Is it weird that I don't want Silksong to be a launch title on the Switch if that's a possibility? I'd rather wait a few more months so it doesn't have to compete with everything else coming around that time

Ghost had been on his phone since Soap had entered the rec room. Not unusual, he tended to read emails or news articles in his spare time. No, what was unusual was that he had his phone sideways. Occasionally tapping at the screen with a thumb. Gaming then.
The 141's resident emo was full of surprises, one being that Ghost loved video games. The man had an old Playstation 3 that might as well have been his first born, the way he adored it. If the PS3 were his first child, then his Xbox One was rebellious problem child, the way he cursed it constantly, threatening to dismantle it and use its husk as a doorstop. Something about changing constantly, and adds on startup had been his most recent rant. He swore he loved it too, but the favoritism was obvious.
Ghost would be found in his room on one of the two consoles nearly every evening. With how often Soap found him gaming, this behavior shouldn't have struck him as odd, and yet it was the first time he'd ever seen the man play anything on his phone.
"Ya winnin', Lt.?" The glare he earned for that comment had him cackling as he fixed himself a midday coffee.
Soap sat down on the sofa with Ghost and turned on the TV. Ghost continued with whatever he was doing.
Beneath his mask the man's brow was pinched, he chewed his bottom lip, and each tap of his thumb was marginally more firm than the last. Ghost was seething, then.
Soap abandoned his show and instead watched something much more entertaining; Ghost's apparent descent into madness. He huffed on occasion, shifted in his seat, hunched his shoulders, and glared daggers down at his phone, a look that could make any of the rookies on base cry and wet themselves.
Soap was delighted. After he finished his coffee he jogged back to his room and snatched his journal so he could draw Ghost having his fit, he wanted to commit it to memory.
Soap was nearly done with his sketch, though it was a bit more than a simple sketch, nearing realism with how much detail he'd poured into Ghost's stormy eyes, when Ghost spoke quietly and for the first time in nearly an hour of them sharing space. "This game is for godless heathens."
Soap nearly lost it, just barely managing to smother the laugh that bubbled forth. He coughed to hide what little escaped him, and used his hand to hide his face, scrubbing down to erase the smile that tried to give him away. "What, ah, what're you even playin', Ghost?"
"Tile Towers, on Webkinz."
Soap did lose it then. He'd seen the now ancient stuffy in Ghost's quarters, a scraggly looking leopard, but couldn't wrap his head around the man actually playing the game, let alone getting this angry over a mini game for children. He laughed so hard it hurt, tears streamed down his face, and Ghost booted him off the couch without even looking away from his phone.
***
Written by someone who recently found out that webkinz classic has a mobile app, and rediscovered their utter hatred for Tile Towers. Why do I keep playing it? It's awful, fucking stupid! And yet I keep. Going. Back. I'm also miffed that my original account has been deactivated. I've only been absent for like 13 years! Come on! 🤬

Dorothy's Top Five Games of 2024
Honorable Mentions:
Suzerain: A gripping and fully-developed world of politics and international relations, Suzerain released its Rizia DLC this year, and I played through both it and the main campaign. Its realistic portrayal of political and economic processes, in the backdrop of a world almost our own, proved extremely addictive.
Goodbye Volcano High: A heartfelt and moving interactive animated miniseries about coming of age in apocalyptic times, with some great indie rock-flavored music.
We Love Katamari Reroll: A delightful followup to the original Katamari Damacy, We Love Katamari is more of the same - and what more could you ask?
Sea of Stars: A beautiful love letter to classic JRPGs, with gorgeous environments, delightful timing-based combat, endearing characters, and wonderful music, including guest tracks composed by legend Yasunori Mitsuda.
Dragon Age: the Veilguard: Now the story of a studio who lost everything, and the one game that had no choice but to get them back on track. It’s Arrested Development.
And now, the list proper.
Fifth Place: Penny's Big Breakaway (Evening Star)

I have a tremendous soft spot for 3D platformers. Some of my earliest memories of video games involve playing Super Mario Sunshine, Sonic Adventure 2, and Spyro (the bad one) on GameCube.
Penny's Big Breakaway feels like a refugee from that era of platformer, one which would have felt at home on the Dreamcast, GameCube, or even the original Xbox or PlayStation 2. It combines energetic, almost frantic platforming with a high skill ceiling and combo system with a turn-of-the-century graphical aesthetic and fantastic music by Tee Lopes to provide a return to form for a genre which has for too long been permitted to languish.
As with most 3D platformers, story is not a major focus. You play as Penny, a yo-yo-toting busker who ends up running afoul of an emperor and must escape imprisonment by his army of colorful penguins. That's it. That's all you need. This simple premise provides ample excuse for Penny to run, jump, and roll her way through a host of themed worlds. Sometimes, less is more.
With that said, this is not a perfect game. The controls take a lot of time and effort to master, and even after a good amount of play time one is liable to fling oneself off of the map. Health powerups are not as plentiful as they should be, especially in boss encounters, and a lack of camera control can be downright painful at times. Still, these complaints do not ruin the game, and hopefully they can be addressed in a sequel.
The developers of Sonic Mania have created a true gem with this, the debut game from new studio Evening Star, and I look forward to seeing what the studio comes out next - like the best platformer mascots, Penny has the charisma and style to inspire adventures for years to come.
Fourth Place: Neva (Nomada Studio)
Neva is the latest release from Nomada Studio, creators of the brilliant game Gris, and where Gris was a parable of grief and loss, Neva is an ecological fable in which a girl and her dog must make their way through an increasingly-ravaged natural world beset by decay and corruption.
The core gameplay of Neva builds and iterates upon what was seen in Gris, with a dash, double jump, and ground pound, but added in are a sword, which main character Alba uses to fight enemies as well as unlock obstacles, and abilities involving the titular dog which are unlocked over the course of the game. The combat is fun but fairly rudimentary, and I saw it as a garnish on the real focus of the game, which is robust and engaging puzzle platforming of the kind that made Gris such a delight.
The game, as expected of Nomada Studio, is gorgeous, with a beautiful art style, impeccable sound design, brilliant use of color, and haunting, atmospheric music. The level design is also excellent, spanning a number of natural environments which are slowly but surely overtaken by the creeping decay, as well as man-made structures resembling those in Gris, which are also crumbling and in a state of decay. The degradation of nature and collapse of the structures of man are linked in Neva, giving rise to uncomfortable thoughts about the state of the world today.
Neva is defined by cycles, cycles of life, death, decomposition, and the cycle of the seasons, which give each of the game's four chapters their names. The game ends in an echo of its beginning, a beautiful and bittersweet ending I will not spoil here.
Neva is a hauntingly beautiful, if frustratingly short, gaming experience which I think will stay with me for a long time. I felt compelled to hug my dog after it was done.
Third Place: Metaphor: ReFantazio (Studio Zero)

When Metaphor was first announced, the impression that everyone got was that it was fantasy Persona, with a large amount of development staff carried over from the Hashino Persona games, a lot of mechanics and systems carried over from those games, and even some summonable demons from the mainline Persona and Shin Megami Tensei games. Commentators made note that this was fantasy Persona. Journalists endlessly referred to it as fantasy Persona. Reviewers regarded it as fantasy Persona. It was such a cliche, so aggravating to fans, that it became verboten in the fanbase to refer to the game as fantasy Persona.
Metaphor: ReFantazio is fantasy Persona. This is in no way a bad thing. As in the Hashino Persona games, there is an emphasis on social simulation, with the main character forging bonds with his party members and honing his social skills - not to self-actualize as a social being, as in Persona, but to prove his mettle and worthiness as a king to a kingdom cast into chaos after the last king's murder.
It is this emphasis on fantasy that sets Metaphor apart. The game is constantly musing on fantasy tropes and the transformative nature of the genre, and it has a surprising amount to say about the appeal of fantasy narratives, to say nothing of its overarching themes of prejudice and self-determination.
In terms of gameplay, Metaphor actually takes a lot more from the Press Turn system of Shin Megami Tensei than the One More system of Persona, and it took me a while to get into the groove of it. Once I did, though, I had a great time chaining attacks to strike at opponents' weaknesses and finishing my turns with devastating damage via the game's Synthesis mechanic. The game's central gameplay feature, the Archetype system - a sort of job system like those in Sqaure Enix RPGs - was also something I took to readily after some initial fiddling. The game lets you mix and match abilities from different archetypes via the skill inheritance system, and I had a lot of fun creating an ideal build for each playable character.
And then, of course, there's the characters. Metaphor features a large cast of characters, and I was happy to see that all of the social link equivalents featured strong and compelling narratives that made the time needed to invest in each rank of their story a worthy commitment. In particular, I found the narratives of Eupha, Heismay, and Maria especially compelling, and the bonuses provided through spending time with them to be particularly valuable.
Metaphor: ReFantazio is fantasy Persona. And that's a good thing! It's a great game, and I hope it's one that gets revisited sooner rather than later. Studio Zero have produced a real gem for their debut title, and I really hope they keep the momentum going.
Second Place: Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut (Sucker Punch Productions)

I am a huge fan of the works of director Akira Kurosawa - Throne of Blood is my favorite film of all time - and the jidaigeki genre of samurai films in general, so when I learned that Sucker Punch was making a game inspired by the genre I was filled with excitement which turned to dismay when I learned that the game would be PlayStation exclusive. Thankfully, though, little stays PlayStation exclusive for long, and I was happy to finally play Ghost of Tsushima when its Director's Cut released on PC this year.
The setup of Ghost of Tsushima is pretty simple, and slots in nicely with its genre - you play as Jin Sakai, the sole survivor of a massacre of samurai at the hands of invading Mongols, and must use all the tools at your disposal to free the jito, your uncle, and liberate your island home of Tsushima. Along the way, you begin to chafe at the code of honor you are expected to uphold as a samurai and as your uncle's heir apparent. While Ghost does have a simple premise, it is its characters, and their struggles and dreams, which kept me invested throughout the experience.
The game's combat is consistently satisfying, with the player rotating through various swordfighting stances to counter specific enemy types, while also having access to a bow, bombs, poison darts, and various quickfire items which can disrupt enemies and allow you to control the flow of combat. It's a fun system to master and learn how to get through any encounter without taking any damage. Occasionally the game also puts you in one on one duels with certain enemies, which are always fantastic - the one at the end of the game especially.
Where Ghost really shines, though, is in its exploration. I wouldn't call Ghost of Tsushima a true open world game - the player's access to the island's various regions is gated by story progression, and you unlock more of Tsushima as you progress, while having free reign of any area you have access to at any given time. The game heavily rewards exploration with a variety of activities and collectibles, which differentiate themselves from the typical Ubisoft-style open world icons by being fun, useful, and engaging. You'll scale mountains to reach a shrine to a kami, or rest for a while in a hot spring to increase your health, or (anachronistically as the art form did not exist in the 13th century) compose a haiku to earn a new piece of cosmetic gear. You'll also follow a number of character-based side stories, one-off side quests, and mythic tales which unlock powerful abilities and armor, all of which are extremely engaging and memorable. I would liken Ghost of Tsushima to last year's Tears of the Kingdom in terms of just how good it feels to explore and discover the island of Tsushima's beautiful environments, and uncover all of its secrets.
As a lover of the genre, I could barely put Ghost of Tsushima down in my initial playthrough of over 70 hours. It more than earns its spot on the list, but there's just one game I think left even more of a mark on me this year.
First Place: Persona 3 Reload (P-Studio)

I am a recent convert to the Persona series, having first played Persona 5 Royal in 2022 and playing Persona 4 Golden when it released on Xbox in 2023. However, I have fallen deeply in love with the series, and when Persona 3 Reload was announced I made the decision that I had to play it on release day. I called out of work and preordered the game - something I never do - and through a combination of being trapped in my home by a massive storm and losing my job the next week, I ended up plowing through Persona 3 Reload in about a week. I simply couldn't put the game down.
I had very little knowledge of the story or characters of Persona 3, having never played my copy of Persona 3 Portable since this game was announced so soon after that released, and so experiencing this narrative for the first time was an experience I'll never forget. Persona 3 is a game about death which is simultaneously extremely life-affirming, celebrating the relationships, connections, and simple joys that make life worth living, while embracing the fact that everyone must someday die and using that fact as motivation to live every day to the fullest. It is a moving, emotional story anchored by rich, engaging characters. I cried several times throughout.
The gameplay of Persona 3 Reload, a refinement on the turn-based systems of previous entries, is polished to a shine, and I found myself blowing through whole blocks of Tartarus, the game's only dungeon, in a single in-game night due to how engaging and addictive the combat felt. It felt extremely rewarding to find effective combos and a synergistic team that could raise each character's Theurgy gauge as quickly as possible, and the structure of Tartarus hooked me in surprisingly effectively, given that I wasn't a big fan of Persona 4's TV Wortld dungeons, or Persona 5's Mementos, dungeons with a similar structure to Tartarus. It helps that there's a surprising amount to do in Tartarus, from rescuing lost civilians to fulfilling requests for the Velvet Room attendant Elizabeth to exploring the various Monad Doors and plundering their rare items.
Persona 3 Reload is a very special game, one that I think will stick with me for a very long time. I can easily see why fans had been clamoring for a remake for so long, and I am extremely grateful that we finally got this game as a result. It is a genuine masterpiece, and easily takes the title of my game of the year.

do you ever see urself un-shipping adopted family members?
no hate btw,
nope probably not :] dicktim has dug itself a place in my heart and it is pretty solidly never leaving <3
usually when i write them they're not particularly brotherly tbqh, but i've been working on a dicktim/timives fic lately where ives is. Freaked Out TM by tim & dick LOL its not done yet but here is a section from it (under the cut)
(for context i fucked up the timeline so basically tim is living in gotham, the uncle eddie stuff is happening, jack just died, tim is going to school with ives, and dick has been in between gotham and bludhaven lately. do not think too hard about how little sense that makes)
Dick Grayson is weird, and definitely not Tim's brother. It's been about a month since Tim first left school with Dick instead of taking the bus, and Dick's been coming to pick him up once every week or two since. Tim's been kind of cagey about stuff like how they met and how they got to know each other. Ives knows that Bruce Wayne was looking out for Tim while Jack was in his coma, but he had thought that Dick had been out of town for most of that.
Ives honestly doesn't know a whole lot about Dick, other than what every Gothamite knows, an orphan adopted by philanthropist Bruce Wayne, much like his guardian, he's known to be a bit of an air-head, but left Gotham to pursue policing in Bludhaven. Other than that Ives doesn't know much.
This is the first time that Ives is actually meeting the man. He and Tim had been hanging out at his apartment (which Ives still thought was super weird, who lets their sixteen year old newly-orphaned nephew live by himself? Especially in Gotham), playing Halo and talking shit.
Ives is just about to take the win when the front door goes flying open and Dick comes crashing in, calling out "Timmm, I don’t want to stay at the manor. Can I crash here?" He freezes in the hall between the entryway and the living area, presumably because he spots Ives. Ives is pretty sure he'd been about to crash forward on the couch they're sitting on before he turned the corner and realized Tim wasn't home alone.
He straightens up and smiles at Ives, says "Hey man, you're... Ives, right? Sorry, I didn't realize Tim had a friend over. I'm Tim's brother, Dick." He sticks out a hand for Ives to shake, and Ives just accepts that he'll have to take the loss this round, so he puts down his controller and shakes Dick's outstretched hand. He has a firm grip, firmer than could probably be considered casual, and his palm is covered in calluses.
Tim scoots over so he's sitting at the end of the couch instead of the middle, and waves at Dick, greeting him with "Hey man, you want to play with us?" He turns to Ives, tilts his head as if to say 'that okay?', and what's Ives going to say, 'no'? So Dick flops down on the couch, with his back to the arm rest and his legs thrown over Tim's thighs, and grabs the third controller.
They switch to Call of Duty and Dick kind of sucks at it, and after a few rounds he tosses the controller onto the coffee table and announces "I can't get used to the buttons, you'll never make me an XBox fan Tim."
Tim turns to look at him, frowns, and says "You've gotta admit that the XBox has a cooler design, like what's the PlayStation but a big hunk of plastic? The XBox has style Dick. Style!"
"Who cares about style when the PlayStation has way more exclusives man? The XBox has Halo and..." Dick mimes checking a notebook, "And yep, says here, Halo."
"And Halo is a masterpiece."
Dick pivots, shoves Tim's shoulder, tells him "Stop making that face at me, I don't care how cute you are, I'm not buying an XBox for my apartment."
And that's... That's weird right? There's something distinctly off about the way Dick said that, about the way he called Tim cute, not like an older brother teasing his younger brother, but like someone who- Ives cuts off the thought by physically shaking his head. He's not going to go speculating on his best friend's family like a jerk, especially when Tim has already lost so much.
He tries to ignore it while they keep playing, but Dick keeps poking and prodding at Tim, now that he isn't playing he's all over him, until eventually he just straight up lays his head in Tim's lap and announces that he's taking a nap.
Ives looks at Tim for any indication that he thinks this is weird, but finds none. When Tim isn't giving the TV his laser-eyed focus, he's insulting Ives' skills or brushing a hand through Dick's hair.
Ives is relieved when his dad calls Tim's apartment and tells him it's time to head home for dinner, because with Dick in the room, even asleep, he just couldn't relax like he normally can with Tim. There's something about the man that put him off.
He tries to ignore it, he's clearly important to Tim, and that's what matters, that Tim is surrounded with loved ones and friends instead of being forced to face the enormity of what he's lost alone.

Gamer/Streamer!Inumaki Headcannons ?!
Gamer/Streamer!Inumaki loves video games no matter the genre. However, he tends to prefer games that have a pvp aspect or are competitive due to the skill he holds towards these games. For example, Fortnite, Valorant, Mario Kart, etc.
Gamer/Streamer!Inumaki always has Minecraft running in the background when gaming, so he can quickly switch to it if needed.
Gamer/Streamer!Inumaki likes to mine the most in Minecraft. When he's not doing that, he's either exploring or killing off mobs. ( Building is NOT his specialty )
Gamer/Streamer!Inumaki wears a soft pink headset that has interchangeable cat ears. ( It was a Christmas gift from Panda. )
Gamer/Streamer!Inumaki has a headset that is designed to his likes and his gaming tendencies that also matches the color scheme of his setup, but still wears the ones Panda got him out of appreciation.
Gamer/Streamer!Inumaki prefers gaming on his PC or his Xbox due to its easy controls, better privacy settings, and raw computing power. ( He is an avid Playstation hater. )
Gamer/Streamer!Inumaki has both a regular Nintendo Switch and a smaller Nintendo Switch Lite he likes to bring on his person, whether in public or at school.
Gamer/Streamer!Inumaki used to be a chronic DS & 3DS user as a kid, but now he keeps it preserved on display in his bedroom.
Gamer/Streamer!Inumaki was always a big fan of the Pokémon franchise, and some of his favorites are Togepede and the Aloan Vulpix.
Gamer/Streamer!Inumaki's favorite 'old' Pokémon game is Pokémon White.
Gamer/Streamer!Inumaki thinks fire starter type Pokémon are overrated and always chooses the water types.
Gamer/Streamer!Inumaki has a microphone for voice chat but only uses it when he is playing with his friends; aka people who understand his rice ball language.
Gamer/Streamer!Inumaki wears your classic white boy t-shirts while playing. ( Eat sleep game repeat, I paused my game to be here, etc ) In addition, he has a collection of these but refuses to wear them outside his dorm or house
Gamer/Streamer!Inumaki used to rage and go absolutely feral over Among Us in 2020
Gamer/Streamer!Inumaki has accidentally cursed someone out of rage, forcing them to log off and delete their account.
Gamer/Streamer!Inumaki bought a fancy gaming chair that can recline and have adjustable height ( as well as a secret massage mode ) that he can play/adjust by using a remote. ( Panda offered to buy him a toilet bowl attachment )
Gamer/Streamer!Inumaki often drags his fellow second years out to arcades in competition to see who can win by getting the most tickets by the end of the night. ( He always wins, but Yuta comes close due to Rika's help ( she's cheating ))
Gamer/Streamer!Inumaki has a YouTube channel for gaming that he will occasionally post a vlog on
Gamer/Streamer!Inumaki first started posting videos in his rice ball language but realized after a while that the reason he wasn't getting likes was because people couldn't understand him. Shortly after, he stopped talking and just started adding subtiltes/captions.
Gamer/Streamer!Inumaki has built his own PC with the help of Yuta. ( All he did was be emotional support as Toge rambled on about it and went with him to shops to buy the necessary parts )
Gamer/Streamer!Inumaki is also really good at board games, but for some reason SUCKS at any type of Monopoly besides the cheaters version. ( and chess, he is horrid at chess )

since everyone in this fandom and their mum seem to be giving their piece about the ‘update’ coming to Hogwarts Legacy on the 6th, i figured id give my piece even if no one has asked
ive been seeing a lot of posts and replies about how “we should just take what we get and be grateful” and “the devs are working hard, do you know how hard game development is?”
im very aware of how difficult game development can be and how mentally taxing it is. i dont doubt that they’ve been through the mill.
the update is trash. its that simple. we’re allowed to feel upset about it, and for people saying that its not fair to be upset — it is fair. we shouldnt have to expect the bare minimum from a game that sold 22 million copies and reached nearly 2 billion dollars in revenue, a game that had 14 nominations for awards and 3 wins.
we were told we were getting a summer update alongside the Haunted Hogsmeade quest — the quest they promised to release to PC and Xbox in march when the game celebrated one year of release. they said, and i quote;
“As we near the one-year anniversary of Hogwarts Legacy, we wanted to let our community know that the Hogwarts Legacy PlayStation-exclusive content will be available on other platforms later this summer, along with additional updates and features for the game. Stay tuned in the coming months for more details on what’s coming to Hogwarts Legacy this year.” copy and pasted straight from Hogwarts Legacy’s official twitter page. along with additional updates and features to the game.
yes — i know, thats a very vague statement. it could have been taken in any way, but typically when additional updates and features — plural — is put into a sentence, you assume that there will be more than one new feature. it wasnt wrong for the community to assume that there was more than a few new additions coming to the game.
okay, we got photo mode — thats great for console players, but it isnt new for us PC players. im happy for my console buddies that finally get to bring their mc to life in the way ive been able to. im looking forward to seeing the uptick in photos upon the updates release. PC and Xbox got the new haunted hogsmeade quest, and thats great, considering the release of it was delayed by 3 months, but atleast we’re getting it. but basically. PS5 was fucked in the process, because everything minus photo mode is stuff they already had, and honestly, thats not fair. and double honest — thats not an update. thats the release of exclusive content plus a new addition.
for several months a summer update was hyped up, and the result was…. ps5 getting fucked, a photo mode that im going to bet my ass on will be buggy as all hell, and some cosmetics. so no — i wont be grateful. especially when we keep getting promised things and then getting fucked by a hot iron in the process. because i havent forgotten the documentary that was supposed to come out, and i still remember during September when they hyped up a digital surprise for Back to Hogwarts day and it ended up being 30 percent off on a game most of us already had, only for the game to go on sale for half off the following Nov/Dec for the holiday sales.
since the release of the game, modders have been basically picking up the slack by working their asses off to create bug fixes, better cosmetic options, enhanced schedules, companions, and so much more to keep the community somewhat entertained. this as well as the file miners that are constantly digging things up that we were robbed of, like the relationship list for companions, gaunt manor, other house specific quests, more quests concerning Isadora, on and on. on top of this, ive seen first hand how much of the outer parts of the map was developed only to be cut out. i spent a solid hour and a half today using free cam to fly around the outskirts of the map — buildings, caves, entire areas laid out for towns or poacher camps, all thrown out on top of all of the discarded quests and content.
and while im at it — ill be one of the few to say it, but Hogwarts Legacies storyline was not well thought out, or at the very least it wasnt very well portrayed. there were hundreds of questions we were left with upon beating the game. where did Anne go? what happened to the keepers after the final battle? why wasnt Isadora in her portrait? what were the keepers hiding? did inhaling the magic actually make a difference or was it just for shock value? how much of Isadora’s story did we miss? how was the undercroft tied in with Isadora when it was apparently a Gaunt secret? what even really was the undercroft?
yes, i know — “well arent they making a second one?” and yeah, im pretty sure they are, and maybe thats why we’ve gotten nothing more than a pile of bricks in the last year and a half. but, they should probably finish the first game before starting on a second.
this doesnt mean i dont love Hogwarts Legacy. i love the people ive met, the stories ive read, and i love capturing the screenshots i take from that game. the entire situation is just frustrating to no end.

Switch 2 Price: Objectively
Before I get started let me just say that I absolutely agree that $450 is a lot of money, not denying that one bit. Please do not be mean in the comments, I am mildly autistic and was abused as a child so I cry stupidly easy.
It goes without saying that some of this price has also been adjusted due to the new 24% tariffs on Japanese goods. (This has not been confirmed by Nintendo but it follows the market trend of companies passing those costs directly to consumers).
With that out of the way, lets look at the hardware specifications of the Switch 2 that have been confirmed by Nintendo and nvidia.
4k 120 FPS when docked
7.9" 1080p HDR LCD screen built in
DLSS, ray tracing, and g-sync support
256GB SSD storage
These specifications put the Switch 2 firmly above the capability of a PS4 in the form factor of what is essentially a tablet. The Switch 1 was about as capable as the PS3, which is also somewhat impressive for the formfactor. While we likely won't have actual benchmark tests until review units go out near launch, we can still see that the hardware is quite good based on the info we have. Now let's take a look devices with similar capability of Switch 2 that are currently available on the market.
PS5
The PS5 is a more powerful system than Switch 2 without a doubt with Sony originally toting 8k resolution support. However it is also a much larger device and is notoriously sold at a loss as has been the trend with all console manufacturers since the 1970s. The PS5 slim comes in at the same $450 as Switch 2 due to its lack of Bluray drive. It also cannot be played anywear other than your home unless you invest in the $200 Playstation Portal streaming handheld.
Xbox Series X/S
While the Xbox Series S comes in at $150 cheaper than the Switch 2, it has also been notoriously hard for developers to get their games running in 4k on the device and is widely considered a non option for others, with Microsoft having to wave certification requirements for certain games such as Baldur's Gate 3 in order for Larion Studios to even consider porting it to the Xbox.
These are also not a portable system and are likely to be discontinued soon due to Microsoft shifting focus away from console exclusivity and on to their GamePass streaming service.
Laptops
The lowest price I could find on a laptop that features similar performance to Switch 2 will cost you around $650. And while laptop PCs can do much more overall due to the nature of the Windows desktop environment, I'm looking at this from a purely gaming performance focus. These lower end devices often suffer from performance dips due to lack of proper cooling and the overhead of the OS as well.
Handhelds/Steamdeck likes
The Steam Deck is a pretty incredible value starting $400 with access to a vast amount of the Steam Library. However it struggles with running complex games in 4k and its ray tracing support is quite lacking as well, but to be fair the device was not really designed to do that. It also only has a 720p 60hz display and is quite a bit bulkier than the Switch. Steam Deck competitors such as the ROG Ally and Legion Go are a bit more capable, but have notoriously poor battery life and are much more expensive in the $700-800 range.
Switch 1
The Switch 2 is also bound to compete with the Switch 1 for sales due to pricing and availability in the first couple of years of its lifespan. While the system is 8 years old, it still has quite a vast amount of support from developers and publishers due to it having a great lifetime sales figure. It has unfortunately been notoriously under-powered since its initial launch in 2018 with developers often having to greatly pare down their games in order to get them running on the system and often releasing 1-2 years after they have already launched on other platforms. The system also hasn't dropped its price from $300 outside of rare holiday sales.
The extra power of the Switch 2 should allow for more games to run on the system at a much less compromised experience compared to PS5/PC ports.
TLDR; Yes $450 is expensive, but the cost of the hardware is a fair market price.
$80 for the games is batshit insane tho.

🍪 I'm a neurodivergent, pathetic little freak of nature, autism/adhd as well as npd 🍪 please be 16+ if you're gonna follow me, i don't post nsfw on my blog but i do follow an account that hornyposts quite often, i will be changing my age gate to 18+ when i turn 21 so,,,also keep that in mind :3
🍪 My interests include, beastars, sega games.. Nintendo games, the furry fandom, metal music, KMFDM, Xbox, PlayStation, GRAND THEFT AUTO, mlp, Nathaniel bandy, beatles, Mario, THOMAS THE TANK ENGINE, sports, baseball, football, super monkey ball.. too many to list here, once you know me,,, you'll understand everything, 🍪 i don't vent on this blog, as that has actually got me into trouble,,, (only a few people know the full story), so I am not repeating that mistake again,,,
💥DNI💥
🍪 general dni material applies, i don't tolerate racism/homophobia/transphobia/zionism/ableism and all the isms that make people feel like shit for their identities .
🍪 AI """Artists""",,, Any AI """art""" I see on Tumblr, no matter how rare it is to come by, the blog the """art""" is uploaded to WILL be blocked without warning.
🍪 If I blocked you without notice, it means you are on my blacklist for either pissing me or my partner off, or if you are problematic. I do not tolerate people who are insanely problematic and harmful to others. If you genuinely piss me off, or are unironically a shithead, fuck off.
🍪 Anyone who hornyposts about Beastars without understanding anything about the source material (LOOKING AT YOU BEASTARS TWT), one of my partners is committed to one of the characters in the franchise, and if I see anything disregarding the unique aspects of the characters to go "OMG SEXYYYY", you will be blocked without notice. Not only that, the experience of Beastarstwt has made me grown dislike towards the fandom and has alienated me from interacting with that side of said fandom. I know Beastars Tumblr isn't like this, but just for mine and yours' safety, I am still listing this as a DNI.
🍪 MINORS WHO POST SEXUALLY-CONCERNING CONTENT REGARDLESS IF IT'S A FETISH OR NOT,,, the lower the age, the worse it gets for me,,, if you are 16/17 and are completely sfw,,, it's ok, but if you are less than 16 and/or post NSFW content as a minor, get out. I went down a bad rabbit hole which led me to creating this DNI. ANY AGE LESS THAN 16 I NOTICE WILL BE BLOCKED WITHOUT WARNING.
⚠MY LITTLE SHITLIT, MELVIN⚠
All arts by @melomelomuskmelon💜💜💜
⚠ As you should tell,, Melvin is my fursona/OC/Beastars OC/Whatever,,, made out of source separation to reconcile from drama fallout,, ⚠ FANARTS ARE APPRECIATED, however ANY NSFW of him is prohibited unless approved! Melvin really means a lot to me as a primary OC so any disregard/disrespect of him as a source-separation character I witness will be blocked without notice.
I mostly am not gonna be posting much here, in fear of meltdown drama once again, so reblogs and comments are gonna be quite common. With that being said,,,

I don't talk about work very often on here but the last project I did art and art direction for is coming out August 13th, this Tuesday - which is coincidentally also my birthday! So if you'd like to support me and my work (and our small indie team), consider checking it out! It's coming to Steam, Xbox, Playstation and Switch.
If you like cute, chill hidden object games with adorable characters and little comedy moments... or like making your own hidden object maps for community members to play, maybe you'll like Hidden Through Time 2: Discovery!
If you're curious, you can try out the free demo on steam or play its predecessors, Hidden Through Time 2: Myths & Magic or the classic Hidden Through Time series.

Playable on PC, Mac, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch
Played on PlayStation and Switch
Game Time: somewhere between an 1hr 30min and 8hrs
Alright, I guess I lied. To make sure I’m actually able to semi-regularly post, in-between reviews about longer games I’ll be doing ones about smaller games in-between. First up in that regard is a game about probable the most reasonable hear-me-outs a monsterfucker could ever say. Unless one of them has a knot or something…?
I felt gross typing that out… fuck it, I’ll keep it in.
Anyway, it’s the funniest gateway drug to becoming either a monsterfucker or getting into dating sims; Monster Prom XXL
So what is Monster Prom?
It’s a 1-4 player co-op Dating Sim where you try to boost your stats to meet the demanding expectations of some “high schoolers” before they accept your promposal. They’re all over the age of 18 so it’s less creepy than it sounds.
To start with, in the XXL edition you can choose to play the “First Term” (base game) or “Second Term” (DLC). I’ll talk about differences between the two terms as the come up.
Once you choose the term, you then get to decide whether you want to play in 30min or 1hr chunks. I wouldn’t worry about the playtime though, the amount of choices and endings makes replay a blast. After game length has been decided you’ll get to pick 1 of 4 characters to play as: Oz (Yellow), Amira (Red), Brian (Green), Vicky (Blue).

This doesn’t really affect the overall game, so feel free to pick whoever you want… I’m partial to Brian.
Now the game can start, and it introduces you to the people you’re going to be able to pursue.

The rich kid and literal mermaid princess, Miranda Vanderbilt; demon bad boy, Damien LaVey; Jock and goodest werewolf, Scott Howl; hipster vampire and possibly future/former literature major, Liam de Lioncourt; party girl and ghost-with-the-most, Polly Geist; and finally HBIC and Queen gorgon of my heart, Vera Oberlin. The second term does add two new characters to pursue: Calculester Hewlett-Packard for the robo-fantasies and Zoe; an eldritch horror who likes anime and fanfiction. Each one of them prepared to make you your worst self
From here it slides you into a multi-choice test from a magazine to help determine your stat spread and the first bit of interest one of the characters may have in you. Stats are the second most important thing about this game, they’ll be the deciding factor on if you get your date to prom or not.

From there, you’re dropped off at Spooky Academy and allowed full freedom to build up your stats as you see fit for the next 3-6 weeks (30min to an hour depending on short or long game).
You get to go to two rooms and lunch each week. The rooms you can choose to go to increases one of your base stats by two: the class makes you smarter, library makes you richer, outdoors makes you funner, bathrooms make you bolder, gym makes you a charmer, and the auditorium makes you creative-ier (There was a pattern and I wanted to complete it). Once you get the stat increase, you’ll enter a small event with the character you’re interested in that (if done correctly) will deepen their interest in you, provide a bonus stat increase, or set you on the path of a secret ending.

After every morning class, it’s time to decide where you want to sit at lunch. Are fun enough to sit with Polly? Bold enough for Damien? Are you good enough for Vera (my queen)? Or you know just sit where you want…
At lunch you’ll get an event to increase a specific character’s interest, this is usually between two different characters and deciding if you want to agree with one or the other.

Once time runs out, you get to make the final choice: who do you want to ask to prom? Have you boosted the needed stats? Or has your heart drifted to another? Or did you decide to go alone? Hope Monster Prom succeeded in its promise to make you your worst.
The Good
Ability to replay is massive, with a large number of variations to make sure your 12th play through is fairly different from your first.
Vera Oberlin
Characters are each unique and bring something for everyone
Vera O.
While I would recommend keeping a guide open at least to know what stats you need, Blind playthroughs are probably the best feeling I had after stumbling into the family ending
Vera Oberlin (I swear it’s not a “step on me” thing, it’s more of a “he asked for no pickles” thing. I hope…)

The Weird
Trying to figure out which stats are needed for which choices during events may be a little confusing during the first few runs through the game.
The humor might not be for everyone: leaning more towards jokes about beheading enemies, party drugs, monsters indulging in niche kinks, and armed robbery by gnomes then anything else.
The Bad
Go on, get outta here! I mean who hasn’t wanted to fuck a monster before!?

Score: Be your worst self and get that guy, gal, or pal for your date to prom. Or just take yourself, that’s always great choice as well.
Next Up: I don’t know for sure but I’m still always off from completing Expedition 33, probably Monster Camp?

Microsoft XBOX - Sonic Heroes
Title: Sonic Heroes / ソニック ヒーローズ
Developer/Publisher: Sega (Sonic Team)
Release date: 30 December 2003
Catalogue No.: Z76-00001
Genre: 3D Action
I've read many reviews on other websites, and from personal experience with them as well, I can tell you it is far better than many give it credit. Sure, it has its problems, but there are plenty of positives that come out of the experience as well.
For one, it introduces a new play mechanic to the series, using three characters instead of the usual one to solve the awaiting puzzles and whizz through the arenas. Each of the four different teams (Team Sonic, Dark, Rose and Chaotix) is the same design-wise (one is used for speed, the second power, and the third flight), and swapping between the three during play adds an element of strategy to the game, something that is rarely used in such a game.
Graphically, this has to be the best-looking early 2000s Sonic title so far. As far as console versions go the Xbox has the upper hand due to its hi-res capabilities. The earlier levels may not show off that much, but once you get into the latter half of the game, the levels start to improve in detail and hark back to the early Sonic games design-wise (especially Casino Park, which recreates the pinball-like Vegas levels from the original Sonic games of old). In fact, the game has an amazing sense of speed, and those who hang around long enough will enjoy the hectic rush.
There are areas of the game that just seem rushed, including the multiplayer mode that is simply tacked onto the DVD. The music score is the old-school Crush 40 rock pieces that seem to be a staple of this franchise, but to me, it is getting really old, nothing like the more amusing and entertaining scores of Mario Sunshine or Jak II, or even something like Cel Damage or Grabbed by the Ghoulies, come to mention it. The control scheme takes a little getting used to at first, swapping between the three characters at will. But stick with it, as once you get the hang of things you'll be flying along. I heard the most popular PlayStation 2 version has the worst controls of the bunch though.
Lastability is also a factor. The 14 levels on offer are fairly long, but at the speed at which you are going, they fly by quickly and without much fuss. Still, there are other teams to play as, so there's the added incentive to try again a few times.
So, despite what some people might say, this is not the worst Sonic game ever made and is far and away the best 3D rendition of the franchise from the three made in the early 2000s so far. It is certainly the only title of the time to really capture the speed and excitement that the 2D Sonic's had, that's for sure. It has its problems, and there are the usual camera and bug errors, but overall Sonic Heroes is still well worth a play, and it is a step in the right direction for the future of Sonic in 3D.
