Cannot overstate how much that spongebob scene that went
Somsone: "spongebob you look like a girl"
Spongebob: "am I a pretty girl?"
Like was such a legit game changer for me as a kid
I remember that family and grownups and other kids at school would tell me in a sort of mean-spirited way "you look/sound/act/dress/talk like a boy" and I'd just be like
"Am I a pretty boy?"
There were other unexpected things that came from that long-term I think but that'sprobably where it started being fun

for anyone too young to know this: watching The Truman Show is a vastly different experience now, compared to how it was before youtube and social media influencers became normal
before it was like, "what a horrifying thing to do to a human being! to take away their autonomy and privacy, all for the sake of profits! to create fake scenarios for them to react to, just to retain viewership! to ruin their happiness just so some corporate entity could harvest money from their very humanity! how could anyone do something so evil?"
and now it's like, "ah, yeah. this is still deeply fucked up, but it's pretty much what every influencer has been doing to their kids for a decade now. probably bad that we've normalized this experience"

literally. when i joined tumblr when i was like, 14, i had no goddamn clue how this site worked. i didn't understand reblogs, and i couldn't figure out how to tag my posts correctly so all my tags got jumbled together "kindalikethis".
but i saw that i could leave replies on people's posts. so, i'd search the name of my fave show/things i liked, and when i saw a post that was neat, i liked and replied to it. and, usually, got replies back (usually from the op). i had whole conversations in the replies of posts. i'd usually follow the poster soon afterwards, and after i noticed the ask box, began to send asks as well.
within a month, despite initially not knowing how to reblog or how the site really worked, i'd made about 10 friends, and had a dash constantly covered in new posts that i enjoyed. around this point i really figured out how reblogs and tags worked, and i was off to the races, dragging in more followers and friends.
all of this, without an algorithm. i never needed one. and neither does any new user.
it might feel disheartening to get not as many responses at first, or for your dash to feel quiet, but you just got to keep trying + learning. don't just give up immediately when your post only gets one note or you go 30 minutes without seeing anything new on your dash. if you wanna have a good time on this site, you gotta make an effort to adapt to it.

do you think Solomon would giggle and laugh when he reads/hears about his shenanigans involving the demons when they go over it in class
Professor: This catastrophe happened when a lord was forced to abdicate his position after being trapped by Solomon the Sorcerer for centuries, unable to return to the Devildom when he needed to.
Solomon: :DD
MC, after history class: Solomon, can you tell me what actually really happened?
Solomon: Honestly, I can't remember. You know how biased some historical accounts can be. Let's leave it at that. Now, do you want to review for tomorrow's Magical Potions test?
HE REMEMBERS. It's just that evading questions ensures he doesn't have to explain himself (and dig up unpleasant memories). He knows he's not a good man and he's done awful things to reach his goals. Call him shady and suspicious all you want but this man's the first person to deal with any threat that humanity faces.

Can we talk about how we definitely don’t give the Magnus Chase books enough credit? Like these books are such a beautiful depiction of coming to terms with grief and finding purpose in new relationships. Magnus’ struggle to accept his mother’s death and his guilt over it culminating in a beautiful moment where he feels her love and presence with and for him in his battle with Surt. The horrific despair he feels whenever someone around him is hurt, literally moving him to tears every time, even when it’s Gunilla, someone who has been actively hunting him. The line about how they are all empty cups, but that they can share each other’s burdens instead of filling themselves with pain. Just the beautiful bonds these characters who have each been isolated in their own way have formed with each other. How each of these characters have every right to be bitter and spiteful as a result of the tragedy in their lives, but choose love and each other at every turn.
