So I'm working on the Livia nodus hairstyle, because I find it delightfully ridiculous, but also achievable with my hair. There are a few variations on the theme, but it's always bun in the back, silly bump in the front, some kind of curl or twist on the sides, and a braid or section of hair running down the center/part:

And there are slso some portraits that aren't Livia that also have similar styles.
I did it again last weekend, for the first time with a rat under the poof, and I'm mostly happy with how it turned out. These photos are after being outside at the event all day so it's a bit frazzled...

I did cheat a bit and use a modern hair tie to secure the twisted sides into a ponytail in the back because my hair is just too slick to hold onto both halves halves and stitch securely without being able to see it, but the braid is sewn down my part and the bun is sewn in place.
The front section I just style fully wet and use a bunch of hair oil to keep in place.

this is a scrapped scene from Trikaranos & originally it joined a standalone series of comics from Pompey’s point of view, but it got scrapped from THAT set too because I decided they both needed to be weirder and worse and this is kind of vanilla ngl. however I’m still kind of fond of it in some kind of way, and it’s been a second since I’ve posted a comic! also I wanted to draw it. so I did.
for context: Crassus cut his hand open helping Pompey out with something in a previous scene! for more context: the answer to Pompey’s question is a reliable (business/political) partner. that’s about it!

the black family is so pretty because they have aquiline noses, curly hair, and a whole lot of eyebrows. any other interpretation is wrong.

Have you done a post for Qarth? Would love love love to see your thoughts!
I’ve been ignoring this cause I could’ve sworn I have but I looked thru my stuff and I guess I haven’t my bad dawg

Doing drawings bc most of the pictures I can find of actual people are usually just cheap costumes. Anyways I think I firmly take the Ancient Greek stance for Qarth. The clothing that we see during Dany’s time in the city is reminiscent of (at least to me) chitons, peplos, and chlamys from Ancient Greek civilization. Also very similar climate so very similar clothing; drafty and draped. Plus the Qartheen pride themselves on being a cradle of civilization on culture so that’s just another red string connecting the two in my mind so yeah Qarth Westerosi Ancient Greece

I made this one last December when I was listening about the roman punic wars while watching a beautiful sunset from my window and suddenly I thought of doom and prophecy and then this was just sitting here waiting for some colors. So here it is the dreamer herself, Daenys!!

With over 50 sets of ancient tweezers found in just one ancient Roman site in England, it’s fair to say, the Romans were obsessed with keeping their bodies hairless. They were the forerunners of modern trends, says English Heritage.

The Fourth Day of Britannicus
Today I am doing Imperium: Nero.
Tumblr media
What. What did they do to him? I think the general rule of thumb is that when the actor for Britannicus has the five o'clock shadow, he's too old. I do not like this. He does not have the Britannicus energy.
This is supposed to depict someone who can't be older than 13 (I actually don't know how old he is supposed to be here because I didn't watch the entire movie. I merely skimmed it like you would do a book. I remember that earlier in the movie, Messalina was still alive. I seriously hope there was a time-skip and Brit was 13 here, because while this looks much too old for a 13 year old, this looks incredibly too old for someone who can't be older than seven. I'm just going to assume he's 13. But keep in mind that he can be any age younger. I just don't know)
I really don't like this one. When I saw that this was Britannicus, I honestly didn't know whether to laugh or cry (though it seems that Britanncius wasn't the only one to get the short end of the straw. *cough* LongDarkHair!Nero *cough*). No offense to the actor, of course. He just isn't a good actor for Brit. Brit was a child. This is a grown man. I cannot see him as Brit. To me, this is only a symbol to represent him.
And maybe that's the problem with this Britannicus series. It's either "Too old. Not good," or "Young looking. Good," which is kind of boring. Maybe I should look past age for a more interesting analysis. But it's hard!
I'm trying to imagine him as much younger, the age of Britannicus. Do I dislike this simply because of age? Yes. I think Britannicus would look great with that hair and facial features if only the actor was younger.
I guess, to me, the most important part of a depiction of Britannicus is the age. If he looks much too old, I will never be happy. But if he looks the appropriate age, I will be happy and I will be okay with quite a lot of variation.
This is different than how I feel about depictions of Cocktavian, because in that case, I'm extremely picky and will not be happy until he looks exactly the way he looks in my head. To this day, I have not seen a single depiction of Cocktavian I was happy about. I think the closest was an illustration of him from a children's book about ancient Rome. I really liked how he looked, but the thing is... the illustration had dark hair and eyes! Yes, I believe all colors of hair and eyes and skin are beautiful, but in my head, Cocktavian is fucking blond like the sources say.

im gonna be honest i headcannon all the mercs besides spy as at least masculine, this is because im a gay guy and want to sex them all (besides spy, she's weird bc i kin scout)
I mean, they're all portrayed as masculine men canonically. That's not a headcanon. I personally like to let them play with gender a little bit, not necessarily in a non-masculine way but a less heteronormative way. "Fem Medic" you think Medic isn't already a femme queen? You think Medic is giving butch realness?

Aladdin: Hmmm...I wonder... Aladdin: Uncle Sinbad, you have a gray hair! Sinbad: What? Where?! Oh no! Sinbad: I need to invest more into Yamuraiha's hair coloring magic! Aladdin: Uncle Kouen, you have a gray hair! Kouen: ...so? Kouen: (inside) Yes! Finally I'm gaining the wisdom and prestige that Uncle Hakutoku once had! Aladdin: Uncle Muu, you have a gray hair! Muu: What's that?
