you, her magic vanishing from her hands before she flings her arms around you.
“Hello to you too.” You chuckle, hugging her back.
Wanda smiles brightly,“ hi.”
A small smile of your own hitting your lips. You’d missed the young woman as she was away on a mission with Sam. They weren’t far, just on the East Coast, but they’d been gone for a week, which was more than enough for you to begin to miss her.
Before either of you step into the building, she grabs your hand and laces your fingers together, gently tugging you off to the side. Soft light green eyes stare back sympathetically,“ how are you?”
“Wan-” you sigh, running a hand up and through your hair.
“I’m just worried about you.” A little pout hits her lips followed by a joking smile,“ and I’m kind of the only reason you’re sane.”
You throw your head back with a laugh. Then shaking your head and wrapping an arm around her shoulders,“ I’m fine Wanda. Thank you for the concern and sanity.”
Placing a quick kiss to her temple, you guide her into the building, more than happy to have your best friend back.
Like Natasha had told you, Steve and Bucky already have the table set and everyone is sitting around. No matter how hard you try, your gaze finds Bruce and Natasha, the man leans over to say something to her and a cute smile rises, reminding you of the one you’d caused her to have before.
A squeeze of your hand pulls your eyes away and you nod to Wanda before sitting down beside her. Usual chatter circles the table, Sam and Wanda talking a bit about the mission briefly, and then asking all of you about what’s been going on.
By the end of dinner you’re a mix of annoyed and happy. Your friends had made you laugh and smile just like usual, except every time you got lost in the joy of it all you forgot what was across from you and your gaze caught the image of Natasha and Bruce flirting, laughing, and smiling. It makes you so upset that you still wish it were you with her.
It’s been six years! What happens to time heals all wounds? Was that just a load of shit? Would you genuinely have to deal with being all bitter and jealous for the rest of your life.
“Welp,” you smack your hands to your thighs,“ Steve, Buck, dinner was incredible, thank you, but I have a few things I need to attend to so if you’ll excuse me.” Standing, you grab your plate and glass.
“Not so fast Y/Ln,” his voice rings clear not but a second after you walked away.“ You’re all here for once so I’d like to inform you that you’ll all be attending the Stark Industries Investment dinner tomorrow night.” Tony smiles, eyes crinkling in the corners.
Your eyes narrow,“ what exactly would the Avengers be doing for your companies investors.”
“Persuading, encouraging, indulging. Investors would kill to hear mission stories and about all your equipment.” His tone is sweet, as if he’s trying to convince you all to come.
A party/dinner isn’t exactly what you’re feeling up to right now. And quite frankly it’s not necessary for every Avenger to show up.
From the looks of Steve’s face he isn’t going but you still have a bit of hope that is, until he speaks up,“ Bucky and I have a mission.”
Tony gives an expectant gaze to the rest of you.
“I’m always down to party.” Sam shrugs nonchalantly before returning to his food, pretty sure this is his third plate.
Bruce sighs,“ I’m under the impression that this isn’t an option for me.”
Tony’s grimace is answer enough, but he still says,“ it is not. Also, no offense, probably don’t show up all big and green. The venue is large but-”
“Ah ah ah I got it.” The big green man waves his hand, then smiling down at Natasha,“ mind accompanying me?” She instantly smiles and nods and that small little gesture is enough for you to head out.
Further, Tony goes,“ Maximoff?”
And Wanda responds,“ I’ll only go if Y/n does.”
Dammit Wanda!
Turning on your heel, you have every intention of saying no. Only to find her giving you that damn pout, followed by her whispering,“ please.”
“Alright whatever.”
With that you leave, cleaning your dishes, and then going straight to bed. In the morning you take extra care to avoid Natasha, you eat while she’s in the gym, only going to train after she’s long gone, and eating lunch on the roof with Wanda.
You make it as far as into the venue for the Investment dinner before you have to see her again. Even then you wish you were blind.
God she’s beautiful. It’s criminal the way that dress fits on her. And just as your eyes trail up her long legs and over the curves of her body to her piercing green eyes, her looking back at you pulls you to reality.
You no longer have the right to look at her that way. No matter how good she looks, you can’t look at her like that. No, the man beside her is the only person who carries that privilege.
“I’m gonna need a drink to get through this.” You sigh, beeligning for the bar instead of your seat.
Wanda sticks close to you, definitely having seen your staring.
Leaning against the bar, you wait for the bartender to come your way, then asking for an old-fashioned and you wait. Beside you, Wanda’s eyes flicker over the room, a nervousness in them.
“Hey,” you nudge her arm with your elbow,“ I’d say it’s not that bad but it is.” The young woman’s eyebrows raise but you wave it off,“ you just have to put up with most people speaking to you like you know less because you make less. Other than that it’s alright.”
As she takes in your words, you accept your drink from the bartender and hand Wanda a flute of champagne. She’s not a drinker but the little boost is needed.
With a reassuring smile to her and the last swig of your drink and guide her through the scattered crowd to Pepper. The blonde is more than happy to walk Wanda around, introducing her to a few people while you make rounds on your own.
Just like usual, most conversations revolve around everyone else’s business, or the occasional question about your work that you can’t even discuss. But you manage to do as Tony asked, impressing them with talks of your abilities and that of which you can disclose.
Majority of the people you talk to take a liking to you, or at least the superhero you, and you convince them to invest in Stark Industries, giving the whole “a company that leads in medical and technological advancements” spiel.
“Still hate these things huh.”
Breathing in deeply, you exhale and turn to face Natasha. Her green eyes watch you cautiously and you’re in genuine disbelief that the badass Black Widow is so wary of you. Since the breakup she’s interacted with you as if she’s afraid you’ll hurt her.
You lick your lips,“ Natasha you speak to me like you don’t know me anymore.”
A sigh falls from her lips and she looks down at the bracelet on her wrist,“ I know. I’m sorry I just- I don’t want to say anything I shouldn’t.”
“Right,” you scoff lowly.“ You don’t have to worry about my feelings anymore I promise.”
“Y/n I-”
“Nat.” Bruce approaches, completely oblivious to the awkward tension flowing between you and his girlfriend.“ I’m sorry, do you mind if I steal her away for a moment.”
You smile bitterly,“ oh she is all yours.”
Green eyes look at you with an unreadable emotion but you brush it off, walking away with a glance back that reveals Bruce twirling the redhead on to the dance floor.
You square your shoulders with a deep inhale and head back to the one place that you’ve been able to breathe tonight.
“Another old fashioned please.” The lady nods and quickly makes the drink and you smile in thanks.
Taking a long swig from the dark liquor, you sigh contentedly at the burning trail down your throat. Your few seconds of peace interrupted by a deep voice speaking cockily.
“A beautiful girl like yourself drinking dark liquor leads me to believe you’re not enjoying yourself.” The man smiles brightly showing off his, no doubt surgically whitened, teeth.“ Perhaps I could change that for you.”
Narrowing your eyes at him, you pointedly down the rest of the drink, and tap the bartop in call for another.“ Bold of you to assume that I’m not having a good time.”
Before he can reply with his planned flirtatious remark, a lightly accented soft voice joins in,“ I’m sure Mister Richards meant no harm, he’s just a rather presumptuous man.” Her statement has you turning back to see who it came from.
Your eyes meeting the most gorgeous woman you’d ever seen. A sentiment you didn’t think you’d ever make after Natasha.
Her black hair pulled back into a neat ponytail, not a single strand falling loose. Beautiful light green eyes stare back accompanied by a red lipped white tooth smile.
In your daze of taking in her appearance you miss what she says to Mister Richards, but it sends him away, leaving the two of you alone.
“Um, forgive me for this, no doubt, repetitive question but, what company are you here representing?” Your eyes subconsciously trail down the line of her jaw and it’s incredibly hard to draw your attention away when she speaks.
“Luthor Corp.” Her lips turn up into an almost knowing smile and it has you quickly looking up into her eyes, heart pounding when you realize you’d been caught staring at her lips.“ I’m Lena Luthor.”
Clearing your throat, you hold your hand out to her,“ Y/n.” You expected a warm hand but while it’s soft, it’s fairly cold.“ Thanks for the save Miss Luthor.” Your hand returns to your glass, the chill of it like that of her hand.
“It was nothing, I could tell from across the bar he’d said something you didn’t like.” She makes mention.
You grimace, a soft chuckle falling after,“ you’ll have to forgive me, controlling my expression isn’t a mastered craft as of yet.”
She waves you off, casually leaning her side against the bar as her drink is sat down,“ it takes years, I’m still working on it. Come to enough of these and you’ll get it.”
“Oh I’ve been to plenty,” her eyebrow quivers at that,“ I’ve just never been good at. . .lying. No offense to you in any way, I think you’re ability to deal with all this social-”
“Bullshit.” She finishes for you with a chuckle.
Nodding, you laugh as well,“ yeah that. It’s a true superpower Miss Luthor, and of my many, that is not one.”
“Superpower is a stretch.”
Your eyes narrow at her, a small smirk on your lips,“ something tells me it isn’t.”
Throughout your continued conversation, her charm and genuine goodness radiates off of her. The woman listens intently to you speak, she makes you laugh, and indulges all your questions with zealous passion.
As the night goes on neither of you find much entertainment outside of your little space at the bar. Not wanting to go home inebriated, you’d long since switched your liquor for plain club sodas, Lena suggesting the addition of cherry grenadine just for flavor.
“The idea is brilliant, which I’m sure you know, I just think it has more potential than power storage. What if you used it as a power core instead.” You shrug simply.
Lena’s hand halts in movement, the drink in her cup sloshing slightly as the action,“ that’s genius. But it wouldn’t be easy. I’ve toyed with alien energy before, it’s much more powerful than expected.”
“Which, I think, makes it all the more useful. Depending on how strong, you could power an entire village or a small town. Imagine giving small pieces of the core to third world countries.”
An amused smile tugs at her lips for the nth time tonight,“ is your first thought always to help others or is that just the Avenger in you?”
You chuckle,“ myself and the hero. I just don’t see why we wouldn’t use the knowledge and resources we obtain, alien and human, to help those who truly need it.”
Lena’s mouth opens in preparation for her next reply, however it doesn’t come as a body weakly collides with yours. Wide eyed you look over to see your best friend, obviously drunk, leaning on you.
“I’ve been looking for you everywhere. You have to try the strawberry cake thingies.” Wanda tugs at your arm in a childlike manner.
Frowning in Lena’s direction, the CEO shrugs. Gentle grabbing Wanda’s shoulders, you turn her to face you,“ what strawberry cake?”
She smiles,“ the ones on the tray Y/n. The servers are walking around with- oO right here.” Fast as lightning, her hand shoots out and she grabs a small plate off the servers tray. Three little white chocolate truffles sit on it with milk chocolate drizzled over.“ Try.”
“O-” your reply cuts when she shoves a piece in your mouth. As good as it is, your eyes widen for an entirely different reason. Your tongue runs over your bottom lip as if to ensure you’re tasting what you’re tasting.“ Wan, how many of these have you eaten?”
Her hand raises to show three of her fingers.
Yep. The small woman ate nine strawberry champagne truffles. She’s drunk.
Lena, wanting to understand, retrieves one of the truffles and bites into. Her response is the same as yours.
With an apologetic smile you look at her,“ I hate to cut the conversation short but I should probably get her home.”
“Of course of course. Hopefully we’ll be able to continue sometime.” She smiles sweetly and you nod.
After a short wave to her, you gather yours and Wanda’s things, and leave the building.
“Y/n!”
You freeze in step, tightening your hold on Wanda’s waist and pushing your free hand into your pocket, then turning to the source of the voice.
Pepper takes the stairs quickly but with all the grace of a trained performer. She stops on the same step as you and smiles a little.“ I had to catch you before you left, Lena Luthor wanted me to give you this, and let you know that she’s expecting you at Luthor Corp soon.”
A slight frown pulls your eyebrows closer together as you stare down at the business card, her personal number scrawled on the back,“ did she say why?” Pepper simply shakes her head.
Truthfully she hadn’t been expecting Lena to approach her about you. Mainly because she had no idea the two of you met, she swore she’d introduced you to every investor there tonight.
“Okay, how soon is soon?”
An apprehensive smile tugs at her lips, brows raised slightly,“ four days.”

“The blood [of the covenant] is thicker than [the] water [of the womb].”
“Mama, tell the story again?” Grey eyes peek up shyly through dark eyelashes, fingers curling the folds of her mother’s nightgown. “ ‘bout the dream-people?”
“It’s late, darlin’,” Mama murmurs with a soft smile. She presses a kiss to her daughter’s brow. “Papa will tell the long version tomorrow, hm?”
The girl’s lower lip pops out in a pout- papa is the better storyteller, but she wants to hear the story tonight. She snuggles against her mama’s belly, whispering a ‘night-night’ to the baby they say is growing in there.
“There once was a boy who was called to war, to fight for a king in a land far from home. Though he survived many times in battle, one day, an enemy struck him, and he was hurt, something terrible. At death’s door, his friends brought him to a healer’s house, who saved his life. As he recovered, he grew to love the healer’s daughter, and she grew to love him. In time, when he was recovered, his king came calling on him again. Before he left, the boy and the healer’s daughter made a blood-oath. They drew their own blood, and held their wounds against one another. They vowed that, from that moment until they met again, the song of their blood would call out for one another, no matter how far.”
Her little hand reaches over to mama’s, pressing their palms flush. “Like this?”
“Mhm,” Mama interlaces their fingers, kissing her daughter’s knuckles. “Just like this. Every night, while he was away, all they needed to do was close their eyes, and they could feel one another’s feelings, and see through one another’s eyes.”
“Till forever?” The little girl’s eyes are growing heavy, a yawn coming in spite of her best efforts. “Mama, it’s til’ forever, right?”
Mama doesn’t answer straight away. When she does, it’s soft as a butterfly’s flight; “Till forever, until they found each other again.”
The little girl’s breathing evens out, eyes slipping shut.
(She’s always wanting a happy ending.)
She’s twelve and using the computer unsupervised the first time she looks it up on a whim. She is meant to be researching poetry, but that quickly becomes dull.
Instead, the rabbit hole of the web sucks her in.
According to the internet page that comes up, a Blood-Oath Soulmate is defined as a myth, steeped in legend: a couple who, when faced with separation, make a blood-oath that allows them to see, hear, and feel one another across the thousands of miles.
The origin, exactly, is unclear. It’s a myth with several cultural variants- in her own region, Twelve, and in the northern regions of Åtta, Tio, and Tretton, the war is won, and the boy returns to the healer’s daughter. By contrast, in the southwest, they say the boy earned a glorious warrior’s death, and the girl grieves but honors his memory. In almost all the other regions, the myth is drawn out, many side-adventures and evils hinder the boy’s path home, and by the time the boy finds his way back to his love, amidst a continent of misery, they both are old and grey. It’s not clear where the myth started, some say it’s a retelling of an old Sumerian tale; others, that it comes from Viking oral lore. Some, still, argue that they all are true, that the same fate spreads itself throughout time, throughout the world, in different ways.
All modern experts, essentially, concur on the matter of the story’s implausibility. The human body replenishes its blood count within weeks, one discussion board points out.
It was just a myth to make humans feel their love could be impermeable, or withstand the tests of distance and challenges, claims another. Or, one user with a profane avatar states, the modern meaning is just guess-work and the cultural context and any kernels of truth will forever be lost.
And everyone knows there’s no such thing as a soulmate.
Kat feels her stomach clench as she quickly exits the browser, lonely in the wake of her father’s death, and her mother’s subsequent depressive episode, and still clinging to her mother’s hushed telling of a love that is palpable down to the bone.
(She can’t decide if knowing it’s ‘just a story’ hurts or helps more. The veneer of childhood is always treasured for a reason.)
She is seventeen when it happens.
A flash of a medical room. Harsh fluorescent lights. Thick, strong hands trying to block the light out. Starched sheets, scratching skin. A pinch of a needle and stifled shout-
She wakes covered in sweat.
Something is wrong, niggles at the back of her mind. Her pounding heart beats out wrong, wrong, wrong. She pushes it away, presses the thought down. She manages to lull herself back to sleep, a deep, imageless thing, but the wrongness sticks with her.
The next night is nearly identical, except the stranger’s hands are tearing off the bedsheets. A stump of a knee rests where a leg should extend. A panicking voice, a nurse, shouts for help as the struggling and screaming begins-
“Where’s my fucking leg?!”
Kat wakes with a jolt, strangled gasps as she pushes her own blankets off, hands grasping at her limbs, the phantom terror and horror bringing bile up her throat.
What was that?
A dreamless sleep doesn’t find her again, her eyes bruising with nights of nightmares and days of exhaustion. The hospital, the scratchy sheets, the nurses and medications and injections.
One week, then another.
She’s in Civics class when it occurs to her.
The blood drive, at the beginning of May. She’d turned seventeen, and finally weighed enough to donate blood.
Could it be…?
She sleeps in, one Saturday morning, when they are fitting a prosthetic on her stranger; crutches and halting steps as those beefy hands grip support bars.
“Just a step further,” a voice encourages.
Shame and frustration, and a deep, croaking voice lashes out of the throat-
“I can’t!”
You can, you can, you can, she tries to will the stranger her confidence.
The figure stills, and for a moment, she thinks they can hear her.
“I’m done,” they say, and in spite of the disappointment on the nurse’s face, a man in a white lab coat agrees, and helps them back into a wheelchair.
Kat feels the sinking failure, the desperate yearning to help this person, this stranger. There are only nurses and doctors, in her dreams. She knows what it means to be lonely, even when there are people around; what it means when you wake up in emotional pain, but have no one to share it with.
She wants to tell her stranger it will all be all right, but the weeks pass and she can only confide her secret to herself. They wouldn’t believe her, even if she could say it in person.
Where is your family? she tries to ask.
They never seem to hear her.
(Waking becomes harder, but she can’t confide in anyone that she wakes wishing she could live in her dreams without them thinking she’s gone mad.)
They are kneading dough, seated at a wood table in a cluttered kitchen. The prosthetic is fitting to the leg, tender today but not sore, exactly. She can smell the flour and feel the silky-smooth texture between her fingers. Smoothe jazz music is playing, from a radio over on the counter. She feels a hand squeezing her stranger’s shoulder.
“Looks good, Pete.” It’s a gruff voice, but not unkind.
“Needs to rise,” her stranger- ‘Pete’!- retorts. They don’t look up, but she can feel a flush on her ‘Pete’s’ cheeks.
“We got some coursework from the school, then.”
(She doesn’t realize this is the last she will dream of her stranger.)
The dreams evaporate, after eight weeks, as abruptly as they had begun.
In the aftermath of her first dreamless night in over a month, she wakes to the dawn breaking with no images from her stranger.
‘Pete’.
She tries to will herself back to sleep, compel visions back from the brink. It’s the first night she thinks to try and remember the names of the doctors and nurses, or the location of the hospital. The nametags are foggy in her memories, a nurse Jackie or Jenny and a last name they had abbreviated to, ‘A.’
The internet doesn’t help her any more than her own mind can. ‘An amputee named ‘Pete’ who likes to knead dough and is doing high school coursework at home’ doesn’t do much in a White Pages search.
She writes it all down, then, each snippet and sound she can recall. She keeps the journal under her mattress, knowing her mother won’t bother, and her baby sister wouldn’t dare to look.
Like a madwoman, she rereads her own accounts, adds notes to it every morning, hoping the dreams will start again. But every morning, the dreams seem more as if they were fantasies, and her journal reads like fiction.
A year passes.
Her dreams now are either blank, or memories of ‘Pete’.
She could blame it on her family friend, and his stupid insistance that she attend Prom; or maybe the girlfriends she eats lunch with, who guilt her by saying that everyone needs a life outside of school, and after-school jobs.
Kat had only driven into town because she needed a damn dress. Two weeks later, and she would have been exhausted from Prom as she crossed the school stage, collecting her high school diploma.
Nothing pans out the way she imagines it will, though.
She’s alone in the car when a truck in the oncoming lane overturns at a curve in the road.
Pain bursts on her head. Flames against her skin. Crushed metal, and broken glass. In the distant fog of wailing sirens, she can hear first responders attempting to call out to her.
The only thing she remembers seeing clearly, between the accident and the hospital, is smoke rising into a blue, cloudless sky, through a shattered windshield.
“You lost a lot of blood, Kat,” the doctor says, tone not unsympathetic. “We had to do a transfusion.”
“Oh.”
She blinks, a haze of morphling in her preventing her from fully comprehending. Some broken bones. A neck brace. Burns on her face and arms, but not as bad as they first had thought- she won’t need skin grafts.
All small mercies.
Her sister and mama are there, balloons and flowers and hugs a-plenty. Get-well-soon cards from several classmates and family friends.
“You’re lucky to be alive,” her mama murmurs, as the doctor leaves.
“Okay.”
Mama runs her fingers through Kat’s knotted hair, while her sister clings and tells her how much she loves her.
She’s not numb, not beneath the morphling. But she’s so damn tired and her skin itches under the bandages.
(She can’t comfort her family while they try their hand at comforting her.)
She is washing her hands in the hospital room sink, when she feels a jolt, a compulsion; a chill down her spine and gooseflesh down her arms. She looks in the mirror, and feels in awe, feels a foreign elation. A burst of affection, a warmth.
She can’t reckon with it, can’t justify it.
It’s just… her own face. Sloppily braided dark hair. Healing stitches on her cheek, and forehead. Silver eyes, surrounded by a bruise, set in a narrow face. She gulps, leaning in closer, and trying to grasp the sensation. Out-of-body, might be the right term- dissociative, she’d read about once, for Health and Wellness.
There’s a knock on her door, the nurse doing a check, and as Kat turns, the warmth dissipates.
The nurse comes in not long after, checks her vitals and asks a series of questions.
“My name is Katniss Everdeen.”
That warmth in her chest is back, the hair at the base of her neck stands straight.
She scrubs her hands over her face, focusing on the simple questions the nurse is asking.
“I’m eighteen years old. I’m graduating from PPH12 in Sommen in one week. I’m at Merchant Memorial Hospital.”
In the bathroom that night, she stares at her own reflection, and wonders if maybe that feeling of someone looking over her shoulder- more like looking through her eyes- if maybe….
She fogs up the mirror, and writes her room number. She stares at it, for a time, before scoffing at own ridiculousness, and wiping it away with her towel.
She only has one day left before being discharged, though she’ll miss graduation and the parties that would entail. She can’t say she is particularly disappointed; she’s never been a party person.
She’s awake when the door to her shared hospital room opens. She pays it little mind. The curtain around her bed is pulled taught, her roommate jabbering away on their phone about the food service as if this were fine dining, rather than a hospital. Kat is reading a get well card, this one signed by the whole senior class and class advisors.
There’s a thrumming in her veins, but that might be them weaning her off of the morphling.
Curtain rings scrape against metal, and she barely glances up, the nurse rounds due any minute now. Normally, though, the bubbly nurse who does the day-shift is already bustling with an overwhelming enthusiasm that makes Kat question how exhausted the nurse is at the end of the day.
Maybe it’s a different nurse or a doctor or mama, or-
The blue eyes that are boring into hers are ones she has only seen in her dreams; she can finally see blonde curls framing them, familiar thick, strong hands brushing through the curls.
“Pete?” she croaks, certain she’s finally lost her damn mind.
His eyes widen at the sound of his name, lips parting.
“I found you.”
A tone of surprise, as if he’d driven all this way, but in expectation of disappointment.
“Peeta,” he introduces himself, edging closer. His hand carefully takes hold of her own. “And… I’ve waited a long time to meet you, Katniss.”
(Her name has never been spoken as sweetly, and her heart has never felt so full.)

Diego Hargreeves x Fem!reader
Requested by anon: “Can you do a season 1 Diego Hargreeves x female reader one-shot where reader is his girlfriend, is a forensic scientist and met him when he was a cop, was born on the same day as him but wasn’t adopted by Reginald and can control fire, and she’s there when he reunites with his siblings after Reginald dies and gives him a comforting hug from behind when he cries and stutters as he turns Grace off? She’s basically a real life firebender from Avatar: The Last Airbender.”
A/N- I’m going to have make this into two parts just cause I didn’t want to make one part too long and just rush this, so I hope you understand anon :)
Warning- slight violence, angst but also some fluff, swearing.
———-
“We're going now live to a breaking story…”
At the sound of the fanfare playing from the tv you quickly glance up from your work and briefly watch the screen playout, not paying much attention to it and turning back to your work, tuning out the news until moments later you see patch walk up to your desk and point out to the news they’re announcing.
“Isn’t that Diego’s dad?”
You look up and narrow your gaze on the screen waiting until the picture of who they were reporting popped up, making your lips part in surprise, “...the world's most eccentric and reclusive billionaire. Sir Reginald Hargreaves…”
“Oh no,” you stand from your desk and forget your work at that instant and instead think of someone else, “Diego.” You sigh and pull your jacket off your chair, and walk around your desk to share with Patch your brief comment, “I need to go.”
——
“Diego?” You push your room door open and poke your head inside the darkened room, creating a small fire flame on your palm that brightens the whole room, showing no sign of the man you were looking for.
Probably still out on his “vigilante” business.
Turning back around you head back into the living room in silence, going unaware of the man that had walked in, only being aware as he walked up before you, seeing Diego’s face suddenly basked by the light of the fire ignited on your palm.
His face is expressionless, but his shoulders were slumped. He takes his mask off and finally mutters, “did you hear the news?”
You respond with a simple nod and cup his cheek before you speak, “how are you doing?”
He shakes his head and throws his mask on the couch, huffing out heavily and pulling away from your touch to move past you as he replies loudly, his voice trailing off as he heads into the room, “I’m fine.”
You sigh, “he was your dad Diego, it’s okay to feel sad and grieve.” Putting the fire out you spin back around and go after him, seeing the lights go on as he begins to rummage through the closet. “I understand he was not a good dad to you, but he was still your...dad.”
Diego let’s silence take over and just stands up abruptly to move to the drawer and take a couple of things from it before he shoves it in his duffel bag.
“Which means,” you continue as you walk up behind and carefully wrap your arms around his shoulders, “you have to go.”
Diego exhales deeply and nods stiffly, “yeah...but only because I need to figure out what happened, make sure his death was what they said. Will you come with me?” He asks as he lifts his hand to grab yours.
You smile and respond softly, “of course. Plus it gives me a chance to finally meet your siblings.”
Diego scoffs, “not much there, but it gives you a chance to finally meet my mom.”
“Good!” You pull away and sit on the edge of the bed, “so are we gonna tell them of my powers?”
“If you want,” he adds, resuming what he was doing, “I guess you’re lucky my dad's dead, doesn’t give him a chance to try to recruit you as a member to test on you.”
Letting out a lighthearted huff of air you add, “what superhero name do you think I would've had if he did?”
“Probably number eight.” He remarks.
You narrow your gaze and shake your head, “no like a real one,” you stroke your cheek and pretend to think hard, your eyes brightening up as you come up with a name, “how about Ember?” You raise your eyebrows and grin. “What do you think?”
Diego walks up to you and jokes, “how about dork?”
You frown and throw a pillow at his face, “hilarious!”
He smiles as he catches the pillow, “ow.” He throws at the bed and raises his eyebrow, “how long have you been thinking of that name?”
You shrug all nonchalant, “just...thought of it.” You lie, leaving out that it’s been something you’ve come up with since you were young.
Diego chuckles but pretends to believe you, “whatever you say, get ready we leave early in the morning.”
——
“Nothing seems to be tampered with….” You report, looking away from the window and turning back to the desk to see Diego put something in his pocket, you walk closer and he just hastily turns to face you. “You find something?”
“No. Nothing.”
You hum and your eyes go to the door to see a young beautiful blond woman and a vintage looking dress stop at the door frame. A bright smile decorating her lips. Her eyes land on you and then on your boyfriend Diego, her lips parting to make herself known. “Diego, why didn’t you tell me you were coming? I would’ve made cookies.”
Diego turns to face the woman and he walks up to her, putting his hand on her shoulder and talks to her in a gentle manner, turning to present you. “Mom this is my girlfriend y/n. Y/N this is Grace, my mother.”
Her smile seems to turn even brighter and wider as her eyes seem to give a twinkle. If that even was possible for a robot to do—“oh, you’re so beautiful!”
You smile and greet her, “hello, it’s lovely to finally meet you, Diego talks highly about you.”
“It’s about time Diego brought a girl home. I was worried he would be too lonely.”
Diego scoffs and shakes his head, “mom.”
Before you could tease Diego, you notice Grace's eyes drift to the desk, her smile falters and her eyes focus on you again. “Who wants cookies?” Before Diego or you could answer she turns to walk away, humming a melody that echoed in the halls as she walked further away. Diego watched her intently, his eyebrows furrowing with concern. Waiting for a moment before he looked back to you.
“Come on, my siblings should be here in a bit.”
You nod, “okay.”
——
Going based on the things Diego would say about his siblings, and on what you would read and watch of them on the news when you were younger and they were still active superheroes; you were nervous to actually meet them to say the least. Even talking to Diego for the first time was a nervous moment, even more so because you had on a crush on him when you began working at the police department. Literally any time when you would even see him you would feel butterflies in your stomach.
You wouldn’t say you were a big super fan of the Umbrella Academy, but you admired them, mainly because they could show off and use their powers to fight all the bad guys on their adventures. All while you had to hide them, so “the old man on the t.v. won’t take you away”. It really sucked, knowing you were powered, knowing you were born on the same day but having to hide unlike them. Having to really go untaught. Your parents tried to teach you, mainly how to control them when your emotions got too high, but they could only do so much since they knew nothing of what was happening. It wasn’t really until after you showed Diego what you could do, did you really know more, it wasn’t a lot but it was more than what you knew before.
So for that you were thankful. For him.
“Don’t be nervous.” Diego tried to assure you after noticing your hesitation as you walked down the staircase. “They’re underwhelming.”
You frown, “you’re only saying that because they’re your siblings.”
He stops before he reaches the main doors to yet another big room in this huge house. “It’s exactly why I’m saying it.” He tries to offer you an assuring look before he finishes his comment. “You’ll be okay.”
You take a deep breath before breathing out your short answer. “Okay.” You stop and hesitate one more time before you could completely go in, overhearing as one Diego’s siblings asked him who he had been talking to just now. At first you thought he would just wait to answer, but he answered right away and a very simple way.
“My girlfriend.”
None of them said anything right away and definitely didn’t say anything as you finally walked inside. They all were expressing a form of shock, almost as if it were impossible for Diego to have such a thing. It wasn’t until one of them, a man with long hair at the bar broke the silence with a very warm and exciting greeting.
“Hello! It’s so nice to finally meet you! I thought the day would never come.”
The corner of your lips turned slightly, but not fully because it was doubtful Diego had ever talked to any of his siblings since you began dating or at all actually until today; which meant that none of them would know about you.
“Okay.” Diego sighed as he shot the same man an odd look. “Well, that’s Klaus,” his eyes drift to the two girls and he points to them, “she’s Alison and that’s Vanya.” He turns and points to the tall, very muscular man. “And that’s Luther.” Said man offered you a tight lipped smile while Alison said a simple, “hi, it’s so nice to meet you.” And Vanya just said very shyly, “hi.”
Your smile widens but it’s still very timid, “I’m y/n, it’s nice to finally meet you guys, Diego talks a lot about you guys.”
Allison blinked in genuine surprise before she looked to Diego in shock, “oh, really? Who would’ve thought.”
Diego rolls his eyes and just adds, “she has abilities just like us, born on the same day and everything.”
“Really?” Luther finally spoke up, stepping up closer to Diego and you.
You nod, “yes, I can manipulate fire and make it myself.”
“Oh like from the cartoon with the little bald kid?” Klaus questioned curiosity before taking a drink from his beverage.
Your lips part to argue, but you find that he’s actually right. “Uh, yes actually.”
“I thought we were the only ones.” Alison queried, “dad never told us there was more.”
Diego scoffs, “I don’t know how you find that at all surprising. He was not a good man.”
“Diego,” Luther warned.
Said man's head snapped around and his eyebrows furrowed, “don’t defend him and pretend he was. He—”
“Diego.” You snapped, “don’t. Not now.” He met your eyes and huffed before he took a seat, creating a painfully awkward silence in the room that you noticed as you sat down too. None of them spoke up, or had the thought to apologize, they let it pass and only Luther dared to speak up moments later. A genuine question that too quickly turned into an argument amongst them, one you chose to stay out of and watch from your side of the couch. It was short and wasn’t as bad as he would say it would go, but it was still torture hearing them, which made you grateful to be told to go several minutes later.
Not that it was any better, Diego stayed quiet most of the time, his mind seemed to be somewhere else as his body was physically here. But you also didn’t want to bug him, he said he wasn’t affected by his father's death but he was here so...you let him have his time, he always ended up talking sometime or the other. But maybe that time wasn’t going to come anytime soon due to some blue rumbling portal opening that resulted in dropping someone Diego said was his brother. The same one with the portrait in that huge room.
It was overall to put in the fewest words crazy. And even if your curiosity was killing you about what the heck really happened, you chose to stay out of that reunion and joined when it was finally time for the funeral outside under the oak tree as Luther had put it. Putting aside the fact that it was stormy and their no actual leaves on the tree. Hmm.
Regardless you stayed close to Diego, interlacing your hand with his and feeling his unease as he stood there and heard Pogo begin to give a heartfelt speech. A moment that was ruined by Diego finally releasing what he’s been dying to say. “He was a monster.” Klaus laughed and you sighed, muttering his name as a warning, but that did not stop him as he continued. “He was a bad person and a worse father. The worlds better off without him.”
“Diego.” Allison sharply interjected.
“My name is number two.” Diego remarked, “you know why? Because our father couldn’t be bothered to give us actual names. He had mom do it.”
“Diego!” You snapped, earning nothing as he ignored you and Grace interrupted like if nothing were happening.
“Would anybody like something to eat?”
“No, it’s okay mom.” Vanya replied.
“Oh, okay.”
“Look, you want to pay your respects?” Diego pulled away and stepped to the center of the gathered group; “but at least be honest about the kind of man he was.”
“You should stop talking now.” Luther warned.
“You know, you of all people should be on my side, Number one.”
You huffed and crossed your arms on your chest, “Diego, please drop it.”
“No, just listen.”
Luther seethed, “I’m warning you.”
Diego continued pressing on the matter, “after everything he did to you? He had to ship you a million miles away.”
“Diego, stop talking.” Luther snarled.
“That’s how much he couldn’t stand the sight of you!” Diego bellowed, pressing an accusing finger on Luther's chest, making said man finally snap and punch his arm before he swung. A move Diego luckily dodged but didn’t stop and instead continued, both men ending up fist fighting in the courtyard and ruining the day.
Neither of them listened to the calls to stop either, they both continued like children. Making Pogo walk off out of anger and Five to do the same but in more of an annoyance. It wasn’t until Luther broke a statue did they break apart and made Alison walk away, whilst Diego pulled out one of his knives making you hold onto your breath and finally gasping as he threw it and the blade scratched Luther's arm. It stayed silent for a moment as they tried to process what happened, but it was also then that Diego was going to go in again, that you finally created a narrow fire blade that created a drift between the two. An action that made Diego look at you wide eyed. Surprised that you would do that.
All you did was respond with a glare before you took Grace's arm and softly told her to come with you inside. She smiled and accepted.
Just as you passed Diego you stopped and shot him a quiet but angry comment. “Unbelievable.”
He tried to grab your arm to stop you, but you pulled away and added one more thing before heading inside. “Don’t. Talk to me when you’ve calmed down.”
Diego sighed, but didn’t try to argue. Instead he watched as the fire went out as you walked inside with his mother in hand.

If I was Mary, I would have accepted the fact that Freddie was gay and moved on with my life. If she really knew Freddie as well as she claims she did, she would know that Freddie struggled to let people go and that's part of the reason why he kept her so close. I would have reassured Freddie that I wasn't going anywhere and he'd always be my friend, but also that I need to start making a life for myself and that he didn't need to "look after me" out of guilt because our break up wasn't his fault. I would stay in touch with him, hang out with him, maybe even work for him if he wanted me to. But I'd always remind him that he didn't have to worry about losing me; he's my friend, he always will be, and I'll never resent him for being true to himself. I would find myself a nice boyfriend, get married if I wanted to, have kids and be more than just "Freddie Mercury's ex girlfriend."
If I was Mary, I would have been supportive whenever Freddie was in a relationship with another man. I'd squeal and go "tell me everything!" whenever he announced he had a new boyfriend. When we were out and about, I'd check out guys walking past and go, "what about him? Is he your type?" We'd trawl through bars together and I'd hook him up with someone after a few too many drinks. Of course, if I felt he was in an abusive situation or was being taken advantage of, I'd warn him, but at the end of the day he's a grown man, I'm not his mother, and it's not my place to stick my nose in someone else's relationships. I would let him know that I was there for him if he ever needed advice and that if he was happy, I was happy too, because that's what best friends do. Freddie would never feel the need to hide the gay aspect of his life from me because he'd know I'd never judge him for it.
If I was Mary, the first day I met Jim, I'd have given him the biggest hug and joked with Freddie about how he landed himself his own Burt Reynolds. Whenever Jim and Freddie had a row, I'd be the one to slap Freddie round the head (metaphorically) and go, "you have an amazing man right there! Stop trying to sabotage your own happiness!" I'd be jumping up and down, squealing like a little girl when Freddie showed me his wedding ring. Freddie and Jim would be the cool gay uncles my kids looked up to. When Freddie fell ill, I'd make it clear to Jim that I was there for him as well as Freddie, and if he ever needed a shoulder to cry on, I'd be right there. I would be there to support Jim whenever things became too much and when Freddie died, I would sit in the first car with him on the way to the funeral, holding his hand the entire time. I would let him stay in Garden Lodge during his bereavement period, and the day he decided to leave, I'd kiss him on the cheek and tell him my door is always open for him. We'd meet up occasionally, usually on Freddie's birthday or the anniversary of his death, drink tea, play with the cats and talk about the old days, comfortable in knowing that we both have each other to help us through this difficult time. I would make sure Jim knows that I love and care about him as much as I did Freddie.
If I was Mary, after Freddie's death I wouldn't have immediately turned Freddie's house into Fort Knox. I would have told the GL boys that they could stay as long as they needed to, until they came to terms with what happened. Phoebe would always have a job there if he wanted it. If Joe needed any financial or emotional support for his illness, all he had to do was ask. Jim could take all the photographs and memorabilia/gifts from Freddie that he wanted, they were his after all. You want to take one or two of the cats with you? Of course! They were your pets to begin with and anyway, it'll be hard enough having two kids in the house without having to contend with five cats.
If I was Mary, I would have told the truth about what happened during Freddie's final days instead of spreading bullshit like he was blind to tabloids that I knew he hated. I wouldn't let the press into Freddie's house to have a tacky photoshoot where I pose as the "grieving widow." I would squash the rumours that Freddie died alone. I would squash rumours that Freddie deliberately infected people. I would squash rumours that he never found love. I would tell the world that Freddie Mercury was loved by many, many people, and during the end of his life he was nursed by three men, one of which he loved as a husband (without outing Jim of course.) I wouldn't take the credit for Freddie's care when the people who looked after him, fed him, bathed him, medicated him, helped him to the bathroom and sat with him through the night were Jim, Joe and Phoebe, two of which who were HIV+ themselves.
If I was Mary, I wouldn't make everything about myself. I would make a point of dismissing all the misconceptions surrounding AIDS. I wouldn't selfishly say that it was decent of Freddie to tell me he was gay because it meant I didn't get AIDS. I wouldn't describe Freddie's coming out as "he became a gay." I wouldn't lowkey blame Freddie for "pressuring" me into accepting his fortune. I wouldn't act like a victim and blame everyone else for my own actions. I wouldn't tell Jim that "Freddie was waiting for him," knowing full well that he was suffering from HIV and likely scared for his own mortality. I wouldn't cut ties with all of Freddie's loved ones, throw out his grieving spouse, trash his bandmates, moan and bitch about being given his bulk of his estate and promote myself as the "love of his life."
If I was Mary, I would behave like a decent human being. Something the real Mary seemed incapable of.

Lis: tc Headcanon Ask
How do you think Steph, Ryan, and Gabe met/bonded over in Haven before Alex?
That’s a great question, but a blog post from Square Enix already went over this with canon info! Gabe arrived first and Jed (Ryan’s dad) helped him get back on his feet and get a job at the Black Lantern. Then Steph was touring as part of her two-piece punk band with her then-girlfriend Izzy, stopped in Haven Springs, and decided to stay: "After an all-nighter with Gabe and Ryan, Steph made the impulsive decision to take the open job at the local record store and try her hand in the DJ booth.”
But I suppose that’s vague enough to fill in the gaps with more headcanons... sorry this took me two weeks to answer. I just wanted to write a few headcanons and I accidentally wrote a oneshot, lmao. But please, keep the headcanon prompts coming! I put it under a "read more," so thank you for your patience!
Alex was 13 when she entered foster care, and I've previously theorized that she wound up there after her parents died. The "Meet Gabe" video says Gabe ended up in juvie, but I think he was already in juvie before his parents died (or else he would've been put in the foster care system too).
So at 17, Gabe is serving time in Oregon, separated from his sister, and now newly orphaned. Once he's out, he's bitter and alone and adrift, so he floats from place to place, taking odd jobs and working his way east.
There's something... magnetic about Haven. When Gabe arrives at 18, he stumbles into it more than anything. He was just passing through Colorado and he happened upon Haven like it jumped right out of a fairytale. He’s so struck by how it seems frozen in time, untouched by all the ugliness of what his life has been over the last few years.
Soon after, he meets Jed and Ryan, who's fresh out of high school and dead set on becoming a park ranger. Gabe wants to hate Ryan for how charmed his life has been, living in a place called Haven Springs with a dad like Jed. But they're just so damn nice, and within a year they feel like family. Ryan is three months older than Gabe, but being outdoors either brings out this sage wisdom or childlike glee in him. Mostly, he’s excited because Gabe happily becomes his new hiking partner.
Slowly, Haven Springs heals Gabe. But before he heals, he has to hurt first. When Ryan invites him over for dinner one night, it takes sitting around a table in a warm dining room, laughing about nothing in particular with Jed and Ryan, for Gabe to realize what he misses. He misses his own family dinners— God, he misses his parents so fucking much. He misses Alex even more, who always sat to his right with smooth plaited braids and drank out of the same pink plastic cup. He starts talking openly about his family again, but most of all about Alex: “Alex would blast this band all the time.” “Oh man, Alex hates celery. Maybe your recipe would change her mind.” “These flowers are so pretty. Would Alex like wrapping bouquets?"
He tries and tries again to make his favorite childhood dishes. He makes his own soup broth and clumsily folds dumplings with Ryan and quietly grieves that his dishes don’t quite taste like how he remembers. Somehow, Ryan gets it— because his life wasn't as charmed as Gabe thought. Ryan actually listens to Gabe, remains quiet at all the right moments and offers just a few comforting words that are enough to soothe Gabe’s heart. He tries to repeat them to Alex, but he can never word it quite right. “It made more sense when Ryan said it,” Gabe always says to her during their phone calls. “I wish you could meet him. You'd like him."
And then he blurts out, "As soon as I'm able, I'm bringing you to Haven." She's 16 now and has been through far too many adoptive families at this point, and he puzzles over her evasive answers about "emotional outbursts," but knows not to press it.
So some time goes by. Gabe is 21 and stoked to bartend solo for the first time when Ryan slides up to him and shows a him a flyer. "A two-piece punk bank," Ryan says. Later that night, the lead singer is all over the stage, completely lost in the song. The drummer is keeping the beat, but she hardly smiles. Gabe is almost startled watching her— a little lost, a little sad. Yet she still plays her heart out, refusing to not give anything less than 100% for the music. She is just like his sister. Instantly, he thinks, “She and Alex would be a perfect match."
The drummer slogs to the bar after the show and immediately demands a pint. Gabe secretly dilutes it with water, and one hour turns to three as she, Gabe, and Ryan get deep into conversation. Eventually she sighs, “Everything about my life seems so great. I get to see a new town every night; play all these shows… but this isn’t where I expected my life to be."
Gabe nods thoughtfully, remembering himself at 18. And suddenly he’s telling her everything— getting arrested, finding out his parents were dead and his sister had been shipped off to a group home over the phone while in juvie, the months spent adrift before he found this place. He doesn’t know why he’s spilling his life to a girl he just met, but she seems open and friendly and maybe he wants her to consider sticking around in Haven too. Three hours stretches into six as they talk and drink and laugh and reminisce like old friends. The first rays of sunlight are shining in the bar when Steph blurts out, “So hey, I was wondering… do you need a hand at that record store?”
Over time, Gabe watches Haven Springs heal Steph: her residual anger slowly fades and she wonders why she ever played punk songs. Sometimes Gabe sees her coding or sketching potential character designs. Other times, they bum around the bar and play video games in the backroom, surrounded by greasy pizza boxes like they're the teenagers that Gabe never got to be. Their hikes are a little noisier now because Steph wants to feed the squirrels or some other stupid shit, but Ryan puts up with it. After all, he has a sense of humor too.

f!Dakota x Mc (Sage)

College graduation had arrived. That previous 4 years simultaneously flew by and drug on for Sage. She stayed local and went to Massachusetts, a decision she was grateful for. It hadn’t been the easiest journey since Dakota’s passing, but she was making it.
She had made new friends at school and kept her mind occupied on extra curricular’s. Sage still lingered around the topic of dating and Mateo and Lennox still called once in awhile, but life started to take over for all of them. However, there was still one time a year when Sage completely shut down and locked herself away from the world.
Dakota’s Anniversary. It happened to fall a day after her graduation and it really dampened her entire mood.
“Sage? You going to the big grad party tomorrow night?” Remi asked a very ill looking Sage.
“Remi!” Carson quietly hissed pulling the girl aside. “You know what tomorrow is.”
“Yeah? The big party?”
Carson sighed and made sure Sage wasn’t listening, “No! It’s the 4 year anniversary of her girlfriends passing. Every year she locks herself away and doesn’t talk to anyone. I guess she’s starting early.”
“Oh for goodness sakes, Sage!” Marley said stomping over from the kitchen. “You aren’t doing this again! This is our last big party before we all go our separate ways!”
“Marley!” Carson yelled at the bold statement.
“Stay out of it Carson. Stop playing peacemaker for her. We are all suite mates and I’m not going to let this negative vibe thing you got going on Sage keep ruining you.”
Sage kept still on the couch, not really listening, but just thinking back to her last day with Dakota. She saw Marley’s mouth moving but nothing was coming out.
“It was 4 years ago! Let it go! I know it still hurts but you’re just killing yourself. You grieved! It’s time to move on! She would want you to!”
“Ok Marley I think you said enough.” Remi stepped in with Carson.
Sage caught the last of Marley’s rant and it killed her to admit that she was right, so she simply met the eyes of her best friends and nodded that she would go.
The next night Carson kept close to Sage, trying to convince the girl it was ok to grieve and to stay home if she wanted. Sage pushed it aside and mainly sat at the bar all evening. Listening to her classmates hoop and holler, music thudding through her core.
She opted for the sparkling cider and mocktails because they were Dakota’s favorite. Alcohol wasn’t Sage’s friend and even it’s wicked power of mind erasing, Sage wasn’t into it. She just sipped her drinks and looked through her albums of her and Dakota, counting down to the exact time she had passed.
“Hey darlin? Wanna dance?” A preppy male voice called standing over Sage.
“Not interested.” She replied coldly.
“Come on sweet cheeks, let’s party!” He tried again.
“I said no.” Sage never looked his way. She wouldn’t give this guy the satisfaction of entertaining the idea.
“Hey doll!” The boy said snatching Sage’s phone, finally getting her attention.
“Give it back!” Sage hissed.
“Give me a kiss.” He laughed leaning down towards Sage.
“You’re drunk.” Sage backed away at the putrid odor.
“Awwww look guys! Is that you and your girlfriend?” He said looking at Sage’s Lock Screen. “You guys look like a couple of bald freaks!”
Sage snapped and smacked this goon so hard his head should have spun around. He shook off the hit and slammed the phone to the floor, shattering it into pieces.
“My phone!” Sage winced out before looking back to the goon who decided to throw a punch towards Sage that connected below her eye. It was a weak throw, mainly due to his inebriated state, but it still hurt and Sage, trying not to tumble and cry, found her foot resting firmly between the goons legs, sending him to the floor.
“Sage!” The girls come rushing over after the commotion, “Are you alright?”
“My phone....” She whimpered trying to collect the pieces.
Carson and the girls helped pick up the pieces and they apologized to Sage over and over while leaving.
“Hey! Wait up ladies!” A man called out catching them outside.
“Listen, tell your friend we will sue if he tries anything else, my dad is a lawyer. Hell, he will be hearing from him anyway for hitting Sage.” Marley barked out getting in the guys face.
“Easy easy. I’m just here to give her this.” The man extended Marley a roll of cash.
“This is $2500?” Marley spoke.
“Yeah. Some to get a new phone and the rest is just to say sorry. Don’t worry we took it from his wallet. It’s the least we could do.”
“Well. Thanks, now scram.” Marley hissed waving her hand in annoyance.
The suite mates made it home and Sage locked herself in her room. She looked at her luggage in the corner all ready to go and then to her smashed phone. This was Dakota’s night and she couldn’t even relive her memories through her phone. Stupid jerk she thought. $2500 wasn’t near enough to fix the emotional strain he caused.
Sage figured there was nothing left at school now, she graduated and it was best if she left as soon as possible. She had to get back to Boston to see Dakota.
She checked her watch, it was late but she didn’t care. She wrote up three farewell notes to each suite mate, thanking them for their awesome four years and wished them good luck. She heard the suite go quiet and taped the notes to their doors and took her luggage with her. It took a trip or two to load her car but she got it without waking anyone.
The road late at night was calm and peaceful. It was just her and her thoughts. She could finally mourn Dakota without interruption. But her eye continued to swell and bother her so she took some minor pain meds as she fought the pain and sleeping urge.
It was a longer drive than she recalled, most likely the dark and her sleep deprived body made it seem that way, but the sign for the cemetery perked her up even more as drew closer to the city. The closer she got to Dakota the more at peace she felt, she found herself closing her eyes behind the wheel soaking up the feeling of her lover.
She was in her own world now, a world she learned to tap into just for herself and Dakota. It was just them and no one else. She was so in tune to it, she never knew a drunk driver swerved over the line and hit her head on.
The transition was seamless, she was with Dakota in her own happiness.
“I’m afraid I have to go now.” Dakota spoke slowly disappearing.
“Dakota wait! I’m not ready to go yet!” Sage cried watching her girlfriend leave once again.
“It’s ok Sage, just wake up.”
Sage opened her eyes and found herself standing outside of the graveyard. It was daytime now, and she kept hearing her name.
“Sage!!!!” It sounded like Mateo. So she followed the voice.
“Sagggggge!!!” Now that was Lennox.
Sage smiled at the realization, “Ok guys, very funny.” Sage looked around but still couldn’t find the two voices.
Instead, a dark figured man appeared behind her, scaring the daylights out of her.
“Ok, this isn’t funny anymore. Who are you?” She said cowering away.
“I’m death Ms. Woods.”
“Death? But I’m not dead!?”
The man came closer and took her by the arm, opening up a portal with two paths, “Pick one.”
Sage pointed to the one on the right first, drawing her into a funeral in session.
The entire city looked to be there. As well as her mother and The Winchester’s. A funeral that seemed like Deja vu.
“Why did you bring me back to Dakota’s funeral?” Sage questioned.
“Look closer.” Death spoke.
Sage heard Mateo and Lennox calling her name like before and watched them this time. They weren’t trying to scare her, they were mourning her. As she focused on the tombstone, the name was her own, Sage Woods.
“That’s impossible! I can’t be dead!? How can I be dead?”
Death opened the portal and took her to the image on the left, “You were suppose to select this one first, like a book? Left to right.”
“Excuse me for not being very literate right now.” Sage yelled as she was brought to her car crash.
“Watch.” Death spoke pointing to her car.
Sage watched in awe as she saw her soul leave the car and rise to the clouds. “So if that’s my soul? Why am I here with you?”
“Why do you kids always ask so many questions? Look you’re dead and I’m showing you it’s true. Now I’m here to bring you to the afterlife.”
At the snap of his fingers, Sage found herself on a cloud outside of a great city in the distance. There was a gate and a man and a woman. One dressed in black and the other in white. Angel and a demon perhaps?
“Welcome home Ms. Woods. I’m Archangel Pariah and this is Demon Mezaya.” Then man spoke, “Here are your clothes.”
“Wait? Why are they gray?” Sage asked.
“You child, are an unclaimed. Unclaimed are typically mortals who end up here and have to earn their right to be a demon or angel.” Mezaya spoke.
“Up the path, the road splits into two paths, stay to the left. It is for the unclaimed. The other road leads you to the citadel.” Pariah said opening the gate.
“And what’s in the citadel?” Sage asked.
“When you are chosen to be an angel or demon, the citadel is an oasis for your own personal heaven. You can create your own and intermingle between others and their heavens.” Pariah added.
Sage kept on the correct path and ended up in a smallish town like place. It was cute and quaint, definitely old, but beautiful. There was hardly anyone about, but something was calling her to a building in the center of the town.
It was a feeling she couldn’t describe, it just felt right, it felt like...Dakota.
Sage entered the building revealing it to be a restaurant jam packed with unclaimed and a few angels and demons. And just like the new cowboy in town, as soon as she entered, the music stopped and all eyes where drawn to her.
A cup falling and shattering made Sage look at the source and came face to face with...
“Dakota.”

“I’m sorry but no. I have to go now.”
I froze where I stood. This is the moment that I had been waiting for all my life. The moment where I feel that euphoria that everyone described. The tingling fingers, the weightless, the jelly-like legs. The moment couldn’t be more romantic. Wintertime but not freezing. Soft snow falling catching on my clothes and in my hair. I was leaving the restaurant, where I celebrated my friend's birthday. He was walking in when our eyes met. I stood there feeling it all, my heart beating wildly, only to be shot down in an instance.
He walked away from me and into the building and I tried to stop the tears from falling down my face. I wanted to run but I needed to take one last look at him. I turned and watched him catch up with another woman, he kissed her on the cheek and she smiled brightly at him. I felt sick to my stomach. I watched as she talked to him and he responded casually before moving to the host’s desk. She turned back towards the entrance and for a second we made eye contact. She was beautiful. Long hair that flowed so effortlessly, a soft feminine face, cherry lips, and bright eyes. He wanted her, not me.
Embarrassed, I looked away, pretending to be distracted by my phone. I tapped away at the screen, hoping that she would look away from me and wouldn’t catch the sadness that washed over me. By the time I had looked up, both of them were gone, probably on their way to their table to enjoy their time together.
Everyone has a soulmate. Things have been like this since the dawn of time. When you’re young, they tell you that you could meet your soulmate at any moment. No one ever knew when it would happen but you would know when you did. The feeling is something you’ve never felt before and the only thing that you will be able to see, at that moment, is your soulmate. Most people go looking for their destined other half, others wait for destiny to bring them together naturally. No matter the path you take, you will meet your soulmate during this lifetime. Statistically, 87% percent of soulmates stay together and build a future together. But the other 13% are rejected and decide to live their own lives. I was now a part of that 13%. I was rejected.
I spent weeks isolated and crying in my apartment. Grieving for the future that I could have had. I had tried to hide it from my friends. Most of them had found their soulmates or were still waiting to be guided to them by destiny. But when I didn’t respond to them for a while, they came over and confronted me.
“You know we aren’t leaving until you tell us what’s wrong?”
“Kevin,” A shaky breath left my mouth. I didn’t want to cry in front of them. They didn’t need to be caught up in my sadness. “I don't know what to tell you. There’s nothing to tell you.”
“Love, you look like you’ve been crying for days,” Jacob said, taking a seat next to me on the couch, placing a mug of warm tea in my hand. I thanked him softly and he nodded before wrapping an arm around my shoulders. “Just tell us what happened. You’ve ghosted us since Eric’s birthday.” Kevin came closer to the two of us on the couch, trying to coax an answer out of me. But I stayed silent. I didn't want to admit it. I didn’t want to be seen as unwanted.
“Alright, if you don’t want to tell us right now, then that’s okay. But can we at least stay here and cheer you up a bit.” Kevin asked, tentatively. I nodded and I could see a smile grow on his face. “Good because there’s this movie I wanted to watch with you but you missed movie night last week.”
I could feel myself become more relaxed as the hours passed. It was nice to be around them again and reminded me of how much I missed them, especially hearing them banter with each other. The two of them were going back and forth, trying to figure out if a hotdog was a sandwich when the words fell from my mouth.
“I met him.” The two of them stopped and faced me.
“Met who?” Jacob asked.
“I met my soulmate.”
“Oh my god, when? Who are they? Why haven’t we met them yet?” I wanted to cringe hard at the excitement that was plastered on Kevin’s face. His smile was large and as he waited for me to delve into more detail. Jacob on the other side of me, looked just as expecting but more hesitant as he could almost sense something wasn’t right.
“His name is Kim Sunwoo. I met them outside of Eric’s party when I left early. You know, because I had to go to work the next day.” They both nodded, remembering that night, how they had both been trying to keep me out later but finally had let me go after holding me hostage for hours.
“Then what’s wrong, Y/N?’’ Jacob’s soft voice made emotions well up within me. I took a deep breath in forcing myself to get through this conversation without completely breaking down.
“He rejected me. He was there with someone else, another girl. When I was trying to find more information on him, I found the girl’s Instagram.” I remember coming across her account, she had tagged the restaurant in her pictures. And even though I had tried to stop myself after finding the bare minimum on my soulmate, I couldn’t stop myself from scrolling down her profile, hurting myself with picture after picture that she posted of him and with him. They looked so happy and that’s everything I wanted. “She’s his girlfriend. They’ve been together for years. High school sweethearts.”
I watched as the shock set into their faces. Kevin tried to apologize but I didn’t let him. He was excited that I could have found the person I was meant to be with for the rest of my life. It wasn’t his fault that it didn’t end up the way that we had all expected. They spent the rest of the night consoling me, telling me that it was his loss and reassuring me that everything happens for a reason. Kevin kept telling me that there were people who didn’t live with their soulmates and still even found love. Some people had soulmates who had died and they’d gone on to live happy fulfilling lives with people who didn’t have soulmates as well. That this moment wasn’t the end for me. I pretended to agree but even then, I felt like it wasn’t possible for me. That loneliness was my only option.
They say time heals everything and well, I don’t know who ‘they’ are but, they might be onto something. It took me a while to figure out my next steps. But slowly I started to pick myself up off of my living room floor and live and again, with Jacob and Kevin by my side the whole time. We decided that we’d keep my soulmate a secret from the rest of our friends until I was completely ready to tell them and in the meantime, I tried to reimagine what my life would be like without the person I was destined to be with. It was hard, some days I found myself scrolling through his social media aimlessly until Kevin had caught me one time and called me out on it.
“I get that he’s your soulmate but doing this isn’t going to help you better. Plus, lurking on his page like this is kinda creepy.”
I hated to admit it but he was right. From then on I stopped checking his page and from there it only got better. I started to hang out with my friends more and I even went on a couple of dates. I was starting to become a bolder version of myself. Unknowingly, in the past, I had let the idea of finding my soulmate hold me back for so long. It stopped me from taking risks and opportunities that I'd never even considered before so when my job offered me a chance to work in a different country, I took it without hesitation. I didn’t even know where I was going at first, but I was excited to find out that they were sending me to help establish a new branch of the company in Thailand. When it told my friends they were happy for me although a little sad that I would be leaving them for 6 months. They all helped me pack up my small apartment and sent me off with well-wishes at the airport, telling me to be safe and to make sure I called them when I finally touched down. That day, before I boarded the plane, I blocked him and his girlfriend, so that every time I went back to either page it would be blank. It felt symbolic of me starting over again.
My time in Thailand, came and went and it was winter time again when I returned. I was left to my own devices for a couple of hours, I planned to stay with Jacob, who was still at his job until I could get a place of my own. Having nowhere else to go, I decided to settle into a small dive bar that I used to go to all the time with my friends. The bartender greeted me warmly and indulged in all my stories about Thailand. From behind me, the front door swung open and a group of loudly talking people walked in. The bartender excused himself from me to go tend to the group who had made themselves comfortable on the other side of the bar.
Now by myself, I turned back to the drink that I had been nursing for a little while and threw my head back, drinking it all in one swift motion. I shook off the chill from the alcohol and that when my eyes met his.
From across the bar, amongst the group of people that just came in, stood Sunwoo, staring back at me. A warm sensation flutters over me, familiar to the first time we met but not quite the same. It isn’t uncommon for soulmates that haven’t seen each other in a long time to relive that initial rush but the feeling was stronger than what other people described. Maybe because it’s been so long. I knew he felt it too, as a small gasp left his lips. The rush of warmth was stopped as reality hit me again. As much as I enjoyed this feeling, I would never lead to anything between the two of us and sadness filled the hole that cozy feeling left. Immediately, I started to pack up my things, shoving my phone into my purse and shrugging my coat on as fast as I could. I pulled out a 20 dollar bill to cover my tab, a little too much but a nice tip for the bartender who kept me company all this time. I gathered my things as fast as possibly shoving my wallet and phone into my purse but before I could leave the bar, a soft hand was placed on my shoulder. I looked over to see no other than Sunwoo standing there with a nervous look on his face.
“Y/n, right?” He knew my name. Something I didn’t think he’d know seeing as how he brushed me off the first time we met. I nodded not trusting myself to speak. I watched as he took in a deep breath gathering himself. “Could I buy you a drink?”
“I - I um …” I wanted to say no but the words wouldn’t come out of my mouth. He kept his eyes on me hoping silently for me to say yes.
“Is everything alright over here?” From behind the bar, the bartender nodded to the two of us, obviously sensing that something wasn’t right.
“Uh, yeah. Everything is good. I um,” I trailed off taking a glance back towards Sunwoo, who had taken his hand off my shoulder and was looking at the ground quite solemnly. “He was just going to buy me a drink.” From the side of my eyes, I notice Sunwoo perk up and look at me bewildered that I had accepted his offer and, to be honest, I was surprised at myself too.
We sat down at a table on the opposite side of the room, he had already finished his drink, swallowing it down nearly in one gulp while mine stayed untouched. I couldn’t bear to look at him, scared that the sadness I had worked so hard to suppress would come bubbling out of me so I chose to stare out the window. This was beyond awkward. What do you say to the man that broke your heart? I glanced over to him and his eyes were staring into the cup between his hands. I was starting to get annoyed, he wanted me to stay here so why wasn’t he talking? He was the one who rejected me. I looked down at my phone. 5:34 pm. Jacob would be home by now.
“Look, I have to go. My friend is waiting for me and - ” I said getting up from my seat but before I could get far enough away his hand grasped on to mine. Shivers went up my hands and through my whole body. Another thing that happens with soulmates but it had just dawned on me at that moment was that it was the first time we touched skin to skin.
“I’m sorry. Please stay.” He looked up at me from his seat, his pleading desperate but quiet. Nearly washed out by the noise in the bar. I sat back down, finally looking him in his eyes.
“Fine but I do have someone waiting for me.” I couldn’t hide the annoyance in my voice. “What do you want from me?”
He was quiet on the other end of the table. I could see him pressing his thumbs together anxiously as he tried to gather himself as I watched in silence.
“Why did you block me?”
“Huh?”
“On Instagram. You blocked me. Why?”
Now I was struck silent. How did he know that I had blocked him?
“That was a long time ago, how did -”
“Six months ago.”
“How did you know I blocked you?” I asked warily. He breathed out like he had been holding his breath this whole time. He leaned back in his chair and ran his hand through his hair. It seemed like he was willing to talk so I copied him, getting more comfortable in my chair.
“After we met, I tried not to think much about you. I was happy, in a good relationship, and I didn't want to change that so quickly, especially because we had been together for so long. Everything was fine for a little bit but I did feel bad for how I treated you that night. I want you to know that I should have never done that and I’m sorry.” I nodded, understanding where he was coming from and he continued. “Everything was fine for a little while. But she told me about an account that was watching all of her Instagram stories but didn't follow her. When she showed it to me, I recognized you immediately. That when I started checking up on your profile.”
“I didn’t mean to stalk or anything I just wanted to know about my soulmate,” I said blushing and embarrassed at the fact that I had been caught this whole time. I took a swig of the drink in front of me hoping it would help cool me down.
“It’s okay. I did the same thing.”
“What now?”
“Well, I kept up to date with you on your account. So much to the point where my girlfriend started to notice. She kept asking about it but I just told her that it was nothing. But one night she kept pushing it and I finally told her that we were, you know, soulmates.” he said gesturing between the two of us. “We got into a big fight over it. She was mad that I didn’t tell her. Eventually, we talked it out and we broke up. She didn’t want to keep me from my soulmate. We’re still friends, however at a distance, and she tried to encourage me to talk to you. But I was too scared too. I was afraid you’d reject me as I rejected you.”
I watched him closely, noticing the weight he carried on his shoulders. Saying all of this must be a lot for him.
“But by the time I had the courage to do so, you had already blocked me. So when I saw you I thought ‘Fate must be giving me another chance’ so I took it.” It took a moment to process everything I was hearing but it had lit a tiny spark in me about all the possibilities for us but I needed him to ignite the flame and make it bigger. I needed confirmation to hear the words from his mouth.
“So what do you want from me, Sunwoo?” I asked, crossing my arms.
“A do-over. A chance to make this, us, work. I know I messed up and I regret it every day but I was scared. I never thought that I was ever going to meet my soulmate, so when I finally did, I was too scared to take the leap. But now I’m ready, I just hope I’m not too late and you haven’t given up on me yet. I want you, Y/n. ”
I turned my head away from him, wiping the small tears from my eyes after hearing the words that I always wanted to hear. My soulmate wanted me. I didn’t have to be lonely and bitter for the rest of my life or hide the fact that deep down I still yearned after the idea of being with the person that was perfectly made for me. It was like everything was falling into place. I took a deep breath, collecting myself before looking at him again.
“Fine, but if we do this we start from the very beginning. No hard feelings or anything. Just two people, soulmates, getting to know each other. Deal?”
“Deal.”
“Okay.”
“Okay.
We stayed there for the rest of the night, talking like I had imagined we would have a whole year ago. I nearly forgot about Jacob, who let me know that he was extremely worried about me after the fact. That night I could feel the sadness I had held on to for a whole year slowly dissipate and be replaced with the excitement for my future with him. I was ready to smile with him, laugh with him, be happy with him. I was ready to do everything together, from cheesy over the top dates to simply spending time with each other. I was ready to try again.

Sero X Kaminari ghost au
Here's a fanfic idea I won't do anything with but I hope you enjoy!
Sero lives an average life. Average job, average looks, average apartment, etc. But he likes it like that.
The only really exciting thing in his life is his friends: Mina, Kirishima, and Bakugou.
They go out every Saturday night. Tonight being Mina's turn to choose what they do.
They go bar hopping for a bit until they get lost along the way and end up in front of a fortune tellers shop.
It being Mina's night to choose what they do demands that they get their futures read.
So they go in and do exactly that. Kirishima and Bakugo get told something about love making them blind, Mina gets told that she will excel at her new job (and upon request will be successful in love as well).
Oddly enough they all also get told that they will grieve the lost of someone they all hold dear soon.
Then Sero goes expecting the same but the old lady that has been telling their fortunes almost freezes the moment he sits down
"You will have a boring life full of disappotment and loneliness."
"That's nice"
The old lady quickly grabs what looks like a necklace that has a small obsidion rock with golden lines running through it like lighting.
She buts the necklace in Sero's hand and says he must keep it on him at all times if he wants a chance of having an exciting and fulfilling life.
He tries to leave without it but she says thats its free and he needs to take it. So he does.
Over the next week of wearing the necklace he notices some werid things happening.
And by werid I mean that he is now being haunted by what looks like a blond ghost his age in clothes from hundreds of years ago.
Sero tries to ignore it to see if it will go away but he won't stop talking.
"Hi! My names Kaminari Denki and I need you to help me cross over to the after life!"
"No thanks dude, I think I'm good."
But Kaminari won't leave him alone and keeps messing with his lights, throwing things off his shelf, messing with his TV, etc.
Its driving him crazy! Denki even follows him to his job! He can't take it any more. He wants him to leave him alone!
Sero's friends start to notice his werid behavior as well and don't hesitate to let him leave their next saturday outing early for "personal" reasons.
"Why do you keep following me, huh!? Why can't you see that I don't want to help you and instead bother someone else with your problems?"
"My soul is trapped in the necklace you're wearing...I have to go where ever it goes."
Denki continues to try and apologize for the trouble he has caused. He says that he was only trying to help him but Sero doesn't want to hear it anymore. He takes off the necklace and chucks it into the tree line.
And with that. Sero walks off and is free from the annoying little ghost. His apartment is quiet, all of his stuff is organized, and he actually has a productive day at work!
But its almost to quite now. His apartment dosen't feel as lived in and he has nothing to distract him when his work gets slow.
He soon realizes that he was a little harsh on the ghost that just asked for his help. So he goes back for him.
He goes back to where he thinks he tossed the necklace and begins to search but he can't find the necklace anywhere. He's panicking now becuase he thinks he just lost Kaminari for forever.
"Did you drop something young man?"
Its the old lady from the fortune telling. She has the necklace in her hand and scolds Sero for not taking better care of his things.
Once Sero gets back home he puts the necklace back on and can immediately see Denki again. He apologizes for what he did and asks if he would still like his help in finishing his unresolved buisness.
Kamianri of course agrees with his 100 watt smile and Sero can't help but bask in the light.
The mood is almost immediately ruined though when kamianri admits that he dosen't know what his unfinished buisness is.
Time to call in the moral support!
Sero calls over Mina, Kirishima, and Bakugo to explain why his been acting weird and for their help in freeing Denkis soul.
"So remeber that necklace that ildy lady gave me, yeah it kinda huanted and the ghost needs our help."
"Bullshit!"
After Denki reveals himself and their shock wears off, they get down to buisness.
They ask Denki about his life and how he died to see if that could be any clue to why he hasn't moved on yet.
"Well I died from being struck by lighting..."
"Thats kinda manly..."
Denki tells them that he was tied to a metal poll during a thunder storm and left to die becuase the people of his town thought he was a demon in disgues.
They basically find out that he didn't have a life full of friends or fun and died to young to truly experience anything so they decide to go on adventures so that Denki could actually "live" a little.
They take him to the mall, site seeing, carnival, museums, game nights (Denki figures out that he can possess a controller and actually play with them) and even to the bars
All of them get closer to him and he feels like the finale piece of the puzzle making their little group whole.
Once Denki learns that it is socially acceptable to date the same sex, he becomes Minas wingman at the bar. Literally ghost pushing girls into her arms or stealing their items for Mina to "find" and give back
Kaminari is determined to make Kirishima and Bakugo confess their obvious feels for eachother. He give Kirishima peptalks about how they have the actual ability to be together and gives him old English poems to recite to Bakugo. Denki gives Bakugo plenty of time to confess his feeling by some how always getting the two of them alone. Whether that's sticking them in an broken elevator or locking them in rooms.
But now that the gang can see Kaminari, they can easily tell that Sero is his favorite person to help. He follows him at work making sure that his coffe cup is always in reach, holding elevator doors open so he dosen't have to take the stairs, catching stakes of papers before they can fall off his desk, etc. He does it so seamlessly that they don't even think Sero notices his actions.
After a few months of hanging out together the group is once again out on another Saturday night. They have already hit a couple bars and are now walking through the park.
Mina is texting the girl Denki helped hook her up with, Bakugo is hold Kirishimas hand as he drags them to a swing set.
Sero walks over to a pond off to the side. He dosen't even have to look to know Kamianri has followed him and is floating next to him.
Sero can't help to notice how pretty Kamianri looks in the moonlight making him look like he is glowing, but also solid. Like hes a real person.
"So, do you think that we are any closer to you crossing to the otherside?"
Denki shakes his head no and Sero mentally sighs in relief.
They watch their friends laugh behind them and Denki smiles. He's so happy that they found and are with the love of their lives.
Denki frowns at the thought.
"I didn't tell you the whole truth of how I died."
Sero turns to Denki completely as he tells his story again but this time he says why he was left to die by his towns people.
"I don't know how, but they found out that I didn't like women. Were I'm from... liking men is a sin or the act of the devil so...they thought it was best to get rid of me and cleans their town of evil."
Sero never wished so badly that he could touch Kaminari and pull him into a hug.
"That wasn't right of them. I'm sorry you had to go through that...but while you're here you are free to like whoever you want."
"What if...what if I like you?"
Sero pauses only for a second before smiling the biggest smile in his life.
"Well...seeing as how I kinda fell for you, I would accept your feeling for me."
Kaminari has a shy smile on his face and asks if Sero could close his eyes for a second.
Sero does without hesitation and its not long after he feels what could only be described as phantom lips on his.
When the pressure on his lips leaves his, he opens his eyes to see Denki moving way from him. And see as he starts fading away.
Denki looks at his hand then up at Sero with big water eyes. Or maybe thats Seros eyes. He can't really tell in the moment.
Denki gives him one last smile before thanking him for everything and then disappears from existance.
Sero tries to grab him but its useless. He's gone. He turns and walks back to his friends.
When he finally reach them and they ask where Denki is, he finally allows himself to cry.
They end their Saturday night outing in Seros apartment all cuddled together and mourning the loss of their friend.
Some more time has passed and no one has really recovered from Kaminari's abrupt departure. Mina, Bakugo, and Kirishima try to keep a brave face on for Sero's sake but they all feel the loss.
Because all things happen on Saturday, the gang decides to go on a walk around town as their activity. Mina brought her girlfriend along so now Sero has somehow become the 5th wheel and is not fan of this revelation.
His sad boy hours are cut short though when he is suddenly hit by a guy caring a box.
They both go to the ground with the box opening and spilling everything around them.
The guy immediately starts to ask if Sero is okay and if he needs help getting up, but Sero can't respond in that moment because he is staring at Kaminari. A Kaminari that he can touch!
The gang by this point is also staring and watching this guy ramble on about being new in town and helping his grandmother with some errands exactly like how THEIR Kamianri would ramble without a breath in between.
Kirishima finally breaks the spell and helps the guy pick the stuff up and asks if he would like help caring the stuff to his grandmothers.
The guy agrees and then introduces himself as Denki.
Sero can't talk or function right now. He is so confused but also filled with so much happiness he thinks that he's going to burst.
"I know I just met you guys but, I feel like I known all of you from somewhere... maybe we were friends in our past lives!"
They all laugh off the comment as they come up to a familiar hole in the wall shop that started this entire journey.
Denki greets the old women with his 100 watt smile as he introduces everyone to his grandma.
The women just gives them all knowing smiles as she ask for Sero and Denki to put the boxes into the back room.
They quickly put the boxes away. Sero had to stand behind Denki to put his on the top shelf and he couldn't help but notice the blush spreading on the others face before joining the group back outside.
The old women informs Denki that these lovely people have volunteered to show him around town and even invited him to go bar hopping with them.
Denki agrees immediately and Sero can't help but be thankful that his boring life got interrupted by the ball of sunshine now walking next to him.

The large, antique mirror was always one of her favourite pieces of furniture in the house. Her mother had been an avid collector of rare, antique pieces and this was one of her most treasured finds.
Liz told her as a child that mirrors possess magical powers.
They don't lie.
Looking at herself today, Caroline knew that much was true. She barely recognised the woman staring back at her.
Her knee length, black, Chanel dress was modest but stylish and her blonde tresses were pulled back into a low chignon at the nape of her neck with a pair of simple, pearl earrings her only accessories.
She looked every bit the grieving ex-girlfriend, her publicist had made sure of it. The problem was, only half of that statement was true. Ex-girlfriend, yes, but grieving she wasn't quite sure.
Caroline walked to the nearby bay window, looking down at the beach below.
Her large mansion sitting atop the cliffs overlooking the sea had been an impulse purchase five years earlier. She'd bought it for her mother initially. But Liz always maintained that she preferred the small house on Mulberry Drive where she'd raised Caroline and it had remained vacant ever since.
She couldn't bring herself to sell it, if anything it was a veiled reminder to the residents of Mystic Falls who she'd become and just how much some had underestimated her worth. Petty, yes, but Caroline felt it was justified all the same.
She faltered, seeing the long stretch of sand below. It always reminded her of him. The lazy summer days that passed while they played in the surf and built a myriad of sandcastles, some even taller than Caroline. He was like that, always had to be the most competitive. The best.
But also so loving and kind, his unconditional support like a warm hug that she'd craved for too long before he arrived in town. He was everything she needed and that feeling had never abated, even after all this time.
She looked away and shook her head, determined to push those particular memories deeper inside. This trip was about her ex-boyfriend, not the boy with the dimples who rescued her and what they could have had, what they could have been. Caroline repeatedly told herself that their story was destined to be captured like a snapshot in time, nothing more.
After all, some of the greatest movies of all time were never made.
He'd gone on to become one of the hottest and most sought after actors in Hollywood, his recent nomination for an Academy Award his latest accomplishment.
Sure, she liked to pretend she didn't keep tabs on his life but that would be lying. Every time she saw him photographed in magazines and at movie premieres, his arm around the latest girlfriend, Caroline couldn't help but wish it was her.
But they'd had their chance and there was too much history between them to ever salvage what could have been.
"Caroline, you ready?" she turned to face her publicist and best friend from the doorway. "Are you sure you're going to be okay?" She nodded, her invisible mask now firmly in place, determined to hopefully get through this day unscathed and as quickly as possible.
Then she could get the hell out of Mystic Falls and never come back again.
1 week earlier...Empire Field Mile High, Denver CO
"Thanks everyone, you've been amazing, good night!" Caroline yelled into the microphone, waving at the heaving crowd for the last time.
Whether it was a small dive bar at the beginning of her career or the giant stadiums she'd graduated to, Caroline didn't think she'd ever tire of the feelings it evoked. Caroline didn't think she'd be here, let alone doing something that she loved. She'd been singing since she was a little girl sitting on her mother's lap but never thought she'd be singing her own songs for the masses.
She was discovered in one of those very dive bars at the age of nineteen. It was her first regular gig and although the clientele were either non-existent or questionable, Caroline was just grateful to have a steady job for three months.
When the handsome and immaculately dressed brunette (although she wouldn't admit that to him now) had entered the bar, looking completely out of place, she was mid-song. She could remember the cover song like it was yesterday, Breathe by Sia.
Just after her set, he'd produced one of those impressive-looking business cards before approaching her on stage. Enzo St John was his name. His demeanour was poised, his manner and unexpected British accent extremely polished.
"I'm going to make you a star."
If she wasn't so starving, desperate and facing eviction from her Santa Monica studio, Caroline probably would have scoffed at his cliched terminology. But she wasn't that much of an idiot.
And he did make her a star. As evidenced by her steady climb up the music charts, sold out concerts and complete make-over from small town girl to multiple grammy award winner and current 'it' girl if nights like this playing in Denver were anything to go by.
"You knocked it out of the park!" Enzo yelled, trying to be heard over the loud cheers from the manic crowd in Denver as she walked off stage.
"You do realise this is a football stadium, right?" She asked, taking the towel one of the stage hands had kindly provided.
"I don't understand." The way his forehead creased in utter confusion was enough to prove that very point.
"Of course he doesn't," her agent interrupted their conversation. "Enzo doesn't realise he's used a baseball metaphor because all he cares about is his beloved soccer."
"I'll pretend you didn't just commit blasphemy by calling football that dreaded word, Bennett," he huffed. "Bloody Americans."
"We love you too, Lorenzo," Caroline teased, throwing the towel she'd just used at him teasingly. "Now, what's next?"
Bonnie and Enzo looked at her mouths agape. Only Caroline Forbes, America's sweetheart, would be this hardworking. Her schedule was hectic enough but Caroline always took it in her stride and strived to do more and be better. Her mother had taught her that from a young age and she hadn't forgotten since.
"Ah, I don't know, maybe go back to the hotel and sleep, darling," Enzo responded, finally finding his voice. "This tour is only going to get crazier and you need to rest."
"Even Kat would recommend that and we all know how much she loves a good after party," Bonnie joked.
She was an agent at premiere talent company CAA and had recently come on the road for a few weeks. Caroline had met her and publicist Katherine Pierce not long after Enzo. The three were a packaged deal even if they did fight like siblings. Being an only child, Caroline actually relished in their incessant bickering.
Caroline weaved her way backstage and into her makeshift dressing room. Her finale outfit was meant to not only sparkle but also to stand out. Which was great but comfort definitely wasn't an overall factor in its design.
After an obligatory swig of Evian, she began to change. A knock at the door wasn't wholly unexpected, hence the screen she was standing behind. Usually, it was one of her personal staff needing to discuss various matters. Caroline was someone who didn't like to be alone, especially with her thoughts, so would never discourage company.
"Care," she heard her publicist call out. "You decent?"
"Come in, Kat," she said, albeit muffled by the top she was removing.
"Amazing show, as usual," she smiled, closing the door behind her. "How are you feeling?"
"Invigorated," she grinned. "Performing live is the best high anyone could ask for."
"Well, I'm glad," she began slowly,"because I have some news that I thought you should know." Caroline didn't like the sound of that, it was just like when she'd been informed her mother had passed away in the line of duty three years ago. She suddenly felt sick, holding onto the screen for some much- needed balance.
"News?"
"From your hometown," she added. "I wasn't sure if you already know but given your response I assume not."
"Just tell me," she snapped. Caroline knew it was uncalled for given she was just the messenger but there was something about the mention of Mystic Falls that had the tendency to throw her into a spin.
"I'm sorry," Kat soothed. "Your, uh, I mean, uh, Damon Salvatore has passed away."
Caroline felt the precarious sense of balance she had slowly slipping away, all the way onto the floor. It was only when Kat scooped her up and led her towards the couch that she finally processed her words.
Damon.
Dead.
"How?" She managed to bite out as Katherine force fed her some water.
"Motorcycle accident," she offered, brushing the hair from her forehead. "He collided with a vehicle on the interstate. It was instant."
Caroline closed her eyes. She'd always wondered what it would feel like to hear those words but it didn't register like she'd imagined. She'd wished so many bad things on him too many times. She thought there'd be a sense of relief or freedom.
But all she felt was nothing. Not sad, not angry, not shock or disbelief. Just nothing.
Besides Kat telling her she was "so sorry" and continuing to rub her back, the silence in the room was deafening.
"How do you, of all people, know that?" She croaked, sitting up and looking at her friend imploringly. They'd never met. Damon was nothing but a revised memory she'd concocted for her public image.
The typical small town girl with the high school sweetheart angle and her management team had eaten it up. If only it was true.
"Those rabid vultures at TMZ somehow got a hold of it, want to know if Caroline Forbes is attending his funeral in Mystic Falls."
"Well, given you just told me…"
"I know, like I said vultures," she hissed. "I'm not even going to justify their heartless request with a response. Can I get you anything, sweetie? Tissues, water, a really big bowl of chilli fries with extra ketchup?"
Caroline snuggled back into Katherine's embrace knowing exactly what she wanted. She wanted to forget, even if it was just for one night. "I need a really big bottle of tequila."
Caroline winced from the memory, thinking that tequila truly was evil and that she wouldn't be touching it again anytime soon.
Fast forward a couple of days and Caroline was here preparing for Damon's funeral. They'd only arrived late the night before so as to avoid the welcome circus. Her team had accompanied her to Mystic Falls in a show of support and she appreciated it, even if they didn't know the full story.
Given every media outlet knew about his death via TMZ, Caroline figured if she didn't go along with it then they'd know her backstory wasn't exactly what she'd sold them and that couldn't happen.
She'd worked too hard to get where she was and her past wasn't going to return and ruin that.

Request: Heyyy! Can you write a John x reader where she is the best friend of Ada and she and John have a secret relationship and Ada finds out and is mad about it but in the end everything is alright. Please, thank you for your time❤️
Words: 2088
hello lovies!!
this is my first request ever and i really hope that the one who wanted this would like it and i want a honest opinion on it!! in fact, i hope you all like it and sorry for any mistakes, i’m very tired rn.
love you soo much xx
Tumblr media
You met Ada Shelby a long time ago and you liked her right from that night you spend together at the library and then at the Garrison. But what was surprising for her family was that she quickly liked you too.
She don't usually accept females presence around her, but you were different. You were innocent, positive and always with a beautiful smile on your face. But Ada wasn't the only one that saw how amazing you are. Her family saw it too and Ada was very possessive over you.
Even when she told you stories about you how cruel her brothers are, you couldn't help but wanted to talk with them, to know more about and from them cause you are sure that they have something good in their hearts. And you talked the most with John. You met his children and you immediately started to love them, so that's what made you and John to talk more and start...something. Something that you kept away from Ada long before your first kiss with him.  You felt horrible when you wanted to tell her everything, about the kiss, about what you feel, but you just couldn't.
You started to fell hard for her brother and when he asked you to be his girlfriend, you couldn't say no. You were happy with him, you spent a lot of time together, but you kept hiding everything from Ada.
One night, you clearly remember how you wanted to tell her everything. You were at the bar with her and John was with his brothers in the back room of the pub, his eyes on you, wishing you would let him to just tell her already. He wanted...He craved so bad to claim you as his in front of everyone.
But you didn't tell her. She was down after just finding out that she is pregnant and after a few more days things became worst between her and Freddy and her family. She didn't even wanted to hear their names, so you kept your mouth closed a few more.
A few more until in the present when it's been a year and Ada still doesn't know.
You and John have a beautiful relationship now and his family knows about it, everyone except Ada. A week ago when John asked you to marry him and you accepted it, you swore that you will tell her no matter what but then Freddie died and Ada is grieving now.
So to try to make her feel a little better, you two are at the Garrison now. John is in the back room with the door wide open and is now looking at you, smirking to show you that he is supporting you. You smile back at him, not really believing that what you are living it's for real. He's so gentle and soft with you, caring and always try to show you that he cares. Yes, there are days when you don't see each other because of his family business that you don't know much about, but he's trying to be there for you and that's is what really matters.
"How's Karl?" You ask, thinking about that little monkey.
"He's with the nanny now. He don't really know much, he's too little..."
Her eyes are sad and you reach to her hand to grab it in yours.
"I'm there for you, love. Always."
"I know, [Y/N]. But is there a reason you wanted us to come 'ere?" She ask while raising an eyebrow and you slowly nod.
"In fact yes, but-..." Your tone it's low anyway, but you try to find the courage to just tell her already. Her interrupting you didn't helped.
"It can wait. Now, Harry! We want some whiskey!"
You smile a little to her, but when you catch John's eyes you just sigh, but then the door closed showing that they discuss business now. After two glasses of whiskey and some talking, Ada stand up from the chair and look at you with a dizzy little smile.
"Gonna be back." And she left to the bathroom, you alone in a pub full of men.
You wish the door to the back room was still open so you could feel safe, knowing John is watching you, but now you are really uncomfortable, knowing that you are being served only because of Ada. No one beside his brothers and Polly, knows that you are his fiancee and you start to hate this so fuckin much. You want it to be over.
"Wha' are ya doing alone here, love?" A raspy voice speaks to you and you turn your head to see a man with a long beard and a hat, looking at you with a dirty grin. You never saw him before and you grab the glass of whisky, holding it in your hand just in case.
"Wantin' for my friend. You can leave."
"Why would I do leave a beautiful girl like you? What's your name?" He sit on Ada's chair and you turn your head to the bathroom, hoping to see her, but she's not coming and you curse into your head when this creepy man touch your arm, holding you by it.
"Tell me love. What's your name?"
"[Y/N]." You don't know why you told him that, but you just did and his grin grow wider.
"So [Y/N]. What do you say about piss off to somewhere more private, hm?"  You quickly stand up, not wanting to just accept this anymore.
"I'm sorry, but I'm married." Your hand is still in his and his strain become tight, hurting your wrist.
"Married my ass. Where's him now?
He pull you to his chest, his nose inhaling your skin perfume as you try your hardest to push him off you. You think you may have a chance against him, but he stand up and try to grab you into his arms as he is whispering disgusting things in your ear.
"Come on love. I'll show you how a good man do things...Like that." You scream when his hand was under your dress, but no one cares about you. No one knows who you are.
"Just let me go to my friend...Please, let me go."
"No way in hell I-..."
You don't let him finish; you grab the glass of whiskey and you smash it in his head right after his fingers touched your thigh. He was caught off guards and let go of you, but don't last it too much because before you can even run away, he grab you again and slap your cheek. You bite your lips, tears all over your face as he pushed you into the bar, breaking a few glasses, pieces from them hurting your back.
"You stupid whore! You gonna pay for this."
"What the fuck is happenin' 'ere?" Tommy voice interrupted him from slapping your cheek again and John eyes are wide as he understand what happened.
"Who the fuck do you think you are?" His scream made everyone shut up and listen and when he approached you two, you almost jump into his arms, still crying. He push you behind him and you watch over his shoulder how his fist hit the man's nose, mouth and jawline a few times, him begging for forgiveness and mercy.
Arthur grab your shoulder to show you that you are safe now, but they let their brother do his thing, knowing that he's deserving it and John's is beyond furious now so no one can really stop him. You close your eyes when he take his cap off, knowing what's coming next; the man's screams are all over the pub now as John cut him and you can't watch.
"Are you 'right? He touched you?" John speaks to you, his eyes full of concern, grabbing you into his arms and kissing your forehead for the first time in front of everyone and then he loudly speaks again.
"Listen 'ere you bunch of fuckers! This girl" He pointed to you and kiss your cheek "This fuckin girl is gonna be my fuckin wife and if you don't respect the shit outta her, you are gonna end up worse than this worm."
You are left speechless into his arms, not really believing that he did this. But then you saw Ada, her face falling to the floor while looking at you.
"Come again. She's what?"
"Ada, it's not-"
Of course, everyone is now looking at you two.
"So it's true? You marry him and you didn't tell me a single thing?" She is almost screaming and when you try to grab her arm, she lost her balance and almost fell, but Tommy grab her just in time and push you all into the back room while screaming at the others.
"The show it's over. Back to your fuckin' business!"
Ada is laughing now, muttering that she can't believe this and she puffed at the sight of you in John's arms.
"Why are you so against us? I love her. It's been a year, Ada-"
"A fuckin year!" She sadly laughs again.
"I want to marry her because I love her. Why are you so against this?"
John's voice is sad and it's breaking your heart to see him like this, so you stand into his arms, not saying anything because Ada start to scream again with fire burning in her eyes like a true Shelby she is.
"You think you are strong enough to fuckin be in this dysfunctional family? Cause you are not! They going to ruin you, your innocence, your happiness...They going to ruin everything you have until they are everything you have. Until you can't do shit without them by your fuckin side."
"So what? I have no one beside you anyway!" You snap back at her. "My parents are dead!"
"And you are going to be dead too very soon. Just like Martha. Just like Freddie. Just like fuckin everyone who tries to love one of us. We destroy everything we touch."
And she leave the pub like a tornado. Everyone is mute behind her, you sobbing uncontrollably in John's arms, he trying to calm you down.
It's been a month and Ada is still not talking to you nor her family. You hoped that she will come around since you moved with John and tomorrow it's your wedding day, but she didn't tell anyone a single word. Not even to Polly, after she finds out that everyone knew.
You wanted her so bad to be there for you in this special day, but you stop trying to win her back if she doesn't want it. You can't force yourself into her life and you keep telling yourself this to understand it. You and John won't sleep together tonight because Polly want to do all the gipsy traditions and you agreed, but when John walk into the room where you are gonna sleep he wasn't alone, but with Ada.
"What?" You ask confused, but with a growing smile on your lips.
"Tell her." Ada speak to her brother and he grab your wrist, pulling you closer to him and kissing your temple before talking.
"Ada came to me and apologized for everything. And..I think she has something to tell you too. I just came 'ere to tell you good night and that I can't wait to see you tomorrow."
You smile at John, pulling him into your lips, crashing your lips together in a sweet innocent kiss.
"I love you. So much." You mutter and John let his face into your hair, before kissing it.
"And I love you, princess." He look at his sister and then back at you. "I'll let you two alone and go drinking with the lads. See ya tomorrow."
"I'll be the one in white!"
You both chuckle, but when he close the door behind him you remain silent, not knowing what to do, but somehow just knowing that both of you regret it.
"You know, I'm sorry for every mean thing I said to you. I mean it, this family destroy everything and everyone, but you and John...You deserve him and you love each other, so who am I to ruin your happiness? And...To ruin my best friend and brother's wedding day."
You smile and you can't say anything right now, you just hug her with happy tears in your eyes. You were sad because of your friendship, but now you have no reason at all to not be happy.
"And I'm sorry for hidin' it from you. I wanted to tell you so many times, but-...
"Doesn't matter now. But" She is dead serious now. "I want to know how he proposed and if he wasn't on his fuckin knee, I will shoot him."
You both start laughing so hard until you hear Finn hitting the wall with his fists to shoot you down.

What Happened at the Party
Bwhahahahaaha. This is for the Breakup theme.
What Happened at the Party
When she saw the familiar little green car, Caitlin felt her stomach lurch. Her friend Iris, who'd driven up at the same time as her, gave her a worried glance. "You gonna be okay?"
"Fine!" Caitlin said breezily. "Fine."
"Uh  . . . huh," her friend mumbled. "Look, if you just want to stay for a little while, Barry would totally understand."
"It's been a year since Cisco and I broke up," Caitlin said. "We dated for a year. You know there's that formula where you grieve the end of a relationship for half the length of time the relationship lasted?"
"I mean, that's like a guideline, really, " Iris said.
"Okay, a guideline. By that guideline, I'm well beyond the grieving period and I'll be just fine."
"If you say so."
The door opened and Barry lit up, swooping in to kiss Iris. Caitlin, well used to their grand romantic gestures, waited patiently until they came up for air. "Hi, Barry," she said.
"Hi," he said, eyes zeroing in on the dish she carried. "Oooohhhh. Pie?"
"Mmhm. Chocolate peanut butter."
"Nice," Barry said. "Okay! So! Fun fact. Cisco's here."
"It's okay," Caitlin said. "I saw his car."
"And he brought somebody."
Caitlin's stomach dropped.
"Wait," Iris said, holding up a hand. "This is Cisco. He's friendly. He's probably introduced you to half the people here today. Did he bring somebody or did he bring somebody?"
Barry looked baffled for a moment. "Whichever one means he has a new girlfriend?"
Caitlin felt her stomach go ice-cold.
"Oh shit," Iris said. "Babe, you didn't tell me he was dating someone new."
"He said it's only been a couple of weeks, so they're all kissy and huggy and snuggly -"
Iris hissed at him and turned to Caitlin. "Should we hate her? We can hate her."
"No," Caitlin said. "I'm sure she's very nice. Cisco's always had good taste in partners, mostly." She hesitated.
"This isn't a Lisa situation," Barry said promptly. "I checked. No Lisa vibe."
"See?" Caitlin said. "No Lisa vibe. What's she like?"
"Uh, her name is Kamilla, and she's like a photographer, I think? Oh, and she's vegan. That's all I got."
Caitlin mustered up a smile. "Great."
Barry cocked his head. "Great, like, you think she sounds awful and that's great? Or -"
"Look, I still  care about Cisco and I want him to be happy. So great means great. I'll go out there and I'll say hello, and I'll meet her, and it'll be - "
"Great?" Iris suggested.
"Fine," Caitlin said firmly.
They looked at her doubtfully.
"I can handle this, guys, I promise. It won't be like last year. Thank you for the heads-up, Barry." She lifted her pie. "Usual place?"
"Yeah, you know where it is," he said, waving her through.
He turned to Iris. "You think this is going to be okay?"
"Hard to say," she said. "And by the way, honey, we need to work on your definition of fun fact."
--
Caitlin dropped off her pie at the dessert table and circulated through the party, smiling and greeting people she knew. She chatted with someone about their new dog, another person about their job, a third person about the weather.
The whole time, some internal radar was zeroed in on the man across the backyard. Who he was talking to. How he laughed. The bright smile on his face.
How his arm had never left its spot around the waist of the cute girl cuddled up to his side.
As far as she could tell, he didn't even know she was here.
Which was fine by her.
"Hmmm?" she said, vaguely aware that someone had asked her a question.
"I said I'm surprised you came," Sara repeated. "After what happened last year."
"Nice," said her girlfriend.
"What? I'm just saying. It was kind of a blowout."
Caitlin grimaced. "I know. Cisco and I had been on the rocks for a few weeks but that was - " She shook her head. "We should have saved that fight for home." She gripped her elbows and raised her chin. "But we agreed, after we broke up, that we wouldn't put Iris or Barry in the middle of things and we could be cordial to each other, which is what we're doing."
"Okayyyyy," Sara mumbled and took a drink.
It wasn't as if their breakup was the only thing that had ever happened at Barry's annual birthday bash, Caitlin thought, making her excuses and going off to say hi to someone else. She and Cisco had also met here, five years ago. The click had been immediate, almost audible. They'd made plans to hang out within minutes of meeting, had been fast friends by the end of the week.
And two years ago, they'd kissed for the first time - there, around the side of the house where it was quiet and green and smelled like roses.
But Sara was right. Last year, it had all fallen apart.
Sometimes Caitlin tried to track where or how their relationship had collapsed. After all, they'd been good friends for three years before they started dating. But what had been so good at the start had turned bad so gradually that before she knew it they were fighting more than they were talking and the thought of him made her stomach knot instead of bringing a smile to her face.
Then she'd said those terrible words, under that tree right there, where she'd dragged him so they wouldn't be fighting in the middle of the party: "You know what, maybe I don't even want to be with you anymore."
And he'd said the equally terrible words: "Maybe I don't either."
Then it had been all icy silences and stiff texts letting him know that his stuff was on her porch and he could leave hers in its place. Such an awful end to something that had been the best part of her life for so long. Sometimes she thought she missed the friendship as much as she missed the romantic relationship.
The smell of the grill tempted her in its direction, and she was almost there when she realized with a lurch of horror that Cisco and his new girlfriend - what was her name? Kamilla, that was it - were already walking up.
She thought about running in the other direction.
But this would have to happen sometime, and she was hungry, and it was best to get it over with now instead of later. Especially since later, it might be just them, and she didn't know if she could grit her teeth and act cordial without other people around them. At least it was just Barry, who was running the barbecue grill, and if she slipped up he wouldn't blame her.
"Hey, Barry," Kamilla said. "Can you put on a veggie dog for me?"
Cisco hugged her closer. "Go ahead and put one on for me too."
She turned a beaming face toward him. "Babe! You don't have to."
"Yeah, babe, but I wanna kiss you later and you don't like the taste of meat."
She giggled. "Baaaabe."
"Hey, Caitlin," Barry said rather loudly. "Your usual?"
"Yes, thank you," she said, pretending not to notice that Cisco had jerked like someone had tasered him. "Oh, Cisco, hi. I was wondering if I'd see you here today."
Barry coughed, although that could have been some smoke getting blown in his face, and tossed a turkey patty next to the two veggie dogs.
"Hey, Caitlin," Cisco said. Was it her imagination, or did he grip Kamilla's waist a little tighter? "When did you get here?"
"A little while ago," Caitlin said. She smiled at Kamilla. "Hi, I'm Caitlin."
"Kamilla," Cisco's new girlfriend said, smiling back. "So how do you know each other?"
Cisco jumped in. "She’s - ah - she's an old - we dated for about a year."
Clearly, this was new information to Kamilla, from the way the smile on her face went rigid for a split second. But Caitlin had to give her props for recovery. "Hi, Caitlin," she said. "Nice to meet you. So when was this? In high school?"
"Nope," she said. "We broke it off - what, Cisco, about a year ago now?" She was proud of herself for the breeziness in her tone.
"Mmm, yeah, about that," he said, as if he hadn't stormed out of this exact party and she hadn't gone inside to cry in the bathroom for an hour.
"Oh," Kamilla said, sounding only a little bit strangled.
Had he seriously not warned her that Caitlin was going to be here? Or maybe he hadn't given it, or her, a single thought since they broke up. Caitlin considered glaring at him, but thought it might get misinterpreted.
"Well!" Kamilla said. "It's nice to meet you."
"You too! How did you meet?"
"Oh, he came into the bar where I work," Kamilla said, beaming at Cisco. "I thought he was going to spend the whole night hitting on college girls but he spent it talking to me."
"So you're a bartender?"
"Day job," Kamilla said. "I'm actually a photographer."
"You should see her work," Cisco said. "It's really artistic."
"That's so interesting! Do you sell any?"
"Just a few prints online, a little stock photography, you know. But I'm hoping to get a show someday. What do you do?"
"Oh, I'm a research scientist," Caitlin said.
"Oh," Kamilla said rather faintly. Was she bored or intimidated? Caitlin had gotten both. "Neat! Researching what?"
"My focus right now is on gene therapies that can hopefully stall or reverse the progress of multiple sclerosis."
Cisco's eyes lit. "Seriously? That's great, I know you wanted to get into that area."
Warmth spilled through her chest, and she smiled at him. He'd always been like this, even at the end. "Yes, I was really happy to get assigned to that project."
"How is your dad doing these days?"
"He's using his cane a lot more lately, but he's also on a new medication that's really helping with his fatigue." She glanced at Kamilla and explained, "My dad has MS."
"Oh, I'm sorry," Kamilla said in that particular hushed, funereal way people had when they'd never had to think about chronic illness even once.
Caitlin kept her smile pasted on. "It’s okay. He's had it all my life. It's just something we've always lived with, as a family."
She thought about asking after Cisco's parents, but at that moment, Barry chirped, "Veggie dogs up!"
He held out two plates to Cisco and Kamilla, their dogs bunned up and ready to go. "Caitlin, it's going to be a few more minutes for yours."
"Oh, sure," Caitlin said. "That's fine."
"Let's go hit the potluck table, babe," Cisco said.
"Oh yes!” Kamilla cried, with outsize enthusiasm given that she probably couldn’t eat ninety percent of the offerings. “Caitlin, it was nice to meet you."
"You too!" Caitlin said, and turned toward Barry. "So how is life at CCPD these days?"
He chatted with her about his job for a moment or two, then said in a low voice, "So that was okay."
"Sure," she said.
He looked sympathetic. "You want cheese?"
"No, I'm all right." She picked up a plate and held it out for her turkey burger, thinking well, that's over.
She sat on the steps of the deck, next to somebody she'd known in her grad program. They chatted about minor scandals in the science world and she ate her turkey burger in slow, careful bites, not tasting a single one.
She wandered by the potluck table, stood staring at the side salads and chips and veggie trays that people had brought. She took a carrot stick and laid it on her plate. It looked small and withered and alone.
So unbelievably alone.
She added a celery stick. That didn’t seem to help. She tipped them both into the trash and decided it was time for dessert.
The dessert table was in the kitchen, so she went inside, air-conditioned air washing around her. She wanted sugar, badly. Chocolate, cookies, popsicles, whatever people had brought that would rot her teeth and block the tears.
She checked on her pie and was gratified to see that her little sign saying "Contains peanuts!" was still there, and that one quarter of the pie was already gone. She had made two pies, leaving one at home in the fridge because she'd known how this would go, so she skipped over it and checked out what else was on offer.
Chocolate chip cookies. Individual ice cream cups in a cooler. Mini eclairs in their Costco box, still frozen in the center. A shining chocolate cake in a plastic carrying case. Yes, yes, all of it.
"Hey."
She looked over, then away, quickly. "Hi," she said a little overbrightly, to the parfait she was scooping onto her plate. Shit. He knew she ate sugar when she was upset. But she also liked desserts in general. Maybe she would get away with this.
He was alone. Where was Kamilla? Bathroom, maybe?
Act natural.
He said, "I, uh - "
"Which one did you bring?" He'd always liked cooking, trying out new things. Sometimes that had been a cause of friction, like when he used every pot in the kitchen and it turned out terrible and they'd wound up going to the drive-thru at nine o'clock at night.
"There," he said, pointing at a box with a clear plastic lid.
"Donuts!" she said.
"Mmhm. Kamilla and I made them together."
"Oh," she said.
They'd attempted to cook together a few times but since cooking was how she relaxed and disconnected, it hadn't gone well.
She opened the box. "Well, I've never had vegan donuts but I'm sure they'll be interesting."
His hand reached past hers and gently closed the box. For a moment, she thought, you don't even want me touching something you made with her? Then he said, "They're not great. Trust me."
“They can’t be that bad."
He shook his head, very solemn. "Vegan donuts are donuts of sadness," he said. "I have learned this."
"I'm sure there are some vegan donuts that are good."
"Proooooobably," he allowed. "But these are not it." He grinned at her, and instinctively, she smiled back.
"Okay," she said, leaving the box closed.
He chose a mini-eclair for himself and bit it in half. “So are you here with someone?”
She meant to say a simple no, but it came out as, “Oh, he was busy today.”
“Oh? He? Someone I know?"
She swallowed, panic bubbling up. “No, you wouldn't know him. I work with him.”
“Another Star Labs workaholic?”
That shouldn't have stung as hard as it did, but it brought back a nasty echo of their hissed fight over by the barbecue grill last summer, as he'd accused her of never having time for him. Her voice went chilly as she said, "He doesn't work at Star Labs and neither do I anymore. I took a job with Mercury."
"You? You left Star Labs? The most prestigious, well-paid research lab in the Midwest?" he asked, echoing what she’d always recited as reasoning for sticking with her job.
"I decided to value my mental health more than money and prestige. Mercury is much more supportive of their employees' work/life balance."
He blinked. “Wow, that’s - that’s great.”
She picked up a spoon and started scooping something out of a random bowl onto her plate. "So how are you? How are your parents?"
"I'm good," he said. "My parents are . . . they were good, the last I saw them."
She glanced at him quickly. Ever since she'd known him, he'd been at his parents' beck and call, running every time they texted. During that last terrible argument, she'd snapped back that he might see her more if he wasn't constantly canceling dates because his parents needed him. "Did they move?"
"No, I just, ah, I went low-contact with them. Haven't really talked to them in about - " He considered. "About a month now."
"Oh," she said, looking back at her plate. She'd gotten Chester's dreadful candy bar salad with the pineapple. Ugh. Gross. "Any - um - any particular reason?"
If he’d broken off contact with his parents because of Kamilla, after all the times his mother had been rude to Caitlin, calling her things in Spanish she wasn’t supposed to understand . . .
He laughed, but it held no mirth. "They stood me up for my birthday dinner because Dante needed help buying a car." He shrugged. "I kind of figured out that I was never going to be their favorite or their priority. No matter what I did."
She put her hand on his shoulder. "I'm sorry."
"Yeah, well . . ." he mumbled.
"It's their loss," she said. "Is it better for you?"
"Hurts like hell," he said. "But yeah. It's better."
"You seem happy," she said. "I mean, in general."
"I am."
"Good. I'm glad." She realized she was still holding shoulder, and removed it so she could portion herself some of Iris's ambrosia. "Kamilla's nice," she said brightly.
"She is! Yeah. She is."
"How long has it been?"
"Oh, like a month now? It's really good. I can see this going the distance, you know?"
She felt like she'd swallowed razor blades. "That's great."
He smiled at her. "Hey, you know what, we should double-date."
"We should what?"
"Yeah, me and Kamilla, you and your guy. We should grab dinner together or something."
"Oh. Well, actually - " He lives in London. He has a moral objection to eating out. He's in training to go to the moon. He - "We really aren't like that."
"Like what?"
"Dating. It's just . . . casual." She smiled. "You know? No strings attached kind of thing. When we've both got some free time and need to blow off steam."
He blinked a few times. "You? You have a fuck buddy."
She hated that term. It made her skin crawl. Cisco knew that perfectly well, so she just shrugged. "I guess you could call it that." She ate a grape out of the ambrosia, licking it clean of whipped cream and biting it in half. "Sorry, I don't think a nice foursome dinner is in our future. But it was nice seeing you."
She strolled off, hoping like crazy that Cisco didn't mention this fictitious casual sex partner of hers to anybody else.
She made herself do one more circuit of the backyard. She had no idea who she saw or what she said. She was focused on not looking like she was about to run away.
Even though she was.
Iris found her dumping her plate into the kitchen trash. "Heard the first face-to-face went down," she said. "You okay?"
"I came, I saw him, we were cordial. I survived," Caitlin said. "And if I go home and dive face-first into a pint of Cherry Garcia and a bottle of wine, that's nobody's business but my own."
Iris put her arm around Caitlin's shoulder and hugged her gently. "That whole grieving process guideline?"
"Whoever made that up is full of shit."
--
Some hours later, Barry dropped into the lawn chair next to Cisco. "Hey, man. You awake?"
"Yup," Cisco said, head tipped back, eyes closed. He swung his beer bottle lightly between his fingers. "Almost outta beer though."
Barry considered it. "How many of those have you had?"
Cisco tipped it up and drained it. "Almost enough."
"You okay to drive?"
"Mmmmmm. Might hafta crash on your couch. 'Zat okay?"
"You know it is." Barry nudged him. "You don't even have to use the couch. You and Kamilla can use the guest room."
"Mmmmm." Cisco dropped the bottle to the grass. "Sh'left."
"She what? She left?"
"Called an Uber. Kinda mad at me."
"Why?"
"Says I didn't give her a heads-up Caitlin was gonna be here. Or that we dated. Like, c'mon, we've only been together a week and a half. People have exes. It's a thing."
"Still, she might've appreciated the heads-up."
Cisco sighed. "Yeah, I guess, I just . . . I didn't wanna talk to her about Caitlin. It's like, sore. Who wants to talk about their last ex?"
"A lot of people," Barry said. "Especially when she's going to be at the same party, which you knew, cuz I told you."
Cisco sighed again, more heavily. "Okay, yeah, maybe you've got a point. I'll call her tomorrow and apologize. Plus she has nothing to be afraid of. Caitlin doesn't want me back." He swung his bottle again. "So wait, you know who this guy is?"
"What guy?"
"The guy she's dating now."
Barry cocked his head. "Kamilla?"
"Nnnnoooooooooo," Cisco drawled. "Kamilla's dating me. Caitlin's dating . . . some dude. Actually not dating. She's all like, 'ha-ha, we're not like that.' They're friends with benefits or something."
This was the first Barry had heard of it. He opened his mouth to say so when Cisco plowed on with the tenacity of the sloppy drunk.
"Which, what the hell, man? I suggested friends with benefits years ago and she was like no, I don't do that, it doesn't work for me, I need to be in a relationship. Took me another six months to man the fuck up and ask her out for realsies. Who's this guy that's getting her to settle for less than what she wants?" He wagged his finger in the air. "You! You should find out who he is, Bare. You should find out who he is and kick his ass."
Barry smiled at nothing. "You could kick his ass. I mean, you're the one who seems to think it should be done."
"C'mon, I can't do that, then everyone would say I was just jealous. M'not jealous. Just, she deserves better than, than, you know, some dude who just wants to get laid. Just like a friendly ass-kicking. C'mon."
"Okay, maybe."
"I'm not jealous. I'm with Kamilla."
"Mmmmhmm," Barry said, eating some pie. "I can tell. You're totally over Caitlin."
"Totally," Cisco said, and lifted his head, looking around blearily. "Hey, where'd m'beer go?"

Another Way (BP, Aisha x MC)
Tumblr media
So this is my first Bachelorette Party fanfic...and believe me, when I first saw the ads I would have never expected to write for this book but then Aisha Bhatt happened. And this is my way to give back for that, if you wish. This fanfic takes place a few time after the rooftop scene with Aisha where the two of them confessed their mutual crush.
In short, Aisha goes checking on Amanda (MC) who suddenly retreated to their room while Di and Court discuss how to deal with Skip at the hotel bar. She finds her on the balcony grieving her hurtful break-up. I know BP is a light-hearted book but that was harsh and I’m surprised MC doesn’t seem troubled at all by that!

____________________________
Already half an hour had passed since Amanda left the ground floor bar the Girl Scouts gathered to discuss how to deal with the latest turn of events: Skip was on his way to Las Vegas to put an end to "the embarrassing debauchery of this bachelorette party of yours", he said. They were brainstorming about how to stop this "unacceptable interference" (Court's words) when Mandy's phone started beeping. Courtney and Di were so passionately debating whether to confront him directly or moving immediately to make it harder for him to find them that they didn't notice, but Aisha saw it. As soon as she read the name of the caller she immediately rejected the call and dropped the phone, sending it falling on the table as if it turned into a burning rock in her hands.
The thud of its fall made Courtney and Diana turn towards her. "Please tell me it wasn't him!" Di said, her voice almost shaking with anxiety. "What? No, Di! He doesn't even have my number" Di gave a troubled look then nodded and went back listening to the absurd plan Courtney was sharing with all of them. Amanda tried to follow the conversation but she looked distant, a thousand miles away. After a few minutes, she excused herself, saying that she had a terrible headache and left the table. When it was clear she wasn't coming back any time soon, Aisha took her leave too and went checking on her. She went straight to their hotel room hoping to find her there: it sounded the most logical choice and Amanda was a logical person as far as she knew. But she wasn't in her room nor hiding in the bathroom and not even in the living room. Aisha was about to try elsewhere when she spotted her silhouette on the balcony, her hair gently swaying in the night's breeze. Amanda was leaning over the railing gazing off into the distance and barely noticed her approaching. "Hey are you okay? You got me worried..." Aisha asked, moving closer and standing beside her. "Oh don't be, I'm good" Amanda shrugged as if to minimize. "My headache is subsiding, I just needed some fresh air" "You've always been the worst liar, Mandy" Aisha gave her a smile that failed to hide her concern. Then she sighed and added, diverting her eyes from her: "The call earlier...it was Kyle, wasn't it?" Amanda stiffened and clenched her jaw, but no word came out of her mouth. She just winced so Aisha spoke again. "Mandy, I know we all said that we're happy you broke up with her but that doesn't change what happened nor makes it any easier to process for you. You're allowed to grieve: if I got it right, you two have been together for a while..." "Two years. Well, almost...it would have been two years in two months" Amanda confirmed, grimacing. "Two years are quite some time. I just want you to know that you can come to us if you wanna talk about it. If it helps you, that is." She turned towards her. "You can come to me and this won't change anything between us" Amanda turned and gave her a pained look. "For real? I don't want you to think that this is just a rebound-" "I know, Mandy...and I trust you" Aisha reassured her, giving her hand a quick squeeze. "I just want to be there for you" Amanda stared deeply into her dark eyes for a moment to assure she was saying the truth then slowly moved closer and rested her head over her long-time crush's shoulder. Aisha immediately wrapped her arm around her waist as if to sustain her, to anchor her when a wave of sorrow was threatening to hit the young lawyer. "I feel so stupid, Aisha. So stupid and naïve and...hurt" she sighed and shut her eyes. Reminiscing that day was so painful. She could still remember the carefree excitement she felt driving home: she even sang along with the radio, tapping the wheel in sync with the beat. She mentally praised herself for what a great spot she had found to hide the gorgeous lingerie she bought as a special gift for their anniversary: there were still a couple of months left but she decided to be more spontaneous -as Kyle suggested more than once - and surprise her girlfriend that night. Kyle wouldn't have been home for a while so she would have had plenty of time to set the mood for a romantic night. She wasn't done coming up with ideas and foretasting the look on Kyle's face when...it all crumbled to pieces. Not just their night but everything. So she shut down her feelings and packed her suitcase: direction Las Vegas. "If there's one thing romcoms teach you is: never get home earlier than expected to make a sweet surprise to your partner because..." Amanda paused, overwhelmed by the weight of what came next. "...because the surprise you find is never sweet. I should have watched more romcoms maybe" "What are you saying?" Aisha asked, hoping that she got it all wrong. Amanda laughed, but her laughter was bitter, hollow...it told of pain rather than actual humor. "You should watch more romcoms too apparently, huh? It just means that the day Courtney called I came home earlier than expected because I wanted to surprise Kyle...and it went all wrong. I was getting ready when she came home and", Amanda swallowed hard: here goes the toughest part of the story... "and she stormed into our bedroom lip-locked with a girl" "What?!" "That was just the beginning: a moment later, a guy in a banana suit joined them. My guess? For a threesome" "Mandy she cheated on you?? What the fuck!" Aisha exclaimed. She tried to keep her cool but she was furious inside: not only that Kyle was the grossest and most idiotic girl she had ever met to the point she couldn't help but wonder what a smart brilliant young woman like Amanda saw in her, but apparently she was also too blind to understand what a gem she had by her side. So stupid to take her for granted, to cover her with lies and betray her trust in the most hurtful way. Amanda didn't deserve any of this. Amanda, her beautiful beloved Amanda...she would have never hurt her or treated her like that if she was her girlfriend. But Aisha missed so many chances...and Kyle was there to take them. Unlike her, Kyle had the guts to approach her at a party, ask her out on a date and, a few months later, to be her girlfriend. Aisha grimaced as realization sunk in. "Yeah but that's...nothing out of ordinary" Amanda sighed, bringing her back to the hotel balcony. "Nothing out of ordinary?" Aisha furrowed her brows. "Define 'ordinary' then cause I'm afraid I'm losing you here!" "I mean...in the long run girls tend to leave or choose someone else over me. Some say it out loud and clear, while others...well others let me find out myself" Aisha released her and gently turned her so that she could face the lawyer. She gave her a long intense stare, pressing her lips together as she searched the right words to say. "Mandy, this is not how healthy relationships work...nor love" "It's how they work for me, I guess" Amanda shrugged, wincing. "Maybe I am the problem after all...I'm almost sure that it wasn't even the first time that-" "Mandy, snap out of it and erase that thought! You are NOT the problem" Aisha interrupted her. "True, it takes two to tango and I am probably biased here but it seems to me that girls like Kyle were just jerks to you. Plain and simple. But Mandy, you are one of the most amazing, brilliant and thoughtful people I know. You're funny, even when you crack terrible jokes, you always come up with interesting things to say or facts to share and you're so...inherently, genuinely good! I...well, I don't know you as a girlfriend but you used to leave all those cute notes for us back in college, you drew smiles with jam over pancakes when I was mopey or stressed, and you, you're so kind and gorgeous and...how can you be THE problem? How can THIS be the problem? You...what I mean to say..." Aisha took a deep breath in an attempt to summon up all her courage to say the words that were left unsaid for so long, too long. It's now or never: please, self, don't mess it up again! "Let me show you that there's another way. Let me prove them wrong, Mandy" "You're not saying that just because I'm moping and pity-partying...right?" Amanda shyly bit her own lip. "No, no sweetheart" Aisha laughed softly and tenderly stroke the lawyer's cheek. "I seriously want to ask you out on a date when we catch a breath from this case and this bachelorette party, if there’s still a wedding to celebrate" Aisha flashed her a weak smile. "I've wanted to ask you out on a date for so long but...I chickened out" she blushed, lowering her eyes. Then, feeling Amanda's gaze on her, she looked back at her, putting on a shy smile filled with sudden hope. "If we get the briefcase back and I get my money, I can even take you to one of those fancy restaurants where the menu is filled with unpronounceable French names!" "But you said you have so many debts!" "I know but I could make an exception for once...for you" Aisha's cheeks reddened again and Amanda found herself smiling, a tired yet affectionate smile...the first that day. Aisha was so irresistibly cute when she allowed herself to take off the cynic tough girl mask and to be just herself. The 28 years old woman who would still blush like a teen when she finally stopped hiding her feelings and started fantasizing about "the perfect date" with her. It was so...Aisha, so what made her fell for her kindest and insecure roomie who didn't seem to notice her awkward flirting attempts. "I'm no high maintenance, Aisha, you know me. We can go there if you're so adamant...but I don't need a fancy restaurant if you ask me out" Amanda moved closer and pressed a tender kiss on her lips. Then she snaked her arms around her waist, swiftly finding her place into Aisha's arms as if she had always belonged there. She rested her head over her shoulder, her hair tickling her crush's neck. "I would be okay even with sandwiches or frozen pizza. All I'd need to be happy is you" "I would never forgive myself if after all these years I'll get you frozen pizza on our first date" Aisha managed to joke, despite the lump of happiness forming in her throat. "Just know that I wouldn't mind it" Amanda chuckled. When her laughter faded away and that pang of pain stroke back, she held her anchor a little tighter and hid her face in the crook of Aisha's neck. "Can we stay like this for a bit more?" "Of course, sweetheart. I'm not going anywhere" Aisha whispered, stroking her back.
