Ak!Jays spirals or episodes come from two things, his self-esteem or self-worth, along with his lack of self-identity

Ak!Jason (Post/During AK) has a very hard time with his self worth, it solely stems from wanting to prove people wrong about himself. he obviously doesn’t like being perceived in the wrong way.

Ak!Jason (Post/During AK) says he’s move pasts his traumas, yet his identity and reasoning is constantly rooted in them, leading to so much contradictory dialogue and mental FUCKING GYMNASTICS.

i think he often ponders if he was better off being killed by the joker, or if he can really be redeemed from his actions as Arkham Knight by helping Gotham as Red Hood.

he has a lot of crisises about his identity and purpose more often then not b/c he cant find a reason for either besides his own anger and approval addiction.

the first introduction of his internalized self-deprecation is with his father, other then the Arkham Knight Annual

though he rejects this “truth” in the Annual, showing his determination to prove himself more then what Bruce and the Joker idealizes him to be, I think its a good mirror into Jasons mind and what really makes him start cracking

Ex. , his biological father canonically telling him he was a loser growing up, and his mom seems to personify/objectify Jason as gothams gravitation keeping them in gotham.

another example is the way he is talked to throughout scarecrows psychotropic

throughout the comic and game he goes between or showing a desire for a connection with bruce and praising joker for his upbringing, then chastising them.

its very clear jason has an identity issue, with him isolating himself because he believes he is too broken (game dialogues), his need for validation stemming from his childhood, his fear of abandonment, and overall internal dilemmas of wanting a connection or not. obviously hes not good with working out his emotions on his own without doing considerably impulsive things.

This only comes from his desire to want his own separate identity, by ending these cycles of Bruces actions and Gothams nightmares he also believes that he will be truly free.

his only true identification with himself is anger and resentment, being built, gravitated, and broken by anger. feeling like hes always losing or lost, and his desire to just win something and therefore be wanted

okay to stop a fuckton of more rambling jason todd, abandoment issues, jealousy/obsession issues, need for connection, validation, relationships, self-destructive isolation, brainwashing induced perception issue, intense mood swings which also cause perception issues.

i guess it could try to be argued that Jason doesn’t actually want validation bc he got over the psychotropic; but i disagree with the way he constantly talks about being underestimated and feeling like he has to prove himself throughout the comics and his dialogue with Barbra in game.

i also want to make it clear that throughout the ak!comics he does help civilians so it does really have morality for other people. He does separate Gothams Gravity from the people, and claims the worst of the worst (villains and such) are the people who succumb to gotham.

so its pretty god damn hard to comfort this dude, he’s a chronic over analyzer, could probably turn anything and everything you say against himself or you, and yet would crave validation and intimacy.

which makes him a bit of a trip,, but i love him. so.

a lot of the time you’ll have to go with his flow

if its really bad he’ll isolate himself, he feels like he’s letting you down by breaking in front of you. He can’t let you see him as weak because to him its a liability for your relationship.

as well as the fact that his perception becomes very extreme/warped when very emotional. he’ll can range from believe your lying to him, to he’s not worth that kind of comfort and he’s wasting your time.

it takes a lot of patience for him to accept that he isnt an inconvenience to you and you do actually care

overtime, a lot of fucking time, he’ll slowly come around to this. instead of leaving for days or weeks at a time, Jason will leave for at most a day or two, but around midnight he’ll be home craving your presence.

he cant be alone again, he really doesn’t wanna be alone again, he needs to make sure you don’t wanna leave him.

probably just goes to sleep facing you, or holding your hand if hes feeling especially mushy.

he’d be so quiet, having the internal battle of leaving you or letting him feed into his desire of just having you around him.

Jason needs that in a partner! Someone who is warm to him! someone who makes him feel wanted or needed! Someone who makes him feel safe!

I think if you catch him just as he gets triggered/begins to spiral, you can help him not crash out.

Being over the top mushy with him isnt gonna work, he needs someone to ground him and be 100% with him.

sometimes he doesn’t need to talk or just doesn’t want to, again presence.

but acknowledging him every now and then to make sure he knows your not brushing him off or forgot about him.

when you’re in a closer relationship he definitely just wants you in his arms, needs to hold you close.

Home-cooked meals with him, justing going about your life with him, making him feel wanted, making him feel acknowledged.

i think he’d open up every now and then, but i think he’s also still a self-assured person who needs guidance at the right time. to just be sure he’s on the right path and youre with him.

one of his triggers is his own jealousy, accidentally making him feel like he’s replaceable or him believing you’ll get tired of him.

he needs so much reassurance.

just be there with him, guide him, love him, make sure he’s on the right path.

he needs a lot of things, sometimes its naps, sometimes its food, sometimes just to be in your arms, sometimes to help you cook, sometimes watching you work, sometimes he’ll have you lay your back on his chest and read with him, sometimes he just wants to fall asleep with you, sometimes he wants to cry in your arms, JUSDHRIDJDJDISO JASON TODD COME HOME WE MISS YOUUUU

Sure! Using the wiki for the Arkham games to write his character, although this most likely works for other variations of Two-Face. I just talk general behavior, there isn't really any backstory to this one. No pairing specified so I tried to keep it general.

Yandere! Arkhamverse! Two-Face Concept

Pairing: Romantic/Platonic

Possible Trigger Warnings: Gender-Neutral Darling, Obsession, Murder mention, Delusional behavior, Manipulation, Kidnapping mention, Possessive behavior, Split personality, Brief stalking mention, Violence, Forced companionship/relationship.

Looking into him more, Harvey/Two-Face has a really sad backstory.

Plus due to his personalities I'd say he'd be unpredictable in behavior.

On one hand, he'd want to be caring and considerate of his darling.

One the other, he could easily snap and show sudden aggression, often killing others with the flip of a coin.

Two-Face would also be the type of yandere to believe he's fated to meet and have you.

A big part of his character is fate, after all.

Since he has such beliefs you could also assume he'd be a delusional yandere too.

Evident in Arkham Knight through tapes, it's also shown he has self-loathing aspects.

For the most part I imagine Two-Face would follow his coin for decisions on how to approach his obsession.

In terms of how he could meet you, it could be before or after his accident.

His insanity feeds into his obsession and you happen to be the person he pursues for whatever reason he has in mind.

I can also see Two-Face often arguing with himself on how to deal with his obsession.

As said before, part of him wants you to love him like a normal person, while the other just wants to lock you away where only he can see you.

As his darling, you would not be able to predict his next move.

He claims all of his actions are fate.

The coin decides just what you'll two do together and how it will go.

I imagine at times Two-Face is really sweet with you.

Sometimes the old Harvey shines through with slight pity/guilt for what he's doing.

He just hopes you'll forgive him at some point, but you both must play by fate's rules.

He'd buy you all sorts of gifts when he's able to/if he could.

He really does adore you but then there's his other side.

Two-Face, the more sadistic personality, brings violence to the table.

He'd make those around you bleed for looking at you wrong.

Murder is a common thing for Two-Face.

Sometimes when you rob Gotham's banks, people have got to die.

Murdering others in order to keep you, the one person that makes him happy after the incident, is something he'd happily follow through with.

Affection with Harvey is sweet and soft, affection with Two-Face is rough and harsh.

Any time with him is like playing a game of chance.

It's sad, really, to see a man who was given so much respect fall from grace.

Harvey knows that he could've been a great friend or even lover for if he wasn't like... this.

He blames himself for making you scared.

Yet at the same time he wants to force you to just comply.

He'll take good care of you, he'll isolate you, and you can be happy.

This city corrupts people.

He used to want/wish for great things.

That's all gone now.

Now he's a man following fate, arguing with himself over what he'll do with you.

He flips a coin for everything.

Stalking, kidnapping, killing others around you, even punishments.

He flips the coin and lets fate decide.

Fate wants you two to be by each other.

Perhaps with another coin flip... he'll decide on if he wishes to be your friend or something more.

Nothing is up to you to decide.

He even tells you he isn't making the decision himself.

It's all in the coin, it's all on fate now.

You should be happy!

It's clear you're both meant to be....

Any sort of companionship with him has its up and downs.

Perhaps if you anger him enough he may hurt you, flipping a coin to decide if it's worth it.

Hell, with him, your entire life is decided with coin flips.

He relies on it to tell him what to do.

Heads, he keeps you in locked room.

Tails, he lets you go.

Heads, he stalks you tonight.

Tails, he leaves you alone.

Heads, he kills off that friend of yours around you all the time.

Tails, he solves the issue by having his goons take you away.

You never feel like you're winning with him.

Two-Face does what he wishes and calls it fate.

At least that's what you assume.

You wonder if one day he'll flip the coin to just end you.

But he'd never.

You are what makes him feel like Harvey.

A slight sense of normalcy, someone who gives him a sense tranquility.

He needs you, regardless of what you think.

No matter what you say you won't get your way.

Sometimes he even gives you the illusion of choice, flipping that dreaded coin to see if he'll listen to you.

Wish for more freedom or space? He'll flip a coin.

There's a good chance you won't win any argument with him.

However, sometimes he decides to be merciful and says fate's won in your favor.

But it's always small things.

A companionship/relationship with Two-Face is unpredictable, yet one factor is always the same.

You'll never win his coin flip games... which means you'll be his forever and always, because fate has decided so.

Thinking about the Jason’s darling being part of the Arkham Knight storyline and how it’s her disappearance that Batman investigates, which leads the player to find more clues on who the AK is.

When the player goes around Gotham and they can pick up chatter from various thugs, when you’re around the militia soldiers you might hear convos that have to do with Jason’s darling, like:

Soldier 1: you hear about that lady the knight brought into the compound a week ago?

Soldier 2: yah, but not too sure what she’s got to do with the mission. She looks like a regular old civilian to me.

Some tidbits of conversations overheard from militia soldiers can bring up what they’ve witnessed the Arkham Knight do around darling. Such as how a soldier tasked with guarding her tried to cop a feel once and the others don’t know where that guy’s been since. Or how practically darling’s whole bedroom was brought over to her cell in the compound. Or how the knight sure does go in her cell a lot but they don’t hear the sounds of an interrogation or anything.

Omg ye, the thug and militia dialogues are some of the best aspects of these games. I love the thots about working this concept into the actual game as a sidequest with stuff like this

Militia 1: Ok, I'm gonna say it. Has anyone else heard the Boss going at it with that girl he had us take? Militia 2: What, like arguing with her? Militia 1: ...Nope. Militia 2: Oh. OH. Wait, really!? So he kidnapped his girlfriend? Militia 3: Probably was his girl before he became the Knight. Maybe she's got something to do with why he hates the Bat so much. Militia 2: You think it's a love triangle thing? Militia 1: Nah. I'm assuming it's some kind of daddy issue. Think about it, he dresses like Batman because the Knight is his kid. It's how he knows so much about how he thinks. I always figured that's what this was about. Militia 2: It could be both. Maybe Batman slept with his son's girl. I'd try to kill my old man if he slept with my woman. Militia 3: Would you invade an entire city, invest millions of dollars, and work with a bunch of freaks to do it? Militia 2: ...It depends on if she said he was better than me.

But here's a random list of my rating of different Batman that nobody asked because I love giving my opinion

The Dark Knight Trilogy: Solid Batman, hate the Bruce Wayne. Brucie, the public persona, is supposed to be a bimbo that cares for the city, not a rude arrogant prick that sinks the Wayne name. It completely butchered his relationship with Harvey too for... *checks notes* Rachel? Nahhh 2/10, a male fantasy movie but it gets one point for showing his training years and another for some cool one-liners

The Batman (2022) – I love the movie and that's top Batman to me, especially the last scene. Batman is a symbol of hope, compassion. I had the same problem as the Nolan's one for the larger portion of the movie: instead of using the Wayne Inc. to do good, he doesn't care about his parent's heirloom and drowns into being Batman. HOWEVER, it's pretty clear how raw and wounded he still is, and after the whole Riddler deal, I can see him turning this around and doing good as Bruce Wayne too. My fav live action movie but it gets a 8.5/10 on characterization

The Long Halloween, Comic – classic Batman, I like his personality and how he lets Batman and Bruce work together to do better to the city. A inspiration for the 2022 movie too. 9/10

The Long Halloween, Tomorrowverse – butchered the storyline and I shit you not Bruce says "I never thought I would need to do detective work to be Batman". Made him all muscle and no brain. Cool art but it doesn't even get a point for it, couldn't bring myself to watch more than 20 minutes of the part two. I kinda liked how he acts with Selina though. Yet, keeps it at -10/0

The Arkham Games – I watched the Arkham Knight gameplay like it was a movie and then watched scenes from other games on yt. That's the ideal way Batman operates to me. Thing dreams are made of. Also balanced on his public facade. 9/10

Batman The Animated Series, Timmverse – can't ask for better. Always offering rehabilitation to villains? Showing empathy for freeze and ivy and Harley!? and his friendship with Harvey? 10/10

Justice League: Unlimited – The timmverse gets him right and I love to notice how he progressed as a character. Love how they write Bruce's friendship with Clark and true partnership with other Leaguers. Also love his relationship with Diana, wonderbat forever. 10/10

Batman, Tv animation (2004) – The story is tailored to be palatable to kids so they changed some elements. It's fun to watch tho, 7/10

Batman Vs. Superman – guilt-ridden, PTSD older Batman? Pretty solid on the premise and I could see any Batman acting that way with enough groundwork. I just don't like the whole marking criminal and sending them to prison to die. Bruce wouldn't, doesn't matter how grief stricken he is. 8.8/10

Gotham (Tv Series) – Eh. Young chaotic Bruce. The focus of the series is on the villains and I didn't even pay too much attention to him tbh. I love a disaster teenager Bruce tho, 7.6/10

Young Justice – Gets points for bonding with Dick earlier in the series and for later showing him operating with a larger Batfam. Also accurate on the way Batman operates. He would leave the League because he's not about being part of a society or the status that come with it. The League had a purpose, which was facilitating saving people. Than he couldn't save people with it? He left. 9/10

Superhero Girls – exploring him being Kardashian-level celebrity?? Hilarious. But I don't like the other implications the show makes about him as Batman. 3/10

The Killing Joke, animated movie – something about how he acts throws me off. Older Batman but done badly. I think they don't work enough to drive him to murder. Should have left him kill Joker when Jason died. 2/10

Ninja Batman – The writers had LSD to write it. Insane. Hilarious. Didn't like that he was "oooh I don't have tech what will I do? :(" Batman is a survivalist so be for real. 4/10

Year Zero (comic) – hate that buzz cut. He wouldn't. Otherwise solid. Also another inspo to 2022 movie. 6/10

Year One (comic) – classic backstory, can't ask for anything else on personality matter. The fact he hallucinated a bat while he was concussed and thus made himself Batman because he thought it was rad? Peak characterization. 10/10

Harleen (comic) – He's not the focus of the story but I do love when they show how much sheer power the Wayne name carries. He has a steady hand over Gotham, a background influence constant and unwavering. Also that dialogue on the end where he's blaming himself for everything that happened even though it's not his fault? Yeah, it tracks. 9/10

Turning Points (comic) – the way he acts... He's such a theater kid. Also accurate on how Robin happened and I love he doesn't try to fight Gordon but humbly accepts Jim is going to hunt him if something happens to Robin. 9/10

There's a black and white one shot comic that Dan Mora made that I can't rember the name but?? Bruce adopting Jason, Dick and Tim in one go?? Can't go wrong for me. I am also not immune to how Mr. Mora draws Bruce. 100/10

First of all, there's a canon name for Prime Earth Joker right now, and a canon origin. You guessed it, it's The Killing Joke one. This wasn't really surprising to me when it came out, the TKJ origin has been referenced as canon multiple times at this point; it's only the last name that remained a mystery. But then they revealed his name to be "Jack Oswald White":

I'm pretty sure we all agree that the only good part of that is "Jack". Don't know why the hell they went for "Oswald" (let Penguin have the monopoly on that goddammit!), but "White" is not that much of a surprise, it's just... a bit boring. Basically, Joker's had "White" attributed to him before in the Arkham games, he used it as an alias.

The fan-favorite (and my own, actually) name for Joker is actually "Jack Napier". It's got a long history... First used in Tim Burton's Batman (1989), it then got adopted by Batman: The Animated Series, The Batman (2004) and multiple other adaptations, like the Black Label Batman: White Knight comic-- which is just the most famous recently, but Joker's been named "Jack Napier" in so many other Elseworld and alternate universe DC comics. However, the name has popped up in comics closer to main continuity too. Joker himself used it as an alias in the New 52, in Red Hood and the Outsiders; but more importantly...

Arkham Asylum: Madness

Tough to say how canon this comic is, but it's heavily implied Joker's surname is "Napier". And since it's been canonized Joker's kid would've been a boy, "Milton" was probably his name (if you follow Falls the Shadow, my Joker-centric fic, you're probably familiar). But most recently, and having the most weight, they showed that the Joker equivalent of one of the Dark Multiverses was named "Jack Napier":

So... it's a bit of a mess. It's been made official that his name was "Jack Oswald White" (maybe they want to do something with the initials JOW??), but the name people have been using for him for years is "Jack Napier". More generally though, you'll find that even comics that never give him a last name use "Jack" (like Batman: Gotham Knights #54, or Batman: Three Jokers, or the name of Jokester, the good Joker of Earth-3).

...And alright, I can't help myself. I'll go ahead and rant about a pet theory of mine, since I think Zdarsky intentionally tried to fit this all into an explanation. He tried to do something about Joker being people with different names and even different genders (like Martha Wayne) across worlds. But everything from here on is a spoiler for the main Batman run, so I'll put it all under the cut.

In case you're not familiar with the plot of The Bat-Man of Gotham, basically Bruce got thrown into another Universe in which Batman didn't exist. Here he found a guy called Darwin Halliday or Red Mask, who never became Joker, but wanted to. He'd glimpsed into the Multiverse with a chemical, and as a result created a machine that allowed one to travel the numerous Universes. In their final confrontation, Bruce and Red Mask both get hurled across the Multiverse by the machine, and here's an interesting panel from a world (clearly Burton's Batman movie world) Bruce encounters:

Batman (2016) #135

They have Bruce see his name, and the name "Jack Napier" on panel. Meanwhile, the "sane" Joker Bruce is chasing is named "Darwin Halliday". Then there's freaking "Jack Oswald White" for Prime Earth, an existing alternate called "Jack Napier" in a Dark Multiverse, and don't even get me started on freaking "Alby", another potential Joker name from Detective Comics (2016) #1000.

Bruce however, in Zdarsky's story and not only, only has himself. All the Universes he hops through have "Bruce Wayne" as the connection, even when Bruce isn't Batman (like in Batman Beyond). Is Bruce the only one to be Batman? Of course not, different others have carried the mantle (like Dick Grayson, Jean-Paul Valley, Tim Drake, Damian Wayne, James Gordon etc.). But I'm not trying to refer to worlds in which Bruce Wayne was Batman and then something happened to him and he was succeeded/replaced; I'm trying to refer to worlds in which someone else became Batman from the start. Those are quite rare, but they almost always have a Wayne: Thomas Wayne, or Helena Wayne. Even Owlman, the "evil" counterpart, is Bruce's brother.

Of course, the connection linking the Bruce Waynes is meant to be there so that the "infection" of Zur-en-Arrh can take place across the Multiverse. But then how exactly is Red Mask finding each Universe to jump into, right? How is he connecting mentally to all the Jokers, if the Jokers are different people and not the same as for Bruce? Why is it that whenever a Wayne becomes a Batman, someone becomes a Joker? Well...

Batman (2016) #135

So. Red Mask was following Batman, the one who's existence directly lead to Jack going insane and becoming Joker. Wherever there was a Batman, Red Mask precipitated the creation of a Joker... who wasn't always the same person. Just the person who needed a "push" into becoming it, hence explaining why Joker is different individuals. "Joker" is pretty much the cosmic curse following Batman, his inevitable shadow. (Not only that, depending on the moment Red Mask arrived, he also brought back the existing Jokers from the dead or made them worse.)

Now. Do I like this explanation? Not really, I think it sucks to unravel Joker's character so much and take away all his mystery, all the cool alternate interpretations. Not only that, but this explanation essentially takes away agency from Joker's character and attributes it to freaking... Multiverse shenanigans. However, I did appreciate Zdarsky's effort to give the whole thing some meaning. You don't see that frequently in comics. And in a way, it's so insanely soulmates-as-a-curse for Batman and Joker. They're so tied together it's impossible to unravel them.

an’ oh, nope. i didn’t answer this one! arkhamverse’s content is smth that i see circulating around a lot, but i didn’t see much content for that version of scarebat. i guess, the constant choking, an’ ‘get on your knees now, crane’ wasn’t enough to awaken smth in anyone *besides me an’ 2-3 other fine wine enjoyers*. which is once again too bad, bc even design wise, they’re kinda a banger in their own right. whichever version we take, it’s just a good contrast between batman’s heavy armour an’ jon’s typical rags *with some cyber-punk touch later on*. like, while i’m a simple gal who tends to simp for ‘classic’ outlooks, i do appreciate what the game did. gotta love crane’s freddy krueger syringe glove, an’ how he got it embedded into bruce’s neck an’ chest, an’ then got stabbed with it himself lol. there is a lot of homoerotic stuff, which can be done with it! esp bc it’s such a close range weapon, an’ each version of akrham’s crane used it differently. in arkham asylum, he injected the poison into bruce’s arm. the desperate, angry action kinda reminded me of a pissy, bristling animal, that would bite your hand, when if you try to grab it. in the next game, jon was way more vicious, less of a thrashing opossum that you find in your garage an’ more of a snake, that you accidentally step on, while you climbing down your porch. the vast difference between his mental states then an’ later on is an interesting theme for speculations. esp bc bruce is also worse to wear in the next game. in fact, i’d say that arkham knight sorta depicts them at their subjective ‘worst’ almost. an’ it says smth, bc i don’t think that either of them are ever in good mental place. 

i kinda find it interesting how some people would assume, that if person acts cold an’ detached, it means that they’re ‘in control’, when sometimes, it’s the opposite. in bruce’s case for sure. but i’d like this for some versions of crane as well, bc it suits his psychotype as well. not to mention, that jon’s hygiene in arkham knight is at its lowest too, which says a few things about his mental state right off the bat. or how he didn’t seem to properly treat his own wounds, just instantly throwing himself into his biggest scheme. a man truly possessed by revenge. 

but welp, if we go into specifics of each separate version of arkhamverse, i guess, i will start with arkham asylum! my memories about those games are a bit rusty, but i’ll go with what i remember. providing more emphasis on arkham knight, since they do have more going on an’ you seem more interested in that specific version too! 

still, first things first, i love how jonathan was half-naked during the first game lol. it’s just so funny to me, bc he is usually covered from head to toe, but in there, he was shirtless, wearing pants that held for dear life on those skinny hips an’ i’ll bet dude had nothing underneath them either. he’s never was the most proper person, admittingly, but idk, running around the dirty asylum an’ hunting your enemy while showing off your nips an’ stomach is…smth else. esp for a prude like crane. but i guess, at that point of time, he seemed to be so deranged, that his usual body issues no longer worried him. besides, poison ivy walked around in her underwear an’ blouse that was held together by one durable button, why can’t he do the same? it’s not like batman would comment on it, even if he wanted to. but like, honestly, all the hints of possible spooky + sexy times were there, so it’s a shocker, that no one has done anything about it yet. i mean, you literally have jonathan, who was flashing the bat for 20 minutes straight, an’ it’s not smth that the majority of cranes would ever have the guts to do in any other set-up. btas an’ comicverse ones would downright combust, before they’d be walking around batman shirtless. but not that gremlin. he was all about it. even if i do think, that he wasn't fully aware about what it means, an’ that it’s kinda embarrassing to do smth like that, while you are trying to be intimidating. he’s not bane. it’s not like he has some crazy muscular mass to show off. but it is very stimulating to think about the ways it all can be used in. the cold bat’s armour to exposed skin of a spooky toothpick. batman grips scarecrow’s clothes, when they fight. in there, it’ll be almost all naked skin. that’s a sexy imagery to have! 

as for the substance of the arkham asylum on itself, i don’t think that scarecrow was in there a lot. but then again, maybe i just remember it this way. it is however curious how fast crane goes from campy looney to more serious, jarred person, we see in the next game. an’ his whole motivation shifts from ‘you’re just like us and have fears’ to ‘there is no saviour. no hope’. almost like he was very, very let down, when batman failed to save him that one time lol. but considering that arkhamverse kept jonathan’s comic origin, it’s safe to assume that yeah, he took that very-very personally. he isn’t the joker, who kinda never brings up how many times, batman casually let him ‘die’. the btas alone has like 3 occasions like that lmao. meanwhile, jon went into a scornful cold rage, after just one epic fail, which, at the end of the day, is very him lol. the drugged up bat didn’t save him, that’s it. no one’s supremacy, fuck gotham. an’ i’m only partly jeering here. 

which leads us straight to to arkham knight version, an’ to bruce instantly going up there an’ choking the living hell out of jon, the second he sees him. what a reunion! esp with that whole head hitting an’ throwing crane onto floor, like a ragdoll. batman just had to assert his dominance, even when jonathan barely opened his mouth. *bc yeah, you stay down, bottom*. i like how crane tried his hardest to be serious an’ imposing during that whole deal, but the bat just wasn't super amused. yet, like usual, he did give the scarecrow room to speak later on. allowing him to walk around him. an’ boy, gotta appreciate that ‘bad guy's sly hips play’ as scarecrow circled the bat. it was quite a vision. even with fucked up leg, he managed to pull that off. i wish there were more moments like this. they had a lot of potential for more brutal scarebat interactions, than some other versions of them. all the cues for it were there. batman was hallucinating a ghost of a dead clown, who wouldn’t shut up about whatever, an’ jonathan was all about his ‘end goal’, not caring what he had to do to get to it. what an explosive combo. i was low-key surprised, that bruce didn’t wipe the floor with crane just out of pure frustration, an’ then some. an’ considering how fucked up they both are in that version, it wouldn’t put it past the ghost!joker to suggest they’d do smth else with crane, if batman is unwilling to kill him. there is actually a lot of leeway, with bruce blaming some stuff on his personal brain damage, while joker just keeps on pouring gasoline into the fire. i even had this one idea about the joker playing a horrible matchmaker just to make everyone even more miserable, but mostly just bruce. all while not expecting crane to be able to return the sentiment in his own messed up manner. 

an’ speaking of sentiment, i do think that it can be here as well. it’ll be buried under layers an’ layers of pseudo-resentment, but that’s like typical scarebat. no one ever talk about their real emotions in that ship lol. well, not in a normal way. in arkham knight, i suppose the joker can be a narrator of bruce an’ crane’s relationships. not missing a beat to tell them *well, bruce* how much they suck. an’ he won’t even be wrong, batman abandoning some of his duties, bc well, this. an’ crane as per usual getting confused by feelings, that isn’t hatred or fear. they can enter those intense relationships with the worst kind of miscommunication. bc they awful at it, when they’re not super unstable *or at least one of them isn’t*, an’ now they can be godawful at it, bc batman is close to breaking point, an’ jonathan is at his bitterests an’ pettiest. crane also can assume, that he can ‘unmade’ the bat this way, all while messing up his own scheme in the process. with god’s help, they might even survive this. idk about gotham tho lol. the joker being a third wheel an’ technically a cuck in that situation just adds how messed up it all is. but maybe with jon’s ‘help’, they can deal with that problem too. i don’t think, crane would like to share in any way. i mean, he would have been pissed off, if he learned that batman had a mini-devil on his shoulder the whole time. in a way, it kinda defeats the purpose of it all. it would almost like taking all the credit from him, an’ he won’t stand for it. crane combating bruce’s personal ghosts for his own selfish, possessive needs is smth, i would have liked to see for them. jonathan accidently being a good psychiatrist to bruce is my peak scarebat dark comedy. similar to how in ‘kings of fear’, it was basically ‘i can fix him, but bitch, you’re worse’ kind of deal too. in return, bruce can try an’ help crane actually put some proper garnet for his leg on, an’ look a bit less like a sickly *even if scary-spooky-cool* animal. they can find some middle ground, even if for questionable reasons, or they can have that slow-burn from enemies to lovers thing too. heck, i mean, it’s a wonder how come that scarecrow didn’t kidnap bruce first to try an’ break him a tad more, before making gotham see ‘that they had no hope’ an’ all that. 

on less game plot related notes, i do like to play around with what can be done about jon’s state in arkham knight. like his face being all messed up, half of his body moving way more stiffly, there are a lot of things that can be done with it. an’ the parallel of batman being crippled on the inside an’ crane being pretty much this an’ then also damaged outside of it….mmm, that’s just good. also we all know that nolanverse crane moaned ‘batman’ like a whore while his hair were pulled, but what about arkham knight’s scarecrow lil gay gasps an’ whimpers, when bruce held him by the throat an’ injected him with his own toxin? if gordon an’ jason weren’t there, i wonder what might have happened lol. love scarecrow’s scared expressions in that game btw, somehow they still manage to make him look cute. 

an’ now for a bit of nitpicky bit. when i look back at arkham knight, like some other folks, i do wish there was less…joker in it. he did add some fun elements there or here, but he should have been a background segment tbh. i really wanted to see more of mindbending stuff similar to level in arkham asylum. batman ‘given into’ hallucination joker’s cheers to kill crane, even if it was all a mindfuck bit was tasteless for me. if they wanna make bruce kinda walk that route, i’d rather see him doing it by his own misgivings an’ rage. tho, i do give credit where it’s duo, crane saying ‘you’ve changed’ an’ not sounding esp thrilled about it was curious smth. 

but omg, that’s got long, haha. hope, it’s not too troublesome. i’m kinda chatty an’ rambly kind of person, esp when i talk about things i love. can’t talk short in most cases. 

thank you for the ask btw! i do enjoy talking about scarebat a lot, no matter what version. an’ i hope, that your day is going great as well! i do apologise for how late some of my responses are coming through. i tend to pick at questions for a couple of days or so, just to make sure that i kinda give it my utmost thoughts, haha. hopefully, my answer helped you to form your own vision on the matter better or gave you an idea how different / similar you see smth, when it comes to those two.

"JACK NAPIER"/THE JOKER

HERE'S THE FUNNY BASTARD MAN!!

Despite being a VERY well known gangster before his transformation, "Jack Napier" was a very secretive man, keeping his own history under wraps, and has no actual documentation of a true name, or birth date. However what was known about Napier was that he was the right hand man of Carmine Falcone's rival, Rupert Thorne, and he was often called to either "clean up a mess", or eliminate anyone who went against Thorne. However all of that changed after he got set up at Ace Chemicals, and met The Batman. Napier walked out of that encounter with raw blood red lips, chalk white skin, green hair, and a damaged face, and when he went to get surgery for his face as quick as possible, Napier ended up with a permanent grin. Finding all of recent circumstances absurd, Jack goes completely mad, convinced that life was just some big joke, and if that were the case he'd be the one sharing the punchline. So after killing Thorne and taking over his enterprise, The Joker was not only born, but fully prepared to cause chaos, ruin lives, and share his twisted works of art with Gotham City for his own amusement.

My Joker here is pretty much just a marriage between B:TAS, Batman 89, The Dark Knight, and The Arkham Games. A psychotic gangster who fell into a vat of chemicals, got some facial disfigurement, and began to see life as one bad joke, becoming a literal mad clown as a result.

After meeting Batman again, bro just got worse. Granted he was never truly fine to begin with, but not only did he become more unhinged and destructive after getting his chemical bath, but he became obsessed with The Bat after his second encounter with him. Now what sparked this obsession? Batman deciding not to kill him. Joker was confused at first, but he slowly began to piece it all together, and now had a long "game"... one that he planned on winning.

Harley Quinn is still brought to his side, and he's still a genuine piece of garbage to her, but he ditches her and almost kills her for real the MOMENT she successfully captures Batman all by herself, right under his nose. And they were around each other for 19 years.

This man is responsible for almost poisoning Gotham via a parade, turning Christmas Eve into Batman's most stressful night, a riot at Blackgate, the creation for Two-Face, the creation of Harley Quinn, the creation of Clayface, the near-death of Barbra Gordon (who doesn't get crippled here and isn't Batgirl at that point yet), the traumatization of James Gordon, the death of Jason Todd, the endorsement of Project TITAN, a takeover of Arkham Asylum, the mutation of Killer Croc via TITAN, the traumatization of billions, the deaths of billions, and his final atrocity; turning Tim Drake into a mini-him through torment. This isn't his entire rap-sheet, but it's literally just half of the horrendous shit across the entire franchise along with some new shit that seems like it came from the old school comics. Like this man is likely to fill Gotham PD with actual pigs in cop costumes once as a more harmless prank just a day before doing something actually horrid.

The only limit to his cruelty is that whatever he does has to be peak comedy in his eyes, and if it doesn't reach that he'll actually be annoyed. Like bro didn't even plan on killing Jason Todd, he just wanted to send him back to Batman all broken down and beaten, but he was enjoying it too much and ruined his own work.

He still has some of his connections with the mob, and uses them for some of his schemes, however he's also willing to manipulate some mentally ill fellows from Arkham into helping him.

Sception Reads Cass Cain #10

Batman: Gotham Knights #2 written by Devin Grayson, pencils by Dale Eaglesham

We're finally out of No Man's Land! Gotham's no longer cut off from the rest of the country, and the city is largely rebuilt already - even though that should have taken many years. But it's not like the lasting effects of the year-long mega crossover vanished completely, there were still stories here and there in the months following the end of NML that still referenced the events of the story, like this one. It's a one off story, focused on Bruce & Cassandra - specifically his perception of her - by the same writer and artist as the The Batman Chronicles #18, which we looked at earlier. I wasn't a huge fan of the story in that issue, but I thought they handled Cass alright, which has me feeling optimistic going in.

The basic set up is pretty straight forward. NML is over, but records of who died and who survived in Gotham - especially among people who were homeless to begin with - are still extremely spotty, and a crew of slave traders have kidnapped a bunch of people to sell overseas... which is a very 'conservative conspiracy theorist' take on what human trafficking looks like, but whatever. Bruce and Cass track down which ship the people are on, but not until it's off shore, and before they can get to it there's an explosion onboard and the ship starts to sink, after which it's a race against time to rescue the ship's crew, the traffickers, and the victims alike.

As with the Chronicles issue, I do mostly like how Eaglesham draws Cass in costume. I think it'd be better served with the bigger, chonky belt pouches that can flare out or flop around to help convey motion and better break up the overall black form, but whatever, this is mostly good. He's also really good at rendering a variety of faces and body types, much as in the group shot above. About my only complaint is that he can go a bit overboard in detailing big veiny muscles. It's ok on his Arkham-game style, hulking meat wall version of Batman. Not my preferred take on Bruce aesthetically, but that's more a matter of taste. But he occasionally goes overboard on Cass's musculature too, and it doesn't work as well on her.

Now, a Bat hero storming a room full of guys is normal everyday fare, but Batman hanging back in the doorway and shouting "WAIT!" tells us that we're supposed to read Cass as being careless and impulsive here. Which touches on multiple important aspects of her character - her combat skills make her near unbeatable in a fight with normal human opponents, which in turn makes her overconfident in a way that can come back to bite her in a world where aliens and super-people exist

Anyway, this issue is focused on a different contributing factor to Cass's recklessness - guilt. Cass killed someone, a sin that can never be taken back. She feels deep down that the only way to make up for that is to give her own life in return - not just to save other lives, but to dedicate the rest of her entire life to doing so, to eventually lose her life in the attempt. This death wish makes Cass not just willing but seemingly eager to take on lethal risks - in ways that jeopardize not just her own life but potentially also those she works with or tries to protect.

Batman doesn't know what exactly it is that Cass feels guilty about - if he did then this version of Bruce wouldn't be so willing to let her wear his symbol - but he does understand recklessness and guilt and death wishes - his core motivation is as much about survivor's guilt as it is about vengeance. And as such, he believes that this is an internal conflict for Cass. It isn't something he can save her from, she needs to save herself, and that will mean letting Cass endanger herself in ways that others would absolutely find unacceptable.

That first panel there is the one I was talking about when I mentioned Eaglesham sometimes going overboard on Cass's musculature.

Brick shithouse Cass aside, this is good stuff. So good that we'll be seeing it again. This exact dynamic - Cass struggling with a guilt-fueled death wish, Batman letting her face death in order to confront and overcome that wish, and others judging Bruce to be callous and even abusive for letting a teenage girl under his care endanger herself that way - will play out again in a more expanded form in Cass's ongoing title.

I honestly have only two really minor complaints about how Grayson writes Cass here. The first is that it's just a bit too monotone dark and serious. The story is high danger action emergency through much of it, but we could have had a bit more lighthearted tone early on before they get to the boat. If not a sense of Cass having fun, then at least of her trying too hard to impress Bruce or something, or Bruce giving her some small word of praise and show her being overly excited over it. Something. Cass has these darker aspects to her character, but she's not all downer all the time. This misery is a burden she carries, not who she is.

The other minor complaint is a lot of this characterization is coming to us from those narration blocks. It's not that Cass's feelings /aren't/ being shown. You can really feel Cass's desperation in that top panel as Bruce slips away, abandoning her to face her ghosts alone, or her misery in the center right panel, her head buried in her arms, unable to escape the memory of killing someone. That's good angst, there! The left panel with water and wreckage crashing down on her, the last panel with Cass small and trapped... the art here is fantastic, but the text all over this page is distracting from the emotion and getting in the way of feeling what this character is going through. The narration is mostly fine throughout the issue, good even, but imo this page in particular would have been stronger without it.

The boat captain calls Bruce out for leaving Cass behind, and while he defends his choice, Eaglesham does an excellent job conveying how pained and conflicted he is over this choice.

I mean, obviously she's going to make it at the last moment, but Grayson drags it out for a whole extra page, and I can't complain at all, because the way Eaglesham puts all of the emotions on Bruce's face there is just very good. You can see how much he cares about Cassandra, despite how short a time he's known her. In her core personality and her internal struggles, Cass is very much like Bruce, arguably more so than any of his other proteges. Or, at least, this version of Cass was the most like this version of Bruce. It's part of why Bruce is willing to let her go to these extremes, he believes it's what she needs because he believes it's what he needed, he trusts her to persevere through impossible odds because he trusts that he would persevere through the same. From the very start, Cass very much feels like Bruce's daughter, for better and worse.

We do at least end on a bit of a brighter moment. You have to imagine Barbara was watching Titanic in the tower recently.

All in all, good stuff. The kind of thing that will define Cass's book. A low fantasy/street level story concept, with normal human antagonists and stakes rather than colorful supervillains and city or world-scale action. This focus opens the space to delve deep into the characters' emotions, motivations, and internal conflicts, and a particular focus on the relationship between Bruce and Cass.

Big goofy dramatic superheroics are fun and good, but it's this angsty, layered character business that caught my attention and got me to care about Cassandra in the first place.

•Arkham City Eddie definitely fell for you as a friend first. He as a friend was also super possesive. Always wanting to be around, show you off to anyone else at his job or otherwise.

•Then it got… stranger. He began bragging about you without meaning to. Staying outside your apartment to watch you go about your life. Stalking your social for any hint of who you may like.

•He refuses to admit that he is head over heels for you. He instead switches to playful insults between the two of you so he can distance his feelings. But the more you laugh, and lean into him the more he needs to run.

•As compelled as he is to do something, fear nags at him and he wants to do literally anything else. He’s restless.

•His whole ‘vigilante’ route wasn’t great on his mental health., but it was worse trying to think of your possible rejection. So he kept at it. He amped up his behavior till it burst out of him.

•After nearly 5 years of friendship and 2 years unrequited feelings he’d snap. He’d follow you around and show you.

•When he says he loves you he doesn’t mean it lightly. You mean the world to him, you’ll just have to be kept at his side for a good amount of time.

•He’s not delusional, he just likes the feeling of something ‘normal’. It’s more than likely, almost inevitable, that he will kidnap you. Fill your room with your favorite chintz and keep cams hidden throughout. So long as you can keep your façade of friendship you’re golden.

•He’s not a violent yandere to you, in fact there’s a very small difference between how you were as friends and now as a ‘couple.’

•When the bat eventually shows up to steal you he’s livid. He attempts to throw punches but it doesn’t work: he fails miserably. When he does take you and he sees you hugging the rodent his heart shatters.

•It’s then when he realizes that he’s got to keep a tighter leash. When he gets you again he doesn’t pull back. Your fake outs at this game are for naught.

•You sleep in his bed now. Eat what he eats now. And wear what he wants you to. You have no say in it, and if you wanna talk back you’ll wake up to a tracking chip and a convenient question mark.

•He’s a lot colder to you after he gets back from arkham. No it’s not because he hates you now, hell he doesn’t even wanna teach you a lesson. He is just conflicted on how to go about it.

•In the end you have to kiss up to him (literally) to get anything you actually need. He doesn’t mean to deprive you but he really can’t even take care of himself. You have to convince him you’ll come back to him whenever he gets out of arkham so long as you can get what you need to survive.

•As much as he wants to keep you he knows he can’t. And he aches. He removes your tattoo, lets you go. Keeps an eye on your activities and sends his men to keep an eye.

•He hates to be away from you so long, so he’ll leave riddles. Pointless ones you never return. He leaves letters, sweet, honest letters that would sweep others of their feet if they read them. But they’re left unopen.

•When the gas takes over the city you leave, and he understands its for the best. Now he knows every action you have is our of his control. He wishes sometimes you were still there. Sometimes in Arkham he dreams of the two of you together. Happy- and when he's lit he plays the videos you made when you were younger.

•He’s very much a pining yandere. One who goes too long w/o saying something and breaks too fast. Puts his all into someone only to have his already thin veil ripped in front of him. When he gets the chance to take his love back he can't take care of them. It leads to him having to let them go- and watching from afar as you drift away.

Let's say that S/O died in front of Jonathan’s eyes, but after a week or a month they come back because they were resurrected using the Lazarus Pit or a similar method.

But they have some memory problems. They remember him, but vaguely, but it was enough to find him again. In addition, their memory is gradually being restored.

Arkham Knight!, Asylum! Scarecrow x reader

KNIGHT

A Burlap-faced man was the only person you could remember when you woke up. Torn mouth, nonexistent nose, those milky eyes… You had questions. Who was that? Why did you have so many diosconnected memories of him? There was only one way to find out – Seeking him out. If you were lucky – he had answers. If you were unlucky, he didn’t even exist and you were back to square one.

You found yourself on founder’s island – carefully staying in shadows and hidden from the tanks – which was… to be honest, weird. This wasn’t the Gotham you remembered. Sure, it was rather restless every night, but… tanks? Really?

After maybe an hour of sneaking around, you found yourself in a warehouse. It was messy but almost comforting, in a way. You spotted a tall figure surrounded by vials and beakers full of orange, almost glowing liquids. You took a few wary steps towards him, careful not to startle him too much.

“You – I recognise you! I think.” You said quietly, narrowing your eyes at the man. “We have met, right? I remember you.”

“Hm…” The man hummed. “We have, in fact.” His gravelly voice caught you a bit off-guard, but it was… comforting. As he turned to face you, his expression was hard to read but you could spot a bit of a surprise in there. “We are… were rather close.”

“That so?” You asked. “I mean, that’d make sense since you’re… one of the only people I remember.” He walked up to you, taking off his gauntlet. “But I suppose we’ll see when my memories come back.”

ASYLUM

Despite wanting to stay in bed with your headache, you decided to go out in search of answers. You didn’t remember much, but you knew someone that could maybe help. In the middle of all the broken memories and pain, you had recognised a person. The memories were messy to say the least – lots of laboratories, rust, chemicals… occasionally you’d remember something more, like the screams of someone or syringes. It was a bit intimidating, but this was the best chance you had at getting some answers, and so you set out to search for them.

The day felt slow – nothing seemed to wake up any old memories – well, except for an old warehouse. You slowly opened the door, walking in.

You spotted a man on the other side of the building – he was skinny and tall. You didn’t feel like he was a threat as he felt familiar, so you proceeded to walk closer to him.

“Have I met you before?” You asked, tilting your head at him. “I swear I have.”

“How…?” He looked at you, mouth slightly agape. “How are you…” He stepped closer to you, hesitating, before he put his hands on your cheeks, gently holding it. “Alive?” He finished his sentence, tilting his head at you – almost as if he didn’t believe what he was seeing.

“I, uh-” You hesitated, “I don’t know?”. You took a good look at his face. “To be fair, I don’t remember much in general.” You sighed to which he smiled, unable to hide his excitement any longer.

“How much do you remember?”

“Honestly? Almost nothing-” He tiled his head a little at your response. “But I can tell you’re important somehow.”

BTAS Riddler x F!Reader (x BTAS Penguin?) - Mr. Steal Your Girl

You hated to admit how upset you were. 

You and Oswald weren’t even a thing. He never acknowledged your feelings or your advances, ever. Even if he did you were fairly certain it was out of pity, or because after all his henchmen and lackeys, the only person he ever genuinely had was you. 

You were there for him for everything and for what? Just to be completely shunned out of his life. 

Fine! Whatever! I don’t care!

But you did, you cared so much and that’s what hurt the most. 

You couldn’t stand being in your apartment any longer though either. You’ve cooped yourself in here for atleast three days now. You glanced at the book you’ve been meaning to read…and a drink didn’t sound bad right now. 

After a sigh, you’ve decided to take a trip to the local cafe a couple blocks down from your apartment. It wasn’t anything crazy, but it was a start to get you out and about. To perhaps, restart your life without Oswald in it. 

Little did you know, you would bump into someone from his world.

Edward Nygma was out and about. After being deemed sane once more after years of rigorous treatments and confinement. Despite Batman’s best attempts of keeping the villain down, there was no denying his charismatic ways and the bouts of sanity he did possess when not pushed by those that thought themselves superior of him. 

However, it was foolish to not think he wouldn’t fall into a familiar pattern of quizzing the citizens of Gotham and it’s Dark Knight. For now, he kept a cap on it and decided to just stroll the streets as a normal citizen. Even if the other Gothamites didn’t react as such to his presence. 

Ed passed by a small coffee shop. He didn’t think much of it until he stopped when he noticed a familiar figure in the window. 

Isn’t that Oswald’s squeeze? Odd, she’s not with him…

Oswald often spoke of you during the Rogues monthly poker games and meetings. He spoke with some disdain, but Edward could tell that it was all a ploy. 

A man trying to deceive himself of his own emotions out of fear for an outcome he knows will likely occur…wonder what Crane would say upon the matter?

A naturally curious man, he had to see what caused you two to drift apart. It was odd to see you not latched to the Penguin’s hip. 

He walked right into the establishment. He headed to the counter and ordered a drink, not to look conspicuous and to make it seem like it was a total coincidence to see each other here. 

Edward fake coughed, “excuse me, is that seat next to you–Y/N?”

You were dumbfounded as someone called your name. Too lost in your novel, it took a moment to snap back to reality. 

“Hello? Oh…Edward?” You quirked your eyebrow. You weren’t expecting to run into any other rogues, in fact you were hoping on it. 

“Y/N! How are you? It’s been far too long!” 

“I-I thought you were still in Arkham…” You commented in a nervous chuckle, as far as you were concerned that’s where they all should stay. Oswald is sane so he only went to Stonegate Penitentiary. 

You were aware of Edward Nygma, how could you not be? Oswald mentioned him here and there, and you saw his escapades on the news. You couldn’t lie, he was very brilliant and handsome, but just…your focus was on Oswald. Key word: was. 

“Ah, so I was…I’ve been deemed clinically sane.” He smiled. He took a seat one cushion away from yours. He leaned his arm against the back of the booth that was against the window. 

“Again? Are you?” You inquired, putting a bookmark in your book. 

Edward chuckled. “Do you think so?” 

“You…definitely have your moments, but I suspect you’re a man of habit. It’ll only be a matter of time.” You concluded. 

Ed grinned. “That’s a fair assessment. Speaking of habit, where’s Oswald? It’s odd to see you without him around the corner…”

You couldn’t stop your hands as they balled up into fists and you bit your lip to keep from scoffing. 

“Um..I’m not…Oswald and I aren’t getting along at the moment…if ever…I guess.” You admitted shyly. 

Well, this took the enigmatic man by surprise. You were one of the most persistent and stubborn people he knew (and he knew plenty), he was sure Penguin would cave eventually to your advances.

“Oh, oh dear, I-I’m terribly sorry to hear that…” Edward, not skipping a beat, grabbed your hands and held them in his. 

You were both surprised but almost flattered by the gesture, this was the first bit of comfort you’ve experienced from someone else in a long time.

“Oh, it’s nothing. Should’ve seen it coming, honestly.” You shrugged. 

Edward will never understand. He knew the life of isolation Oswald lead, he lived in one too. The bit of attention, praise, and affection he had received working with Baxter Toys, was unlike anything he felt before in years. He enjoyed it, he’d be lying if he didn’t crave it every now and then. 

To see Oswald just throw that away, someone so attentive, caring, loving, and not to mention beautiful. 

The Riddler was not a foolish man, when he sees an opportunity he’s sure to seek after it. 

“I surely didn’t.” Edward commented. “You were there for him, for everything. Any one with eyes could see how much you cared for him…”

You tried to keep your tears down through the nervous giggles. “I-I…I didn’t think anyone noticed, Oswald didn’t…thank you, Edward.” 

“No need, my dear. I’m just stating the facts.” Edward smiled. “And if you don’t mind me being so forward, if I can state another fact?” 

“What is it?”

Ed leaned in closer to your face. He covered his face with his mouth, as if you two were children, and he was sharing a secret with you. 

He whispered. “It’s Oswald’s loss. To have someone by his side as supportive, loving, and devoted as you…a man would have to be a fool to push you away.” 

When he leaned back and let go of your hands. You took a gasp of air you didn’t know you were holding in. Your cheeks have broken out into a bright red blush. 

“I-I-um…don’t know what to say…um..thank you Edward, again.”

“Please, call me Eddie.” He smiled. “No need to be formal between us, is there?” 

You glanced to the side and away from his eyes. “N-No I suppose not.” 

“Excellent!” Edward chuckled. You didn’t miss the way he scooted closer to you, and you couldn’t say you minded. 

“So, Eddie, what brought you here? Out of all the places to go as a newly appointed sane man?” You inquired. 

You two got lost in conversation. Edward made you laugh and smile more than you have in a long time. Constantly trying to bring someone up at the expense of your own happiness had weighed a toll on you, you didn’t even realize you had. You felt that weight fall off your shoulders though, like you had huge chunks of hulking ice, that was finally being melted away. 

Little did you know, Oswald was taking a walk along the sidewalk that showed the wide window into the cafe. You also didn’t know that he saw you two together. His eyes immediately went red in fury. He bit his cigarette holder in half and almost attempted to break one of his umbrella’s in half. He quickly turned around and headed back to his apartment, heated, enraged, but also disappointed…especially in himself. 

After an hour or two of conversation, you and Eddie decided to take a walk through the nearby park. A park you’ve mentioned to Oswald so many times in the past, you always wanted to take a relaxing stroll with him, with your arms linked together. 

Much like how your arm is linked to Edward’s arm now. His hand over yours where it rests along his bicep. You couldn’t deny the butterflies that fluttered in your stomach. You couldn’t deny that even though it’s been just days since Oswald cut you loose, you were happy, elated even. 

You were comfortable, delighted, and possibly…just maybe…falling for the Riddler. 

Maybe you were just crazy, but in Gotham City who wasn’t?

“Riddle me this, Y/N…” Ed stopped along a bush of daisies and bent down towards the bush. “This very thing you were born with pleases us all. It's even capable of making men fall, while only experienced by few it's treasured by all.” As he concluded his riddle, he held the bundle of flowers in his hand, waiting for you to answer and receive them as a reward. 

“You? Like..me specifically?” You asked. 

“Precisely, your’s moreso.” Ed smirked. 

You rattled your brain for a possible answer, but what about you pleases everyone? Capable of making men fall? You tried to keep your eyes from rolling to the back of your head. 

“Come on, you’ve been doing so well!” Eddie encouraged. 

“I-I know, but I’m at a loss…” You shrugged. 

Edward’s arms fell along with his smile. “You truly don’t know, do you?” 

“Afriad not, Eddie…” You admitted defeatedly, you didn’t like the idea of disappointing him. 

He handed you the flowers, but not before he cupped his thumb and index finger on your chin. Ed forced your head to look back up towards him. His thumb began caressing the corner of your lips and just below your cheek. 

“The answer is beauty.” He stated gently, just barely above a whisper. 

“B-Beauty? Me?” 

“It’s such a shame you don’t see it, but it’s okay. In due time, I’ll show you, that is…if you’ll let me, of course.” Edward inquired. 

“Y-You mean, like, date? The two of us, dating?” 

“Well, in layman’s terms, I guess that’s what you’d call it. I was going for courting, but yes, dating. If again, it’s not too soon for you or forward of me.” 

You gasped softly, this man has developed a habit of taking your breath away. You couldn’t deny these emotions you were feeling by being with him.

You laughed, smiled. You got happy jitters around him, you enjoyed the warmth he radiated when you held his hand or leaned against him. He made you feel amazing, smart, and wanted. 

You were actually wanted by someone. 

“I would love to, Eddie.” You took his hands and held them strongly in yours. You’re not sure if it was the giddiness from his attention or the absolute euphoria warming your insides, but you leaned in and kissed his cheek. 

For once throughout the whole day, Edward was shocked. His eyes widened and his prominent cheeks were dusted pink for a minute. 

His blushes made you giggle. It pleased you to know that you too could make him a blushing mess as much as he did you. 

“T-That’s amazing! Thank you, Y/N. I promise you.” He put his hand on top of yours, as your arm went back to linking with his. Your flowers by your side in your other hand. 

“I promise you won’t regret it.” 

“I have a feeling I won’t, not this time.”

I guess this is just a thing I'm doing now. Commentary on The Man Who Stopped Laughing #3!

(Spoilers and lotsa gore below the cut.)

You know, between whatever is going on with the two Jokers in TMWSL, the DNA gremlins in The Deadly Duo, and the multiple Jokers in Bruce's head over in Zdarsky's Batman, there are a lot of Joker clones running around these stories right now!

But in this story, we come back in to Jason attacking Protagonist Joker, who isn’t much upset about it.

This made me think of that bit in the Arkham Knight game, when Joker talks like he and Bruce are Jason’s parents.

Poisoned > shot, thinks Joker.

Jason says his intention is to kill the clown, but he sure doesn’t get it over with. Here it seems like he plans to do some interrogation first.

"I don't really understand, no" and "but you asked me a question" are my readings. lol

Anyway, all the hubbub gives Joker the opportunity to trick Jason into thinking Batman has shown up to keep Joker alive as usual.

Escape time! Joker uses the OG Harley bust to help him sink under the cover of the water. And maybe I’m thinking too much about this, but it comes off as symbolic? Joker clinging to a past version of Harley to keep him alive, which she used to happily do. And if you read it like that, of course he ends up losing the bust too. lol

Meanwhile, Possible Clone Joker tries to get back in with the Legion of Doom, but he can’t help but be kind of a dick about it.

Joker stops the confrontation from descending into a gunfight, and Luthor says this.

A clue that this is Definitely Clone Joker? Maybe!

Ultimately, the Legion is not impressed with Joker and tells him to get lost, and what's weird about this is that Punchline has the same sentiment.

Punchline has been around for so short a time and DC is already dropping the ball on her. I've read Joker War, her origin story, her B-side story in the Joker 2021 issues, and the two issues of The Gotham Game so far, and there's been no moment where her obsession with being Joker's acolyte and spreading "his message" converts into not caring about  him and worrying only for her own self-interest. Does that make sense as a transition? Sure! But I'd like to see that transition! The last time Punchline talked to Joker, it was strongly implied that her mass manipulation of the public during her trial was part of some scheme they'd worked out together, so when she sees him again and just drops him like this, it’s super strange. I guess it’s possible that's part of some other plan? Or I missed something? Meh. She's still written so flatly and it's getting to me.

Anyway, both Jokers have no friends and they are sad. :(

Meanwhile, Protag Joker washes up on shore.

Poisoned > shot > drowning, thinks Joker, before he heads to the hospital.

More positive words for Jason! Maybe Jason will be his friend? :(

Joker gets the doctor into a back room and persuades him to give him treatment.

A clue that this is Not The Real Joker? Maybe!

I’m highlighting this because 1) I'm glad Joker managed to hang onto some fun boxers and 2) This is my preferred Joker physique, wiry, near skeletal. And filled with bullet holes, I guess. That’s the lifestyle!

The doctor patches Joker up but says that he thinks there's still a bullet in Joker's brain. Joker says take it out, because of course he does.

And then. I mean. This page is, frankly, amazing.

No one is surprised at Joker’s choice of foreplay.

So I thought when the bullet was removed, we’d finally get some kind of revelation, like Joker remembering what went down pre-getting shot in the head. Alas, this chapter ends soon after this.

And we're still left with no firm clues as to who is real Joker. You can't distract me with the horny brain surgery, Rosenberg!! Or with this poor woman who appears to have given birth outside in the snow with only a blanket for cover??

I have questions and no answers!

So then we get the Silver Age-y B-story, which also takes place at a hospital, at least after Joker gets sliced in half by a train.

So I guess there’s also two Jokers here, heyoooo

Joker continues to be hopelessly hapless at the hospital.

This is also an amazing panel.

The hospital staff flee the chaos, so it's up to the henchmen to get Joker help, with this fun gag.

I’m not sure if Professor Pyg is actually a doctor in some capacity, but he "helps” Joker just about how you’d expect.

So this B-story is not about Joker’s failed personal relationships like the first two, but about seeking medical assistance to become whole, and not at all finding the care he needs or was even seeking. In fact, the treatment ends up severing the minor, consistent relationships he does have. Some hidden fear he has about actually cooperating with Arkham staff? Maybe! Am I over-reading? Maybe!

If you’re also reading Zdarsky’s Batman, you’ll see in #130 that the main story features Batman using compassion to fight Failsafe, and that compassion is also significant in the B-story, where Bruce reinforces that Joker is included in his desire to help people. And that could so easily tie into TMWSL, with Bruce again reaching out to Joker... I can’t help but wonder!

The Riddler has always been a cryptic man. He's been known for his riddles around Gotham. Everything is a riddle with him...

Including his romantic intentions.

He's an insecure and confusing man to understand. There's times he wants to force you, his obsession, to worship him and the ground he walks on. Then there's other times where he wants to worship you... acting like you're the best thing that's ever happened to him.

There's times he wants you to call his name... then there's times he hates to hear it. The Riddler both wants to be held yet left alone.

His toughest riddle is how to show him affection.

The Riddler has been hooked on you for a long time. Way before he managed to keep you in a cage of his design... you caught his eye.

You were an ally of Batman... a smart one, too.

Your intelligence rivaled that of the detective himself. The Riddler at first felt threatened. Batman humiliated him all the time, now you were going to join him?

Yet... you didn't. You solved his riddles but he never got too upset about it. The Riddler found your presence pleasant compared to the Batman.

Each riddle he made you complete felt like a game. He wasn't sure why he felt so different towards you, he doubted you even thought of him the same. Perhaps you just weren't as judging?

Maybe you being different was simply an illusion crafted from his mind to excuse his abnormal adoration towards you.

He'd never say this out loud until he had you to himself but The Riddler had fallen for you. At first he simply had you participate in riddles with Batman. Then he removed Batman all together.

It became your form of bonding... each time he saw you, it drove him insane.

Even his conversations towards you became awkward flirting you'd always refuse.

"Have I mentioned how great you look tonight, dear? I made this one all for you...."

"How DARE you think you're too good for me!" You recall him saying. "I will chase you forever until I finally get you to myself!"

He'd flirt before every little puzzle of his, only to get frustrated when you turn him down. It's a quick switch in mood and you tried to only set him off at the end of his riddles.

You quickly noticed his motive with his riddles. Each riddle after that was strangely related to you or him. He was also getting desperate with his flirting until he snapped one day.

"Why do you want to know?"

"Do you have a thing with the Bat!?" He yelled at you once, you could hear the growl in his voice. "... you know we can't have that, dear."

"It's simple..." You remember The Riddler saying before starting the final riddle he prepared for you. "You will be mine."

The riddle planned for you was a trap. Pass or fail, your fate would've been the same. Tossed into a cage with irritating green paint... right in front of The Riddler himself.

That was when The Riddler finally had you to himself. It required some cheating, sure, but he's won this game of romance. That's all it was in his mind,

A game of courtship that he was leading you through... testing you to see if you were right for him.

Now... you truly are his. All locked in a cage... collar around your neck... looking like his little pet more than some sidekick. He liked the confidence you gave him.

Meanwhile you're trying to hold out until Batman comes around. For now... you have to follow his little games. Each day is a new riddle... something else to solve so you can keep Riddler entertained.

He liked to work your mind. He loved to watch you solve something. What he adored even more was how affectionate you got when he threatened you.

You may have never said it... but he knows Batman is coming. You may be affectionate now... yet he knew you'd turn right around once Batman came in the picture. The thought angered him...

But Riddler is prepared.

He'll make his deadliest riddle yet... once the bat is gone, then he'll finally have you all to himself.

This is the part where I reveal i'm a fake comic fan 😭 I honestly haven't read a lot of comics so I can't answer this question properly but hmm. I like his post crisis robin run. The precrisis one is also nice bc Natalia adopts him. Like hell yeah let morally grey women adopt that kid!

And uhh. I think Countdown is..interesting. It could be better of course but the part where he's in another universe where Bruce went rogue after his death and then he says they're both lonely and then alternate Bruce dies. Delicious.

I think he had some good stuff in Man Who Stopped Laughing(was that the name? Its so long i forgot it) like where he kinda talks abt his philosophy. You mentioned that in one fo your posts too right? Gotham War had some nice moments too but uhh. It's gotham war.

I like Arkham Knight Jason, I don't think many do though. I hate the "Jason wants to kill Bruce" thing most of the time but Arkham manages it well I think. It makes sense for that particular Jason to want to kill Bruce.

I don't have anything other than that I'm afraid. Unlike you and others, I haven't really read a lot of comics soo my answer is kinda lacking, hope you don't mind though haha.

Wall o’ Text : The Nintendo Direct

Figured I may as well type up my thoughts on everything from the Direct.  I have it going in the background to remember everything that was shown.  So yeah, if you care about trailer spoilers, now’s your chance to bail, yo.

So let’s get to it, and hopefully not get interrupted by another powerout.

1) Pokemon ScVi DLC - I’m looking forward to these.  ScVi can be a buggy mess, but I still overall enjoyed the games.  Since I’m not super competitive, I don’t look at a bunch of new legendaries as “OH GOD WHAT WILL THIS DO TO THE META QUICK BAN EVERYTHING,” I just see them as “Oh, cool, new things to collect and train, yay!” I do however hope there are still some things they might be hiding.  I’d like to see some new Paradox forms show up.

2) Sonic Superstars - Honestly looks pretty good.  I do wonder if we might get more characters as DLC.  I’d especially love to see what a Classic style Cream would look like.

3) Palia - ...... (checks “cozy farm sim off the bingo sheet”)  Nothing really stood out to me here, other than the phrase “free to play,” meaning microtransaction heck.  No thanks.

4) Persona 5 Tactica - Tactics games usually aren’t a go to for me, though this looks maybe more like the kind of tactics used in things like Mario + Rabbids, which I enjoyed, so I might be interested in this one?  Not super high priority, but on the radar.

5) Mythforce - This honestly might be on the “I’ll want to see more” list.  The artstyle is actually pretty dang nice, it definitely captures that He-Man style saturday morning cartoon look.

6) New Splatfest - Well, I can’t play online, don’t even HAVE Splatoon 3, but as far as choice, I’m torn between Strawberry or Mint Chip, love both of those.  But hey, Vanilla is good too.  Honestly hard to pick on this one.

7) Detective Pikachu Returns - Okay, was NOT expecting that.  I enjoyed the original, so definitely happy for it.

8) Super Mario RPG Remaster - Oh gods it looks beautiful.  It’s one of the rare RPGs that I really did enjoy, so I’ll likely be interested in this one.

9) Untitled Peach Game - Intrigued, but we know like, nothing.

10) Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon Port - I have the 3DS game, but never actually played it, so this might spur me to do so.

11) Batman : Arkham Trilogy - I might actually want this.  I loved Assylum and City, never got to play Knight, but I quite enjoyed the ones I did play.  A case of “wouldn’t mind an excuse to play them again.”

12) Gloomhaven - No real strong thoughts on this one admittedly.

13) Just Dance 2024 Edition - (checks the year)  Hey, you can’t do that!  Anyway, no real strong feeling here either,

14) Silent Hope - I’m not sure anything really drew me in on this one.  The concept of no one being able to talk, I at first wondered what that would do for storytelling, like, how they’d work with that concept.  I figured it could be interesting, but also would run the risk of if everything’s just pantomimed, it could get tiring.  But then we just get an NPC that talks for everyone anyway, so... (shrug).

15) Fae Farm - Oy, I already got the “cozy farming sim” checkmark.  No strong feelings here.

16) Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 Turbocharged - I never played that previous Hot Wheels game that came up, but it looked like it could be interesting.  Was the original any good?

17) Manic Mechanics - Basically Undercooked but with car fixing?  I’ve played Undercooked solo which, uh....  Oof.  It’s a lot to keep track of, haha.  Definitely something that would be more fun with other players.

18) Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope DLC - I still need to finish the first game, but it is enjoyable.  So happy for this, and already have the pass so got it downloaded.

19) Dragon Quest Monsters : The Dark Prince - Heck yeah new DQM, I did enjoy those games, so might want this.

20) Pikmin 4 - (hype intensifies)  Super looking forward to this.  I’m happy to see Pikmin 2 style dungeons return, I enjoyed those.  Wonder if we have a time limit this time or not, I can enjoy with or without, but I do wonder if this might be more PIkmin 2 style “take your time,” which I can appreciate.

21) Pikmin 1 + 2 - Heck yeah, all four Pikmin games on one system?  Well, no Hey Pikmin, but the mainline ones, which heck yeah.  I’ll probably wait for the physical version though.

22) Metal Gear Solid : Master Collection Vol. 1 - I’ve never been too into the Metal Gear series, buuuuuut I might be thinking of getting it as a holiday gift for my uncle.

23) Vampire Survivors - Already got it on Steam.  And still haven’t figured out how to survive a full minute past Death’s appearance which is like, a requirement on every stage.

24) Headbangers Rhythm Royale - My only real thought here is Team 17 made a pigeon game, so they will explode violently and not where you told them to.

25) Penny’s Big Breakaway - This looks super fun, I hope it turns out good.

26) Mario Kart 8 DLC - I’m kind of surprised Kamek got in as the Tour rep over Pauline.

27) Star Ocean The Second Story R - I have no real nostalgia for this one, never played the original, don’t know much about the series.

28) WarioWare : Move It! - My only concern is how responsive will the motion controls be.  I usually find motion controls frustrating.

29) Nintendo Live - No way I’d be able to attend, so no real thoughts.

30) Tears of the Kingdom amiibos - These look cool, definitely want them.

31) Super Mario Bros. Wonder - Honestly, yes please.  This looks super fun.

So yeah, all in all, very strong Direct.
