WILL YOU PLEASE ANSWER A VERY IMPORTANT LIFE ALTERING QUESTION ā‰ļøā‰ļø
Does dress go spinny?šŸ’ƒ
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Right now, I don't even spinny when I'm totally home alone.Ā  I almost never went to school dances (went to fencing club the night of prom, for example), so... yeah, I'm not a spinner...
While spinning might not be in my playbook, that doesn't mean that it'll be that way forever!Ā  I'm certainly comfortable in who I am socially, but there are aspects of my body that keep me from even desiring to--------------
---
---ok, change of plans here.Ā  Or… change of plans to the change of plans.Ā  Initially I wanted to respond to this question with a drawing of me indeed going spinny...
...but I realized that that didn't feel natural to me, I genuinely don't want to go spinny, at least right now.Ā  So I made the panels above as the answer.Ā  A little bit silly, a little bit self reflective, a little bit hopeful...
The sentence I was typing before the ----------- was going to be something like, "I'm certainly comfortable in who I am socially, but there are aspects of my body that keep me from even desiring to go spinny.ā€
The first half of that sentence felt totally familiar, but then the second half just began to fall out of me.Ā  I didn’t expect it to flow so easily.Ā
Part of my questioning journey as I got into my late teens was that while I definitely wished I was a girl, I was ā€œokā€ with being a boy.Ā  Like, I was bummed that I didn’t get the starting roll I wanted, but it’s not like I couldn’t make being a boy work.Ā  There were plenty of ā€œboyā€ things that I liked, and I just started to own the non-traditionally male things I liked too.Ā  I didn’t hide my interests, I was up front about them.Ā  NFL Football?Ā  Love it.Ā  Computer nerd?Ā  Love that too.Ā  Camera gear junkie?Ā  Yup, also love that.Ā  Getting crazy fit and going to the gym for four hours a day?Ā  Even did that too!
The more I opened up to the fact that I didn’t have to pigeonhole myself into certain ā€œapproved groupingsā€ of interests, the more I was enjoying life.Ā
I didn’t let my gender dictate what I could or couldn’t enjoy, nor would I let myself be embarrassed by the things I enjoyed.Ā  I like the stuff I like and so long as no one is hurting anyone, we should all support each other’s interests, even if we don’t get them.
My decision to start my transition was largely the same.Ā  ā€œI’m a girl inside, so just like me owning everything else I do, let’s own this and start HRT.ā€Ā
Dysphoria was never a driving force for me.Ā  But now, just now, typing out that there are aspects of my body that do keep me from doing certain things, typing it out so effortlessly that I didn’t even realize what I had written and when I had, its significance forced me to stop what I was doing and rethink my position a little.
I decided to transition because I am a girl and want my outside to reflect that… but I guess the dysphoria was there all along and I wasn’t paying attention.Ā  It’s bizarre to have missed so glaringly obvious a feeling that I’ve had my whole life, but here we are.Ā
All because dress go spinny.
Mine still doesn’t right now (nor do I even have a dress), but once it does, I’ll be sure to let you all know.
I’m excited for that day to come.

last words
Spinner's name means "someone/something who spins". In the original Japanese, his name is just the romanization of the English word 'spinner' - ć€Œć‚¹ćƒ”ćƒŠćƒ¼ć€ (supinaa).
When characters in the manga define it, they often use ć€Œē“”ćč€…ć€ (tsumugumono) lit. 'a person who spins'. ć€Œē“”ć€ is the key character here, meaning spin, in the way one spins yarn, or spins a story.
Spinner deliberately choose this name because he wanted to 'spin' Stain's dream into reality.
Tumblr media
Later, when he abandons following Stain to follow Shigaraki, All For One takes notes of his meaning of his name, to tell him that he'll be helping Shigaraki to 'spin' his goal [into reality]. (Viz translates this as "support Shigaraki Tomura in his crusade and do justice to your name... as one who spins this tale.")
Tumblr media
This is appropriate, because during and since the MVA arc, Spinner has been doing everything he can to support Shigaraki's dream of destruction - to achieve their goal of 'that beautiful horizon'. Throughout the third act, Spinner's still trying to spin that dream into being.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And it is their goal - it was Shigaraki who first talked about the 'horizon' in his speech to Ujiko, the speech that affected Spinner so much he started down the path of devotion to Shigaraki; so that Spinner would be the only one out of everyone in the League to see Shigaraki's horizon in Deika (the prettiest thing he has ever seen). Somehow, Shigaraki figures this out, so that much later, when Shigaraki is preparing to decay Mt. Fuji, he dedicates this destruction to Spinner - to "build the horizon... that Spinner's been looking forward to."
But-- Shigaraki fails. Deku stops him, and Shigaraki seemingly dies. He dies without having built that horizon, without having destroying anything.
In Shigaraki's final moments, Deku tells him, "I wanted to stop you. I wanted you to stop yourself. To keep that grief and misery from spreading any further."
In Japanese, when Deku talks about this 'cycle of sadness', he says he wants it to 'stop spinning' - ć€Œē“”ćŒć‚ŒćŖć„ć€ (tsumugarenai). His line uses the same character meaning 'spin' as the one I talked about above - ć€Œē“”ć€
Tumblr media
lit. 'so the sadness won't spin'
Shigaraki listens to Deku's words, and after a moment, says to him:
"If Spinner is alive... tell him Shigaraki Tomura fought to destroy to the bitter end."
I thought before and still think it's Shigaraki leaving some words of comfort for Spinner. He failed to destroy everything, failed to succeed in reaching his goal (which is Spinner's goal, because it's Shigaraki's goal, because it's the goal Shigaraki made for the League); but he did try his hardest. He died trying to achieve their horizon, because until the very end, he was keeping their promise as best as he could.
Maybe, it's also: don't worry about the failure; all the way until the end of his life, Shigaraki Tomura got to chase after his dream, their dream.
Maybe even, when taking all of the context from above and putting it into these last words of Shigaraki's: but it's stopped. Thus, Spinner doesn't have to spin for him anymore. The sadness has stopped spinning. Maybe: If Spinner stops on his own, Heroes won't have to stop him. If he's still alive, he can stay alive.
And see, the Shigaraki that says these words is the 'same' Shigaraki as the one in Spinner's memories of the two of them talking about games together. You can tell by the visuals:
In the panel right before Shigaraki tells Deku to deliver a message, the lock of hair on Shigaraki's face falls below his nose; and the locks of hair that frames his face falls below his chin.
Tumblr media
But in the panel where he gives those very last words, he's wearing a black shirt. His lock of hair on his face does not reach past his nose. The locks of hair framing his face ends at the level of his mouth.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So this is the Shigaraki from Spinner's memories of them being just two gamers. This is the moment they weren't Villains or boss and subordinate; they were just two guys, close in age, (getting along better than Spinner thought, bonding over games and stuff), being friends.
Tumblr media
Shigaraki is giving his last words as Spinner's friend; and they are to tell him, i kept our promise. i chased our dream.

Something about the way Tenko holds his hands open over his knees breaks me. Something about how the League seems to be waiting for him, not judgment on their faces. They expect great things from him, but only because they trust him.
Something about the way they all are watching Tenko falling into pieces, how Spinner is the one who looks sad.
I wonder if Deku saw them too or if it was only Tomura. The thought that little Tenko wanted so badly to be a hero and now Tomura doesn't want anything more than how he wants to be a hero for his people.
The League also reminds me of Hana in this panel

April, 2024 | Shetland lace shawl
Tumblr media
Hi there! It’s been a while. I’ve been kept busy by all my university work…and this shawl.
The shawl is knitted to celebrate the wedding of my friend (now friends, I should say). A wedding is really the perfect excuse for all the heritage crafts and heirloom projects that might seem too serious to gift in other occasions. I did ask the recipient beforehand if she would like it, though, and I was so, so honoured that I got an enthusiastic ā€˜yes’. I’m sure this sentiment is shared by many makers, whatever gift they are making.
Shetland fine openwork, a knitted lace, seems to have emerged with the beginning of the reign of Queen Victoria, who championed and popularised the craft. It was probably spread from the Isle of Unst to other parts of Shetland. What surprised me the most when I first read about it was that Shetland shawls and other lace pieces were largely exported as luxury items and rarely worn by islanders themselves. Women bought yarn from spinners and knitted mostly in their homes. They then took them to local merchants and exchange the finished objects for goods or (commonly after the 1880s) money to supplement the household income. The ā€˜supplement’ nature of this work probably means it was not compensated as much as a job outside the home would be for the same hours and skills. Besides, it was not always easy to spin an even 1-ply yarn at 1600 metres per 100 grams. For a piece of knitting with a large ā€˜plain’ area (i.e. only knit stitches), the unevenness was impossible to hide but could only be discovered after the area was worked. Then the maker had to either frog (unravel) the area or continue with the risk of the whole piece not being able to sell.
Whilst it is very reasonable to point out that Shetland ladies did not usually wear this type of lace (I’ve been to the Scottish Highlands once, in summer, and it was not fine lace weather), I imagine that at least for some, it wasn’t just about making money. Some sort of fulfilment must have been from the satisfaction of having a piece ā€˜properly done’ by continuing and adapting a traditional pattern, technique or material. I think this sort of satisfaction is also why many modern knitters are willing to spend hundreds of hours on lacework.
Intricate handknitted lace items can still be bought today (a quick search on Etsy would show many are form eastern European countries with a long and prominent craft tradition), but many are knitted for friends or family members. It always makes me so happy to see people share the gifts they have made, whether big or small, simple or complex. I joke with my online craft friends that no handmade fibre project can claim to be so unless they have a hair or two woven into it. It is the proof of existence for the maker, who tries to go against the irregular nature of handicrafts and, at the same time, accepts it. It is about wrapping up hours, weeks or months in one’s life, along with the songs they have listened to and the perfume they have worn and the memories they have made, and putting it squarely in someone else’s hands and saying: ā€˜All this, for you.’
Tumblr media
A Wedding Shawl
I have not read anything about there being a standard form of ā€˜wedding shawl’ in the Shetland tradition. However, there is definitely a category of square shawls with similar sizes and a few construction methods. The samples I’ve seen mostly measure 1.5-2m on one side and have three parts: a central panel, four borders and a strip of edging. It is worked flat in garter lace from centre out.
Neither is there a standardised yarn weight. A widely available yarn is the Shetland Supreme Lace Weight 1-ply by Jamieson and Smith, which weighs at 400m/25g. The Queen Ring Shawl examined by Sharon Miller used a yarn at 700m/25g. From my experience, if you want the shawl to be a true ring shawl (i.e. you want to be able to pull the shawl through a ring) at the size of the Queen Ring Shawl (210cm on the side), go for 700m/25g or finer.
I chose a rectangular shawl because I had very limited time, but I did enlarge it because for me, an abundance of fabric does mean an abundance of cozy happiness.
Pattern
Shell Grid and Spider Webs Puzzle, pattern No.19 in the book Shetland Knitting Lace by Toshiyuki Shimada.
The names of the motifs are confusing. One motif (or two highly similar motifs) might just have two different names if they are produced in two different regions. Names do not mean everything, but I’ve had fun trying to match the motifs with names according to this article by Carol Christiansen at the Shetland Museum.
The double yarnovers (YO's) in the diamonds were called Cat's Eye, but perhaps the 'Spider Web' in the pattern name is referring to the three rows of double YO's in the centre panel. It has a really simple but effective edging.
Tumblr media
Yarn
Mermaid Lace, in colourway #naturel, sold by Great British Wool in the Netherlands. This yarn is 75% merino and 25% sea algae silk. ā€˜Sea algae silk’ seems to be a semi-synthetic plant fibre like viscose, with algae involved as part of the raw material. (At this price point I don’t think it has anything to do with sea silk, which is fibre produced by actual shells.) The brand name for the most popular product of its type is probably Seacell.
I bought the yarn, because I had never worked with this fibre before and was curious. What I like: it was a little cheaper than a wool/silk blend and has blocked very well. The whole skein was continuous so I didn’t have to deal with a single yarn joint. What I do not like: it lacks the sheen and smoothness of real silk and doesn’t feel as strong, although it doesn’t shed. In conclusion, I’d rather use a traditional Shetland 1-ply or another natural fibre yarn.
It's also worth mentioning that whilst I prefer to support small businesses, it was disappointing to have received a 93-gram skein when I had ordered 100 grams. It was one of those days between Christmas and the New Year and I somehow did not contact the customer service, but I really should have.
Tumblr media
Needle
2.5mm 80cm circular needles. See modification below.
Modification
This Japanese knitting book follows Japanese sizing for knitting needles. The suggested size was no. 1=2.4mm. I figured that I could use a 2.5mm since I knitted on the tighter side, and in any case it was probably okay to make the lacework a little more open by going up a needle size.
I am not going to give out the pattern, but it is probably necessary to explain the structure of this shawl. The centre is knitted first, and then an edging is knitted onto it by picking up either live stitches or the vertical edge of the centre as you go (see schematic below). The four ā€˜corners’ of the edging have short-row shaping to help it lay flat. I know that traditionally people can achieve this by other methods, but I haven’t tried any of those yet.
I enlarged the pattern by increasing both the width and the length. I casted on 133 stitches instead of 101 for the centre panel and knitted Part B 8.5 times instead of 5.5. The spider web pattern in Part B requires the stitch count to be (something dividable by four) plus two, so I made one central increase before the spider web to get 134 and a central decrease after it to get it back to 133. Due to the openness of the lace, the change of one stitch is not visible.
The enlargement meant I had to recalculate the edging as well, because the number of stitches available for pick-up changed. Originally, at each corner you do two repeats with four short-row shaping each. I did 1.5 repeats following the original placement of short-row shaping in order to make the total number of repeats fit the number of edge stitches on the centre panel.
The pattern says to Kitchener-stitch the last row of the edging to the provisional cast-on. It just didn’t make sense because that would be two rows too much (the Kitchener stitch row plus the provisional cast-on row). To make the number perfectly fit, I knitted only ten rows of the last repeat (there were usually twelve in each repeat). Then I Kitchener-stitched the end to the provisional cast-on, following the lace pattern. I am quite proud of this solution because it is completely invisible.
Somewhere in the pattern it said to purl (looking from the right side). It seemed strange because the rest of the lace was entirely garter. I knitted those stitches and so far I haven’t sensed a ā€˜mistake’.
The pattern originally calls for 45 grams of yarn. I estimated (based on the increase of stitches in the centre panel) to need about 80 grams. I ended up using 86 grams. Besides the inaccuracies in my estimation, it was probably also because I knitted much more loosely than expected as it was difficult to tension the yarn tightly at such a weight. Like I've point out in the Yarn section above, I was lucky not to have needed more than 93 grams.
The original finished size is 53*118cm. I ended up with approximately 70*170cm.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Conclusion
This shawl took about three months of my craft time i.e. one full day every week for three months and many mornings before I had to leave for university. Knitting outside my room just didn’t work because I was a) engaged in some other activities that made it difficult to steady my hands, and b) worried about putting a white shawl on any public surface.
The pattern itself is relatively straightforward. The first difficulty was, of course, to understand the instruction written in Japanese. Google translate was horrible so I had to rely on my knitting experience. Fortunately, much of the text description was also found in graphs and charts. Then I had to get my hands used to the tiny yarn. After that, it was only fiddly when I did the edging, because I had to turn about every twelve stitches, and by that time I was handling a giant cloud of stitches on my lap. It did give me a lot of time to go over my favourite documentaries and films, and the last bit of edging was surprisingly quick!
Traditionally, Shetland shawls could be sent back to the maker for maintenance. I think it only fair for me to offer that too because I don’t want a gift to become a trouble (same as how you do not use non-machine-washable yarn for baby knits).
In general, I am very pleased with this shawl. It does pass the ring test, despite not being a traditional wedding shawl size or thickness. I do have a whole lot of actual Shetland 1-ply in my stash, so I am really looking forward to taking my Queen Ring Shawl project out of hibernation in the near future.

On female rage and mechanical augmentation:
I imagined a cruel emperor who collected girls who caught his eye, girls from his country and every other, to put into his harem of consorts and keep as he pleased, as toys, as ornaments made of cinnabar and sandalwood, silk and peach-flesh. Perhaps one day he picks the wrong girl.
She is beautiful, this woman, like all the others, and young, also like the others; but unlike many of the others, who were weavers and spinners, fishwives and performers, this one helps her aging mother in the art of making carefully crafted machines, little marvels of copper wire and forged arms, from dolls to steam engines to pistolets and more.
The emperor in his preening believes he has saved her from a sorry life of toiling away at the workbench with chipped nails and dirty palms, a commoner’s lot in which no woman could ever be happy. On her first night at the palace she cries and cries, and he says, Don’t snivel; it doesn’t become you; you have everything you want here, do you not? What could possibly be missing? And he yanks her pretty silken hair and laughs when she cries harder.
What he doesn’t know is that she cries not out of fear or sorrow, but rage, white-hot, plain and simple.
Clever girl, she doesn’t tell him so. She schools herself into the picture of the concubine he wants - obedient and demure, sweet and soft, the way she had teased metal in the forge into well-tempered alloy and shaped it into gears and springs and blades and beams. She says to him, Husband dear, I would ask for jewelry, the better to shine for you; I would ask for precious gold thread, for diamond earrings and bronze filigree; I would ask for a heated copper bath in which to soften my skin; I would ask for charcoal with which to darken my eyes for you, cinnabar with which to paint my lips. The emperor laughed at her folly but gave her all these gifts obligingly.
Then she begins her work.
The other women she has befriended, and they teach her well. From Haewon she learns to act, to powder her face and keep up the facade to their husband the emperor; from Jiaqi she learns to roast sulfur out of the cinnabar powder and combine it with the charcoal, and from Ori-hime she learns to spin out the gold thread and weave it into a control matrix that, when laid over her spine like a collar, makes metal move with only a thought, the same way her own arms and legs do. And with her own expertise she turns the copper into hammered panels, the bronze into reinforcing cradles, the diamond into grit for blades that can cut through anything.
By day she thanks them all by shielding them from their husband. When he asks for delicate Haewon, she volunteers; she saves Ori-hime’s clever, careful hands from him by giving him her own instead; Jiaqi she claims to have fallen sick, and offers herself up humbly when he, in his disappointment at the news, needs something to strike.
Her husband calls for her one day; he’s in a terrible mood, and when he’s finished with her the next morning the other ladies carry her sore body back and lay her on the bed and soothe her with tea and wetted cloths. They fuss over the mangled remains of her right hand. But she dashes it all away. Bring me my things, she tells them. Tonight is the night.
So they get Weilin with her expertise in taking apart a body and putting it back together with only a needle and wine and some thread; then they clothe her in a dress most wondrous: shining copper and gold filigree, with jade leaves and carnelian flowers inlaid, and for her lovely face a half-mask of precious gems and steel boning to cover the ugly marks he’s left. Cinnabar for her cheeks and charcoal for her eyes. How could any man resist this vision in a thousand shining colors?
Not the emperor. When she goes to him again in the evening he all but drools.
So enraptured is he that he doesn’t notice when the other consorts shut the door behind her and lock it from the outside, or when the panels of her dress click into place, or when, in the dim light of dusk, the tiny miraculous engine in her back roars to life and sends sparks through the fine mesh of the gold collar, sets her eyes aglow.
But when the sulfur and charcoal in the little compartment hidden in the undone lobes of her right palm is set afire with the click of a steel hammer, when she brings her face close and the mandibles of her jade mask open wide - oh, then he knows.
It is a bloodbath. She emerges covered in charred gobbets of his flesh, and the whole pavilion smells of gunpowder and burning meat. But she herself is pristine, untouched.
Her ladies throw themselves over her and find that her body does not yield. The copper has fused itself into her body, the collar has inlaid itself into her spine; in the heat of the fire she seems to have been reborn in metal wholly, from head to toe. She regards them blankly over the diamond-edged mandibles they have made for her, and they look back, and for all that she is known to them, they cannot help but be a little afraid.
She says, You can go now. It is done.
In the light of the burning palace, the women look at each other; they shake their heads. No, says Jiaqi, we are yours, as surely as we were ever his, and more than that. Where else would we go, now that we’ve overthrown an empire for you, now that you have overthrown an empire for us?
So the girl in metal looks at them and then, after a long, long moment, she says, Then you will be my queens, and we’ll rule together. But why aren’t you afraid of me? Why don’t you run? I am not what I was anymore. I am a blade forged in fire.
Haewon trembles - but then she lifts her chin. She says fiercely, You were always that. We just gave you the means to become it on the outside, too.
Sen-hime agrees, and then so does Weilin. And Jiaqi smiles and steps forward and takes the consort’s hand, gunpowder barrel and all.
She looks tenderly into the bloodstained face and she says, We made you what you wanted to be, and with that you saved us. How could we ever be afraid of that?
And: You are ours, and always will be. And we will always be yours, if you’ll have us.
So she does.
They call her the Mantis Consort, She Who Rules Alone; but that isn’t quite true. She has four loyal wives, after all, and each one of them as much has the throne as she herself does. They say that each man who tries her hand in marriage - or to bring down her walls with arrows and fire - goes the same way: head ground between jade mandibles, body strewn in pieces. And her reign lasts for as long as she lives. For who can vanquish a woman armed with fury and steel alike, and the love of four clever women besides?

Fixing MHA's Ending So It Follows Through With Its Core Themes (And It Basically Fixes Itself)
I don't like retconning at the best of times, but turning what started as essentially a Hope focused narrative into a "realistic" tragedy at the very last second is some wild work.
So I'm gonna do what I do best as a fic writer and fix it!!!!!
The Summary
So, I'm pretty sure all of us were on mostly the same page up until the very last panels of the Shigaraki fight (Having AFO being just "born evil" was probably the start of things not being great, but I'm willing to let that slide because it doesn't really effect the overall function of the story that much). Once that and the epilogue started is where I mostly saw people being like ????????? to a lot of choices, so I'm going to focus on those two sections only.
We're gonna be rewriting:
-The deaths of the Villains + Kurogiri (obvs)
-The overall post-War actions and reactions
-The continued existence of the Commission and the Hero Rankings
-Hawk's fate
-Spinner's fate
-A liiiiitle tweak to Chisaki's fate
-Slight tweaks to the Todorokis
-and finally What to DO with the Villains + Kurogiri now that they're alive
And we'll be starting with...
Toga
Now for a battle that was so beautiful, this really did end up completely falling apart.
I'm not gonna justify every single Villain Rescue I do, but Toga's really comes down to one simple reason for me:
Tumblr media
Her bullies literally wanted her to die as atonement.
You don't...typically make your character's fate agree with their bullies or abusers (otherwise???? why are you explicitly portraying them as bullies and abusers to the audience if you want us to ultimately agree with them?????)
Throughout most of the story prior to this, Hori made it a staple in the show that dying for the cause, hurting yourself for the cause, martyring yourself or otherwise telling someone to kill themselves for the cause is a vile thing to do. So, it makes ZERO sense why he would suddenly retcon this at such a critical moment, especially since he already set the stage for it to be wrong in the first place.
(also does anyone also think it was weird/creepy that Hori LITERALLY has her do this with Twice and she very explicitly says "Don't be stupid I don't have to give all of my blood away"? No? Just me?)
Everything happens the same, she still thinks she's sacrificing herself, "If only, if only", blah blah blah
AND THEN...
Hawks
This is such low-hanging fruit plot-wise it actually feels offensive that it went nowhere
Nothing happens with Hawks. We all say it, fans and non-fans alike. He is wasted potential incarnate. His story is a circle and it so easily did not have to be that way because of one simple writing decision:
Hawks and Toga share a blood type.
Up until now, it really did seem like Hawks learned nothing from Jin's death. The first thing he says when he sees the clones is, "We have to kill them now!" But then, picture him still battered and broken from his fight with AFO, wingless, but there is still SOMETHING he can do to save someone's life.
And he puts the needle in his arm instead, and before she can question it, he tells her Jin would want her to live. He's not gonna make the same mistake twice.
(I also think it'd be nice if he said something like how lucky she is, to really go full circle with the Jin story, but I'm not trying dialogue here lol)
And that leads us to...
Shigaraki (and Kurogiri!)
This is a double feature because with the way I'm doing it, I can't save one without the other.
So, something that happens during this and is super anti-climactic and seemingly pointless is Midoriya losing his hands. He gets em back in like 2 seconds, because Eri gives him a surprise rewind almost immediately after. The actual point of it was just to show the brand new rule that physical damage that happens in the vestige world also happens in the real world, so that killing Shigaraki a few chapters later would still make sense.
We're gonna get rid of that rule entirely and just say that Midoriya does not lose his actual arms in the fight, and psychological damage in a ghost world does not reflect physically in reality (or idk. If you DO want that to happen, then just say the embers of the vestiges protected him one last time or something).
And because he doesn't lose his arms, Eri still has a surprise rewind to use.
But before we get to that, we actually have to save Shigaraki. So, here's the super complicated rescue rewrite I came up with. Ready?
Kicking AFO out of his brain and giving him back full control over his body simply does not kill him.
That's it!!!! That's really all that needed to happen!! It was a very conscious choice to make that kill him! It's actually more work and details to kill Shigaraki than it is to save him!! Hori already went out of his way to say that Nana's vestige protected him so that he wasn't completely swallowed by AFO, just so he could say goodbye before fading away anyway. What if, considering the fact that hatred of Nana is what damned him, love FROM Nana actually just plain ol saves him? Full stop? We come full circle. It would make it a fantastic mirror to the Todoroki fight and solidify the theme that love from your/a family, even a broken one, will save you!!
And then further in the background, Bakugou doesn't randomly kill (?????? Even after reading it again I'm still really confused about how Kurogiri dies. I think this is what happens?????) Kurogiri, and instead starts to lose control like they feared. But then, refusing to give up on him, Aizawa hits him with the now-available Rewind Juice and it finally, finally stabilizes his mind for good.
The day is saved.
And that just leaves...
Touya
Unfortunately my stupid husband can't stop trying to kill himself for 2 seconds despite my best efforts to convince him otherwise, so there's really nothing I can do about the extent of his injuries
However, there's LOTS I can do about the way we're treating said injuries! =D
First of all, because Touya is my favorite, I do wanna allow myself the space to briefly rant about how his entire situation was handled because brother. first of all. It's so incredibly obvious that he was supposed to die on the battlefield with his comrades. That man had no fuckin eyeballs by the end of that fight, bffr. And then it was like Hori remembered the thing about the noodles and was like 'oh shit I better at least wrap that up lol' so he brought him back--eyeballs and TEARDUCTS magically intact btw so naturally the audience with reading comprehension was like 'oh he's healing somehow I guess'--just to get that specific moment on the books (and maybe just to draw Touya in his Batman Who Laughs era because I mean he does look pretty sick in the tank) and then turned around and killed him again. With no explanation what the random functioning tearducts and magical regrowth of eyeballs was about.
Like...my guy, you ain't gotta do all that. Again, it's so much harder and more complicated to kill him than it is to keep him alive. Not to mention he was killed OFF-SCREEN. WE DON'T EVEN GET TO SEE ANY--IF ANY--CONVERSATIONS HE HAS WITH SHOUTO OR HIS FAMILY, WHICH WAS THE WHOLE POINT OF NOT KILLING HIM ON THE BATTLEFIELD. INSTEAD OF THE SEXY SHIRTLESS SERVING-FACE-AT-A-FUNERAL IMAGE OF TOUYA WE COULD'VE SEEN A FLASHBACK OF THEM TALKING AND HIM SMILING AND BEING HAPPY WITH THEM FOR WHATEVER TIME THEY HAD AND THAT STILL WOULD'VE BEEN MORE SATISFYING. Y'KNOW. BECAUSE THAT WAS THE WHOLE FUCKING POINT OF THE TODOROKI PLOTLINE?????????????VSSSBBNM,.;;PUSAAXXGHIIRWDFGG
But anyway.
Fixing Touya's death is really simple. We can do two things, actually.
Work with the deus-ex Ice Quirk a little bit, make the Phoenix Theory canon. Ice heals him, the tank is a giant fridge. Lo and behold, it would explain why he magically healed eyeballs and tearducts. It's an incredibly slow process, but eventually he'd heal enough to be out of the tank and in a normal hospital setting for the rest of his recovery. It also gives him a goal to pursue for the future, I.E learning how to control the new side of his powers and mayybeeee getting interested in studying Quirk Biology in the process šŸ‘€
He simply!!!!!! Doesn't die!!!!!!!!! Out of ALLLLLLL the MHA characters, I would 100% believe you if you told me that Touya Todoroki nevertheless persisted. That's like...his entire character. You don't even need to give me a reason. His entire character up until now has been 'the one that's somehow still alive' to the point that the fucking Dr. Eggman lookin ass mad scientist that brought him back to life in the first place (in WORSE condition) was like 'yeah no idea how he's still here that's scary'. I'm sorry, the entire fucking show I've had to see A. An old man without a face with a back alley ventilator system shoved directly into his stoma that's somehow fine and talking perfectly, and B. Another old man missing his ENTIRE digestive tract for years and is still up and walking around somehow with no G-tube or colostomy bag to be seen, so I think by the power of God and Anime, Touya could probably survive his injuries and it would be within the realm of believability for the show. In fact, it's LESS believable that he stayed alive through all that by spite alone and then when he finally gets offered love and acceptance, that determination and tenacity to stay alive suddenly goes out the window. If anything, it should've made him MORE determined to live.
Sorry I got carried away with that one. But there. Everyone is saved and the core themes are intact.
Now we just have...
The Overall Actions and Reactions Post-War
Gonna sum this up really quickly:
-The cameras never turned off. They're built for Quirk resistance because they're a fucking newscast in a Hero society if their technology broke every time there were heavy Quirk exchanges there would never be any fucking news. Making them conveniently lose footage so none of the civs can see the Villains humanity is just rubbing salt in the wound and serves no narrative purpose in line with pre-established themes. Everyone saw what was recorded, and it helped the Villains' cases for rehabilitation.
-We do not censor out this battle in future history books. Everyone is very familiar with the final fight and the events and circumstances leading up to it. It is not erased from public memory as soon as possible. In fact, it's frequently studied and referenced when making new policies to avoid making the same mistakes. Hori. Wtf.
-We do not reinstate the Hero Rankings in any way shape or form, and Shouto is the biggest voice in dismantling this system. Voila, this is now actually the story of how they all became the greatest Heroes, because they aren't ranked. They're all literally the greatest Heroes, and so will everyone after them.
-This IS actually portrayed in the epilogue, but yes, let's be LESS reliant on Heroes and police and MORE invested in the community!!!!!!! Even more so than what's portrayed!!!!! Take another bit from Spider-Man: Anyone can wear the mask!!!!!! Let's make a world where Heroes have too much time on their hands and not just make more of them, right????????? Remember that????????
-WE DO NOT REINSTATE THE COMMISSION. WE GOT RID OF THEM CORRUPT HOES FOR A REASON!!!!!! NO A CHANGE OF THE GUARD IS NOT ENOUGH TO FIX IT WE'RE NOT 7YRS OLD!!!!! HORI. WTF. The only thing I want them to be in charge of is licensing Heroes. I want these fuckers to be the DMV of the Hero world and that's IT!!!!!!!
Which brings us to...
Hawks' Fate
I don't even fuck with this man like that, but he did not deserve to become CEO of the organization that groomed and abused him since he was a child when all he wanted to do was chase tail and fuck off to a beach somewhere. Considering the fact that he also, like, killed people he shouldn't have, let him retire like Endeavor, please. We're done giving the old guard power and privilege, especially when they explicitly did not and do not want it (and when they did have it, they misused it). The only thing I want this man involved with is Toga's recovery alongside Uraraka. Specifically, I want him paying for it and anything else she might need. Fuck it, you know what, make HIM Endeavor's personal aide instead of Rei!!!! He gets to be a little simp and Endeavor gets a replacement son to fill Natsu's spot. Everyone wins.
(He does deserve that hairline tho. I ain't fixin that.)
So that leaves...
Spinner's Fate
I'm not changing much here, besides the fact that now Shiggy is alive and I think they should be ✨Roommates✨ eventually (and obviously he's gonna be much less riddled with survivor's guilt). I still think he should write that book, but I also think that with his multiple Quirks, he should team up with scientists to understand how Quirks work in the body (and maybe get some of them removed from his).
And next...
Chisaki's Fate
I just think this guy needs to be in the same place as the other Villains, at least for a fraction of the time. Why is he just...out. He was also in that daycare and could definitely use some help before we just let him loose in the streets because he said sorry (Can the League just say sorry then??????????).
I do think afterwards he should get involved with something chemistry related tho, cause those bullets of his came in clutch.
And on that note...
The Todorokis' Fates
And by Todorokis I mean two of them, specifically Rei lol
Yeah, she's not gonna be Endeavor's nurse for the rest of her life lol. That man has more money than God, he can hire an aide like everybody else. In fact, they're not even living together. Do you remember how earlier in the series, he gave them a new house? So they could live away from him and he would be in the old house by himself? I liked that plan. Let's go back to that plan. I'm not gonna go as far as to make them divorce, if they're together they're together, but I think separation is a necessary must at this point because if they MUST stay together, they should at least try dating for once???????? Girl was actually bought like maybe they figure out if they even still like each other at all, or ever did.
(Also, I have to laugh as a motorized wheelchair user that Hori drew her pushing Endeavor all happy and blissfully. Motorized wheelchairs are not meant to be pushed like that lol. They have push features for emergencies and small around-the-house distances of course, but uh, mine's 350 pounds without me in it. It's not usually anyone's first choice.)
But there is one more Todoroki I have a lot to talk about, so that finally brings us to...
What Do We Do With The Villains + Kurogiri Now That They're Alive???????????
We take everything from comic books except what would actually makes sense with the story lol
Surprise!!!!!! We're doing Arkham!!!!!! This is another low-hanging fruit thing that I'm almost a little offended that it wasn't implemented. Obviously Arkham has its problems in the Batman canon that we're gonna try to avoid, but I honestly think Batman villains and the core MHA Villains are pretty similar in their execution in that they are primarily mentally ill victims of society who have done very terrible things, but the audience (and Batman himself) is actively rooting for them to get better over just rotting in jail or being killed. Two-Faced has killed sooooo many people and has relapsed a ton, but I ultimately still want to see him get better because he was Batman's best friend once and a good man, and what happened to him was a tragedy. I think all the Villains deserve a space where they can humanely heal from their issues and gain support, while also being safely separated from society while they're still dangerous to themselves and others.
Oh, but Batman and his endless money bought Arkham. Who do we know who has access to trust fund money, an investment in the mentally ill, and the bonus of a medical background that could fund such a thing?
Ladies and Gentlemen, please put your hands together for...
Natsuo Todoroki!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My mans graduates from college and immediately uses his money as a doctor and his inheritance to open up Rindou Sanctuary, in honor of his mother Rei and named after her favorite flower (I don't think he'd want to give Enji the satisfaction of his last name attached to his greatest achievement). He's head doctor on site and the board, and visits Touya every shift once he's healed enough to be transferred to the facility. He is very invested in his brother's treatment and refuses to lose him again--at least not until they're proper old men.
It is publicly funded by donors and taxes alike, and Enji, naturally, is always the highest donor. Call it reparations.
And there you have it! That's how to fix the epilogue. It took longer to type than think about. I could care less about canon shipping, so y'all can keep that (or not). I'm just here to fix the structural problems that have no reason to be here at this point. As I said, once I redrew lines Hori already set up and just abandoned, it pretty much fixed itself.
Hope you enjoyed it and I hope it eases the grief a little!!!!! They're alive look I fixed it!!!!!! <3
(also feel free to use anything I said in here in your own fix-it fics!!!! Just tag me so I can read them šŸ‘€)

Note
Imo the League of Villains should have never existed from the main story of MHA. They were utterly unbalanced and were so flawed that no attempt of fixing could fix them.
I get where your coming from. I
I honestly believe the LOV really needed was time to grow away from the spotlight.
Think of the LOV as leftover pizza (I know, just stick with me for a minute)
Too long in the microwave/oven/pan and it tastes like hardback, too little and it becomes soggy muddled. There's a very specific way you need to do things and that's by not overthinking it.
Hori kept the microwave on too long and the LOV's potential evaporated.
From what I can tell, MHA worked best when it had a 'Villain of the week's type of thing going on.
This was most prominent and best set up with Stain, Stain's character/arc not only expanded the world of MHA but also brought up deeper questions about Hero society
What's most important here is that Stain didn't overstay his welcome. He rolled in, made every panel count and then went out like a champ. Affecting the protagonist and those around him.
He had an impact that's felt throughout the rest of the series (There is no Internship Arc in Ba Sing Se) not inspite of his short lived presence but because of it.
At some point, Hori lost this concept and the plot went with it.
I think the main problem with the LOV started after Kamino. Before this, every member has solid, or at least tangible ideals.
The Vanguard Action Squad was the LOV at it's most raw, not perfect but functional. They felt like people, when Spinner stops Magne from pursuing Midoriya, it feels real for the world.
Simply put the LOV (much like 1A) worked best as individuals, differing worldviews and all.
So when Hori robbed the LOV of their autonomy by practically wrangling them to Shigaraki, it in turn killed the LOV, because now nothing was individual about them.
If you want an example, how about Magne's death. Her last words are the very last time anyone in the LOV asserts any belief besides Shigaraki's own.
After this the LOV barely give any resistance to Shigaraki's plans no matter how short sighted or convoluted.
Kurogiri is outright sacrificed by the narrative so that Shigaraki finally has to step up.
Shigaraki's reaction to Toga's rage and grief follwing Magne's death can be amounted to: "Trust me bro, we're doing this for us bro, please believe me bro."
It's absurd.
As for being flawed, I'll assume you mean their motives.
What needs to be understood is that the LOV (Pre Kamino) and the PLF (Post Kamino) are not the same characters
Flanderisation is the phenomenon of a characters worst traits being exacerbated over a period of time until said character is unrecognizable from their original self.
This is what Hori did the LOV and he did this intentionally.
At some point he realized that the Villains actually had more of a point than the heroes, this likely occured after the MVA arc when fans began rooting for the LOV.
To counter this Hori sabotaged multiple characters and plots in a desperate attempt to justify his woolies and unfortunately for everyone who's isn't an abuser-stan (Enji and Bakuo). The rest of the cast and world suffered greatly.
What you ended up with are characters so detached from their origins that they might as well not even be the same characters at all.
There's an image somewhere that encapsulates this perfectly, it's a 4 panel comic with two stick figures (one black and one blue). If I ever find it or someone links it I'll be sure to upload it here

I've been thinking a lot lately about how Dabi feels post dance and the Paranormal Liberation War in regards to losing Twice and Compress all in the same day.
Obviously he's ecstatic that he finally got to reveal himself, got to see his father face the consequences of his neglect, and tell the whole world about what a piece of shit the Number One hero is to his own family.
But after those scenes, despite all the recent promotional art of him smiling, he doesn't actually seem happy. In some cases it even seems like he's doing worse mentally.
We missed out on a lot in not getting to see how the remaining League members feel immediately after that battle. We don't even get to see Shigaraki acknowledge losing Twice and Compress, if he even knows what happened to them with AFO trying to take him over.
All we really get are these panels when AFO is breaking other villains out of prisons around Japan. And he and Spinner just look so exhausted.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dabi is clearly upset about losing Twice given his confrontation with Hawks, but after that we don't see him talk about it at all. We do see him with this look when Compress brings up that he believes Twice died, but Dabi doesn't even mention that he was there with him in his final moments.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He just immediately switches gears and decides to focus all of his energy into hunting down Endeavor, kickstarting his plans for revenge much earlier than he expected.
The only other time we see him mention Twice is this moment with Toga (this scene is also the only time we see him smile post reveal and before the war).
Tumblr media
We get even less when it comes to Mr. Compress, even though Dabi seemed the closest to him out of everyone in the League. Nothing gets said at all about him. Compress helps Dabi escape and tucks him away with Spinner before he sacrifices himself for them. But I don't think Dabi knew what Compress was really doing, that he wouldn't be coming back with them.
I also don't think the world had the reaction Dabi was hoping for after releasing his reveal video. Sure some people lost faith, and there was a press conference, but ultimately Endeavor didn't face any consequences. It confirmed what Dabi already knew, that nobody cares and heroes will continue to get away with anything in this society.
After this, in the few scenes he's in before the war, he just has blank stares.
Tumblr media
Or he's annoyed that AFO isn't letting him go after Endeavor immediately.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He doesn't care about taking down the world, or AFO's plans, he's just impatient to kill his father and ultimately himself. Like Shoto said, he's been ready to die from the start. And I think losing the people he was closest to in the League only exacerbated his fatalistic mindset.
With Twice dead, Compress in prison, Shigaraki being possessed, and with what happened to Spinner, it's really just him and Toga left. He doesn't have a reason to really stick around for anyone anymore.
Which just makes me wonder if he blames himself. He's the one who brought Hawks in after all. If it wasn't for that, Twice and Compress might still be around, they might still have their base, their army. They lost everything, and he's partially to blame.
He's been deemed a failure since he was a child, by Endeavor, by AFO after his three-year coma. And then he failed in protecting the League, in judging how much of a threat Hawks actually was. He only brought Hawks in once they had formed the PLF. He thought with numbers behind them Hawks couldn't touch them when/if he turned on them. And he definitely didn't think that Hawks would actually kill anyone. But he was wrong.
In the end, he got exactly what he wanted, but I don't think he ever expected that the League would pay the price for it. Along with everything with his family, he might think that he deserves to die for what happened. For failing the people closest to him one last time.

IT'S NOW LESS THAN A WEEK BEFORE WE GET MASTERMIND!
So here's everything that we know about Mastermind, just as a quick little recap:
It was confirmed at a panel that Vassago will be making an appearance in Mastermind, meaning that there's less than a week before Vassago's debut, who is voiced by Harvey GuillƩn. It was also confirmed at the same panel that Vassago is not a one-off character, and will be appearing 'much more' in season 3.
Tumblr media
According to this bluesky user, at the YC Con Panel, Vivzie stated that there's an 'incredible song' she's really proud of in Mastermind, the episode also has a specific tone to it and that the mentioned tone of the episode is different from the other episodes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally, here are the scenes in the trailer that we haven't seen in the show so far:
The cloaked figures. "We've got you surrounded!"
Tumblr media
The scene where they're trying to escape something. "Get ready for a life on the run gang!"
Tumblr media
The IMP gang being attacked by something, we don't know what this something is at the moment, in the hallway where IMP is located.
Tumblr media
Vassago in a courtroom, presumably something related to a trial of sorts. "Where is Stolas anyway?" "We need to summon him at once!"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Satan reveal - "You're a disgrace."
Tumblr media
Stolas getting attacked by someone. Attacker has been theorized to be either Andrealphus or Paimon.
Tumblr media
Mammon giving someone the middle fingers, also appears to take place inside the courtroom. (I am still obsessed with the finger skateboard and fidget spinner Mammon has in this scene)
Tumblr media
Andrealphus powers up and takes over Stolas' palace.
Tumblr media
Stella discussing something with someone in what looks like Andrealphus' palace.
Tumblr media
Octavia gets to show off her magic in cool visuals, and what is most likely a visual during a song. "You never loved mother and you don't love me. You love him!"
Tumblr media
ngl, I like how we're occasionally being fed little vague crumbs about the episode, it really keeps me looking forward to see what ends up happening in Mastermind, plus the fact that we don't really know much about Mastermind as well right now.

Who was Tomura Shigaraki?
When this chapter came out my mind was still processing the shit show that Izuku/Tomura had been, and I honestly thought that anything that came after that would never improve it. In part I still think the same thing but that doesn't mean that this chapter is still something I can appreciate and sincerely wanted to write.
The chapter itself can be easily summarized in the vision of two perspectives, the first told from a documentary form about the consequences that Tomura and his LoV left on the citizens of Japan and the other Spinner's perspective.
The vision of the citizens is totally empty of empathy towards Tomura, the citizens have their perspective colored by their losses and their anger, from the loss of their home or the death.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lack of empathy in general, considering him scary, someone who no matter how much past he had, it shouldn’t be justified or someone without convictions and only hunger for destruction.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I emphasize the dialogues because those who say them are irrelevant, since they are only citizens. The panel of the lack of convictions is the one that catches my attention the most, because we can see the ignorance of the people, for the external viewer who lived the emergence of the Lov and the war, for them are exactly monsters. Tomura has no convictions because they see the same thing as the hereos at the beginning a manchild, that's what Stain told him at the beginning that he only sought to destroy without reason, that he had no convictions, the same thing Izuku tells him in their talk at the mall, Midoriya tells him that his actions were childish and had no purpose beyond destroying as a childish enjoyment, that even without endorsing Stain's methods he still understood his motives, something that didn’t happen with Tomura. It’s after their talk that he comes out with his convictions and I think that is the point where we leave that more generic vision of manchild and his actions become something serious in the search for an objective, which solidifies in the formation of the LoV.
Likewise, what I’m trying to get at is precisely one of the perspectives that this chapter shows us, citizens don’t see beyond their own losses and feelings and above all things they judge a stranger in whom they’re not positively emotionally involved but only negatively. What this chapter shows is that it’s very easy to dehumanize what is unknown to us, "monster, terrifying, etc." It’s easy not to feel empathy for someone who has only given us negative emotions, even their past will not be justified.
What is interesting is that the documentary and the talk between Midoriya and Spinner are intertwined, we not see the perspective of the finished documentary and then Spinner, but documentary is interrupted by Spinner and it’s where we find someone that talks about Tomura with care and humanity, which the citizens’ reports lack. Also what we see in this chapter is Spinner's breakdown and Izuku's reaction to this, which is correct and helps Spinner to have closure.
For every thought from the citizens we have Spinner showing us that Tomura wasn’t destruction for meaningless childish joy, for every comment about his lack of convictions we have a Spinner who found a way thanks to Tomura's convictions, for every person who is unable to see anything outside of a terrorist, Spinner sees someone who gave him a place, a purpose and treated him as an equal when until then he seemed resigned to his destiny, he sees a friend. We can even see the smallest things that it was that Tomura loved video games.
Although it has been discussed whether the LoV stories justify their actions, the truth is that this chapter shows that even that person who seems monstrous has another identity, Tomura isn’t the symbol of fear for Spinner, but rather his first friend, someone precious, this contrast of perspectives is important because it shows us that there are no blacks and whites but a gray scale.
Having said the above, in addition to the perspectives and the confrontation between them in this chapter, I also want to focus on the emotional aspect, loss and grief. For this I think that the main panel between them is a good introduction.
Tumblr media
The first words that come out of Spinner's mouth are to call Izuku a murderer and Midoriya's with absolute calm, says that he will not deny the fact, again despite my criticism of Horkoshi and that I think he was mediocre in the treatment of Izuku and Tomura, I’m not going to deny that these words have been haunting Izuku since their confrontation and outcome, Spinner may be the one who puts them on the table for the first time, but from the hospital we know that Izuku feels his failure. This is seen again when the only time a UA student, tells him that he’s an inspiration, his thoughts return to Spinner's gaze and he doesn't know what to respond, because he knows that the admiration he receives is due to the outcome with Tomura which is not what he wanted, to be recognized for taking a life.
However, there is also something I must say and that is that during all the final chapters Izuku prioritized the emotions of others over his own, which is why we have no reaction with Spinner. Some blogs I read said that Midoriya's reaction to this chapter had been incorrect, because more emotionality was needed and perhaps a deeper attempt at consolation. However, Midoriya consoled and listened to Spinner's pain and recognized it and above all he didn’t try to justify anything, this differs for example from his reaction to Toga's confession and with Dabi in the first war, with Spinner he takes his pain, listens to it and does not try to justify himself or make him see another perspective but simply remains stable and lets Spinner to be one who feels, the one who cries.
Izuku's consolation to Spinner is not to justify himself, to accept his pain but above all to carry the message, because there are no words that he can add that generate more comfort than those he said, there is nothing else he could say or do that would have given Spinner a minimum sense of peace than knowing that until the end the LoV was Shigaraki's driving force, that he remained firm until the end in keeping his word and that he wanted to be the hero of the villains, wanting to fulfill his promise to Spinner.
Tumblr media
Midoriya's recognition of the league is important, because he doesn’t detract from them but rather recognizes them as a central point of Tomura, that child and then adult who was manipulated in every aspect, at the end of the day he had his own will when he formed the LoV and that is out of AFO's hands. At the end of the day they were his last thought, and this is very similar to what Ochako told Toga when she recognized that she could not replace the LoV as Toga's family, Ochako recognizes them as importance for Toga, and Izuku in turn recognizes this in Tomura and conveys this to Spinner, as Tomura said "Even if I become an empty shell and all my hatred fades away, I still want to be a hero for them".
In the same way he also consoles him in his final words by encouraging the book and says he will never forget Tomura, by recognizing these two things he is telling him that he should tell his vision knowing that he would not be in a good light from his perspective and above all when he assures that he will not forget him, he does not say it because of what he did to him or his friends, but as a response to tell Spinner that Tomura's life had value and that he will not be just one more on a list of villains, because those are Spinner's words, that for heroes like Midoriya he will only become one more name on a list but Izuku says that Tomura will accompany him always, that is why also after those words Spinner loses his defensive posture and allows himself a few words about Shoji.
All of this is about Midoriya, but we still need to touch on what Spinner said from his own perspective. The way he slowly begins to lose control of his emotions and tells himself that he must stop thinking because otherwise the pain would return. The way he talks about Tomura as his hope and his friend, someone who gave him acceptance and who little by little breaks a little more especially because he is not only angry with Izuku but with himself, because he blames himself and his inability to reach his friend when there was still time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Spinner acknowledges that he let everything take its course, that if he had been a little more involved, that even if he had objected to Tomura's plans to merge with AFO, then he could have changed the outcome, Spinner was a bystander, who could have taken action. but he didn't, he feels like he failed his friend because there was a moment where he could have taken a step forward even if it meant confronting Tomura's own plans and then everything seemed impossible to stop to the point that the only thing left to do was move forward and take a quirk from AFO to continue with the plans. Spinner's feelings about both his loss and his own inaction become a central focus and the book becomes his way of ensuring that even a memory of Tomura and the LoV is not forgotten, because perhaps he failed to be there for Tomura. but he will make sure that people know the real Tomura Shigaraki, the one they call without convictions or simply as a monster, he will be in charge of telling who Tomura was, the person who gave him a place of belonging, who played with him and accepted him when he had already given up and couldn't find a place to fit. Maybe that won't change the perspective of citizens in general, but it's better than hundreds of strangers talking about someone they don't know. Ultimately it's the only thing Spinner can do for his friend, that at the end of the day people know that his convictions stood even to the bitter end. I didn't think I was going to write something so long, but honestly this chapter is one of the few things that I liked and I felt that all its aspects deserved an analysis or at least an attempt at analysis. I clarify that I didn’t use the official translation because Manga Plus in my region does not allow me to read a certain number of chapters, but I remember that the original translation does not differ grossly from the chapter to alter the interpretation.

LoV Rehab AU where they actually find out what they like and hobbies and jobs and stuff..
Toga liking photography and exploring the dark alleyways and warehouses where the League used to hide and playing around with sunlight through the broken bottles, rearranging old trash, and using them to create something beautiful.
spinner starting out w/ writing fanfic because i just think he would, before gaining the confidence to publish an original story. yes, the League memoir, but also fantasy and sci-fi and he’s praised for his characters and details. he also definitely attends cons regularly and cries when he’s asked to be a guest at a panel for HIS books
dabi becoming a stage director and probably low-key terrifying the actors but by the time it’s opening day, everything is perfect and at least half the audience is crying. he always knows exactly how to hit them where it hurts. he directed an adaptation of the frankenstein musical, made Victor die, and nearly got sued for copyright violation
magne (who is totally alive) working as a child psychologist to help children who just came out of bad situations. she guides them through their trauma and never forgets a single patient. she has a folder of their drawings and they message her months or years later to thank her. she can’t help but always be reminded of the league
i ran out ideas but like. please. see the vision

What are your favorite Spinner panels? (definitely not just me wanting to ogle him)
My favorite Spinner panels??????? I have so many!!!! He's soooooo cute!!!!!
Tumblr media
I really like one from Chapter 224. I always think of it when I think about how cute Spinner is. It's just him in a panel with everyone else, but he was just drawn so round and cute???????
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love him not having his mask on as well!!!! The left one is from Chapter 115, after Kamino, when the League are scattered and laying low and he looks cool there, with that leather jacket, but also very calm there. What is he thinking??? The right is from Chapter 223. Look at his hair!!!
Tumblr media
He's got such fun expressions too. Here's him being angry in Chapter 220; but also demonstrating his self-deprecating awareness - he readily admits he's empty. Spinner...
And immediately afterwards, he's grabbing Shigaraki to yell in his face. This is iconic to Spinaraki, but it's also one of Spinner's own defining moments - he reveals himself to be desperate for change, for a purpose, for a leader. He's willing to follow Shigaraki if Shigaraki can prove himself. These panels are the true start of My Villain Academia where we begin Shigaraki's journey of coming into himself, for better or worse.
Tumblr media
Iconic!!!
Other great faces:
Tumblr media
THE BLUSH.
Tumblr media
The finger licking.
Tumblr media
The sword-bite.
No face because his headband flies into his face when he's trying to have a serious moment with Toga!
Tumblr media
Which is another fav panel because that's him trying to comfort Toga after Twice's death. Dabi is preoccupied with his Dad, Compress is worried about Toga but was unsure how to handle running off, and here was Spinner, stepping to the task to tell Toga that she wasn't alone, that he trusts her, and that she has to come back to them. 😭
AND I HIT THE IMAGE LIMIT??? Unfair. will reblog with more.
