I don't get people who hate any member of the Jade Winglet. All they did was be traumatized teens who learned to be themselves with their friends what did they do

My humble request.
More fics that explore the implications of John being "a deeply annoying child" and the fact that it was apparently normal for him to wander his hometown until sunset with no company or adult supervision as an eight-year-old (and potentially younger).

Spirit of embracing change part 1
I see a lot of negative nellies about all the talk of changes with the animation and look I get it. I'm not a fan of all the changes made in TLOVM, but overall, it's a rad show and its pretty fucking cool. So I figured in the spirit of embracing change I'd come up with something I genuinely hope they change in The Mighty Nein animated show.
One of the few things that actually really bothered me in C2, as opposed to my many more minor critiques, was the Mighty Nein's treatment of Astrid and Eadwulf. The Volstruckers are just as much victims of Trent as Caleb is, they are child soldiers all grown up. Their distinct lack of recognition of that and lack of compassion through most of the campaign was always very disheartening. In the end battle their moral compass Caduceus was busy dealing with his burning home, I really wish they had stepped up and been kind rather than their usual douchbaggey selves. I think Beau and Fjord talking Astrid down from killing Trent was great and was the energy I was looking for all along, that whole scene was fantastic and I loved it. But I was really hoping for more.
Beau doesn't trust Astrid and Eadwulf, which sure fine, don't trust them, but like, invite them over for dinner lol. They can be your new fucked up friends on the path of rehabilitation, why are you guys just letting this shit hang? Caleb literally loves them/ used to love them what is happening? Yes Astrid took the job in the Cerberus Assembly, she could be trying to change it for the better, and there's a greater chance of that if you all become friends! You've got your war criminal buddy out there gardening as a proof of concept, keep going! Unlike Essek, Astrid and Eadwulf's situation isn't their fault. (Yes, they are now adults and are therefore responsible for their own actions, but also, come on, what choices did they really have, very few if you're being honest about it).
Unlike Caleb, Astrid and Eadwulf weren't able to escape Trent, but they still helped The Mighty Nein several times, and frankly, the M9 were deeply ungrateful and entitled about it. Astrid let them go! She could have completely screwed them with a well-placed counterspell, and she didn't. They warned the M9 about Trent's shenanigans and defenses. Beau saw Astrid crying in an alleyway and did nothing with that information! Have they not earned ANY goodwill from you people?!?! Christ on a crutch, have some empathy! Sure knock them out if they are getting in your way, don't let them hurt you, but when the dust settles, get over yourself and really help them!
(And before anyone makes a somewhat gross argument about the difference between Caleb's worthiness vs Astrid and Eadwulf being that he escaped, leaving his abusive environment by choice, EEEEEH WRONG his escape was literally having a mental breakdown and being put in an insane asylum which was somehow a good thing! Which goes to show the horrific position they were all in. They couldn't leave voluntarily, they were all trapped, Caleb just as much as the rest. Caleb just had the ?Good fortune? of having his brain collapse under the strain. Caleb has been able to have a life free of Trent for a few years to learn and grow, Astrid and Eadwulf haven't had that opportunity yet, it's just starting right at the end of the campaign. The M9 could have been there for them if they really wanted to.
C3 proves that their relationship is still complicated, as Essek attacks (nonlethally) rather than just having a conversation, but they exchange a polite-ish greeting to/from Caleb so it's still muddled, here's hoping that relationship gets better in future campaigns, fingers crossed! (Caleb, is canonically polyamorous, has two hands and can make copies of himself, I'm just putting that out there. Matt and Liam need to stop breaking my heart lmfao).
Anyway, my hope is that they actually thread together all of the moments from the campaign and now, with the benefit of hindsight, have it weave in and out of the story satisfactorily with the M9 being a bit more cognizant and grateful of the risks they took to help the M9 and their terrible situation. About Astrid and Eadwulf being insanely traumatized victims of brainwashing and abuse. Victims who were trapped living with, working with, and interacting with their abuser on a daily basis for like a quarter of a century.

[ID: An oil pastel painting/comic of Gertrude Robinson and a young Jon Sims from tumblr user occudo's "The Magus Archives" AU. An unamused Gertrude carries a curious Jon, who pulls on her hat and smushes their cheeks together. He asks "Will I get a hat like this one day?" Gertrude responds "Maybe…when you stop getting into trouble all the time!" Jon cries out "Nannnn!" ./. END ID]
Dw he get a hat *just* like that one. Eventually :))
Based off of the Magus Archives AU aka the Witch!Jon and Knight!Martin AU by @occudo whose art is so good, you're probably already following. Really fun AU and I love Gertrude being Jon's nan :DD

Honestly you can get away with basically any 'weird' name (at least in the south) without judgment by just going 'it's a family name.' Everybody nods sagely.
This does not help them with pronunciation but it does mean they go away thinking you come from a solid family with Traditions near their own.
The fact that my name is a family name by virtue of until my existence being a surname is, I feel, irrelevant.

69 kinks AFOMachia Number 58
58. scent | wc: ~400
All for One grew up surrounded by trash. He used to wear trash. He hadn’t known to be disgusted by it until he confronted that glowing child from China, who’d scrunched his nose up and ignored the fresh blood splattered on All for One’s face and clothes, instead insulting All for One for bringing in the scent of the unwashed masses into his sterile fortress of a home.
Yoichi once accused him of obsessing over his appearance, paying tailors and luxuriating in expensive products, especially if they were scented.
He was reasonably vain.
He was not, as almost every instinct insisted he do, going to shove Machia off the bed for sticking his nose against the sweaty hollow of All for One’s throat and taking a deep, satisfied breath. But his hands spasmed.
“What are you doing?” he demanded. He tried to reassure himself that Machia was totally obedient and loyal, that adding the third meta ability (which had the particularly apt name of Dog) couldn’t be the one that broke this follower’s faith. But when Machia licked All for One’s flesh and groaned, All for One repeated his question at a higher pitch.
“My Lord,” said Machia, sounding dazed. “The doctor--he trained me to detect you by your scent, but all he had were your clothes, and your clothes had you, but it wasn’t really you--”
All for One grabbed a handful of Machia’s wild hair, preventing him from nuzzling the space between his pectoral muscles or even possibly lower than that. “Make sense, Machia.”
The pupils in his eyes were blown wide. Machia spoke in a rumble, a low register that vibrated All for One’s heart, “Your scent. There is nothing artificial affecting it now.” Though Machia did not have a face predisposed to joy, he smiled like he’d been given a priceless gift.
“... What do I smell like?”
Machia’s smile cracked into a wry grin. “Sex, my Lord.”
He scoffed to hide his relief. “So I do. But is there truly nothing unique to note? I’ve read plenty of literature that insists on people smelling like strawberries, or coffee, or even freshly-baked goods without the help of perfume.”
“Hmm.” Another deep inhale. “I cannot describe it well. I only know for certain that it belongs solely to you.”
All for One turned his eyes to the ceiling. Absently, he loosened his hold and carded his fingers through the shaggy mess that Machia called a hairstyle. Machia relaxed. He was a heavy weight, sprawled on top of All for One. “Like rot and ruin, I’ve been told.”
“Surface smells,” Machia replied, dismissive. “Whoever told you so, ignore them. They did not have my nose.”

Been thinking since it’s thanksgiving and I’ve had a ton of Sitting Silently At The Table time , so long semi coherent mechs adjacent rant incoming
When you don’t delve into the angst or inherent horror of the Mechanisms, they are simply free. They’re wild, chaotic, and do what they want for their own entertainment. They’re over powered, relatively immoral, all of the above, but they are also a Unit
Nobody leaves and doesn’t come back (we don’t talk about Out) (Out connects to this as well though), they stick together and may get a bit lost but they always meet up again. They are wild and they are free but they are together
And this is another reason why I just absolutely love them, because when I was younger, I was close with my brother and a handful of his friends. I led them into all sorts of chaotic endeavors and we did some wild shit (never anything bad, just a ton of running and screaming). We set up intricate wars and stories and played them out over and over again, always ending in some final BANG
And of course, we grew up, as children do
The boys realized that what we did was Not Normal, and to them, that was enough to keep them out of it. Playing pretend was for babies, playing at all was something just for little kids, or the queer theater kids that they grew up to think were “weird” (guess what I <proudly> became…)
And I realized that the group we had was not the group we started with, the group that I loved
Because we had all changed in our own ways, all become different people throughout the course of our elementary and middle school years
And so, we all went Out
We all had our own “deaths”, our deaths as free, wild, and sometimes brash creatives
I know I lost some of that in me, but I hope to never lose it all, and listening to the mechs brings back what I once had with a vengeance
I never want to stop being wild, I never want to stop being free, I never want to stop telling stories
