you know what. i've always been hesitant to describe my anaphylactic food allergies as a disability because "it's just allergies" but if you look at the numerous ways this has affected my life as an adult (because everybody only talks about kids having anaphylactic allergies):
no restaurants or fast food
no store-bought food from small companies (less accountability/resources to prevent cross-contamination)
no candy or desserts (unless they are 100% homemade, which takes a lot of time and energy if you have other disabilities like i do)
no hand-washing dishes (every place i live in has to have a well-functioning dishwasher)
no kissing people on the mouth/lower half of the face
other people cannot kiss me/put their mouth on me
no allergens in the house (really difficult to enforce with non- immediate family members!!)
always having to cook my own meals/bake my own treats/desserts
no sharing drinks/food with other people
no food cooked in other people's houses/kitchens
always having to bring my own "lunchbox" to family events, work or school, all-day events, or any other situation in which i could THEORETICALLY need to eat or drink something other than bottled water
calling food manufacturers to verify label information on new/changed foods
and none of this is counting the avoidance behaviors i developed with obsessive-compulsive disorder around age 13 in response to the panic attacks i'd have remembering about the anaphylactic shock i experienced at age 10.
i was taught to read labels at age 5. i was taught how to use my own epi-pen at age 6. my parents and i have always been careful and responsible about my allergies. it's not "i just don't like this food", it's "if i eat this my throat will swell up and block my trachea AND i'll go into shock from low blood pressure." as inconvenient as it might be for YOU, you can learn these things too and save a life. happy disability pride month; stop being a dickhead
i don't usually talk about my allergies because it gives me a LOT of anxiety but i felt this was important to share, because most people have no idea what being an adult with allergies is like. life went from "everyone at the birthday party gets a cupcake but me and i'm sad" to to "if i want to kiss someone i like, i have to make sure she hasn't eaten anything i'm allergic to in the past few days" (which is like. hugely awkward to ask of someone holy shit) or "i have to turn down the meal from my friend's mom even though she has the best of intentions and now she thinks i'm an asshole"

I get disability memes on my Pinterest feed but after getting one for ER Drs/nurses that I found concerning, I kept seeing more and more like it and I went down a rabbit hole. I know it's one of the most stressful jobs someone can have and I really appreciate the medical staff that have been kind to me. These things are definitely made by the types of people who haven't been.
I think it's important because memes are kind of a way to let off steam but they mean what they're saying. They're not just jokes but they're framed in a way that they can say it more comfortably. Sometimes they're just straight up admitting to crimes and malpractice. It's like when someone says something that crosses a line in a joking tone so that if you feel attacked they insist it's just a joke and you're taking it too seriously. But my life is constantly in the hands of these people and I've been mistreated time and time again by medical personnel
I'm gonna go through them because honestly I hate them and there are a lot of repeating themes
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are extremely common. The focus of the meme being that a whiny patient is asking for pain medication that they clearly don't need. Something commonly mentioned in these is disbelief that the patient has an allergy because it's common for someone trying to get drugs to claim they have an allergy.
Also the Confucius one is both ableist and racist so double whammy I guess!
I've dealt with people I know are silently assuming this of me. I'm allergic to NSAIDs- deathly allergic and at risk for asphyxiation or anaphylactic shock. Medical staff sometimes have this attitude of "we know when you're faking your pain" (no really I had one say this shit on my post about this) and that has traumatized me immeasurably because they'd rather me wait for 4+ hours in some of the worst pain of my life than risk the possibility of me being an awful scheming mustache twirling addict.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This category is just as common. "I don't like you so I'm going to drug you". That's more fucked up than they seem to think it is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then there's the category of "you're a whiny little bitch and I don't believe a word out of your mouth". Which contributes heavily to medical malpractice and abuse
Again these are doctors and nurses making these, people responsible for treating patients with care and dignity and respect. Especially if they want any in return
Tumblr media
Aaaaand this one is just a crime. One that's happened to me actually- reporting examinations that never happened to get rid of me because I was such a nuisance (crying, hardly coherent, drenched in sweat, 9/10 pain on arrival)
Tumblr media
And then there are the ones like "don't mess with me because i handle your treatment/meds 💕". Things like "the way you treat me is the deciding factor for how fast I'm going to get your painkillers 😊". Which to me is just... evil?
I've never in my life mistreated medical staff but people in a lot of pain get mean sometimes. It's a survival instinct actually- for aggression to accompany pain or panic. Not that it's ever okay but it isn't personal
These are just a few examples really, there are so fucking many of these with this awful, cruel, cynical tone. There are some funny ones that aren't mean or degrading towards patients but so many of them are and in nearly every one I see a mean spirited healthcare worker that I've encountered at some point who damaged me in ways I will never psychologically recover from

Prompt: Loud from @into-the-jeggyverse (August 31)
Word count: 465 words
Pairing: Jegulus (modern AU)
⚠️ Warnings: slightly bad language
 Sirius knows Regulus' two types of "loud”. The first kind is uncomfortable for anyone but James, and Sirius heard it more times than he wanted to. The second type of loud is how Regulus and James entered his apartment this morning.
 "I can't believe you did that! You are not in your right mind!”
 Yes, it was the "James did a stupid thing" loud. Sirius sighed as he didn’t even drink his morning coffee as the two lovers stormed into the kitchen. Regulus came straight to his brother and held out his arm to James, who had a strange smile on his face.
 "You won't believe what he did!" the younger brother cried. "He's completely crazy!"
 Sirius looked into his best friend's eyes and saw a glint he had never seen before. It was full of satisfaction and pride, as if James found the cure for cancer and rid the world of hunger and poverty.
 "What happened so badly that it couldn't wait until after the coffee hour?" Sirius asked with a slight frown.
 "Tell him what you did" Regulus ordered but as James opened his mouth his lover stopped him. "No! You know? I think you said enough!".
 "What's with the fuss?" Remus asked, entering the room with a long yawn. "What did James do this time?"
 Yes, Remus knew Regulus's loud types too. There was no way he wouldn't come into contact with them, no matter how hard he tried to avoid the first kind.
 “Well, we decided to go out for breakfast at a cafe. And we happened to run into mother there,” Regulus said, making Sirius grimace in disgust. “I told James to shut up and go eat somewhere else, but mum started shouting at both of us. And when she started to insult me for being a bad son, James turned around with that big smile on his face and told her he was sorry, but he's allergic to dogs and...”
 "...And she's such a bitch that he might go into anaphylactic shock if she gets any closer" James said keeping his happy expression on his face.
 "You didn't say that…" Sirius said in a whisper and stood up solemnly to give his friend the biggest hug ever. "Marry me."
 Regulus let out an exasperated growl and went to the bathroom to calm down, while Remus remained in his chair, blinking in shock. If James were to marry Sirius right now, he couldn't even be upset. If he had a mother like Walburga, Remus would have married James for that reply too. They knew for a fact that Regulus was upset now, but he too would realize what had just happened, and when he will acknowledge the greatness of the act, he would be queuing up for James's hand too.

Tim Bradford x Reader
Warnings/Tags: Spoilers for S1 finale, spoilers for S2E1, officer!reader, female!reader, established relationship
.............................................................................................
"We can ask for a few more days off," you tell Tim as he grabs the keys. After everything that happened you two have finally finished the two weeks of administrative leave.
"Babe, I'm fine," he says. You didn't know if he was telling the truth or not. But you did know you weren't. You had come far to close to losing him.
"You stayed in a room with a man who had a highly contagious hemorrhagic fever for an hour. You were injected with an experimental vaccine and went into anaphylactic shock because of it." You raise your voice. Tim was to stubborn to admit if something was wrong.
"I can see your concern, but I promise you, I will be more careful," he says and gives you a kiss. He felt truly horrible for what had happened. He couldn't imagine what it was like for you.
"I swear to God, if you take any calls you know are going to be very dangerous," you don't have to finish your threat. Tim knows.
You couldn't lose him. Tim Bradford might be a bit of an asshole, but he was your asshole. But being truthful he wasn't near as much of an asshole to you.
Tim hated that two weeks of spending every second of every day with you was over. He also hated that he wouldn't be able to protect you. He knew you could handle yourself, that didn't stop him from worrying.
"I will be careful, but I want you to be careful too," Tim says and begins to move out the door. You follow.
"I will, love you," you say and get in the car. This day was going to be hell. Both of you were so used to being able to see the other whenever. Now it was back to seeing each other during breaks.
"Love you to," Tim says as he pulls out of the driveway.

A/N: I have been really into dark romance and shit, ever since I got that TikTok recommendation. I hereby present yakuza!Shinsuke Kita x Reader. Part 1/2
‘Shit. Shit. Shit! I am late!’, you curse yourself as you almost bolt out of the train, as soon as it stops and its doors open.
You accidentally ran into a lot of people, shouting quick apologies over your shoulder, still running to your workplace.
Thank the heavens for your stamina.
Finally arriving at the Tokyo Ambulance Rescue Station, you quickly run inside and each of your coworkers stops what they are doing to look at you.
Huffing and almost wheezing like you’re having an asthma attack, you step inside and head to the female locker room without looking at any of your coworkers.
Already feeling disgusted by your sweaty state, you change into your paramedic uniform nonetheless.
Now in fresh clothes, you trot your way to one of the ambulance vehicles, seeing your friend Makima checking the equipment in the backpacks and making sure everything is filled up.
Gulping in nervousness, you approach slowly.
“Glad you decided to show up. Almost done.” Makima tells you in a deadly calm voice. Makima is one of those people who despise being late, whether it's herself or someone she is waiting on. She is only a few years older than you but still your superior. Great, this is just your first month after graduating but you were so tired last night that you forgot to put on your damn alarm for the next morning.
Not that this is an excuse, but your showing up is all that matters right?
With shaking footsteps, you make your way into the vehicle and start apologizing in a rant.
“Makima I am so so sorry, I promise it will never happen again!”, you frantically explain yourself, still out of breath.
The long-haired redhead briefly looks at you before bursting out laughing and you don’t know if this makes you feel better or worse.
Giggling, she closes up the i.v. medication backpack and storages it back underneath the cabinet of the bandages.
“(Y/N) don’t worry about it really, shit happens to all of us. No one is perfect and everyone here at the station was late once. Even me.” Makima explains and you can feel yourself being able to breathe easier already.
Just when you were about to reply to her, your beeper went off with a loud annoying peeping voice.
You run to the rack, where your black jacket with your name and the words T.A.R.S. are stitched into, and hop into the passenger seat of the vehicle.
Reading the screen at the front, you groan at the message that the fire station has sent you.
‘PATIENT PROB OD, TROUBLE BREATHING, UNCONSCIOUS, UNRESPONSIVE ‘
It’s probably the troublesome homeless teenager Denji again. You have met Denji twice now. Once beaten up badly and lying knocked out cold in an alley where he was found by a couple of passengers. The other time you found him almost bleeding to death due to a deep stab wound in his thigh, which he explained he simply got mugged.
Nonetheless, you press the buttons for the siren and the blue lights, while Makima steps on the gas to rush to the scene.
The rush and adrenaline are running through your system, making your heart bounce in excitement. Saving lives in acute situations is your thing! It’s a working environment that always comes with new foreign things and patients. Each day is different, which is exactly what your brain needs. Even if you have to drive through the massive city of Tokyo, the different kinds of people and the stories you get to tell your parents sometimes, are worth their shocking and even disgusting expressions sometimes.
Once you were called to a restaurant, in which a patient had an allergic reaction and went into a nonlethal anaphylactic shock.
The patient told you that his date was so horrible, that he purposely ate onions, even though he is allergic to them.
All just to get away from her.
Shaking your head, the logic of men never ceases to amaze you.
Arriving at the scene, you see two people leaning over a young guy that is laying on the sidewalk. He is already turned to his side, making sure in case he needs to throw up, he doesn’t choke on his vomit. Mentally thanking these people for performing the stable lateral position on the unconscious boy.
You grab the mobile vital monitor and the backpack that includes material for giving an I.V. including meds and an infusion.
Before Makima grabs the breathing and the medical suction pump, she turns off the siren but leaves the blue lights on. Pressing the lock on the car keys, the ambulance is securely locked. Unfortunately, people tend to break into ambulance vehicles and proceed to steal the medications.
Both women are rushing to the patient, quickly going through the ABCDE approach, and they manage to load him onto the stretcher after making sure he didn’t overdose. His heart is beating abnormally fast, his blood pressure is at 75/40 and when you shine a small flashlight to take a look at his eyes, his pupils are dilated.
There’s no doubt about it, that Denji got his hands on cocaine.
After giving him Adrenaline and Naloxone, his condition stabilises and Denji begins to stir.
Blinking his eyes open, a bright light immediately greets him and Denji swears he died.
He feels incredibly nauseous and his head is spinning like he just went on countless rides on a spinning wheel.
You hover over Denji’s pale figure, a vomiting bag already in your right hand.
“Denji? Can you hear me?” You ask him in a concerned voice.
When Denji was about to answer, he rapidly sits up and snatches the bag out of your hand, and hurls right into it.
Rubbing his back in a comforting manner, you sit beside him on the stretcher.
Makima is giving a quick report to their station boss, before joining you in the vehicle.
The sight of Denji vomiting disgusts Makima, deciding to wait outside because she can’t stand the smell or sight of someone throwing up.
“Denji, I think we should really take you to the hospital, you’re only 16 years old, where did you even get this stuff?” You ask him in a worried voice.
“It’s none of your business, let me out! I need to go!” Denji snaps at you, beginning to stand up.
You know you shouldn’t fight someone who just woke up from a drug rush, so you let him stand up.
Standing on wobbly legs, he places his hand against the vehicle wall to stabilize his balance.
Breathing heavily out of his mouth, he was about to open the vehicle door when Makima already beat him to it.
Surprised that he is up, she moves to the side to let him step out of the vehicle.
Denji almost falls flat on his face and his pale face makes you even more worried about him.
“Denji, are you sure you’re okay? Do you want us to call anyone?”
“Stop acting like you fucking care about me. I am just a street rat. I don’t need your pity! Just leave me the fuck alone!” He angrily spits at you, like a moody teenager that got his phone taken away.
Makima and you are watching him walk away, still unbalanced but both of you leave him be.
“You’re welcome by the way for not letting you die today!” Makima yells after him. Denji shows his middle finger up in response and continues to stomp away.
Sighing in defeat, Makima and you get back into the vehicle and you are making your way back to the station.
Giving the report that the patient refused to cooperate and come with you, you drive back.
The clock strikes 22:00 and Makima and you are finally free to change after the night shift has arrived.
Farewelling Makima goodbye, you begin to walk to the train station.
Having your headphones in your ear, you scroll through your Spotify playlist and choose ‘Glitter and Gold’.
You had a really busy day and barely had a chance to go to the bathroom.
Entering the women’s restroom, you look up from your phone, and the sight before you freezes immediately.
Right in front of you stands a very tall guy with sandy-blonde hair, he has to be at least 6’1 and he is holding a lot of tissues against his arm, blood soaking each tissue.
The stranger holds a painful expression while putting pressure on his arm.
His muscled body is leaning against the sink, the blood on his upper arm dripping down right into it.
Brown eyes rapidly look in your direction, his face shining with curiosity.
Chuckling nervously, he starts talking with his deep voice.
“Don’t scream, don't call for anyone. Just got a little scratch on my arm.”
Blinking a few times at his wound, you slowly step towards him.
Your approach is making him tense, his non-injured arm moving to his side, where he holds a dagger in case you want to attack him.
“Your wound looks pretty bad. Don’t worry I am a paramedic, I can take care of that if you want to.”
The blonde-haired giant looks at you for a few seconds, making sure you’re not lying.
After a few moments of tense silence, he nods unsurely.
Breathing out slowly, you awkwardly glance at the door and at him a few times.
“Uhm. Just follow me then, I need to take a proper look at it. I have my materials at home so come home with me so I can patch you up properly.” You explain to him.
His eyes watch you carefully, hesitantly he nods and puts his maroon jacket back on.
“Do you have a belt or something on you?” You ask him as you both exit the public restroom.
The tall stranger nods and takes off his belt to hand it to you.
Grasping the belt you begin to tie it around his arm, so the wound hopefully stops the bleeding until you both arrive at your place.
Wincing at the tightness, he thanks you quietly.
As you both begin to enter the train, which is thankfully empty around this time on a weekday, you ask him what happened to his arm.
“Not that's yer business anyway, so I’d rather not say.” He avoids your curious look.
“But that wound is pretty deep! You need to go to the hospital and get that stitched up probably.” You try to reason with him.
“I am serious. Drop it.” He snaps at you with an angry frown.
Accepting his request, you decide to drop it.
With nervous hands, you glance down at the metro floor and wait in silence to arrive at your destination.
Ten uncomfortable minutes later, you both arrive at the subway station that is close to your apartment.
Unlocking the door with your key, you enter inside and wait for him.
The blonde hesitates for a few seconds, glancing down the hallway nervously before deciding that you’re not a threat, and enters as well.
Gently closing the door, you urge him to follow you into your bathroom where your medical kit lies underneath the sink.
You direct him to sit on the edge of the bathtub and he complies without question.
“I need to see your wound properly in order to clean it up.” You tell him while putting on medical gloves and setting the necessary materials like the stitching materials, disinfectant wipes, and fluid, and scissors.
He winces while rolling up his sleeve to present you with his injury.
You start by taking a wet washcloth and gently dabbing it around the area, quietly apologizing whenever he hisses and flinches away from the touch.
As you are now able to see the injury better, you see that it’s actually a bullet wound, hence the bleeding was so heavy.
Shocked that he has this kind of injury, you remember that he doesn’t want to talk about how he got it.
“Lift your arm please, I need to know if the bullet is still in the muscle tissue.“
He gives you an incredulous look since lifting his arm would only worsen his pain. Nonetheless, he complies.
Quickly looking around his arm you don’t see an exit wound, closing your eyes in pity for the stranger, you know what you are going to say next, definitely won’t be easy.
“Let me guess. That thing is still in there.” He looks to the ceiling of your bathroom with a tight smile.
“U-Uhm yes. I told you to go to a hospital. It needs to be surgically removed. I really recommend it Mr….”, you drift off as you don’t recall knowing his name.
He looks at you and realizes he’s never introduced himself to you properly.
“Name’s Atsumu Miya, ya can call me Atsumu.”
Later on, Atsumu enters the familiar door of the headquarters of the ‘Fox Den’ and lets out a heavy sigh.
The pent-up frustration from the fight with Karasuno, the pain, and the treatment that he had to bite through with you is making his body insanely tired from exhaustion.
Nonetheless, he needs to give a report to his boss, the leader of the Inarizaki gang of Hyogo.
Atsumu walks down the hallway that has multiple doors connected to it and since it’s awfully quiet, Atsumu guesses that most members are either asleep or away on missions.
Entering the lift at the end of the hallway, he presses the ‘5’ button for the conference rooms and where also the office of his boss.
Swinging back and forth on his heels, Atsumu waits until the elevator stops and continues his path to the room of the leader of Inarizaki.
Once he arrives at his destination, he knocks first, before entering.
“Hey Kita, 'm back from the mission." The blonde says when he steps into the office.
A man who has silver hair with black tips in it, is sitting at the desk and he briefly looks up from his laptop with a stoic face, before looking down again, continuing to type something down.
Ignoring the warm greeting of his boss, Atsumu plops down on one of the chairs in front of the desk and puts his arms behind his head to stretch.
Unfortunately, he completely forgot about the injury on his arm, immediately putting the injured arm down again with a winced hiss.
The head of the gang looks at his trusted friend before a slight frown of concern decorates his face.
“What happened?“ he asks in a calm voice.
“Oh, you know the usual. Just some fuckers from Karasuno in our territory and one of them fucking shot me.“ Atsumu explains while gently rubbing over his arm, feeling the wrapped bandage from you underneath his jacket.
His frown deepens at the mention of their rival gang, the Karasuno crows, but listens quietly.
“Do you need medical attention? Do you want me to send Ginjima or Riseki up?“ He continues to question him.
“Nah, I am good Kita. Got stitched up by this cute girl that I met while I was bleedin‘ out like a pig in a women’s restroom by the train station.“ Atsumu pulls his sleeve to reveal the bandage.
Kita glances at the bandage on his friend‘s arm, a mix between concern and anger but also suspicion haunts his face.
He slowly gets up from his chair and rounds his table with slow steps, making his way toward the older twin.
The injured man looks at him with curious eyes while raising his eyebrow in confusion.
The silver-haired man stares at one of his most trusted right-hand man with a neutral expression and puts his arms behind his back.
“Tell me more about this mysterious medic girl.“ He demands.
Atsumu grins mischievously at his boss and begins to tell him about his fight to the encounter of meeting you.
Yawning, you stretched out your exhausted limbs and climbed into your comforting blue soft blankets. The feeling of your head hitting the cushy pillow makes you sigh in bliss. It was a long day, first the rowdy patients, then getting vomited on by a drunk homeless person that almost overdosed, and then there was the injured blonde-haired stranger you met tonight. You’re not going to lie, it was a whole mountain of stupid to just invite a stranger over to your apartment. Anxiously, you remember, that he mentioned he didn’t want to go to the hospital to get patched up because he needs to stay anonymous.
The only question is…
Why does he need to do that?
Your thoughts are interrupted when your phone vibrates with a message. You curiously pick it up to see what the notification is.
Eyes widening in shock and also a concern, you glance at your screen.
Unknown number
‘Thank you for taking care of my friend. I would like to repay you some time for your kind service’

Hi 👋 love your writing so much❤️❤️
I am currently having an allergic reactions. Nothing super serious but having rashes on your face that itch like crazy still sucks😅
Could you maybe write something about Charles reacting to his partner having an allergic reaction?❤️
Breathless // Charles Leclerc
Tumblr media
Tree nuts were the bane of your existence. It’s fair to say that after a seemingly innocent cookie sent you into anaphylactic shock as a toddler, you developed a certain hatred for the allergen that somehow always appeared in food that it had no business being in.
The allergy followed you into adulthood and so did the long-standing tradition of reading every single ingredient label while grocery shopping and asking to speak to the chef about your dietary restrictions while out to eat.
Thankfully, your boyfriend of two years was more than understanding. He was a professional athlete himself and was no stranger to being careful about what you put in your body. Charles even had a list of tried and true snacks around the paddock memorized and would bring you something to nibble on every race day while he went through his routine.
Today he pulled you away from a conversation with some young engineers to hand you a cappuccino and some biscotti from Ferrari hospitality, “the usual for mon amour.”
“Thank you, my darling.” You lean up to press a gentle kiss to his lips and pull away laughing as your stomach growls, “perfect timing.”
You take a bite of a biscotto, “this tastes different. Did they change the flavor?”
“They had it noted as the same lemon biscotti I always get you so I don’t think so.”
But as you continued to chew, you knew something was wrong. Your throat felt tight and tongue felt swollen. Blood rushed in your ears as the garage around you turned blurry.
Charles knew the signs, “love? What’s wrong?”
You tried to say something but your airway had quickly become too constricted to speak so you desperately gestured at your throat as you continued taking small, wheezing breaths.
He rushed to sit you in the closest chair he could find and begged whatever staff was nearby to keep an eye on you, “I have epinephrine in my driver’s room. I’ll be right back, I promise. Just stay calm. And someone please call the medic.”
He must have ran there and back because he returned not even two minutes later with the familiar auto-injector and knelt in front of you before lifting your dress and jabbing the needle into your thigh with practiced motions.
The effect was almost instant as you finally gulped in much needed air.
Charles took both of your hands in his and squeezed. It felt like a lifeline — for both you and him — as you were reminded just how rapid and dangerous allergic reactions could be.
“I’m so sorry. I should’ve checked to make sure they didn’t change the recipe. It’s all my fault. If I wasn’t so complacent-”
You stopped him, your voice hoarse. “Don’t you dare blame yourself. These things happen especially when food isn’t prepackaged. What matters is that you had epinephrine and knew what to do. You saved me, Charles.”
“I’ve kept some in my driver’s room since you first started coming to races. Just in case. I wish I didn’t have to use it because of something I gave you,” he looked up at you, eyes earnest.
In that moment, you sent a little prayer of thanks to the universe at large for giving you this incredible man.
When the ambulance came shortly after, he insisted on going with you to get all the necessary checks done even if it meant he would possibly miss the race and you found yourself falling even more in love than you ever thought possible.

"Patch Me Up, Doc"
Leonard McCoy x Reader
Summary: When disaster strikes on the Enterprise and the unavoidable happens, Bones is there to patch you up again.
Character(s): Leonard "Bones" McCoy, Montgomery "Scotty" Scott, James "Jim" Kirk, Christine Chapel
Warning(s): Wounds, Minor character death, Violence, Cursing
Tumblr media
Leonard wasn't sure how his day could possibly get worse. Three cases of Ankarian flu, several engineers came in with all manner of abrasions and burns, and an ensign went into anaphylactic shock. All in the last two hours.
The one thing he had been looking forward to all day was seeing you. Today you were scheduled for your bi-monthly physical. Despite the engineering department being notorious for having the most casualties, you were one of the few exceptions.
You were always careful and aware of your surroundings and you never made silly mistakes. It was one of the things Leonard really liked about you, but that also meant he didn't see you as much as he'd like to. At least you were taking care of yourself. If that meant he only got to see your beautiful smile a few times a week, it was worth it.
Leonard looked down at his PADD and frowned. You were late, which was very unlike you. He had tried to call you multiple times, but you weren't answering any of his messages. After about thirty minutes of waiting, Leonard dialed Scotty.
"Hello?" Scotty said. In the background Bones could hear what sounded like a hundred hammers banging on pipes. That was his first clue to what was holding you up.
"Scotty, where is-" Leonard started, but was cut off by the head engineer.
"Ah! Doctor, what can I do you for?"
Bones huffed and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Lieutenant Y/L/N is late for her medical exam," He grumbled.
"Oh yeah! She mentioned something about that. Is it that time already?" Scotty asked. "We're a little busy down here. I'll send her up when we get this figured out." Suddenly there was a loud hissing sound. It was so loud that Leonard had to pull the communicator away from his ear.
"Dear god man! what's going on down there?" Bones talked over the static.
"Something strange is happening with the warp core. We're running on a power shortage."
"Power shortage? What do you mean, power shortage?" Bones implored. As if in response, the lights dimmed with a dangerous sounding hum before brightening again. "Ah. That power shortage."
"Losing power up in med bay!" Scotty announced to his crew before responding to Bones. "Don't you worry doctor, we have all hands on deck to figure out what is draining the power. When we do, I'll send your lass up for her physical."
"How long is this gonna take?" Leonard furrowed his brows.
"Oh at the rate we're going at, I'd say a couple hours at least-"
"A couple hours?! Forget it. Just tell Y/N I'll get with her later to reschedule." Bones ran a hand over his face.
"You got it lad!" Scotty hung up.
An hour went by and the power outages were growing more frequent. Leonard couldn't shake the feeling that something terrible was about to happen. But of course he was a doctor, not a psychic.
Bones busied himself at his desk filling out some patient reports, when a low rumble coursed through the ship. It vibrated the floors and walls, shaking the contents of Leonard's long forgotten coffee mug. When the shaking slowed, the lights slowly faded out and didn't turn back on.
"What the hell are they doing down there? Opening a god-damned back hole?" Bones shoved aside his chair and stormed out of his office.
The nurses in the medbay already had out their flashlights and were pulling open the automatic doors, which had frozen in place with the power outage.
"Back up generators should be switching on any minute" Nurse Chapel said as she fiddled with her PADD screen. They waited in tense silence for the lights to come on. When nothing happened, Leonard grabbed a flashlight of his own.
"I'm getting to the bottom of this mess." He grumbled and marched toward the door, only to be thrown against the wall by some strange force. The nurses, biobeds and all manner of medical equipment felt the impact as well. Dimly, Bones registered a loud boom from deep within the enterprise that rattled his insides. What followed was the sound of emergency sirens and flashing red lights.
"Everyone okay?" Leonard called out as he pulled himself up. There were various murmurs of agreement as the nurses regained their balance. Dr M'Benga rushed in soon after, along with a steady flow of medical personnel. Everyone worked in a frenzy to prep the medbay for...whatever it was that was happening.
"Jim! medbay to bridge! Pick up dammit!" Leonard hollered into his communicator over the blaring sirens.
"Bones! Read you loud and clear!" Jim responded.
"What in god's name is going on? are we under attack?!" Leonard could barely hear himself think over the sound of the red alert.
"Not entirely sure."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"It means, i'll get back to you on that. Right now I need a medical team down in engineering ASAP!"
Leonard felt his stomach drop. That must have been where the explosion was. 'All hands on deck' Scotty had said. So many people were down there. He was down there.
You were down there. Dammit.
Leonard hung up and grabbed his kit "Alpha shift, you're coming with me to engineering. Beta and Gamma shift, stay here and get ready. I have a feeling we're gonna be busy."
~~~
Down in engineering, you struggled to stand. Your legs felt weak and your head was pounding. The room was spinning and it was unbearably hot. You couldn't hear anything at first, the ringing was so bad. Then the ringing turned into sirens, then into shouting. Your eyes adjusted to the lights.
There was fire everywhere. The whole engine room was a mess of destroyed systems and fallen cross beams. You couldn't recall what happened at first, then slowly you remembered the alien device. the one harvesting the power. There must have been multiple, and they must have been bombs.
Amid the grogginess, you heard your communicator beeping. It was Scotty.
"M'here boss" Your voice sounded much more hoarse than you were expecting. you must have been screaming when you went down.
"Where are you? I've been trying to find you!" Scotty yelled from the other end.
"I'm by the eastern bulkhead." You pushed yourself up on your knees to survey your surroundings.
"That's perfect! Captain says they see an unfamiliar ship closing in. Given the circumstances, we can assume it's not too friendly."
"Affirmative," You whole-heartedly agreed as you struggled to your feet.
"We haven't enough power for shields. The captain needs us to redirect all the power to the warp coils."
You huffed, catching your breath. "Consider it done, be careful Scotty." you hung up and hooked your communicator to your belt. The smoke was terrible and it was hard to breathe, but you had a job to do. You grabbed a rogue toolkit and rushed toward one of the massive power panels. On the way there, you saw something that froze you in your tracks.
It was an ensign trapped under a large pipe. She appeared to be incapacitated. You dropped everything and rushed over to her.
"Nella! Can you hear me?" You cried out. She didn't respond. "Nella, I'm going to get you out of here! Just hold on!"
You grabbed one end of the pipe and started lifting, but it wouldn't budge. "Come on!" You grunted, putting everything you had into it. You pulled and pulled, but you couldn't free her alone. "Help! over here! Someone!"
Footsteps. Your prayers had been answered. Dr. McCoy came rushing around the corner with his med kit and those strong arms you needed right about now.
"Leonard! Thank god, I need your help! She's trapped, I can't get it myself!" You swallowed the lump in your throat. You were so glad to see him, Bones always seemed to appear just when you needed him.
Leonard froze when he saw the ensign on the floor and held up his tricorder.
"Come on doctor, we gotta get it off of her" You said through gritted teeth, fighting to lift the pipe off your fellow engineer.
Leonard's scanner beeped and he sighed. "Y/N, I... I'm sorry." He placed a firm hand on your shoulder.
You froze, trying to comprehend what he meant by that. "You...what?" You asked in a daze.
"She's gone Y/N," he squeezed your shoulder.
You let go of the pipe and turned your gaze to the ceiling. You were on the verge of a breakdown and you needed to stay calm. There were other people, living people, who needed your help right now. You pressed the heels of your palms to your eyes and took a deep breath.
Leonard moved his hand to your back. "Lieutenant, we have to go."
You steeled yourself, grabbed your tool bag from the ground and darted toward the power panel. Leonard grunted and hurried after you.
"The doors are this way! where are you going?" Bones caught up with you as you navigated the mess of wires, pipes, and rubble.
"To redirect the power!"
"Slow down dammit, you're injured!"
"If I don't transfer the power to the warp coils, all of us are gonna be dealing more than just a few bumps and scrapes, Doctor"
"What you have there is not a 'scrape' Darlin' you've practically sprung a leak!"
"Perfect! You can follow my blood trail!" Everything was going wrong. This was one big, terrible nightmare. The floor shook again and you stumbled forward into the power panel. Leonard fell into you from behind, that was when you noticed the searing pain in your side.
"Shit," you winced.
"What did I tell ya?" Leonard grumbled as he helped you up. You reached for the controls, only to find the displays were fried. With a cry of defeat, you slammed your fist into the keyboard.
"Nothing can ever be EASY, can it?! Time to get creative then!" You went to the side of the panel and pried it open to reveal it's mechanical innards. "You work on me, I'll work on this!"
Bones didn't need to be told twice. He dove into his medical bag for his hypo spray and bandages; meanwhile, you were looking for the command cable that would allow you to divert all the power coming into the panel to the warp coils.
You ignored the sting of the hypo entering your neck and focused on finding your coveted wire.
"Lifting your dress Lieutenant." Leonard warned, already gripping the bottom hem.
"Do what you gotta do doctor, modesty is the last thing on my mind right now." You groused as you dug deeper into the panel. Not that modesty was an issue, you were wearing leggings after all.
He lifted your dress and winced on your behalf. Bones gave it some sort of antibacterial spray that burned like hell despite the pain medicine he injected you with. The barrage of what you assumed to be phaser cannons didn't lighten up. The floor kept shaking, but neither of you payed it any mind.
The world seemed to slow as you finally found the cable. "YES!" You beamed, ripping it out of it's socket.
"Woah, woah, woah. You're messin' up your bandages!"
"No time for bandages! I have to get these cables into that panel" You pointed across the destroyed engine room. "That'll reroute the power, then we can get the hell out of here!" You struggled to stand amid the shaking and Leonard hoisted you up. If the circumstances weren't so terrible, you would have relished in the feeling of his arms around you. Unfortunately, time was of the essence. Once you were on your feet, you were already running through the wreckage to the panel. Leonard was hot on your heels, shielding his face from the flames as he ran.
A powerful crash sent you flying forward yet again, knocking the wind out of you. Behind you, Leonard was in a similar predicament. You didn't stop. All you had to do was plug it in, then the enterprise would finally be out of danger. You tore into the panel. This time you knew just where the cord was supposed to go. You ripped the old cord free and replaced it with the new one.
Instantly you felt the ship lurch forward. All at once, the shaking stopped. The familiar hum of the warp coils lulled you into a sense of ease. You were back on your feet, the ground steady beneath you. You turned and found Bones, pulling himself off the ground. Your relief was immeasurable. It was all over. The ship was safe.
Leonard was safe.
You smiled so brightly, Bones was sure it out shined even the brightest star in the galaxy.
Unfortunately for you, the universe was against you that day. You took one step toward him and your world lit up. You saw nothing. The only thing you felt was pain. The last thing you heard before drifting away was the sound of Leonard, crying out for you.
~~~
An incessant beeping stirred you from your slumber, that and the terrible ache you felt in every part of your body. It took a long time for you to work up the courage to open your eyes, but when you did, you were blinded by the overhead lights in the medbay.
You groaned and tried to shield your eyes with your arm, but you just felt so weak. Instead, you closed your eyes and hoped your head would stop throbbing
"Lights at 50%" A familiar voice drawled.
You peeked your eyes open again and hummed approvingly at the light levels.
"Hey darlin'...how are you feeling?" Leonard asked as he sat on the edge of your biobed. He looked so tired. You just wanted to reach up, take his face into your hands and hold him until he fell into a restful sleep.
"Like I was swallowed by the sun and spit back out again." You tried to smile.
"Well, at least you're feeling something." He placed the back of his hand on your forehead. "I'd be mighty worried if you felt nothing at all."
You closed your eyes and sighed, relishing in his gentle touch. "How are you feeling?" You asked softly.
He chuckled lowly and slowly pulled his hand away. "You nearly get blown to bits and you're asking me how i'm doing?"
"Have you slept?" You ignored his question.
Leonard sighed "you are something else... Not yet. Don't think I could fall asleep if I tried," he reached up and tapped on the screen of the biobed to check your vitals. You wanted to say something, anything. You wanted to thank him, reassure him, tell him you'd do it all again if you had to.
"I'm gonna check your bandages sweetheart. It might sting a little, but I'll try to be gentle," he said whispered.
"I trust you Len," you gave him a tired smile.
Bones pulled back the sheet on the bed. Your arms were all bandaged and one of your legs was in a cast. You couldn't see the rest of you under the hospital gown. The cold air stung your burns and you clenched your teeth. Leonard pulled up the side of the gown to check your cut. You had nearly forgotten about that wound amidst all your new ones.
"Just as I thought," he muttered "Time to change your bandages. Y/N, are you-"
"Patch me up, doc." You closed your eyes and tried to relax.
Leonard frowned and heaved a sigh through his nose. He brought his hands to the bandages, but stopped just sort of cutting them off. He was much quieter than usual. You were used to his grumpy complaining, his witty banter. His silence was unsettling, his hesitation even more so.
"Bones?" You whispered.
"Y/N, I...." He trailed off and looked at you. His eyes glistened with unshed tears. The sight of him so distraught... You didn't know what you were feeling. You focused hard and ignored the pain as you lifted your arm.
"H-hey, don't-" he started. You ignored him and brought your hand to his cheek. He closed his eyes and swallowed thickly.
"I'm not going anywhere..." You said softly. "Not now, not ever."
"You can't possibly promise me that darlin'..." His voice came out as a broken rumble.
"I can't promise you that I won't get hurt... I can't promise that I will never be in danger. But I can promise that no matter what happens to me, I will always come back to you... who else would I trust to make me better again?" You brushed your thumb over his cheekbone. He ghosted his fingertips over your hand and pressed a tender kiss to your palm.
It was then that you knew everything had changed.
"I'm gonna hold you to that," Leonard whispered against your skin.
"I wish you'd hold me in other ways too," you giggled.
Leonard smiled and shook his head. "We'll discuss all that when you're better."
"Well, then you'd better get a move on doctor~"

Get to know you better!
Tagged by @frostysfrenzy ❤️️
Do you make your bed? Absolutely not and I don't think I ever have 😂
Favourite number? 12?
What’s your job? Tech support. It's low effort and therefore low wage, but every little helps.
If you could go back to school, would you? If I could do it online, then yeah. I don't want to have turn up in a lecture theatre and socialise with people face-to-face.
Can you parallel park? I've never tried.
Do you think aliens are real? Yes. I've always thought the belief that we're the only intelligent life in the infinite universe we live in to be naïve at best and arrogant at worst. The conversation as to what form that life might take... Now that's completely different. I don't think we'll be running into people who look exactly like us. But there are SO many forms that life could take...
Can you drive a manual car? I had a few lessons like 10 years ago and it wasn't terribly difficult, so I reckon I could do it in an emergency.
Guilty pleasure? Chocolate, specifically twirls. I eat way too many of them!
Tattoos? No, but I'd like some. I do have a phobia of needles, however, so...
Favourite colour? Red
Favourite type of music? Alternative rock.
Do you like puzzles? Ooh yes. I've spent so much time playing The Talos Principle, as well as the Portal games.
Any phobias? Needles. I've got a bad peanut allergy and I went into anaphylactic shock when I was 12. Woke up in the ambulance with a massive adrenaline needle sticking out of my arm and it stuck with me. Can't even look at them on TV, which has made Covid even worse than it already was.
Favourite childhood sport? Football (soccer). I was a goalkeeper and was fucking good at it. If I'd been born in the right body I would have tried to make a living out of it.
Do you talk to yourself? Lmao yeah
Tea or coffee? Neither? I don't like the taste of tea and the smell of coffee makes me feel sick. 🤢
What movies do you adore? The original 4-movie run of the Alien franchise and the first Prometheus movie. I really hope the new movie they're doing is better than the second Prometheus one, because that was just Generic Horror Movie™ and the franchise is so much more than that!

me: lol hannibal would really hate if he ever had me as a dinner guest because i'm a vegetarian with a lot of weird allergies and he'd despise having to cater to them, but would to keep up appearances
me a few minutes later: actually he'd probably end up killing me over it, after a dinner party in which he had to cater to my dietary restrictions because it would piss him off so much
me a few more minutes later: he'd invite me over again after the dinner party and would serve me something made with my allergens then stand over me while i went into anaphylactic shock. he would also definitely reveal there was human meat in the dish while doing so.
even later: ACTUALLY he'd invite me over BEFORE the dinner party to "test run some options" then put allergens and human meat in the food and watch me die. i'd be the main course at the dinner party i was initially invited to.

Oh wow, Prequel AND Homestuck updated this week? What year is it?
Dehydrated, grieving, and coming off of a particularly nasty sugar high
Sugar high, huh? One of my little theories is that Jane has the lollipop Juju still. Is that a theory? Maybe it was confirmed at some point and is just a thing that happened? I dunno, man, this comic's so long.
JANE: Sigh. JANE: Jake, do you remember when I went to the moon?
Jane's been to like several moons at this point but wait is this in reference to the snapchat epilogues, where Jane was kidnapped by carapcians? Those are actually officially not canon and no longer available, which I supposed makes them appropriate to mention in a story about the nebulous nature of "canon" to stories. Or maybe she's talking about something else.
JAKE: Uuuuuuuuuuuuh. JANE: No? It was a huge deal. JAKE: Was this around the time all those carapacians took a big chunk out of it?
Tumblr media
Oh my god, it is referencing the Snapchat epilogues. They ended in a cliffhanger and got deleted, but Jane got kidnapped by someone and sent to the moon, where she met Jack Noir (the one who became Beq Noir) and the Felt who were there for some reason and then the Snapchat comics abruptly stopped and were decanonized so it was never explained.
JANE: Just what did *you* do, besides whimper like a kicked dog, as they took our boy away!? JANE: "TAVVY!" JANE: You can fly, you idiot! JANE: You're such a harmless, dunderheaded fucking nonentity that those seditious connivers would have *let* you tail them! DIRK: (Ouch.) JANE: Everything he has, *I've* provided. JANE: Everything he is, *I've* nurtured! JAKE: (Criminy, bro, she has a death laser.) JAKE: (Like goldfinger.) JANE: Remember how I willed him out of my body, 3 months premature, because I was so excited to see him?
This is Homestuck, so the line about how Jane forced Tavvy to be born early is either a what the fuck random joke like the guy who confessed to Jade he microwaved a hamster, or crucial important foreshadowing that'll pay off in 600 pages. Quite possibly both.
JANE: Across all the iterations of yourself, do you think your children ever felt even a MODICUM of that? JANE: Jade? Terrifying, JANE: I hate even thinking about it. JANE: And I don't doubt for a second that there were more. JANE: How do you imagine they turned out?
Speaking of referencing Other Media, this is an unintentional reference to Grandpa Harley's secret kids from Hiveswap, in particular Joey, who seemed to really hate him and have good reason for doing so. Lot of Expanded Universe references suddenly. It might be that this particular writer has a thing for references, but it might also be setting something up. And earlier update also referenced Pesterquest.
Also, engaging with the text on a non-meta level, yeah, Jake English is top ten worst parents in Homestuck, though he's still beating Jane herself.
Tumblr media
Messy Jerry Springer melodrama?! In Candy?! Unprecedented.
JAKE: Gamzee. JAKE: Via some vile cosmic caper or another it is *always* gamzee! JAKE: He found out! JAKE: Started rambling on and on about "how motherfuckin' malicious" it was to see "A dIfFeReNtLy AbLeD bRoThEr MiSsIn' OuT oN tHe NiRvAnA oF tHaT nUtTy MoThErFuCkIn' NeCtAr." DIRK: (Why are you doing the voice?) JAKE: "ThErE's WhOlEsOmE, hOlIsTiC hEaLiNg PrOpErTiEs AlL uP aNd StUfFeD iNtO tHe HaRmOnIoUs UnIoN oF pB aNd J." DIRK: (You don't need to do the voice.) JAKE: "WhAt EvEn Is ThIs SuLtRy BiTcH oF a LiFe WiThOuT a LiTtLe PeAnUt BuTtEr JeLlY tImE?" DIRK: (It'd be so sick if you stopped doing the voice.)
Homestuck characters impersonating each other is always a solid gag.
JAKE: After that, the insane clown started stowing peanuts around the mansion, tricking little tavvy into eating them! JAKE: Poor squirt was thrashing throat-first into anaphylactic shock bi-weekly. JAKE: I epipenned him so many times, i learned needlekind! JAKE: Worried myself as sick as our boy was, just wishing that nutty nightmare would nix. JAKE: Then, wham. JAKE: It did! JAKE: Thank god! JANE: I- JANE: I had no idea. JAKE: Of course you didnt! JAKE: You werent there! JAKE: You might have expelled him into existence with your easy-bake tuna canoe. JAKE: But i kept him alive!
I'm not sure if that's how peanut allergies work, but "easy-bake tuna canoe" sure is a line.
JANE: I didn't even fucking breast feed him! DIRK: (Which is fucking crazy, all things considered.) JANE: I don't... even know what his first word was. JAKE: It was "honk." JANE: Jesus Christ.
This is such a fucking weird family. Also, a very odd attempt at a Jane...redemption arc? I guess it's important to make her more than a Trump analogue, even if there's a worryingly high chance of that reference becoming relevant again soon.
JANE: The rest of you couldn't be trusted! JANE: None of you even bothered to graduate high school! JANE: While you were all being shut-ins, and self-destructing, and fucking... cavorting!!! I was making public appearances. JANE: Somebody had to represent us, so people wouldn't assume the worst! JANE: They waited 5000 years for us, and for what? To see there was no plan, no reason, that none of their gods were really on their side. JANE: I had to become an adult before ANY of you decided to catch up.
I feel like this motivation doesn't really explain the Troll racism. I was kind of hoping that Jane, like Rose, didn't think of Earth C as "real" and was basically just larping as a dictator in their little game, and that's why she helped raise Yiffy. It seems like we're going in the opposite direction? Jane wanted to live up to the status of a God? You can kind of tell this wasn't the original plan for her.
JANE: I even forgave you for Dirk. JAKE: Forgave me for... for being with him? JANE: What? JANE: No, I was always an ally first when it came to that. JANE: What's a... a dalliance between bros, really? DIRK: (Word.)
Everyone in this comic is some kind of lunatic.
JANE: Dirk just never *got* you. JANE: He thought he could figure you out, make all the right moves, and you'd be happy. JANE: But people have to want themselves to be happy. JANE: And the only thing you've ever consistently wanted was to be absolved. JANE: I understand that now. JAKE: ... And? JANE: And I accept you, Jake! JANE: That's why I have confidence our union will endure forever. JANE: You release me of all my doubts. And I can't be disappointed by you. JAKE: Huh...
Jane's....maybe not wrong in her reading of Jake, here. His whole shtick is wanting to be a cool action hero, or at least a respectable dude, and not being able to do so. But Jane's wrong that he can't disappoint her.
JAKE: Do you still need that water tested? JANE: Haha, no. JANE: I drank it all in my hysterics without even noticing. JAKE: And youre okay? JANE: Completely fine! It really was just... water.
This is pretty clearly Thematique™. None of the threats Jane is worried about are ultimately real.
JAKE: Her guard is down... DIRK: And you have a gun. JAKE: I have TWO guns.
I do love, though, that we immediately transition from Jane going "I will love and forgive Jake forever, for I have nothing to truly fear" directly into Jake going "I should shoot my wife".
Tumblr media
DIRK: He's gone, dude.
Oh, this is a great reveal. Brain Ghost dirk lowers his glasses so we can see he has Jake-Green eyes, confirming to Jake (and the audience) that this Dirk is a figment of Jake's imagination, and not "connected" to Ultimate Dirk in any way. That's just such a cool way of conveying that information.
DIRK: It'd be the only reasonable excuse you'd have for nipping this uncomfortable epiphany in the bud so you could slink back to following orders from Dirk. JAKE: ... JAKE: Gods hooks, i backflipped right into my old ways! DIRK: Don't beat yourself up about it. It's a running theme with literally everybody we know. DIRK: You all get caught up in these feeling jams, hugging it out in self-realizational bliss. DIRK: Then, bam. DIRK: Premature ejaculation. DIRK: That passionate growth grind ends before it builds to anything actually satisfying.
And Brain Ghost Dirk telling Jake the real hard truth that he needs to stop listening to Dirk and looking for someone to tell him what to do.
DIRK: You're fully dressed Jake now. DIRK: Sitting on the sticky floor of a custodial closet, hidden away from anything certain and good in this world. DIRK: Alone. JAKE: This is scary! I dont like this. DIRK: Fuck yeah it is. This is sweaty, achey, burning transformation, brother. JAKE: I want to go back! I want to be the other guy again. DIRK: You can't be the other guy anymore, Jake. DIRK: We're sending him upstate to live on a beautiful farm, where they're gonna immediately drag him out back and put him out of his fucking misery. DIRK: Remember when you told Egbert you wanted someone to hold you accountable? JAKE: No. DIRK: Well. JAKE: Nooooooo. DIRK: "Here's Johnny!" JAKE: AAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! JAKE: Oh...
This is very Disco Elysium
JAKE: Cripes, if there really is no magical component to all of this, JAKE: if youre really gone, JAKE: then i am simply a forty year old man... being led by the nose... by an imaginary friend. JAKE: That is not cute. DIRK: It's kind of cute. JAKE: No! JAKE: Its mental illness! DIRK: It can be both.
It's also Homestuck
JAKE: Everyone is waiting around for this better version of me to pop up, but thats never going to happen. JAKE: Because if it did, it wouldn't be me anymore. DIRK: So, are you trapped being Mr. Pissy Pantyloos Loser Man no matter what? JAKE: Sort of.
Jake is defined by being a loser. What happens if he grows? He becomes someone else, same as happens to us all when we change.
JAKE: I never really understood all that much of the "doomed timeline" hoopla you cerebral types tend to gab on about. JAKE: But... its nice to think that there might be countless janes somewhere out there who never stopped being happy. JAKE: Baking, getting up to all manner of lighthearted mischiefs... true blue all around. JAKE: When i think of her, thats whats real to me. JAKE: What she is now, what these rotten unenviable circumstances have made of her, its all just... DIRK: Happenstance. JAKE: Is that stupid? DIRK: Probably, but you're a god of Hope.
Aw, I like that take.
JAKE: If i can believe in those janes, JAKE: i think i can let this one go. DIRK: Extravagant hoops to stumble through just to keep believing, man. DIRK: It's sneaky. I like it.
Even if this is the most cynical take on a hope-based hero I've ever seen.
Tumblr media
Oh hey, it's the kids! All together for the first time! I'm shocked this big meeting is happening silently like this while someone else conversation narrates over it.
Fun fact: At no point in the entirely of Homestuck do John, Jade, Rose, and Dave have a conversation with all four of them together.
Tumblr media
I was wrong last time, this is the page leading into the promised big flash. There is no longer anything left in Meat or Candy do to but [S] Get to the Point.
