about me — people i’d like to know better.
LAST SONG. Online - TWRP Feat. Tom Cardy & Montaigne. I’ve been a fan of TWRP for a number of years now, as well as loving Tom Cardy’s chaotic energy from when I used to watch his Tiktoks (I’ve since deleted the app as it was a huge time-waster for me), so when I heard that they had collabed for a song I knew it’d be a banger. I’ve had it on repeat since it was released.
FAVORITE COLOR. I really love dark greens, burgundy and warm, autumnal yellows. My bestie also gifted me an Oracle deck for my birthday and I adore the similar colours/ wintry forest palette that it has. I think it’s been a big inspiration, even if the cards keep calling me out!
CURRENTLY READING. I’ve been slowly plodding my way through The Way of Kings  by Brandon Sanderson; I’m enjoying it but just have not had the spoons/ attention span to dedicate to reading. I tend to gravitate towards audiobooks nowadays, which I listen to when I’m driving.
The most recent books I’ve finished have been audiobooks during my commutes- I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jeanette McCurdy, and Cultish: The Language of Fanaticism by Amanda Montell.
CURRENTLY WATCHING. I’m watching more YouTube at the moment than serialized shows. One of my favourite YouTube channels, Lore Dump, has started a series on the Yakuza games and I’m really enjoying the chaotic energy that Chase brings to the host seat.
The idea behind the channel is that one of the three hosts does a full plot recap of a game franchise that the other two have not played or aren’t familiar with. They’re long form videos that you can treat like podcasts or put on in the background (I use them for my commute to/ from work), and they’ve covered series like Bioshock, Metal Gear, Red Dead Redemption and Batman. They also did a 12 video series on Kingdom Hearts that is just under 30 hours long, which I highly recommend if you’re into long haul deep dives!
I love it because the hosts clearly love the series they’re talking about dearly, and hearing the others gradually getting swept up in the excitement of the narratives is really entertaining.
SWEET, SAVORY, OR SPICY? I’m a sucker for savoury foods, but I do get the occasional craving for sweet foods. Sadly I can’t tolerate spicy foods like I used to :<
RELATIONSHIP STATUS. Happily married for the past eight (nearly nine) years! My partner and I married young, and it’s hard to believe it’s been so long already. I adore him so much and it’s been a joy to grow alongside him.
LAST THING YOU GOOGLED. “Do they make scuba suits for dogs”.  This was for our modern day TTRPG game, using the ‘Everyday Heroes’ module for D&D 5e.
The game is set in Australia in the 2070s after a catastrophic rise in sea levels, and because we’re playing in our home state, we’ve been able to use google maps and a lot of real-world resources in the game which has been super fun. We’ve even made an interactive map to keep track of important locations.
In our last session, we found information that points to us needing to go to locations under the new sealine and joked about taking our rangers’ sniffer dog along on the dive.
The answer we got is yes, there absolutely are diving suits for dogs.
CURRENT OBSESSION. I’ve been getting back into playing mobile games in my downtime! A few long-time favourites of mine are below- bear in mind that I’m on Android so these may not be available on iOS if you want to check them out.
The main one I’ve been playing is called Luna Story; it’s the first in a series of 3 apps that are nonogram-based games. Using a grid and a sequence of numbers, you fill in the grid to create pictures. I’ve had Luna Story installed on my phone for years and have been sporadically playing it, but I’ve recently dived into it again and am playing it before bed, on my lunch break and even when I wake up some mornings. The grid sizes range from beginner (5x5) to advanced (20 x 20) and uses super cute pixel art.
The other is called My Oasis, which is an idle clicker game where you progressively grow an island with animals. It’s got lots of positive little messages in it, like the abilities to buff your clicking being called virtues- like ‘compassion’, ‘selflessness’, etc. The animals I’ve chosen for my island are all favourites of the people I love- a fox for my little sister, a red panda for my husband, giraffe for my mum- even a racoon for myself. The animals can speak via bubbles with encouraging messages, and sing to you- you can sing back to them with a little keyboard at the bottom of the screen. Super cute, if a little clunky at times.

↳ ❝ [a love story - epilogue.] ¡!❞

Hank Voight x Kazuha Takahashi (asian ofc)
Summary: How are Hank and Kazuha doing 5 years later?
Warnings: None.
Wordcount: 0.7k
A/N: Thank you for everyone who read this story and all the sweet things you said about it 🥰
Masterlist // One Chicago Masterlist // a love story masterlist
It’s been five years since that positive pregnancy test and from that moment on, there were ups and downs, though it were mostly ups. Hank and I got our first daughter Jane and two years later we had another girl Lottie. I’m so gabby with a wonderful husband and lovely daughters.
Hank often jokes how they look identical to me, though Jane has a lot of his personality. A true leader, a true first daughter and I love her for it. Lottie, who is only three years old now, is a lot like me personality wise.
Today was Saturday and while we normally would spend it together as a family, Hank had to go. He’s still the sergeant of the Intelligence unit, so the girls are used to him having to go during fun family events. Sure, I still miss him, but he always comes back home.
As I’m setting the table, I hear the front door open and the girls quit with whatever they were doing and jump up. ‘Dad!’ they exclaim.
Not long afterwards, the three of them walk in, both girls balancing on his arms, before they smother him with kisses. ‘We missed you,’ Jane says.
‘Missed you,’ Lottie repeats.
When he places them on their feet again, Hank walks up to me as I’m finalizing the last few things on the table. ‘Hi honey,’ he says, wrapping his arms around my waist, pulling me closer to press a kiss on top of my head.
I can see he looks tired, almost like it was a rough day. He had a lot of those in the last year, but maybe that’s because he is still working a lot, while also being a family man and having to console me through the loss of my grandparents.
Sometimes I think I’m asking too much of him. I stopped working at the cafe, because I wanted to be there for the girls and Hank was all for it. Despite being a full-time mom, he still does a lot for me. For us.
As we’re eating and listening to very vague stories of his job, Jane finally says: ‘Dad, you’re quiet.’
‘I just had a rough day, princess.’
‘So, you’re not mad at us.’
He smiles, though it barely reaches his eyes. ‘No, of course not.’ He leans to the side to place a kiss on top of her head. ‘I love my girls, I’m glad to be home.’
♡.﹀﹀﹀﹀.♡
After we put the girls to bed, I follow him to our bathroom and when we’re both standing in front of the mirror, I say: ‘You have been awfully quiet. Are you sure nothing’s up?’
He looks to the side and lets out a sigh. ‘I’m thinking about quitting,’ he says.
‘What?’
‘I’ve got a good pension, I’ve got everything I need right here.’
I’m already ecstatic about the idea. With two girls here and his line of work, I always worry. I worried when it was just me, but I can explain it rationally to myself. With two little girls, telling them their dad got shot or even worse dies, I don’t know how they would handle it.
How to explain it to them.
‘I see,’ I say.
‘Honey,’ Hank whispers, placing his hand on my hip, pulling me closer to press a kiss on my temple. ‘Tell me what you think. And I want you to be honest.’
I chuckle. ‘I’d love it if you’d quit,’ I whisper. ‘And be here with us.’
I look at him through the mirror and our eyes meet. ‘I thought so,’ he says. ‘I’ll hand in my resignation next week.’
That sure was quick. I bet that even if I told him he should just continue to work, he’d still hand in his resignation. ‘What made you think about resignation?’
‘You three.’
‘Did something happen?’
‘I nearly got shot today,’ he says like it’s nothing major. ‘And one day, I know I’m not gonna be so lucky. I realized that I’ve served my time as a cop. I’m done protecting Chicago. I need to be here with you. With Jane, with Lottie.’
I wrap my arms around his shoulders and pull him close to my body. ‘Really?’
‘Yeah, really.’ Our embrace turns tighter and when I pull back to give him a kiss, he whispers: ‘I love you, Zuha.’
‘Oh my sweet, Hank,’ I say, ‘I love you too.’

REVIEWS OF THE WEEK!
Books I’ve read so far in 2022!
Friend me on Goodreads here to follow my more up to date reading journey for the year!
___
235. Answers in the Pages by David Levithan--⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
I was intrigued by this book because of that first page--especially since we live in a society where so many books are being challenged by parents. The fact that a parent took a paragraph so incredibly out of context and made it the martyr for her fight against what is "safe for children to read" is the perfect example of someone put their opinions on something that could be innocent in nature. I also liked how Levithan wrote a warning at the beginning of the book because he knew that that text would be twisted into the cookie cutter version of "problematic" that the MC's mother wanted it to be. I will say, however, that the constantly shifting POVs were a little bit of an overkill. I understand why they existed, but at times it felt like it was a little too much and took me a bit out of the story. In the end, I understand why it was necessary. I just found it to kind of ruin the flow of the story a little (and I know these chapters also serve as a way of making the already thin book a little bit thicker.) I do recommend this book to kids who are thinking of coming out to parents, who are struggling with their own identities, or have simply witnessed an adult trying to censor a book they are reading and/or have read. I think it's important to have these conversations because it can open the world to a bunch of "why's" that some kinds might truly need.
___
236. I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy--⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Listen, before you read this book, I would heavily suggest looking at trigger warnings if you have specific triggers you try to avoid. This book was a ROUGH read. It was fantastic, but it was rough. Jennette McCurdy is someone that I knew of in passing because the tv shows she was in weren't really on my radar since I was already older when they were coming out. But after reading this book, I'm left wondering if I would have looked at her during her busiest parts of her acting career and wondered what her life was like. One of the saddest things about this book, other than the obvious, is how this story is not 100% unique to her experience--there are so many kids who live with abusive parents who profit off their acting abilities. So many adults in Hollywood were raised with parents like hers and knowing this, some of them breaking down makes a lot more sense. What happens when your complicated relationship with your mother leaves you numb to the abuse, but also fearful of not making her happy? The candid way that McCurdy writes makes this question jump off the pages as she continuously tells us each horrible thing her mother did to her, but also every moment where she just wanted to please her. I was listening to the audiobook and there is a moment where McCurdy (who is the voice of her audiobook) starts to fight back tears. It was such a jarring experience because she read the majority of her book in a kind of monotone way--like a person who is distancing herself from the experiences she wishes to not associate with anymore, or experiences that one is trying to heal from. With all of that being said, trust me when I say that the title is extremely justified. I can't even imagine the mixture of grief and relief she felt after her mother passed away. I highly recommend this one, but again, please handle with care. This is EXTREMELY triggering.
___
237. The Haunted Bridge by Carolyn Keene & Mildred Benson (Ghostwriter)--⭐️⭐️⭐️
I haven't read a Nancy Drew book in a very long time, but the books I own in the series have been giving me the stink eye for a while, so I finally picked one up. (Thank you to those who helped pick this one over on my Instagram). This was a fun mystery! I do love how Nancy never lets the spooky fully scare her off a mystery--especially when one or both of her best friends try to remind her that the situation is, in fact, terrifying. There were some points that were a little bit unbelievable and convoluted, but it was a fun ride nonetheless. Also, props to Nancy for having such a great moral compass. I can see why she would be such a great role model for so many young readers!
___
238. Love On the Brain by Ali Hazelwood--⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Unpopular opinion (maybe?), but I enjoyed this a hell of a lot more than THE LOVE HYPOTHESIS. It was so much fun and full of so many cute, funny, and sexy moments. Also, hello, the feminism? Bad ass. The STEM? Awesome. I loved the relationship between the MC and her twin sister. I loved how her voice would change when faced with a cat. I loved the love interest and his awkward way of getting all flustered around her. I also low-key loved the misunderstanding between them when they see each other again. They just worked so well together (even though she was one of those women who don't know how beautiful they truly are. The end surprised me, but I should have figured it out but I was too distracted by the blossoming love between the characters. This is a standalone, by the way, so I highly encourage you to enjoy this book even if you haven't read The Love Hypothesis or any of the STEM novellas!
___
239. The Pool Boy by Nikki Sloane--⭐️⭐️
I won't lie--the age gap got me when I first came across this book. I was intrigued by it and thought it would be the perfect summer read. But I took it with me to Cuba for my two week vacation and...didn't even finish it then (I finished it a month later and by listening to an audiobook.) This book, while it had some very spicy moments, was...boring. I was bored at times and I think that's why I never found myself fully invested? The storyline was kind of meh and there were instances where other storylines could have been introduced but in the end, those moments felt kind of pointless? This was just meh and I'm kind of disappointed because I expected more. I do want to read the first book in this series some day, but now I'm a LITTLE wary.
___
240. Hello Forever by Sarina Bowen--⭐️⭐️⭐️
While I enjoyed book one more (it’s one of my favourite romances), this was still enjoyable in that “I need to pass the time with some spice.” I think, much like the first book, this dealt with some pretty intense homophobia and I’ll say that you should check for trigger warnings before you read this. This was a quick read and it being a bit quicker than the last book made it so that the build up of the relationship was a little less powerful than the first book. I would have liked it to be a little longer so it didn’t feel as rushed. I’d definitely recommend this duology—especially book one!

Have you read any of these? Would you recommend them?

Happy reading!

Favorite 2022 Reads
Last year, I did one of these wrap-ups and enjoyed it, so I figured I’d do another! These books were ones I read for the first time this year (except the bonus, which I re-read this year and really resonated with me) that I enjoyed more than the rest. There’s some romance, some horror, some fantasy...and hey, let me know if you’ve read and enjoyed these, or if you have recommendations you think I’d like in 2023. These aren’t in order of enjoyment because I can’t be bothered to rank that intensely, but are arranged alphabetically by author’s last name.
Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo
Friends. Buddies. Pals. This book right here. I really enjoyed LB’s YA fantasy books, so I figured I’d finally give this one a shot. And boy am I glad I did. I’ve realized that while I do read a ton of romance novels, the books that usually get me are urban fantasy. This one has horror, dark academia, and commentary on academic elitism and social privilege. Trigger warnings abound, but it’s worthwhile if it won’t mess you up too badly. I’ve already put in my preorder for the sequel, Hell Bent, which will be released in January.
Legendborn by Tracy Deonn
An end-of-the-year surprise! During finals, I don’t let myself read any new books, but this one came in from the library and I didn’t want to risk not reading it. It was a trap...I was going to read it just during my commute, but I could not be stopped. This is a YA urban fantasy novel, but it’s impeccably researched and well-written. Arthuriana meets critiques of systemic racism and traumatic grief and hooooo, it’s good. I’m eagerly awaiting the second book in the series, which was released not long ago.
Book Lovers by Emily Henry
Listen. Have you ever had the experience of reading a romance novel and then realizing you relate more to the “bad” woman that the male protag dumps so he can get with the sweet, gentle one who will just be the best and most supportive wifey ever? Or that you’ve been in that boat yourself? This book provides justice for all the ambitious women with rough edges that want to see themselves in a romance novel, without demanding that she sacrifice her ambitions and have 55 children (while still being sympathetic to other life paths). Bonus for publishing industry nonsense and complex sibling relationships.
The Deal by Elle Kennedy
I thought this would be just a fun palate cleanser of a friends-to-lovers college story. And it is that, but it also ended up being so much more. Let’s talk the friends-to-lovers angle--I rarely read a book where I so thoroughly believe in the friendship between the characters before I see a hint of romance. It was so well done. Then, as for the other, it had one of the most realistic and compassionate treatments of how sexual assault can affect people even years later. It wasn’t solved and cured and tied up with a neat little bow, but it was hopeful nonetheless.
I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy
Ah, the complexities of grief and recovering from conservative subcultures. Loving your parents but knowing they aren’t doing right by you. Confronting exploitation and exploiring recovery. This memoir is a gut-punch, and it’s incredibly well-written. I can’t wait to see what Jennette does next, even if that’s dropping out of the public eye.
Bonus Re-Read Fave: Fair Game by Patricia Briggs
I believe I read this for the first time last year, but this year was when it started hitting hard for me. In addition to being a fun urban fantasy novel (it’s book 3 in a series, so perhaps not the easiest to just open and dive into), but ooh boy does it hit. You know how The Deal is compassionate about dealing with sexual assault? Well, this book may take on a fae angle and deal with prejudice, but it’s about the catharsis of someone who loves a victim being willing to burn the world down for them, and I fucking love it. *chef’s kiss*

Slush: #2.75 So, I’ve been busy with school work and have not been able to keep up with this, but here are four things I have read in the interim. None of them fall into the Slush Pile, as they were done for school or I do not own physical copies.
I am also not going to give actual reviews for them, at least not right now.
Cabaret (Joe Masteroff / Fred Ebb, 1966) - The reason I will not give a proper review for this is because I skimmed it for a class, then watched a production of it put on by my University. It was good, but I am not going to critique students who are still learning (though, I actually really did enjoy this production). I may eventually reread Cabaret, but it would not fall into the Slush Pile.
Northanger Abby (Jane Austen, 1817)- I listened to this on audio book at 2x speed to get through it. It did make me realize how much I do not like reading prose with next to no dialogue breaks, but it was fine overall. I like Austen’s writing, but prose just drags so much for me. Thank the gods for audio books. I do have more of Austen’s books in the Slush Pile (namely Pride and Prejudice and Emma)
The Other Room (Ariadne Blayde, 2010)- Another play for class. I did actually read this one, but I am too far detached from it at this point that I would have to reread it to review it. It was good, if not a bit awkward (the other name for this play is The Vibrator Play).
I’m Glad My Mom Died (Jennette McCurdy, 2022)- This is an autobiography about the abuse McCurdy faced at the hands of her mother. I am not reviewing it. There is no favourite part. There is no least favourite part. Go read/listen to it. Though keep in mind, this is a dark book with some lighter parts.
A lot of these focus on serious topics, so if you don’t want to read these, then don’t.
The important thing is to have fun in your readings.

It’s A Celebrate: Let’s Dance!
February brings several things to celebrate, but I want acknowledge the Black Kings and Queens, Happy Black History Month to you. I honor you. I appreciate you. I celebrate you. Continue making great strides in your communities and legacies. We’ve come a ways, yet, the road is still ahead.
I’m reminded of a time when I attended Indiana State University, a PWI, somewhere in the valley… I sorta ended up there because my mom would not allow me to go to Tennessee State University, my dream school. It was “too far”, she said. Anywho, the Black population was so small at ISU, but every social group made sure black students could celebrate Black History Month in an elaborate way. I was a member of the choir, Ebony Majestic. It seemed like there was always an event for us to sing at during BHM. I was also a member of NAACP, Black Student Union, and S.I.S.T.E.R.S T.O.O. (a black sisterhood program). I feel as though I’m leaving a group out… Oh, Pharmacy club! 🥹 Listen, homegirl was BUSY.
I was glad to be a part in the groups that didn’t let me forget to celebrate my culture. It reminded me to always take pride in being a Black woman . The resilience I have is to be celebrated. My accomplishments and even my failures are reasons to celebrate. To understand the importance of this month is to know YOUR WORTH. I’m certain the Ancestors are proud.
February is also HEART MONTH! Many of you know how much this means to me. My mother has heart disease and has had her Mitral valve replaced. If you stood close to my mom, one would assume she had on a loud wrist watch, but it’s the device that has a similar sound. We learn a lot through the health of others. We learned so much about heart disease through my mothers health screenings and regular doctors visits.
It’s been my mission to ensure I educate those of the things I’ve learned along the way. Our heart is connected to so many other functions throughout our bodies, this also includes our teeth! Yes, our oral health is connected to our heart health. It is imperative that we’re brushing, flossing, and taking care of our teeth to the best of our ability. Bad dental hygiene can cause inflammation in your heart valve—leading to strokes and/or heart attacks. Brush your teeth for at least 3 minutes. The average American only brushes for 45 seconds. We must change this!
I wanted to start this month with a dance. Not only is it a personal form of self care, it is also great cardio. While Dallas is experiencing the strangest weather, I’ve been indoors reviewing emails, reading books, sorting last weeks laundry, and trying to maintain my workouts. What better way to get the heart pumping than by DANCING!? Short story: One of my birthday gifts to myself was this $500+ Apple Watch. I previously owned a FitBit, but after 2 years, it died. This also effected the logging of my workouts, so I sorta quit altogether. I lost my motivation when I no longer had my Fitbit. I don’t stay down for long, tho, because I actually enjoy the gym. I’m obsessed with my watch and being able to monitor my movements and choose from various exercises (dance included), I haven’t missed a beat!
Ladies:
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in women. There are ways you can prevent this, one being dancing. I urge you all to get up and dance for at least 30 minutes a day this month. I will come back with heart disease awareness info throughout the week, so be sure to tune in! Let’s reduce our risk of heart disease by moving. 🏃🏾‍♀️ 🚴 🏋🏾‍♀️ 💃🏾
If you’ve ever been CPR certified, you know the relevance of this song:

you are my home
this started out as a little concept, and then i thought it might be fun to write a whole fic out of it!
(side note: I know we have no idea if sarah and mitch are having a boy or girl, so i just went with girl ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
warnings: angst, relationship struggles, arguments
word count: 11.5k (the longest thing i've ever written :) )
"Just an eighth of a cup?"
"That's what it says," Harry shrugged, looking at the recipe on his phone. "Look, one eighth cup of milk. Right here-" He tilted the screen toward you.
"I believe you, it's just weird, it doesn't seem like a lot," you mused, but followed his instructions anyways. You were making chicken parmesan, and the two of you had a rather long history of butchered recipes. It was usually because you were too wrapped up in each other to read the recipe properly. Or because Harry would start kissing you while the food was cooking, murmuring against your lips that "we have plenty of time". Unfortunately, he usually got carried away, leaving you with a flushed face and burnt food.
Not this time, though. You were determined to make this one right. You stirred the milk into the mixture, watching carefully and turning the heat down when it began to bubble.
"Now... we just have to wait while it simmers for a few minutes," you said, setting the spatula down in the spoon rest. "So far, so good."
"I can think of something for us to do for a few minutes," Harry grinned, wrapping his arms around your waist. He leaned down, beginning to kiss your neck, but you quickly squirmed away.
"Nope, not this time," you grabbed the spatula again, brandishing it like a weapon. "Stay back. We're not taking any chances with this one. I'm tired of throwing out charred food and ordering pizza."
"Pizza is good, though," he argued, stepping closer again as you moved farther away.
"Not as good as our homemade chicken parmesan will be if you can just be patient for three minutes."
"Three minutes?" He practically whined.
You rolled your eyes. "You will be fine for three minutes. Wait until the food is done."
He huffed, leaning back against the counter with his arms crossed. "Can't believe you're depriving me of your love like this."
"Yes, you're so terribly deprived," you said sarcastically. "it's not like I've been by your side constantly for the past 72 hours."
"Well, time flies when you're with the love of your life."
You smiled, stepping forward to give him a quick peck on the cheek. Just one. He grabbed at your forearms, trying to keep you close, but you jumped back.
"No," you said sternly. "The food is almost done and I'm not burning this one too."
"Fine," he groaned. "But speaking of 72 hours... I was wondering about something."
You hummed questioningly, stirring the sauce.
"I was just kind of thinking... I mean, we're together all the time. When we're in the States we're together at your place, and when we're in London we're together at mine. So do you think... maybe we should just... officially move in together?"
You froze, suddenly feeling your heart thudding. It's not like you hadn't thought about it before. You had; a lot, actually. Of course you wanted to live with him. You hated being apart from him, and you knew he felt the same about you.
But still, moving to a whole different continent is a pretty big step. You didn't know how that would work for your job, and you weren't exactly excited to be so far away from all your friends and family.
"You don't have to answer right now," He was quick to interject, seemingly noticing how worried you looked. "Not at all. I just... I think it would be nice to have you with me. I just hate all the back and forth, and I'd kind of like to have a place we can call home together."
A small smile spread over your face as you thought about how nice it really would be. You thought of waking up on a rainy morning, cuddled into his side as you listened to the raindrops patter on the window. You thought of baking cookies in the kitchen with him. Taking bubble baths together. Going on walks in the park every evening. All of that would be so much better if it didn't have an end date lurking around the corner. If you knew you wouldn't have to fly back home in a few days or weeks or months.
"It would be really nice," you agreed. "I just... what about my work and stuff?"
"We can figure that out," he said. "We can do it however you want. I'm sure they could set it up so you can work remotely, or you could get a different job in London, or... you don't actually have to work if you don't want to."
"What, just be your little housewife?" you teased, looking over your shoulder at him.
"No," he grinned. "Well, maybe-"
You turned and snapped a hand towel at him before he could finish that sentence. He jumped away, grinning boyishly and holding his hands up in surrender.
"That's not how I meant it, and you know it. But seriously, if you don't want to work you don't have to."
"I would like to be there with you, and know I don't have to leave anytime soon," you said thoughtfully.
"Like I said, you don't have to decide right now. Why don't you just think about it? As much as I want you to, it is a big decision and I don't want you to rush into anything you're not okay with."
Before you could speak again, the timer on your phone went off.
"That's the sauce," you said, turning around and turning the gas off. "See? It's not so hard to keep your hands off of me for long enough to cook a meal, is it?"
He scoffed. "Speak for yourself. I nearly died. Of lonliness."
-----
In the next few days, you thought about Harry's offer a lot. You couldn't deny that you really liked the idea. What could be better than living with the love of your life? Never having to leave to pick up more clothes, never forgetting something important at home, always being in the same country as him. There were just a few things you worried about. Your job, for one. Yes, Harry had offered for you to quit working, but you weren’t sure if that was the best idea. You liked your job, and being able to earn your own money.
Harry was probably right; it probably could be done remotely. But you would kind of miss seeing your coworkers, at least the few you had been close with.
Then there was the matter of your friends. You would really miss having girls' nights, and gossiping about their boyfriends, and getting mani-pedis every month. Sure, you knew you would be back to visit. But you also knew it would be different.
Then, the thing you were most worried about: your family. You had always been close with them, especially your mom. You went to see her and your dad every week, and you called them almost every day. You weren't sure how well you would cope with being so far away from them.
But at the same time, you were incredibly excited by the idea of moving to London. You had been there before, of course, but never for longer than a few weeks. You wanted to get the full experience. You wanted Harry to show you around, take you to his favorite places. You wanted to go to the town he grew up in, see the bakery he never shut up about. You wanted to be a part of his life, in every way.
So, a week after he first asked you, you made up your mind. You were laying on the couch with him, tracing over his tattoos with your fingers while some cooking show played. He was pretty involved, every so often groaning or shaking his head or tsking at the contestants' "complete lack of skills." You weren't paying any attention, though. You were trying to decide how to bring up the conversation from earlier.
Eventually, you decided to just go for it.
"Harry?" you asked, not looking up from your fingers on his arms.
"Hm?" He replied, peeling his eyes away from the screen to look at you.
"I was thinking... about what you said the other day."
"Yeah?" He sat up more, muting the TV. "What about it?"
"I just think- I mean, there's still some stuff to figure out, but I would really like to move into your place in London."
"Really?" His face lit up.
You nodded. "I'm a little worried about my work, and leaving my family and friends, but... I want to be with you. I hate when one of us has to leave. I just want to go to sleep next to you, and wake up next to you, and not have an end date hanging over my head every time we're together."
"I like the sound of that," he smiled, pressing a kiss to the back of your hand. "And like I said, we'll figure out your work. And we'll come back to visit whenever you want to. It's only like... a nine hour flight."
"Right, basically nothing," you laughed, leaning your head against his shoulder.
"Right," he smiled. "But really. Any time you need to see your people, we'll come see them."
"We?"
He nodded, seeming confused by your questioning tone.
"You wouldn't have to do that," you shook your head. "I don't want to make you-"
"I want to." He cut you off. "I'm not going to just let you fly for 18 hours all alone. Plus, I'd miss you too much while you were gone."
"That's sweet," you said, a light flush heating up your face. "Also, my family might be disappointed if I came back and you weren't with me. I think they like you more than me at this point."
"That was the plan all along," he grinned.
You hit his arm playfully, but didn't move your head. "So what would that look like?"
"Well, really we could do whatever you want to. We could just move all your stuff into my place, or if you wanted, we could maybe find somewhere new? Somewhere that's just ours."
"Harry, we are not buying a whole new house when you basically have a mansion. That would be stupid."
"I'm actually really glad you feel that way. That mansion was bloody expensive."
-----
"How much longer until your lease is up?" Harry's impatient voice came through the phone.
"One less day than when I told you yesterday," you rolled your eyes. He was worse than a kid waiting for Christmas. He asked nearly every day if he could just pay off the lease for you and have you move right then. Your answer was always no; you had decided to finish it out on your own. Kind of like closing one chapter of your life before you start another.
There were just two weeks left now, and the evidence was all around the place. You and Harry had started to box up your smaller items, and the space already felt much less like home. You had taken pictures off the walls; cleared trinkets off the bookshelves. In the next few days, you were going to go through your clothes and decide what would come with you and what would be donated.
Harry had been excited to help with the whole process, but he had to go back to London a week earlier than he planned. Of course, you weren't happy about this, but you kind of liked having some time alone to say goodbye to the place you had called home for the past five years.
So you did just that. You wandered around, smiling at the patched spot in the wall from when Harry had knocked over a lamp stumbling around in the dark. You ran your fingers over the slight scorch mark on the table from when you made dinner, but forgot to set down a potholder. Your toe scuffled over the nail polish stain on the rug, from when Harry had tried to paint your nails.
All these little things made your little apartment feel like your home. You would miss them, but you had realized something as you thought back to all the memories. Most of them had been with Harry. Yes, you were leaving some memories behind, but you weren't leaving HIM behind. You would make new memories together, wherever you lived. As long as it was together.
"It's just two weeks, baby, and then we'll be together."
"Two weeks is so long," he sighed.
"It'll go by fast," you promised. "It is for me. I'm keeping busy over here."
"Me too," he took on an offended tone. "Very busy. I'm doing lots of things."
"What have you been up to?" You asked, settling back onto the couch. It was weird to see how empty your space was, but it was nice to be able to put your feet on the coffee table without knocking over the various decorations that usually adorned it.
"Some work stuff, but mostly clearing out space for you. You have a lot of stuff."
"I do not," you scoffed. "I probably have less hair products than you do."
"Hey," he cried. "Rude. My hair is luxurious. It takes a lot of upkeep."
You smiled, shaking your head.
“I moved a lot of stuff into the guest closet, so you can have half of the one in our room."
"Really?" You asked, a little surprised. You knew how well organized he kept his closet, so it was a little shocking that he was willing to just move everything.
"Of course. You'll be living here too, you need someplace to keep your clothes."
"I don't think I'll be able to fill half of your closet, though," you laughed.
"Guess we'll have to go shopping, then!" He chirped.
"I guess," you agreed with a smile.
You heard muffled voices in the background before Harry spoke again.
"I'm sorry, love, but I have to go." he sounded frustrated. "I'll call you later, okay?"
"Okay. Love you!"
"Love you too."
-----
"Today's the day!" Harry practically yelled through the phone.
"I know!" You said, trying to match his enthusiasm. You were slightly less excited. After all, you still had a nine hour flight ahead of you. But you knew that by this time tomorrow, you would officially be living with Harry, and that made it worth it.
"Do you have everything packed?" He asked.
"Pretty much. I'm just throwing the last of my stuff into my bag."
"Did you make a shopping list for when you get here?"
"I was gonna do that on the plane. It'll be something for me to do," you said, turning on the speakerphone so you could move around more freely.
"Yeah, good plan," he agreed. "I've said this a few times already, but I'm so excited for you to be here with me."
"Have you? Have you really said it a few times? I wasn't aware," you laughed.
"Be nice to me, I'm just happy," he said, and you could practically hear the smile in his voice.
"I know, I'm sorry," you shook your head with a smile. "I'm excited too. But I have to go now, I have to finish packing."
"Ok," he replied sadly. "See you soon!"
-----
You spotted him right after you got off the plane. He was standing near the gate, searching the crowd expectantly. Once he locked eyes with you, his face lit up in a huge smile. He made his way through the crowd, meeting you with open arms. He acted like he hadn't seen you in weeks, even though it had only been four days.
He buried his face in your neck, holding you tightly against him.
"I missed you," he murmured.
"I missed you too," you breathed deeply, inhaling his familiar scent. "But I'm here now. And now we can go home."
"Yeah," he grinned. "Home."
-----
"Harry, the movers can carry some of it, that's their job," you reminded him as he grabbed one of the boxes.
"Yeah, but it'll go faster if I carry some stuff," he argued, motioning to the door with his head. "Open that for me?"
You did as he asked, shaking your head as he brought the box of books inside. He insisted on helping, even though he had hired a team of movers to do this for you.
"Where do you wanna put these?" He asked, looking around the living room. "They can go on the shelf in here, or the one in our room."
"I'm not sure, I think I want some in here and some in the room. Why don't we go through them later?"
"Sounds good," he nodded, setting the box down in front of the bookshelf. "Another box!"
You shook your head again, going into the kitchen as he went back outside. You started going through the cupboards, checking to make sure you didn’t have any duplicates on your shopping list. He already had quite a few of the items you needed, so you could remove several things.
Once the last few boxes had been brought in, and Harry had thanked the movers profusely, he collapsed on the couch.
"I told you you shouldn't have done so much, now you're all tired out," you joked, going to sit next to him.
He nodded. "You were right. I need a nap after all that." He got up, pushing you to lay down and then crawling on top of you. He laid his head on your stomach, sighing contentedly when you ran your fingers through his hair.
"Oh wait," he lifted his head, already sounding half asleep. "We didn't even get groceries yet. We have to-" He began to get up, but you stopped him with a gentle hand on his face.
You shook your head, running your thumb over his cheekbone lightly. "We can do that later, baby. Just go to sleep for a while."
"Yeah," he nodded slightly. "I'm just gonna go to sleep for a while."
"Okay," you smiled. "Sweet dreams."
-----
When Harry woke up, he was alone on the couch. He frowned at the lack of warmth, grabbing the blanket from the back of the couch and pulling it around himself. He wasn't sure how you had managed to get out from under him without waking him, but he wasn't happy about it.
He planned to go back to sleep, but sighed when his phone buzzed. He reached for it, but then paused for a minute. He decided whatever it was could wait. He retracted his arm, pulling the blanket tighter around himself and snuggling into the back of the couch.
Just as he was about to drift off, his phone began buzzing again. This time, it didn't stop. He groaned, but grabbed it this time. He squinted at the bright light, trying to make out who was trying so hard to contact him.
It was Jeff. There were two missed calls and a text. He swiped on the text, his frown deepening as he read the message.
Jeff: I'm sure you're going to see this soon enough, but the moving van was spotted outside your house. There's already a few articles out, and I'm sure there'll be more. Just wanted to let you know so you don't have to hear it from some trashy website, and maybe you should let Y/N know to stay away from socials for a while. Sorry about this.
Harry groaned, throwing his arm over his face. He had known this was likely to happen, but at the same time he had hoped it wouldn't. He was so happy right now, and he didn't need that to be tainted by rude articles and crazy fans and speculations about his relationships. He just wanted to sit back and relax with his love for a few days, but apparently that was too much for him to ask.
Normally, he wouldn't even look at the articles. He knew they would only be upsetting. This time, though, he felt like he should. He wasn't sure how you would react to this, and it might be easier if he knew what you would be seeing all over the internet for the next week.
So, he opened google and searched "harry styles". Instantly, his screen filled with pictures of the moving van outside his house. There were even a few pictures of him carrying boxes, and one of your back as you walked inside. He huffed angrily. This was supposed to be a happy day, and now he was in a bad mood. His privacy had been violated yet again, and it was hard for him to stay positive after that.
Then he began scrolling through the article titles. He rolled his eyes at the baited language that was clearly meant to create negative responses.
"HARRY STYLES seen MOVING BOXES? Is he going out... or is someone coming in?"
"Harry Styles spotted with NEWEST GIRLFRIEND"
"ANOTHER GIRL? HARRY SHARES HIS HOUSE... YET AGAIN!"
"Just a friend? Or Harry's latest lover?"
"Guess which FORMER ONE DIRECTION STAR is shacking up with his SECRET GIRLFRIEND!"
Against his better judgement, he clicked on one of the articles. His heart sunk further with every sentence he read.
"It's no secret that Harry Styles has been with a lot of women (read about each of his past relationships here). But is there someone new for the Watermelon Sugar singer?
A moving van was spotted outside of Harry's house today, and the star was seen moving boxes into his 8.7 million dollar mansion.
As if that’s not enough, there was a woman seen heading into the house with Harry. Could this mean a new romance for the Grammy winning artist? Well, don’t be too sure. There are many possible explanations for these new living arrangements. Maybe she’s a friend going through a hard time, or even just a family member who needs a couch to crash on.
Or maybe she’s Harry’s newest conquest. Yet another notch in the bed stand! Way to go, Styles!
However, we can’t help but notice: she doesn’t seem like Harry’s type. Come on girl, leggings and a hoodie? And that hair? Apparently, she’s not trying too hard to impress him.
We don’t know all the details yet, but stay tuned! We’ve reached out to Harry’s management for more information. Check back for more updates, and subscribe to our email list so you don’t miss anything!”
Harry clicked off his phone with a sigh. He stood up from the couch, keeping the blanket wrapped around him as he made his way into the kitchen.
No matter how upset he was, he was sure the sight in front of him would always bring a smile to his face. You were wearing one of his t-shirts, dancing slightly to your music as you stirred the pot in front of you. Harry leaned against the door frame, giving himself a few minutes to take this in. He couldn’t believe he would get to experience this every day from now on.
With a fond smile still on his face, he walked over to you. He wrapped his arms around your waist, adjusting the blanket so it draped over your shoulders as well.
“Hi,” you smiled, leaning back against him. “Did you have a good nap?”
“Would have been better if you didn’t get up,” he pouted, resting his chin on your shoulder to look into the pot.
“Oh please, you were totally dead to the world. I’ve been in here for half an hour now, and you only just woke up.”
“Still,” he said, turning his head to kiss your cheek. “What are you making?”
“Mac ‘n’ cheese,” you explained. “I wasn’t in the mood to do any real cooking.”
“Sounds delicious,” he smiled. “S’it almost done?”
“Should be like five more minutes,” you glanced over at the timer on your phone. “Want to get the plates?”
“No, just want to hold you,” he said, pressing his face further into your neck. “I’m not awake yet.”
“Fine,” you said, setting the spoon down. “Then you gotta walk with me, because I need to set the table.”
“I can do that,” he said, his voice muffled.
You smiled, moving around the room to get everything you needed while Harry clung to you like a koala. The smell of food seemed to perk him up, because within a few minutes he was lifting his head and leaning less of his weight on you.
“Smells really good, love,” he said, finally pulling himself away from you.
“I know, I’m an amazing chef,” you grinned, lifting the pot off the stove and bringing it to the table. This time, you remembered to set down a potholer. You didn’t really want to ruin this table that probably cost more than your entire apartment.
“You are,” he agreed, pulling out your chair before sitting down next to you. He scooted his chair closer, moving the blanket again so you were both under it.
His mood seemed to change suddenly as he was piling the food onto your plates.
“I have to tell you something,” he said, looking more upset than you had seen in a while.
“What?” You asked, turning slightly to face him.
“I don’t really… there’s no nice way to say it,” he said, avoiding your eyes. “Someone took pictures of the moving van and us bringing stuff in, and there’s some pretty nasty articles.”
“Oh,” you said quietly. You weren’t quite sure how to respond to that. It’s not like you didn’t expect this, but you had hoped to have a few peaceful days with Harry before being attacked by the media. “Is it- how bad is it?”
“It’s... not good,” he sighed. “I wouldn’t recommend looking at it. That stuff is terrible, always has been. They always seem to know exactly how to tear people down; make you feel bad about yourself. You might wanna stay off social media, just for a few days until some of the crazies calm down.”
You nodded. “I’m sorry.”
“What?” he looked up quickly. “Why are you sorry? I’m the one that should be sorry, they’re writing terrible stuff about you, and it’s my fault.”
“It’s not your fault,” you were quick to shut him down. “And I’m sure it bothers you too. I know you don’t like when they get personal information.”
“No, I really don’t,” he agreed. “But I wish they left you out of it.”
“Well, it doesn’t matter now,” you said, leaning your head on his arm. “Because now I’m here, and we’re together, and I don’t have to leave anytime soon.”
-----
After dinner, Harry decided you should get some more of your things put away. He brought your bag to the bathroom, dumping everything out onto the vanity.
“Why do you have so many bottles?” He asked, picking up the closest one.
“Because,” you said, grabbing it out of his hands. “They all do different things. This one is moisturizer, this one makes sure my skin doesn’t get too oily-”
“So why don’t you just not use either of them? Seems like they cancel each other out anyways.”
You shot him a glare. “That’s not how it works. Anyways, this one's for dark spots. These glass ones are mineral oils. This blue one is for wrinkles- you know, gotta get ahead of those- and this one is rose water. It doesn’t really do anything, it basically just smells good. Then that’s my hair stuff- and I was right by the way, you do have way more than I do. And this is a face mask, and that one close to the sink is a hair mask, and this little tub is an exfoliator, and this cloth is a makeup remover, but it’s better for the environment than individual wipes. And then my makeup is here- so liquid foundation, setting powder, blush, concealer, mascara, eye shadow, eyeliner, and the brushes. I actually don’t have that much stuff,” you shrugged, looking at the bottles splayed everywhere.
“Right… not that much stuff,” he said, his eyes wide. “It’s a good thing I asked Gemma how she organizes all her stuff, because she told me to get one of these things.” He opened the cupboard under the sink, pulling out a spinning makeup organizer. “Hopefully all of your million bottles fit on this.”
“You got this for me?” you asked, smiling. “That’s so nice of you.”
“Well, I don’t think your stuff would have fit in the drawers,” he said, running a hand through his hair.
“Oh, shush,” you rolled your eyes. “Help me get all this organized, will you?”
-----
The next week was pretty smooth, minus that little hiccup with the press. You did as Harry suggested, and stayed off Twitter and Instagram. You didn’t think it would be too bad, but you had gotten a few texts from concerned family and friends that made you wonder how bad it really was.
Either way, you didn’t really want to look. You and Harry were essentially honeymooning, and you weren’t about to let a few nasty articles ruin it.
“We haven’t gone for groceries yet,” Harry reminded you, coming up behind you as you did your morning skincare routine.
“Yeah, I kind of forgot about that,” you said, closing the bottle of moisturizer. “We can go whenever, just let me get dressed.”
He nodded. “What all do we need?”
“I don’t think there’s too much, but we need some fruit. Most of yours is bad at this point.”
“Yeah, that happens.” He laughed. “I usually buy a whole bunch and then end up having to leave, so then I come home to a fridge full of rotten fruit.”
“Lovely,” you joked. “I also need some chips, all your snacks are healthy.”
“I have no idea what chips are, but we can buy some crisps, if that’s what you meant,” he smiled at you in the mirror.
“Shut up,” you rolled your eyes, hitting his arm playfully. “I’m not going to call them crisps just because I live here now. I’m still American.”
“Fine, but when we have kids, they will not be using your American words. I’m not letting you corrupt my children like that.”
“You’re so annoying.”
“Well then, it’s too bad you moved in with me, isn’t it?”
-----
“Ooh, we need these!” Harry said, grabbing a bag of brownie bites.
“Why do we need those?”
“Because they’re delicious,” he said, looking at you like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
“If you say so,” you shrugged, pushing the cart forward after he threw the bag in. “Where is the pasta?”
“Aisle 17,” he answered immediately.
“Is it really?” You asked, a little surprised he had the aisle numbers memorized.
“I have no idea,” he laughed. “It’s just the first number that popped into my head. I think it’s that way? Or maybe over here…” he trailed off, like he was trying to remember where to go. “I actually have no idea.”
“Wow, you're so helpful.”
“I know,” he grinned. “I don’t know, just start wandering around and we’ll find it eventually.”
“What a plan,” you shook your head, but followed him anyway. It’s not like you were in any rush, and you were both having a good time.
“Oh look!” You said, turning into an aisle. “I found the chips.”
“The what?” Harry called from the next row over. “I thought you said something, but I must have heard you wrong.”
“No, I just said I found the chips,” you repeated. “You know, little cooked potato slices?”
“I’m sorry love, I have no idea what you’re talking about,” He said, joining you in the aisle. “Oh, silly me. You meant crisps!”
“Nope,” you grabbed a bag of Doritos. “I meant exactly what I said.” You placed the bag in the cart, turning back to Harry. You leaned up on your tiptoes, moving closer to his face. “Chips,” you whispered, before pressing a quick kiss to his cheek and then turning around again.
“You can’t seduce me into calling them the wrong name,” he scoffed.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” you shrugged, pushing the cart away. “Did you find the pasta yet?”
“No, but I did find the ice cream,” he said, easily catching up to you with his long legs.
“Ooh, I think that’s where we need to go next.”
“I agree,” he grinned, steering the cart in the right direction. “I think we should probably just get all of them, ya know? That way we won’t miss out on anything good.”
“Harry, there’s like thirty different flavors here,” you laughed. “We are not getting that much ice cream, we don’t even have that much space in the freezer.”
“No, that’s just because I have a bunch of frozen food in there. It’s mostly vegetables. Not that important. I can just throw that all away,” he argued, already opening the freezer door to reach for some ice cream.
“We are not buying thirty cartons of ice cream,” you shook your head. “We can get, like, ten, at most. Even that-”
“You already said ten!” he said, pressing a finger against your lips. “You can’t go back on that now. So pick some flavors!”
-----
“Which one do we want to try first?” He asked, looking at the large selection you had bought.
“Um… I think the salted caramel core,” you decided, picking up the carton of ice cream.
“Oh! You know what we need with all of this?”
“Insulin?”
“No,” he rolled his eyes, grabbing one of the bags from earlier and pulling out the brownie bites. “I told you we needed these, they’ll go perfect with the ice cream.”
“Ooh,” you nodded. “That’s a good idea.”
“I know,” he said proudly. “I’m full of good ideas. Actually, I have another one. Let’s go watch The Office while we eat our delicious brownie bites.”
“Ok, but if you put on the UK version I might have to leave.”
“I would never,” he said in an offended tone. “I’m not a monster.”
-----
“I don’t want to go back to work,” he sighed. “I just wanna stay here with you.”
“I know,” you said, tracing patterns on his chest. “But I have to start working again too. I don’t think my boss is too happy about this whole arrangement, so I have to make everything twice as good so she’ll let me keep doing it this way.”
“Yeah,” he said, running his fingers through your hair. “I’m saying again, you could just quit.”
“I’m not quitting,” you shook your head. “I like my job. And I can do it all from the house, so it’s a really good deal.”
“I wish I could do that,” he sighed again.
“That wouldn’t work,” you smiled. “If we were both here all day, neither of us would get anything done.”
“You might be right,” he laughed. “You’re very distracting.”
“Oh, I’m distracting?”
“Very,” he grinned. You recognized the look in his eyes, and you knew if you didn’t get up soon you wouldn’t any time in the next hour
So before he could move too far and start kissing at your neck, you rolled off him.
“I have to get ready for work,” you said, getting out of bed.
“What do you mean get ready? You don’t have to go anywhere, we have all the time in the world,” he pouted, reaching out his arm for you.
“I don’t, but you do. Jeff has been texting you nonstop, and Sarah called the other day and told me she’s getting restless at home. So I’m taking the baby today, so all of you can get some work in.”
“You are? Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Because, if you knew we were having the baby here, you would come up with some excuse to stay here.”
“Maybe,” he smiled, still making no moves to get up. “She’s just so cute.”
“Well, sometime we can offer to babysit so Sarah and Mitch can go out for the evening or something. But you have to go in today, so you should probably get dressed.”
He groaned, flopping his head back into the pillows.
-----
“Harry! They’re here!” You called, opening the door and inviting Sarah and Mitch in. “Hi guys, Harry’s being a drama queen today so I’m not sure when he’ll be down.”
“When isn’t he?” Sarah smiled, stepping into the room with the baby in her arms. Mitch was carrying the diaper bag, which he set down on the bench next to the door.
Sarah handed the baby over to you as Harry came down the stairs.
“Aw, can I hold her?” He asked, not even greeting his friends.
“No,” all three of you said at once.
“Why?” He whined before smiling at the baby in your arms.
“Because you won’t be able to put her down,” you said, laughing when the other two nodded. “See, they know I’m right.”
“Fine,” he grumbled. “But Mitch, you’re taking Sarah out tomorrow night and we’re babysitting.”
“I’m alright with that,” Sarah smiled. “Y/N, you should have everything you need in the diaper bag. There’s enough formula for a few bottles, but she won’t need to eat for an hour or so. Other than that she’ll probably sleep most of the time, she’s a pretty quiet baby. She takes after her dad.”
You nodded, bouncing her lightly. Harry was already in her face, smiling and cooing and offering his finger for her to grab. She seemed to like the attention, and was smiling right back at him.
“Harry, we have to go,” Sarah said with one hand on the doorknob.
He huffed. “Just when I start to make a connection with the child, I’m ripped away.”
You rolled your eyes. “We’ll have her tomorrow night. You can connect with her then.”
“It won’t be the same,” he said. “You know- why don’t we just take her with us? She can just come with us-” he was already moving toward you again, but Mitch grabbed his shoulder.
“No, Harry, we actually have to get some stuff done today.”
“Fine,” he groaned. “But you better send me pictures if she does anything cute,” he pointed at you.
“Everything she does is cute,” Mitch argued.
“You’re really not helping,” Sarah said, hitting his arm. “I thought I had one child, but turns out I have three.”
-----
The next few days were not very productive for Harry. He was having a hard time getting back in the swing of things, and it felt like everything he did was bad. He couldn’t write or play anything he liked. He just felt stuck.
They went over some old stuff, just so he didn’t feel like they totally wasted their time. Still, he couldn’t help but feel incredibly frustrated. He didn’t usually have issues with writers’ block, and he expected to be even better now that you were with him all the time. He had always been more productive when he got to see you, so he thought living with you would give him an extra boost. Apparently not.
Then, to make everything worse, more pictures and articles came out. Pictures from the day you had gone grocery shopping had been captured by some fan, but for some reason hadn’t come out until today.
But they were suddenly everywhere. There were even more articles than before, and this time it was worse because there were full pictures of your face. Before, there had only been one blurry shot of your back, and that alone got enough criticism. Now it was like the floodgates had opened. Every aspect of your appearance was being ripped apart, along with Harry’s “decision making”.
He saw the first article when they were taking a break for lunch one day. They had ordered some pizzas, and everyone was spread out on the couches across the room.
Harry unlocked his phone, ready to call you and ask about your day, but was instead met with another text from Jeff. Like the one before, he had advised Harry to keep you off social media for the next few days and apologized that it got this out of hand.
Sighing, he decided to see what they were saying this time.
“Harry Styles goes on a shopping spree- But who’s that with him?”
“Harry’s “new girlfriend” shops with him?”
"DID SHE MOVE IN?”“
“MYSTERY GIRL and HARRY STYLES search for the necessities!”
He clicked on one of the articles.
“Harry Styles and his mystery lady were seen shopping last week. We can’t help but think things might be getting more serious!
The former One Direction star was spotted moving boxes into his house a few weeks ago. What we thought may have just been a favor for a friend might be something much more juicy!
Maybe she’s not just another notch in the bed stand- maybe this one will stick around!
But really, if she wants to stick around- maybe she should watch what she eats. The Sign of the Times singer was searching for healthy snacks, while his newest girlfriend filled the cart with ice cream and chips. Seems like a recipe for disaster between the two!
Again, she’s seen wearing a very simple outfit. And no (or at least, very little!) makeup. Come on girl, you couldn’t have at least used a little concealer for those eye bags?
It seems like she’s just not trying very hard! We have to wonder- how long can this last?”
“Fuck’s sake,” Harry groaned, grabbing the pillow next to him and chucking it across the room.
“Harry, what’s going on?” Sarah asked. Everyone had noticed how on edge he had been lately, but no one was quite sure how to address his moodiness.
“Another article just came out,” he sighed. “It’s worse than the last one. I’m so sick of this.”
“Does Y/N know?”
Harry shrugged. He didn’t feel like talking about it anymore, but he knew they wouldn’t just leave it without knowing if you were ok.
“You should probably call her, so she doesn’t hear it from someone else,” Sarah advised. “I would want to find out from someone I loved.”
“I can’t- I really don’t want to talk to her right now.”
“Did something happen with you two?” Mitch asked, confused. The two of you had been inseparable lately, so this was strange.
Harry shook his head.
“I just- can we just not talk about it?”
He could tell they didn’t want to drop it, but one of the assistants came in with the pizza, and Harry was clearly done talking.
His mood only got worse for the rest of the day. He still couldn’t make anything new, and he was even having trouble with things he already knew. He struggled to hit the higher notes, and his throat was getting sore from trying to force it. By the time people were starting to head home, he was ready to throw a lot more than a pillow.
Harry dropped his keys when he was trying to unlock the door, and then his coat fell off the hook when he tried to hang it up. By the time he got to the kitchen, his jaw was clenched and he was fuming.
“Hi,” you said tentatively, noticing how angry he looked.
“Hi,” he said shortly, opening the fridge. “Is there anything to eat?”
“I didn’t make anything,” you said, still typing on your computer.
“You didn’t-” He shut the fridge aggressively, the bottles and containers in the door clinking against each other. “You couldn’t make supper for one night?”
“Excuse me?” You looked up, crossing your arms defensively. “I’ve been working.”
“So have I!”
“And I don’t expect you to make supper after you’ve been working all day!”
“It’s different, you’re home all day!”
“That doesn’t mean I’m not busy, Harry. You know that.”
“Well what am I supposed to do?”
“I don’t know, you could stop yelling at me for starters! I didn’t do anything wrong and you're acting like you hate me.”
His face softened immediately, and he stepped forward. “I’m sorry,” he said. “I’m so sorry. I don’t hate you, I could never. I just-” He scrubbed his face with his hands. “I’m having a terrible time with work. I can’t do anything right, nothing is working, and all these articles-”
“The articles came out weeks ago, Harry. It’s not that big of a deal anymore.”
“No,” he shook his head. “There’s more. A lot more, and they’re worse than before.”
“Oh,” you said quietly. “I didn’t know that.”
“I know,” he replied. “I should have told you earlier, I just- I don’t know. I don’t want you to have to deal with this.”
“Well, keeping it a secret from me and then yelling at me isn’t going to help anything,” you said, arms still crossed. “I know you’ve been having a hard time lately, Sarah told me. You can talk to me, you know. You don’t have to just keep everything in.”
“I didn’t want to put this on you,” he admitted, looking down.
“I want to know,” you told him. “I want to know when things are upsetting you or you’re having a hard time at work. You can tell me those things.”
He nodded. “I’m sorry,” he said quietly. “I shouldn't have raised my voice. Please forgive me?”
“Of course I forgive you,” you said, moving around the table and closer to him. He looked up, opening his arms and smiling as you stepped into them.
“It will get better soon,” he promised. “It won't be this hard for long."
-----
Despite his hopeful words, your situation didn’t get any easier. More articles came out, most of them attacking Harry for his past relationships and wondering how long this one would last. His writers’ block showed no signs of easing up, and he was getting more frustrated with every day that passed.
On top of all this, you had started missing deadlines for work. The difference in time zones made it more difficult than you had anticipated, and your boss was not happy. You’d already had to sit through three Zoom meetings this week, with her lecturing you on “the importance of timeliness and responsibility.”
You were not in the right state of mind to deal with Harry’s moodiness, and the atmosphere between you was painfully tense.
That is, until it all boiled over one day.
Harry came home angry, again. He slammed the door shut and basically stomped to the kitchen. Your day had already been stressful enough, and you weren’t about to let him take out his frustration on you.
“Don’t even start with me today, Harry,” you shook your head.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” He asked, immediately getting defensive.
“I know you probably had a terrible day, but so did I. I’m sick of us fighting.”
“You think I want to fight? I’m so sorry for being stressed,” His voice was heavy with sarcasm.
“And I’m not? It’s not like you’re the only one in the world having a hard time, Harry!”
“What do you have to be stressed about? I’m the one who can’t get any work done, and I’m the one getting ripped apart by the media,” he huffed.
“Excuse me? Have you been on ANY social media lately? Are you the one getting called ugly for not wearing enough makeup? Or accused of being “Harry's newest slut”? Because that’s that they’re saying about me!”
“And how do you think that looks for my reputation?”
“Oh, so now it’s my fault that people are attacking you?”
“No,” he sighed, dropping his face into his hands. “I don’t want to fight about this. I’m just really stressed right now, and-”
“Again, Harry, so am I! I changed my entire world to come and be with you, and it’s like you don’t even care, or appreciate all the sacrifices I made!”
“What sacrifices? You don’t-”
“You did not just say that,” you breathed. “Are you kidding me? I gave up everything! I left all my family and friends. I can’t go out in public without people taking pictures of me, and posting them, and saying terrible things about me. I’m trying to figure out my new work situation, and my boss is pissed at me all the time. I’m probably going to get fired if I don’t figure something out. I-”
“You act like you’re the only one with work troubles!” he exclaimed. “My entire career is on the line if I don’t start writing again soon. And all this shit in the press- it’s not exactly motivating.”
“It’s affecting my job too. Do you think my company wants to be involved with all the drama about us? It doesn’t look good for them. All the more reason for them to fire me.”
“But it’s worse for me!” he raised his voice to match yours.
“Why is it worse for you, Harry?”
“Because-” He stopped himself, seemingly knowing he had gone too far.
“No, say it. Say why it matters more to you. Because everything about you is more important, isn’t it?”
“That’s not what I meant-”
“But it’s exactly what you meant! You care more about your career than you do about me.”
“That’s not true,” he said, an intense look in his eyes. “You know that’s not true.”
“Really? That’s not how you’ve been acting lately.”
“It’s not like that-'' he exhaled a frustrated sigh. “I’m just saying, all this bad press is really getting to me. I’m going to lose support, and it’s going to be hard for me to get it back.”
“Oh please, you’re Harry Styles,” you spat. “You’re the golden boy of the music industry. You’ll be fine. Other people, like me, are actually in trouble here. I’m actually at risk of losing something!”
“You can just find another job!” He threw his hands up. “I’m more in the public eye, it affects me more. That’s all there is to it.”
“I can’t believe you!” you were on the verge of tears now, simply from how frustrated and angry you were. “It affects you more? You’ve been dealing with this for years. How do you think it feels for me? I’m new to all of this, and you’re acting like I should know how to handle everything.”
“You knew it was going to be like this when you first started dating me!” he argued. “I told you, and you said you didn’t care.”
“Yeah, but I didn’t think it would be this miserable!” You said, the first tear rolling down your face.
“Well if you’re so miserable, maybe you shouldn’t have agreed to move in with me.”
This stopped you in your tracks. Everything the two of you had said so far was angry, and in the heat of the moment. But this felt different. It felt like he had crafted this sentence specifically to hurt you, not to voice his feelings about the situation.
“Fine,” you stood up, grabbing your laptop and charger. You walked right past him, out of the kitchen and up the stairs.
“Where are you going?” He called.
You didn’t answer. You went into your closet, pulling out the backpack you used to use for traveling back and forth between your house and Harry’s. You began shoving clothes into it, but made sure not to include any of his shirts or hoodies.
“What are you doing?” Harry came into the room, speaking quietly.
“Packing,” you said shortly.
“Don’t do that,” he frowned. “You can’t just leave.”
“Yes I can,” you shot back, still not looking up at him. You zipped up the bag, brushing past him as you went back downstairs.
“Where-” he followed you quickly. “Where are you going?”
At this point, you realized you didn’t have anywhere to go. You didn’t have any close friends; most of your friends were also Harry’s. And you needed to be with people who didn’t remind you of him right now.
“I’m going home,” you said, finally turning to look at him.
“What?” His face fell.
“I’m leaving. I’m going back home. I can’t be here right now.”
“No- you can’t leave!” he said, his face paling. “You can go stay with Sarah and Mitch, or with Jeff and Glenne- or I’ll get you a hotel room or something, but you can’t-”
“Yes I can, Harry,” you cut him off, repeating your sentence from earlier. “I need my family. I need to see my mom. I- I have to go.” You reached for the door handle, but he stopped you, placing his large hand against the door.
“You can call them,” he said, beginning to look desperate. “Or- or we can even fly them out here. But please don’t do this.”
“You’re the one who told me to leave if I was so miserable here,” you said, trying to stop your chin from wobbling. “So that’s exactly what I’m doing.”
“I didn’t mean that! I’m so sorry, I should have never said- I don’t want you to leave. That got way out of hand, I went too far, I’m so sorry.”
“It did. And I can’t be here right now. So let me-” you tried the door again, but he kept it firmly shut.
“Please don't do this,” he whispered. “Please just… stay here tonight. I’ll sleep in the guest room, I won’t bother you if that’s what you need. Or if you really can’t be here, go stay with-”
“No,” you said decisively. “I need to go home. You’re making me feel worse by forcing me to stay here, can’t you see that?”
He dropped his hand away from the door, pressing his lips together. He gave a short nod. “If you have to-” his voice broke, and he quickly cleared his throat before speaking again. “If you really have to leave, then I’ll drive you to the airport. It’s not safe to be out alone this late.”
You shook your head. “I can get a cab, I’m not going to make you-”
“Either I drive you, or you’re not going,” he said firmly. “I need you to be safe.”
You sighed, but nodded, knowing he wouldn’t give in. He was just as stubborn as you were.
-----
You were both silent for the entire drive. Harry didn’t even try to argue with you, which you were grateful for. He seemed to understand that this was what you needed, and he couldn't change your mind.
-----
“Please don’t do this,” he said one final time, watching you walk toward the gate. His heart broke a little more with each step you took.
Even though you wanted to, you didn’t look back. You knew that one look at his sad face would be enough to break you, and you couldn’t let that happen. You needed to go home. You needed your family.
Harry stood at the large window, watching with crossed arms as the plane took off. Once you were officially gone, the first tear slipped down his face.
He made his way out of the busy airport in a daze. He barely registered that he had made it back to his car until he was sitting in the driver’s seat. He reached for the keys, but his hands were shaking so much he couldn’t manage to start the vehicle. Instead, he dropped his head to rest against the steering wheel, and he cried. He couldn’t remember the last time he cried this hard. He felt like he couldn’t breathe; there was a huge weight on his chest.
Had he just lost the love of his life?
-----
He didn’t know how long he sat there, but eventually he realized he needed to get home. He needed to figure out what to do.
As soon as he pulled in the driveway, he pulled out his phone and called Mitch.
“Hello?” Came his friend’s tired voice. It was the middle of the night, after all.
“I need you to come over right now,” Harry rushed. “I fucked up, I fucked up so bad and I don’t know- what am i supposed to do? I can’t do this- I need her!”
“Wait, slow down,” Mitch instructed. “What happened?”
“I- just come over right now,” Harry said, hanging up the phone.
-----
When Mitch arrived, he immediately knew something was very wrong. He had never seen Harry look so torn up. His eyes were red, and he was pacing back and forth while running his hands through his hair.
“What happened?” He asked again. “Where’s Y/N?”
“She’s gone,” Harry said. “She fucking left. She went back home.”
“Is she ok? Did something happen with her family?”
“No, Mitch,” Harry said, scrubbing his hands over his face. “She left because of me. We had a fight- a really bad one. I said some really shitty things, and it got way out of hand, and now she’s gone. I don’t- what am I supposed to do?”
“What did you say? Was it about the articles that came out?”
“Somewhat,” Harry nodded. “She said it was starting to affect her job, and I said it was affecting mine too, and she said she was miserable, and I… told her if she was so miserable she shouldn’t have agreed to move in with me in the first place,” he looked down in shame. He felt terrible as soon as the words left his mouth the first time, but going over the fight with someone else felt ten times worse.
Mitch took a deep breath. “Yeah, that’s... pretty bad.”
“Yeah, no shit it’s pretty bad!” Harry snapped. “Sorry, I’m sorry,” he groaned, falling back on the couch. “I just- what do I do?” He leaned his elbows on his knees, cradling his head in his hands.
“I don’t know,” Mitch admitted. “Did she say when she’s coming back?”
“No,” Harry said miserably. “She just said she needed to go home. I tried to get her to stay, I really did. I said I could get her a hotel room, or ask if she could stay with Jeff or something, but she said she needed her family. The worst thing is… she said she needs to go home. I thought she saw this as her home now. I thought she wanted to be here. I thought she was happy here,” his voice broke, and he dropped his head again. “I don’t… I don't think she loves me anymore.”
“Don’t be ridiculous,” Mitch shook his head. “Of course she loves you. Do you know how many fights Sarah and I have had? You just have to give her time.”
“Yeah, but did Sarah ever leave the country after you fought?”
“...No,” Mitch sighed. “No, it never got that bad.”
“Exactly,” Harry said, another tear falling down his face.
“She will come back, Harry. She loves you way too much to stay away for good.”
“Not this time,” Harry shook his head. “I think it’s different this time. I honestly don’t know if she’s coming back. I don’t know how to fix this.”
“Well, you have to apologize,” Mitch said. “As soon as her plane lands, call her. Tell her what you told me. Tell her how sorry you are and that it got out of hand and you didn’t mean anything you said.” He paused before speaking again. “You didn’t mean it, did you?”
“Of course I didn’t,” Harry snapped again. “I was just… I’ve been in such a terrible mood, and I took it out on her.” He shook his head, whispering, “I’m so stupid.”
“I’m sure it will work out if you just-” Mitch was interrupted by his phone ringing. “Yeah, he’s alright,” he said into the phone. “I’ll explain when I get home." He paused before sighing. "Again? Ok, I’ll be there in a few,” he said before hanging up. “I’m really sorry, I have to go. The baby’s sick and apparently threw up all over her crib. I have to go help Sarah clean up. Just… tell Y/N the truth, okay? Make sure she knows how much you love her.”
Harry nodded, still looking awful as he raised his head. “Thank you.”
“Of course. Let me know if you need anything else, okay?”
-----
Harry started calling you as soon as Mitch left. He knew you were still on the plane, but he wanted you to hear his apologies as soon as you landed.
“Hi love… I’m so sorry. I don’t even know how to explain how terrible I feel. I didn’t mean anything I said. I was completely out of line, and I shouldn’t have let it go that far. I love you so much and I never wanted to hurt you. Please call me when you get this.”
Then he sent a quick text.
Harry: Let me know when you get to your parents’ house so I know you’re safe. Love you.
After that, he knew there wasn’t much else he could do. He wandered back up to his bedroom, looking at all the pictures the two of you had hung on the walls together. He thought back to the day you had moved in, and how happy you had both been. He remembered when he tried to put a nail in the wall, but swung the hammer at the wrong angle and put a hole in the wall instead. He remembered how shocked you had looked, covering your mouth for a second before you both burst out into laughter.
He remembered sitting on the living room floor and eating Chinese food while you played scrabble. Sure, you had ended up dropping lo mein all over the board, but it was worth it.
There were still traces of you all over the house. Your coffee cup still sat in the sink from this morning. Two of the cabinets were still open, because you always forgot to close them. There was a purple scrunchie on your bedside table, and a blue one on the bathroom vanity, and a white one hooked over one of the kitchen cabinet knobs, because “I never know when I’ll need to put my hair up!”
He couldn’t look anywhere in the house without thinking of you. He didn’t want to be in this big empty space all alone. The only way he could think of to make all the painful memories stop was to go to sleep. So, he did just that. He pulled your pillow against his chest, cuddling it like it was you in his arms. There was the faint smell of your conditioner stuck to the fabric, and he buried his face in it to just breathe you in.
The next two days were the worst Harry had ever been through. He didn’t know what to do with himself. You weren’t answering any of his calls, and your voicemail inbox was full. He kept texting, but you weren’t even reading any of them. He paced all day, trying to occupy himself. If he didn’t think of something to keep him busy, he would just keep texting, and he was sure you were pretty annoyed at this point.
But he couldn’t help himself, so he quickly unlocked his phone and started typing.
Harry: I’m so sorry, I can’t even put it into words. Please just let me know when you’re coming home?
He scrolled up through his previous messages, sighing when he realized how pathetic they sounded.
Harry: Please stop ignoring me, I need to talk to you.
Harry: I’m sorry, I’m so sorry. I love you so much, please come home.
Harry: I sound like a broken record, I know, but I just need you to know I feel awful for everything I said.
Harry: I don’t even care how pathetic I sound with all of this, I can’t lose you.
He decided he couldn’t wait anymore. He didn’t even care if you weren’t ready to come back to London yet, but he needed to see you. He stood up from the couch and marched to the front door. He was going to get the next flight out to you.
He whipped the door open, ready to run to his car- and stopped abruptly in his tracks when he was met with your apprehensive face, one hand raised as if you were about to knock.
His eyes went wide, and he froze. He didn’t say anything, and you could hear him breathing heavily. His gaze flickered all around your face, almost as if he couldn’t believe you were really here in front of him.
“Hi,” you said hesitantly, lowering your hand. You opened your mouth to speak again, but he pulled you inside and against him before you could say anything. He held you tightly, arms wrapped against you as if you were going to disappear right before his eyes.
You reached up, putting your arms around his neck as he rocked you gently. His face was buried in your neck, and you could feel his chest shaking.
You just stood there with him, letting him hold you until you could feel his breathing evening out again. After what seemed like hours, he pulled away to look at you. He put his hands on the sides of your face, his eyes flicking between yours desperately as if he still didn’t believe this was real.
“Are you- are you home? Are you staying?” He whispered. His eyes were bloodshot and he looked like he hadn’t slept since you left. The sight was enough to make guilt stab through your chest.
“I’m staying,” you nodded. “I’m not going anywhere.”
He exhaled shakily, pulling you against his chest again. Your head was turned so you could hear his heartbeat, and it still seemed dangerously fast.
“I’m so sorry,” you murmured. “I should never have left.”
“It's ok,” he shook his head. “You’re here now.”
“It’s not ok,” you lifted your head to look at him. “I was angry. But I never should have let you think I was leaving you. That was unfair of me. I said awful things to you too, and I didn’t even say I love you before I left.” Your eyes were watering again, but you blinked back the tears.
“I didn’t… I didn't know if you were going to come back,” he admitted, voice thick with emotion. “I thought I lost you for good.”
You shook your head. “Of course not. I’m here, I promise, and I'm never going to do that again.”
“Good,” he laughed shakily, bringing up a hand to run through his hair. “I was terrified.”
“I know,” you said sadly. “And I feel like such an ass, coming back and just letting you welcome me with open arms. You should probably be really angry with me-”
“I’m not angry,” he quickly shut you down. “I was scared. I was so, so scared. I was about to get on a plane and fly out to you. And of course I’m welcoming you with open arms, I love you. You can always come back to me.”
You nodded, this time letting a tear slip down your face. “I love you too.”
He smiled, wiping the tear with his thumb. “What made you decide to come home?”
“I got there and I expected to feel better. I drove all around town, going past all the spots I used to love. It made me… nostalgic, I guess, but it didn’t comfort me like I expected it to. I went to my parent’s house, and they were great, but all I could think about was the times you’ve visited there with me. I went up to my room, and all I could think about was the time we stayed in there and my bed was way too small so I was basically sleeping on top of you. And how we couldn’t get to sleep because we kept laughing, because your hair was tickling me or I would hit you with my knee. Everything I did made me think of you. And I realized- that town isn’t my home, and neither is that house. This is my home. You are my home.”
His eyes were shining just like yours, and you both reached up to wipe the other’s tears away.
“You’re my home too. And if you want to move closer to your family, we can do that. I don’t care where we live. We can go anywhere in the world, as long as I’m with you.”

no taking back
summary: it was only fun and games. but steve had other plans.
warnings: modern au, tooth-rotting fluff i guess, little but of swearing
+ olivia rodrigo’s sour album (stream besties), the movie tangled at the end because it just radiates as a comfort movie
yes a modern au !!! i just saw this on tiktok (the sour part, but the rest was my idea!) and thought it was so cute so it gave me an idea to make it as a fic, enjoy !!!
steve harrington x fem!reader
olivia rodrigo’s new album just released and you were thrilled to listen to it and stream it the whole day.
when you finally got to listen to it, you asked your friends—robin, nancy, and the party, if they listened to it and which ones were their favorites.
robin told you that her top three were hope ur ok, jealousy, jealousy, and brutal.
nancy said she really loved favorite crime.
max said hers was also brutal.
el told you that she played good 4 u and traitor on repeat that hopper had to go into her room to turn it down.
when mike comes over to the cabin he can assure that el does indeed play them on repeat and get pissy about it (but he secretly loves the album, but he wouldn’t let her or anyone know that).
and lastly lucas and dustin are fans of deja vu and 1 step forward 3 steps back. max even told you that they would sing the bridge of deja vu on the top of their lungs.
you slightly laughed at the memory of them telling you about it.
however, there’s one more person that you haven’t talked to about it yet.
steve.
your smile faltered and faded when he came across in your mind.
your feelings for him had deepened over the time and listening to the sour album made it feel like you two had broken up, which in fact, is not true because you were never together in the first place.
suddenly, an idea popped in your head. instead of being sad about steve, you thought about texting him, although it’s almost 1AM, you knew he’d still be up.

Incoming video call...
Sailor Man
you took a deep breath before tapping the green button and placing it back down on the bed.
“hey,” you can tell that he was tired based on his voice. “can you show your face, please? i miss you.”
ignoring the butterflies in your stomach, you hesitantly lifted the phone and shifted your position to lay on your side. “hey.”
“hey yourself.” steve grins. that stupid grin that makes your stomach turn, that grin you always want to see everyday.
“what’s..up?” you avoided looking at him and started to admire your surroundings and the posters placed on your wall. this was the only time you were glad you weren’t with him in person.
“i just wanted to see if you’re okay.” of course he will ask that. he's steve. he cares about other more than himself.
“i am, thanks.” you showed a smile that doesn't reach your ears and steve knew something was bothering you. “hey, look. i'm sorry about my confession- if it made you uncomfortable i'm sorry-”
“no,” you cut him off, looking back at his face on the screen. “i’m fine, really. you don't have to apologize. i was just, surprised.”
there was silence between the two of you for a few seconds, before you spoke again. “did you mean it?” you voice was only above whisper but steve managed to hear them. “of course,” he answered almost too quick, without any hesitation. “i've been trying to find the perfect opportunity and had been asking god for signs because i can't make a move myself-”
“asking god?” you chuckled and steve smiled hearing them, glad that he somehow lightened the mood. “well, more like begging.” he continues and you giggled.
once your laughter died you both fell into silence again. you still couldn’t believe that out of a fun joke, it would turn into a whole another situation. “so, um.. just so you know, i’m not mad, or upset, or anything. i really was just surprised. it felt like a dream because i didn’t know that you like me back and all i did was just supposed to be a fun joke but—”
“hold on, back?”
“what?”
“like you back. you said i like you back.” steve sat up on his bed and fixed his hair as his eyes widened. “i did...” you said slowly, not catching up.
“does that mean you..”
then it hit you. “oh, right. yeah. i- i like you..too.” you waited for his reaction and once you saw him smile you couldn’t stop yourself from doing the same.
“i knew it. and well, i guess that confirms it. we’re dating now. no taking back.” he smirks then laughs when your rolled your eyes. “don’t flatter yourself, harrington. i did not say shit.” you pointed your index finger on the screen, barely containing your giggles.
“based on your beautiful smile i think you don’t need to say it. i like you, and you like me. we’re dating.” steve gives you a teasing smile. you tried keeping your serious face but it won’t last longer so you finally smiled again. “alright, fine. no taking backs. we’re dating.” you said then laughed as he whisper-yelled ‘yes!’ while fist pumping the air.
he soon joined your laughter and you stayed like that until your jaw was pretty much in pain because of your smiles. when it was all quiet again, you both just admired each other’s presence through the screens of your phones. “i wish i was there with you.” he mumbles. “yeah, me too.” you hugged your cold pillow beside you, closing your eyes for a moment and imagining it as steve.
“are your parents home?”
you snorted at his random question. “i’m actually alone right now, they’re out because dad got promoted at his work so he and mom and i think a few friends went out to celebrate. they should be home by an hour or two. why?”
“nothing.” was all he said before hanging up. you were left confused but then he’s your best friend after all, so you knew right then and there that he’ll do something stupid. after you turned your phone off you suddenly felt watching a movie so you went to the kitchen to make some popcorn.
when it was finished and had been put in a bowl, that’s when you heard your doorbell rang—in a pattern which you recognize, and only one person does that.
you let out a quiet laugh when you realized who it was and set the bowl on the counter before opening the door.
“hi!” steve greeted you with a smile. “uh, hi?” you laughed nervously and stepped aside for him to go in. “i smell popcorn, are we having a movie night?” he says as he steps inside and shrugged off his jacket. “actually yeah, i’m planning on watching—”
“tangled.” he finishes off, you subconsciously smiled upon hearing your favorite movie. “how’d you know?”
steve snatches a few popcorns from the bowl as you both arrived in the kitchen. “(y/n), you have watched that movie 7 times this week and always gush to me about it.”
“well, you’re the only one that is around my age that i can talk to with that movie. robin and nancy aren’t that into it.” you replied, grabbing the bowl and making your way back to your bedroom, steve following your heels. “and you think i’m the best option to talk to about that?” he asks, plopping down on your bed and resting his back on the headboard.
“you’re not complaining.” you shrugged as you grabbed your laptop and sat beside steve.
“yeah, probably because i like you.” it came out of his mouth casually. you froze in place and felt your cheeks heat up, finally nodding your head slowly, “..probably.” as you typed in the movie in your laptop you felt steve scoot closer, making your breath hitch.
you were both in a comfortable silence while watching the movie, except for a few jokes and comments that steve makes and him explaining how similar he was to flynn rider.
“you know, since i’m eugene, you could be rapunzel.” he suddenly says. you eyes were still on the screen but your eyebrows furrowed. “why? i’m nothing like her.”
finally looking at steve, you almost screamed how he was already looking at you. “oh, you are so rapunzel. you may not have the longest hair in the world, but you are pretty much similar.” he replies, smiling and not taking his eyes off of you.
you paused the movie and shifted your body towards him, intrigued by his explaination. “how so?”
“well, first off,” steve starts, resting his hands on the soft mattress. “you’re both sweet, you’re both a huge ray of sunshine, have gorgeous eyes and smile, and eugene is head over heels over you — and since he doesn’t exist in real life, i’d like to be the substitute.” he finished with a confident smile.
after about three seconds, you burst out of laughter. you laughed. as much as he loves the sound of your laugh, he can’t help but pout. “(y/n), i’m trying to be sweet here!”
“i’m sorry!- it’s just- i can’t help but laugh at your flirting.” you managed to say between your laughs. you know he’s kidding but he looked at you like he was offended.
your laughter died down and held steve’s face. “it’s cute, sorry.” you mumble with a little laugh. when he finally smiled you turned to your laptop and continued the movie.
steve gazes at you for a few more seconds before watching the movie with you again. “thank you.” you whisper, glancing at him.
“you’re very much welcome, my rapunzel.” he says smiling before he slides a bit down on the bed so his head could reach your shoulder and rests it there.
you giggled as you heard him whisper,
“thank you, olivia rodrigo.”

Author: thexanwillshine (twitter, ao3) Pairings: Levi x Hange Cross-Postings: AO3 Notes: made for Day 2: Confessions of Levihan Week 2021
“But Levi,” Hange whines as she slumps her head on the back of her sofa and closes her eyes. “Kissing scenes are so tricky to write.”
Perhaps it’s the fact that it’s almost 5:30 in the morning. It could also be because he's tired from lack of sleep. Whatever the case, Levi Ackerman’s filter completely disappears when he asks, “Do you need a demonstration?”
Levi Ackerman can argue that every writer he’s met is always a little bit more eccentric than the average person, but no one proves his theory more than Hange Zoë.
Hange wakes him up in the middle of the night, voice screeching on the phone in her excitement. He responds groggily—as one does when their sleep is disturbed at an ungodly hour by an overly-excited author who acts as if they’ve just found out the answers to the universe—and tries to keep himself sober enough to understand what in the goddamn fuck Hange was talking about this time.
“Levaaiiii,” she says, drawling out his name in a manner that was both annoying and endearing, “I’ve figured it out!”
He can almost imagine the look on her face: starry-eyed in her joy, mouth stretched wide into a grin, fingers shaking as she bounces in glee, shifting her weight from the heels of her feet to the tips of her toes . . .
And Levi exhales in both relief and the tiniest hint of delight, because this is exactly how he wants Hange to be: happy .
Nevertheless, he replies “Figured what out?” snarkily.
Hange’s response comes out quickly, as if she needed to say everything that had to be said in the span of five seconds or less. “So you know how I’ve been trying to write a fiction novel because I wanted to get out of my comfort zone?”
Levi hums in acknowledgement as he fixes the covers over his legs before turning on his bedside lamp. He leans back on the bed frame and closes his eyes to listen to her ramble.
“So I was thinking, I wanted to write a romance novel, because you know how people fall in love and stuff?”
“No Hange, I’ve never heard of that concept in my entire life,” Levi says in a deadpan voice.
Hange laughs, because of course she would know that’s his pathetic attempt at lighthearted conversation. Levi is glad that she knows him better than most people, and it is this sense of familiarity that made him feel particularly comfortable when graced with her presence.
“Just because you’ve never fallen in love before doesn’t mean it’s not real, Levi!” Hange tells him in jest.
Wrong, Levi thinks.
“After all, you’ve probably never wanted to kiss someone your entire life!”
Wrong, Levi thinks.
“Sure, Hange.”
He rolls his eyes at her teasing, because yes, Levi has fallen in love—and maybe, just maybe, he’s still on the road to understanding what it meant to treasure someone far more than just a regular friend.
He shakes off such thoughts before maneuvering Hange back to the initial reason why she had called. “So, what did you want to tell me?”
“I finished,” she proclaims on the phone, her voice proud, “I finished writing the first ten chapters.”
Levi blinks in confusion before sitting straight up, the information processing in his mind that was still a bit drunk with sleep. “You what?” “I couldn’t stop writing,” Hange told him sheepishly, detecting the slightest hint of concern in her editor’s voice, “I’ve been writing for the past 24 or so hours. Maybe more.”
Levi grunts in annoyance, pulling the covers away from his body and jumping out of his unmade bed. He runs a hand through his dark locks, sighing. “Four-eyes, you need to get some sleep.”
“But Levi,” Hange says in protest, “I need you to read my draft. There are some parts I just don’t think are super natural.”
“And I was sleeping like a regular human being,” Levi retorted as he shrugged off his shorts. After that, he put on jeans that he had recently washed before patting down the shirt he was wearing in a pathetic attempt to get rid of the wrinkles that had accumulated while he tossed and turned in bed.
“Oh my gosh, Levi, I didn’t realize the time!” Hange replies, and he can almost feel her guilt starting to set in. “You should go back to sleep,” she immediately adds. “Take care of yourself!”
Levi slips on his rubber shoes and grabs his umbrella before answering. “Coming from you? Not that credible.”
Hange laughs light-heartedly, and his heart flutters just a tiny bit. Levi pushes the feeling away almost as quickly as it had come.
“Have you eaten?” he asks, almost dreading the reply.
There was none.
“Hange,” he calls, but there’s still no response. “Hange. Answer me,” he says firmly, prodding her on. “Have you eaten?”
The laughter that comes out from the other end is nervous. “Woops.”
Levi sighs. He opens his car door and slips inside smoothly, grabbing his keys from his pocket and starting the engine. “Hange, you’re supposed to eat.”
“Sorry,” she tells him honestly. “I really didn’t want to ruin my momentum. I can’t believe I forgot.” She mumbles her second sentence, sounding almost deep in thought. “I’ll go find food now! Want me to email you the working draft? You can look at it in the morning when you wake up.”
“No need,” Levi tells her, placing his phone on his dashboard and accelerating his car. “I’m on the way.”
“Levi!” Hange exclaimed excitedly as she heard her doorbell ring at around four in the morning.
She rushes to the door in delight, opening it to reveal Levi standing in front of her, a paper bag in his hand and a jacket half-heartedly slung over his shoulder.
“Hi,” he greets calmly, before walking inside and letting himself in.
Inwardly, Hange thanks whatever god is out there for her foresight. Her unit was relatively clean since she hadn’t really done anything since Levi’s last visit. The place seemed to pass Levi’s health protocols, since he sat on her couch and placed the paper bag on the table right across from him.
“Eat,” he tells her, crossing his arms over his chest.
Hange grins, before plopping down beside him and opening the paper bag. “What did you get me?”
“You’ll see.”
She raises an eyebrow at his ambiguity, before taking a glimpse inside the paper bag.
The smell of quesadillas immediately fills the room, and Hange lets out a soft squeal, taking out the food from the bag quickly.
“Oh my gosh,” Hange says as she nudges him on the shoulder. “You also got me onion rings! You know me too well, Levi.”
“Unfortunately,” Levi responds sarcastically, and Hange laughs almost automatically.
As Hange hums in glee, picking apart the paper wrapped around the food items, Levi maintains his silence. They stay like that as Hange eats. Every so often, she would comment about how the amount of cheese was perfect and how the onion rings just about melted in her mouth. Levi alternates between watching her eat and scrolls through his phone placidly.
Soon, he chooses to break the silence. “So where’s your draft?”
Hange is munching on her last piece of quesadilla when she glances in his direction. “Oh, it’s on my laptop! I can’t believe I forgot to tell you, this food was just so good.”
Levi stands up and heads on over to Hange’s room, gently pushing the door open and scanning the area for her laptop. On top of her unmade bed was a half open Macbook Pro, which he gently took before returning to his seat beside Hange.
Without hesitation, Levi opens the laptop and inputs the password. For some reason, Hange made it his birthday—1225—because she claimed that no one would guess such a random date. He is greeted with a blaring Google Docs document entitled “a;lskfjdk.”
“Nice title you got there,” he comments, and Hange chuckles.
“I didn’t want to think of a title yet, okay!” Hange pouts, and Levi nudges her foot gently in an attempt to comfort her from his own teasing.
He scans the document first before reading it. Hange is a good writer, but fiction is an entirely new genre for her. Immediately, he notices common habits from writing research papers leak into her new work: overexplaining, using words that are too formal for her target audience, sentences a little bit void from emotion.
He takes note of these comments on her notes app before going over her draft again, this time more meticulously than he had done previously. During this time, Hange finishes eating, wraps her trash and tosses them all inside the paper bag before standing up and dumping the entire thing inside her garbage bin.
“Levi,” she calls as she washes her hands through the sink faucet. Levi gives her the smallest hint that he’s listening by raising his eyebrow, but he doesn’t take his gaze away from her laptop. “I’m going to take a shower,” she announces, and he waves his hand dismissively.
Hange smiles to herself. Levi is always nagging her whenever she would accidentally hyperfixate on her writing, but he acts the same way when reading her works.
When Hange stepped inside the shower, Levi was already conducting a deep dive in her third chapter. The gears in his head slowly begin to turn as he begins to analyze her work.
The story revolved around the tales of the people who went to the clinic. The first chapter was a brief introduction on who the main characters were: There’s Janelle, a bright-eyed psychologist whose passion influenced the people around her. Together with El and Bea, her trusted assistants studying under her guidance, they would aid the people who went to the Hopiatria Clinic seeking care.
Meanwhile, the second chapter featured a child who felt as if she was being blamed for the death of her mother by her father. Her mother had died in a plane crash shortly after the young girl wished that her mom could go home on her sixth birthday. Janelle talks to the child gently while El and Bea provide emotional support, offering the child toys and biscuits whenever the need arises.
The third chapter was trickier, and it was there that Levi noticed a twist in Hange’s writing. The story revolved around a boy busy getting her doctorate, and a young girl who had been in love with him ever since they were in college. It’s the young girl who comes to Janelle’s office, and she relays the tale of her unrequited childhood romance to the psychologist.
The young girl is passionate, and wanted to take a step forward in order to guide her towards falling out of love with her best friend. Janelle presents two suggestions: (1) confession, while being fully-open to the possibility of rejection, and (2) accepting rejection without confession. The young girl decides to go with the first option, but to her surprise, the boy returns her feelings.
Everything seemed well-written up until the end of the chapter, where Hange had written,
And then they kissed.
Levi scrolled down the page, tilting his head to the side in slight confusion. That’s it? He thought, trying to find the rest.
Everything had been so well-described; from the girl’s internal turmoil—caused by her fear of destroying their friendship and the pain that came with unrequited love—to the boy confessing his own emotions for her.
The ending was anticlimactic, to say the least.
As he blinked at the google document in confusion, already typing out his comment on her notes app, Hange emerged from the bathroom. Her hair was loose on her shoulders, wet from her shower. Wrapped around her waist is his bathrobe, which she had borrowed from him long ago and never bothered to return it.
Levi scoffs as he glances in her direction. Here she was, parading with the cloth on and rubbing that specific fact in his face.
“Hey,” Hange greeted, smiling as she ran a hand through her brown locks, “How’s the reading going?”
“It was okay until the third chapter,” Levi says honestly, pointing the laptop screen in her direction. “The ending’s anticlimactic.”
Hange hummed, pursing her lips together. “Yeah. I didn’t really know how to end it,” she tells him as she opens her cabinet and grabs a few pieces of clothing. “Give me a bit, I’m going to change.”
She disappears into her room and Levi focuses on her story, trying to think of a way to spur Hange on and perhaps actively improve the ending’s writing.
Hange emerges in a loose t-shirt (which was, once again, his) and shorts. She sits down right beside him, leaning over his shoulder to glance at her laptop and read the specific line that particularly irked Levi.
“It’s that one, right?” Hange asks, pointing at the last sentence. “And then they kissed.”
“Yeah,” Levi responds, shaking his head. “Everything was so well-written up ‘till that point. You were able to describe the emotions perfectly, and the narration’s not that bad . . save for a few paragraphs that maybe should’ve stayed in your research papers.”
Hange chuckles. “Old habits die hard,” she responds, before taking her Macbook from his lap and transferring it to hers. “So what should I write?”
Levi shrugs. “I’m just your editor. You’re the writer.”
Hange pouts. “Yeah, but I don’t know how to make this better.”
“Maybe describe the scene more,” Levi suggests. “Everything ended so abruptly. Every emotion you’ve created and built disappeared in that one line.”
She nods in agreement.
Hange’s eyes shoot open immediately, and Levi’s face turns red just as quickly.
“F-Forget it,” he says, interrupting her just when he saw Hange open her mouth to speak. Any semblance of calm in his body disappears immediately, and his heart starts pounding against his chest in a rhythm that reminds him too much of a beating drum.
Hange, however, looks elated.
“You want to kiss me?” she tells him in excitement, blinking at him. “I’d like that. It could help me write this scene, you know.”
Levi looks away. “It was just a spur of the moment question.”
“So, you’re not going to kiss me?”
He actively avoids her gaze because he can already see from his peripheral vision that she looks sad, disappointed even. He grunts in response, closing his eyes and focusing his attention on a random spot on the wall.
“Oh,” Hange replies, “Well, I thought it was a good idea.”
Contrary to popular belief, Levi does want to kiss Hange. More than anything.
There were many reasons why: Because she looks so handsome and beautiful at the same time, and her very smile could light up any room she’d walk into. Because she says his name in the most endearing way. Because she understands his flaws. Because she has one of the kindest hearts he’s ever seen. Because she welcomes him with open arms, not a single thread of hesitation in her mind.
Most of all, it was simply because she was Hange.
He steals a glance in her direction, and she’s slightly fiddling with the hem of his shirt, her head downcast. Her sad expression tugs at hi
Levi thinks he’s already in this too deep, so he decides to speak.
“Did you want me to kiss you?”
From his periphery, he sees her look up at him so quickly he thought her neck would break. “What would you do if I said yes?”
He doesn’t dare turn his head in her direction when he replies quietly, “What do you think?”
“Would you kiss me?” Hange asks inquisitively, tilting her head to the side.
Levi’s heart skips a beat.
“Maybe,” he says in a voice barely above a whisper. “If you’d let me.”
Hange is silent for a moment, and Levi thinks this is it, I’m going to be rejected, but he feels a gentle finger touch his chin and turn his head in Hange’s direction.
He is met with her brown orbs, shining just a bit in what seemed like hidden glee. He cocks an eyebrow at her then, confused.
“I’m letting you,” Hange says, laughing. “Kiss me, I mean.” Her face is already slowly nearing his, and he can almost see the way her thick lashes brushed against her skin.
Slowly, Levi raises his head just a tiny bit and responds against her lips, “Okay.”
Hange smiles and closes the distance between them, wrapping her arms around his neck as he does the same around her waist. She tastes like the peppermint of her toothpaste, smells like his shampoo (which he had kept in her apartment since he always found himself staying over), and felt warm as her skin made contact with his. Hange's lips are gentle, slow, and a little shy—so different from how she usually is. Levi knows it’s because she doesn’t want to scare him off, so he makes the first move and nips at her lower lip, taking it between his teeth and sucking it gently.
She lets out a moan, and Levi takes this as a sign to continue. He slides his hand over her back, and she shudders and deepens the kiss at the same time. Her tongue meets his, and they battle for dominance. Hange’s hand sweeps over his undercut and pushes him towards him, and it is then that he lets out a sound that vaguely resembles pleasure.
After a few minutes, Hange whispers “Levi,” as her lips make contact with his. He hums in response, pulling his lips away from her and connecting his forehead with hers.
“Hange,” he says, breathless.
“Is this you telling me you like me?” Hange asks, closing her eyes.
He doesn’t form a reply through words, but he nods and closes his eyes as well.
“Great,” Hange tells him, pecking his lips with her own. “Because I like you too. Ever since I met you, I’ve liked you. Even though you were so rude to me on the first day of college.”
He chuckles silently in relief, pulling her closer to him before placing his chin on her shoulder. “Think you’ll be able to write the ending now that you know what a kiss feels like?”
Hange laughs, and it vibrates against his shoulder as she hugs him tighter. “It’s exhilarating. I probably wouldn’t be able to put into words how good I feel that you like me back.”
“Try,” Levi teases.
“Well . . . you know that alternative title I wrote for the fictional novel?”
Levi’s eyebrows furrowed in confusion. “The keyboard smash?”
Hange nods. “Yeah. That’s exactly what I feel like right now.”

Also because I am still so obsessed, any commentary from Thirty Minutes To Change Your Life!!!!
Please 💜
And finally hitting the other one. 🤣I'll try not to comment on the whole fic, but I'll definitely hit the highlights. This one is becoming surprisingly popular again, so I'm glad to get the chance to talk about it.
Okay, commentary below the cut and has been bolded to not get confused with the actual fic.
So first thing I think I should point out...this was my first fic entirely from Thorin's POV! I usually prefer Bilbo because I connect with Bilbo more, but writing awkward, misunderstanding Thorin was too much fun to pass up!
When Dwalin had the bright idea to open up a throwing axe bar right out of university, Thorin thought he was crazy. Never mind the level of lawsuits and liabilities he was opening himself up to by mixing axes and alcohol, but he wanted to put it at the base of the mountains to get cross traffic from Ered Luin and Hobbiton. Both were small towns with an equal amount of tourist traps. Hobbiton with their gardens and food-related festivals; Ered Luin, high enough for skiing and snowboarding.
I had just visited my first axe bar at this point, and had so much fun but immediately thought of Dwalin.
Thorin leaned against the bar top to where he could watch the axe stations as he waited. Dwalin was relatively busy for a weeknight, but Thorin could afford to stay out late. Dis was taking the boys skiing this weekend, and he did not have to go into the office the next day.
As he was absently sweeping the room with his gaze, he caught the eyes of a little button-nosed blonde sitting with another man at a table next to the bar. A “hobbit” from the look of him which was a slang term those in Ered Luin made for the people living in Hobbiton.
I really couldn't resist. 😆
He was pretty though, and most likely younger as gray hadn’t quite taken to him like it had Thorin. Still, it had been longer than he would have liked since he had last dated, and she had been a bore.
I love bi!Thorin. In fact, I HC him that way in most fics I just rarely get the chance to show it off.
He shot the hobbit a smile that had the other man ducking his head in embarrassment. Thorin mentally shrugged. Oh well, they were probably on a date anyways, and Thorin had just made an ass of himself.
“Oh, is that so COUSIN BILBO!”
Siggy is the best wing man. I hope everyone caught that Bilbo had been checking Thorin out since he walked in.
Thorin chuckled and took a drink of his beer for courage. He’s learned that asking people out at bars takes a bit of strategy. Going for the nonchalant play, he decided to walk by their table until he found a point in their conversation where he could jump in. It works well for him most of the time. Only this time, he heard something that nearly had him stop cold.
Okay, this. This conversation right here is the whole reason why I chose to write this fic. I had one of those Character A/B prompt starters stuck in my head, and it was "Character A overheard a conversation from Character B and completely misread the situation". Sounded like perfect Bagginshield material to me.
“You say this every year! You’re not going to jump, Bilbo.” The cousin groaned.
“Nope. You won’t change my mind this time, Siggy. I’ve got nothing to lose. I’m doing it this time.”
They wouldn’t be...there’s no way they would be talking about that so casually in a bar. Suddenly, all thoughts of hitting on the man went out the window as Thorin was riveted listening to more and making sure he wasn’t hearing what he thought he was hearing.
“Bilbo, I love you, but you’re not going to do it.” The cousin scoffed.
“Do you know I’ve promised myself every year since Mom died that this year will be different? I can’t keep living like this, Sig! I’ve just...I need to do this.”
“NO!” Thorin roared, spinning around.
Both men jumped in their seats staring at Thorin warily. Smooth, that was real smooth.
“What I mean to say is I couldn’t help overhearing and just...give me thirty minutes. Thirty minutes to change your life.”
And there you go, this was the entire section that I based an entire fic on. It wasn't until after I had finished writing that I realized with a sensitive topic like suicide, I didn't want people to think that a) I was trying to make light/make a joke out of it or b) be super scared that this fic was going to have some hard edges to it. Because it really was meant to be a fun fic of misunderstandings, but I liked that Thorin was the kind of guy that when he did hear something that sounded like this he was going to try and help. So the disclaimer was born!!
“Well, you are off to a marvelous start.” The hobbit lamented.
But what do I make them talk about now?? Was literal thoughts in my head. It seemed to work out well.
Thorin chuckled. “Give me a break. This isn’t exactly a conversation I expected to have when I woke up this morning.”
This is funny when you realize Bilbo isn't really talking about suicide.
“My little brother got leukemia back in our teens. I remember that helpless feeling well.”
“Yes!” Bilbo agreed. “Helpless. That’s a good word for it. I could never explain to my family why I couldn’t stay in the house when she became bed-ridden. Did your brother…?”
To kill Frerin or not...the struggle in any modern AU...
“He’s fine.” Thorin assured with a smile. “Little idiot is backpacking through the Mistys right now. I told him I would pay his way, but he said ‘this is a journey that must be savored and experienced naturally’ and then proceeds to send me selfies from every dance club he manages to worm his way into.”
And I chose to not. 😆
Alright skipping down a little ways...
Thorin was most assuredly careful. He had carefully picked out his blue button-up and black slacks. He had carefully combed his hair and trimmed his beard, and more importantly he had carefully applied just the right amount of cologne. The whole time he had to remind himself that this wasn’t a date. It couldn’t be a date, ever. That would be the definition of ‘fucked up’.  So, he tried to convince himself that he was just trying to make a good impression all the while sinking deeper and deeper into the pit of self-revulsion.
Yeah, in my head I didn't plan this part out very well and I was like "please don't let Thorin come across creepy..." Because the whole point was he was initially attracted to Bilbo. He wants this to be a date. But he also really thinks Bilbo in going through a hard time, and it's not exactly the best point to jump into a relationship. So there's this back and forth between, I like him and I want to be a really good friend to him.
“You’re here.” Thorin declared.
Bilbo couldn’t even get another word in before Thorin had him wrapped up in a hug. The smaller man froze with a soft ‘oh’, and then ever so hesitantly returned the embrace.
If I'm Bilbo, I'm thinking that Thorin is the most awkward hot guy ever, and little does he know...he's completely and totally right. Good news, awkward and shy works for Bilbo.
Bungee jumping. Bilbo had been talking about bungee jumping. Heat burst to Thorin’s face and he contemplated the quickest escape route.
And finally the reveal! I'm still grinning ear to ear reading this scene, but I definitely was writing this scene.
Bilbo’s brows furrowed at Thorin’s words, and it was rather unfortunate to the taller man that Bilbo was a quick study. His eyes suddenly widened.
“Jumping…” He murmured under his breath. “Did you think…?”
Thorin gave him the most pitiful look imaginable, and Bilbo couldn’t take it another second longer. He laughed. He laughed long and hard while Thorin hid his face in his hands. In fact, Bilbo’s was so tickled that his laugh changed from the rich and musical sound he had come to enjoy to a maniacal, wheezing bark that had most of the restaurant looking at them. Thorin had already drained his wine as he mentally calculated how many years it would take before he could show his face in Bombur’s again.
HA HA HA HA HA!! Do I enjoy torturing my characters? Yes, yes I do. This is certainly a date neither would have forgotten no matter which way things turned out.
“Perhaps, we can start over? I’m Thorin Durin, an idiot who listens in on parts of cute men’s conversations and jumps to the worst possible conclusion.”
Relief appeared in Bilbo’s face as he accepted the handshake enthusiastically. “I’m Bilbo Baggins. I find overconfidence and endearing idiocy very attractive, although I would advise you to choose your words more carefully. I knew someone once who seemed to think ‘jump’ was an automatic cry for help.”
Impromptu line that seemed to somehow be everyone's favorite. 🤣 My sister proofread this fic for me and asked me at this point if I was sure I didn't want to change the name to 'Jump'.
Thorin couldn’t help laughing which got Bilbo started up again as well. It took them forever to actually order any food, and yet it was the best date of Thorin’s life. Looking back years later, both men agreed it was the moment they fell in love with the other although they wouldn’t admit such a thing to each other or in the privacy of their own thoughts for many months after. In fact, their initial meeting was never brought up again. When asked how they met, it was simply ‘in Dwalin’s bar’. Thorin’s own family didn’t know his shame…well until the night of his and Bilbo’s wedding.
“So, I said, ‘what? He’s straight?’ And this great brooding idiot goes ‘no, suicidal’.”
MAN! Thorin was so close to getting away with it. But this is what best friends are for. I really enjoyed wrapping it up with their wedding. Even though this was a cute little world, I didn't see myself revisiting it for a sequel and so I wanted to show off all the scenes I wanted out of it.
The crowd erupted into laughter as Thorin listened to his best man’s speech warring between how to dispose of Dwalin’s body and resignation to the jokes he will be privy to at every holiday on both sides for the rest of his life. Bilbo, his wonderful, perceptive husband, lay his head on Thorin’s shoulder with a soft chuckle.
“I know, Dearheart, but think of it this way: those thirty minutes were truly life changing. For both of us.”
As Thorin turned his head to the man he wouldn’t be able to live without, he caught Bilbo’s lips in a quick kiss. He agreed completely and besotted. Best ‘jump’ he ever made.
Aww, aren't they precious? 🥰 I had such a blast reliving this experience. It is funny that Razzy's two favorite fics of mine have been the last day of my Birthday Plot Bunnies so I'm glad they made good birthday gifts! 😂 We'll have to see if Ghost of a Chance becomes a new favorite...👀

The R Drug part 4
A/N: I’m so sorry this took so long! I got swept up in bingos and lost motivation for it along the way. But it’s here now, and I hope you all enjoy it ❤

Year 1:
Sonny hardly contacts you. You go weeks with nothing from him, only to wake up at 4am with a phone call and a very drunk Sonny.
“Sonny? It’s 4am here—”
“Doll…I’m so—” you can hear how his words slur, and you can also hear that he’s crying— “so sorry, doll. I shoulda neva touched ya like that—”
“Dominick, are you drunk?”
You pinched the bridge of your nose, worried and annoyed at once. “So—sorry…so sorry…” and then he hangs up. You fell back onto the bed, concerned about him; Genoa was only six hours ahead of Manhattan. He was drunk at…10am. That wasn’t healthy.
Unable to fall back asleep, you shot him a text, making sure he was okay before you got in the shower. But he never responded. Sighing, you call his mom; you still had her number since Sonny called her from your phone, and you had been growing close with his parents.
She tells you that she’s worried he’s drinking away his problems, but every time she offers to go to Genoa, he shoots her down, telling her he needs time alone. You’re just worried that time alone means him sinking further and further into the bottle.
 ********************
Year 2:
You saw when your phone lit up, Sonny’s number flashing on your screen. You glanced around the precinct before answering your phone, heading for the on-call room for privacy. It had been three months since you had a drunken call from him, and you were going to lay down the law with him.
“Listen, Sonny, I can’t listen to your drunken ramblings while at work—”
“Ah, shit, ya at work, huh?” he asked, cutting you off. But he sounded lucid rather than drunk. “I’m sorry; I forgot the time difference. I just wanted ta talk, let ya know…I’m not drinkin’ anymore. Look, I’ll let ya go; text me when ya free so we can catch up…please.”
You felt bad for assuming, but with your only contact for the past year being drunk Sonny, it had become habit. “Y—yeah, I’ll see if I can leave early, okay? But don’t stay awake for me.”
“Don’t get in trouble fer me,” he replied, making you chuckle. “I’ll talk ta ya soon…and I’m sorry, fer the past year.”
 *******************
You were no longer with SVU; it had been too hard working there, especially without Sonny. But you also couldn’t deal with the stares, even from your squad. So, you transferred to Homicide instead. And your boss thankfully let you leave early.
You texted Sonny the moment you were home, and instantly he was calling you.
“First, I wanna say I’m sorry fer the drunk calls—”
“Dominick Carisi Jr. If you say the phrase “I’m sorry” one more time, I’m going to fly to Genoa and smack you,” you replied, cutting him off.
He fell silent for a moment before he let out a laugh. “Yeah, I bet ya tired of hearin’ that, huh? Well…After ya left here, I—I spiraled. Hard. Turned ta the bottle, if ya couldn’t tell. But I hit the bottom, and I’m startin’ ta work my way back up.”
“What happened? What bottom did you hit?” you asked, breathless. You were happy he was telling you all this, because you had been so, so worried. But you also didn’t want to pry into his personal life or make him uncomfortable.
It took him a moment to respond. “I…it was 5am when I woke up, shakin’ fer a drink. I remember the first three shots as I made a cocktail, and then…. I woke up in a hospital bed, my stomach pumped. I guess I dropped ta the floor when I lost consciousness, and my downstairs neighbor heard it.”
“Oh my god, Sonny! Are you okay now?” you asked, wanting nothing more than to give him a hug, hold him to you.
“Yeah, I’m good now. I had my stomach pumped and part of my liver cut out, but I’m okay. I no longa have the urge ta drink, and I dumped everythin’ I had. But please, tell me what’s goin’ on with ya; how’s life at the precinct?”
You spent hours talking to Sonny that night, even though it was getting later and later for him. He had so many questions, wanting to know everything going on with you. He vaguely mentioned that he got a job at a grocery store as a cashier, but otherwise, he was focused on you.
 ****************
Year 3:
You and Sonny talked almost every day, falling back into your habits before all this mess happened. You joked around, sent funny pictures to each other, ranted about your days; it was almost as if nothing ever happened. Almost.
From the pictures, you could tell that he was getting tanner, and he started growing out his hair and beard, making you swoon. Not that you’d tell him that; you weren’t sure if he’d be okay with you flirting yet.
But you were happy that things were getting back to normal with you two. It had been almost 4 years since the club incident, and it barely crossed your mind anymore. You had dated since Sonny was in Genoa, but no one seemed to be working for you. At least you could make out with someone without having flashbacks, so you called it a win.
You knew why it wasn’t working out for you, though; you were in love with Sonny, had been since the moment you met him. You were able to move past the club, but you couldn’t move past him. That’s why you had hated yourself so much, and that’s why you felt terrible leaving him behind in Italy. When he kissed you outside the airport in Genoa, you had thought that maybe he had felt the same way about you. Then that first year with drunk Sonny happened, and you weren’t sure about anything anymore.
You were still close with his family, too. Ma Carisi often invited you over for dinner, and you met Sonny’s sisters. You were the emergency babysitter for both Mia (who didn’t think she needed a sitter, until she met you and had fun with you) and Bella’s little girl. And Pa Carisi enjoyed having debates about laws with you, plus the odd sports talk. Slowly, you became one of the family, and you loved them all like your own.
 ***************
Year 4:
Ma Carisi called you, inviting you over for dinner once again. You accepted, telling her you’d be there in thirty. You had to park on the street with all the cars there; the Carisi girls were home for dinner, as well. You smiled as you made your way up the path to the front door, then knocked. The door opened, but instead of Ma Carisi greeting you with a warm smile, it was Sonny.
“Hey doll,” he said, eyes lit up with amusement. You froze for only a moment before you were crushing him in a bear hug. You heard the huff of air as you took the air from his lungs, but you didn’t care; you had missed him so much. You had pinned his arms next to him, so he couldn’t even hug you back.
“Doll…ya crushin’ me…” he gasped, and you finally let him go. Though, you kept your hands on his arms, not believing that he was there, in front of you.
“Are you back for good?” you asked, your voice hushed. You were waiting for him to deny it, for him to say he was only visiting.
“I’m back fer good. Already got my apartment—” He was cut off again as you hugged him, burying your face in his chest. You couldn’t stop the tears that appeared, so happy to have your best friend back. He rubbed your back, murmuring that it’s all okay now, and you had the sudden urge to kiss him. You fought the urge, not wanting to complicate things.
Instead, you ran your hands over his back, then leaned away to look at him. “Have you been working out?” It was true that he was deliciously tan, his hair coifed, and his beard trimmed neatly. He was already so much more attractive than you remembered, even with the pictures he had sent.
He barked out a laugh, a gleam in his eye. “I have, yeah. Whenever I felt the urge ta drink, I instead went to work out. I’m not a body builder or anythin’, though.”
“I’m proud of you, Sonny,” you said, and you meant it. You had gone through hell after the club incident, but Sonny didn’t have a walk in the park either. And you were glad he had found himself.
A pink tint appeared on his cheeks as he smiled at you. He took your hand, kissed your knuckles, and you swooned.
 ******************
After the surprise greeting at the front door, he brought you into the house. Ma Carisi and all his sisters gave you a tight hug and a kiss on the cheek, and Pa Carisi patted your shoulder; the normal greeting from the family. But now that Sonny was there, too, the energy was truly alive. Everyone was smiling and laughing, having a fantastic time together. The talk was loud, happy, and energized. It was almost as if Sonny hadn’t been hiding in Genoa for four years.
After the talk had finally died down, it was time for you to go home. Sonny offered to walk you to your car, and you agreed, not wanting to leave him quite yet.
“I’m so glad you came back, Sonny. I’ve missed you,” you said as you stood by your driver’s side door.
He grinned at you. “A promise is a promise. I told ya I’d come back once I was…better.”
“And are you better? Did you date at all in Genoa?”
His smile faded, and you worried you offended him. You were about to apologize when he spoke. “I am and I did. But no one there was…it fer me, ya know?”
“Yeah…same thing here. I dated a few people, but no one felt right—the spark wasn’t there. At least I had no flashbacks; I hardly remember that night anymore, to be honest,” you said, looking into his eyes, trying to gauge his reaction.
Sonny simply nodded. “Me either, really. It was so long ago…plus, I bet the drinkin’ didn’t help. But I do remember you, showin’ up outta nowhere on a random street in Genoa. Talkin’ me through the worst time of my life.”
“And I remember you, comforting me during a thunderstorm when you didn’t have to do that. Your emotions were everywhere; I couldn’t imagine the turmoil I must’ve put you through—”
“No, no, look at me,” he muttered, his warm hand cupping your cheek. “No matter what happens—in the past or the future—I wanna take care of ya, make sure you’re okay. Comfortin’ ya, it was a slice of normalcy after I thought I’d neva have that again. I needed ya there, and I’m so thankful I had ya.”
You smiled up at him, melting into his touch. His thumb stroked your cheekbone, and you felt closer to him than ever before. “You know what else I remember, Sonny?”
“Hm?”
Slowly, you leaned forward, going slow enough that he had plenty of time to pull away. But instead, he also leaned in until your lips brushed against each other. You smiled softly before you pressed your lips more firmly to his. The hand still cupping your cheek tilted you slightly, letting him kiss you a little more forcefully, his beard tickling you as he moved.
There was the spark that was missing from all your past relationships; you had felt it in the airport, but it wasn’t the right time. Now, however, there was nothing holding you back from deepening the kiss, your tongues coming together in a beautiful dance.
Sonny gently pushed you back against your car, the kiss getting more heated. Your hands went to his shaggy, luscious hair, tugging softly and making him moan into your mouth. His hands dropped to your hips, pushing you back against the car as his tongue memorized your mouth.
Reluctantly, he pulled away from you, both of you panting hard. You were about to suggest he show you his new apartment when he muttered, “I wanna take this slow. Please.”
You shut your mouth, nodding. You’d do anything to make him comfortable and happy. “I can do slow. As long as I have you, Sonny.”
His eyes brightened and he gave you his signature goofy smile. “Ya have me fer as long as ya want me.”

3. First Time
A/N: I really don’t like how this one turned out but I not going to go back and rewrite it. I already did that once and still barely got what I got now. As you can tell it’s a continuation of my last prompt set two years after the last. and I didn’t really finish it I just gave up with it and decided to post what I had.
~~~
The first thought Marinette had after her first time as Ladybird was; that her dad was going to; go against his no-killing rule and kill the person who forced her into this life.
She knew he never wanted this life for her, and if she did join, he wanted it to be her choice to join. She was glad she couldn't tell him because she really did not want to deal with his reaction. But at the same time, she really wished she could ask him for help because she doesn't even know where to start looking for hawkmoth. She hasn't been thought the thing her brothers have in being a detective, and she does have the equipment they have.
Maybe she can set up a website for people to post when and where Akumas has appeared at and with it, she can track them. There has to be a limit to the range the miraculous can reach. But the problem with that is she has no idea how to set up a website, and the only people she knows who can do it she cant ask. She can't ask Max because there is no resource for Marinette to need it; and no reason for Ladybug to know of Max. Then theirs her brother Tim who could do it; but if she asked him, she knew that he would figure her out even with the protection the miraculous grant.
Marinette could only grime at this thought as she turns over in her bed, and it turned into a scow that is eerily similar to her father's at the thought of Chat. She knew he was most likely a civilian with very little training. By the way, he was fighting, and how he treated his baton more as a saber and not in the way it's supposed to be used; he most likely has some sort of sword training. But he was reckless, and she could tell he didn't either let his kwami fully explain about the powers the kwami grants him or just didn't listen. She really hopes that he will get better with time and is willing to train to better protect Paris. She knew he didn't have the advantage that she did growing up in a house full of vigilantes.
Maybe he will let her teach him some stuff she knows, but before she does that, she wants to get a judge of his character first. He may be her partner, but that doesn't mean she will immediately trust him. He wasn't someone she knew and trained with. He wasn't someone she knew she could trust to have her back. Maybe with time and training, she will be able to trust him, but for right now, she can and will not trust him till he proves himself to her.
But there was one question she really wants the answer to and was going to find out.
"Hey Tikki, why were I and Chat chosen to weld the miracles?"
"Guardian felt the activation of the butterfly and knew he needed someone to weld my miraculous. But when my miraculous is active, the back cat also needs to be active too. Since he didn't have much time, he found the best matches for our miraculous he could. He was lucky when he found you; while Chat is suited to weld the cat, he is not a true cat like you are a true ladybug. you were chosen because you are a true ladybug, and Chat was chosen because he was the best choice that could be found in Paris." Tikki could see the doubt and insecurities in her chosen eye give her a reinsuring smile while she pats her cheek in comfort.
"Don't worry, Marinette, you'll make a fantastic Ladybug, or as you call yourself Ladybird. I know you will figure everything out, and I will always be here to help when you need it."
"Thanks, Tikki, I need that; I think I'm just worried I will not be enough. I don't have all the training that all my family has. Two of my brothers trained me in hand to hand and gymnastics. But I'm nowhere near as proficient in them as they are or were, and I have been able to keep up with my training exercises since coming to Paris. But I haven't been able to learn anything new since coming here. Maybe my aunt will finally let me take classes now since Hawk Moth has appeared."
Tikki could only blink in confusion when Marinette machined her brothers. She didn't think Mari had any siblings based on how small her home is. But when she called Sabine, her aunt, she got even more confused. Tikki thought Sabine and Tom were her parents, and Marinette just took after Sabine more than Tom. Tikki was really confused now and knew the only way to get her answers was to just ask Marinette herself, so that's what she did.
"I thought Tom and Sabine were your parents, and what do you mean you have brothers. Your home doesn't look like it has that much room for more people?"
Marinette blinked in surprise at her question. She forgot that Tikki wouldn't know that she wasn't originally from Paris. And she couldn't blame her for think they were her parents since her mom and Sabine were identical twins. So a lot of people mistake her for Sabine's daughter. The only people who acutely know that Sabine isn't her mom are her closest friends she has made. But they still don't know who her family is. They know about her family because she does talk to them about them, but they don't know who they are.
Marinette debated for some time on what she would tell her and diced she would tell her everything but the family secret.
So she went on to explain who her mom was. Then her life when living with her father about how Dick was brought into the family. And became her first soul brother. Then about her second soul brother, Jason, was adopted into the family and how he died and how not long after her father sent her here. About how she found out about her new brother Tim from Dick about six months after being sent to her aunt. And how Marinette didn't know if he is another one of her soul brothers or not because she hasn't met him in person. But she still loves him like he is one of her brothers. She told her about all the stupid and funny stuff she and her brothers have done.
She told Tikki the promise she made herself while leaving Gotham and how she plans to keep it. Then decided why not tell her how her life in Paris has been since she moved here two years ago. About the friends she made (Max, Kim, and Nino) and her Platonic soulmates (Alix and Chloe). About how she got to know her aunt and uncle, and how she took up designing after Jason's death, and how she fell in love with it.
Tikki had a wide range of emotions ranging from happy to sad to laughter to irritation at her father from the story.
"You know Tikki, you're the first person I've ever told this much of my life story to. And the only one to know my true name is Marinette Wayne, and not Cheng. I'm happy I could finally tell someone. I never noticed, but I really don't like using the last name, Cheng. But I know I cant use my last name because it's too well know even in France. I can't wait till I'm able to use my last name again."
"I'm happy you were willing to trust me with this secret of yours, Marinette."
Listen, I actually couldn't finish this episode. Like I lost brain cells, got ingestion and finally KO-ed because I could NOT grasp the plot. Not even seeing Lena again made this enjoyable for me. But here's what I got:
- I wonder how many takes Thomas took to say Nxyly's full name without biting his tongue off
- also I am so sorry Thomas that they had you sing. And yet somehow that wasn't the most cringe thing to happen in this episode
- Nia and Kara desperately assigning blame to themselves instead of just, idk, working together to fix the problem. Who cares who's fault it is??
- Alex jumping in front of kara when mxy brandishes the PZ projector is the only thing I liked
- Kelly's absence felt so odd after 2 back to back episodes of her front and centre
- Nia thinking that Kara would drag her for making a mistake makes me wonder if these characters even know each other
- kara: "I should've told you guys about Nxyly". Yes you idiot you absolutely should have! Like I get that they don't wanna bring it up but like how is ignoring what happened to her any better? Do they not do any Intel sharing?
- the fucking zookeeper is still here?!?!?
- look I wasn't expecting Lena to be talking to kara on the phone, I know better than that, but I had hoped it would at least be Nia considering that Lena and her have been bonding over their moms and it just makes sense??
- andrea's titty window sans kara or Lena to see it. What was it all for?
- I understand Lena using Andrea's resources to help her out and shit and I'm actually surprised the writer's remembered she doesn't have access to the LuthorCorp jet anymore. I honestly wouldn't have batted an eye if she did tho.
- the way we haven't had ANY scenes of dialogue between kara and lena aside from 6x01 and only ONE line from kara to Lena since then. Like are they actually going to brush everything under the goddamn rug? We heard from Alex that they've forgiven each other and it seems that way too but we haven't actually had the chance to judge that as an audience and it's (checks notes) 11 episodes already???
-Kara is back and yet Lena doesn't seem full. Kara is back and yet she hasn't been vulnerable with lena or with anyone really. Or was that all a lie?
- Nxyly is actually kinda hot in this episode. Interesting development there
- the team actually fighting a giant pussy cat and more brain cells have died. If they were hoping it would be amusing like the Legends fighting a giant Beebo, spoiler alert - it was not
- mxy and Nxyly and even the king has some keysmash names but one imp is actually named Jared? Just fucking Jared. Christ
- Lena being bullied by a bunch of Canadians is hilarious and I say this as a Canadian. Like Lena has stood her ground against Lex, Lillian, SG, an interrogation room filled with judgemental pricks, fucking Reign and yet, she looked two seconds from crying when denied her hotel room by some fucking Newfies. Get the fuck outa here.
- not a single Tim Hortons run in this entire episode. Are we sure she even went to Canada???
- at one point, I was rooting for Nxyly to win.
- so not only did they bring back that god awful wig that they actually had the audacity to make footage with it? That thing needs to be snatched and thrown into the sun like the trash monster.
- Katie looked so done in this episode and I don't even blame her. I suffered second hand embarrassment on her behalf. Those lines, her behaviour. It's like what the fuck happened to the Lena from the past 4 seasons?
- the mean bartender says "I've seen you on the news running arm in arm with a bulletproof alien" and the places my mind went is probably why I didn't pay any attention to the rest of the episode.
- so lemme see if I have this right. Lena's mom visits the cave lady in her dreams but never once thought to visit her traumatized little daughter?
- am I supposed to be upset that they killed an abuser? Because I'm not
- so much porn shots of the town car driving up and down some sketch and lonely road
- did Google maps really lead Lena to some random cave?? Bruh
- Lena's scenes felt so disconnected for a minute I thought I was watching a completely different show.
- aluminum foil on the props lord did they just say fuck it and made a Dollarama run for the cheapest 200ft roll they could buy?
- Kara being a mentor to Nia for the first time since that Nia centric episode last season. God I hate it here.
- they do remember J'onn is a shape shifter right? Why do we need an image inducer? I get the little Lena is still with the team crumb but it's stupid.
- still no word on M'gann huh
- yo since the Luthors are technically perceived on Earth-Prime as "good", what trail of bodies is this bar lady talking about? This isn't public knowledge and Lena's mom only killed 1 dude who frankly deserved it.
- sigh. We're really doing this witch Lena thing then.
- kara stop trying to reach the good in people! Just stop. When has this bullshit EVER WORKED? Some people are just too far gone. Accept it.
- stronger together has truly lost meaning on this show
- Alex and Kara being so willing to hold much less use the PZ projector is utter bullshit. Also they just have that thing lying around for any grabby hands to take?
- what the actual fuck is Kara's arc this season? Or Alex? Or poor J'onn. The man has been seriously neglected.
- kara is supposed to be the most powerful being on the planet and yet this show continues to nerf her abilities. God I missed the days of S1 when Kara looked like she could fuck shit up.
- also when is kara going to be the focus of her own show again? Are we ever going to properly address Kara's issues? We got two episodes of James processing his trauma and only 5 mins of flashbacks in 6x08 for Kara and a few fleeting moments sprinkled across the last 5 seasons. Ridiculous. Like it won't diminish her as a character to seek professional help, it won't make her any less of a hero. Think of how impactful that would be and the message that could send about the importance of mental health.
- glad to see a promo for this important episode next week (I honestly can't wait - Kelly in a head wrap is so personal to me y'all) but please I'm begging you, do not make the issue of race come at the expense of kara's intelligence and awareness. She's a journalist, she's seen xenophobia and written about it, she's been friends with James for years. Kara knows about racism. Please show that.
Needless to say I did not enjoy this episode at all. I was happy to see Lena again but all her scenes were just hard to watch. I feel like so much of their very limited time is being wasted and there's still so many things they haven't touched upon yet. When exactly are we gonna get to it? Better question, will we ever get to it? Probably not.
Like I wanted to see the super friends communicating, leaning on each other, character growth, being truly stronger together but no. They're giving us literally anything but that and it's frustrating.
Fractals and Feathers:Pt1
For as long as Damian could remember, his grandfather had grumbled about his wings. The outer color was fitting for the League, a deep pine green with brown eye-markings near the base. The underside, however… Were a soft, baby pink that faded into a grey-white. His soulmate was obviously some civilian girl who had no problems in her life. “It is unbecoming. If you were to ever meet this person, you must end them on sight, salvage some form of dignity.” Ra’s lectured, sneering down at Damian. “If you fail to do this, you will lose the right to have wings at all.” With that threat, Ra’s swept out of the training room, leaving Damian to consider what he must do.
The next five years were spent with Damian training hard, the threat of having his wings removed hanging over his head. He kept an eye out for his soulmate anytime he was out on a mission either with his mother or when he was alone. He was determined to not get his wings ripped from him, no matter what fate wanted for him. This went on until the fateful day his mother took him away from all he knew, and left him with his father. His father’s wings were jet black with small points of pure white like stars on the underside and slate grey with blue and purple markings on the outside. Damian didn’t care about the colors of the other boys’ wings, and ignored the color of his own, choosing to keep them tucked close enough that only the grey edges of the bottoms showed at all. This is why it took him 2 weeks to notice the first cracks.
****
Marinette had always found the dichotomy of her wings interesting. The light, pale pink fading to grey on the back, and the dark pine green on the underside. She thought it was pretty, and just a bit mysterious. Somehow, on hot days the inside of her wings would be just a bit cooler than the rest of her, soothing the heat just enough to be comfortable. On cold days, they gave off the heat of the summer sun, warming her through the cold nights in her attic bedroom. When Marinette got her miraculous, she worried about her wings giving her away, but instead of her pink/grey and green wings, she found that the pink was replaced by bright red with black dots, and the green was changed to black with red dots. Meeting up with Chat, she found him with startling acid-green and black patterned wings. “I guess they want to protect our identities.” He joked, laughing and admiring the pattern. “Let’s not focus on that, Kitty.” She sighed and turned to face Stoneheart. “This is scary enough as is without thinking about if they didn’t hide our wing colors.” “True… Let’s go.” His face turned suddenly serious. “Do you have a plan?” Stoneheart took time to defeat, and Ladybug forgot the Akuma, so they had to clean it up later, but… They were pretty happy with the partners they were starting to become. They started to get to know each other, not revealing identities, but learning everything else about each other. Until one day, Chat brought up something interesting. “Hey, what happens to your wings if something happens to your soulmate?” “Why do you ask, Kitty?” Ladybug paused as she was unpacking the dinner she’d brought with the two of them. “Someone I know, they commented about the color of a person’s wings when we were out together. They said something about how that person had lost their soulmate. Nobody ever said anything to me about the colors changing if we lose them.” He stared at his gloved palms, seeming to not see anything at all. “Why? Did yours change color recently?” Ladybug asked, alarmed. “No! No, they’re the same as always, but… My… My mother disappeared a while ago, and I want to know what to look for and how to know what happened to her if I see my father’s wings change.” He sighed deeply, dropping his head into his hands. “I know I can’t say more because we can’t know who each other are, but I just… I’m so terrified to see them changed one day.” Ladybug wrapped an arm and wing around Chat, pulling him to lean on her shoulder. “Oh Cat. I can tell you, but try to stay positive, okay?” At his nod, she continued. “Your color on the underside of your wings will change if your soulmate dies. If they die of old age, they turn pure white, if they were sick, pure black, if they had an accident, they become silver, if they died a hero or sacrificed themselves for someone, they turn gold, and… If they were killed, they turn blood red.” Ladybug sighed at the end and hugged Chat tighter. “Does your father have any of those colors without any other color or pattern? It’s only plain colors with no other pattern for if the person has died.” Chat took a deep breath, shaking his head, “No, they still look like Mom’s wings as of last I saw them. We… Don’t talk much.” He hugged Ladybug tightly, wrapping his wings around under the one she had put over his shoulders. “Thanks, Bug, I’m glad I know now… At least I know she’s still alive out there. Somewhere.” They finished their dinner, flying a circuit around Paris to make sure all is well before they called it a night. The next few weeks passed, and they kept up with the Akuma Victims, making sure to check in on the victims after each fight. The people of Paris started noticing something odd as this continued though. The Akuma fights, even though all damage was reversed after each one, were affecting their wings and those of their soulmates.
Damian squinted at the small spider-webbing of cracks that glowed gold on the underside of his wings. It reminded him of kintsugi in appearance, subtle cracks that showed gold between the usual colors. “Father, what does this mean? I thought your wings only changed color if your soulmate died?” He finally asked after the number of cracks increased to stretch in geometric patterns across the pink and grey feathers. “I don’t know, I’ve never seen this before.” Bruce frowned, looking closely and waving Tim over to him. “Will you try to find anything you can about this phenomena?” Uncharacteristically serious, Tim nodded and went to work right away, his red and black wings draped over his chair comfortably. Damian turned away before he noticed the colors inside his wings, not wanting to know. A sharp beep alerted him to his phone, and he raised an eyebrow at the photo. “It would seem Kent is having a similar problem.” He showed Tim the photo Jon had sent of his own wings, the blonde and emerald green feathers also showing cracks, in a similar geometric pattern, but in a mix of gold and blood red. “I shall inform him that we are already looking into it.” “Yes, let Jon know that we’re working on it. If his case increases at any point, or anyone else around him experiences it, have him notify us.” Tim called over his shoulder as he continued to work on the program he was making to search with.
***
How long does it take for your wings to change color when your soulmate dies?
Marinette chewed her fingernail as she scrolled through the results, reading a few different reports comparing the reported time of death and when the soulmates’ wings changed color, mostly reported by hospitals in the case of illness or death. “Within two or three minutes. That explains a lot, actually. But then why are they not completely changed, just showing cracks?” “You have dealt with some pretty destructive Akuma recently.” Tikki recalled from her place on her Chosen’s shoulder. “Maybe those only kinda count because they would have been permanent if you hadn’t done the Cure?” “I suppose. Syren was pretty intense, and so many of the people who have the markings were probably people whose loved ones and even they themselves drowned.” Marinette sighed. “I wonder what Mamman and Papa think about all this?” “You could probably ask them… It isn’t so strange to wonder since you can see the cracks in their wings, and in other people’s at school.” Tikki suggested. “Good idea, what would I do without you?” Marinette giggled, patting Tikki’s head and opening the edge of her blazer so Tikki could listen in from there. The bakery was quiet at the moment, so Marinette had little trouble catching a few minutes of her parents’ time. “What do you think about them? I saw Alya and Nino with the markings at school and I’m not sure what they mean.” “Well, I’ve seen them before, but not this much on one person.” Her Papa said carefully, “Your Grandpa Roland had a heart attack not long before your Maman and I got together. Did you notice the black edging to some of Grandma Gina’s feathers?” “I thought she just had black markings.” Marinette answered softly. “On the back of her wings, yes, but his wings are just grey and white with the black tips.” Tom sighed, rubbing his face. “This many cracks… and the mix of colors. It’s very unusual. I can only assume it’s because of the akuma attacks. Which means that either your soulmate is very lucky, or they aren’t in Paris.”
One where Auston cries in front of Amelia for the first time
- One where Auston cries of sadness in front of Amelia for the first time, I don’t know the scenario or what happen but it would be lovely
A.N. Hi so I got two request for this one. I struggled to come up with a reason why Auston would cry so I hope this was good! Also sorry if any of my information about Auston’s family is wrong but I don’t really know much about his family. Hope you like it!
“Babe,” I called out as I pushed my way into Auston’s apartment using the key that he had given me three weeks ago. He had been away on a road trip for the last week and had gotten home late last night. As soon as I was done with work I made my way over to Auston’s. Instead of being greeted by an eager puppy I was greeted by silence.
“Aus you home?” I called out a little louder as I made my way over to the counter so I could set my purse down. I slipped my shoes and coat off before walking further into the apartment and into the living room. When I found it empty I felt myself growing confused. Auston had invited me over and I knew there was no way I made it here before him. Deciding to check his bedroom I walked down the hall and found his door shut. I knocked lightly.
“Auston are you in there?” I asked softly. After waiting a moment and getting no response I pushed the door open gently. When I looked in I immediately saw Felix's head peak up from the bed and Auston curled in a ball next to him running his hand through his fur. I pushed the door open further causing it to let out a loud squeak. Auston tensed up slightly before turning his head to look over at me.
“Hey,” I whispered as I walked into the room. I made my way over to him and sat on the bed next to him. As I got closer to him I knew something was wrong right away.
“What’s going on?” I asked as he laid his head back down next to Felix facing away from me. I ran my hand up and down his back for a moment waiting for him to speak.
“I just,” he started to say but his voice cracked causing him to pause to take a shuddery breath. I felt my heart break at the sound.
“Baby,” I said softly curling up behind him so that I was spooning him. When my arm wrapped around his chest from behind he clutched onto me tightly. He cried softly as I held onto him. I could feel him holding back slightly.
“It’s going to be okay just let it out,” I told him as I tightened my hold on him. Seeing him like this was absolutely breaking my heart. I had never seen Auston fall apart like this.
“Do you want to tell me what happened?” I whispered gently as I pressed my lips to the back of his head. After a moment his crying died down enough for him to be able to talk.
“There's just a lot going on. I-my- everything is going wrong,” he took in a shaky breath as he tried to gather his thoughts together.
“I’m in a goal drought and the media is just coming down on me and Coach is ripping me a new one. I just feel like I’m letting my team down. I was at the grocery store the other day and a fan came up to tell me how disappointed they were in me.”
I let out a small gasp as he ranted on. The fact that someone had the nerve to go up to Auston and be disrespectful to his face just because he wasn't scoring was horrendous. But before I could say anything he kept talking.
“My mom called me and she said my abuela isn't doing well,” he mumbled out. I felt my breath hitch at that. He had mentioned something to me about his Abuela going to the hospital because she had been feeling sick. After that call he hadn't brought her up again.
“Oh Auston I’m so sorry. I wish that there was something I could do to help,” I tried to sooth him. I moved my hand so that  I could play with the tips of his hair. Auston’s cries got louder, so I sat there rubbing his back while he cried it out. Around five minutes later his crying calmed down again and he turned to face me. My heart broke at his tear stained cheeks. I reached out to wipe the tears of his face before moving forward and placing a soft kiss on his cheek.
“Is there anything I can do?” I asked quietly. He shook his head lightly.
“I just feel so bad, I never get to see them because I’m here and now she’s sick and all my family is flying out to spend time with her in the hospital and I can’t,” he mumbled. He cuddled closer to me, shuffling us so that he could put his head on my chest. I ran my hand through his hair as I listened to him.
“I can’t even ask to miss a game and go because I’m in this stupid slump,” he grumbled anger starting to seep in. Felix sat up and moved closer to us so that he could rest his head on Austons legs in an almost protective stance.
“I know that hockey’s been hard right now but you'll score again. I know that and so do your teammates and your coaches. The fans can all shut the fuck up-” he let out a light laugh as I said that. “They are all liars and stupid and your family understands Auston, they always have. I know that you want to be there and it stinks that you can’t but you can be there for them in other ways. You can send flowers, I’m sure your abuela would love that. We can facetime your family when they are at the hospital so you can talk to them,” I soothed running my hand up and down his back. He relaxed completely as he lifted his head from my chest to look up at me.
“Will you call with me?” he asked finally after a long moment of silence. I nodded my head immediately.
“Of course,” I told him softly. A small smile passed his lips before he leaned up to connect our lips in a soft kiss. His mustache tickled causing me to let out a small giggle as I pulled back. He gave me a small smile. He sat up and reached over to his side table for his phone that was charging. He pulled up his contacts and clicked on Alex contact. He paused as he went to hit call.
“Do I look like I’ve been crying?” he asked, turning to face me. I looked his face over. His eyes were slightly swollen. I nodded my head softly.
“A bit babe,” I wrapped my arm around him again so I could pull him closer.
“They won’t mind though Aus,” I soothed, running my hand up and down his arm. He let out a sigh as he pushed himself up and off the bed. He walked into his bathroom to rub his face with some water. Felix followed him as he went. He came out after a minute looking just the same.
“We should go to the kitchen. I don’t want them to see us calling from my bedroom. I don't think my religious mother or Abuela would like that,” Auston murmured as he reached out for my hand. I took his and he pulled me up leading us to the kitchen. Auston grabbed his laptop and set it on the counter. Once we were both seated he facetimed Alex from his laptop. A few moments later the call went through.
“Auston,” Alex cheered as she answered the phone. Her face shifted for a second before her smile widened.
“Amelia! Hi,” I waved as I sent her a shy smile. I had met all of Austons family pretty early on in our relationship. His sisters and mother before we even started dating but I still got slightly nervous when I talked to his sisters.
“Oh did you say Amelia?” I heard before Bre popped into the camera behind Alex. She sent me a wide grin.
“Guys, look, it's Austons better half,” Bre said, speaking to the people out of camera. There was a lot of loud commotion we heard through the phone as it started getting passed around before stopping in Ema’s hands.
“Oh Auston! Amelia! It’s so good to see you guys. You called at a perfect time were with Abuela right now,” Ema said panning the camera to show Auston’s Abuela. She grinned widely as she waved at the camera.
“Oh Auston! I see you on the TV. Your mom says your playings so good. I don’t get the games at the hospital but when we go home I watch.” she ranted as Ema focused the phone on her.
“Aw thank you. I’m glad everyone was able to make it out to you. I wish I could have come,” Auston said.
“Hey don't start Papi you're here right now,” Ema hushed Auston as she gave him a sharp look through the call.
“Abuela this is Amelia,” Auston introduced us wrapping his arm around my shoulders and pulling me in closer to his chest.
“My girlfriend,” he finished. Her face lit up as she took the two of us in.
“Oh Amelia I hear so much about you!” she grinned. She then said something in rapid fire spanish that had everyone laughing as Auston started blushing. I blushed myself not sure what was going on. Austons hand rubbed my back reassuringly as he sent me a grin.
“Okay I get it I talk about her alot,” Auston laughed as he continued to rub my back. This caused me to blush more as everyone off camera started laughing. There was another round of rapid spanish before everyone quieted down.
“Amelia dear how have you been? How's work treating you?” Ema asked. I glanced away from Auston so I could answer.
“I’ve been good and work has been eventful,” I joked with a laugh.
“Good.”
As she went to continue she was cut off by some shouting in the background and then loud laughter. Auston laughed as he shook his head.
“My younger cousins,” he whispered to me. I smiled softly as I glanced down at my phone. I had a text from my boss. I clicked it open, it was a text thread about how my article wasn't going to get published because he was unhappy with my decision to write about anything but the Leafs. I let out a soft sigh as I locked my phone glancing back at the laptop. Auston gave me a look but I shook my head. He was finally starting to fully smile. I wasn't about to ruin that.
“Ema, Auston told me that you guys were planning to come visit after your trip in Mexico,” I said grabbing her attention. Her face lit up as she nodded her head.
“Oh yes yes we're going to come down for the week,” she grinned.
“He mentioned you were taking an Uber to his place when you arrived. I could come get you guys at the airport,” I suggested. I hadn't talked to Auston about this yet but the way that he was beaming at me told me he didn't mind.
“Oh we would love that!” she grinned. Just as I was about to respond I was getting a call from my boss.
“Sorry I’m getting a call from work that I have to answer,” I apologized as I stood up from the stool leaving Auston to chat with his family and Abuela. I sat on the couch as I listened to my boss talk about the article that he was going to need by tomorrow morning. I let out a sigh as I listened to him. Once he was done I agreed to have it turned in before six am tomorrow. I hung up the phone reaching forward to rest my head in my hands.
“Babe,” Auston slipped his arm around my shoulder as he sat next to me on the couch. I glanced up at him shocked.
“What are you doing? Why aren't you on the phone still?” I asked, trying to stand up. He held me in place.
“They had to go, it’s okay it was good to talk to them. It’s just what I needed,” he grinned as he leaned over to press a kiss to my lips. I reached my hand up to tangle into his hair and pulled him closer. The two of us started to make out. He pushed me back so that I was laying on my back on the couch. He hovered over me as he started pressing kisses down my neck, as he reached down to pull my shirt off Felix jumped up on the couch. I let out a loud laugh as he started trying to lick the two of us on our face. Auston let out a loud laugh.
“Felix go away,” Auston said, pushing him back from us. I let out another laugh as I dodged his next kiss.
“Are you feeling better?” I asked, brushing my finger against his cheek. He sent me a sweet smile as he leaned down placing another kiss on my lips.
“You always help me feel better.”
I just caught up to the current episode of 911. Jesus that ending 😭 I’m pretty sure I sat there and stared at the tv for a good five minutes afterwards in shock right along with Buck.
Okay get comfy because this is going to get long. I have a lot of thoughts on  why I think it’s more likely than ever that Buddie will become canon. I’ve seen a lot of fandom talking about why they feel the same and honestly it’s not surprising given the way that shooting scene played out. But I have some other thoughts I haven’t seen talked about yet too.
--
I’ve gone back and forth on whether or not I think Buddie will happen. I want them to get together in canon and I think the show should definitely make it happen and not just because us fans want it to happen either.
Since Eddie arrived the show has continually written Buck and Eddie in a way to say to the audience there’s more going on there. So I don’t think it’s some far fetched idea that so many of us ship them or want to see them end up together. I’ve shipped many characters who I knew were never going to get together in canon but Buddie has always felt different. It’s not just wishful thinking there’s a lot of substance there provided by the writers.
Still more recently I’d kind of lost hope that Buddie was ever going to happen. Throughout season 4 I’ve been wondering if the show was working on pulling Buck and Eddie in different directions. I figured maybe they were just tired of listening to the fans yell about Buddie. I figured it’s why we had been seeing a lot more of Taylor and Ana and why we rarely see Buck and Eddie and Chris spending time together the way we used to in season 3. It had actually been bumming me out a lot because I miss that dynamic in the show.
---
Last night’s episode changed my mind on that though and not just because of the shooting. I was worried at first when I saw that Carla was meeting Ana because I wondered where this was going. Like was the show trying to solidify Ana as a more substantial part of Eddie’s life now? Were they trying to show that she was important enough to start meeting more of the people in Eddie’s life? But I realized after watching that the whole reason Ana was even included in the episode was for Eddie and Carla to have the convo they did.
Eddie and Carla talk about Carla’s dad. Carla says that she was thankful she got to spend time with him (before he died) and she was sorry she left them (Eddie and Chris) Eddie says “you were where you were supposed to be”. When Eddie says that Carla gets this look on her face like she’s considering his words and thinking about the meaning and responds with a line of questioning that gets her to asking Eddie about Ana. Mainly I think because Carla is one of the people who knows Buck and Eddie better than anyone and when Eddie said to her “you were where you were supposed to be” she was likely thinking so how come you’re not where you’re supposed to be with Buck?
Eddie and Carla talk about Chris and how Eddie had been worried about him (after what happened to Shannon) and how happy he is to have Ana around.  Carla presses Eddie about how he feels about Ana and Eddie simply says “it’s easy being with her” (aka he doesn’t have to be emotionally invested). Carla responds and says she’s glad Eddie is moving on but most importantly she tells him “just be sure that you’re following your heart and not Christopher’s”.
The show easily could have framed this whole scene in a different way if they were planning on making Ana and Eddie into a more significant thing. Eddie could have responded and said he was following his heart being with Ana. The show could have shown Eddie watching Ana and Christopher with a sense of ease and love on his face instead he clearly looked like he was thinking about what Carla said and it was obvious he’d been running from the fact he was only with Ana for Christopher.
----
The other thing that made me feel like Buddie is much more of a certainty and the main thing I wanted to write this for since I haven’t seen anyone else really talking about it is what’s going on with the other couples and how that correlates with Buddie.
911 is obviously an ensemble show so some characters and ships will inevitably get more attention than others still there’s usually some that are the consistent main. For example Hen and Karen they’re a great couple but I wouldn’t necessarily call them a main couple of the show. To me the central canon couple of 911 is Athena and Bobby and second to them I think would be Chim and Maddie at least in season 4 where they’ve had a lot of focus given the baby storyline.
I think we’re headed towards both of these couples being on the rocks. Clearly Athena and Bobby are about to go through some stuff. I’m hoping Bobby doesn’t die but no matter what their marriage is in trouble at this moment. As for Maddie and Chim I think it’s likely that they’re headed for a postpartum depression storyline so that will probably spell some trouble for them too.
My point in all of this is if you watch the ending of the recent episode right after the argument between Athena and Bobby we saw the shooting with Buck and Eddie. In the promo for the next episode the majority of what we see is Buck and Eddie juxtaposed with what’s going on with Athena and Bobby and Chim and Maddie.
TV shows particularly drama ones like 911 ebb and flow and there’s usually some kind of balance. If you have one or more of your main couples in the middle of the worst times chances are you’ll see other couples in the best times. So while Athena and Bobby might be unraveling which hopefully is just temporary) in the midst of this shooting Buddie might be coming together or at least closer to getting there. More on that below. 👇
----
I don’t necessarily think that Buddie will just magically get together in the last episode of season 4. Part of me doesn’t even want that to happen. I think it makes much more sense for things with Buddie to happen gradually. Besides which nothing in tv ever wraps up that neat and tidy anyway. Shows like 911 thrive on drama so if Buddie is going to happen there has to be conflict involved before they get to that point.
My guess is that this shooting will push one of them to recognize their feelings for the other and he’ll want to tell the other one but something will stop him. I think it could be Buck. Like maybe while Eddie is recovering Buck talks to Taylor and finally realizes/admits his feelings for Eddie, to which she says something snarky like she knew that already. She pushes him to go tell Eddie the truth but when Buck goes to the hospital he ends up seeing Ana there and decides not to tell him. Maybe in season 5 we have to watch Buck figuring out his sexuality and dealing with his feelings for Eddie while seeing Eddie with someone else.
911 could also surprise us and it could be Eddie who realizes his feelings for Buck. We had that scene with Carla and Eddie and it’s clear that Eddie is only with Ana for Christopher. We had Carla telling Eddie to follow his heart. When you look at the symbolism of what happened during the shooting Eddie’s blood ended up all over Buck which is like a trail to this heart (albeit a morbid one) not to mention Eddie reached out for Buck when he was on the ground. So Eddie could wake up and realize the truth about his feelings for Buck and want to tell him but be afraid to loose his best friend. Or maybe Eddie is afraid to change anything now that Christopher seems happy again finally.
There could also just be a scene with them in the hospital or maybe Buck comes to stay with Eddie and Christopher to help take care of Eddie and and  it’s clear the atmosphere has changed between them. Like we don’t get anything super serious yet but there’s something more there and they both feel it but aren’t acting on it yet. Maybe Buck tells Eddie how he felt when he saw him get shot maybe Eddie tells him he reached for him. Maybe they both realize they couldn’t bare to loose the other.
Everything that’s happened thus far with Buck and Eddie feels like it’s leading towards something. It definitely feels like something is going to change with them heading into season 5. I feel like they’re going to leave us on some kind of cliffhanger and then drag out whatever happens next season. Which makes sense as it incentives more people to watch. But I’m more optimistic than ever that Buddie will happen now.
---
I do agree with what others have said that there’s no place really for the writers to go now than to put Buck and Eddie together even if it doesn’t happen immediately. The shooting scene was completely framed like Buck watched the man he loved get shot and they were even wearing complimenting colors which is something I’ve seen done often in movies and tv for lovers. They were staring at each other and reaching out. I mean how do you explain that if it doesn’t lead anywhere?
Not to mention the whole thing was done in slow motion and the scene didn’t focus on anyone else besides Eddie and Buck for a few minutes. It even had an almost a freeze frame with the two staring at each other across the street and since there was blood and the ambulance the whole scene was lit up bright red. And apart from everything else red is pretty much universally known as the color for love.
Tumblr media
One other thing I forgot to add was that the convo with Eddie and Carla happened in an episode called Suspicion where people are keeping things from the people they love. The mother keeping things from her bridezilla daughter, Bobby and Athena keeping things from each other, Maddie keeping her depression from Chimney, Hen’s mom keeping how sick she was from Hen.
Why would 911 choose this episode in particular to feature all this important Buddie stuff? That important convo with Carla and Eddie where Carla basically tells Eddie she knows he’s not following his heart. That crazy intense moment with the shooting where Buck and Eddie are just staring at each other like soulmates having to watch the person they love die.
Maybe because both Buck and Eddie have things they’re hiding? Things they’re hiding from themselves and things they’re keeping from the person they love the most. Each other.
