so far, the only thing i dislike about linux/fedora is the "middle-click is pasting" thing, which if i understand correctly is a "liked feature" since forever and therefore difficult to change.
as a person who uses middle-click for scrolling, i hate it 🙃
#latmos linux chronicles#also people almost get defensive over it when others ask about disabling it#scrolling with middle click just seems natural#like its the same button you use to move up and down#and ctrl+v is easy enough

Thou shalt have no other Gods before me includes Jesus
Jesus would be completely disappointed to discover that his modern base of followers decided to worship him instead his actual instructions to revere, worship and praise our father and source which is the greater universe which we are all part of. Our father not being an abstract concept but something we can see with our own eyes by simply looking above.
Other potential let downs include:
Praying to Jesus instead of tapping into Holy Spirit, the very real cosmic force that exists on a cosmic and celestial level, permeating the entire universe and binding us all together. Something that studyers of quantum physics and quantum mechanics will eventually confirm as the omnipresent quantum field of the universe, that we all have had access to and utilized at one point or another. Those innate feelings of intuition are derived from this cosmic force that is not limited to human concepts of time, it knows the past present and future which all collapses into the infinite present moment once you surrender to its guidance rather than your ego. Such a force can be trusted with absolutely everything since it knows the best possible path for you and hence those moments of intuition that we've all felt at some point or another. You can choose to either inadvertently access it or voluntarily access it. Jesus taught us to rely on it completely rather than our egos which can only speculate about the future but never know it with the confidence that the Holy Spirit of the universe knows. Our egos also have a habit of self sabotaging us, throwing us in the worst possible path because it seemed like a good idea at the time. The Holy Spirit of the universe on the other hand has our best interest at heart and the best road to take. If you possess a broken GPS that only works sometimes and one that takes you on the best possible route, why wouldn't you choose the latter?
Very few churches emphasize the act of forgiving as much as possible. Any mild or major bruising of our egos needs to be forgiven as soon as they happen. This need to be practiced until you reach a point where nothing can phase you. A true follower of Jesus' teachings has impenetrable armor and everything rolls off their back. This not only means forgiving minor jabs at your ego like someone not saying thank you or holding the door for you, but also major things like a spouse cheating on you. For those major ones, in the interest of restoring overall peace in the universe, don't be shy about reaching out to them to forgive them. If you have bad blood or unresolved conflicts with someone, settle them. Send them your blessings and love. The natural order of the universe is peace and love, and your contribution towards restoring that on a global and universal level goes a lot father than you think. It puts you back in harmony with the greater universe as well.
Make it a habit not to judge others, in a real day to day application of this teaching. That means when you see a homeless person on the street, an overweight person on the street, someone whose life has devolved into a drug addiction, someone you find unattractive, someone dressed scantily clad on the street, a group of cigarette smokers on the street, anyone who has made poor regrettable decisions in their life that led them on the wrong path, etc. Whenever you catch yourself doing this, stop immediately. Instead reaffirm to yourself that they are your brothers and sisters, united and one as children and products of the greater universe which we are all part of. Declare in your consciousness that we are not separate from each other, we are all one. Judgment, no matter how minor is a result of our egos trying to elevate ourselves above others, essentially breaking the unity that is necessary to experience a spiritual awakening.
Helping out any panhandlers, suffering homeless people on the street puts you back in the ultimate harmony with the universe in addition to declaring a release of any attachment to money.
Buy them a sandwich if you're able. They will be thrilled. This is an understated instruction from Jesus and it puts you back in alignment and harmony with the greater universe, pushing it closer towards total happiness and peace by helping others. Declare in your consciousness that the welfare of your brothers and sisters is more important than the money in your pocket.
Declare that the money and things you own does not belong to you but it belongs to the greater universe and to ask for guidance on how to use it.
"In peace, I release all attachments to money and all material things I own. Use it as you will father. The most important thing is unlocking and activating the spiritual bliss present within me Jesus referred to as heaven. Guide my words, steps, actions towards this end during my life. I also release all attachments to this body, this identity and this life. This body is not who I am, I am a reflection of you, and I ask to be guided by your spirit on the path you have determined for me. I surrender completely to your will and your plan for me. I recognize that there is no death, we are eternal beings, so I release all fear of death, as death is not real. It is a temporary passing of our egos and bodies but we start anew upon completion of this particular journey. I release all fear during my life as I know the Holy Spirit is guiding me on the best possible path while also keeping us out of the way of any potential harm.
In summary
The truth is, many Christians today are not experiencing spiritual awakening or enlightenment because they’ve strayed from the core of Jesus’ message. Rather than directing their praise and devotion to our greater Source, the divine intelligence Jesus referred to as our Father, they have redirected that worship onto Jesus himself. In doing so, they are inadvertently doing the very opposite of what he taught.
This misalignment is further compounded by the widespread neglect of his actual instructions. Few churches emphasize the daily practices Jesus called for, such as radical forgiveness, surrender to the Holy Spirit, or love for all without judgment. Instead, many have adopted the belief that simply declaring faith in Jesus is enough, without embodying the path he laid out.
While some of his teachings have been referenced earlier in this article, many more are explored throughout the other writings on this blog for those who wish to deepen their understanding.
A true understanding of his teachings not only triggers a spiritual awakening and enlightenment, it helps us recognize that we too, not just Jesus, are one with what he called our father, the greater universe above us which we are all a part of and products of.

Copy, and then Paste! : A Post About Introjection
You know it—the title is based off the Ctrl C and Ctrl V function from computers, but did you know we have our own version too?
Introjection is more than just mimicry or replicating something though, it apparently plays a far more important role than you'd initially thought. Want to know the answer? Let's check it out then! (not a clickbait)
Okay google, what is: to introject
Out of 1253 results, here is the recommended definition,
"Introjection occurs when a person internalizes the ideas or voices of other people" from Therapist Development Center
From the related result, here are top 3 examples: - When you internalize the idea of "crying is for the weak" - When you believe that you're not good enough - "I must dress pretty so i am socially accepted"
You can introject many sorts of things such as behaviors, mindsets, beliefs, traits, concepts or even feelings.
Articles on: How introjection happens
Well, it is a very complex process on how introjection happens, or why. But this search engine (me) will try to explain the whole concept to you in a simplified manner!
We have started to introject many things ever since a child, the world is difficult on its own to learn from scratch, which is why taking in qualities and behaviors from what we expose ourselves to the most shapes how we navigate the world.
Call it a framework to work with,, it is used to learn manners, or understand how to respond to a certain situation by observing, then, these values are internalized, importantly shaping us as we grow older. Though, introjection doesn't understand good or bad qualities as they're seen as "the truth" to one's mind, therefore it's possible to introject literally anything.
It can also function as a defense mechanism, where we adopt these values and internalize them in order to cope, or to repeat similar tactics that proved to be successful for the previous person. For example, if you were bullied, bullying back will mitigate the hurt you could receive in the future. This generally represents fictives and persecutors respectively, though varies for each person.
Fictive.. Factive.. What is that, Siri??
There are many kinds of introjects.. they can be based from fictional medias, real people, or even concepts like art or songs. But what the??
Easy now, sure the amount of introject kinds could throw anyone off, but the concept still stands true, though it gets trickier when it comes to other introjected concepts such as OCtives or Songtives, which i will explain too.
Thing is, what will help you understand many different kinds of them existing, is envisioning that introjection operates in a spectrum. Thats right, they are on a scale.
The idea is that introjection exists in a continuum. Just like how alters have varying degrees of development (a shard, or fragment), this scale is not meant to simplify or categorize things in its literal sense, but to help visualize and understand the level of complexities.
The level of complexity of a scale lies at what it/you introjected: Lvl 1: Introjection - the most basic forms can start from traits, ideas, or concepts. Example: Alters that formed off songs, art, thoughts, and even feelings. Lvl 2: Internalization - then getting to more fledged values like behaviors, life views. Example: Persecutors who had internalized negative attitudes from abusers. Lvl 3: Identification - and then lastly, when you identify the qualities of a specific person. Example: General Introjects, Fictives, Factives. (identification varies in intensity)
Sometimes, these introjected qualities are absorbed by multiple alters or by oneself. If it does not get absorbed to a pre-existing part, a new alter will be created to contain these qualities that it has internalized instead.
An introject possessing multiple sources from different aspects is also possible due to this process. (these three terms are originally interchangeable as they are under an umbrella of introjection, but i prefer to use them to represent each levels)
There's no result on the internet..
"What bests explains multiple introjects of the same source? What's with source separation? What about the memories that comes with said source?" Might be the search history in your phone right now, It's okay to stop searching, your answers are right under these fingertips!
Duplication of sources
When it comes to multiple parts of the same or similar source, it can be due to reasons like current hyperfixation or resonating with the qualities of said media. It can as be simple as wanting to have the same qualities from the media, too. Lastly, comorbids like autism and BPD plays a factor on how often you will introject.
Even duplicates will not act the same as the other one, which means each can introject different things from the same source, in different intensity or variation or alternative versions of source.
Additionally, being polyfragmented increases the amount of fragments/alters that could form, thus contributing to higher chances of having duplicates.
Source separating
When one introjected the qualities of a person/media, there might be a chance they identify as person/media due to it. The idea is that when one associates these qualities directly to the person, which then has a feedback loop where because the specific qualities are present, means they are that person.
Continuing from the example of bullying to not get bullied, they might see themselves just like the bully from the past due internalizing its behavior, in general this is equivalent to identification. Any negative or positive qualities can be introjected that later grow to identification.
The notion of needing to source separate is not something that have to be forced upon immediately. As it should be a transient process where one has to detach from the current sense of identity with one that is original.
No one can be 100% free from introjection, so source separation would mean minimizing the intensity of identification while developing a more whole sense of true self.
Being attached to a source in some level can be a positive outcome to implement, especially if it reinforces positive emotions or memories. As long it is not causing harm to anyone, since sometimes the urge to become the source or convincing of being one can be destructive.
Source memories
Remember something that had happened to you, but never happened to the body? It doesn't mean the memory itself is entirely fake, it is more to abstract context like how dreams manifests according to how you feel on a specific situation.
Just like dreams, the whole accident may never have happened in reality, but it is reenacting what had happened in the past with its own version/remake.
This happens when the true event is too much to take in or remember. When you cannot remember what truly happened, the somatic and emotional aspects to the trauma is still intact. Which contributes to why these fake memories aren't entirely fake.
Its good to take note that having a memory of going through an event, that doesn't happen bodily, never means you do understand the true experience of such event. It's only the impressions and assumptions of it.
With that being said, you can understand what your source memories are trying to convey by matching up similarities in your current life, or uncover how you feel or think of the event. Then, you can start healing whatever was left unresolved.
A scroll to the end of the web
Basically to reiterate things, we do copy and paste people's qualities for a living. But, not as a mere function like how computers implemented it.
Don't forget to consider who you will be friends with and how it'll impact you socially, and double-check whether you have adopted someone's essence that doesn't serve a meaningful purpose for you. You do become what you are exposed to, just like how you are what you eat.
Feel free to let us know your introject experiences, it could help validate someone else's experience, too!

Note
i must confess, i hate how the plushies look.
so im going to explain why as well, sorry for the V likers
- V's plushie is the most fucked up, her face proportions are completely off because her mouth section isnt big enough, pulling down where her eyes are, which gives her a massive forehead. It's kinda like they designed her with her head leaning/looking downwards, and then didn't move the hair with it?
- N's plushie has flat felt fabric looking hair for absolutely no reason, as far as i can tell he is on gen2 of his plushie, and I read that some assumed they had a lower production budget, thus N looking the cheapest of the bunch. give my boy his beautiful hair back!!
- Uzi's plushie is mostly fine, but the hair has a lack of detail texture, its like 1 step above N's hair but kinda just looks like playdough formed into the shape of hair without any feature lines to give the hair strands depth
- Dog N doesn't have any other reference material and exists solely as a simple dog plush, so he is fine. looks very kickable like uzi's mom
- Crow Uzi is a good recreation of the Ep5 crow, with an added beanie. Although the added white belly area is a weird touch, no opinion, she is fine. looks very holdable like hamburger
- N head. it is... (opens Autodesk AutoCAD, ctrl-v image, convert to vector lines, ctrl-c sketch, opens Autodesk Inventor, ctrl-v sketch, scale 12x11 in, extrude additive 4in, export). yea the N head plushie is extremely meh, what i just described is how "easy" it would be to make a 3d model of the N head plushie, its literally a flat texture extruded into a 3d shape, and it costs *more* than the regular N plushie
and finally...
- J's plushie. how fucking ironic that the character with the highest standards gets the best looking plushie. J is literally perfect. her hair? on fleek. outfit? baller. facial structure? perfectly displeased with you. J is the best plushie.

PLKeyboard Week 0
Hello! I am Phoenix Lightning. You can also find me at the account @phoenixacxf! I am a college student and I am neurodivergent. Today's hyperfixation is keyboard layouts! So, I decided I'm going to start creating my own keyboard layout. This page is so I can document the process. Right now, I am going to be logging everything I write and start creating my layout at the end of the upcoming week. I will make updates every week or so on my commonly used words, letters, bigrams, and digraphs. Every month, I will try to update the PLKeyboard layout. Within this first month, I will update it weekly. I want to show the evolution of the layout as I create it.
I currently main on the Colemak keyboard layout, so I plan on using it most of the time. As I continue to post, and as I continue to create the layout, I might swap to it.
This layout is going to be made specifically for me, hence why I will be calling it the PLKeyboard. I am going to be prioritizing the following things:
The ctrl+z, ctrl+x, ctrl+c, and ctrl+v layouts should be easy to use (as such, the z, x, c, and v keys will stay in the same spots as in QWERTY and Colemak)
I am left handed, as such, I want to prioritize key usage on my left hand.
I want it to be easy to type bigrams and trigrams. Common groups of two and three letters should feel nice to type.
I want to minimize movement across the keys.
I want to prioritize index finger usage.
As I do more testing, these priorities may change and whatnot. I am unsure on if I want to use the middle row as my home row. I am thinking I may want to use the top or bottom row as my home row. I will do ergonomic testing eventually.
Something I will note is that I will also eventually test out split keyboards and other ergonomic modifications to see if I prefer them. This could drastically change how the layout ends up being.
I will probably not start using this layout for a few months, just some minor testing. I only just started on Colemak so I want to continue to use it as well.
Why am I making this? Only because I want to try it out and experiment. I like Colemak over QWERTY, so I want to see if I can find something I like more than Colemak. If this gets enough of a following, I may open a google forms where you all can input your own text samples so that I can start optimizing this for a larger group of people. I want this to work well for Gen Z in that scenario. In this scenario, I would make both a right handed and left handed layout.
Anyways, without further ado, let's show you guys my top ten letters, words, bigrams, and trigrams as judged based on various writings i had on my google drive (that are purely my writing).
My top ten letters are:
E (not surprising)
T (also not surprising)
A
O
I
N
H
S
R
D
My top ten words are:
the (not suprising)
and
to
I
a

of

you
it
My top ten bigrams are:
TH
HE
AN
IN
RE
ND
ER
ED
EA
ST
My top ten trigraphs are:
THE
AND
ING
HIS
ERE
YOU
HAT

STA
FOR
In order to calculate my letters, bigrams, and trigrams, I used this app: https://www.dcode.fr/frequency-analysis
For words, I used this: https://www.online-utility.org/text/analyzer.jsp
So, that's what this stage looks like! Get ready for concept 1 which will come out next week!

in my defense my current laptop is nearing a decade old and has two broken keys (AS IN COMPLETELY NON-FUNCTIONAL NOT JUST A KEY CAP BEING OFF) and ONE OF THEM IS THE LETTER E....
ive had to find ways to remap the E key at the very least bc copying and pasting it is a pain. for some reason actually remapping it would do NOTHING so i had to use autohotkey scripts to remap them........
but ofc that only works on windows so when i boot linux idk what to do (im retarded im not really an experienced user w any linux distros) . wlel i just copy and paste but it gets so old. and even copy-pasting is annoying as shit bc the letter V is the other broken one. you know. i cant fucking ctrl+v so its an even BIGGER pain in the fucking ass than normal.
anyway all this to say i fucking splurged because i wanted as much future-proofing as possible. and ofc i also prioritized the build quality a lot bc i dont want to end up dealing with non-functioning keys..... I'd rather it be somewhat viable for 10 years. maybe even more bc apparently the ram and gpu/cpu are upgradeable? well theyre not soldered to the board so it's possible if they're the right size at least ig. but would be amazing bc if i need to upgrade i can just go all out on that shit. i mean the screen isnt super duper amazing (it's like a 2K IPS screen) so idk that may still be a reason upgrade but eeehhh. maybe i will actually be knowledgeable enough to do something about it if possible by that point?? but either way. if it lasts 10 years I'll be happy.
id get a desktop but the issue is uhhh my space is a mess always and I'd rather have something really easy to move around. eventually one day maybe (but idk bc i want to be nomadic anyway.... maybe ill find ways to build my own though)
#I could google how to remap the keys on the distro family of the linux os i use ig but ive been busy with other things lmao#(trying to genericize google trademark so they can lose their rights :3)

Hah, had to drag up 20-ish years old memories of how to do this, since that's the last time I needed to know it offhand, BUT:
Assuming you are on a Windows machine; open the directory your images are in. Right click and create a new text file. Name it something like "filelist.bat" (the bat extension stands for batch file if you're not old enough to actually remember that).
Right click and edit the filelist.bat file. You need a single line command in it:
dir *.* > filelist.txt
That's the command to do a directory listing of every file matching the wildcard *.* into a file named filelist.txt
Save the file. Double click the file. A file named filelist.txt will appear. Open it in a text editor, you'll see something like this:
That's the directory listing of all the files in that directory. Now the way to make this useful for your purpose... open your favourite spreadsheet program. Mine at the moment is LibreOffice Calc.
In the text editor hit CTRL-A to select all, then CTRL-C to copy what you have selected, and then in the spreadsheet click in the first cell and hit CTRL-V to paste. You'll get a popup dialog. Turn off delimiting data using spaces:
Click okay, You'll now have a spreadsheet that looks something like this:
Delete those first 7 rows of data you don't need. Use find to locate the line entries for your filelist.bat and possibly filelist.txt as well and also delete those entries.
TADAH! Complete spreadsheet list of all the named files in your directory of choice. Easy line numbers on the left.
Any time you want to you can re-run filelist.bat and paste the newest results in to replace the old spreadsheet.
Theoretically someone here will know this:
My meme folder has over 1200 images saved in it. Sometimes I like to tell people to pick a number and they receive the corresponding image, but the folder is getting... Large. Is there a way to go "bring me image #657" or "bring me a randomly selected image from this folder"?

How to use computer
a guide from someone good at using computers
TikTok or Instagram or something would probably be a better place to spread this kinda knowledge, but that’s too much effort right now.
This will mostly be windows focused.
Basic computer maintenance:
Keep dust out of the fans, and try to clean them from time to time if you can. This helps prevent overheating. Using your laptop on top of your blankets in bed is a great way to suck up lots of dust and overheat it all at once. Put a book under it or something.
Turn your computer off when not using it. Do so by shutting it down, not with the power button.
Leave automatic updates on. These are usually security updates, and they help keep you safe from viruses and such. Windows 10 is still receiving security updates last I checked.
Shortcuts
(most of these have a Mac equivalent with command instead of control)
Many of these can also be done by right clicking the relevant object or place on the screen, but shortcuts are faster in the long run.
ctrl+c: copy the selected text or object to the clipboard (invisible space for holding copied stuff. Only holds one thing at a time, so be careful!)
ctrl+x: copies the selected thing, and deletes it at the same time. Good for moving things around.
ctrl+v: pastes whatever was copied into whatever area was last clicked.
ctrl+z: undo.
ctrl+y: the lesser-known and lesser-used redo. Not every program will have this command, or will have this as the redo command, but a lot do.
ctrl+alt+delete: On Windows, opens Task Manager. Task manager can be used to see which program is making your computer run slow, and close misbehaving programs.
alt+f4: close the current window. Sometimes works for frozen programs, but Task Manager is more reliable.
alt+shift+tab: on Chrome and Firefox and probably some other browsers, reopens whatever tab was just closed. Can be used multiple times in a row.
ctrl+b: Makes the selected text bold in most text editors.
ctrl+i: Italicizes the selected text in most text editors.
There are lots of different shortcuts in lots of different programs. I recommend looking up “[program name] shortcuts list” for whatever programs you use most! “[program name] cheat sheet” is also usually a great thing to look up.
Stuff to know for school and work
First: learn touch typing. There are lots of different typing games available for free online.
It’s a good idea to try to use a map like this to guide which fingers go to which buttons:
You might not end up following this guide exactly, but this is a good place to start to make sure you don’t end up like Mumbo Jumbo, who presses shift with his thumb or something.
You may think you type fast enough now, but you’ll be able to type so much faster once you can look at the screen instead of the keyboard, and writing essays will hopefully go faster.
For programs, it’s good to have a word processor, a presentation maker, and a spreadsheet maker. You can go with Microsoft Office (often free through your school), Google docs/slides/sheets, or Libre Office.
I don’t know much about Libre Office, but it looks like a good free alternative to Microsoft Office and I may switch to it in the future.
Google’s programs have the advantage of being available on any device, easily transferred, and easy to collaborate on.
Microsoft’s programs typically have much more features, and I would assume the same of LibreOffice.
For anything that needs complex formatting, go with Word or the LibreOffice equivalent. Getting formatting just right in Word is a pain, but with Google Docs it’s worse. Otherwise, Google Docs works fine.
Most people will probably never need all of PowerPoint’s fancy presentation features, so Google Slides should be fine for almost everyone.
Google Sheets is fine if you just want to calculate some grades or sum up some numbers, but it lacks a lot in comparison to Excel. If you plan to take statistics classes, want to do any fancy calculations or formatting, or want to learn to use spreadsheets for fun or profit, I would go with Excel or the LibreOffice equivalent.
Grammarly is a grammar and spelling checker that typically works better than the default systems. It can be installed as a browser extension or Word extension, or you can paste text into the website.
Another way to check your grammar, spelling, and wording is to run text-to-speech on whatever you wrote. Text-to-speech is built into Word, and might be built into Google Docs as well. Text-to-speech is a great way to review what you’ve written and check for errors at the same time.
When submitting written documents, either assignments, resumes, or anything else, it’s usually best to export the document as a PDF and submit that rather than the document file. Document files are for editing, PDFs are for finished products.
Using the Internet
First: your web browser. Microsoft Edge sucks. Most people replace it with Chrome, but Firefox has just about everything Chrome has without letting Google’s grimy fingers get into your data (not as much, anyway).
An adblocker will make websites load faster, prevent you from seeing disturbing or annoying images, and protect you from the many ads that pose a security risk. UBlockOrigin is great. Look up “UBlockOrigin [your browser name]” to find out where you can download it.
Finding information
There’s some kind of post with a bunch of special search engines floating around. I don’t have it on hand though, so here are the typical contenders:
Google: getting worse all the time, but usually I find it gets me the best results. Tracks your search habits and sometimes censors results when governments say to.
Bing: the results often aren’t as good as Google. I’m sure it also tracks you, but at least I haven’t heard about it censoring results.
DuckDuckGo: I usually try this one first, then google if I don’t find what I want. DuckDuckGo is a tracking free search engine. It’s also good for finding piracy websites.
Once you have your search engine, what do you search?
Putting a word or phrase in quotes: “like this”
Only return results that contain that exact word or phrase. Can be helpful when trying to find a very specific source, or when the search engine keeps deciding that a very important word is actually unnecessary.
Only getting results from a specific website or domain: like this site:.edu or like this site:tumblr.com
There are usually often dropdowns and settings that allow the search to be customized further, but I’ve noticed that there tend to be less options available when searching from mobile devices compared to computers.
When the search results are clogged up with meaningless articles and other stuff that seems designed to generate views for ads or to promote products, then it’s time for
site:reddit.com
Results from reddit are hardly the most reliable, but at least they come from real humans! Never use Reddit’s built-in search though, it’s as bad as Tumblr’s.
🏴☠️
Use Firefox as your browser and have UBlock origin installed.
When downloading popular movies, tv shows, and games, I recommend using a VPN to prevent your internet service provider from tracing these downloads back to you. I use NordVPN. I haven’t been able to find a good free VPN that properly masks internet traffic when I’ve looked in the past, but other people might know of one.
Look up “r/piracy masterlist”.
You should find a Reddit post with just about everything you would ever want to download, and links to relevant websites.
Direct downloads are available for lots of things, and are the easy way to go. However, many things will only be available via torrenting.
I wouldn’t recommend torrenting without a good VPN.
To torrent, you just need a torrenting program. I use qBittorrent. Look up a quick tutorial on using it— it’s very straightforward— and have fun.
Diagnosing problems
First: restart the program, restart the computer, whatever applies to the situation. Some programs don’t actually stop running when you close them, such as discord. Task Manager can be used to take care of stragglers.
If that doesn’t apply or doesn’t work, here’s how to look up a computer problem:
Something is wrong with my program:
[best description of problem you can manage][name and version of the program][(optional) Operating System Version ex. Windows 10]
Something is wrong with my computer:
[best description of problem you can manage] [Operating System Version ex. Windows 10][(optional) Model of computer ex. Acer, Lenovo etc.]
When describing the problem, think about what things are working as expected and what things aren’t. Omit extra phrases like “why won’t” and “how come”, though sometimes adding “how to fix” can be helpful.
For old programs or operating systems that have new versions with similar names, it can sometimes be beneficial to use the search engine tools to restrict the results to before a certain date, like 2015. This will keep irrelevant discussions about modern versions from clogging up your results.
Some examples of searches using these formats:
microphone detected but no audio windows 10 Lenovo laptop
Webcam working but camera black discord
Minecraft Java Edition low framerate
Icons invisible desktop windows 10
You might need to look at quite a few search results before finding a solution to your problem, perhaps tweaking the phrasing along the way. You might also not find a solution at all. In that case, you could try contacting customer support, or see if someone with more computer experience can help you.
Anyway, I’m just about out of ideas, so I’ll end the post here.

"The biggest issue is students using it, me spotting it and having no recourse whatsoever to do anything about it." can you elaborate a bit further
Hello !
So to explain a bit more: we [aka your lecturers, teachers, teaching assistants, etc...] know that some students will use ChatGPT.
And there is a discussion to be had about how to work with this, how to design assessment which allow students to leverage something which may simply become a fixture of writing in a workplace environment, but that is not the discussion we are having here. Because that is not what we are worried about.
The defensible, problematic situation is: a student straight up entering the essay prompt on ChatGPT, and using the grand skills of Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V, submits it as their own paper.
And our main worry, I think, was for a long time that we would not be able to catch it. That students would, actually, be able to fool us and that we would actually think this was a student who understood the course, who put in the work, and who deserve to be rewarded for their grade. That was the main fear.
But here is the thing.
And listen up, students :
Essays written by ChatGPT :
Suck
Are spotted from a mile away from the person reading it
For real. They suck.
I cannot stress enough how easy they are to spot. You are NOT fooling anyone. I do not need the platform's AI-detecting tool to know when an essay was written by Chat GPT. It is so, very painfully obvious when that's the case.
But the problem then becomes : ok, I have spotted a student who cheated.
What am I even supposed to do with it.
It is one thing to KNOW that an essay was AI-generated, it is another to defend it to a plagiarism committee. First of all, does it actually count as plagiarism ? Second, how do prove, with certainty, that the student did not write it ? How to I convince the plagiarism committee that this is worth looking into ? I am in the role of a police officer, who needs to convince the DA that this is a winnable case, that prosecuting will not be a waste of their time. But I don't have a Similarity Percentage to rely on. I don't have an original source to say "look, this is the exact same wording!" like in a classic plagiarism case.
Best case scenario, I can make my case for thee student to actually be called to the plagiarism committee, where we probe into how, exactly, they wrote their essay, until they fold. Unlikely, morally questionable, and in all likelihood, ineffective on students already so confident in their bullshit that they have the audacity to submit a fully AI-generated work for their finals.
Now, students, gather up, especially if you have considered using Chat GPT this way. Because right now, you might think it means you can get away with it.
But let me tell you something. First, that essay is getting the shittiest grade we can give you. Because you know what is more difficult than a lecturer proving that a student used AI to generate their essay ? A student proving that they deserve a better grade. Once we give you a grade, burden of evidence is on you to prove that you have not been graded properly. And we can come up with 15 reasons why an essay is a shit essay. We put on kids' gloves, when we lecture and give feedback. We give the simplified version of most theories, we give the basics of how to structure an essay, the bar we set is spectacularly low, because students come in good faith, they are learning, they will not be held at the same standard as academics. But if you try to argue that you need a higher grade, when you had the audacity to not write a single word of your work, the kids gloves are going to come off real quick, and your lecturer will be able to very convincingly explain why, actually, giving you a passing grade was a mercy in the first place.
Second. Academics, especially angry academics, are a gossip machine.
You may get a passing grade, and there may be no official note of it in your file whatsoever. But I can guarantee you that your lecturer will chat with their colleagues. That every single one of your essay that year, and the years to come, will be looked at with so much scrutiny I hope your referencing for every single work reaches perfection. Every single paragraph will be looked at with the knowledge that you are likely to have had it AI-generated. Lecturers will tell their TA to look at for That One Student when they grade you .You will not be getting any flexibility from us, no extension without full documentation to support it, no letter of recommendation from any member of the faculty, no word in your favor if you are bordering a grade bracket. If we are feeling especially petty, we might even forget to answer your emails or answer any question you have with such warmth and kindness you really still never feel like asking a question again in our class. And I know that, because that's already happening. I have the name of three undergrads that we know, for a fact, did not write their own essay. Two are not even in my modules at all.
Now. That's pretty mean. But if you have the absolute audacity and lack of ethics required to submit an essay for which you have not written a single word, and thought it would actually work, when your lecturer spent probably more that 80 hours working in this module this term, gave you the opportunity to meet for office hours, to ask any question in person or in email, to have extensions, accommodations, additional time ? When you decided that putting exactly zero second of your time, considered that you were above that - and above other students- and yet we were not able to officially sanction you for it, we had to give you a passing grade, the same passing grade as students who actually made an effort?
Yeah, sorry, you are not getting any sympathy from your lecturers anymore.

Specular Maps Tutorial
There is no so many information about these maps and most of this information is too difficult for my understanding, so I decided to make my own tutorial about them. This tutorial shows you how to make your own specular maps from scratch without using EA’s maps as a base. You can read it under the cut. Note: English isn’t my native language and I’m pretty bad in writing in it, so sorry for any mistakes. Still hope this tutorial will be understandable for you.
First of all I recommend you to check out this tutorial for specular maps. It’s for build CC and it’s in Russian (still can translate it with google), but it has some nice examples. It also helps me a lot to understand the process.
That you need? Any image editor that supports dds format and alpha channels. In my case it’s Photoshop C6. You also need to download dds plugin for it.
Let’s start!
I’ll be working with this EA’s swimsuit.
1. Open your texture in Photoshop. For now, we need change image resolution. If you make non-hq texture the size for your normal map should be 512*1024 pixels, if hq then 1024*2048 pixels.
Easy way to doing it is to go to «Image->Image Size», copy the first value and past it in the second. Don’t forget to check out «Costrain Proportions». It should be turn on.
2. Now make new layer under the layer of texture and fill it with black color, lets name it «background» and the texture as «main texture». Then create the another new layer, name it «mask». It should be the plain white copy of the «main texture» like in pics below.
Easy way to doing it in Photoshop:
3. Save the file as psd format. This is our base for the specular maps.
4. At the first we should make mask map. This map is needed for avoiding speculars from others CAS items to overlap your own. Examples can be found here.
For mask map you need to delete «main texture» layer, merge remaining layers in one and save file in dds format. Name it «spec.mask».
The saving settings which I use for dds plugin.
Note: If you want to make your specular map without any shines you need to save your mask map as DXT1 and spec map as DXT5, otherwise your specular maps will be broken in Studio.
5. Close your psd file without saving and open it again. Now we start to make the spec map. It’s responsible for the shine.
There is two ways. You can work with plain texture or with texture itself. The first option is good for clothes with normap maps, the second can be pretty useful for make up, stockings, gloves and ect (the CAS items which can’t have normal maps). In this tutorial I’ll be working with plain texture.
Merge all textures again. Select the layer and copy it (ctrl + A and ctrl + C).
Go to channels and create Alpha channel. Paste your layer in this Alpha channel (ctrl + V). Should be looking like this.
I will use lighter shades of gray to make the tutorial more obvious. But for my CC I personally use more darker shades to make CC barely shine.
Choose “Brush Tool” with black color and put it’s Opacity to 50%.
Note: You also can use “Paint Bucket Tool” or “Brightness/Contrast”, but they don’t always work fine, so be aware of that.
The choosen color should be black! (#000000 color code)
Make the size of brush big enough to color in channels in one touch.
Go to channels. I decided to color in Alpha channel in 50% Opacity.
Red channel in 80%. (Put Brush Tool’s Opacity in 80%. Make sure the color is still black.) The same way with Green channel.
For Blue chanel I chose 30% Opacity.
Make all channels visible. The result should be looking something like this. Making different shades of gray in different channels causes the diffent results in game, so I recommed to test this channels more to get more interesting results.
Note: Make shure that the area around your texture is still black while Alpha channel invisible and red while all channels is visible! Otherwise the whole body of your sim and any CC without mask map will be shiny!
6. Save your file as dds format, name it “spec”. You can close your psd file without saving it or saving it as another file, if something goes wrong.
Your specular maps should be lookig like this.
Note: If you name your spec map as “myspecmap”, the mask map also should have the same name, but with “.mask” in the end ( for example: “myspecmap” and “myspecmap.mask”). Otherwise Studio won't see your specular maps.
7. Open your CC in Studio and put your specular maps back. Choose one of the files, the other file will be placed there automatically.
Don't forget to change to dds format while looking for your maps.
Should be looking like this. The first map is transparent and the second is black and white. It’s important!
8. Lets check out our maps in game! I also made others specular maps to feel the difference between their effects.
If Blue channel is lighter than others RGB channels. Result of the tutorial.
If Red channel is lighter than others RGB channels.
If Green channel is lighter than others RGB channels.
For a better view.
And another example how specular maps can be used. You can make speculars with wet skin vibes for your sim. I used skindetails by obsurus-sims and by me.
Note: Make shure not posting for public such СС and use it only for personal uses or with creator’s permission! Let's respect the work of others creators!
That's all! Maybe in future I'll add more information about specular maps and some tricks. But for now the language barrier still is problem for me :(
Hope it’ll help you somehow! Wish you good luck and inspiration for your future creations!

hii would you be kind enough to share how you edit your gameplay posts? :) also stupid question… what did you mean by keyboard shortcuts? is it like Ctrl C & Ctrl V thing??? or am I just dumb
ok so long post but here is how i edit! With visuals, some of my settings, and other tips
This may seem like a really long process at first glance but the shortcuts really cut down half the time.
I edit in rows of my screenshots, typically grouping them by post or multiple small posts.
The first thing I do is crop. My crop ratios for my posts are 7:5 for landscape and 4:4.5 for portraits.
The next thing I do is run topaz clean. I could set up a keyboard shortcut for topaz clean but I'd have to pick my preset anyways. Now for the rest of the photos I have open, I can use my most recent filter with Ctrl+Alt+F, instead of opening topaz clean and the preset every time. It will automatically use the last topaz clean preset instead.
Here are my topaz clean settings. Shout-out to the other simblrs' topaz clean settings I stared at to understand and find a starting point of what I should use for sims screenshots (mostly @sojutrait <3)
Next is my adjustment layers. I typically use brightness, exposure, and saturation. There isn't a set formula for it but here's my general method. I don't use shortcuts for adjustment layers because I'll being selecting my settings in the same space anyways.
if the screenshot isn't that bright from the get-go I'll use brightness first. If it is well lit, I will only use exposure.
I use exposure rather than brightness to brighten images and to improve highlights, add a glow-y effect, add vibrancy, and also add a little saturation.
It's pretty easy for me to tell what is too much but I suggest picking how much you want and doing a little less. The amount varies a lot per image (+0.11-0.67)
I only use a little saturation (+1-8) since I already get a lot from my gshade. Or I just don't use it
If a screenshot starts off too saturated I'll adjust the curve or lower the contrast a tiny bit instead of lowering saturation.
Then I resize the image to 1000px using the shortcut Ctrl+Alt+I. I don't resize the portrait crops because they are already at about 900px from the crop anyways. The purpose of resizing is so tumblr does not slightly blur the preview images as it does with pictures of a large size. You don't need to click on the field for width it will automatically select it. Just enter your amount and press enter.
If I am adding in a speech bubble, psd, notif, etc. I will do it AFTER I resize. Placing it on the smaller image will keep it sharper. I like to put my psds and such underneath my adjustment layers but if they are too overexposed I'll put them at the top and make a clipping layer (left click on the layer for the drop-down) for the overlay to match the brightness of the image.
Next part is important for my process. Before I move on to the next image in the row I will make sure I select the background layer (it makes sense later)
I don't save the image at this point!
I repeat the process for the rest of the images that I've opened and then I go back to the first image.
This time I use the smart sharpen filter. Here's my presets settings. I won't use smart sharpen on zoomed out exterior shots sometimes because it makes it a little crunchy. I made sure I selected the background layer before so the smart sharpen goes on the actual image and not any of the adjustment/overlay layers.
Then I save as with Ctrl+Alt+S. I'll talk about saving more further down and why I don't use quicksave.
So now I can just quickly go through every image opened using Ctrl+Alt+F (filter) and then Ctrl+Alt+S (save as). The reason I do it this way is so I can use the recent filter shortcut instead of switching back and forth between filters for every image. Again you could make a shortcut for your filters, but you will then have the filter's settings open every time. It also gives me a chance to take another look at the edits and see if there is anything I want to change after seeing it again.
After that I'll choose close all, select a new row of images, and repeat the process.
Other info
Why save as and not quick save? If you don't know, you can assign a keyboard shortcut to quick export as png. I don't use this because it doesn't follow the "save as to original folder" setting being toggled off. So you'll have to select the folder you want to save to everytime.
So I toggle off the "save as to original folder" and use the save as shortcut. After your first save to the folder you want, it will remember the folder you just saved to and that you saved as a png. Then you can just quickly press enter twice through the save as and png format option prompts. The original folder setting is in file handling (where to find file handling is under the next question)
Making a keyboard shortcut? You can view all shortcuts by menu and insert your own shortcuts for ones that don't have one or for preference. Just make sure you don't overwrite another shortcut you care about. You can also just see the shortcuts displayed in the drop-down menus next to the option.
please leave any questions in my ask box and not in the replies!

Ultimate Guide to Proofreading
Here’s the next installation of my writing tips series!
[Just a quick disclaimer: this isn’t meant to discourage anyone! We are all still learning. These are just some tips you may want to consider when editing your writing].
As a language / linguistics student, I tend to focus on the grammar, or just the overall presentation of my writing. Obviously, if you’re writing online or self-publishing, without a beta reader that is, then no one is going to scrutinise you over the small things.
However, it can elevate your writing SO MUCH if you simply proofread it. Often, I find myself taken out of the immersion of a story because a typo is so glaringly obvious. Most of the time, we can gloss over them and they don’t impact the reading experience too much - but if your work is littered with small errors, they tend to pile up.
Proofreading is an easy way to get your readers to stick with you - and it often doesn’t even take that long! You just need to know HOW to proofread, and it will save you time.
1) Spell Checkers
I know this seems really obvious, but I read so much work that could be improved tenfold just by being copied-and-pasted into a spell checker. You can literally type ‘spell checker’ into Google, and use an online service.
Personally, I use Google Docs. I just Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C, and Ctrl+V my work into it - and it will underline the spelling mistakes in red, and the grammar errors in blue.
It’s as easy as that.
2) Consistency and General Grammar Points
This section is by NO MEANS an exhaustive list, but I’ve just compiled the things I’ve noticed the most when reading online.
American English vs. British English:
This one is quite self-explanatory. If you’re going to use American spellings, then use them consistently throughout - and vice versa with British. Some common ones to look out for include:
color / colour
neighbor / neighbour
humor / humour
(US/UK respectively)
I found a good article here that gives a more comprehensive list.
Homophones or the Question of Verb / Noun:
You may want to double-check that you’ve used the right form of a word (verb / noun) - especially if they sound the same.
affect / effect
hoard / horde
practice / practise***
*See this article.
allowed / aloud
were / where
I know these can sometimes get a little tricky for non-native speakers - especially since English is really quite a weird language. But these are the most common errors I’ve picked up on.
A lot of the time, things like Google Docs won’t spot these - so it’s good to be aware of the TYPES of errors you’re trying to find.
Also, remember that Google Search is your friend. I can’t even count the number of times I look things up when writing - THERE IS NO SHAME IN IT. It doesn’t take long to check if you’re using a word in the correct context, or the correct form of the word.
Showing Possession:
A lot of people tend to get confused about using the genitive marker, apostrophe ‘-s’ to show possession. See the examples below:
[Disclaimer: don’t judge my name choices...]
Jade has a bag. That is Jade’s bag.
Jade Simpson has a bag. That is Jade Simpson’s bag.
Jade Simpson lives with her husband, John Simpson. They are the Simpsons.
That is the Simpson household. That is the Simpsons’ house.***
*This is the one most people struggle on. There are two Simpsons, so the apostrophe comes at the end to show PLURAL possession (i.e., belonging to BOTH Jade and John).
This is Jess. That is Jess’ bag.
Here, the above can be written as Jess’s, but the extra (-s) usually gets ellided if it is following an ‘s’.
Another thing people get confused about is its/it’s.
In English, ‘it’s’ = a contraction of ‘it + is’ (NOT TO SHOW POSSESSION). ‘Its’ is the possessive form in this case.
E.g., The dog lost its collar; it is brown = The dog lost its collar; it’s brown (the collar is brown).
Punctuation Consistency:
Personally, I don’t mind what style of punctuation you use. Whether you put your full stops INSIDE your quotations, or OUTSIDE;
E.g., “Go away.” vs “Go away”.
or if you sometimes like using hyphens in place of a comma; likewise with capitalisation, and whether you decide to capitalise certain nouns etc.
But, whatever you choose, BE CONSISTENT WITH IT.
You don’t want to give your readers whiplash by changing styles every couple of lines. Otherwise, it’s like you’ve chosen one academic referencing style for your essay, only to switch it half-way through. It’s confusing. It may seem like a nit-picking point, but people will notice it - and it’s good written practice to focus on being consistent.
3) Formatting:
Dialogue:
PLEASE PLEASE start a new paragraph/line if SOMEONE NEW IS SPEAKING.
Your readers will be so confused if you don’t properly distinguish who is speaking. It takes away from the reading experience when you think one character has said a line, but it turns out to be another.
Don’t just rely on “[...]” John said. We should know if someone new is speaking by the format, not just the name that follows the dialogue.
Paragraphs:
Don’t let your work be one block of text. Break it up and make it more digestible for your readers. Try to start a new paragraph for a new topic, place, thought, etc. You can find some really great guides online that go into more detail. Personally, I think it’s quite a stylistic thing - but you should still be consistent in how you choose to establish your paragraphs.
4) Other Things to Look out For
Detography: Have you written a word twice?
Pronouns: Are you using the following correctly?
their/they’re/there
your/you’re
Tenses: Are you sticking to the same tense? Are your verbs all conjugated in the same tense? Do you switch tense half-way through?
Repetition: Are you relying on the same words a lot. Are you using the same verb / descriptive word very close together?
For this, I just make a quick Google search:
E.g., “said synonym” or “angry synonym” - it adds variety to your writing.
Character Names: This seems obvious, but make sure you’ve spelt them correctly throughout - same goes for place names etc.
5) READ YOUR WORK ALOUD
I really can’t stress this enough. Even after studying language, literature and linguistics for as long as I have, I still miss so many of my own errors if I don’t read my work aloud. My editing process literally involves:
Write the draft
Read over the draft and correct any glaring errors
Copy and paste into a spelling/grammar checker
Re-read the new work and edit again
Read aloud and edit as I go
Final read through
Obviously I don’t do this every time - but it shows just how easy it is to miss mistakes when you’re still finding them during step 6.
6) Bribe a Beta-Reader (or a Friend)...
This is a really helpful step if you are able to find someone willing to check over your work. Often, we become blind to our own writing after we’ve read over the same thing a number of times. It can be really useful to get someone to take a look at it with fresh eyes!
Disclaimer: These are just some things I’ve noticed that I tend to look for in my own work. Also, I want to make a point of saying that English is a strange language, so please don’t be discouraged if you’re a non-native speaker feeling confused. I still get confused!
Also, please feel free to ask me any questions! I might not always be available to give a full beta-read of your work, but if you have any queries relating to grammar etc., don’t hesitate to drop me a message!

A true understanding of his teachings not only triggers a spiritual awakening and enlightenment, it helps us recognize that we too, not just Jesus, are one with what he called our father, the greater universe above us which we are all a part of and products of.

people of color in arthurian legend masterpost
hi! some people said it would be cool if i did this, and this is something i find interesting so. yeah! are you interested in king arthur and the knights of the round table? do you like to read about characters of color, especially in older lit? well, i hope this can be a good resource for people to get into stuff like that, especially poc/ethnic minorities who might feel uncomfortable or lonely getting into older media like arthuriana. this post is friendly to both those who prefer medieval lit and those who prefer modern stuff!
disclaimers: i am not a medievalist nor a race theorist! very much not so. i am just a 17 year old asian creature on the internet who wants to have an easy-to-reference post, if i’m not comprehensive enough please inform me. i’m going to stay closely to the matter of britain, as well, not all medieval european literature as a. this is what i’m more familiar with and b. there’s so much content and information and context to go along with it that it would really be impossible to put it all into one tumblr post. (however there’s always going to be overlap!) also, please do not treat me or any other person of color/ethnic minority as a singular all-knowing authority on anything! we’re all trying to have fun here and being made into an information machine on things, especially what is and isn’t offensive isn’t fun. with that out of the way, let’s get into it! (under cut for length!)
part i: some historical context (tw for racism and antisemitism discussion)
fair warning, i’m going to start off with some discussions of more heavier history before we talk about more fun stuff. while pre colonial racism was far more different than how it is today, there still...was racism. and it’s important to understand the social mien around nonwhite people in europe at the time these works were written.
to understand how marginalized ethnicities were written in medieval european literature, you have to understand the fact that religion, specifically catholicism, was a very important part of medieval european life. already, catholicism has violent tenets (ie, conversion as an inherent part of the church, as well as many antisemitic theologies and beliefs), but this violence worsened when an event known as the crusades happened.
the crusades were a series of religious wars started by the catholic church to ‘reclaim’ the holy land from islamic rule and to aid the byzantine empire. while i won’t go into the full history of the crusades, (some basic info here and here and here) its important to understand that they had strengthened the european view of the ’pagan’ (ie: not european christian) world as an ‘other’, a threat to christiandom that needed to be conquered and converted, for the spiritual benefit of both the convertee and the converter. these ideas of ethnoreligious superiority and conversion would permeate into the literature of the time written by european christians.
even today, the crusades are very much associated with white supremacy and modern islamophobic sentiment, with words such as ‘deus vult’ as a dogwhistle, and worship of and willingness to emulate the violence the crusaders used against the inhabitants of the holy land in tradcath spaces, so this isn’t stuff that’s all dead and in the past. crusader propaganda and the ignorance on the violence of the catholic church and the crusaders on muslim and jewish populations (as well as nonwhite christians ofc) is very harmful. arthuriana itself has a lot of links to white supremacy too-thanks to @/to-many-towered-camelot for this informative post. none of this stuff exists in a bubble.
here’s a book on catholic antisemitism, here’s a book on orientalism, here’s a book about racism in history that touches on the crusades. (to any catholic, i highly reccommend you read the first.)
with that out of the way, we can talk about the various not european groups that typically show up in arthurian literature and some historical background irt to that. the terms ‘moor’ and ‘saracen’ will typically pop up. both terms are exonyms and are very, very broad, eventually used as both a general term for muslims and as a general term for african and (western + central) asian people. they’re very vague, but when you encounter them the typical understanding you’re supposed to take away is ‘(western asian/african) foreigner’ and typically muslim/not christian as well. t
generally, african and asian lands will typically be referred to as pagan or ‘eastern/foreign’ lands, with little regard for understanding the actual religions of that area. they will also typically refer to saracens as pagans although islam is not a pagan religion. this is just a bit of a disclaimer. the term saracen itself is considered to be rather offensive-thank you to @/lesbianlanval for sending me a paper on this subject.
while i typically refer to the content on this post as having to pertain to african and asian people (ie, not european) european jewish arthurian traditions are included on this post too. but, i know more about poc and they’ll feature more prominently in this post because of that, lol.
part ii: so, are there any medieval texts involving characters of color?
i’m glad you asked! of course there are! to be clear, european medieval authors were very much aware that people of color and african + asian nations existed, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. even the vita merlini mentions sri lanka and a set of islands that might (?) be the philippines!! for the sake of brevity though, on this list i’m not going to list every single one of these small and frequent references, so i’m just going to focus on texts that primarily (or notably) feature characters of color.
first of all, it’s important to know was the influence of cultures of color and marginalized ethnicities that helped shape arthurian legend. the cultural exchange between europe and the islamic world during the crusades, as well as the long history of arab presence in southern europe, led to the influence of arabic love poetry and concepts of love on european literature, helping to form what we consider the archetypal romance. there are also arthurian traditions in hebrew, and yiddish too, adding new cultural ideas and introducing new story elements to their literature-all of these are just as crucial to the matter of britain as any other traditions!
when it comes to nonwhite presence in the works themselves, many knights of color in arthurian legend tend to be characters that, after defeated by a knight of arthur’s court join the court themselves. though some are side characters, there are others with their own romances and stories devoted to them! many of them are portrayed as capable + good as, if not better than their counterparts. (this, however, usually only comes through conversion to christianity if the knight is not christian...yeah.) though groups of color as a general monolith created by european christians tended to be orientalized in literature (see: mystical and strange ~eastern~ lands), many individual knights were written to be seen by their medieval audience as positive heroes. i’m going to try to stick to mostly individual character portrayals such as these.
with that all said though, these characters can still be taken as offensive (i would consider most to be) in their writing, so take everything with a grain of salt here. i will also include links to as many english translations of texts as i can, as well as note which ones i think are beginner friendly to those on the fence about medieval literature!
he shows up in too many texts so let’s make this into two bullet notes and start with one of, if not the most ubiquitous knight of color of the round table (at least in medieval lit),-palamedes! palamedes/palomides is a ‘’saracen knight’’ who (typically) hails from babylon or palestine and shows up in a good amount of texts. his first appearance is in the prose tristan, and he plays a major role there as a knight who fights with tristan for the hand of iseult-while he uh. loses, him and tristan later become companions + friends with a rivalry, and palamedes later goes off to hunt the questing beast, a re-occurring trend in his story.
palamedes even got his own romance named after him (which was very popular!) and details the adventures of the fathers of the knights of the round table, pre arthur, as well as later parts of the story detailing the adventures of their sons. it was included in rustichello da pisa’s compilation of arthurian romances, which i unfortunately have not seen floating around online (or...anywhere), so i can’t attest to the quality of it or anything. he appears in le morte darthur as well, slaying the questing beast but only after his conversion to christianity (...yeah.) in the texts in which he appears, palamedes is considered to be one of the top knights of the round table, alongside tristan and lancelot, fully living up to chivalric and courtly ideals and then some. i love him dearly and i’ve read the prose tristan five times just for him. (also the prose tristan in general is good, please give it a try, especially if you’re a romance fan.)
speaking of le morte d’arthur, an egyptian knight named priamus shows up in the lucius v arthur episode on lucius’ side first, later joining arthur’s after some interactions with gawaine. palamedes has brothers here as well-safir and segwarides. safir was relatively popular, and shows up in many medieval texts, mostly alongside his older brother. i wouldn’t recommend reading le morte of all things for the characters of color though-if you really want to see what it’s all about, just skip to the parts they’re mentioned with ctrl + f, haha.
the romance of moriaen is a 12th century dutch romance from the lancelot compilation, named for its main character morien. morien, who is a black moor, is the son of sir aglovale, the brother of perceval. whilst gawaine and lancelot are searching for said perceval, they encounter morien, who is in turn searching for aglovale as he had abandoned morien’s mother way back when. i wholeheartedly recommend this text for people who might feel uncomfy with medieval lit. though the translation i’ve linked can be a bit tricky, the story is short, sweet, and easy to follow, and morien and his relationships (esp with gariet, gawaine’s brother) are all wonderful.
king artus (original hebrew text here) is a northern italian jewish arthurian text written in hebrew- it retells a bit of the typical conception of arthur story, as well as some parts from the death of arthur as well. i really can’t recommend this text enough-it’s quite short, with an easy-to-read english translation, going over episodes that are pretty familiar to any average reader while adding a lot of fun details and it’s VERY interesting to me from a cultural standpoint. i find the way how they adapt the holy grail (one of the most archetypal christian motifs ever) in particular pretty amazing. this is also a very beginner friendly text!
wolfram von eschenbach’s parzival (link to volume 1 and volume 2-this translation rhymes!) is a medieval high german romance from the early 13th century, based off de troyes’ le conte du graal while greatly expanding on the original story. it concerns parzival and his quest for the grail (with a rather unique take on it-he fails at first!), and also takes like one million detours to talk about gawaine as all arthurian lit does. the prominent character of color here is a noble mixed race knight called feirefiz, parzival’s half brother by his father, who after dueling with parzival, and figures out their familial connection, joins him on his grail quest. he eventually converts to christianity (..yeah.) to see the grail and all ends happily for him. however, this text is notable to me as it contains two named women of color-belacane, feirefiz’s black african mother, and secundilla, feirefiz’s indian wife. though unfortunately, both are pretty screwed over by the text and their respective husbands. though parzival is maybe my favorite medieval text i’ve read so far i don’t necessarily know if i’d recommend this one, because it is long, and can be confusing at times. however, i do think that when it comes to the portrayal of people of color, while quite poor by today’s standards, von eschenbach was trying his best?-of course, in reason for. a 13th century medival german christian but he treats them with respect and all these characters are actually characters. if you’re really interested in grail stories (and are aware of the more uncomfortably christian aspects of the grail story), and you like gawaine and perceval, i’d say go for it.
in the turk and sir gawain, an english poem from the early 16th century, gawaine and the titular turkish man play a game of tennis ball. i’m shitting you not. this text is pretty short, funnily absurd, and with most of the hallmarks of a typical quest (various challenges culminating in some castle being freed), so it’s an easier read. it’s unclear to me, but at the end of the story the turkish man turns into sir gromer, a noble knight, who may or may not be white which uh. consider my ‘....yeah’ typical at this point, but i don’t personally read it that way for my own sanity. also he throws the sultan (??) of the isle of man (????) into a cauldron for not being a christian so when it comes to respectful representation of poc this one doesn’t make it, but it does make this list.
the revenge of ragisel, or at least the version i’ve read (the eng translation of the dutch version from the lancelot compilation), die wrake van ragisel, starts off being about the mysterious murder of a knight, but eventually, as most stories do, becomes a varying series of adventures about gawaine and co. one of gawaine’s friends (see: a knight who he combated with for a hot sec and then became friends and allies with, as you do) is a black knight named maurus! he’s not really an mc, but he features prominently and he’s pretty entertaining, as all the characters in this are. i also recommend this highly, i was laughing the whole time reading it! it’s not too long and pretty wild, you’ll have a good romp. this is a good starter text for anyone in general!
i’ve not read the roman van walewein, which, as it says on the tin, is a 12th century dutch romance concerning some deeds of gawaine (if only gawaine was a canon poc, i wouldn’t need to make this list because he’s so popular...). i’m putting it on the list for in this, gawaine goes to the far eastern land of endi (india) and romances a princess named ysabele. i can’t speak to ysabele’s character or the respectfulness of her kingdom or representation, but i know she’s a major character and her story ends pretty well, so that’s encouraging. women of color, especially fleshed out woc, are pretty rare in arthurian lit. i’ve also heard the story itself is pretty wild, and includes a fox, which sounds pretty exciting to me!
now the next two things i’m going to mention aren’t really? texts that feature characters of color or jewish characters, but are rather more notable for being translations of existing texts into certain languages. wigalois is a german 13th century romances featuring the titular character (the son of, you guessed it, gawaine!) and his deeds. the second, jaufre, is the only arthurian romance written in occitan, and is a quite long work about the adventures of the knight jaufre, based on the knight griflet. what’s notable about these two works is that wigalois has a yiddish translation, and jaufre has a tagalog translation. wigalois’ yiddish translation in particular changed the original german text into something more fitting of the arthurian romance format as well as adding elements to make it more appealing for a jewish audience. the tagalog translation of jaufre on the other hand was not medieval, only coming about in 1900, but the philippines has had a long history of romantic tradition and verse writing, so i’m curious to see if it too adds or changes elements when it comes to the arthurian story, but i can’t find a lot on the tagalog version of jaufre unfortunately-i hope i can eventually!
this list of texts is also non-exhaustive! i’m just listing a couple of notoriety, and some to start with.
part iii: papers and academic analysis
so here’s just a dump of various papers i’ve read and collected on topics such as these-this is an inexhaustive and non-comprehensive list! if you have any papers you think are good and would like to be added here, shoot me an ask. i’ll try to include a link when i can, but if it’s unavailable to you just message me. * starred are the ones i really think people, especially white people, should at least try to read.

part iv: supplemental material
here’s some other stuff i find useful to getting to know knights of color in arthurian legend, especially if papers/academic stuff/medieval literature is daunting! i’d really recommend you go through all of these if you can’t go through anything else-most are quick reads.
a magazine article on knights of color here, and this article about the yiddish translation of wigalois.
this video about characters of color in arthurian legend!
the performance of the translation of arabic in Libro del Caballero Zifar, and how it pertains to the matter of britain
a post by yours truly about women of color in parzival
this info sheet about palamedes, and this info sheet about ysabele-thanks to @/pendraegon and @/reynier for letting me use these!
this page on palamedes as well
this post with various resources on race and ethnicity in arthuriana-another thank you to @/reynier!
part v: how about modern day stories and adaptations?
there’s a lot of em out there! i’m not as familiar with modern stuff, but i will try to recommend medias i know where characters of color (including racebends!) are prominent. since i haven’t read/watched all (or truly most) of these, i can’t really speak on the quality of the representation though, so that’s your warning.
first of all, when it comes to the victorian arthurian revival, i know that william morris really liked palamedes! (don’t we all.) he features frequently in morris’ arthurian poetry, (in this beautiful book, he primarily features in ‘sir galahad, a christmas mystery’ and ‘king arthur’s tomb’. he has his own poem by morris here.)
and some other poems about palamedes, which i’d all recommend.
for movies, i know a knight in camelot (1998) stars whoopi goldberg as an original character, the green knight (2021) will star dev patel as gawaine.
some shows include camelot high, bbc merlin, disney’s once upon a time, and netflix’s cursed, all featuring both original characters of color and people of color cast as known arthurian figures.
for any music people, in ‘high noon over camelot’, an album by the mechanisms, mordred is played by ashes o’reilley, who in turn is performed by frank voss, and arthur is played by marius von raum who is perfomed by kofi young.
i’ve also heard the pendragon and the squire’s tales have palamedes as a relevant character if you’re looking for novels, as well as legendborn and the forgotten knight: a chinese warrior in king arthur’s court starring original protagonists of color!
part vi: going on from here
so, you’ve read some medieval lit, read some papers, watched some shows, and done all that. what now? well, there’s still so much out there!
if you have fanfiction, analysis, metaposts, fun content etc etc about arthurian poc, feel free to plug your content on this post! i’d be happy to boost it.
in general, if you’re a person of color or a jewish person and you’re into arthurian legend, feel free to promote your blog on this post as well! i would love to know more people active on arthurian tumblr who are nonwhite.
this is really just me asking for extra content, especially content made by poc, but that’s okay! arthurian legend is a living, breathing set of canons and i would love love love to see more fresh diversity within them right alongside the older stuff.
a very gracious thank you to the tumblr users whom i linked posts to on here, and thanks to y’all for saying you want to see this! i hope this post helped people learn some new things!
