🦌 Speaking of his things, he's VERY protective of the plushies and blankets he's given. he doesn't wanna mess anything up!

When he asked for a drink, he knew Alastor didn't drink; when he did, it was in celebration of something. but, as Husker knew it wasn't an important day. He kept his smile, but his face was almost like trying to see through static. and... One smart remark from Husk later towards Alastor and the deer just. broke.

🦌 often asks for his "maman" while regressed, but most of the time he just wants his actual mother, most times Rosie will be called and that's good enough. . . but sometimes that's... not enough. and he'll repeat "maman" for as long as his little heart will let him, it always breaks Rosie's heart just hearing him stifle cries while waiting for his maman to get home.

🦌 speaking of crying; He will get to the point where there's literal tears dripping down his lashes and he won't make a sound. Especially if he sees and or hears a dog? He freezes and just. cries.

🦌 I feel he does that because we KNOW he didn't care for his father, and he would be the type of person to say it was "too feminine to cry" or, "stop crying or I'll beat you till you have a reason to cry"

🦌 I also feel he was. very obviously autistic growing up [even in hell we see some of those traits poke through] but I headcannon him as talking late, so he made up for it by starting a radio show!

🦌 very emotional little thing... Drops his plushie? Tears. Startled his caretakers? Tears. An accident? tears. He spends so much time putting up that facade for the hotel... so the second he's little he's all OVER the place emotionally

🦌 Has Nokotan ‘fallen off’? 🦌

Seeing a few comments around the web where people are saying they’ve gotten bored with My Deer Friend Nokotan.

And I totally get it, everyone’s got the right to like what they like.

But I figured I’d give my two cents real quick.

#1 - I went into watching MDFN kinda knowing it was one of those shows that got super overhyped on 1) the viral dance and 2) the wacky premise.

That being said, it’s still been one of the most fun fandoms I’ve joined in a long while and it’s been fun watching the fandom grow and enjoy the show right from Day 1.

#2 - Is it an all-time favorite or even Top 10 anime for me?

Not really, and that’s okay. I think it’s good in today’s world where everything has to have a Marvel level of “ZOMFG!!!” hype to have something just be ‘good’ and fun.

It’s basically been a fun comfort show for me this summer, where I don’t have to overthink things and can just watch, get a few laughs and cute moments and enjoy.

#3 — What do I like about it?

1) The jokes are *very* light and dry on purpose and that’s totally my kind of humor. It reminds me of other ‘random’ slice-of-life anime like Lucky Star and Nichijou where the best jokes usually get a good “…PFFT—😂” if you know what I mean.

2) I LOVE all the characters. Like Lucky Star and Nichijou, the cute little cast of side characters you start to identify with makes it feel like such a cozy show. The Student Council, the Deer Club, the old lady, the cafe owner, Tsunoda-san. I love em all!

3) The general vibe of the show is cute and cozy too. Yes, Koshitan inevitably suffers every episode and I get how some people really can’t handle that ‘second-hand cringe’, but I find that there’s honestly a lot of heart and kindness in the show too (just look at the Bashame/Anko scene this week! Or Neko offering Koshi snacks and water last ep!)

4) And like I said, I love the fandom around it too! Y’all are so fun to share the love of this show and these characters with and I’ve loved having my posts get a lot of feedback and attention too! DEER CLUB FOREVER!

5) Also, side note, I appreciate that, relatively speaking, there’s not a TON of weirdness and fan service in the show either. Yes, there’s Anko. But compared to something like Dragon Maid, the pervy jokes in Nokotan are for real few and far between as far as anime goes.

#4 — Lastly, I read somewhere where someone lightly doubted that we’d get a Season 2. I really hope we do cause of all the reasons above. I’ve watched and rewatched the episodes this summer as much as any anime I’ve followed this anime season. But unfortunately it does seem sometimes like if a show doesn’t hit that Marvel level of hype I mentioned earlier that it can be a struggle to get another season. That being said, I’ve seen references to ‘the dance’ and deer in general a lot around anime spaces this summer, so I hope the attention and hype around the show convinces them to make a Season 2! ✨🦌✨🦌

So yeah, just wanted to get these thoughts outta my head and into the world! Keep on rockin through these last 2 episodes, Shikas! 🦌✨

And I'm glad you like sending asks; I like reading them as well, even though sometimes I mightn't have time to answer. It's good you got a little treat for yourself, you deserve it.

Anyways, to answer your question.

I think instant forms of communication is wonderful. Without it, after all, we wouldn't have the chance to be running this blog, and I wouldn't be able to meet Ryuzaki. It's also convenient when people want to get in touch with us, and without it, we wouldn't be so developed and safe.

However, it is rather regretful that not a lot of people write letters any longer because of this. Letters are a sincere, heartfelt form of communication, and in my opinion, so much more worth treasuring than messages on a phone screen. Through a handwritten, decorated letter, you can find out so much more about the letter's writer, and I find that a very beautiful thing. I still write letters to my ex-teachers, though not as often as I used to when I was a kid and not yet with a phone. And that's a little sad.

Honestly, both have their pros and cons. But my view is that, at the same time when texting friends and calling family, we could write a simple letter to them, asking about their day, and maybe draw little doodles on it. I'm sure that'll make their day, and maybe also the days after that. :]

👹 You met Eddie when you worked with Steve and Robin at the Family Video, he'd come by to say hello to the two and that's when you met him; instantly, he felt some sort of connection, (he likes to say it was love at first sight), and after meeting you, he came to the Family Video almost twice a week

👹 And everytime he came around, you be at the front desk, you got a bit suspicious that Robin or Steve knew when he'd come over so they put your behind the front desk; but Eddie would lean against the counter, flirt a little, give you his charming smile, and believe it or not, you fell hard

👹 From there, it was like you both were dancing around each other, waiting for the other to make the big move to ask the other out, but during that time, Eddie pulled out all the stops; bringing you sunflowers, new notebooks to write in, stuffed animals, and even new maroon yarn for your knitting, (which you loved)

👹 You were practically being spoiled by the young man, and the moment he gifted you a new set of dice for D&D, you asked him out; and of course, he said yes, and the both of you went out to a nice diner for dinner before going to see Labyrinth in theaters (because he remembered how much you loved fantasy)

👹 Eddie is head over heels, smitten completely, and falls deeper in love whenever you play D&D with him, and he loves how chaotic you can get, (he gets them heart-eyes); you couldn't believe you had someone like Eddie, a brave young man who understood you and made you feel alive, it's ever a dull day when Eddie's around, that's for sure, (you can't get enough of him)

👑 You met Diana when she met Bruce, your boss? It was never really said for sure if he was your boss or not, you helped him out with paperwork, but you felt that you were more of a friend than an assistant; anyway, you met her when Bruce heard about her, (and yes, you knew that Bruce was Batsy), and you were immediately hypnotized

👑 Like why does she have to be walking around all gorgeous like? She is literally a Goddess, like what the hell... In short, you were in love, (she might as well have been aphrodite; Diana, thought you were mighty pretty too, she loves the blonde hair, (she wants to braid it), and it made her realize that she might have a thing for blondes

👑 Well, after a couple of weeks of flirting, lingering touches, and sneaky, (not really), glances, she asked you out on a cute like amusement park date; there, she won you a giant bear stuffed animal, (cause of course she can win those games), and you both shared a kiss on the ferris wheel

👑 Diana, though she knew that you could take care of yourself, always made sure that you were safe before she left to fight villains; you stayed at your shared home, reading your J.R.R. Tolkien and other fantasy books, knitting yourself a new scarf and a matching one for Diana, and even baked something new

👑 Even though Diana sometimes left to fight and save others, you always knew that she loved you, she was very expressive, and you knew she loved you since she loved hearing about your random facts when you conversed; you found her incredibly smart, talented, and felt like you were on Cloud 9 whenever she's near, ("you're whipped," Bruce had once said but that only made you smile)

Charles Xavier:

🧠 You met Charles when you were sitting at a small diner, drinking some good tea and eating a small slice of cheesecake and then they walked through the door; Charles, and his friend Erik, sat across the booth with you and that's when they told you that you were a mutant, just like them

🧠 This surprised you, for one, huh? And two, who were these people, and lastly, why was the one just staring at you so intensely? All these questions had flown through your mind, and as if he had read it, Charles answered all of your questions; he was a mutant, he could read minds, you were a mutant too, and he would be willing to help train you

🧠 You thought about it for a moment, still a bit confused and slightly overwhelmed, you said yes, why wouldn't you? You got to be trained by a very handsome man who lived in a mansion; turns out that you were actually a mutant, you did feel like that was a fib, but you were one, (you could actually harness and manipulate sound and energy, levitate, create forcefields, use telekinesis, and exert major force with the energy, (the same as Vitkor from Umbrella Academy if you wanna see your powers in action))

🧠 You trained with Charles, using the violin, cello, and harp to help enhance your powers, and during this time, you grew close with Charles; Charles, as he taught you for a good couple of months, slowly fell for you, and he fell hard

🧠 By the next Spring, you both became an item, going on little walks, cooking together, reading by the fire together, and so much more; Charles is incredibly fond of how sweet and positive you are, you always brighten his day, and you feel the same, always amazed by the man before you, you both work so well together

Time for this year's first Omegaverse Species Spotlight! This time we are focusing on everything deer and elk! From hybrids, cervitaurs, and to well anything 🦌 lets take a generalized look into their kind with some Omegaverse tinted lens!

(Now because it isn't focusing on any one specific species I find it difficult to tackle in my newer format so if it seems like it's back to being jumbled again well- that's why.)

Lets just start with the heat/rut cycles shall we? Unlike some species that experience their heats/ruts every month, they are an exception to that rule. They all enter it seasonally around fall and yeah it is just as chaotic as you would think it would be. On rare occasions it may happen in the Spring but yeah no for the most part fall time is their go time. Alphas of course partake in battles and will be going antler to antler to impress their shared love interests. However they will also be willing to fight anyone and anything that annoys them during this time so watch out! Especially younger alphas as they still aren't to fight the older ones yet but will certainly take you on if they can. Beta males typically only fight their opponents and see no need like alphas to constantly prove themselves and defend their territories. marquesses and marchionesses much prefer a little gentle tapping and scratching the backs of their mates gently with their antlers and will try to lure them away from the crowd while the others are fighting. That is if they are experiencing a rut this time. If instead it is a heat for both of them they are quite timid and will often go with the first winner of a round of fighting. Omegas are quite picky and will often observe their potential partners fighting for quite some time before deciding a final winner. Sometimes it isn't even about who wins necessarily but who displays the most impressive techniques and heart while fighting. For tyrant omegas, it is absolutely about who wins and they will have many champions as mates at one time. For tyrant betas they actually are the only ones guaranteed to have their cycles in the spring and will simply hide themselves away from the others. Getting ready to bring their fawns into the world by themselves. For tyrant alphas they will often bow their heads and plead for a mate. No shame. No fighting. Just begging.

As for their pups or fawns as they preferably call them, well as usual it varies between genders. The amount of fawns each gender has is actually the same to that of humans. Both the typical and maximums of each. (If you want to know those you can also reference my pinned post.)

Now lets get into scenting. They all have their scent glands around their faces, antlers and legs and will rub those against things and each other to mark it. Alphas often mark themselves, their dens and their territories but strangely enough not their mates. The reason? Due to the dangers and how much more their scent stands out even in comparison to the other genders... they simply can't let their mates be found through them. Their scent is by far the strongest and easiest to track. Now they don't nearly have to worry about that as much as they used to but the protective instincts are still there. Beta males and females don't mark too much but both mark their master bedrooms and their fawns. They want to be able to know where their fawns are at all times while still allowing them to adventure off by themselves. Omegas only mark their nests and always keep their fawns by their side. Hence no need for marking them. Marquesses and marchionesses only mark their fortresses. Of course what scents those have varies which benefits them as they do not want to be found no matter who is seeking them out. The tyrants of course do not have a scent until they enter their heats/ruts unless of course they're a tyrant beta in which case they have no scent whatsoever.

An interesting thing to note for them is that packs are kinda just... Simply optional? They don't have set pack structures and often will only all meet with each other at particular points of the year. Alphas and beta males often feel more of the need to form packs or well herds is their preference. They often form those amongst themselves. What determines their leader isn't whoever is the strongest but who is the eldest. Often taking on the role of watching after the others and tending to them like that of a den mother. The other genders really don't bother with it at all. Sometimes they will join them but that's rare.

Alpha dens typically are up on higher ground and not particularly covered too much. They like being surrounded by skinny trees to shave their antlers with and scent mark but that's really their only requirements. It's good enough. Beta males like to be more hidden and will have a master bedroom that's very similar to that of a beta females except that it will lack more of the softer ground they prefer. Often wanting more dirt than grass. Of course when mated they often take residence in the master bedroom, nest or den of their partner. Beta females always insist on staying in their master bedrooms. Marquesses and marchionesses fortresses are made by them digging up holes underground and staying inside them. The comfort of the cool soil and darkness it provides is great for them. Omegas make their nests in thickets typically and make sure that there's no obvious entry. Tyrants of course forge no such places and will sleep wherever it pleases them.

MC Petting the Ilephtas, Part Two: The Hornies

Here we go lol. The sequel to this amazing post featuring the rest of the Ilephtas I left out of the first one.

The first thing you want to pet: his ears. Don't try and convince me you don't, you're just lying to yourself

They're way too fluffy, they're way too adorable, and whether you know it or not you suddenly find yourself cradling his ears

He definitely jumps, he's not used to people touching him, and flicks his ears out of your hands. You might even see the little bump of his tail shooting up too if you're lucky

You apologize, and normally he would just huff at you and leave you alone, but you look so genuinely sad about it.........you miss the fluff already..........

With a sigh, he relents and says you can pet his ears. Carefully, though, they're sensitive

With a grin you take his ears back in your hands and start rubbing your thumbs over his fur, smoothing it out, just playing with it. He's definitely blushing lol

I've never touched a deer's ears but I think they're somft because yes. I think most of a deer is somft

Speaking of that little tail! It's harder to get to than the rest of his body, but I'm sure you can manage it >:3

If you can't, pat his bum bum. Please. For all of us

But really it's so damn cute you can stare at it all day and make Rime embarrassed lol

And his horns! Sexy horns. I know he already has like one sort of clasp thing with a little diamond charm but. Put some more. Make him pretty

Ooooh drag your fingernails over his horns. I know they're made of the same stuff as your fingernails, but I still think it would feel good

Kiss under his ears. Kiss behind his ears. Kiss on top of his ears. Kiss him

🐮Balsam🐮

He might not seem like the type to be super cuddly but he definitely does like his cuddles. He comes up behind you and wraps his arms around your hips, resting his chin on your head if you're shorter or on your shoulder if you're taller. He's always careful to make sure he doesn't hurt you with his horns

If you rub your face against his horns he will melt

Don't get him horn jewelry though, it freaks him out and he'll shake his head around to try and get them off and he might accidentally hit himself against a wall

Also! Give him a head rub! Man has headaches often and he really loves it when you rub his head

His ears don't move around like everyone else's, but they're still interesting. Sometimes if he's really relaxed, he'll let you trace his ear outline. Boop the point of his ears

I think bull's fur is like, a little rough just by looking at them, but he takes great care to try and make his hair soft. It's thick and soft and fluffy :3

Balsam with his hair down........someone please do that

He doesn't really have anything specific with his tail. It doesn't turn him on, and it's not his favorite thing, and he doesn't hate it when you mess around with him. Really just kind of a neutral ground

He will flick his tail fluff in your face to mess with you tho lol

to answer your first question, light: i relate to deer as an animal because they are so skittish and kind of remind me my own anxiety in the sense of how panicked they so easily become. I also have what people would refer to as "doe eyes". ya know, large brown eyes with huge lashes with which to stare at you unsettlingly. so yes i am deer. i also use antlers in my art to represent my trans-ness/nonbinary-ness as im afab but identify somewhere closer to the middle with some fluctuation.

as for your second point: i kind of separate art and photography even though they are usually lumped together. i do not find it fair to judge things taken from a piece of technology against those created by human hands. photography has its own set of design guidelines that while similar to art, still differ quite a bit.

i went and researched the Dadaism movement a bit and it is quite interesting how absolutely chaotic it is. i like it though. I think it is the definition of "ready made" art serving a purpose. if i go back to my original example of the apple as a piece of art, say you write an artist statement explaining that it is a real apple as a physical metaphor for the rot of humanity as it too starts out beautiful and slowly crumbles and shrivels in time. now is it art? is that what you mean by "the emotions the artist wanted to express"? (genuinely asking, not being persnickety).

thank you for your compliments, light, it was a fun piece to draw. and don't feel pressured to be fast with replies, i know i have gone from writing small messages full of taunts and sarcasm to writing essays on my opinions of the word "art".

i will attach the deer piece at the end, for funsies. keep in mind, it is less well executed than my plant as it was my first self portrait and from december, while my plant is from this month.

L, i do see what you are saying about the whole like questioning "why the hell is there a banana taped to the wall, what does it mean" kind of thing. i suppose in theory, it does further one's thoughts. it's rage-bait in art form. clearly it works as we all have such a strong opinion on it. i would cackle if i saw a urinal in an uptight art show. anecdote time: i was visiting the cleveland museum of art and saw a piece about a man who lost his partner to AIDS (will link at the end). it is quite literally just some lightbulbs on the wall. but it has such an utterly painful and deep meaning. i would never have guessed it from looking at it, i had to read the artist statement because my initial response was a snicker because why the hell is there just a light bulb over there, ya know? so it begs the question of, does it have to have an obvious intent or does it still work even if reading an artists statement is required to understand the piece?

(i saved the video to my watch later for the next time im drawing so i have something interesting to listen to)

also no problem, you arent annoying me at all, this is one of the more thought provoking convos i have had in recent times. it's a pain to find individuals with a willingness to think as deeply as you two. my peers do not generally want to delve into such things except for the one i wrote that poem about, but thats another story for another day.

as for your tone, you are not rude at all, sometimes i worry the same for myself, i am bad with tone, especially through written words. its the probable 'tism i fear.

Well, your self-portraits are very beautiful. The blood (or, at least, I'm assuming it's blood, because of the monochrome painting scheme, which is also a nice touch) does add a level of creepiness to the painting, a kind of eeriness that I rather like. To me, deer are mysterious, almost ethereal creatures, so I love the way you chose to portray yourself as half-deer. And thanks for the explanation; it does make sense (hopefully that doesn't come off as rude, I'm sorry if it does), and I'm glad you feel comfortable enough to share this with us, thank you for that again.

And to answer your question now. This is a hard thing to answer, and I don't think I'm very qualified for it, but I'll just give my opinion and stand on it, and you can decide if you share my viewpoint or would like to contribute a different opinion to us. I guess I would consider it as 'art' in some way...but the problem is there's no way to tell if it's real, if that makes sense. As in, there isn't any real way to tell if the art was born out of the artist's true emotions, or if the artist was just, to use a cruder term, bullshitting. I'm not sure if what I said makes sense, but...if it does, then I hope you understand what I mean. In the end, I suppose I'd still count it as art...

Anyways, on to the piece of art you just shared. I suppose, at first glance, it does look like just a 'ready-made' piece, but there's meaning behind it, which kind of relates to the example you gave about the apple. Is it art even though it requires reading an artist's statement to understand the true meaning behind the piece? My answer to that is yes, because sometimes art is ambiguous anyway, and you need an explanation by the artist themself to understand it deeper, but that doesn't take away any of the emotion it evokes in the reader; if anything, it intensifies the experience. But that's just my opinion. I'd love to hear any different ones you might have so that I can expand my perspective on this topic, since I'm not very well-versed in it...

i apologize for the very late response. no pressure or not, i'd still like to say it anyways. i wanted a moment where i could really sit down and read all the neat discussion, and only now really got the chance.

anyways, the term "rage-bait in art form" is incredibly amusing. but the piece you've shared with the lightbulb definitely brings a lot to think about.. i don't know if what i've read was the original author's note, but it was still very touching. it really does make you wonder if intent is needed at all to make an art piece..

from my point of view, i don't think intent is necessary for an art piece. it can still very well further a conversation without intending to. and it also leads me to another bit i've noticed in art: original intent vs. perceived intent. original intent being the conversation that the artist is actually trying to depict, and the perceived intent being what the audience believes it's meant to depict. there's a million instances in art where the artist's view doesn't align with what the audience picked up on, and it always made me wonder which one should be valued more. if an artist fails to depict the conversation they had in mind, wouldn't that (in an objective sense) make them a bad artist? if art is communication, isn't failed communication a failed art piece? does that miscommunication from artist to audience devalue the piece, and which intent should be valued more? does it even matter? i just think it's nice brain food.

i'm also glad that my tone isn't too terrible. and yours isn't either. so luckily the autism hasn't failed us yet.

i enjoy discussions like this as well. it's always nice getting a peak into another's mind. speaking of which, the portraits. those really are beautiful. it definitely shows why you can relate to deers so much. they're interesting creatures, and you portrayed their eeriness really well.
