oooo au where babs ends up taking over the suicide squad from waller permanently and how that would effect her relationship with the rest of the birds?
Oooh, this is a fun one. I used this as a reason to finally read the last few issues of Suicide Squad that I'd been saving.
When Amanda Waller decides that she wants to wash her hands of the suicide squad and that it's time to disband it, Oracle approaches her. She thinks that there's still potential in the idea. She still thinks the squad could do some good. Waller says she can have it.
The makeup doesn't stay the same. Some people stay. Others go. Oracle recruits some new faces. Poison Ivy, Count Vertigo, and Captain Boomerang are probably among the ones who leave. Bronze Tiger and Deadshot probably stay. I think Zinda would get recruited fairly quickly. The suicide squad are the sort that could use a good pilot.
Barbara is not like Waller; she keeps her identities separate. Oracle runs the squad as a mysterious figure who knows everything. She relies on her lieutenants and staff to take care of face to face negotiations. Amy Beddoes is a woman in a wheelchair who is a member of the support staff. The old guard know the truth, but eventually as they move on to other things, that is forgotten.
Eventually, she does recruit Black Canary. She needs someone who she can trust and rely on. Someone to keep the more amoral figures she has gathered together in line. What was initially intended for as a single mission turns into a longer partnership as the two strike it off. Barbara appreciated Dinah. Dinah helps her keep from falling to deeply down.
This Barbara does not have the same issues with Helena that she has in canon. She's less tapped in to the Gotham network of heroes and she doesn't have the same moral qualms. That being said, she views Helena the same way that she does many members of the squad: as, well tools is a strong word, but as a piece on the board to move in order to bring about the greater good. Helena still does not appreciate being controlled, though their relationship does smooth out with time.

Finishing out New 52 Birds of Prey I have a whole bunch of thoughts.
Because, despite any superficial appearances to the contrary, this run actually is in conversation with the Dixon and Simone Birds of Prey runs.
Dinah as the leader instead of Barbara (and as far as I can tell, a decision based on giving Dinah a lead book rather than Babs two lead books).
Dinah resigning/stepping down over her ex-husband Kurt is reminiscent of Dinah being removed from BOP essentially for the marriage to Ollie (and then back as soon as that fell apart).
Ra's seducing Dinah (with Lazarus Pit water for *sigh* Kurt, rather than pushing her in a Lazarus Pit to fix her Canary Cry), and the covers of BOP v3 #29-30 definitely having resonance with BOP v1 #32-35 covers.
Can we discuss the two offers of 'Lazarus Pit water'? Because Dinah accepts the first and rejects the second. Which...she took the first and trialled it. But as I pointed out, Dinah also got to swim during BOP v1. So an all out rejection isn't entirely in character. Nor is it out of character of Ra's to offer it to Dinah, given the prior incidences.
(Also there is yet another League of Assassins plot where the climax takes place on a boat. Legacy represent!)
Strix basically being a Cass Cain stand in isn't a surprise to anyone? No? No. Especially as Barbara's relationship with Mary has echoes of the other mentoring relationship (though the age gaps are quite different here)
I liked having Katana on Birds of Prey for a period, even though it's not Tatsu's classic team.
Starling is pretty much mirror image Helena, I feel. Helena was a strained relationship that became close, Starling was a planted spy and betrayed Dinah.
Dinah STILL being terrible at picking guys to date. Never ever ever change, Dinah, I will continue to make faces at all your terrible life choices in terms of guys to sleep with and wait for you to come to your senses.
I still find Basilisk hilarious, btw. "Don't look too closely, we are definitely not Kobra under a different name! We are a completely separate organisation! Truly!" (They're functionally Kobra)
It's always very weird to see Barbara interact with the Suicide Squad not remembering her origin as Oracle. Because...well. In ideal circumstances she goes into high level discussions with Waller to sort out what's happening and stop poaching off each other. But of course, new timeline. Sigh. No Amy Beddoes here. Instead Dinah has a past with Waller (weird reversal).

Early Life
Barbara Gordon was born the daughter of Roger C. Gordon and his wife Thelma in the suburbs of Ohio. Even as a young girl, Barbara wanted nothing more than to be a superhero. She and her best friend, Marcy, would spend endless hours designing superhero costumes and heroic identities for themselves. At this precocious age, the seeds of Barbara's future crime-fighting career began to foment.
When Barbara was 13, her mother and father were tragically killed in an automobile accident. Barbara adjusted as well as she could. After the accident, her uncle, Jim Gordon, adopted the orphaned Barbara. Jim and his wife lived hundreds of miles east in Gotham City, where James worked as the police Captain. Barbara immediately became infatuated with the Gotham City's most legendary phantom of the night – the Batman.
Barbara had become completely obsessed with the Batman and learned everything that she could about him. One evening, she snuck into her father's private home office to discover him engaged in a secret conversation with the Batman. Barbara had no idea that her adoptive father actually worked with the mysterious Dark Knight. Her obsession with the vigilante only intensified.
The following morning, Barbara insisted that James enroll her in martial arts classes. While reluctant at first, he recognized that the daughter of Gotham City's police captain could definitely benefit from some knowledge of self-defense. Barbara excelled in her training and earned her black belt within a short span of time.
As dedicated as she was towards her physical development, Barbara equally committed herself towards her academic achievements. Gifted with a photographic memory, she easily rose through the ranks of Gotham Heights High School and graduated early at the age of sixteen.
That same period, Barbara earned herself a scholarship to Gotham State University. She became one of the University's youngest students, graduating with honors before she was even a legal adult. She became friends with Katarina Armstrong, but that friendship ended when Katarina tripped Barbara on the running track to win a race. They did not speak again for several years.
Barbara continued with her self-defense training, this time learning the art of Jujitsu under a sensei named Dragoncat. To supplement her income, she accepted a position as a research assistant at the Gotham Public Library. Her true dream, however, was to one day work in the field of law enforcement. She asked her father about joining the police academy, but James laughed at her, claiming that she did not even meet the height requirements. She also attempted to enroll at the local FBI office as a field agent, but they dismissed her, citing many of the same reasons.
Tumblr media
Batgirl
A few nights later, Barbara found an opportunity that would ultimately change her life forever. The Gotham City Police Department decided to host the Million Dollar Masquerade Ball at the Bristol Country Club. Dozens of Gotham City's most affluent leading citizens, including the likes of Bruce Wayne, and J. Devlin Davenport, were expected to attend. Barbara sewed a stylish, feminine version of Batman's costume based upon designs that she first conceived as a child. For the most part, she intended on crashing the party as this "Batgirl" merely to spite her father.
When she arrived, however, she found that somebody else had decided to crash the party before her. A costumed criminal named Killer Moth and his cronies raided the country club, grabbing Bruce Wayne as a hostage. It was their intent to rob the charity proceeds as well as extort hundreds of thousands of dollars from Gotham's wealthiest patrons.
Barbara now found herself acting as Batgirl in deed as well as in name. She tackled Killer Moth in the hopes of rescuing Bruce Wayne from his clutches. What she did not realize though, was that Bruce Wayne was actually Batman. He allowed Batgirl to "rescue" him so that he could sneak off to change into his "work" clothes. Returning to the scene with his sidekick, Robin, Batman discovered that Killer Moth had gotten the better of Batgirl. In order to free her from the morass of Killer Moth's silk-spinner gun, they were forced to let the criminals get away. Batman chided Batgirl harshly for her foolish antics and warned her against pursuing such a reckless lifestyle. Hearing such criticism from a man she idolized for so long was a shock for Barbara, but it did not deter her from her chosen path. Despite his disapproval, he sent her batarangs via Dick Grayson, who subtly revealed to her that he was Robin. Barbara was able to solve the case, and shortly after, Batman swore her in an oath and also revealed his identity.
Tumblr media
The Killing Joke
Barbara continued her career as Batgirl for a few years, until it came to an abrupt end when the Joker showed up at her house, shooting and paralyzing her before kidnapping her uncle Jim. Batman rescued Jim Gordon, but 19-year-old Barbara Gordon's career as a costumed crime fighter was over.
Tumblr media
Oracle
Recognizing she could no longer be the kind of superhero she had been, Barbara instead devoted all her time to developing one of the world's most complex and powerful computer systems and set to work accumulating information, renaming herself "Oracle."
Blessed with a photographic memory, Barbara read dozens of the world's top newspapers and magazines daily. She was also constantly gathering information from other, less public sources, such as the CIA mainframe, not to mention the data networks of the FBI, NSA, and Interpol.
Oracle proved an absolutely invaluable resource to the Batman and his allies, as well as countless other superheroes, few of whom know anything about the person behind the name. Oracle was responsible for finding information about the Order of St. Dumas and shared it with Batman.
Tumblr media
Founding the Birds of Prey
Barbara founded the Birds of Prey, a team of female heroes, whom she employs as agents. Her first agent was Power Girl. However, when an early case went awry and several deaths resulted from it, Power Girl blamed Barbara and stopped working with Oracle on a regular basis.
Barbara joined forces with superhero Black Canary. The two – similar in both having lost their original abilities while fighting crime, yet managing to overcome their handicaps – would later meet in person and become best friends. The two formed the nucleus of the Birds of Prey.
The Huntress later joined the team as a full-time agent, as did Lady Blackhawk. Although the personnel on Barbara's team continued to grow and change, Huntress and Lady Blackhawk remained core agents.
During the quarantine of Gotham, Barbara employed various teenagers to be her eyes and ears on the street. One of these young agents was Cassandra Cain; who later saved Jim Gordon's life. Barbara realized that Cassandra was actually one of the world's top martial artists; it was revealed that her father, David Cain, had trained her to be a weapon from infancy. Barbara acceded to Cassandra taking up the Batgirl mantle and became Cassandra's mentor.
Tumblr media
War Games
When the gang war broke out in Gotham City, Batman started using Oracle in a way that made her feel like a "glorified operator" and at the same time, she broke up with Dick Grayson. Some days later, Batman took over the airwaves of Gotham, including Oracle's main system and prevented her from accessing her own information. Though it was a temporary measure, Oracle was further upset with Batman for not sharing his plans with her. However, when Batman's "war games" plan was foiled by Black Mask, Oracle was fast to contact the members of the Batman Family and sent them to Robinson Park to help Batman.
After this, Oracle supervised Robin's activities while he defeated the Ravens, Trickster and Mister Fun. Under Batman's instructions, Oracle hacked into the surveillance cameras of Gotham in search of Spoiler and found her location. Later, Tarantula contacted Oracle asking for help and Oracle reported the current situation to Batman. Oracle sent Batgirl to aid Onyx and a few minutes later, she realized that Black Mask had been gathering all the criminals in Gotham and leading them towards the Gotham Clock Tower; her home and secret headquarters. As the criminals stormed the tower, Oracle prepared a series of traps that stalled them while she tried to call for backup. Black Mask managed to overload the system by taking the power down and found Oracle in the main chamber. Batman arrived at the Clock Tower just in time to prevent Black Mask from hurting Barbara, and then both men engaged in a brutal fight to the death. Barbara couldn't stop them by talking and she activated a self-destruction mechanism to blow the entire place, which would have killed her as well. Batman was forced to stop fighting to save Barbara just as the building collapsed. Once outside, Barbara was carried by the reporter Arturo Rodriguez to a safe place. Barbara's home and headquarters was utterly destroyed, thus she decided that it was time for her to move away from Gotham.
Tumblr media
Metropolis
Having left Gotham, and after a temporary world trip with her team, Barbara relocated to Metropolis. She later became infected with an advanced virus delivered by Brainiac, which caused her to develop cyberpathic powers that allowed her to psychically interact with computer information systems. She lost these abilities, however, after the virus was rendered dormant. Following an operation by Doctor Mid-Nite, she discovered she could move her toes. However, this proved to be a short-lived effect, and Barbara remained paralyzed.
Although Barbara and Dick Grayson re-ignited their romance, Barbara ended the relationship when she felt Dick is being over-protective of her. In truth, the villain Blockbuster was attacking all areas of Dick's life. Barbara and Dick still loved each other and remained in each other's lives; after the destruction of Blüdhaven by The Society, Dick proposed and Barbara accepted.
However, their romance was cut short. Alexander Luthor's master plan to recreate the multiverse relied upon diverting the attention of the world's heroes. Dick was severely injured in the battle for Metropolis, and Barbara stayed by his side as he recovered. When Batman asked Dick to join him in his quest to recreate Batman, Dick was torn because of his engagement to Barbara. Barbara returned the engagement ring because she felt that Dick needed a soul-searching quest as much as his mentor, and understood that she and Dick were not ready for marriage. Dick went with Batman, but left Barbara a note, the ring, and a photograph of them as Robin and Batgirl, promising to come back to her.
Tumblr media
One Year Later
Oracle and her team were still working in Metropolis when Barbara once again began working with Batman, although not on a regular basis like before as she preferred to work primarily with her own agents. Oracle was not immediately aware of Cassandra's retirement as Batgirl, nor her subsequent take-over of the League of Assassins.
Barbara continued to lead the Birds of Prey and expanded the ranks of the operation. Black Canary left the team, having decided to devote herself to raising her adopted daughter, Sin. Huntress remained as the de facto field leader for the team, and Big Barda was brought in as the group's heavy-hitter alongside a larger, rotating roster.
Oracle and her team clashed with Barbara's childhood friend Katarina Armstrong, who had since become a government agent and adopted the alias Spy Smasher, who attempted to take over the Birds of Prey organization. After the completion of a mission in Russia in which the team rescued the resurrected Ice, Barbara challenged Spy Smasher to a hand-to-hand fight: the winner taking the Birds of Prey. Although Barbara won the fight, Spy Smasher reneged on the deal. Every agent Oracle had ever employed, male and female, appeared to provide support. Black Canary led the group and, deploying reason and threats, convinced Spy Smasher that the Birds of Prey could not exist without Oracle in charge. Spy Smasher was forced to admit defeat. Barbara later found Misfit, discovered she was an orphan and adopted her into the Birds of Prey.
Tumblr media
Countdown
Barbara dispatched the Question and Batwoman to capture Trickster and Pied Piper following their role in the murder of the Flash. She struggled to keep the identities of the world's heroes from being stolen and coordinated the response to a global crisis engineered by the Calculator, a villainous hacker and information broker. At the same time, the Legion of Super-Heroes members, Karate Kid and Triplicate Girl, stormed her headquarters, demanding her assistance. Unfortunately, Oracle was busy trying to keep Calculator from hacking her system, and so she attempted to send them away. After defeating the lesser computer hacker, Oracle ran a series of tests on Karate Kid and discovers that he was dying of some unknown illness. She sent him out to locate someone who might be able to help him.
Later, after discovering that Green Arrow had proposed to Black Canary, Oracle tried to talk Dinah out of the marriage, reminding her of all the times that Oliver hurt her. In the end, Dinah stated that her love for Oliver was too deep to just give up. Dinah then asked Oracle to be her maid of honor at the wedding, which Oracle agreed to do. Oracle was later contacted by Catwoman, who asked her for all the information available on Thomas Elliot's bank accounts and Oracle provided the information without hesitation.
Tumblr media
Final Crisis and Battle for the Cowl
When Darkseid gained control of the Anti-Life Equation, he attempted to put the mind-control equation on the Internet. Both Oracle and Mister Terrific made desperate attempts to stop Darkseid, even attempting to shut down the entire Internet. Unfortunately, they both failed and those affected ended up mindless slaves of Darkseid.
Freed from Darkseid's control after the restoration of the Multiverse, she attempted to shut down the criminal "Ünternet" set up by her opposite number, the Calculator, as a Darkseid-free replacement for the regular Internet and still used by tech-savvy criminals. However, the Calculator, preventing her moves, took control of Kilg%re, gaining the ability to thrive in cyberspace by controlling digital and cybernetic avatars, and tracked Oracle down with his newfound powers. Even though Oracle foiled him, she started doubting her abilities and feared she was losing her edge and brilliance, which resulted in her disbanding the Birds of Prey team to do some soul-searching.
After Bruce Wayne's apparent death, Barbara learned of Nightwing's hardships and visited him at his base in New York City, where she managed to break in and upgraded his security systems as a favor. Some time later, on her birthday, Dick took Barbara skydiving.
When Nightwing returned to Gotham, he summoned a group of heroes that would team up to maintain order in the city. Oracle returned to Gotham and resumed her position as the main informant for the Bat-Family, and her first act was the summoning of the Outsiders to Gotham. Later, she reported Arkham Asylum's destruction to Nightwing and also informed him about a mysterious assassin whose M.O. resembled that of Azrael. Oracle's surveillance system spotted this new Azrael and also a new vigilante acting as Batman. Later, she was able to locate Damian Wayne, allowing Nightwing to reach the boy's location.
Having settled in a low-rent apartment, Barbara started searching for the fragments of the Anti-Life Equation and discovered that the Calculator was collecting them, hoping to save his dying daughter Wendy with it. Later, Oracle organized a plan of action when she uncovered a gambling rake by Hugo Strange, which she disabled with help from Batgirl, Huntress, Manhunter, Misfit and Ragman.
Hoping to stop the Calculator from getting the Anti-Life Equation, Oracle traveled to Hong Kong to steal Calculator's data by the means of an advanced supercomputer, but after getting the data, Calculator tracked her signal and almost destroyed her. Oracle returned to Gotham, where she managed to defeat Calculator, curing the Anti-Life Equation's fragments and she vowed to help Wendy, who had become paralyzed just like Barbara.
Tumblr media
Batgirl Rising
Working with Leslie Thompkins, Barbara began to mentor the Calculator's daughter, Wendy, who had become crippled following an attack at the Titans Tower, which took the life of her brother Marvin. It came to Barbara's attention that Cassandra Cain had once again stepped down from the role of Batgirl, having been replaced by Stephanie Brown. Still seeing Stephanie as an impulsive young girl, Barbara tried to talk her out of being Batgirl. When a new recreational drug known as "Thrill" hit the streets of Gotham, Barbara and Stephanie worked together to stop the drug trade which they discovered was being run by Scarecrow and Black Mask. After Stephanie defeated Scarecrow and proved her worth and maturity, Barbara gave Stephanie an unused Batgirl costume that was supposedly designed for Barbara. Barbara also accepted a new job as an assistant professor at Gotham University.
Tumblr media
Blackest Night
When Green Lantern crashed into the Batsignal after a fight with the Black Lantern Martian Manhunter, Barbara and Commissioner Gordon were both present. After sending Green Lantern's intel of the Black Lanterns to every superhero community across the planet, the Gordons found themselves being attacked by the original Dark Knight's deceased rogue gallery members, who were all reanimated by the Black Lantern Corps. Barbara and her father were forced to fight for their lives as they witnessed the Black Lanterns massacring everyone on sight at Gotham Central. During the crisis, Barbara was possessed by Deadman, channeling Barbara's athletic capability to save Commissioner Gordon from the reanimated King Snake and the Trigger Twins. After being rescued by Batman, Robin, and Red Robin, the Gordons and their saviors were later attacked by Batman and Red Robin's parents, the reanimated Graysons and the Drakes. While Grayson and Drake battled the Black Lanterns, Robin took the Gordons to their underground base where Alfred tended to their wounds.
Tumblr media
Return of Bruce Wayne
A new vigilante appeared in Gotham, the Insider, whom Oracle learned of when Batgirl confronted him stealing from WayneTech. Oracle tried to prevent further encounters against him and shortly after this, Barbara was interrogated about Batman by Vicki Vale, who had managed to discover their secret identities.
Barbara avoided giving Vale a straight answer and a few days later she was contacted by Insider, who informed Oracle that many criminals were on the lookout for Vale and her information. Oracle helped Insider rescue Vale from an attack by Penguin's mercenaries and later she discovered that the criminal after Vale was Ra's al Ghul. Oracle organized a few members of the Bat-Family to protect Vicki from the incoming threat of the Seven Men of Death, and during the battle she deduced that Insider was, in fact, Bruce Wayne, who had somehow returned from the dead.
Tumblr media
The Black Mirror
Barbara's cousin and adoptive brother James Gordon, Jr. returned to Gotham after many years. Barbara told her father not to trust him because he was a psychopath. At the time, she was helping Grayson take down a new super-villain called the Dealer. Barbara first started distrusting her brother when he was implicated in the murder of her friend as a child. Oracle investigated the medicine James Jr. used to reduce his psychopathic tendencies, and discovered that he had reversed it to increase them. Commissioner Gordon deduced that his son was using connections with Leslie Thompkins to poison an infant nutrition plant and turn babies into psychopaths. When her step-mother Barbara was attacked with Joker Venom, Batman and the Commissioner went after Joker, while James Jr. kidnapped Oracle. James Jr. tried to murder her in a secluded place, but Batman and the Commissioner stopped him in time after Barbara stabbed him non-fatally through the eye.
Tumblr media
Fun Facts
There have been numerous attempts to fix Oracle's legs so she can walk again.
It has been mentioned that Barbara Gordon can no longer have children after becoming paraplegic.
Barbara says that she was 18 years old when she was Batgirl.
While she was infected with the Brainiac virus she had cyberpathic powers and could psychically interact with computer systems.

A Worthy Challenge
Earth had been subject to a cornucopia of oddities during its history. Secret kingdoms, invasions, and wars had painted a unique tapestry in the multiverse. Dimensions and timelines would fluctuate at a whim by the actions of men who did not know the full scope of their power. It was a history and a world that only he, Doctor Doom, could manage. But in all of his years with dealing with Atlanteans, gamma irradiated monstrosities, gods and demons, this would perhaps be the first time he could see a crisis beginning to form.
The energy readings earliest connection point was in Manhattan. He quickly eliminated that a fool like Richards was already dealing with raw multiversal energy. He had hoped to send his own machines to read it when a unique individual came to Latervia’s border. He claimed to another Captain Marvel, but he did not resemble the Kree soldier or any of his affiliations. The man seemed just as confused and instead of wielding alien technology, the man was knowledgeable in the mystic arts. Still, he used his power for brute force and energy blasts. He may have been strong, but Steven Strange, the man was not.
Having successfully stopped the attack and sending the fraudulent Marvel away, Doom had moved himself to his war room to assess the scope of what was going on. Lined with hyper advanced technology the world could not even fathom, Doom had made sure that his defenses would be top of the line for his nigh impregnable fortress. It was here that he could see the extent of the crisis at hand.
The first of these multiversal energy signs began popping up in Manhattan, then Westchester. Soon the globe had reports of people vanishing and being replaced by foreigners, not noble and vile. After several scans of from his satellites and Doom was able to see the same residue of multiversal energy clinging to these people, such as the Captain he had faced earlier.
“Boris.” Doom called out. His trusted servant came at once, never too far away and relieved that Latveria’s ruler had returned victorious from the intruder. “The city’s defenses must be doubled. We must send a patrol squad and see if our citizens are all accounted for.”
The world was focused on the larger populous. Figures like the Avengers, X-Men, and higher profile individuals would be the first to be noticed. The smaller ones, the citizens of the world and beyond, would be overlooked. If something had managed to penetrate his land’s defenses, to actually steal any Latverian man, woman or child from their homes, Doom would see to it that whoever was responsible would pay dearly.
Boris obeyed, moving quickly to see that Doom’s commands were met. Doom was already working on his plans. The man he had fought used magic in a very foreign way and was powerful. If this was one of several champions this foreign world had to offer, than he would need to arm himself with the best countermeasures. As he surveyed the computer monitors, something flashed for a fraction of a moment. To an untrained eye and mind, it could have been a flicker of the monitor. Doom had neither. With the world erupting into chaos and anomalies cropping up all across the world, it was foolhardy to assume anything was a coincidence. Doom inspected the screen closely. His firewall security appeared to be fine with no detection of any errors. Still…he best be sure.
“Computer, scan for any unauthorized access to our main database.”
“Scanning…” Doom waited, his eyes glued to the monitor. Only a few had access to his personal database, which contained a number of Latervian secrets and plans. He had made sure to encrypt the files and protect the computer security to his exact specifications. Many would covet such information but time and again, Doom had blocked even the supposed best of the Avengers and the Fantastic Four from his database.
“Scan complete. One unauthorized user detected. Shall I expel the user?”
How curious…Someone was sneaking around his files and doing so silently. It quickly eliminated the possibility of someone Doom was familiar with to be doing this. It wasn’t flashy or bombastic enough to have any hint of Stark, Xavier or any of Doom’s other foes. It was more than likely one of the visitors snooping around. Perhaps this would prove interesting and educational.
“Begin to track the signal to its source” Doom stated, regaining his composure. “Quietly of course. We wouldn’t want our guest to know their unwanted quite yet. Create a package to send our curious friend, and be sure to bring their progress up on the main screen. Keep me notified of the trace as well.”
The war room table projector flickered, setting aside the world map that marked all the recent appearances and vanishing. A new globe took its place, hovering and slowly turning as the trace activated. The main monitor was now showing his personal files, all encrypted and monitored. Doom would be alerted when anyone tried to access them and if necessary, halt their progress. However this hacker had not stumbled across any of his traps…
Doom couldn’t help but feel charmed by this fascinating mind. It was very different from what he was used to dealing with.
“Master, the signal is not in Europe.”
Doom said nothing, continuing to watch the screen with morbid curiosity. Each file contained vital information for ruling Latveria. Manufacturing and trade routes, war plans to send his robotic servants and the proud soldiers of Latveria would need them. Even his recent designs on the Doombot models were part of this so he could continue his continued conquest of peace. There were many tantalizing options for this hacker to look over. But what would they choose?
“North America confirmed.”
“Continue to triangulate the signal.” He could see that there was finally some silent activity. Doom watched as the someone was attempting to hack into his machine blueprints and components. The Doombots were there, but so were his more advances such as the modified Time Platform and his Titanium Armor. A host of valuable information was behind these encryptions and not a single tripwire was being undone. Doom was certainly impressed, knowing if he had not been paying attention to the monitors, he likely would not have known this hack was even happening.
“Source of signal located in New Jersey. Continuing to triangulate the signal. The package is ready.”
New Jersey? Doom couldn’t help but feel some modicum of relief, knowing it wasn’t in Manhattan. He continued to watch as tripwire and traps were avoided again and again by this hacker. Their skills were exceptional. It was a pity that they were likely from this other world. They would have been valuable under his guidance.
Surprise hit him when the monitor flickered once again. The file had opened. Project names and blueprints were available to someone other than a Latverian citizen. For a brief moment, Doom wondered if he should cut the feed now. Any second this person saw their plans was a second an enemy of Latveria could undo his glorious conquest.
The games had to come to an end eventually.
“Triangulation complete. Awaiting orders.”
~ ~ ~
Barbara Gordon had to count her blessings, even if she was sucked into another world. The technology was thankfully close to her world’s level. The names on the tech didn’t say Kord or Wayne, usually saying Stark or Hammer. The learning curve was hardly an issue and given enough time, Barbara knew she could handle any monitor and keyboard at her disposal.
Instead of her clocktower, Barbara had to set up a temporary base in the back of “Lee’s Crazy Computers!”, a computer store that was eager to move their wears quickly. After a quick cover story about a local library upstate wanting to buy several computers, local librarian, “Ms. Amy Beddoes” was doing a stress test on the computers and modem before placing an order she had to. In reality, if Barbara wanted to find out what was going on and what world she was in, she was going to use every trick in the book and gather all the information she could. This was the first time she had even been to another world, but Bruce had been on enough multiversal adventures to find two surefire ways to determine the history of the world: the introduction of superheroes and any significant Joker kills.
In place of Superman, Captain America, the Human Torch and Namor were the first superbeings of note. Events already played out different during World War Two when they showed up, but there was no hint of any Gotham City or Joker. She began to compare and contrast, jotting down notes and names. There was no Gotham City, but New York housed several superhero teams and practically stepped on each other. In place of the Justice League, there was a team called the Avengers.
Yet in every search she did, one country and one man kept coming up: the leader of Latveria, Doctor Victor von Doom. According to her search, Doom was a super genius whose accomplishments would make Lex Luthor blush. He was responsible for dozens of crimes but saved due to his diplomatic immunity, magical feats, and his technological prowess. He was astonished and knew what had to be done.
Getting into Latveria’s database was hard enough and even harder to sneak around undetected. The encryptions were top notch and she had used every play in the book to make sure she hadn’t been discovered. With Doom’s schematics at her fingertips, she could look them over, print them out, and go from there. If she could get enough information from Doom’s database, she could either use this as a bargaining chip with the Avengers or perhaps even find a way to barter this information leak to have Doom send her home if the information she had gathered was skewed. Bruce had told her enough times to not always judge the world on the loudest voice.
As Barbara went to scroll down, the monitor glitched. She froze, staring cautiously at the screen. Was the modem taxed from the long distance hack? Tentatively, she clicked the sidebar, only to realize the screen was moving at a snail’s pace. After another second, everything came to a halt. Her heart seized, realizing what this meant. Barbara looked around and reached for the modem line to tear it out of the computer, but it was too late.
The once colorful blue/grey screen went completely black. Three words in green appeared in the middle…and then again a few inches to the left, and again right. It began to replicate itself again and again. Soon the screen was littered with the same three words.
Doom is Absolute.
She’d been found out. Not only was she booted, but Doom had sent her a virus that had fried the modem by clogging it with the message. It certainly spoke to how vain and smart Doom was to destroy a computer with only three words.
Barbara shut off the monitor, glancing around to make sure no one saw what she had done. She had names of projects but that was all. She sighed, shaking her head. Whoever Doom was, it was safe to say he wouldn’t be happy that he had been hacked. She’d need to play it safe until she found a way back home. This world had now had its first encounter with Oracle, and she had just met someone that was her relative match…for now anyways.

[BABS APPRECIATION POSTS DAY 10] 21 days more until Babs' birthday, so I will share 30 my top favorites moment of Babs' journey in DC comics beside the moments that I had already shared on my previous posts. The tenth moment for today I want to talk about Babs' early journey as Oracle. Part 5 of 8: After she left Suicide Squad, Babs appeared in 'The Hacker Files' comic book series. Still using Amy Beddoes as her alias. In this series, Babs was dealing with a theft and pulication of E911 document by a hacker, which led the goverment's intention to dismantle the hacker groups. In her first appearance, Catherine Cobert asked her help after there was some kind of virus that attacked her computer. Her computer was produced by Digitronix company. But, Babs said that programming wasn't her thing, so she decided to contact a hacker named Sue Denim. But, the goverment sent some people from U.S. Secret Service to kidnap her, because the document is on her computer. She was taken to Georgia. Actually, there was someone who was trying to frame all of those hackers by putting the document on their computers. The Hacker tracked down the source and found that the source was in Digitronix company itself. The Hacker decided to rescue Sue himself, but Babs asked Catherine's help to stop him. Then, Babs downloaded a copy of that document from a phrack to investigate it. When she was sleeping, some federal agents burst into her room to arrest her after she downloaded the document. She shooted one of them accidentally, but he wasn't killed. Eventually, she was taken to a federal prison. https://www.instagram.com/p/CEnfi6Rgl63/?igshid=avt6sy5lw4tj

Finished Suicide Squad 1987.
I really enjoyed the way this series wrote Waller. I had fun hating Digger Harkness. I became more attached to Rick Flag than I expected. Bronze Tiger and Vixen were my favourite regular squad members, not that that surprised me.
Barbara really comes into her element here as Amy Beddoes and it feels a little like the ‘what if things had gone differently’ moment for DC, just like Helena Bertinelli and her missing Checkmate run.
What would an Oracle that’s Waller’s right hand who came up against a Huntress in Checkmate have looked like?

For International Women’s Day 2019, I took part in an event by WEN Wales and SpringOut, in ‘Five Women,’ which looked at Cranogwen, Elizabeth Andrews, Lady Rhondda, Elaine Morgan and Betty Campbell, the five who were shortlisted for a statue in Cardiff.
This is what I wrote and read, based on the blog post I posted then about ‘Hidden Heroines’. https://maireddog.tumblr.com/post/182084326125/lgbt-history-a-taboo-in-welsh-history
“This is an edited version of a blog post I wrote titled ‘LGBT+ History - a taboo in Welsh history?’ on my blog Maireddog. Dyma rhan o’r blog ysgrifennais i ar fy blog Maireddog.
Celebrating these five women, and the 100 women put forward by WEN Wales, has been great. But the campaign for the statue in Cardiff becoming a competition was criticised before, with BBC Wales then making it a vote. Sara Huws’ original research was ignored, which showed there wasn’t a statue of a named woman in Cardiff, not all of Wales. But though the BBC said it’d be the first in Wales, the statue would always be in Cardiff. Betty Campbell deservedly won, who was from Cardiff, but her statue won’t be in Butetown, where she had so much influence as the first black headteacher in Wales. I asked then, if she won, would the BBC explore the Black History of Wales, put Betty Campbell in her historical context, or just celebrate her symbolically? Welsh history is behind in gender history and queer history, but there’s a continued erasure of the history of black populations and the other populations of colour in Wales.
Calling the women ‘hidden’ was also a mistake - Deirdre Beddoe called for Welsh women’s history in 1981, which since developed into a gender history - like historians said during LGBT History Month, which was last month, their histories aren’t hidden anymore. It does a disservice to LGBT and women historians to claim that they are in 2019. Merched Mawreddog was the title in Welsh but it wasn’t Menywod Mawreddog (Great Women) or Arwresau (heroines in Welsh).
The issue I highlighted at the time was the hypocrisy of giving attention to ‘hidden’ history but keeping a part of their history hidden. The article and video on Cranogwen covered her experiences as a sailor, teaching, being the first female editor in Wales, but LGBT history was omitted for Cranogwen and Lady Rhondda. Norena Shopland’s research on them in her book on LGBT histories Forbidden Lives was ignored, and so was Jane Aaron’s research on Y Frythones, which showed Cranogwen’s queer influence as editor. They mentioned her Eisteddfod winning poem ‘Y Fodrwy Priodasol’ but not that it was a critique of marriage, or that her poetry to women was her most passionate - ‘Fy Ffrynd’ was written to her partner Jane Thomas, to Fanny Rees, or possibly to another women we don’t know about.
It says something that mainstream Welsh media erases LGBT+ Welsh history in 2019. The response was that they didn’t include personal lives ‘out of respect,’ but Elaine Morgan being married with 3 sons was mentioned. Cranogwen and Lady Rhondda are inspirational to LGBT+ people, to women especially, which is not disrespectful to say. It’s a missed opportunity for Welsh LGBT+ and straight people to learn that heroic, great people were, and are, LGBT+. This is intentionally omitted when it’s not just their personal lives omitted but, for example, that Amy Dillwyn wrote the novel Jill, considered the first Welsh lesbian novel.
I called for these issues, women and intersectionality in Welsh history, to be discussed, and for the Decolonisation of Welsh history - where Welsh history isn’t erased, but, within that, neither is the history of women, people of colour or LGBT+ people.
International Women’s Day events were partly organised during LGBT History Month. LGBT+ and Black History shouldn’t only be considered once a year but they’re a starting point. We should looked even at International Women’s Day and ask whether they’re including these aspects of women’s lives, like this event does, but is all the LGBT+ and Black history included?
Having a sense of your own belonging is vital. That’s the necessity of knowing your own history. We need to make sure that all women have ‘heroic’ representations of themselves - Women of Colour, lesbians, bisexual women, trans women, and so many more. Diolch.”

Bilderberg Group meets just outside of DC as Deep State steps up war on Trump. Here’s the attendee list.
Photo: Public Domain
Top global political and business leaders of the Bilderberg Group will meet just miles from the White House this week, as “Deep State” actions to take down President Donald Trump grow more intense.
“The Bilderberg Group meeting in Chantilly, Virginia, will attract 131 elites on Thursday – from politicians and bankers to business titans and European royalty,” The Daily Mail reports. “They will discuss transatlantic relations, the future of the European Union and ‘a progress report’ on the Trump administration behind closed doors at the four-day meeting.”
It has not been revealed what the “progress report” on Trump means. Chantilly, in suburban D.C., is 30 miles from Washington.
Among those participating in this year’s Bilderberg Group meeting are Trump’s Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross, Trump’s National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster, Trump advisers Peter Thiel and David Petraeus, U.S. Senator Lindsay Graham and Obama CIA Director John Brennan.
The meeting comes as leaks from within the U.S. government’s security community, intended to cripple President Trump, worsen.
“At least 180 federal employees have signed up for a workshop next weekend, where experts will offer advice on workers’ rights and how they can express civil disobedience,” former Clinton administration Labor Secretary Robert Reich gleefully notes.
“Federal workers are in regular consultation with recently departed Obama-era political appointees about what they can do to push back against the new president’s initiatives…,” Reich notes, “…The State Department has emerged as the nexus of opposition to Trump’s refugee policy, in part because it has an official dissent channel where Foreign Service employees can register opposition without fear of reprisals. The channel, formed in 1971, has been used to raise policy objections to the Vietnam War and other conflicts. Several hundred employees signed the dissent cable objecting to Trump’s refugee policy.”

A Piada Mortal:
Lentes no Capuz:
