#and bobby interacting with chris is very much family

do y'all ever think about the fact that bobby is literally chris' grandpa? like yeah, bobby is a father figure to buck. but buck is also chris' second dad.
that's a dynamic i am reminded of whenever i see eddie and bobby interact outside of the fire station and it's a dynamic that should be explored more overall.

You know what else was interesting
They have to re-introduce the characters to the new audience, right?
So they show Chim being insecure he's not enough for his romantic partner... Like in the beginning of the series
But then his whole dynamic with Maddie and just the love and adoration between them
They show Bobby and Athena and make it clear what a high stress life they have but that they did find an anchor in each other
And they show how vigilant Athena always is and how they immediately work as a team
They show Hen as the competent Captain with a side of paramedic and also her empathy and kindness
and her and Chim being hilarious best friends
They show Buck and Eddie together talking about dating first and then about Chris
The easy communication between them
That they're partners not only at work because
They show the Buckley Diaz family. They show how natural this dynamic is. Eddie is like... Hey I was hoping you'd talk to him and Buck just does and Chris doesn't even question it
They position Buck as Chris' guardian /father as if it's the most normal thing
They bring up Shannon and show how much she and what happened in the past has impacted their life and relationship to each other but they also throw some healing into this
Some kind of closure to this
Still, it's interesting that they show Buck as the link there
Chris does not only not question why Buck is talking to him about dating but he also trusts Buck enough to tell him how he really feels which is a huge thing
In general but also cause Chris is a teen now
It's also interesting they brought up Eddie's panic attacks
On the one hand they're showing that something was going on with him but that he's healed a lot and doing much better than before
On the other hand it might be foreshadowing
To the changes in his romantic life and the link to the shooting
To the upcoming trauma and triggers
(please please let it be foreshadowing)
And then.....
they told us shit about Marisol
Eddie didn't even answer Buck when he was like... Oh I thought things were going great with her
She was there, yeah, but not even as an active presence
They didn't give her any room or interaction with Chris either
And I think that's so telling!?
So yeah absolutely loving it all so far and find it very very interesting what they chose to show about the characters within the first ep
I do find it weird though that all the other kids were left out and Karen as well

ok i’m talk about hen because god, i love her.
henrietta wilson and her character and storyline is very personal to me. without giving too much away about my personal life, she is very very similar to my sister. so its safe to say, she has my whole heart.
a lot of the talk (on my feed) lately around 7x04 and 7x05 has been about buck, which is fair, and you create your own feed yada yada. but i wanna talk about hen and her storyline(s) this season.
i will preface this by once again saying that hen’s character means a lot to me because she reminds me so much of my sister, so i’m going to have bias, and my view is going to be different and probably very opinionated and i’m aware of that.
we’re gonna start with the things i’m loving so far this season:
the first being that i love captain hen. it makes so much sense to me that hen would be the one to fill in for bobby (i can elaborate on that if y’all want just scream at me in my asks).
i love that we are seeing more interactions between hen and maddie. i think it’s really important that we see their relationship not only because maddie is chimney’s wife, but also because she’s buck’s sister. and hen obviously cares about the both of them so much, so to see hen interacting with the people that love the people she loves is mwuah so good!
the current henren storyline is so important. i love love love their growth as foster parents and i think mara’s story is going to be equally heartbreaking and heartwarming. i’m just excited to see how she fits into the wilson family.
now the things i’m not loving:
the fact that maddie was the one to call everyone in instead of hen. i feel like hen has never been wrong when it comes to her gut?? i can understand the fact that if she was going to get in trouble, she was just going to get herself alone in trouble, but have we not learned by now that there is strength in numbers?
the henren and mara storyline being put in 7x05. i’ve said before that 7x05 felt very rushed and i don’t like that there were three major storylines packed into one episode on top of the calls that the team goes on. in general i would’ve liked to see all the storylines in 7x05 be in their own episode with the calls instead of the chaos and the rush that is the 7x05. but the mara storyline is definitely one i’m invested in and i would love to see it handled with care and not rushed like the entirety of the latest episode was.
finally what i would like to see for hen, henren, and the wilson family in general:
i want to see more maddie and hen scenes. and more henren and madney scenes. we get a lot of emotional and hilarious screen time with chimney and hen but we don’t really see them interact with each other’s families outside of the 118. i would just love to see more of that. especially since both henren and madney have kids and i just want to see something that shows the parents of show interacting.
and to piggyback off of that, i want to see more eddie and hen!!! we don’t see much of their relationship but i think it makes sense the two would be close and hang out outside of work especially because denny and chris are close in age. once again, i just want to see the parents of the show interact more outside of calls.
now i’m gonna bring buck into this. i would love to see a scene between buck and hen regarding buck coming out. i just know would be so nurturing and supportive but also ready to tease the hell out of him especially after hearing how the first bucktommy date went.
lastly, i want to see how mara’s story plays out more than anything. it’s not going to be easy and i am so looking forward to the angst of it all but also the fluff and growth of hen’s character and the entire wilson family.
that’s majority of it (i have so many thoughts about hen, but they’re personal since she does remind me of my sister) but please feel free to come scream with me in my asks!!

Mads, I've been Autistic about what breed(s) of dog the FireFam could be and even if you don't like interact w this post I just would like to make you laugh- I may have to post multiples b/c there's A Lot. Ok, so, Bobby is a yellow lab a la Shadow from Homeward Bound and I will die on that hill. Athena is, obv, a Dobie- she's stunning, but a softy for her family but she also makes smiling look like a threat. (1/?)
Thank you for your patience dear I was rushing to finish the F&F AU and was also rather busy this weekend in general. I'm including your other three asks here as screenshots and this all is going to get a bit long so I'm putting everything below a cut to spare people's dashes!
FIRST OF ALL, HOW DARE YOU. HOW FUCKING DARE YOU.
SHADOW FROM HOMEWARD BOUND!?
Tumblr media
I'M GOING TO DROWN IN MY OWN TEARS.
WHEN THE KID IS LIKE OH MAYBE HE WAS TOO OLD AND THEN SHADOW APPEARS BECAUSE HE'S GOING TO COME HOME TO HIS BOY NO MATTER WHAT!!!! G O D
I NEED TO BE SEDATED!!!!
Ahem.
Tumblr media
STICK A LITTLE CROWN ON HER AND CALL HER ATHENA!
I babysat for a family that had a Doberman and he was truly a sweetheart. So protective of me and would stay glued to my side while I was there. "A softie for her family but makes smiling look like a threat" is soooooo Athena.
Tumblr media
oh my GOD I'm DYING
Tumblr media
Look at this baby. Pure fucking ADHD right here. *pats puppy* This guy can fit SO much anxiety and innate need to be of use in him!
I'M FUCKING HOWLING OVER EDDIE. LOOK YOU'RE NOT... YOU'RE NOT WRONG ABOUT THE CORGI COMMENT. THERE ARE TEARS IN MY EYES. BUT.
Tumblr media
This is still Eddie in my opinion.
Tumblr media
Someone send that bit about Chim to Kenneth Choi I think he'd find it hysterical.
Tumblr media
BEHOLD. CHIMNEY HAN. Look at those EARS.
I also personally could see Chim as a greyhound or a whippet.
Tumblr media
Chim's just got this fastness about him that makes me think of that kind of dog. Is this me remembering how he literally just SPRINTED away from Albert while playing basketball because he panicked about lying? Maybe. You can't prove anything.
I had to remind myself what a Chow Chow is and OHMYGOD IT'S SO FLUFFY???
Tumblr media
However I always saw Hen as a Great Pyrenees.
Tumblr media
These things will fuck you UP. They're flock dogs but not in the Border Collie sense. They don't herd. They kill the predators that try to go after the flock. They will chase down the wolves and destroy them. And they are super super SUPER protective of and gentle with kids. They ADORE kids. So that's my two cents there!
Tumblr media
Ohmygod Maddie is SUCH a Border Collie.
Tumblr media
INCH resting that you say Standard Poodle for Karen...
Tumblr media
Poodles are actually what my mom grew up with and she's always talked about how smart and wonderful they are, she's owned three in her lifetime and adores them. I know they kinda have this stereotype of being snooty but I think they're great and they ARE so fucking smart holy shit. They're smarter than some humans I've met.
However. Chris.
Tumblr media
I'm gonna have to fight you (lovingly) on this one, Nonny.
I will say that when I googled this dog I laughed so fucking hard my ribs hurt. I CRIED.
They are very cute as puppies!
Tumblr media
However. I must counter-argue and say that Christopher is...
Tumblr media
AN ENGLISH CREAM DACHSHUND
*sobbing* look at how CUTE it is!!!!!
Tumblr media
*continues sobbing over the cute*
Anyway thus concludes the nonny's opinions, and mine! I had a good laugh over this series of asks, thank you nonny. I hope you had a good weekend.

My 5 favorite fics i’ve written
I was tagged by @hattalove & @homerforsure (both of whom are fic writing IDOLS tbh) to share the top 5 fics I’ve written. I’ve only written 6 fics total so this was more a process of deciding which fic didn’t make the cut :(
maybe love won’t let me down
15k | rated M
Buck tells Eddie he’s in love with him. Eddie pines.
or, five times eddie watches buck leave, and the one time he goes after him
the first fic I wrote for 911 and still the best imo.
at every table i’ll save you a seat
10k | rated T
Buck and Eddie are best friends. Why is that so difficult for everyone to understand?
Or, five times someone tells Buck he’s in love with Eddie and the one time he tells Eddie
this fic has a very special place in my heart and also i think contains my favorite Feelings Realization scene i’ve ever written.
my heart’s a secret (tell me you’ll keep it)
5k | rated T
Buck’s first mistake was coming to the bar.
Actually, scratch that—his first mistake was falling hopelessly in love with his best friend, but he’s not sure he could’ve prevented that one.
But the bar—that he could have avoided. And the first shot of tequila. And the second, and third, and fourth.
His seventh mistake was watching Eddie get hit-on by a dead ringer for Chris Evans.
His eighth—and arguably most egregious—mistake was talking to Chimney.
Or, Buck tells Chimney a secret. This proves to be a mistake.
possible the MOST fun I’ve ever had writing a fic. It has some of my favorite firefam interactions I’ve ever written! There is also an incredible podfic of this by @mistmarauder...is it embarrassing to say i laughed my ass off at it since it’s technically my own writing?? but just the energy and comedic timing she brings to it is INCREDIBLE.
all i know since yesterday
6k | rated T
Buck knows what he’s doing might be constituted as ‘a bit creepy,’ but he can’t really help it. He has a book in his lap, so it’s not like he’s just staring at Eddie, but—ok, so he hasn’t actually read a page in over twenty minutes, and in the meantime he has watched his best friend chop like six different kinds of vegetables to go in Bobby’s ragu.
“How’s it going, Buck?” Hen asks, flinging herself into the adjacent arm chair.
“Fine,” Buck says, barely looking at her. “But something’s up with Eddie.”
the dynamic between Buck & Eddie in this fic was SO fun to write...poor Buck just has NO idea what’s going on...
things you don’t say reach me somehow anyway
14k | rated T
He writes CHRISTOPHER at the top of the page in capital letters. Underneath it goes BUCK. Then PEPA, CARLA, CHIM, HEN and so on until he has fifteen names listed out. Fifteen people to show his appreciation for.
He starts with the easiest name first.
or, Eddie tells the family he chose how much they mean to him. All of them except one.
I am so so proud of this fic, perhaps BECAUSE it was so much more challenging to write than the rest on this list. But I absolutely adored getting to focus on Eddie’s relationships with everyone in his life, including Buck.
tagging @pettyeddiediaz @eddiediazes @iinryer @colonoscopys @fallingthorns @two-cut-lines @messyhairdiaz @gayravi @hoediaz @buckactuallys @rewritetheending...i’m sure a lot of you have been tagged already but oh well!

you hve some very insightful posts what do you think about the distance kristen is writing between buddie this half? like it seems like they steered clear of buck telling eddie about the donor and i think that was on purpose.
i mean i would call what happened in 5A "distance," but not this? there's a big difference between Not spending time with someone and Not interacting with them at all, vs just, like, not talking to them about a handful of Very Big and Very Difficult To Broach subjects. i feel like this is more of the latter scenario! we've seen buck and eddie interacting a lot so far in S6, both at work and outside of it, both one on one and in group settings, with a casual and easy familiarity. plus, oftentimes even in scenes with the whole team, buck and eddie have been paired off together. so i wouldn't classify that as distance, because the show is still very much presenting them as a unit, so i don't think distance is the right word for it- more like not talking about important things. but that's also not a new development for them- the will, the shooting. this is another thing to add to the pile, and what it's effectively doing is creating a trio of Things: the will, which is eddie explicitly assigning buck a parental role in Chris's life. the shooting, which represents buck and eddie's importance in each others lives as partners. and finally, the donor not dad situation, which i suspect will be used to show that buck is ready to fully step into the role of being a parent full time, that he's ready to be a dad. those three things, when you line them up and place them side by side, establish the Buckley Diaz family as a unit, from every single angle. buck and eddie together, eddie choosing buck for chris's other parent, buck choosing to embrace being a dad (to chris!) so when they finally bring those three concepts together and have them talk about it, it'll be very clear!
i did definitely get the vibe that they're writing buck trying to avoid telling eddie about the donor situation. he approached hen about it first, mostly because she's in a unique position to give really good advice on this specific subject, but also- she's not someone who we've seen really calling buck out on shit before? she teases him about things for sure, but she's not maddie, or eddie, or bobby- she's generally more supportive and encouraging towards him. so i think at least a little bit of why he avoided talking to eddie about it was that he knew eddie would ask him tougher questions about it, questions that buck himself is still trying to ignore and repress and avoid answering even to himself.
he added eddie into the facetime call last, right? making it kind of an ambush? that's for a reason. buck can tell, on some level, that eddie isn't happy about this whole thing- his reaction to eddie abruptly hanging up the call points to this.
essentially, eddie's line "he's not spilling, and i don't feel like pushing" about Chris's crush, spoken TO buck, and Carla's line to Eddie "sometimes talking about it makes it too real," I think those two lines tell us exactly what they're attempting to do here in terms of buck and eddie not talking about the donation.

SaL anon here friend, stuck somewhere between cheering "We're back baby!!" and "WTF was that 😳😳😳!!!???". We've got the firefam back and going strong in every way, be it collectively or with their partners, and the vibes have been sorely missed. On the other hand exactly how are we supposed to interpret Buck and Eddie's relationship other than exactly what you're putting on the damn screen Tim??!! There's literally only one logical conclusion to completing the Diaz family once Eddie is asking Buck directly to help him parent, and it sure as hell isn't Folger's coffee Marisol (or KR's mom's best friend). Also when the stage direction for these two is apparently "make a lot of sexual innuendos but with only facial expressions" while Ryan's direction in the Marisol scenes is "act like she's present" 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️. Anywho, loved this start to the season, it ranged seamlessly from deeply personal to jello talk (to the very non subtle Natalia bashing) and if this is what we're in for I'm very much on board, so cheers friend and let's welcome our show home!!
Yooooo! How are we feeling after that episode?! It was WILD, right? Hands down the best premier episode they've had since season 3. Plus, the emergency for the next two (!!!) episodes looks like it's going to be the heart-pounding and engaging action that actually hits some emotional beats that we've sorely missed! Tim is bringing that sweet, sweet, firefam energy and it's PALPABLE in every scene where the heart of the show lies, and that is with our mains. (We didn't get a lot of Hen, but I feel like she's going to be featured more heavily next week which we probably wouldn't have noticed if the show got a 2 hour premier like the big emergencies used to get.)
The Buddie stuff was....whoo boy. Having the blurry background gf for the flashback to the date, but Buck being the one Eddie goes to when an issue comes up? LOUD! Buck being asked to step in and co-parent when the difficult conversation needs to happen? LOUD! Having Buck and Shannon sit in the same place on the bed to "talk" to Chris? LOUD LOUD LOUD! At the end of the day, I'm just happy we're getting to see Buddie have scenes together and actually SEE that they are best friends and in each other's pockets. But also, like...how are you going to establish that there isn't anyone who can co-parent with Eddie like Buck can and expect anyone to root for either of them forcing some rando into that space?! And don't get me started on that weird serial killer grimace smile Marisol has painted onto her face. She had a blip second of screentime and it was already SO cringe. Can we just be done with that now?
Speaking of done, I am STILL laughing at Tim coming in like, "The death doula was STUPID, it wasn't at ALL what Buck would need or want, and we aren't gonna do it! I planned a scene, but actually we have more important stuff to do!" Meanwhile, the "more important stuff" was Eddie being shirtless while Buck ogles him, Eddie putting his hand on Buck's pulse again while Buck blushes and smiles, Buck talking about sexual tension while walking towards Eddie dick first and holding a fire extinguisher hose in front of his crotch and proceeding to spray it, Buck and Eddie co-parenting seamlessly, and basically Buck and Eddie making heart eyes at each other any time the other did anything. If nothing else, Tim has a WEALTH of info to point back to as signposts if anyone wants to try and argue that Buddie came out of nowhere, like DAMN. Get a ROOM you two!
ANYWAY. I'm stoked for next week! I am ready to see Bobby and Athena going through it while the firefam are fighting to get to them! I am READY to see more Madney being adorable and heartfelt and their scenes being funny while not just being played off for laughs (not that KR was ever able to keep Kenny and JLH from bring the feels in every interaction because they're actually good at their jobs, but you know what I mean). I am dyyyyying to know what Hen and Karen are up to right now, and I am ready to see the whole crew back at work! (I'm also here for any more shade Timmy wants to throw around because some of the comments, and some of the lines in the show have got me like 🤭🤭🤭)
ABC came out swinging with all the promo and having EVERYONE doing interviews (god bless, Oliver needed a break), and the premier episode absolutely backed up all that work and money they put in. I am cautiously optimistic that, at least as far as getting the show back on track to those early season vibes, we are in for some good times and delicious drama that is still human and centered instead of OTT soapy. Cheers and fingers crossed this momentum keeps up and gets people engaged so we can get a full season 8!

Travis Hackett Fanfic Request
Tumblr media
I am looking to find someone (or multiple people) who might be interested in creating a new Travis Hackett / OC fanfiction.
I would like it to be Mature or Explict rated to include heavy smut and for the fanfic to be lengthy / have multiple chapters. I would like things to be detailed with somewhat of a slowburn but not too much filler before Travis and the OC interact with each other.
My idea was that maybe Travis is in charge of checking in on the summer camp at Hackett's Quarry and helping Chris out with keeping an eye on the camp counselors to make sure they are doing their job and not getting into trouble and he ends up falling for one of the female counselors.
In regards to Travis, i would like him to be standoffish and a bit rude at first but underneath caring, gentle, and shy. His experience with sex and dating is very limited and he is an older gentleman so things are a bit awkward with him at first but he eventually becomes very passionate and possessive - but not in a negative way - and begins neglecting his family and job due to his obsession with the counselor.
The OC counselor character that he falls for i would like to be a female, mid 20s, down to earth and a bit of a troublemaker. She likes to tease and flirt with Travis to get under his skin but genuinely likes him. She always tries to be in charge of each situation but ends up becoming submissive when her and Travis are alone.
Their relationship would start off in secret, them meeting at night and during the day sneaking off from their duties to get intimate. Then either Chris or Bobby ends up seeing them one time and the family gets involved - Chris and his kids are supportive, Bobby is supportive, Constance and Jedediah are not and give Travis a hard time. OC ends up pregnant and Travis realizes he has an opportunity to have a family like Chris.
I don't mind there being conflict and hardships but i want the story to have a generally happy ending to it.
THANK YOU TO ANYONE WILLING TO WRITE THIS.

One night Max and Laura are almost successful at escaping. Max took a risk taking on Travis and managed to get away with the keys. He’s able to get Laura out and encourages her to run and find someone to help them. She gets far away, but eventually hears Travis chasing after her, first in his cruiser then on foot when she runs into the woods. She ends up taking a serious tumble and somehow ends up several years in the past.
Lost and confused and not yet aware of what’s happened to her she ends up running until she’s picked up by a police officer. It’s a man that goes by Sheriff Hank. He helps Laura to town listening to everything she says, but she sounds crazy. Especially when she freaks out when reaching the station. Everyone’s trying to calm her down and understand her story and things only get worse and more complicated when Deputy Travis comes in.
It’s a few days of talks before Travis is out of any trouble and Laura calms down. Putting together what’s happening Laura ends up being set up to rent a place while she gets things together. She quickly gets a grasp that she’s in North Kill in a different time, the werewolf ordeal is far off and she’s all alone. She gets a job as a waitress/store clerk while she puts things together. She gets along with people though some officers clearly spoke about her and that gets whispers behind her back. But of course the one person that throws a wrench into things is Travis who she unfortunately has to keep running into.
She’s carried over and kept up her animosity towards Travis but she can’t help that it is odd to do so. Only because younger Travis is so ridiculously different from the Travis she’s come to hate. He’s still awkward, but in a cuter way that she denies. He’s more confident and surprisingly charming. He’s more laugh and smiles and proudly helping people no matter how small the issues are. She’s not surprised when people still refer to him as being a bit creepy, surprised with how many people talk positively about him, but intrigued when some don’t trust him cause the Hackett name carries some bad reputation.
She can’t seem to escape Travis and he’s usually apologetic but they do hit problems when Travis points out that they don’t have to believe her and that she’s excusing him of some absolutely insane shit with zero evidence. She trys to keep her hate in place but she can’t deny she’s being drawn to the Travis she’s seeing now. She’s still needs to figure out how to get back home.
Her interaction with the other Hackett’s are very limited. When summer comes around she signs up as a counselor sort of as a means to get the experience she didn’t get to have. So she meets the very strict, but still approachable Jedediah who seems like he genuinely wants the campers to have a good time. She gets to meet Chris who Travis has lovingly talked about (and maybe Bobby? I don’t have the exact year down so...I’m not sure if Bobby is even born, but Travis and Laura are meant to be the same age.) She also gets to meet Constance.
Laura gets glimpses of why Travis would act so much to protect his family, but she also sees the worst of it. It’s something simple barely anything to get mad about and Travis is defending himself and not back talking. It still gets him hit and insulted. She still watches him flinch at nearly every movement that his Pa and Ma make.
She doesn’t bring it up when she seems him, acting like she’s ignorant to why Travis has an obvious bruise forming. That’s not what starts it, but she still doesn’t mean to make friends with him. She tries not to think about it when people joke about them looking like a couple or when they end walking or sitting pressed up against one another or how normal it feels for them to hold hands.
When Constance comes to her job Laura finds herself being passive aggressive to Constance to not let on what she knows and get’s punished for her work with an early leave and a few shift cuts. She gets a few extra tasks at Hackett’s Quarry because of it, but otherwise things go well. Unfortunately Laura stumbles upon and catches the tail end of another confrontation between Travis and his parents. She witness’ a few things: Travis getting hit more without putting up much effort physical or verbal to defend himself, that Chris is present and appears to be conditioned to not realized what Travis is going through and she watches Travis stomp off somewhere barely holding back tears.
She follows him all the way to a secluded spot that Travis has claimed as his own. Laura doesn’t know what to do when Travis notices her as he’s caught between being angry at her being their and having seen everything and being embarrassed about it. Never in her predicament did Laura think she’d be comforting Travis. She never even further in the slightlest thought that she would be making love to him. Or waking up in his arms as if she was the most precious thing in the world to him. And right as she’s accepting what she feels, it happens again and she’s back to the proper time.
However when she returns its on the same night that she and Max are driving up early for Hackett’s Quarry. She wakes up from what to Max was a nap and is freaking out and inadvertently causes the original crash to happen because of it. She’s apologetic to Max about the situation but doesn’t know if she’s been in a nightmare or not and doesn’t want to sound crazy. Eventually someone does comeby to help them get unstuck. It’s a police officer! But it’s not Travis, just some fresh faced deputy. He doesn’t question them going to Hackett’s Quarry and when they get there (despite Laura saying they should go to the motel) there is a note from Chris saying welcome and just asking to do a quick favor or two before everyone gets to camp.
Harum Scarum came and went, there was no fire and no werewolf outbreak. She gets to meet all the Hacketteer’s normally and get to know them, she even meets Kaylee and Caleb. At one point she goes into Chris’ office and sees a picture of Travis in it at 56. She realizes how odd it is to see him smile at this age after only knowing him to look so disgruntled. She tries to ask Chris about him some, learning that he still lives in North Kill, has only been the sheriff for a while after the former sheriff retired, but doesn’t entirely interact with the family anymore. Chris’ tone and word choice gives Laura enough info to know that Chris may have gotten a clue as to how Travis was being treated.
Out of curiosity she takes a walk up to the secret spot she followed Travis to. It’s a bit cleaner than when she last saw it. Things from his life and that time mostly gone, though some remain and some new things from over the years. It warms and breaks her heart, she doesn’t expect to hear her name be called. She doesn’t expect to see Travis there. He looks the same as the very first time they met though maybe a bit younger due to the apparent lack of building six years worth of trauma and stress.
Travis can’t believes what he’s seeing. When she asks about Harum Scarum, he tells her he remembered her ramblings and made sure that Kaylee and Caleb never went and kept an eye out for others not to do anything. She then asks some other questions like how’s he been and what’s been up to. Standard. Then asks if he’s been in any relationships over the years, married? Divorced? Dating? Yes, almost engaged, not dating. He gets surprised when she hugs him.
They talk for a while about everything and how they feel. Laura reveals that she’s okay with him as she is. She knows him very well by this point. She asks if he’ll be okay with her if he wants. He’s nervous about the age difference but wants to be with her. He’s still in disbelief but she almost wants to cry when he says he’s finally with the girl of his dreams again.
Tumblr media

Ok, I think I'm starting to process this a little bit, so here are my thoughts on this episode.
Starting strong with the hearts mentions! The girl with the heart transplant, the golfer dad 'shot' almost to the heart by the wedding ring, the car dealer claiming that they have heart, and Maddie, MADDIE MY LOVE, wearing the same heart necklace in all of her scenes, all 7 of them!!!! I'm still screaming.
Speaking of Maddie.... so much is going on in my head about her! Madney is back! Madney is going strong! I fucking love them - on another note, Chimney, dear lord. The way he caresses Maddie's shirt to get to her hand... just. That's some fucking Austen shit right there, and also hotter than all the 50 shades movies combined.
And something else about Maddie! I love that once she moves in with Chim she says "Turns out Mama's got a lot of stuff!" which is so different from what we know of Maddie - she never puts down roots, she travels light, she only had two suitcases worth of stuff when she left Doug, but now she's got many more things, just like her family is made of a lot more people.
Captain Hen! She IS the future of the LAFD as it's implied in Hen Begins. I think Captain Wilson was where they were going to go before they decided to get Hen to Med School, anyway, so. Also, I hadn't watched the Lucy scene before watching the episode because ya girl here wants to experience the whole episode at once, so yeah, I'm perfectly ok with the way all the things about the Interim Captain went. (Also, I still stand by my decision to watch the episode as they come - no preview, no nothing, it's a whole other experience this way.)
(May is so pretty in this episode, dear lord)
Bobby and Athena, my loves! ❤️ Their first scene together warmed me to my very core. (also if we find out that that little girl that disappeared when Athena was a kid was kidnapped or killed by her dad I will cry for three days straight)
Buck, Buck, my beloved (THE RETURN OF THE CLIPBOARD!!!!!!!!!). I firmly believe that the show will end with Buck in the Captain's chair - and this! We'd got from Oliver Stark's several interviews in the last week that he was going to go for that and I loved his interaction with Bobby, the idea that to become a good leader you can't just be good at your job, you also need stuff outside of it too.
Eddie in this episode hit me in so many ways, dear lord. He was so competent with everything - did you see the sternal rub? I'm gonna start developing a complex here - both as a medic and as a firefighter. He's better, he's more open, I love how he talked about Shannon, I just loved him so much in this episode. (also kudos to Ryan Guzman, because seriously! He's so different from the other seasons, and you can see it, you can feel it, I love the way he talks now, because I remember how he was in S2-S4, always trying to make his voice a bit bigger, a bit lower, louder and quieter at the same time, but this Eddie is more comfortable in his own skin, he doesn't need to pretend to be something he's not, and Mr. Guzman is incredible in the way he shows it.)
Buddie. I have no words - actually, I have too many words, bear with me here:
The lasagna!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As a little italian lady, let me tell you that lasagna is how you show love. It's time-consuming, it's a hassle, it's something that you only do for the people you love. The fact that he's making it for Chris and Eddie, so comfortable in his kitchen, so laid back, is just... ugh. Also how he says it took him three times to get it 'right' - I don't know, like the number of girlfriends he's had in the show and the fourth time is the charm and he's giving it to Eddie and Chris???????? I'm screaming.
On a sidenote, I fucking called it - food is love in this show, so Taylor can get fucked and she only gets frozen waffles, but the Diaz family deserves home-cooked meals made from scratch! Something he doesn't really know how to cook even! That he had to make over and over again. I'm sorry, I'm obsessed.
The couch talk was so incredibly important too - once again, I'd steered clear of all the discourse after 'you don't even have a couch' was leaked - but yeah. The way Buck says "The couches came with girlfriends" and he's never really felt comfortable in them (thinking of Chris sitting down on the coffee table in 3x03 here), and then Eddie replying "Your last two girlfriends came with couches" WHEN BUCK IS ALWAYS SITTING DOWN OR SLEEPING ON EDDIE'S COUCH, JUST WHAT
I have no idea how they managed to make the loft so lived in! It looked like a home - and the fact that it was because the table was set and Eddie and Chris were there, just... kill me already.
I'M NOT DONE ABOUT HOW IMPORTANT THE FOOD IS. You mean to tell me that Taylor moves in and she gets to eat takeout - no cutlery because they can find it - but Eddie is there and the whole table is set up, everything is out, and they get a homemade meal? I will be done screaming at one point, I swear.
Chris roasting one of his dads with the help of his other dad, my beloved.
Eddie and Chris feeling comfortable enough at the loft that they can mind their own business as Buck does his thing ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ also, I love how at ease they looked in Buck's kitchen but once they're home on their own... it felt off, it felt like something was missing this time around.
(Mr Guzman, you blushed through the whole episode. What. do. you. know.)
THE CHAIR. ashdhfbrkfhbsrkjfbsdfjbsd the way he's choosing a chair he owns, a chair he knows, a chair that won't hurt him. (Also, Oliver, dear lord, the way he lifts that chair)
I don't know. I have so many feelings. The more I think about it the more insane I feel about the weewoo show.

I am...confused about people hating this Buck/Bobby storyline? Like yes the l*cy of it all is irritating, but even cutting that out, we'd still have Buck being hurt by the decision. We have been begging for more Buck and Bobby interactions so this feels like a good thing to me! It's a great way to show Buck's growth with him venting to Eddie and he and Chris keep Buck from spiraling, and will likely lead to a good conversion with Buck and Bobby. It SHOULD take a couple episodes to resolve especially with Bobby leaving. Then again, I enjoyed the lawsuit arc for giving us complex characters and situations where they both had good points but both made bad choices and ended up hurting each other so maybe it's just me that's excited about this.
The previous anon I just answer is the only "negative" comment I've seen about it, tbh. (Like you said, inserting Lucy into their conflict is the detail that stands out due to the current optics.) I would guess that it's one of two things, or maybe even a combo: - 5x18 was about bringing the family back together after a season in which physical and emotional distance put a strain on individuals and team dynamics, and the very first episode of the new season is (apparently) going to put a wedge of sorts between Buck and his Captain, his father figure. So much for everyone being in a better place, you know? - It's Bobby "versus" Buck. Of course it's Buck. We know how a certain section of fandom feels about the other members of the 118 "being mean" to the golden retriever. The takes are going to be bad. The block button will get a lot of use (after vague posting about the things being read, obv). As if these people needed another opportunity to baby a full grown man!

OG 911 Character Details from Canon Pt 2
Hi y’all I’m back! I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who reblogged the last details post - I sort of just thought people would like it and it would die, so to see it travel and hopefully reach more writers was so great so thank you again!
Details under the cut since I went a little crazy 😅 and if this is your first time seeing this, the first part, and any future parts, can be found under this tag here!
Quick note before I get to the details - always, ALWAYS take details from dialogue or plot over details from the set or props if they contradict each other. The writers have the ultimate say over what happens on the show/for the characters, so whatever they say goes, even if it goes against something props has already laid down (eg, Chim’s birthday, sorry Libra crew. He’s an Aries or a Pisces). So keep that in mind for the future in case some of these details I have which are from props/set are changed in the future, or if you’ve noticed something yourself!
Also if you have questions, I am MORE than happy to answer them, although if you leave them in the tags on this post I’m probably gonna lose them, so if it’s something you’d genuinely like an answer to, drop it in my inbox! Besides my standard “ask” tags, I’m also tagging asks about canon details with this tag here. Every time I make a big post like this, I’m going to link all the asks I’ve gotten since the last post, but if you’re looking for more info in the mean time, that’s the other spot to look!
Buck has a grill on his patio.
Eddie doesn’t hang Christopher’s art on the fridge - instead it is either hung on the corkboard in Chris’ room to the left of the door, or Eddie puts it in an actual frame and hangs it using a hammer/nails in Christopher’s room. All the Diaz family has on their fridge is a bunch of bendy people magnets. (I absolutely ADORE him putting all this effort into treating Christopher’s art like it’s something you’d buy from a professional artist).
Info on everyone’s ages can be found here. (Little more discussion of Chim’s situation here).
Albert has a bachelor’s degree! I don’t know in what though, except that it’s some field for which is a Master’s is useful.
Athena was in a sorority in college, Delta Sigma Theta. Their website describes them as “ ...a sisterhood comprised primarily of Black, college-educated women ... [that] considers the issues impacting the Black community and boldly confronts the challenges of African Americans and, hence, all Americans ”, which I love for Athena, and feel is very in-character for her at that time in her life!
Chim is an aviators dude. When he wears sunglasses, they’re always aviators.
Athena also wears nothing but aviators.
Bobby wears square aviators.
Eddie, on the other hand, always wears Wayfarers.
Buck either doesn’t really like sunglasses or he constantly forgets he owns them, since we’ve only seen him wear them once in 60 eps, in a move I’m pretty sure was ONLY for dramatic effect.
Hen’s sunglasses change style over the seasons like her regular glasses do, but she tends to like browline sunglasses.
Info on Christopher’s school can be found here!
There are two colors of dispatch polo, and there doesn’t seem to be any rhythm or reason for who wears what. Maroon - Maddie and Linda. Blue - Josh and May. Jamal has actually worn both maroon and blue, so it doesn’t seem to be TOTALLY set in stone although I’ve never seen anyone else switch. Sue is too badass to wear a dispatch shirt.
Both Bobby and Eddie drive 4 door pickups. Bobby’s is navy. Eddie specifically has a black, 2020 GMC Denali 1500 pickup truck (in case you want to specifically look up what the inside of it looks like or what features it has 😂)
Info on the 118’s medical certifications can be found here.
Correction to Eddie’s living situation from last post: no next door neighbors, but instead UPSTAIRS neighbors. (Pointed out by Abigail in this ask). Also since someone else was wondering the notes of the last post - no, there is absolutely no discussion on the show of whether or not Eddie rents the apartment or owns it. But based on the fact that it’s 1) LA and 2) an apartment, my guess would be he rents it.
When Maddie isn’t feeling like herself, she tends to straighten her hair rather than curl it. It seems to be more when she’s uncertain about her place in her own and other people’s lives, rather than just when she’s simply worried - eg it’s straight in 2B, when she’s uncertain if she wants to continue working as a dispatcher/is unsure about her relationship with Chim.
For work, Chim, Eddie and Buck all use black duffel bags with a LAFD patch on the top. Hen uses several different cute bags, and Bobby seems to have a plain black duffel bag.
Watches - Bobby, Athena, Chim, Hen and Buck all wear their watch on their left wrist (but Athena ONLY wears hers for work, she takes it off at home.) Eddie wears his on his right wrist, and Maddie doesn’t wear one.
Chim (and Maddie by default) literally still have the exact same couch as in the pilot. (Which means that Chim has cuddled Tatiana on that couch, AND Albert has had sex on it. TIME TO GET A NEW ONE, BUCKLEY-HANS 😂)
The 118 has five different rigs - the engine (E118), the ladder truck (T118), two ambulances and the captain’s truck. 95% of the time, when the team is chilling in the cab of a rig and chatting (eg the ‘stuck under a live telephone pole’ scene in Jinx), they’re in the engine, not the truck. (Which I personally learned recently are NOT interchangeable terms!)
Athena and Michael got married when Athena was 37.
If you’d like to give Maddie a full name beyond “Maddie”, you should use Madeline. (I know, I know, in 4x04 she says Maddie is the name on her birth certificate, and that you should never use props details if they contradict script details, but I always thought that was a super weird exchange in 4x04 which could be explained by Maddie getting a nickname since she was born when Margaret and Phillip, you know, actually loved their kids and showed it, so of course Buck doesn’t get one, and in 4x04, Maddie was trying to avoid the entire issue of why she got one and Buck didn’t. But! Do what you want, and use Madeline as the full version of Maddie if you’d like, since that’s what’s on the BOLO in 2x13 😂)
Athena’s call sign is 727 L30, but she doesn’t have a specific squad car - the number changes throughout the series.
Chim really likes chewing gum, but he’s the only one out of the entire family!
The station has an Xbox One S, and it’s white.
In the real LAFD, there are stations 1 through 114. To avoid confusion while filming on the streets (I’m assuming), our fictional LAFD never uses the number of a real station. So if you want another station for a fic, and you want something that would be real in OUR universe, use the numbers 115 and above. They’ve gone as high as 221 in our universe.
Battalions - station 118 is in Battalion 7, which is also not a battalion in real Los Angeles. The 118 has interacted w/ Battalion 1, which is a real battalion, but other ‘non-real which makes them more likely for our universe’ battalions include numbers: 3, 8, 13, 16, 19 and above.
S1 Buck knew the term Jedi, but based on context, didn’t understand AT ALL the context provided by Star Wars, so there’s another edge of his pop culture limits for you.
Chim is the most tech-savvy out of everyone, hands down.
Athena has a VERY active Twitter account.
Abuela’s house number is 8902. I don’t have a street name for you unfortunately though. :/
Athena’s favorite flowers are white roses. None of the other women are really flower people.
Michael likes to wear purple.
When they’re at a call, Buck does pretty much all of the stuff with the hammer and the saw. Eddie does all the work needed with the drill.
Harry goes to Meadowbrook Elementary.
Buck lives on the fourth floor of his apartment building, across the hall from Apt. 416. The lovely @lovelessmotel found this listing for what is more or less the apartment. What happened was: the set crew rented this apartment for the one episode at the end of s2 when Buck moved in, and then over the summer before s3 built their own set of it, and changed some things - eg giving him an island, and moving the sink to a second counter against the far wall, you can see the changes here in this amazing gif set by the awesome Austen, but the listing should let you click around a little more upstairs and figure out dimensions better than what the show provides!
When Athena and Hen go out to eat together, it’s always fast food burgers and fries.
Waffles are Athena’s favorite food, and tiramisu is her favorite dessert.
Every takeout we’ve seen Buck eat has always been in a Chinese food takeout container, and we know he likes Thai food the best. EXCEPT! The one time we see him eat takeout with Eddie and Christopher, they have pizza. So take from that what you will......
Eddie has a cell phone and a landline.
Chim is a shameless multiple texter.
Chim and Bobby sleep closest to the door in their respective bedrooms (both right side of the bed if you are standing at the foot, facing the headboard), and Athena and Maddie sleep furthest away from the door (left side).
Some canon last names for other firefighters at the station in case you wanna add more people to a fic - Mitchell, Sanchez, Serrano (woman), Porter, Meyers (woman), Maxwell, Voyta
Hen and Karen really love decorating their house with dark/red wood.
Karen is Mommy and Hen is Mama.
Bobby has a brother, and a grandmother, and that’s literally ALL we know about his family outside of Marcy and the kids.
Evidence points to Eddie being the oldest child in his family.
Karen has multiple brothers (no sisters), but no idea how many - just that one of them is named Trey, and one of them lives in LA and has kids. They might be the same brother and they might not be.
Both Hen and Athena are only children.
Athena has been on the police force for 30 years.
Christopher and Denny are the same age (born in 2011), and Harry is two years older than them.
Michael lives in apartment 308.
The bank in this universe is CalAm.
Hen and Karen have a picture of Denny, May and Harry on their fireplace mantel.
Eddie having a black thumb + a lot of plants in his living room = him buying fake plants bc he likes the aesthetic ™ or someone (cough Carla cough) is taking care of them for him.
The COVID timeline in OG’s universe is fucked up compared to the real world’s, so it shouldn’t be used as a way to measure time! They just throw it in wherever it makes sense for the story they want to tell (eg the vaccines in s4 ep 8), since s3 was both done before COVID hit but also airing while it was happening. It makes absolutely no sense for May to graduate in March nor for Chris to be going to what is specifically labeled summer camp, and the vaccine plotline was INCREDIBLY early, even for real life, so don’t use anything from that as a measure of time. I’ve found except in specific examples, eg the two tsunami episodes, it’s very safe to say every episode covers a week - fall holidays on the show line up with their real life counterparts, indicating about the same amount of time is passing for us and them.
On that note - Jee-Yun was born in late January, early February 2021. (Conceived in Pinned, which was end of March/beginning of April, meaning Maddie was around a month along at May’s graduation in May ➡ 42 weeks + 3 days from then = late Jan/early Feb. Which unfortunately means we most likely won’t see her birthday celebrated on screen. If we assume she was conceived on the date Pinned aired, aka the very sexy hotel scene, then January 21st or 22nd would be Jee’s birthday, depending on if she was born after midnight or not.
Buck has had at least one other Jeep between the one Maddie gave him, and the one he has now, which means that when he needs a new car, he is purposefully choosing Jeeps.
I hope this was all as interesting/enjoyable to you as it was to me! And just to repeat - I love answering questions so pls let me know if you have any at all ❤

Here’s the thing about Buddie (why no other ship with these two can ever float)...they are constantly, and from pretty much the very beginning, fulfilling the one thing the other is desperately looking for. Hear me out:
Eddie’s story so far is about finding a partner. Shannon was ready and right there, but he wasn’t and by the time he is, and she’s back in his life she’s recognized that’s not what she wants. His own parents might have been able to shift his course if they’d been supportive but they were the opposite of that. Trying to convince him that he’s doing everything wrong and they’re the ones who deserve to look after his kid.
Ana is -- a cardboard cutout of a character -- but what little the show has given us has kept her removed from being any kind of support. There’s some dating (that revolves around math homework? Apparently? I guess this is a kind of support???) but we don’t actually see her interacting with Chris, we’re just told that she used to be a favourite teacher of his. Eddie gets shot and she sits in his hospital room. That’s it. She has one line, something like, ‘Any news yet doctor?’ and then is mute again, smiling beatifically at Buck when Eddie wakes up (and stepping aside, so as not to stand in between which, nice directorial choices there, nice metaphor), and then cheering at a welcome home party for Eddie. So...not much of a real partner there.
Then there’s Buck. Their initial friction ends with: ‘You can have my back any day’ and, ‘Or, you can have mine’. It’s humorous, but also that’s the thing that makes them more than teammates. Either one of them takes a risk, the other’s got them covered, this is common in the found family that is the 118 true, but the juxtaposition of Eddie and Buck, vs Chim and Hen reveals they’ve got a bit more invested in the other. ‘You wanna do a rope rescue?!” fine then, I’m gonna be the one holding your line. You wanna save your ex’s fiance from this unstable train car? I’m pissed at you, and you’re an idiot, but stop arguing with the Cap and just do it and I’m gonna be right here by the window when you get through’. ‘Oh, you’re having a mental breakdown working out some deep-seated issues trying to pull this metaphorical (but also very literal) weight off a victim while everything burns around you? I will be the first person on the line to help you lift’. ‘Hey, you’ve fallen down a well? I’m going to dig through the earth with my hands while the team tries to figure out if there’s a better way to save you’. ‘Oh, you got gunned down by a sniper in the middle of the street? Imma pull you under this firetruck to safety, hike you over my shoulder and then ride with you to the hospital, no big. Just stay with me’.
Buck sees Eddie struggling to look after Christopher and introduces him to Carla, who helps Eddie sort everything out, including Christopher’s school. Pretty sure if we compare all the scenes where Eddie’s talking about how he’s struggling (not many, I know) there’s more of him talking to Buck than there are of him talking to Bobby. He tells his therapist he doesn’t want his kid to be like him: constantly repressing and not talking about his feelings. In the same ep a few minutes later, there’s Buck going, “time to talk about FEELINGS”. Eddie needs a partner to go on a treasure hunt? Forget his cardboard girlfriend, his first choice is Buck. The same Buck who Christopher runs to when he wants a safe space that isn’t home. Who talks to Christopher after Eddie’s shot, and then is repeatedly shown taking care of Christopher throughout the ep. When Eddie wakes up, you know his first thought is Christopher and Ana’s right there. His girlfriend, Ana. Does he ask her how his kid is doing? Apparently not, he waits until Buck takes over to ask, and then have a video call. This was a choice. If they wanted to strengthen Eddie/Ana, this moment could easily have been given to her, it wasn’t.
Let’s talk about Eddie during the lawsuit arch. His grocery store meltdown and the grudge he holds when Buck returns to the 118: it’s the first time Buck wasn’t acting like his partner. The lawsuit, initiated by Buck, exposed Eddie and Christopher and the 118 (who Eddie needs as an extended family almost as much as Buck) to ‘a lot of eyes’ (judgement) and stress. ‘Your actions affect other people, that’s what it means to be part of a team’. It also prevented Eddie from reaching out to Buck because they can’t be in contact: ‘Do you know how much Christopher misses you? ... what if I needed to be bailed out of jail?’ What’s interesting is how quick Eddie is to trust Buck again. Given how long it took him to forgive Shannon, his actual wife who he admits he abandoned first, you’d think he’d have more of a problem with Buck. That there would be some residual friction even after they manage to patch things superficially. But no, 7 eps later they are so much back to trusting each other that Eddie puts Buck in his will. Why? Because Buck hears everything that Eddie says and meets it: ‘you’re right’ and ‘I’m sorry’ and whatever he needs to do he’s willing to earn that trust back. We never had that discussion between Eddie and Shannon, there was too much between them that they wouldn’t/couldn’t hear the other.
From the other side of it, Buck needs a family. He needs to feel that he has people who will stick with him come what may. For as much as he invests and tries to make this the 118, we know that there’s some work there still, mainly because of Bobby and Chimney. Bobby, who we see is periodically incapable of seeing Buck for Buck, and gets overprotective and overbearing. By putting him on light duties he’s taking the family away from Buck, which is why Buck’s response is so extreme. Chim because of the complication his relationship with Maddie offers, obscuring his ‘allegiances’ (as we see with the Buck Begins arch’), but this makes it hard for Buck to feel like he’s fully got them in his corner, there’s a ‘but’ inherent in their relationship. And he’ll always love Maddie, but he’s still working on relying on her because she abandoned him once, and finding out she kept such a big secret from him is a further complication. (not sh****** on these characters, btw, I love them, but it complicates the relationship from Buck’s perspective).
His girlfriends are no different. Abby, given what she’s been going through in her own life, is not ready to be there for yet another person, which is why I think she doubles down on peacing-out so hard on Buck -- she feels guilty but also it’s everything she does not want at this moment. She’s trying to find herself, she doesn’t want to be there for someone else. Ali isn’t comfortable with the dangers of his work, and Taylor is basically early Buck -- focused on herself and her job and her own needs. All that is great, but it’s not what Buck needs right now. Aside, but this is sort of what I see in what’s likely to be the inevitable Taylor/Buck relationship: Buck is going to be her Abby. I really hope we see him get to a place where he can end things for himself, because that would be a step forward for his character.
In contrast, there’s Eddie. Because he’s Eddie there’s no loud gestures, just constant and repeated demonstrations of support. I always thought it was interesting how they wrote that early ep where Eddie’s abuela is hurt. (not tinfoil hatting, I just thought it revealed something neat about his headspace). Because Eddie’s worried and Buck’s right behind him coming into the hospital. Eddie is introducing Buck to his family as his family: this is tia ... Peppa. Just a little thing that illuminates where Eddie’s head is at, and I wonder if the writers would have written him so wrapped-up in his family if it had been a different character with him?
There’s that little moment pre-tsunami where Bobby’s talking to the 118 about how they have to be there for Buck, and the camera shows Eddie frown to himself and then a few scenes later he’s demonstrating that he (1) clearly has a key to Buck’s place, (2) is planning to deal with Buck’s depression with a wrecking ball, aka, over-exposure to the literal ray of light that is Christopher Diaz. This always felt to me like Eddie going, ‘hey, I know what helped me deal with my depression and ptsd etc when I got back from Afghanistan, I bet it will help you too’.
The tsunami arch is Buck desperately trying to find Christopher, yes, but lets not forget it’s also Buck desperately trying to hide the fact that he lost Christopher from Eddie. It’s literally the worst thing he could do, and how can he tell Eddie because obviously the only result is his losing Eddie forever, too. But he does it. The writers give us this moment where Buck stands up and starts to explain. I love this, because of course it shifts things between them. After you’ve admitted the worst possible thing to someone, anything else becomes small, and more manageable. We see this in the way that Buck talks to Eddie after. The kitchen convo, he takes a breath and dives in: ‘if you can’t be honest with your therapist at least me honest with me’. He’s a lot more comfortable making himself vulnerable to Eddie, because he’s done this once already and what was Eddie’s reaction?
‘There’s no one I trust with my kid more.’ ‘A natural disaster happened, Buck.’ And in that same conversation, Eddie unknowingly gives Buck the words to express what he’s needed all this time, that he’s never gotten. ‘I love him enough to never stop trying’, so in S4 Buck’s able to say to his parents, ‘You gave up on us’, and when they ask what else they were supposed to do? ‘Love us anyway’.
We see multiple people trying to support Buck when he’s on light duty, trying to explain that he’s more than this job. But Buck wants to help people, he needs to feel useful in a more direct way than being a teacher, or a 911 operator etc help people. And he’s not suited to being a medic or a doctor, he’s got to throw his whole body at a problem, and despite their best intentions, trying to explain that he’s more than the job (very true) without saying other jobs that might satisfy that need can’t allay Buck’s fears. We never hear Eddie considering that Buck won’t come back, his position is always that Buck needs to trust his captain, and as a result we never see how he’d speak to Buck about not being a firefighter, he never doubts that Buck will be back. But we do get to see his reaction after Buck’s rescue in Buck Begins, which is solid and supportive, “I know”, rather than being angry at the risk that was taken.
Eddie’s made Buck a part of his family, as demonstrated by the video game nights they share with Christopher, how Buck is at home in Eddie’s house (’Uh, this is Eddie’s house so I’m not exactly a guest’), how he invites Buck to help chaperone his kid’s first sleepover, how apparently a playdate with Hen and her kid and Eddie and Christopher also includes Buck. How he confidently tells Buck, ‘We’re family’ when Buck’s over-identifying with Red and worrying about being left behind -- and he can be exactly that confident, apparently, because by this point he’s gone and made Buck Christopher’s legal guardian.
There’s not enough space in this series (short of creating another spinoff series and then doing a crossover) to write a female character who is so well developed and complex, and so inextricably woven into either character that she can believably compete with what Buck and Eddie are to each other. No other relationship will be able to compete, because the writing has been winding them around each other from the start.

Buddie 4x14 review - if you haven’t watched it yet don’t read.
The episode starts where we left it, once Buck was on the ground, it seems like he was thrust back into reality. I noticed two things here (connected with 4x13) Eddie didn’t close his eyes until Buck was safe behind the truck on the ground. And the second thing is that Buck was spurred into action the moment Eddie’s eyes closed.
And I mean this was some BAMF Buckley right there, that was SEALS trained Evan Buckley! 😱🤩 It’s like training and instinct kicked in and all that mattered was to get to Eddie and get him help as soon as possible, sniper’s bullets be damned. I gotta say it was executed to perfection❣
Big kudos to both Oliver and Ryan for delivering this whole sequence in a heart-wrenching, beautiful manner.
The shooting doesn’t stop and they get Eddie out of there under fire, I really like the 133 captain and crew, they worked so well with the members of the 118, it seemed effortless. (I’m not touching that subject, but let’s picture Buck lifting Eddie bodily up into his arms and in to the truck for just a second here. - I mean we wanted it but not under these circumstances)
Buck taking the role of medic when finally getting Eddie into the truck, is so amazing, he’s usually the one either in need for treatment or the one who stands back and let’s Hen, Chim and Eddie do the medic stuff, it is their jobs after all, but he doesn’t sit back and let the medics of the 133 to take over, he does it himself.
He tore Eddie’s uniform’s buttons open (again, that’s not how any of us wished for this to happen), tore the pressure bandage wrap open and pressed it down on the wound, he did not step back from Eddie, until he absolutely has to, at the hospital. 😭
Eddie, my poor baby, was lying on the ground of the truck, bleeding and half conscious and the one thing he focused on was the blood on Buck’s shirt and he asked him if he’s hurt. I mean I could totally cry, because that’s Eddie. Best friend, combat medic, protective and caring, that never goes away even as he’s lying there bleeding. 🥺🥺
Eddie was legit ready to forget his injuries and try to get up and take care of Buck if he was hurt too. He loses consciousness only when Buck assures him that he’s not hurt.
Buck’s frantic litany of “Just hang on, we’re almost there.” and “I need you to hang on” (“I need you”, not we, not Christopher, “I need you”) was really hard to watch, because even though we all read and wrote it in fanfics thousands of times, watching it actually play out was heartbreaking, I totally teared up with Buck there.🥺🥺
For firefighters the job ends at the hospital doors, so Buck naturally, out of instinct stops from following. But that’s Eddie taken away from him and he looks frozen, at that moment he must have thousands of thoughts running around his head.
“You ok Buckley?”
Buck’s broken “No.” was maybe expected, but it was also earth shattering of sorts. This is Buck standing there, knowing (especially after the well incident) that when Eddie is not okay, he’s not either. 😭❤
I want to point out that I loved the fact that the 133 didn’t just drive away or waited outside for the cops, they went in after Eddie. And after trying to check in on Buck, the Captain of the 133 went in too.
I’m going to point out a parallel here between S3 Finale and S4 finale, in 3x18 Eddie asks Buck if he’s ok as his ex-girlfriend was taken in the ambulance with her new fiancé, Buck’s response was “What’s next?” and going back to work. He was okay, because Eddie was with him, and there was still work to be done.
Here in 4x14, Eddie is taken from him to the hospital, and Buck doesn’t know if he’ll live, so Buck’s obvious answer here is ‘No’.
Later we see Buck exiting the hospital, in his firefighter uniform. I’m a little disappointed we don’t see him cleaning up, I know that could have made for a hell of a scene, Oliver would have killed it, and us in my opinion.
Taylor is coming to the hospital, not as a reporter but as a friend. She was worried. I like that side of her, when she knows to put away the reporter and to make sure her friend is in one piece. Her character development is shown beautifully in this scene.
Buck, in no condition to pretend and speak to the press, turns away from her, he doesn’t trust her at that moment and he doesn’t trust himself not to break down there. He’s teary, still in shock and his hands are shaking like crazy. (in complete contrast to the usual Buck, where he can be in danger or wrap up a crazy rescue and he is normally completely steady.)
Taylor, offered to take Buck to Eddie’s house to see Christopher, telling him he can’t go see Chris looking like he does now. “You can’t got see his son like that.” - At first hear and several others it sounded like “Your son.” - of course it’s not but either way it would have been true too, because in a way Buck has been co-parenting Christopher for a very long time now. And indeed later when Buck gets to Eddie’s house he is washed and dressed in civilian clothes.
The scene with Oli and Gavin killed me! I thought for sure the breaking down will be done in private, but Buck couldn’t hold it together in front of Christopher once he found out Eddie is going to be ok, and Christopher comforting Buck was so so sweet.
Christopher’s “like the ones who fixed you?” Kind of gives us a certain idea as to the conversation Eddie had to have with Christopher when Buck was hurt. His sweet “Then he’s going to be ok,” he says it with such conviction, only adding “right?” only as an afterthought.
And as if he manifested it himself Buck then gets a text from Bobby that tells him that Eddie pulled through surgery and it looks good.
Buck actually dropped the phone from the relief and he started to cry, and sweet, adorable, national treasure Christopher puts an arm around him and tells him that Eddie is going to be okay. I definitely cried with Buck here. It was such a powerful scene and it was portrayed so well by Oliver and Gavin.
The “it’s going to be okay Buck” was kind of a call back to 3x01 - when Christopher reassures Buck and tells him “You’re going to be okay kid.” - I love these two together so much! ❤❤
When Bobby gives them the talk in the firehouse about how they proceed from there, Buck is standing with his arms crossed, looking completely dejected. And when Hen asks about the safety of their families, Bobby says there's no reason to believe they are in danger, Buck pipes in with “We didn’t have a reason to believe Eddie will get shot helping a kid either.” Buck is traumatized, and worried, he sleeps at Eddie’s house looking after Christopher.
I loved Christopher waking Buck up, and them having cereal breakfast together, a call back to Eddie and Christopher having breakfast together in 2x04. Buck doesn’t sit next to Chris, but across from him - to me it says that the seat between them is usually reserved to Eddie when they’re together at the house.
I love how Christopher’s teasing Buck about him snoring. And Buck is later confused because he’s unsure of whether or not Chris really understands what’s happening, but Carla assures him that he already lost his mother, unfortunately he understands better than he or she thinks. Which again should give people a new appreciation for Christopher’s sunshine child attitude.🥺❤
Carla showing up to take Christopher to school, is showing relief that Buck could finally sleep, which means that he didn’t for at least a couple of nights. She’s also asking him how it feels to go to work, Buck doesn’t even think about the sniper, for him all that matters is that Eddie is not out there with him and it feels off. (call back to 2x18 when Eddie seemed pensive about being back at work but Buck was not with them.)
Carla, bless her, retorts that that is not what she was asking - obviously she meant, she was worried about the sniper, but that is not Buck’s main worry, his head and his heart are somewhere else.
The crane scene was insane! I laughed when Chimney looked to Bobby and asked him “Can you blame him cap?” and Bobby flat out responded “Yeah!” 😂
The rescue was really impressive. However if Eddie ever found out about this he would probably hit Buck over the head with something heavy. It just goes to show that Eddie is Buck’s impulse control and vice-versa.
Bobby and Buck’s interaction wasn’t one of anger, Bobby was terrified and Buck was guilty but unapologetic, because he couldn’t protect Eddie but he could protect the rest of his family, so he did just that. Bobby didn’t have anything to say other than give him the same response Eddie did in Monsters - “Don’t do it again.” - Because for one, in my opinion, Bobby knows where Buck is coming from and also Bobby knows, he knows Eddie is Buck’s impulse control, knows he’s his anchor, he knows that Buck will only be his relatively normal self when Eddie comes back.
I’m not even going to touch the Taylor scene, yes she was worried, and yes she scolded him in a friendly way, but that kiss felt so out of left field for me, especially since Buck was just packing a bag to go stay with Christopher and Eddie was still unconscious at the hospital.
Also she freaking friendzoned him last episode, how fickle do male writers think women are? She gets a little scared and kisses the guy? Lucky they didn’t write in a sex scene! That was an insult to women everywhere in my opinion. It could have been set in so many better opportunities, why now? And if she’s scared now what’s to say that won’t make her leave like Ali did? I have a whole tirade about it but I will let it go for now.
Now I know ya’ll are like - Eddie woke up because his spidey senses told him someone was kissing his Buck (and I do not negate that point lol), but he just woke up and he asked for Buck. I find it so deliriously endearing that I need a moment even as I’m writing this.🤗🤗
I have to point out that there is no scene of Buck, Eddie and she who will not be name together other than the second when Buck walks in (read ran through the hospital corridors) and Eddie has only eyes for his partner. 👀❤
Afterwards it just the two of them, with a brief facetime to Christopher. I love that Eddie thanks Buck for staying with Chris, and Buck pretty much breaks down the logic behind the decision, like a true parent. - Christopher’s comfort came first in Buck’s eyes, and really that just demanded a hug right there.
“Is he doing ok?”
Buck’s response here, was very honest, a lot more honest than I expected, “better than me.” He said. Buck openly admits to Eddie, “I kinda lost it when I told him you got shot. I’m sorry I should have held it together.” To be honest, I’m very curious as to the ins and outs of Buck and Eddie’s friendship, especially during quarantine, they seem so much closer, a lot more open. More honest than you'd expect two male, straight, lead characters to be with their friends.
Buck would have played it down and shared only the essentials when it’s anybody else. With Eddie he openly saying here, in his own way, ‘I was terrified, and heartbroken, and ‘couldn’t imagine my world without you.’ - ‘I couldn’t function with a clear head.’ - ‘all my masks were shattered.’
“You were there for him when I couldn’t be, that’s what matters.” Eddie knows, buck, he understands him better than anyone, he’s telling him here in his own way that it’s okay, and he loves him just the way he is - it was his way to reassure Buck that he was doing just fine.
But Buck’s “Still I think it might have been better for him if I was the one who got shot.” - Eddie looked like he was ready to get up and smack some sense into Buck.
I want to point out that Buck’s response to Eddie being hurt or in danger is nowhere near the same as his response to anyone else in danger. Case in point in 4x14 is Bobby, he is inside, probably injured, in a fire with a gunman - if it was Eddie, Buck would have waited 0.1 seconds before he disappeared back into the flames to help Eddie.
With Bobby, he was calm, cool, calculated, he knew what Athena would do because that’s exactly what he would have done if it had been Eddie and he is ready with helpful details and a plan. He wants to go with her, but doesn’t argue when she says no.
Eddie is Buck’s Bobby, and it reflects all throughout this episode, and I think I had some parallels pointed out in 4x13 too. So I don’t know what scripts Tim reads or if we’re all watching the same show but buddie exists and thriving as far as I’m concerned.
Buck is also the one to pick Eddie up at the hospital - he tells him that the nurse is getting his meds and discharge papers ready, which means that Buck did all that process, he was busy getting Eddie discharged. (Take a moment to soak it in.)😌
Eddie sits Buck down to talk, to be honest this talk went pretty much the way I expected it.
Eddie explains why he had his will updated, and that Buck is Christopher’s legal guardian if anything happens to Eddie. - I love that after all this time, sweet Buck is still surprised.
He asks if Eddie didn’t need his consent for this and Eddie’s reply is: “My attorney said you could refuse.”
I also love, that even shell-shocked, Buck knows that Eddie knows him “You know I wouldn’t.”
And Eddie assures him that he does in fact know Buck, and he knows that Buck loves Christopher as much as Eddie does “I know you wouldn’t.”
(”I had to do it.” - “Yeah, I know you did.” this was a call back to 4x05 where Eddie understood why Buck did what he did. And knowing what we know now, I can assume that even though Eddie understood and forgave Buck, he didn’t have to like it.)
“No one will ever fight for my son as hard as you.” - call back to 3x03 anyone?
“There’s no one I trust with my son more than you.” - and Eddie proves it time and again.
And here he is basically giving Buck permission to give hell to his parents or anyone who tries to take Christopher away from His Buck. - And I love it!! 🤗❤
Buck, smart, handsome guy that he is, asks the right question again - “Why are you just telling me now?”
“Because Evan.” That first name that even took Buck by surprise, because Eddie only ever called him Buck, to our knowledge anyway. - Eddie was talking to Evan Buckley, not Buck, and yes they are two separate entities living inside one hunky firefighter. - This is Eddie saying, I know you’re frayed around the edges, I know I’m asking for a lot right now but I need you to hear me.
“You came in here the other day and you said it would have been better if you who were the one who was shot,” and I think for Eddie, who was lying on that firetruck floor bleeding out, and his only concern was that Buck may have been hurt, that was the worst thing Buck could have said.
“you act like you’re expandable but you’re wrong.”
Eddie has been where Buck is at that moment, losing his wife, watching his best friend nearly die time and again. - Really at this point Eddie just wants him safe, and if telling him about Christopher is what will do the trick, then he is not above playing dirty.
Eddie is telling Buck, you are my partner, you are Christopher's second parent, I love you, Christopher loves you, I don’t know what I’d do without you. - Because Eddie has been without Buck before and he was completely lost. - And that’s before they became even more intertwined as they are now.
I love the second before Buck and Eddie enter, Eddie’s house, before Buck opens the door, Eddie looks like he’s steeling himself to get in and Buck has a knowing grin on his face, somewhere between ‘ready?’ and ‘they’re happy you’re back be nice.’ 👀😂
I hated the jump forward, but everyone standing on the roof looking good and Eddie with those sunglasses? wow!! 🥵🤩
This was an all out buddie episode, and I was totally there for it!! I really hope for many more, because these two give me life!!

I just.. why did it even need to be Taylor at the hospital, making sure Buck cleans up before going to see Chris, driving him? It could have been Bobby, Chim, anyone really. Someone who has a reason to be there, who Buck trusts and who knows and cares about Buck and Eddie’s bond and realizes he needs to be the one to tell Chris. Chris doesn’t even know Taylor, so why have her drive him over there? Just so she can be in another scene and suddenly we’re supposed to be like “Oh, she cares about him so much! She’s so selfless! He better see that and start dating her so that we know he’s over the abandonment issues suddenly because she showed up and didn’t even want the story!” when Buck’s first instinct is that HE doesn’t even trust her not to be after the story? And when it was Eddie who did the heavy lifting in making Buck see that he’s not expendable, her having literally done nothing? It just felt super forced to me to add her into an already very ‘full’ finale and it took away from both Eddie’s story and recovery (literally making his storyline about Buck and Taylor) and Bathena (which honestly was very rushed, I hope they come back to this in S5 because that’s not how quickly you start and resolve marital issues...) - And then she’s suddenly so ingrained in their lives she’s at Eddie’s welcome home party with just his family and girlfriend? When we’ve never seen them interact beyond the initial hostility and Buck never even told Eddie they’re suddenly dating now? I know I’m in the minority with not being here for BuckTaylor but as much as I love her character (finally not a doormat Mary Sue!) and the actress is great, they have not done anything that convinces me they’re a good fit beyond they’re hot (although they kinda look like siblings..). I mean, I was 100% convinced from the beginning that they’d have them get together in the finale because that’s just how TV shows work when you have a storyline like they did with two attractive male/female leads, but I was hoping I’d be wrong and they’d actually surprise us with them truly just being friends or something smart and not completely predictable.

“You can’t keep ignoring this.” - Read on AO3
.
Buck is very fond of denial.
What a neat trick it is! He has a problem, then he won’t think about it until it either goes away on its own (it rarely does) or it comes back to bite him in the ass (it usually does).
Either way, denial is great.
Take for example his non-platonic, very romantic feelings for his best friend.
Buck could confess. He could also try to move on from this unrequited situation.
Instead of doing either of these things, he buries his head in the sand and pretends he has no problem breathing at all. No, he has no heavy weight sitting on his chest at all times, and maybe if he repeats if enough it will become true.
So what if he still overthinks every interaction he has with Eddie? That’s his business, no matter what his sister may think.
“You can’t keep ignoring this,” she says – again.
She says it a lot. His answer is pretty much always the same.
“Actually, I can. And I think I will. This is working great for me so far. It’s like Schrödinger’s confession, if I don’t say anything, Eddie can’t reject me.”
Maddie rolls her eyes with such force Buck expects them to fly out. Everyone tells him he is dramatic but if he is, it’s only because he grew up raised by one Maddie Buckley.
He is grateful for her being eight month pregnant, otherwise she would have already dragged him to Eddie and force him to confess.
Unaware that he is being bullied, the extended family of the 118 is talking and laughing excitedly in the other room. He longs to join them so that he can go back to ignoring his feelings.
“Don’t be daft,” she tells him.
“Eddie loves you.” “Yeah, he does – as a friend.” She goes to protest again but he presses on before she can. “Look, Maddie, I see what you’re trying to do and I know you worry about me but the truth is, I can’t risk this. Eddie and Christopher mean too much to me and I can’t risk losing them because of my big dumb messy feelings.”
Her face goes from annoyed to sad, almost pitiful.
“So, no. If Eddie feels the same way, he has to make the first move because I can’t.”
She sighs and for a moment, they bask in this tired silence.
Then, she says, “Your feelings aren’t dumb.”
Buck can’t help but snort at this and she smiles too though it’s shadowed by all that which they never mention.
They know that they did not grow up as children should, that their parents never showed them how to love and be loved and that both of them have searched for belonging and love in the wrong places. Maybe, if they had been taught the definition of love, Buck would have had a braver heart.
Guilt rears its head at seeing his sister’s dimmed smile knowing that he is the cause of it, and so he hurries to change the subject – anything to make her laugh freely again.
Soon, he forgets about this discussion. It’s one he has had many times with Maddie, and with Hen too, and with Bobby, awkwardly too, that one time.
He knows people think Eddie might love him back the way Buck wants to, but, if so, why isn’t he doing anything about it?
Eddie isn’t the one with everything to lose.
.
It’s not until three days later that Buck is reminded of the conversation.
Eddie and him are painting Christopher’s room as a surprise for his birthday.
It was actually Buck’s idea but Eddie loved it and the two of them spent several hours deciding on a new color scheme for the room.
Well, in truth, the whole team got involved and it was of course Hen’s pick that got chosen, at Chim’s good-natured protest, which made Buck very happy because Chim refused to listen to Buck’s input about his nephew’s room.
“I need to tell you something,” Eddie blurts out, stilling mid-movement in his painting.
Buck almost tells him to finish it or it’ll leave a trace but the seriousness on his best friend’s stop him.
“Okay?” And no, Buck isn’t worried all of the sudden. At all. “What is it? Wait, are you okay? Is Chris okay?”
“Yes. We’re fine. I just – listen, I love you.”
Buck beams though his heart clenches in yearning – Eddie doesn’t mean it like that.
“Aw, I love you too, man.”
Eddie shakes his head. He steps down from the stool he was perched on. Absentmindedly, Buck mourns the trace that will be left on the wall. This is the third coat, they won’t have enough paint to do a fourth one.
Maybe they can put a picture to hide it later on?
“No, Buck,” Eddie protests. “I love you. As in, I’m in love with you.”
Buck blinks. And then, for good measure, he blinks once more but the scene is still the same – Eddie, earnest, looking at him with soft, imploring eyes.
“You’re – what?” Buck can’t process this.
Is he in a coma and no one has had the decency to tell him? Has he been gravely injured on the job and this is is mind’s conjured wishful scenario right before he dies?
“I’m in love with you, Buck,” Eddie repeats breathlessly. “I am. I’ve wanted to tell you for so long but I never could bring myself to.”
“What changed?” he asks almost despite himself.
He can’t believe this is truly happening. It all feels so much like a dream that he is half expecting to wake up any minute now in his bed with his heart crushed.
“I couldn’t keep ignoring this.”
Something stirs in Buck’s memory that he can’t quite place but he is too busy staring with adoration at the love of his life to focus on it.
“Yeah?”
“Yeah,” Eddie replies with a soft smile. “It was all so easy to live in denial because, if I never told you, I was safe. Like Schrödinger’s confession.”
Buck stills. The memory comes back to him and it all clicks.
His conversation with Maddie at the 118’s monthly barbecue.
“You heard?”
Eddie shrugs, sheepish. “In my defense, you were speaking really loud and I was just in the other room.”
“I – I don’t know what to say.”
“Maybe say you love me too? Just so that I know you weren’t joking around with Maddie.”
That’s when it hits him. Eddie is as nervous as Buck has always felt when thinking about confessing. He looks like a man who is scared he is about to lose everything.
“I love you,” he cries out hurriedly. “Of course I love you but you – you? Like, you have feelings for me? Romantic ones?”
Eddie laughs with such relief that Buck can’t help but laugh too.
“How could I not fall in love with you, Evan Buckley? You’re everything.”
And when they kiss, Buck can finally breathe again.
Maybe denial isn’t all that he’s made it out to be.
Being free and in love has its perks too.
