Jie jie, what is The Double about?
hahahahahaha i was waiting for someone to ask!! mr r has bailed on me at work again and bossman has the man flu so it's just. me at the office today. working my ass off for partners who are trying to Kill Me™.
what: period cdrama // still airing, we're on ep 13 i believe? // 40 eps, roughly 45 mins each
where: youku (standard disclaimer that i don’t watch with subs so i don’t speak to the quality of eng subs) // i think viki is picking this up?
this is xue fangfei. daughter of a small town magistrate. married a poor scholar for love against the wishes of her dad. this turns out to be a bad, bad, bad decision because he ends up burying her alive in the mountains sometime post-marriage. :)
this all happens in like ep 1, we're just getting started.
xff ends up being rescued by jiang li, who is the prime minister's kinda-sorta-exiled daughter. jl has been stuck in a kinda-sorta-nunnery in the mountains for the past 10 years because of her evil stepmother.
i'll skip past all the other bits because there is a bit of a backstory about what happened to jl, but long story short!! jl dies (kinda-sorta-because of xff). xff decides to get justice for both herself and jl. her plan is:
1. become jiang li
2. go back to the capital
3. ??????
4. profit make everyone pay
this is xiao heng a.k.a. su-guogong (the translation is duke su but it sounds weird to me so i'm going to stick with su-guogong). he chances upon xff while he's trying to catch a criminal.
xff, who is in the process of executing her Escape Plan, decides eh, any way to escape will do and lets s-gg arrest her to take her back to the capital for interrogation.
(yes, this is wang xingyue who played zhang zhe in kunning palace. yes he looks a++++++ in this show. i am obsessed.)
side bar, counsels, for a bit of very important information -
su-guogong recognises xue fangfei!! he knows 100% that she is not jiang li and that she is going to cause some chaos. he is Committed™ to watching this drama play out.
ANYWAY. this is the loose premise of the show. it's been fun to watch, and i'm enjoying this a lot!! why should you watch the show?
wang xingyue looks so good in this!! the fans? the capes?? i am obsessed!! everyone in the costumes department deserves a raise.
the story moves quickly and doesn't really drag on. so far, it's been nothing complicated and interesting to watch - i wouldn't say this is a plot-heavy show, just a v good 宅斗 for now, but i'm only like 10 eps in.
the torture my ex-husband who murdered me by showing up in front of him and saying all the right things to remind him of me and the fact that he killed me is so good - normally when this happens, the person looks nothing like their former self, but!! xff's looks haven't changed!! so she's just out here going - hi i am jiang li now and oh btw do you know how cold it is in the mountains where you killed me :)
look i'm......intrigued by this whole shen yurong (ex-husband) and the zhang-gongzhu storyline. i want to see how this whole thing plays out!!

A Slightly too long / in depth documentation and analysis of the unofficial Dan and Phil colouring book by shout magazine
Alright buckle up chuckle fucks because this book is simultaneously a very nostalgic and strange time capsule of how the public saw them.
We start off with the book cover, showing up what's in store, from the credits, most of the pictures that you see are from their Instagram because of copyright or something so you probably won't find anything original.
OK so, first colouring page I can't even look at directly because the faces freak me the fuck out, It's genuinely so creepy, and they have made no effort to stylize them, only just add some quirky text bubbles and background patterns.
Next page is a full spread of them which looks slightly better, from the wellies they're wearing this might be a still from when they were at a BBC radio festival, overall better but still souless.
For the third page we have a Tyler Oakley cameo and our first non colouring activity. This actually made me cackle so fucking hard because the thing is basically asking you to write your own self insert YouTuber quiz role-play. Iconic. As for the art, what can I say, they look like soy jacks.
Nothing to say other than the word 'tops' only bar gave me a good chortle.
OK. This fucking page. The art is fine Phil kinda looks like a piece of crumpled paper, but the real weird shit is the would you rather because this is ODD
Most of it is fine, but, I REALLY FUCKING HOPE THAT THE HAMSTER THING IS ABOUT PHIL'S CHILDHOOD HAMSTER BREEDING. JESUS. Also, some of these have nothing to do with them? wym nandos?? With the sock's thing too... Generally icky page.
Moving on, we see the writer struggling to find stuff to talk about, so they just tell the audience to just put something here that reminds you of them. Eh?? OK I guess
Their eyes. Wow. And a crossword puzzle, cute.
ok next pages I don't really have much to say about, they're fine
The ick that this page gave me hurt my soul
and that's it, I love documenting history.

so I was reading your post explaining the demons kinks (thank you for that, there were some I didn't know and I really didn't want to search in case I saw something I wasn't ready for 😭) and I wonder if they made the kings kinks more tame bc they want the main characters to appeal to more people? most people probably know what they're getting into when they download the game, but i can imagine some people would be seriously turned off by a character if they had a kink they really weren't into. personally, I hope the next kings have some not so common ones, just to spice it up, but I can totally see if that's why the devs decided to keep them on the more common ones. they need them to be marketable lol
Yea I noticed it too!
I think they made the kings' kinks on the more tame side because they are making cards just for the kings. And if you had multiple L cards for someone with a kink that would be contrivertial or just very uncomftrable for the reader (looking at you Orias and Glasyal) people woudn't spend as much trying to get them.
Plus it kinda helps making diffrent genres of sex scenes when the character's main kink is something more normal and you can just sneak it in but keep the main spice of the story stand out.
That's why I think PB won't give Belphie somnophilia. Because it's hard to include every time they give him a card.
We still have hope though. His and Asmo's kinks aren't out yet after all. But we should expect something on a more normal side.(Whatever is considered normal in this game.)
Oh! Actually that reminds me of Lucifer. He's into tears but in both of his stories he just seems like a dom. A bit more dom than all the other kings at least.
Maybe they could give Belphie somnophilia but keep his sex scenes on a comfy side. Like make him be more romantic and softie during sex.
As for Asmo...eh...Honestly,I am very curious on how they will do Asmodeus. How do you keep a king of lust's sex scenes fresh? Bdsm?

Thinking of an immortal Amos but with Yae vibes. She's bored. She's disconnected. Her lover doesn't get her. She loves him. She wanders the tower while he's locks himself away occupied, and when she sees him he gives gifts upon gifts but never reacts to her thoughts and wants.
She's been alive for too long. Everyone she knows and loves growing up is dead. New people born and die. No one knows her. She's the human lover of the tyrant who does nothing against the tyrant. When's the last time she held her bow?
She's bored. She doesn't bother getting to know these new humans. They look at her the same. They're fun while they're alive. They all regard her with the same suspision, one who betrayed humanity for the riches of a god. Why not toy with those assumptions. No one believes she too longs for the seas and skies
A bard walks in and he has a dream. His determined eyes says he'll cast the tyrant down. How funny, from such a young boy. He'll see her as the enemy, as they all do. He'll try and he'll fail and he'll believe she helped strike his rebellion down. Maybe she will. She's bored, she's been alive with the tyrant for too long, no one will accept her, she may as well have some fun with this wanna-be rebel
He sings of skies and flight and she's amused. Only the young can dream like that, she's old and weary. She's bored, but she's still the lover of the tyrant and that gives her some power. So she has the guards look the other way when he sings, and echos his words to the nobles to watch how they yearn.
The little guy's fearless, maybe even overconfident. She picks up and draws her bow on him once or twice for show (never to hurt him, she doesn't want to lose this toy yet) to see how he'll react. She can see how he hates her. He doesn't know she's keeping him and his tunes of dissent safe. She laughs in approval at his refusal to back down and he takes it as mockery
He sings of skies and seas and she's reminded. Reminded of how she too misses a life beyond the barrier, the tower, where she's also free. Her lover is busy banning another tune. She hums it as she walks through the halls. She braids her hair as the rebels do, feathers hanging off that strand. Her lover's too busy and full of assumptions to know what it means. That bard still hates her, thinks she's making a mockery of his cause.
It's been so long and this is the most fun she's had in centuries. She finds herself dreaming again of the world beyond. Instead, she sneaks out of the tower and follows her heart, winding down a back alley where the bard quietly sings to a small creature hiding in his scarf from the bitter winds (she's never been affected by the winds from her lover, the role comes with its occational benefits).
She sings with this boy hundreds of years younger than her. She hums one of the banned tunes he wrote, and adds a clumsy verse about the seas and forests to compliment his skies. Eloquent and clever, he makes known unsaid in no uncertain terms that she will never be trusted. She can see in his eyes that he believes he'll be executed in hours (though will fight to the bitter end), caught by the one closest to the tyrant himself, and she can't help one more jab at him — who does he think is behind the guards never looking his way, always leaving him a route for escape? What, did he truly think dozens of his tunes were banned under the tyrannt's gaze but he was always so lucky to get away at the last moment? Interesting little thing, to believe he did it unhelped
The next time she sees him is months later. More songs are banned, some words are banned, unrest is brewing and this time he seeked her out. She is bored and disillusioned and no longer believes her lover to be capable of love. So she follows him whereever he takes her, and leaks vital information about the security of the tower. He asks her what her lover is like and she tells him all she knows and feels. She can tell in these months apart he's given her too a lot more thought, drew his own conclusions between the stories about her and her own words and dreams.
And offers her a part in their rebellion
