Could I request something with James? Where reader lashes out at him and she had arguments with her ex a lot and expected this (her lash out) to get into a really big argument but he’s just like „okay noted“ and super kind about it (a little bit inspired by all my ghosts by lizzy)
(You can obviously change stuff to your liking and no pressure)
all hail lizzy mcalpine. i loved this request and i love james! thank you!
“Im serious, James!” You exclaim, a little louder than necessary. “I miss you! You’re always at practice, or with the boys, and I love the boys! But I miss you!”
He pauses in the doorway, startled by your reaction.
Remus and Sirius miss me too, you expect him to say, or rather, I can’t miss rugby cause you miss me a little more. You anticipate the sting of his words before they come, bracing yourself as you lean back against the kitchen countertop. They don’t come.
“And I miss your hugs.” You tear up pitifully, trying again, rather weakly, as he walks over. You don’t want an argument, but why isn’t it coming? “You’ve been gone so much. You know I hate doing the dishes.”
He grabs ahold of your elbow, his thumb digging into the crease as he pulls you close. Your palms dig into your eyes as your forehead dips against his chest. The way your shoulders shake aches him. He should never be the reason for your tears.
He’s been gone more recently, yes, and he feels terrible about it. If he’s not at rugby, the boys want to see him, and if he’s not with the boys, he’s at rugby. He’s missed you so much recently, he just didn’t know you mirrored his emotions.
“I’m the worst,” James says sincerely. “I didn’t know I was making you feel like this.”
“I’m sorry,” you sniffle, stress evident in your choked voice. “I’m not trying to make you feel bad or guilty, by crying I mean.”
He rocks you back and forth, arms securely over your shoulders. His embrace is a little tight, but this is the longest hug you’ve had this week and you can’t bring yourself to say something.
“Please don’t say that, please don’t feel bad for crying.”
“It’s totally manipulative though, I know, I’m sorry.”
He pulls back, searching for something in your eyes. “What are you talking about?”
“It’s just-“
He looks so sad and confused as you pause midway. Helpless, like he doesn’t know what to do with you. Quietly, you feel bad for giving him the crease between his brows.
“You’re not mad?”
“Mad?” James appalls. “I’m going mad knowing I’m the dolt that made you feel like this.”
“James-“
“I’d totally beat someone up if they treated you like this, I would hate them forever.”
“Stop.”
“No, seriously!” He doubles down. “I would never forgive them.”
He’s so unapologetically him it aches you deeply. He’s rosy, smiles and boyish giggles. Warm in the summer, and warm in the winter. Radiating a kind of glow that only very special people are able to emanate. Sometimes you secretly feel like you’ll never be able to glow like him, but he always manages to bring it out of you when you’re around him.
You frown suddenly. “I’m so tired of missing you, Jamie.”
“I miss you too, lovely.” He’s serious again. “How can we get through this?”
You shrug, unused to this gentle treatment you so desperately deserve.
“Should we install weekly dates, hmm?” James asks. “We should, shouldn’t we?”
You shrug again feeling weak with emotion.
“Or tell the boys to bugger off,” he continues without giving you room to speak. “You’re much too kind to say it but I know, my love.”
You laugh quietly, nudging your cheek against his shoulder. He’s fond, smiling as he watches down to you.
“Oh, my girl,” he croons, grabbing your warm face to cradle. “Totally not to pull the victim card, but I missed you so much more.”
“Really?”
“I moon over you while you’re away. The boys are sick of it.”
He leans down nuzzling his cheek against yours, pulling back to kiss the corner of your mouth, the side of your nose, the apple of your cheek. You don’t know what to do with yourself, letting your wringing hands float up to hold his shoulders.
“Thank you for telling me.” He says honestly.
You reel earnestly. Only James Potter could thank you for trying to start an argument.
“You’re welcome.”

@jegulus-microfic december 25, ideology, 449 words
James is in the middle of writing times tables on the board when Evelyn says, “Mr Potter! You have a visitor.”
He glances to the door of his classroom, trying to hide his smile when he finds Regulus leaning in the doorway watching him. “Oh, good afternoon, Mr Black. To what do we owe this pleasure?”
“I was just wondering if you had any laminating sheets I could borrow? I’m out,” Regulus says.
James doesn’t point out that there was no need for Regulus to cross campus to his second grade classroom just for laminating sheets; he’s pretty certain the senior school has laminators. But he’s not mad about the interruption.
“Yeah of course, they’re in my office,” he says, gesturing to the door at the back of the room. A little pointless; Regulus is not a stranger in James’ classroom and knows exactly where his office is. “Help yourself.”
The entire class, James included, watches Regulus as he crosses the room, only returning to their lesson once Regulus has left the classroom with a quiet, “Thanks.”
“Mr Potter,” Bernie calls out. “Do you have a crush on Mr Black?”
James deliberates for a moment, before sitting on the edge of his desk and whispering, “I do. But it’s a secret, so you can’t tell anyone.”
The class breaks out in a chorus of giggling ooh’s and teasing aah’s.
“But Mr Potter, he always looks so serious!”
“Well, Roland. That’s because Mr Black teaches boring things like civics and political ideology.”
“You mean he doesn’t get to do any arts and crafts?” Lizzie asks, a horrified look on her face.
James shakes his head, putting on his saddest expression as he says, “Never.”
The kids become a bit obsessed with Regulus after that, asking about him almost daily, breaking into a chorus of giggles any time Regulus comes by the classroom. Regulus has clearly caught on, dropping by more and more frequently, asking to borrow anything from a stapler to sometimes something as ridiculous as a piece of paper.
One day, just as Regulus is about to walk out of the classroom with a wave, Lacey calls out, “Mr Black! Do you have a crush on Mr Potter?”
He stops in the doorway, corner of his lips lifted in a smirk as he replies, “Why do you ask that?”
“Because he has a crush on you, obviously.”
James buries his face in his hands for a moment, shoulders shaking with laughter, looking up as Regulus says, “Oh, I definitely have a crush on him, that’s why I married him.”
He’s pretty sure the entire school would be able to hear the way his classroom screams and cheers in celebration.

“I need you," Y/N hears from behind her and turns around to see her best friend standing there, looking exasperated.
“Good afternoon, Y/N. I sincerely hope your day is going well,” she begins sarcastically as she finishes hanging her mother's latest shipment of dresses on the racks.
Y/N works in her mother's boutique. A boutique in Small Heath sounded ridiculous considering the surroundings but her mother had opened the store, claiming that women needed a nice place to shop among the smoke and grime. “Well Thomas, it’s going so well that I’m sure nothing will bother me for the rest of the day, even when my best friend storms in like some neanderthal claiming he needs me like it’s a matter of life or death.”
Tommy stood there, his hands in his pocket, looking at her unimpressed, his brows creased into a frown. A smug smirk stretches across her face.
“What can I do you for, Tommy?” She asks, moving back behind the counter.
“I need you to go to the races with me,” he tells her removing his hands from his pockets and stepping closer to the counter.
“What? Has Hell frozen over or is it finally the day women have stopped throwing themselves at Thomas Shelby’s feet?” She teases her childhood friend. “Oh, Tommy, it must be hard,” she says pouting, giving her him a look of false sympathy.
“Shut it, you,” he glares at her, elbows resting on the counter as he leans forward. “I’m being serious.”
“Why do you want to take me to the races?” She questions him. They hadn’t been to the races together since before the war. It was sort of their tradition, one that was so easily forgotten when the war was over, and Tommy had thrown himself into making a better name for the Shelby’s. Instead of making the name better, he also made it fearful. “Why don’t you take that pretty barmaid you seem so smitten with. Or Lizzy, who’s more than eager to have a proper date with you.”
“Why should I take them when I can take you, eh?” he asks, watching her as she busies herself with the clutter on the counter. She looks unsure but Tommy can tell that she’s thinking hard about it. “What are you afraid of?”
“That you’ll forget all about the barmaid and fall hopelessly in love with me again,” she quips with a smile that doesn’t quite reach her eyes. “Just like when we were kids. You could never resist my charm and we don't want to break the barmaid's poor treacherous heart.”
Y/N couldn't deny that she did like Grace, the barmaid Harry had hired, at first. She seemed lovely and got along quite well with her until she realized Grace was asking her a lot of questions about Tommy. At first, she thought the blonde woman fancied her best friend and she wasn't sure how she felt about it. Grace wasn't the first woman to end up with a crush on the blue-eyed devil. Tommy wasn't hard to fall in love with. But when she started asking her about the Shelby family business and the Peaky Blinders, she became suspicious that Grace's interest in Tommy wasn't as genuine as she made it out to be. And then there was the time she caught Grace eavesdropping and snooping around. She began to put two and two together.
An Irish inspector and a pretty Irish woman, step foot in Small Heath at the same time. The barmaid, who's never actually worked in a pub before now, conveniently gets herself a job at the Garrison, the pub the Shelby Brothers frequent often and just so happens to set her eyes on the leader of the Peaky Blinders.
She'd tried to talk to Tommy about it, but the stubborn man wouldn't hear any of it so she went to Polly who had also done the math. For a man who claimed to be smart, he became the stupidest idiot she's ever met when it comes to a pretty face.
“I knew that love tea would have consequences,” he smiles thinking of the times they sat with his mother while she did what she called magic. He purposefully ignores her comment about Grace. He didn't want to talk or think about her right now. His sole focus is on convincing Y/N to go to the races with him, like old times and how he'd promised her all those years ago. “Maybe it’s why I never stopped being hopelessly in love with you.”
"Don't tell Grace that," she says looking back at him before moving on to inspect the next dress, a pretty deep forest green with black beading and a black lace hem.
"Fuck Grace," he scoffs, rolling his eyes. "This is about us."
"There is no us, Tommy," she sighs and moves on to the red dress that's not as pretty as the green.
"Just come to the races with me," he begins. "I haven't taken you in a while. Let me take you again."
"Do I have a choice?"
He shakes his head, "No."
She looks at him, her brows creased into a frown showing her frustration.
"Wear the green one," he adds, dropping £7 onto the counter.
"It's only worth £5," she informs him, knowing there is no point in arguing with him. Once Tommy was set on something, there was no stopping him.
"Buy something to go with it," he suggests. "Maybe some new shoes," he adds as he takes the dress off the mannequin and hands it to her, placing a soft kiss on her cheek before he starts making his way out of the store. "I'll pick you up at 8:30 tomorrow morning."
"I despise you, Thomas Shelby," she calls after him.
"And I love you, Y/N L/N" he says when he reaches the door and turns to look at her once more. "Hopelessly love you."
Her smile goes from ear to ear this time as she watches him leave, with a slight shake of her head. She turns to go back to the counter to wrap the dress up and startles when she sees her mother standing there, a knowing smirk on her lips.
"It's about time that boy made his move," her mother says, taking the dress from her and folds it neatly on the paper they use to wrap the clothing in. "Better late than never, I guess."
"It's not like that, Mum," she says picking up the £7 Tommy left and placing it inside the till.
"Of course, it is," her mum argues, walking towards where the shoes are and picks out a pair of black t-strap heels, to match the beading on the dress and brings them over to the counter. "Thomas Shelby has been in love with you since you were both five years old and you've been in love with him for just as long," she adds placing the shoebox on the counter next to the dress. "Don't waste any more time, Darling."
"I do love him," she admits. "Some days I wonder why."
"And you'll have plenty more of those days," her mum chuckles. "Now get out of here and go rest up for tomorrow."
"I love you, mum," she says hugging the woman who gave her life.
"I love you too, sweetheart."
Tumblr media
"I must admit, I did miss this," Y/N says, sitting across the table from Tommy as they sat in the VIP area of the racecourse, in the forest green with black beading dress he paid for and heels her mother picked out.
After a successful day at the races, they made their way up to the VIP lounge where they got a drink, a meal and did some dancing. Tommy was unable to keep his eyes off her from the moment he saw her standing on the curb waiting for him to pick her up. It made driving a little difficult since he tried his hardest to concentrate on the road and not the beautiful woman sitting next him. And then when they got to the races, he glared down, silently threatening the men who dared to let their eyes linger on her.
"Do you remember the first time we snuck in here?" he asks her, a soft smile on his lips. Leaning back, he watches her as she thinks back to it.
They were 16 at the time and she had come along with him, his brothers and his father. He'd been to the races plenty of times before, but she'd never been until that day. They both got dressed in their finest clothes back then, which were nowhere near the standard of clothing they were in today. Tommy had tried to talk his way into the VIP section, using that silver tongue of his that he had been born with. Unfortunately, it didn't work, and they had found a space in the back that they could use to sneak into the elegant area reserved for the wealthy.
They'd spent 10 minutes in the area before they were escorted out and off the grounds of the racecourse and were made to wait there until his dad returned from being inside. That night Tommy had made her a promise.
"I promise that one day, I will buy you the prettiest dress and we'll go back there, and they'll let us in. When they do, we'll spend the night dancing and when I take you home afterwards, I'll kiss you goodnight."
She feels her heart skip a beat as she remembers word for word what he had promised her. As she got older, she had always played it off as a silly childish promise that held no real meaning.
Tommy stood up from his chair and moved round the table, standing beside her as he held his hand out towards her. "Let's go home, Love."
Y/N takes his hand and stands up, grabbing her clutch off the table and lets him lead her back to his vehicle.
Once they arrive at the passenger's side, Tommy decides he can't wait until he drops her off home. Stopping her from getting into the car, he pulls her close, a hand on her waist and the other caresses her cheek.
"Tommy," her voice comes out as a whisper as her heart jumps into her throat at the little space left between them.
"I can't wait," he breathes, his voice soft as he plants his lips to hers in a soft and sweet kiss. Both their eyes flutter closed as a rush of warmth envelopes them as they pull each other as close as they can, deepening the kiss.
Tommy is the one to end it when they start to become breathless. "I am hopelessly in love with you."
"I know," she says, unable to hide her grin as she kisses him again. "I am hopelessly in love with you too, Thomas Shelby."

never grow up part six
summary: chris spends one last night with sunny before going back to LA. once he's there, rumors spiral about him and other girls, forcing another meaningful phone call. part five part seven
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chris left my apartment, packed the last of his things, and stopped at my place one more time before leaving for LA.
He actually spent the night.
I kissed him goodnight, the silly goodnight kiss on the cheek I have given him every sleepover since we were kids.
“Give me one real one,” he said, pleading with me.
“I can’t, Chris.”
“Why not?” he asked, his voice quiet, even though we were the only ones in the room. “You kissed me earlier today.”
“I know, but then we agreed that we shouldn’t do anything more right now,” I reminded him. “If I can’t be with you, I don’t think we should kiss.”
He sat up, letting the covers fall, his bare chest on display. I had to force myself not to stare at his skin, his necklace laid out over his collarbones making it terribly difficult.
“I’m gonna be gone for two months, Sunny,” he said. “Please.”
It’s hard to say no to him. I knew I wanted to, but I couldn’t. I couldn’t let myself fall into him when I knew it would hurt me. The worst part is, he isn’t trying to hurt me, and I don’t want to hurt him, but the result of our actions doom us, and the only thing that will come out of it is pain.
But when he holds my chin in his fingers, I’m willing to risk everything, just like I did before.
I kiss him, and I kiss him hard.
He melted into me first, then he was trying to fight with me for dominance.
His hand cupped my face, and in seconds he was on top of me, just like he was before he left and we lost everything. It was like we were picking up right where we left off.
He pressed himself down into me, a whimper of desperation leaving my lips. He listened to every cry of pleasure I made as he continued to touch me. I held onto him for dear life, begging him to never let go.
We had sex again that night.
We slept in the same bed, naked the entire night, holding onto each other.
His alarm woke us the next morning.
“Babe.”
I smiled at the name, my eyes opening to find him dressing himself.
“Listen to me,” he said, holding my face in his hands. “I don’t know when we’re going to be together, but it’s going to happen. Just please, please promise me that you will make yourself happy. I just want you to be happy, okay? And if that means you’re with someone else–” he stopped himself and took a breath. “I’m going to be really happy for you. But if he’s a piece of shit, I’m going to beat the shit out of him.”
I breathed out a laugh. He gave me a look as if he was assuring me that he was fully serious. “I promise.” I watched him finish dressing himself, silencing lingering between us. “I love you,” I told him.
He kissed my forehead and said, “I know, Sunshine.” He smiled at me, the biggest grin I’ve ever seen. “I love you too.”
He kissed me over and over again, promising that he would be with me someday. I watched him leave my room, and I listened for the front door to close, and I turned over, facing the ceiling as the tears started to spill out.
I turned over, grabbing my phone to wish him a safe flight, when I felt a chill on my neck.
The necklace he wore over here was now around my own neck, the pendant resting on my chest.
I don’t know when he put it on me, but it was mine now, and it was a memory of our last night before he went back to LA.
me: text me when you land
chris: Getting our bags from the claim now. Gonna go back home and do some work. If I don’t respond fast that’s why.
chris: I miss you
me: i miss you too. thank u for the necklace
me: when did you even get it on me lol
chris: You were knocked tf out lmao
chris: Don’t take it off
chris: But remember what I said
me: what am i supposed to say if a guy asks about my necklace?
chris: It was a gift
chris: Gotta go
chris: Love you
me: i love you too
–
I tried to put myself out there. I really did.
I couldn’t focus on anyone other than Chris. It wasn’t fair to any guy for me to pretend like my childhood best friend wasn’t the only thing on my mind.
Chris and I were texting more than ever since he moved to LA. Everything was so perfect. I couldn’t give myself to someone else when I knew he was what I wanted.
We stayed up late on FaceTime, laughing like kids who were up past their bedtime. It was obvious everything was different between us in the best way.
When people would ask me if I was single, it was the hardest question to answer. I was, but I didn’t want to start being with someone else, knowing what I felt for him. It wasn’t fair to anyone involved.
I was with my friends at a bar when I saw Chris and another girl photographed together.
It popped up on my phone and I couldn’t pull myself away from it.
I knew he was friends with a lot of girls. I was never worried about it.
This just seemed different.
I put my phone face down.
Every time I heard it vibrate, I looked.
I put it on do not disturb, and even then, I couldn’t keep myself from looking away.
I shoved my phone in my back pocket, trying to distract myself with more drinks.
I felt like I was failing him by being upset about these pictures. He wanted us to try to be with other people until we could be together, but how was I supposed to be with someone if I was telling myself I was supposed to be with Chris?
Later in the night, my phone rang in my pocket. Whoever it was, clearly was trying to reach me, because they got through the do not disturb setting on my phone.
It was Chris.
Without thinking, I declined the call. I tucked the phone back into my pocket and started playing with my necklace – Chris’ necklace.
My phone rang again.
I wasn’t in the position to talk right now, not to him. I was drunk, trying to sober up with food and water, but I was definitely still tipsy.
chris: Answer the phone
He called again, and this time I answered.
“Don’t look online–”
“Too late,” I say.
“It’s not what it looks like, I swear. We went to an event, we were talking, and it was innocent, really. The pictures make it look really bad, but we aren’t together. Nothing happened.”
I feel relief, and then I feel guilty for it.
“Why are you telling me that? We aren’t together, remember? We’re just friends who mess around.”
“Are you with anyone– Are you seeing anyone right now?” he asks carefully, choosing his words wisely. “Is there someone–”
“No,” I interrupt him. “In fact, a guy was hitting on me tonight. Super cute too. He was really funny. But I didn’t have the heart to tell him I wasn’t interested because I’m in love with my best friend, who I can’t be with.”
The line goes silent. So silent that I have to check if he’s even on the call still.
“Be with me.”
Time freezes.
“What?”
“Be my girlfriend.”
I held my phone tightly. “Chris, I’m drunk. I can’t do this right now.”
“Sunny–”
“Chris,” I plead. “Not now.”
I hear him breathe sharply. “Get home safe, okay? Text me when you’re home.”
“I will,” I said before hanging up the phone.
My friends and I then Ubered home, and as I laid in my bed, I texted Chris.
me: home
chris: *chris loved your message*
I went to bed that night and woke up with a pounding headache, but the first thing on my mind was Chris.
me: i’m sorry if i was being mean last night. i was drunk and i didn’t want to talk about everything when i wasn’t fully there you know
He didn’t text back, but he called me.
It was noon in Boston. 9 a.m. in LA.
“What are you doing up?” I ask, the first thing I say when I answer the phone.
“Waited for you to get home, then fell asleep. Then I woke up early so we could talk first thing.”
“You need to sleep,” I tell him.
“I need to talk to you,” he says instead.
I roll over in my bed, pulling the covers up to my chin. “I’m here.”
“I love you,” he spits out quickly. “So fucking much, Sunny. I was wrong, okay? I was wrong and I shouldn’t have told you to go off and be with other people. When the pictures got taken of me and that girl, I just thought about how awful I would feel if I saw some shit about you and a guy. Fuck, I would be a mess.”
I listen to his rambling, letting him get everything out before I say anything back.
“If you had a boyfriend, I would want to like him. I wanna support you and be his friend, but I just can’t. I know I’ll hate him even if he was the best guy this world has ever seen,” he admits. “I would hate him for getting to have you the way I want you. It wouldn’t be fair.”
I listen to him closely, and I know what’s coming. I wait impatiently, needing to hear the words.
“If you want to wait, I’ll wait but–”
“What’s the other option?”
He pauses momentarily.
“Be my girlfriend, Sunny.”
“Yes.”
“What?”
“I’ll be your girlfriend.”
I hear shuffling on his side. We’re both in bed talking to each other, and we’re both wanting the other person.
“You’re serious?”
I nod, then remember he can’t see me. “Absolutely.”
“We’ll make this work, okay? I’ll do better. I’ll call every morning and every night. We’ll do virtual dates. I’ll spend more time with you when I’m in Boston. I’ll fly you to LA to visit. Fuck, Sunny, I’ll do whatever it takes.”
“I believe you, Chris.”
“So we’re doing this?”
I don’t respond. Instead, I FaceTime him.
“Hi,” he smiles once the camera switches over to him. “Why’d you switch the call?”
“Wanted to see my boyfriend,” I shrugged.
I watched that smile grow even larger.
He was mine.
I was his.
“God, I fucking love you, pretty girl.”
“I love you, Chris.”

Every little thing you do- Part 4
Series master list
Tommy Shelby x reader
Better late than never! I hope you like this! The drama continues for a while, no warning is needed just Lizzie being a (b)witch.
Word count: 2,923
Tumblr media
Lizzie rolled her eyes subtly as Y/N walked past her with a blinder following her steps with a box full of papers. Surprisingly Tommy hired his best friend as his assistant and now everywhere Lizzie looked, she found Y/N.
“Thank you James!” She heard Y/N.
“Any time, just let me know if you need anything.” The blinder tipped his peaky cap towards her and walked away.
Lizzie found Y/N the most irritating person, always smiling, always charming everyone, always so fucking close to Tommy. And now she had to work at the company too?!
“Now that Scott is missing, are you going to start flirting with James too?” Lizzie asked with sarcasm.
Nobody knew where Scott was, he simply faded away one day and Y/N didn’t seem to care.
Y/N wasn’t in the mood to deal with Lizzie’s bullshit that day, she had been giving herself away to work, eager to payoff Tommy’s kindness. But no matter what, Lizzie had been showing a bitchy attitude towards her without a valid reason since the beginning.
“Why? Are you jealous?” Y/N retorted immediately and pretended to focus on the folders with the licenses information, she needed to organize those.
“You think you’re so smart and with that innocent look you can blind men.”
“That’s what you think hmm? Well, even if that was the case… it’s none of your business.”
“And whose next? Tommy?” Lizzie placed her hand on her hip, twisting her lower lip down.
Y/N felt like actually having a little fun. Polly told her Tommy had sex with Lizzie occasionally, not like an official thing, but apparently Lizzie’s feelings got in the way at some point.
“Oh… wait you don’t know the latest gossip darling?” Y/N fixed her eyes on Lizzie’s paled expression. “I’m living in his house… Arrow House, it’s a fucking palace if you ask me.”
Y/N’s statement was a direct punch into Lizzie’s gut, anger and discomfort was so evident in her expression.
“Are you Tommy’s new whore?” Lizzie asked loudly not realizing that Tommy was behind her.
“Elizabeth Stark!” His voice resonated around, making Lizzie jump.
His jaw clenched and he threw his secretary a death stare that could turn her into stone. Y/N knew of his bad temper and his violent reactions -never towards her of course-, but deep down she felt bad for Lizzie.
Pacing between them, Tommy took a few more steps until he stood next to Y/N.
“I want everyone around.” He rubbed the cigarette over his lips, but refrained from lightning it because he remembered it made Y/N sick. “RIGHT NOW!”
As he saw other secretaries and blinders gathered around, as well as his family, he took a deep breath.
“I haven’t got the chance to properly introduce Y/N… she’s my assistant now.” He explained with a serious tone. “But if anyone…” Tommy then fixed his eyes on Lizzie, “dares to say anything bad to her, point a fucking finger, question her integrity or whatever the fuck you do. In that very moment, you’re fired. And I’m no joking.”
The people gave him a few nods and nervous stares.
“Are we clear?” He shouted then, to make his point valid.
A chorus of yes was heard around as people started to move.
“This is a warning.” He explained to Lizzie directly. “Next time you cross the line, and you’re out.”
Lizzie stood there petrified, not knowing what to say or do.
Then, when he turned around to face Y/N, his expression went completely soft again. The difference was evident.
“Y/N your grandma is waiting in my car, I’m taking you two somewhere.” He explained holding out her coat.
“Oh!” She rushed excited, leaving Lizzie fuming.
“Jealousy will take you nowhere.” Polly pointed at Lizzie, lighting a cigarette.
“I’m just so done with her, I can’t stand her!” She exploded clenching her jaw.
Polly studied her, then leaning against the desk, she finally asked; “what’s your problem? Y/N hasn’t done anything to you.”
Lizzie rolled her eyes and scoffed in discomfort. Y/N was always in the middle, always got Tommy’s attention, she made him smile, he looked after her all the fucking time!
Shaking the ash from her cigarette, Lizzie picked some folders from her desk.
“I don’t like her, alright?”
“You’re jealous.” It wasn’t a question.
Lizzie took a few seconds to answer the Shelby matriarch.
“I keep him satisfied… isn’t that enough?”
For an instant, Polly felt pity for Lizzie. “Believe it or not… that’s not all that Thomas is looking for.”
The green-eyed woman stared at her confused. So Polly continued.
“He had always dreamed big, he always wanted what he didn’t have growing up… he wants his own family, wants to make things right.” She explained.
“So there’s something going on between them?” Lizzie asked, the air escaping her body.
Polly stopped walking and slowly turned around to look at the secretary. “What? Of course not, they’re like brother and sister.”
Lizzie blinked a few times, confused. “I don’t understand.”
With a sigh, Polly told her it wasn’t her place to say anything and left. Y/N would decide if she wanted to share the news of her pregnancy and with whom she chose to do it.
“What did you tell Mum?” Y/N asked in the vehicle after greeting her grandmother with a tight and comforting hug.
She winked at her granddaughter from the front seat. “That I was going to the market.”
Tommy grinned listening to their talk, a moment later they arrived to the Garrison and he guided them to the private booth, so they would be able to talk freely.
“Harry would you prepare the kettle? Y/N and her grandma will need some tea.”
“Right away Mr. Shelby.”
Y/N’s grandma looked around, she had never been in a place like this, where men went to have a drink.
“You look pale my darling,” she stated giving her granddaughter’s hand a squeeze. “Is she eating well Mr. Shelby?”
“Oh, yes… you know, she’s a bit stubborn at times.” He chuckled. “You’re more than welcome in my house you know that, right?”
Y/N’s grandma touched his arm in gratitude. “God will pay you back in blessings.”
“Yes, Tommy won’t let me lift a finger, he got maids, someone that cooks and a driver. Can you believe that grandma?”
Her grandma looked at him in shock. It sounded like Tommy belonged to an upper status now.
“If you want to see Y/N, just ask any of my men to take you.”
Y/N looked at him with her eyes full of gratitude.
“Grandma…” Y/N stared at the cup of tea Harry brought, then she gave Tommy a quick glance.
“I’ll be checking the numbers of the pub. Alright?” Tommy offered to give them space.
“Thank you.” She saw him disappear, the noise from the pub filled momentarily the room.
“How are you feeling my dear?” Y/N’s grandma asked, worry installed in her eyes.
“As good as I can be,” she looked down, “the Shelby family had been looking after me and the doctor says everything is fine with the baby.”
“Oh that’s wonderful news.” The elderly woman celebrated. “But the sadness is still there, in your eyes.”
“I’m trying to be strong, but I can’t help but think I shouldn’t have been so naive, I thought Scott loved me.”
“I’m not going to lie to you dear, I always thought you’d end up falling in love with someone else.” The hint of a smile decorated her lips.
Y/N frowned.
“What do you mean?”
Her grandma shuddered. “Someone better, with a bright future.” She explained but kept the rest of her thoughts to herself. When she turned around, Y/N saw Tommy pouring some beer through the small window.
“But now it’s too late to think of that, I’ve to focus on this baby first.” Y/N murmured absently.
Y/N could feel the weight of the world on her shoulders. Part of her wanted to be optimistic and the other part needed to be realistic. Things would be different now.
“Can you ask Tommy if he knows a good lawyer?” Her grandma’s words caught her attention, but before she could ask if everything was alright, she spoke again. “I’m going to change my house under your name, but I don’t want anyone to learn this.”
The gesture touched every fiber of Y/N’s body and her eyes watered immediately.
“Oh grandma…”
“No, don’t thank me.” She warned. “When the time is right, you’ll need something to be yours.”
Dabbing the corner of her eyes with a napkin, Y/N stood up to give her grandmother a hug. “I don’t want you to worry anymore.” She added.
Y/N allowed her grandma to comfort her, feeling her heart full at the moment. And then she started sharing how good she felt now working at the Shelby business. Before they realized, time had passed and they thought it’d be better to take her grandma back home before it got dark.
“I’ll get Tommy.” Y/N informed standing up.
“Wait… I got something else for you.” Y/N’s grandma stated solemnly, producing a cloth from her handbag.
When Y/N opened it, she shook her head. “I can’t take it, it’s your money.”
“My darling… you will need it for the baby.”
“Don’t worry about it, thankfully I’ve the salary the Shelby family is paying me.”
Her grandmother shook her head profusely. “Either way, keep it in case you need it.”
“Thank you gran… it means the world to me.” Y/N stood to round the table and give her grandmother a tight hug. “You’re not mad?”
The elderly woman frowned and asked what she meant.
“Well you know… that I didn’t save myself until marriage?” She asked ashamed of her actions.
“Sweetheart, I’ve seen worse. It’s not my place to judge you.” Her grandmother caressed the side of her face. “What is it darling?” Worry was evident in her gaze.
Y/N was t able to hold it together any longer, tears started rolling down her cheeks.
“I feel like I failed my parents, you… I-I’m sorry.”
Y/N’s grandma wiped the tears away.
“Stop thinking that. A baby is always a blessing.”
“But grandma what will I do?”
“Whatever you need to do for this baby, it’s something you’ll only discover once the baby is born, a strength unknown will keep you above the water.” She stated wisely.
Tumblr media
A few days later a sudden sound startled Y/N. When she looked up, she found Polly staring down at her.
“What are you bloody doing down there?”
“I’m organizing the races licenses.” She replied from the floor, papers scattered all around her.
“And the desk isn’t big enough?” Polly arched her eyebrows. “Don’t answer that.” She added after taking a look at the folders.
Lizzie took a turn but stopped abruptly when she found Polly talking with Y/N.
“Uhmm Tommy left these papers, said it was important for you to sign them.”
“Oh I forgot!” While she was signing the papers, she had some news to share. “Make sure to finish this, because you and I are going shopping this afternoon.”
“Polly you know I can’t, I’m trying to save money.” Y/N blushed in embarrassment.
“Don’t be ridiculous, I’m not saying you’ll be spending money.” When she saw the face Y/N made, she interrupted her raising a hand. “I don’t wanna hear it.”
And with that, she clicked her heels to go into her office in the opposite hall.
Y/N stared at her, Polly was glamorous, she oozed personality and had a charming character. A light blood as Esme called her.
Lizzie looked at Y/N up and down, there was no way she could afford the clothes she was wearing. Taking a sip of her tea, she thought of what to say. She needed to be careful because Tommy had already give her a warning, but she couldn’t miss an opportunity to annoy her, poor little helpless Y/N… but Lizzie also knew she wasn’t going to run to him and tell him every time they talked.
“So you’re living with Tommy huh? That’s new… do the maids have to call you Mrs. Shelby?” Dabbing the lipstick she just applied, she gave her another look. “He can be generous when he wants, but seriously I don’t understand what kind of relationship you have if you’re living together but you aren’t a couple?” She spat bitterly.
“No offense Lizzie, but honestly? You’re the last woman I’d go after for an advice.” Y/N felt a bit tired, some nights it was impossible to sleep, worry and uncertainty was keeping her up.
“Well, you’re missing out then… because between us? You’ll never guess who’s taking me for a date.”
Y/N wanted to laugh at her words. A man dating Lizzie Stark. But a voice deep inside her made her shut up, because well… she was pregnant without being married. So she decided to play her game.
“Really? Enlighten me.”
Lizzie raised an eyebrow and gave Y/N a wicked smile.
“You know what? I don’t want you to ruin this for me.” She shook her head.
Y/N frowned, why would she ruin her date? She didn’t even care. Lizzie playing the mysterious woman was the most boring thing in the world and if she thought that would make her ask anything else or beg her to say her new lover’s name, Lizzie didn’t knew her at all. Y/N had enough at the moment to stick her nose in someone else’s business.
Lizzie rolled her eyes when Y/N didn’t commented anything further and walked with the folders to the safe.
She wanted to rub in her face that she was dating Angel Changretta. Whatever dating means, they were having wild sex, and Angel had said a few times that he didn’t care about her past. He took her out in his car and drove her back home, not like Tommy he only took her against the desk and didn’t even dare to take her clothes off, he just used her and lately he didn’t even looked at her.
Angel was her ticket to a better life.
Y/N locked the safe and returning to her desk, she found Tommy leaning against the window.
“What are you doing here?”
Y/N gave him a confused look. “I work here?”
That earned a laugh from Tommy. “Thought you we’re heading out, shopping.”
“Yes but later, once I finish my shift.”
Pointing at the hall, he let her walk first. “I need to ask you for a favor.”
That caught her attention and she looked at him intensely. “Anything.”
“Do you remember all those times we talked back then about how we dreamed of doing something together to turn everything around?”
Y/N nodded. “Because life was never fair.”
“How we were always missing opportunities because everything was so damn hard?” Tommy continued, his mind going back in time to a day when they didn’t allowed them in school because his old uniform had a hole in one of the knees and Y/N’s mother couldn’t afford the new books, so they skipped classes and went to the river to swim.
“You always said if it was up to you, you’d do everything completely different.” Y/N remembered all too well.
“I’m planning to open an institution for the kids in need.”
Her eyes sparkled with admiration. Tommy’s generosity didn’t know limits and it spoke volumes about the real man he was.
“How can I help?” She jumped in right away.
“That attitude will make you conquer anything.” Tommy pointed at his friend with a smile. “Whenever it’s possible I need you to lead this project. It’s ambitious but I’ll give you all the people you will need to materialize it.”
“Yes! Of course!” She oozed the excitement. “Education it’s the key for a better future.”
Tommy pouted, letting her words sink in. “You’ll need to make that the slogan.” He chuckled.
“I can scout the children who lost their fathers by the war, they probably were forced to drop school to start working.”
Tommy relaxed his shoulders, pleased with the way Y/N understood what he wanted.
She then continued, now pacing around.
“And the boys and girls whose fathers work at the factories, long hours they’re probably left at home by themselves… what about a program after school? We could offer them tutoring or different courses like knitting for girls and carpentry for the boys.
“Free tuition and uniforms.” Tommy added.
“We could add a jar by the bets table so people can donate here too.”
“Lizzie had some properties already, I’ll tell her to give you everything, check them out and tell me which one you think would work better.”
“Tommy this will make a huge difference, you can’t even imagine the impact.”
“Excellent, now… leave that.” Tommy tipped his head towards the papers. “Find Polly and go already,” he instructed and then produced something from his pocket.
“Tommy I can’t accept this.” She was shocked by the amount of money he was handling her.
“You can, and you will because it’s a gift for the baby. Now go, because I need to smoke.”
One of the secretaries walked past them, it wasn’t her original plan, but she heard their conversation accidentally.

"I should have him killed," Tommy said as soon as Robert left the room, but you bristled at the suggestion.
"No, Tommy, you can't do that!" you objected. "This is all my fault, I know that and I will find a way to fix this," you promised gravely, eyes pleading for Tommy to reconsider. And, even though you too knew the full weight of your actions, somehow your heart didn't feel heavy, not yet. Instead, you still felt the euphoria of being with him: the exhilarating feeling as though his love was an intoxicating drug that coursed through your veins.
"Relax. I wasn't serious," Tommy conceded, softening his expression as he observed you, although he knew well that, by keeping Robert alive, there was always a risk the truth could inevitably bubble to the surface.
"I'll make sure he never breathes a word about this though," Tommy promised, his voice firm and his eyes hard and you nodded silently, still reeling from what had just happened.
" Tommy," you eventually whispered meekly after almost three minutes of silence, your heart pounding as you reached for his hand and he took it in his own, his grip warm and steady.
"Yes, Love?" he asked, intently focused on your expression.
"I don't want you to marry Lizzie," you admitted quietly, your heart still reeling from the whirlwind of emotion that had swept through the room.
Tommy let out a sigh, releasing your hand as he turned away and paced toward the large fireplace at the far end of the room.
Gripping the mantlepiece with white-knuckled intensity, he spoke in a low growl towards the flames dancing merrily within the hearth.
"Love, it's already done and it's for the best, eh" he insisted. "I can't call off the wedding and I most certainly can't be with you, no matter how much I want to," he added, his voice thick with regret.
The air in the room became heavy, filled with unspoken emotions that weighed down on you like a poorly fitted corset, squeezing the air from your lungs.
You searched his face, trying to find any kind of warmth that could hint at the love he said he felt for you, but his gaze remained fixed on the fire crackling within the hearth.
"I can't just forget about us though," you admitted softly, taking a tentative step towards him as if approaching a caged lion. "I read the letters," you told him with tears in your eyes.
"Yes, the letters I never send to you for a fucking reason," he snapped, his disappointment written clearly across the hard lines of his handsome face. "You are my goddamn niece for fuck sake!"  Tommy thundered, spinning around rapidly and taking a step towards you. The blazing fire behind him illuminated his sculpted face, casting deep shadows across his features as he looked at you with an expression that swung between despair and frustration.
"But we didn't know when all of this started between us,"  you protested quietly, maintaining the fragile connection between you.
"Does it fucking matter now, Love?" Tommy ground out, his voice a rasp of gravel and anger as he stared down at you.
You trembled under his gaze, those blue eyes that could both soothe and incite fear burning with an intensity that left you wanting to surrender, even as your heart screamed at you to run.
"Society won't care about whether we knew or not. No one would ever fucking marry us and I certainly won't get into the House of Fucking Commons if it was to be found out that  I fucked my own niece," Tommy growled, his body rigid with tension.
"I cannot change the fact that we are related, and I cannot change the fact that I want you more than anything in this world. But it doesn't fucking matter. We just -," Tommy began, only to be cut off by your lips on his.
"Shut up," you whispered, your voice thick with desire.
You wrapped your arms around his neck and pulled him to you, kissing him deeply. You could feel the tension in his body, the way he hesitated for just a moment before he kissed you back, his lips devouring yours with a passion that took your breath away.
Tommy's hands were on your waist, pulling you closer to him. You could feel his arousal pressing into you, hot and hard. His fingers dug into your hips as he lifted you up onto the desk, spreading your legs apart.
"I don't want marriage. I don't even want you to admit, in public, that you have feelings for me, but I want to be with you occasionally and I don't want to fucking share you," you panted, your voice shaking with desire as his hands roamed your body.
"Y/N, we can't do this," Tommy groaned, even as his lips found your neck and his breath ghosted against your skin. "But I can't fucking keep my hands off you either," he admitted, the words like a confession against your heated flesh. "What are you doing to me?" Tommy breathed, hands gripping your hips so tightly it was almost painful. But you reveled in the knowledge that you had this effect on him, a man who was so in control of everything around him, reduced to a panting, pleading mess of sensations.
You arched your back, breaking the kiss as you reached upwards, unbuttoning his shirt again. The strong lines and shadows of his chest unfolded before you like an illicit gift and you couldn't resist running your fingers over his skin, feeling the thrum of his heartbeat under your touch.
"I need your cock inside me , Tommy," you demanded, biting your lower lip as you looked up at him with a hunger that he mirrored in his eyes.
He groaned at your words, low and deep in his throat, his blue eyes darkening with desire as they locked on you.
You reached down to pull your skirt up further, exposing yourself to him as he pushed his trousers down and stood between your open legs, his throbbing need evident of its fierce desire.
Tommy's hungry gaze never left yours as he pushed into you in one sharp movement.
Your head fell back with a gasp, his name spilling from your lips as you welcomed him deeper inside.
You were wet and ready, the slickness coating his length as he filled you completely. The feeling was indescribable; pleasure mixed with guilt and longing that made your heart race and your mind whirl with emotions.
Tommy's eyes blazed with lust as he gripped your hips, his fingers digging into your skin as he moved within you.
"Jesus Christ, Y/N," he groaned, his breath hot against your neck. "You feel so fucking good."
Despite the cold air in the room, sweat beaded on both of your brows as you matched his thrusts, your bodies moving in perfect harmony. The desk beneath you creaked and shifted with each harsh movement, but neither of you cared. The world outside this room didn't matter, only the two of you and the primal connection between you until, finally, you reached your high.
"Oh my fucking god , Tommy!" you screamed as your orgasm tore through your body. His name tasted sweet on your lips and you relished in the feeling of his fingers digging into your skin as you clenched around him. "Yes, yes, just like that," you gasped, your head thrown back and eyes closed in pleasure as he drove into you harder. Tommy's movements became more frenzied, his control slipping as he chased his release.
"Fuck , Y/N," he growled, his voice nothing more than a guttural rumble as his hips snapped forward. "You're going to make me come so hard."
His words sent a shiver down your spine, igniting the flames of your own renewed desire.
You clenched around him, milking his cock with your thighs wrapped tightly around his waist as he continued to piston in and out of you until, finally, he stilled.
Groaning even louder than before, Tommy emptied himself deep within you, seed dripping from your still-quivering entrance as he fell forward, resting his forehead against yours.
His breaths came in short pants, and you smiled as his cock twitched in the aftermath of its climax within your warmth.
"Fuck I love you," Tommy muttered, eyes drifting closed as a sigh of pure ecstasy passed through his lips. He shivered against you.
"I love you too,"  you whispered back, the warmth of your breath brushing against his cheek, causing goosebumps to rise up all over his body.
You sat and stood there for a moment, completely intertwined with one another, your chests heaving in sync. The only sound in the room was the steady beating of your hearts and the labored breaths leaving your lungs.
You looked up at Tommy and noticed the satisfied, blissful expression on his face that you had put there.
His hair was slightly damp with sweat and stuck to your forehead as his body relaxed against yours on the desk. The satisfaction that warmed you up from the inside, knowing that you had done this to him, was unparalleled. You loved seeing him lose control, even if it was just for a moment in time. After a few moments of post-sex silence, Tommy slowly pulled out of you and stood up straight. His body glistened with the sweat of exertion and desire and he couldn't help but smile at the sight of you draped over his desk, thoroughly fucked.
But the smile quickly faded as reality came crashing back down.
"We can't keep doing this, Love," he muttered, tucking his shirt back into his trousers and doing up his belt. "I am getting married tomorrow," he reminded you, causing you to nod.
"I know," you replied softly, still catching your breath. The feeling of emptiness as he pulled out of you was a stark reminder of the cruel reality. "I know it's wrong, Tommy."
He leaned over the desk and kissed you gently on the lips, a small promise that he would always protect you.
As you pulled your skirt back down and fixed your hair, Tommy took one last look at you before turning to leave the room. The silence of the study felt heavy and charged, and you couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness in your chest.
You watched as he walked out of the room, leaving you alone in a state of blissful satisfaction, and the chilliness of the room brought reality crashing back down around you. You knew that this moment couldn't last forever, but it was something that you would cherish nonetheless.

a steve with fem reader fix might just cure me. maybe inspired by the song in agreement by lizzy mcalpine? i love your writing :)
ty sm!! sorry this took me a bit, i’m planning a trip for this summer n i’m so so stressed 😭
(1.5K) (cw: fem!r, mentions of sex)
“What’s his name?”
The bed squeaks as you roll over onto your stomach, pushing down a smile
“Steve,” you say, your voice tellingly sticky and sweet.
“Steve who?”
“What, are you gonna find him in the phone book, mom?” She wouldn’t have to. She knows Steve Harrington as well as the rest of Hawkins.
“Maybe I would,” she teases, but you think she’s half serious.
You consider spilling your guts. Your mom has heard very little of your love life before now, mostly because you weren’t dating guys you would ever take home. Steve, though…
You want to. Take him home. Not even as a pride thing (a little bit as a pride thing), but because you think he’s great, and your mom is great, and you know they’d love each other.
It all felt so exclusive, though. Girls take their boyfriends home to meet the family. Steve isn’t your boyfriend. You don’t even know why you’re telling your mom at all.
Sensing your discomfort, your mom changes her angle.
“Well, at least tell me about him. Is he nice?”
The velocity of your answer lodges in your throat and turns into a laugh.
“Um,” you giggle, “is grass green?”
Foamy chittering pours out of the landline.
“O-kay, message received,” your mom jokes. You wrap the phone cord around your finger, smiling.
“He’s so nice, mom. It’s almost irritating. He makes me sandwiches with the crusts cut off.”
“I think I’m gonna like this boyfriend of yours.” She’s obviously smiling, too. You can hear it in her voice. “He sounds wonderful.”
“Well he’s—“ you hesitate. “We aren’t exclusive.”
There’s a puzzled silence.
“He hasn’t asked?” A speck of disappointment seeps into the question. You roll back over, splaying yourself out in shame.
“Oh, he asked. Twice, but I told him no.”
A gasp. “You didn’t.”
“Yeah, I did,” you confirm, wincing.
“Well, what’s the holdup?”
“Ugh.“ The ceiling looms over you, and you track the afternoon light refracted by your mirror, thinking. “I dunno. I don’t wanna talk about it.”
“Have you guys—” A tea kettle screams over the line. “Hold on.”
Staticky shuffles and your mother’s humming serenade you while you think about her question. What’s the holdup?
It’s not Steve. When you first said no, his face had sunken so severely you almost changed your mind, because you knew he would put the whole thing on himself. The second time around, you might’ve been more surprised than he was that your answer hadn’t changed. It was just…
The sound of the receiver being picked up, and your mom’s voice interrupts your thoughts.
“Have you had sex yet?”
“Oh my god, mom.”
“What? I can’t ask?”
Shoving your face into your pillows, you teeter between laughing and screaming. You’re suddenly glad you kept all your past boyfriends a secret. You pick your head back up and press the receiver to your ear, red-faced.
“No, we haven’t,” you lie. “Steve said he wants to wait until we make it official.”
It’s not totally untrue, Steve did say that. You just leave out the part where he caved two days later.
Gone is your flush by the time your mom replies, having paused so long you thought the call dropped. A serenity coats her voice, like silk sheets after a shower—everything as it should be.
“I hope you keep Steve. I’d like to meet him.”
You both leave it at that, turning over other stones for another half an hour, until your call is interrupted by a handsome devil sneaking through your door.
“Oh—hey, mom I—I gotta go, okay? I’ll call you tomorrow?” Sunny brown eyes watch you from the threshold as you say this, enjoying your casual sprawl, your sweet pajama set. Steve soaks in the privilege of seeing you, of being invited over, and of being a call-ending arrival. The phone is barely back on the hook before he rolls over you and manhandles you on top of him. You shriek but don’t fight it.
“Hi, pretty.” Steve rubs your back in big, long sweeps, melting you.
“Mmph, ‘ey,” you mumble, face smooshed into his chest. Steve is like a furnace, constantly hot, and it’s like laying on sun-warmed sand. When he laughs, it vibrates in his ribs.
“What happened to you, baby, hm? Tired?” You nod. “What’d you do all day?”
You regale the day with minimal words, all the way up to the moment he found you.
“—‘n then called mom, cause we hadn’t talked in awhile.”
“Mm-hm, I heard,” he says, not unkindly. His fingers knead the back of your neck. You close your eyes. “You didn’t have to hang up ‘causa me, yknow?”
Nodding minutely, you slur something incoherent. Steve chuckles.
“Feels good?”
More nodding. Steve kisses the top of your head.
“Talked t’my mom ‘bout you,” you spit out, too blissed to think.
Steve stills for a split second, and then doubles down his ministrations.
“Yeah?” There’s a giddy earnestness in his voice that makes you smile.
“Mm-hm,” you hum. “I told her about the sandwiches.”
An amused rumble.
“Anything else?” He asks, and if he’s trying to disguise his anticipation he’s not succeeding.
“Mmm, yeh.” A dopey smile splits your face as Steve slips a hand under your pajama shirt to scratch your back.
“Yeah? Like what, pretty girl?” Steve knows he has you limp and pliable in his lap, and he’s trying to get as much information as possible.
“Ummm, like, how we haven’t had sex—“
“We haven’t?”
You shake your head, and then it quickly devolves into rubbing your cheek on his thick polo.
“We haven’t.”
“Okay,” Steve agrees blindly.
“B’cause we aren’t official, remember?” You look up just as Steve bites back a flinch.
“Hard to forget,” he murmurs, but he pets your baby hairs back gently despite it all. “What else did you tell her?”
“That’s all,” you tell him.
Something about Steve’s sorry eyes makes you regret not telling your mom his last name. Are you ashamed of him? Do you think he isn’t worth defending? It lights a fire, burning you from the inside out. It’s so typical of you, to have one foot in and one foot out, always ready to run away. Always afraid to emotionally invest.
That’s the damn holdup.
In a self-afflicted fury, you pull yourself back together to sit up. Steve places cautious hands on your legs, gauging your mood. Knees on either side of his hips, you fist his shirt in your hands and steady your voice.
“Would you want to meet her sometime? My mom?”
Steve’s mouth drops open. He sits up, hands gripping your thighs firmly.
“Really?”
Softening, you nod. “Really.”
“‘Course I want to. Yes,” he says, breathless. “When?”
“Well…,” you sigh. Gazing at the ceiling, you pretend to think. “I’d need you to fill out some paperwork first.”
Steve raised a dubious brow.
“What, like, an NDA?”
“Ha-ha. No, not that kind of paperwork. I was thinking some kind of…certificate of exclusivity?”
Steve blinks. “I’m so not following.”
Shifting closer on Steve’s lap, you place a chaste kiss on his lips. You can hardly contain a smile as you continue, kissing between your words.
“I dunno—“ Kiss. “—just something that—“ Kiss. “—proves—“ Kiss. “—that you’re my boyfriend.”
You seal the words with a final kiss, and then hesitantly pull back to see Steve’s reaction.
Awe-stricken, Steve is playing with the hem of your pajama shorts, a thoughtful look on his face.
“You mean it?”
When you nod, Steve’s hands come up and around your waist, pulling you impossibly closer.
“What made you change your mind?” His hands caress your back like he’s not sure if this is real, like he’s afraid to break the illusion. You shrug, nose bumping his.
“Time, I guess. I wasn’t convinced you knew what you were asking for.”
Steve kisses the corner of your mouth, and then your cheek; Moves down to nip at your neck.
“Think I came on too strong,” he agonizes into your jaw. “But you’re so good for me. I didn’t want ya t’ think I wasn’t all in.”
Golden brown hair slips around your fingers as you massage his temples.
“I am, too,” you assure him. “All in.”
Steve grins.
“Can I get that in writing?”

“Pearl? Why are you in my house?”
Pearl blinks up at Bdubs from where she’s sandwiched between the wall and the waterstream, curled up on herself in the narrow space. “Somebody destroyed all the lights in my base and now it’s full of mobs,” she says bitterly.
“It wasn’t me!” Bdubs cries, raising his hands.
“Well, I didn’t think it was you, but the way you just said that’s making me think—”
“No! I’d never! I swear!”
“...I believe you,” she says after a moment, and Bdubs feels himself relax. “Can I stay with you tonight? I don’t really feel like…” She gestures in the direction of her house.
Bdubs nods. “Oh, sure, for sure,” he says. Then, “Should we invite Joel over? His house got blown up too.”
“Ah, yeah, probably. Good idea, Bdubs.” She fumbles in her pocket for her communicator, eventually fishing it out. The screen is cracked. Her fingers shake as they tap against the glass.
“Are you okay there, Pearl? You look a little…” Bdubs forces his hands to tremble.
She glances up at him, face scrunching in confusion, before she lets out a small laugh. “Just the adrenaline, y’know.” She grins. “I’m red. It’s great.”
“If it was anyone else, I’d think they were being sarcastic. But with you! With you, I’m pretty sure you’re being serious!”
She giggles, hitting send on the message and shoving her communicator away. Bdubs doesn’t feel his own buzz; it must have been a whisper. “You know,” she says after a moment, “I’m a little surprised.”
Bdubs blinks. “Surprised about what?”
“That there’s still three of us.”
He laughs. “Yeah, I’m a little surprised, too! I thought for sure Joel would die today. For sure.”
“Don’t let him hear you say that.”
“Oh, no, never. But between you and me… that guy’s kind of a loose canon!”
She snorts. “Throwing stones from glass houses, there, Bdubs?”
“Surely I don’t know what you mean.”
“Mhm.” She pauses, eyes glancing down to where her fingers pick at a stray thread on her hoodie sleeve. “That’s kinda what I mean, though. Joel doesn’t live here, and you’re making friends with half the server, I’m surprised I’m not spending tonight alone.”
“Pearl…”
“What?” She snorts. “I know how these games go, Bdubs. People don’t stay loyal. Not for long, anyway.” She glances up at him, eyes half obscured by her hair. “People like Joel, people like you? I know how this ends.”
And Bdubs—
Well, he can’t pretend he doesn’t know what she means. Can’t pretend he doesn’t remember Impulse yelling as Bdubs’ arrow had found home in his throat. Can’t pretend he doesn’t remember Etho backing away when Bdubs had tried to get just a little too close. Can’t pretend he didn’t fight when he promised he’d run. Can’t pretend he hadn’t taken advantage of his broken home.
…He can’t pretend he doesn’t remember telling Martyn about their plans, or planning to do harm to Etho. Can’t pretend he doesn’t cross his fingers behind his back every time he makes a promise, just in case.
But at the same time, he remembers—searching for Cleo in a castle she’d been too dead to return to, pushing Lizzie to her death for a life he’d never received, taking two hands in his own and vowing to face the end as four instead of two, for once, for once in his life, choosing three and being pulled apart because of it—
Bdubs lets out a breath. “Pearl, hey, no,” he says. “I told you, didn’t I? I’m your weapon.” He gets down to his knees, lowers his head before her, feels her gaze burn into the top of his head.
“Bit late for that,” she says. “I’m my own weapon now, mate. Don’t need you to attack for me anymore.”
“Well, no—but—” He looks up at her. “Pearl. I’m yours. I promise.”
“Right. And you’re Martyn and Etho’s too, huh? We can share.”
“I’m using Martyn!” he protests. “That’s—that’s all it is—I’m usin’ him because he’s the first red and he knows his stuff! And Etho—”
“I don’t mind about Etho,” Pearl interrupts. “Like I said, I know you guys have your little thing going on. I don’t care about that.”
“I set a trap in his base,” Bdubs blurts.
Pearl blinks at him. “Excuse me?”
“I set a trap in his base. Tripwire hook.” He grins. “Right outside the bedroom. I—I think I got Grian, in the end? But—could have been Etho. I coulda—could’ve been Etho.” He swallows.
“And you’d have been okay with that?” Pearl asks, smile gone from her face, expression suddenly very serious.
“I—after I set it, I went up to them. Had a chat. Lied the whole time. I coulda—coulda told him. I didn’t.”
“And you’re okay with that?” she stresses.
She sounds dubious. Bdubs can’t blame her. He feels sick, swallowing back the bile that’s building in his throat.
“I—Pearl.”
“Bdubs?”
“I learned my lesson, Pearl. I learned—don’t put all your eggs in one basket! Because—because either they die, and then you get left alone, or—or it gets you killed, and you die. You gotta—I have two hands. I can be loyal to multiple people. But then I learned—when you do that? People aren’t loyal back. They don’t trust you anymore. Nobody else…” He laughs. “I feel like I’m the only one who can trust people like that anymore!”
“So…” She frowns. “So you’re making friends with everyone so you don’t get betrayed or left alone?”
“Exactly.”
“And you know none of us are gonna trust you for doing that.”
He swallows again. “Yeah, I know.”
“And you’re doing it anyway?”
“Well, what else—what else am I supposed to do? I can’t… I can’t go back, Pearl. That’s… I can’t go back. You know how it is.”
“…Yeah,” she says quietly. “I’m—I want you to win, Bdubs,” she says. “Out of everyone—I want it to be you.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah. So… You better not make me regret this.”
He blinks at her. “Regret what?”
She bows her head to him. “I’m your weapon,” she says, an echo of his earlier words. “And a bit more of a dangerous one at that.” Her smirk leaks back into her words as she glances up and winks at him. “So use me well, alright, Bdubs? I want you to win this.”
Bdubs’ heart is in his throat. He swallows it back down. It burns.
“I’ll do my best,” he promises.
The door slams open, startling them both out of their skin.
“Hey guys—uh. What are you doing?”
“Oh, for—Judas Priest, Joel, learn to knock!”
“You invited me over! Or, Pearl did—hey Pearl.”
“Hey,” Pearl says. “Come on in! Sleepover at Bdubs’ time.”
“I can’t believe this is the last of our bases left standing. It’s, like, the worst one.”
“Hey!”
“There’s no space in here!” To punctuate his statement, Joel slumps down against one wall, kicking Bdubs in the ribs as he does so. Bdubs grunts. “See?”
“It’s definitely not the most spacious…” Pearl acquiesces.
“Anyway. What were you guys doing before I came in?”
“Swearing loyalty,” Bdubs says.
“Oh.” Joel blinks. “Do you need me to do that? Because I’m a Mounder for life. Loyal to the end.”
Bdubs and Pearl glance at each other.
“Somehow I actually believe him,” Bdubs stage-whispers, and Joel squawks in offence as Pearl barks out a laugh.
“No, I think you’re good,” she says. Leaning her head back against the wall, she says, “This is probably our final night.”
The three of them are quiet for a moment.
“Well,” says Joel. “We gotta make it to the end then, don’t we?”
He’s looking at Bdubs. They’re both looking at Bdubs.
Bdubs nods.
“May the best Mounder win,” he says solemnly.
Joel grins.

Just A Crumb
Pairing: elizabeth olsen x reader
Tags: lizzie in the garden, just fluff
Masterlist
A/N: Just a little fluff piece I had on my mind, decided to share it with y'all! 😊❤️
You laugh to yourself as you stare at the small screen of your phone, a small shake of your head.
Tumblr media
You spin around in the chair you sat in just outside the house, on the patio. It was a beautiful day, your skin was soaking up the sun all morning. Your eyes search in the garden for a particular woman, a smile on your lips as you spot her brown hair.
As you pull up the camera and zoom in, you call out to her, "Lizzie, you doing okay, sweetie?"
Her head shoots up as she hears her name, and you snap a quick picture. When green eyes spot yours from behind the plants, a wide grin takes over her face. Lizzie waves to you and gives you a thumbs up, bangs moving as she nods her head.
Your thumbs move swiftly across the screen as you open the blue app. In a fit of giggles, you attach a picture of your wife, who was literally in her garden at the time, while you sat there posting to strangers online, and hit the post button.
Tumblr media
The replies and likes poured in, and you couldn't help but laugh and even blush at some of the comments. You enjoyed moments like these online, the ones where you could be playful, and everyone would be grateful and loving. You knew how much Lizzie meant to them, knew when you said "I Do" that you would be sharing her with the world.
Lizzie told you all the time, "You don't have to share me, Y/N.. you have all of me. They only see one side," with a smile on her face and a reassuring kiss on your lips.
Still, it felt only fair to share your wife with her fans since she was never online. You understood her reasoning, knew it was for the better. That's why you didn't mind sprinkling a few crumbs for the others who loved her.
"What are you giggling about over here?" A sweet voice asks from behind you, hands rubbing your shoulders. You smile and put down your phone, shrugging.
"Oh, nothing.." You speak with a mischievous grin. She knows you all too well to know it was nothing. Lizzie walks around the chair and sits in your lap, hand twirling in your hair.
"You're not a very good liar, you know that?" She chimes, making you laugh. Your hands wrap around her, and you hug her tightly.
"How can I lie to such a beautiful face?"
Lizzie blushes and hits your shoulder playfully. You take out your phone and hand it to her, showing her the tweets. The blush stays on her face as she reads through the replies, a smile on her face as she takes her bottom lip between her teeth.
"So while I'm busy tending to our garden you've been... posting pictures of me?" She raises an eyebrow at you, a serious expression on her face.
"Um... yes?" You raise an eyebrow back, watching as her seriousness fades away, a smile sliding onto her lips. Her soft hands move to your jaw, holding your face.
"You're absolutely ridiculous," she scrunches her nose, and you fall in love all over again. You lean forward to kiss the tip of her nose gently.
"You absolutely love me," you chuckle.
"I absolutely do," she giggles back and presses her lips to yours. "Now, are you going to come get your hands dirty and help me or not?" Lizzie laughs, and it's music to your ears.
She moves to stand from your lap, pulling you up with her. As she turns towards the garden, you grab her and pull her closer to you again, a soft gasp leaving her lips.
"I definitely want to get my hands dirty, but not in the garden..." You whisper as you lean forward, placing a painfully slow kiss under her jaw, letting it linger long enough for her to hum in response. "Unless you're into that?" You joke, a smirk against her skin.
You hear the sweet symphony of her laugh again as she wraps her arms around your neck. "I'm going to ignore that and let you take me to the bedroom instead," she purrs in your ear, a shiver down your spine as she bites softly on your earlobe.
You waste no time in lifting up your wife in your embrace, grinning widely at the happy sounds of suprise she makes as you do.
"You love me," you grin at her.
Lizzie takes a moment to stare at your crooked smile and sighs happily, "More than you will ever know, darling."
"How about more than the garden?" You ask playfully as you carry her inside.
"Hmmm," she plays, pretending to think. "I guess we'll see how well you get those hands dirty."
It's your turn to laugh, and she takes the opportunity to kiss your neck as you throw your head back. Her heart was full as she listened to your laugh, knowing her words were all play. Lizzie truly believed you would never know how much she loved you, but she would spend the rest of her life proving it to you.

Getting saved by 141 [Headcannon]
Price
Tumblr media
Disappointment but not surprised, how hard was it to stay put and don’t get kidnapped?
Made an entire rescue mission just to get you back.
Was the first face you saw when he came to your aid.
“I’ve got you Son.” Reassured you that you were alright and in safe hands.
“I’m sorry Sir, I told them about the team’s whereabouts…” could care less that you gave them information, more about the fact you were tortured for it.
Shines a flashlight in your eyes and tells you to follow it just to make sure you’re still functioning.
Is angry but not at you, likely at himself for allowing one of his own to be taken.
Will offer to carry you on his back if you can’t walk.
Patches up your wounds by himself, warns you in advance when disinfecting the wounds, “This is going to hurt like a bitch so suck it up.”
10/10, give this man father of the year. Don’t expect candy from this man, he will offer you a cigar though.
You’re on probation. Don’t even try change Price’s mind. He’ll just give you a pat on the back and apologise, “It’s for your own good, Kid.”
Checks up on your mental state daily and recommends you a military councillor.
Ghost
Tumblr media
Knight in military uniform.
Sneaks into the warehouse you’re being held captive in.
Stealthy asf, no one ever sees this man coming and if they do then it’s already too late.
Jumpscare.
If he isn’t opening fire then he’s probably throwing knives into necks.
Throws you over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes if you’re injured, doesn’t matter what injury, he’s just not patient.
Stabs adrenaline into you to keep you alive.
“You breathing, Soldier?” Gently slaps your face to keep you awake.
Will undress you from your uniform without second thought to patch up a wound so you don’t bleed out.
Sits next to you on the plane ride back to monitor your state. If you were unconscious when he found you then he’d allow you to lay on his shoulder but if you’re conscious he’ll make sure you stay that away until you’ve received medical attention.
If you’re the former then he’s probably not the best face to wake up to.
“Holy shit, am I dead?” “You nearly were.” “Because I’m seeing a Ghost.” “I still don’t find you funny.”
He definitely killed everyone in that warehouse for harming one of his own but will never admit that to you and simply just tells you, “Everything is taken care of, Kid. Go rest up.”
Puts you on probation and during that probation he’ll teach you some moves so that he doesn’t have to save you again.
Soap
Tumblr media
*Panicked Scottish noises*
Radios you over and over to try get your location, when he finds out you’ve been taken he goes into Captain Mactavish mode.
Doesn’t really make a plan, runs straight into danger. Definitely blows something up just to live up to the demolition expert title.
Would quite literally NOT tackle someone out of a window onto a car but simply will throw them out of one. That Captain Mactavish mode has its limits.
Rushes to your side and cuts off your restraints. Cups your face with his gloved hand and tilts your head back and forth to check for any head injuries. You could be staring him dead in his eyes and he’d still check your pulse.
Will fireman carry you if you can’t walk or you’re unconscious.
Clicks his fingers in your face and then asks you how many fingers he’s holding up. You look at him dumbfounded, “5…?” “Fuckin hell you need medical treatment…”
If you’re falling off to sleep then he’ll keep you awake by teaching you some Scottish slang. “So you’re telling me that Elizabeth or Lizzie is slang for…coffin dodger?” “Or old cunt.” “I will be sure to use that more often now.” “Aye but do be careful of who you’re saying it around. You know how Brits get.” “……”
Gets Price to put you on probation even if the injuries aren’t serious. He’s just not taking any chances.
Gaz
Tumblr media
“You broken?”
Panic mechanic Gaz.
Acts on his knee jerker responses to which needs Price to hold him back and keep him in check.
Threw tear gas through the vents and came through the roof opening fire. Couple of knives went through eyes, one of them nearly hit you. So much for a rescue mission.
Gaz would probably stare at you if you’re unconscious to see if you’re breathing or not. Gets up real close to your face, “Okay good, you’re still alive.” He was just afraid to be the one to collect your dog tag so he didn’t want to check your pulse.
Doesn’t have enough muscle mass to pick you up so would either drag you out of danger or let you lean on his shoulder.
Gaz is definitely the type to over bandage you, “Can never be to safe than sorry.” You looked mummified after he’s done with you.
Will let you sleep on his lap if he found you unconscious, after every 5 minutes he put a finger below your nose to check if you’re still breathing.
If he found you awake he tries his best to keep you awake, “Hey buddy, keep your eyes open or else you’re going to die.”
Doesn’t sugarcoat, tells you exactly what injuries you have, “I think your knee is dislocated, do you want me to relocate it now?” “Sergeant, please don’t.” Will relocate it anyway.
Tells you about his life story and how he got recruited into 141, “I was born at a very young age.” He really tries to lighten the mood.
Threatens to shatter your kneecaps if you don’t take at least 5 weeks off.

Tommy x wife reader: Charlie and Ruby are theirs (no grace or lizzie) and they have a few other children, in order of their ages: Charles (Charlie) James (Jamie) Edward (Teddie) Ruby (Ru)
And just after Ruby dies and Tommy finds out he’s dying, his wife finds out she is pregnant again and she is just traumatised by it as she’s lost her only daughter and her aunt-in-law and about to lose her husband too
But Tommy doesn’t die and they have a baby girl, who they name Rose Elizabeth, because Ruby loved roses and after Polly and they nickname her Posy as a portmanteau of Rosy and Polly
Hey Love,
Sorry it took forever. This one is pretty sad and I really enjoyed writing it. Hope you enjoy!
Warnings: Peaky Themes, Childbirth, Child death, grieving.
Tumblr media
Not a single dull day had passed in Arrow House. It was always loud as the children ran around causing chaos. Today was so silent you could drop a tack in the kitchen and hear it in the attic.
You lay on the floor of your youngest daughter's room. Your little girl. The grief clenched in your chest and you felt your heart miss a beat as your body twisted in on itself. You’d never felt such a loss in your life.
Now you have a baby in your stomach, your husband is going to die leaving you with three boys. You knew you should be with him, enjoy his presence while you have him here amongst the living.
How could you worry about anything after watching your daughter slip from the world just a day ago? You remember holding her hand and singing to her. Thomas holding it together just until her eyes fluttered closed before falling apart in a way you didn't think him capable of.
You sat there silently. Something deep inside you felt at peace. She was safe where she was. Polly was with her. Knowing something deep in your soul had never taken away from the way your brain and body worked.
Your body hadn’t stopped shaking since it happened. Your limbs vibrating as you lay on her pink carpet. You felt discarded like all the stuffies and dolls that lay on the floor around you. Without her to come and breathe life into you, you would stay on the carpet like a doll.
Teddie was the first person to find you. His small body came and curled up against your side. The warmth of him seeped into your icy body.
A mother could only stop being a mother once she had no children left. And you had three. This moment of sadness and grief couldn't go on for the eternity you felt it needed. You had boys to wrangle. Little Ruby adored her brothers and you knew she wouldn't ever forgive you if you let them down.
With the strength of a British Mum, you brushed the tears off your cheeks with the side of your hand. You sat up even though every selfish part of you screamed to lay back down on that carpet. To rot away to a place where you could hold her again.
“Hey, Teddie.” You whispered running a hand down the small boy’s back.
“Mum I’m hungry.” He mumbled.
“Teddie! Dad said we have to leave her alone.” Charlie was in the doorway, with his arms crossed. His tone was angry and you could swear he looked years older than the last time you saw him.
“Darling, never leave me alone.” You said giving him a serious look. His face faltered slightly as he took in your words. “I’m still a mum. And mum’s make dinner, let’s go. Into the kitchen.”
Teddie was happy and you picked him up even though he was far too big for that now. Walking down the hallway, Charlie surprised you when he opened Jamie’s door.
You sat Teddie on his favorite spot on the counter and started getting out various pots and pans.
“She’s up.” He said and your middle boy came into the hallway. Silently the four of you made it into the kitchen. Grief was creeping in all the shadows of the room as Charlie made a fire.
“Ruby isn't coming home is she?” Teddie asked. Charlie let out a sigh and pinched the bridge of his nose in the way only the eldest child could.
“No, she’s with Aunt Polly now. They live in the sky.” Jamie answered softly. You gripped the edges of the pot tightly as you pushed down the intense feelings threatening to overflow again.
The window opened and you could hear her voice on the wind that whipped around your face.
Keep Going.
That’s what you did. Death be dammed you’d made a deal with God to sacrifice and survive for these boys and that’s what you would do.
With a cracking heart you closed the window and looked around the kitchen at the boy's stunned faces.
“Please tell me you heard that as well right?” Charlie said with wide eyes.
______________________________________________________________
One dinner down a lifetime left to go.
The weeks turned into a month and the pain did not relent. You had no moments of peace only the love felt by shared grieving. Esme was always around now. All the kids lumped together in Arrow House like the days of the Changretta feud. She made sure your hair got brushed and your outfits matched.
Arthur came around every day. He kept Tommy together while they worked out all this conflict. He feels a war is coming and you couldn't imagine it could be anything worse than the one raging in your mind. Alfie stops by and tells you things that confirm it will be much worse.
Three boys, and a war.
You put your make-up on so you have a reason not to cry during the day.
You spend every evening with Tommy. You know what he is doing is important. It could change the outcome for the rest of the families on the planet. So you sacrifice your time with him and survive on the couch reading. When really you just stare into the fire wishing everything would burn up to be reborn as something new.
Three boys and one more undetermined in your stomach. Your hand rested there often. You expected to lose the baby so you didn't really think about it. If they did come into this world you prayed it would be before Tommy passed. Grieving with a baby in your stomach would be easier than grieving with a newborn. But you wanted them to meet their father, even if it was for a fleeting moment. You would suffer and survive.
Tommy finally got over himself and got a second opinion. He hated doctors and you expected him to be in a foul mood when he got back from a series of appointments in London. Alfie accompanied him back and you placed a plate of biscuits and cups of tea on the kitchen table. The kitchen was for family, but Alfie somehow managed to get an invitation out of Tommy. You were always happy to see him, but were wary of the news he often brought these days. You took a seat and he grabbed your hand and held it.  Your mind flashed back to the good old days when something so small would have sent Tommy after him in a rage.
Alfie knew better than to ask how you were keeping. Tommy finally sat down at the head of the table, he looked pale. Too pale to drive, which explains why Alfie had come back with him.
“I’m not sick.” His eyes closed and he leaned back against the chair.
“What?” You whispered.
“The f-uck-ing doctor was working for that stupid mustache piece of shit,” Alfie said his voice was venomous but his smile was unshakeable.
“You're not going to die.” Your eyes moved to Tommy and he shook his head.
“Going to have to wait a while longer to steal you away, love.” Alfie's voice was all humor now, but he knew it was time to let go of your hand when Tommy flashed him a look. The look of the old Tommy.
“I’m pregnant.” You blurted out.
“Looks like I dodged a bullet. Last thing I wanted to be raising up another little Shelby brat.” Alfie was laughing and Tommy smiled. A genuine smile.
You were happy, and then the brutal deafening sadness crashed down on you. The sheer panic of having a child hits again and the nausea has you throwing your head back in the sink. Tommy is there pulling your hair up.
“Like she would ever go for you,” Tommy said easily taking a sip of tea.
“Shit,” Alfie says from the counter near you. He gets a glass for Tommy to fill with water.
____________________________________________________________
You told Esme and you both held on to each other as you cried.
“I never thought I would say this but thank God Tommy will be alright.” She shook her head as the words strangled her. “You’ll never have to know what it’s like to raise em up with out their father.”
You both cried on the kitchen floor for a long while.
_________________________________________
The time came and you had high blood pressure meaning you had to do things in the hospital. Something that made everything a thousand times more painful. But that was your baby, and you would sacrifice and they would survive.
They kept trying to medicate you and Esme kept throwing nurses out of the room screaming at them in Romani when English wasn't scary enough. In the thick of it you kept crying out for Polly.
You didn't want these strangers to help you. They didn't care about you or your baby. They weren't family. Arthur came and spoke to Esme in the doorway for a moment. You expected news that Tommy wouldn't make it in time or that something worse had happened.
Instead, Esme handed you one of Polly’s rosaries to hold. You gripped the cold crystal beads and felt yourself split apart over all the reasons you were crying.
Tommy showed up and commanded the room with Esme. The window blew open letting cold air around the room and you could feel her love for you.
You gave birth to a little girl.
There were no pictures taken as you bawled. You got her latched on to your breast and cried and cried. The nurses kept pushing for sedation but Esme started at them and Tommy pointed towards the door. Arthur came in and read a passage from his bible for you. You're not sure why exactly but it helped. It felt like a blessing that this baby would be alright.
_______________________________________________
You brought her home the same night, itching to get out of the hospital. You carried her in and watched all your boys get excited. You handed her off to Charlie first.
“I love it when they look like grumpy old men,” Jamie said with a smile, Teddie let out a loud laugh.
“She does look like an old man.”
“What did you name her?” Charlie asked his finger tracing down the slope of her nose.
“Rose Elizabeth,” Tommy said sitting next to him placing his arm around his eldest son.
“Posy then,” Charlie said with a sense of finality.
Charlie, Jamie, Teddie, and Posy. Your heart was happy and sad at the same time.
Jamie came round and put his arm around you.
“Love you mum.” He whispered and you wondered when he got old enough to kiss the top of your head. The boys were strong like their father, and you had no doubts they were strong enough to carry you and Posy.
_______________________________________________________________
This chunk of time was easier than it was with the other four kids. Tommy took time off. Churchill had other moves he wanted to play and for now, Tommy wasn’t involved.
He’d sit while you breastfed in the night, he’d change nappies, and read stories. You watched him be a girl dad again and the pain was harsh and beautiful at the same time.
Esme helped you take down Ruby’s room. The idea of moving one of the boys to a different floor or wing of the house made your skin itch. Ruby’s room needed to be emptied.
You aired the room out and you knew that she would be happy about giving it to her sister. Esme assured you at every turn that she wouldn't be angry at you.
_______________________
Eventually Arrow House moved on. Posy was very attached to the idea she had both an Aunt and a sister in the sky watching over her.
The war came and what was left of the family did what they had to do. Thankfully Posy was there with you so you were never alone.
Thankfully when it was all over all your boys came home to you.

The moment they stepped inside, Ben was already pulling Lizzie to him, big hands possessive as they grabbed her waist, and she gasped in surprise before Beau scooped her up in his arms and threw her over his shoulder.
"Hey!" his brother protested.
"Talking, Ben," he walked to the couch. "That's what we are doing."
She couldn't even protest as he carried her away, leaving him huffing.
"I got blue balls now, you know?" he asked. "It's very serious."
"Good thing both your hands function," Dean quipped. "And you can use them."
Beau carried Lizzie to the living room, and brought her down to the same stupid couch where everything happened, placing her on his lap.
"Shouldn't I get dressed?" she asked, fidgeting in the big hoodie and little shorts she'd managed to put on.
But he placed his hand around her waist and kissed her shoulder.
"It's fine," he assured her. "We just want to talk, okay?"
The other two sat down, and she could see Ben pouting as they fell into silence, and she couldn't quite pick who she was even looking at.
"Well..." Dean spoke slowly. "Hm."
Beau rubbed her thigh gently.
"You should know," he spoke gently. "That if you don't want anything with us. That if you ever feel like this isn't a relationship you want to get into, you don't have to do so."
"We don't expect sex as rent, that's what he means," Ben crossed his arms. "Those are different things."
She nodded. Lizzie knew that already! They were good people, good men!
They would never, ever, force her into anything. She was the problem!
"I know," she assured them. "I just... I need you to know you guys don't need to do anything! You don't need to pretend for me!"
Beau squeezed her.
"Pretend?" he asked.
She looked back at him.
"You're brothers," Lizzie reminded them. "And I don't want to stand between you, I don't want you to think you have to pretend you are alright with anything I do, because I'm a guest in your house and one of your brothers might like me!"
She turned to face Ben and Dean.
"The way I feel..." she took in a deep breath. "I wish I could say one of you makes me feel this way, but it is not true. All of you do, and I know it is so wrong and-"
"Bullshit," Ben interrupted her.
Lizzie deflated and Beau stiffened behind her, his grip turning protective.
"I know, it's hard to understand," she told him. "But my feelings..."
"Not your feelings," he stopped. "Your feelings make sense. Them being wrong? That's bullshit."
He leaned closer to her, green eyes hard and so certain it made her shiver.
"I want to be with you, Dean wants to be with you, Beau wants to be with you," he listed. "You want to be with us. Everyone is an adult, everyone is sober, everyone is mentally... not too bad."
Dean chuckled by his side.
"What is stopping us?" Ben asked.
Lizzie looked an answer, but gasped when he stood, grabbed her face and kissed her.
She got wet right there and then.
Well, it wasn't like she wasn't already from being fucking in the kitchen, but being kissed by him while on Beau's lap and with Dean watching?
Yes, it was something extra.
"I thought we were here to talk," Dean spoke very loudly.
"We are," Beau growled behind her. "Do you think of anything but sex?"
But someone tugged on her shirt, pulling it up, and she gasped when Ben moved up to her tits, caressing her nipples with rough thumbs.
"Can you, when she looks so pretty when she is turned on?" he pulled back, speaking against her hips.
Beau moved under her, as if to move her away, and she stood up, pressing her chest to Ben's hands.
"Lizzie," he called behind her.
Ben pinched her nipple, tugging on it, and she moaned.
"Please," she whined.
She hadn't even cum!
"You wanna be all high and mighty, then check for yourself," Ben commanded. "Pull those little shorts, check if she's enjoying it."
But she pulled away from him, and Ben and Beau followed her with their eyes and she stood before them, and Lizzie tried her best to look sexy as she moved her hands to her shirts and pushed them down, stripping for them.
Could she make a little show with two pieces? She could try.
The three watched her silently, and she took in a deep breath before pulling off the big sweatshirt, and Dean inhaled when she revealed her ass.
Oh, he was still behind her, wasn't he?
Lizzie pulled it up and up, until her tits were out too, and tried to look elegant as she threw it from over her head.
She looked back at Dean, finding him licking his lips, and Ben chuckled.
"This is better than any strip show," he joked. "If only I had some ones..."
"Shut up, she's not a stripper," Beau gruffed.
She looked back at them, and they were all seated, watching.
Waiting for who would take the first step, maybe?
She was about to pick for them when she felt Dean's hand behind her, squeezing her ass and pulling her.
"Let me have my own share," he whispered into her ear.
Lizzie giggled, touching his face and turning around, kissing his lips and touching his chest.
"If you are going to hoard her, at least let us see," Ben complained.
Dean, though, pulled her to his lap, making her straddle him, and pulled Lizzie up to kiss her neck.
"You can watch her bubble ass as she bounces on my cock," he grabbed her hips.
She gasped when he moved his lips to her sensitive nipple, biting sweetly and sucking on it.
"Dean," she gasped.
His hand spread her legs, and she tried to arch her ass to the other boys.
She could hear the moment they saw her pussy, the way they inhaled in deep.
Lizzie's attention was taken back when Dean pushed his fingers into her cunt, and almost didn't hear as someone walked away.
Was everything alr-
"Fuck, you're still a little loose from Ben fucking you," he hissed. "Taking cock so well, baby... you didn't even wait for us to join you."
She whined, feeling her face hot.
Not like she knew they wanted to join.
"Did he make you feel good, baby?" he licked her other breast. "Did my dumb brother make you cum?"
She squirmed.
"Well..." Lizzie mumbled.
Dean stopped.
"What is it?" Beau asked, and she could hear him moving.
Dean pushed his fingers into her hair, making her fall with her head on his chest, and fucked her slowly with his fingers.
"He didn't make her cum!" he exclaimed, outraged.
Beau pinched her nipples.
"That won't do," he decided. "Not even getting fucked made her cream?"
She squirmed, basking in the mix of being paid such attention to, but being spoken over as if she wasn't even there.
Beau pulled her, making her stand up, and Lizzie gasped when Dean turned her around quickly.
"I guess we do need to do all the work here, hm?" Beau hummed, kissing her lips.
Lizzie melted into his arms and his sweet, sweet kiss, already, and just let him manhandle her back into Dean's lap, this time facing away from him.
She barely processed when the head of Dean's cock poked her entrance, and mewled when she felt the tip entering her.
"We're going to make you cum, pretty girl," he pulled out, rubbing his head on her clit before moving back and then pushing into her again.
Beau pulled his hand, and she whimpered when he rested his forehead on hers and reached between her legs, caressing her clit with his fingers.
Lizzie moaned loudly as his brother pushed in, filling her up quickly.
"Such a good girl," he praised, finger circling her clit a little tighter. "She swallows up cock so good."
She moaned, throwing her head back, and didn't have time to whine when Beau pulled away from her.
He knelt between her legs and when she looked down at him, the image was the most erotic thing she could have seen.
"Uncle Beau?" she asked softly.
His eyes connected with hers, and he leaned in close to her, sticking out his tongue and licking her clit like a little kitten.
"Just relax, baby girl," Dean put his hand on her waist, sitting her all the way down his thick cock. "Let us make you feel good."
He moved his hips under her, thrusts slow and deep, but Uncle Beau had his own pace.
His lips and his tongue were hungry on her clit, never leaving it, never stopping sucking and licking and playing with her, fast and hungry.
As if she could move at all between them as they did that.
Lizzie was so overstimulated, so overpleasured, she could only fucking take it.
"Fucking hell," Ben growled.
She looked opened her eyes, and he was standing a few steps away from them, watching them.
Dean held her down by her middle, and Beau squeezed her thighs.
Lizzie could only cry.
It was too fucking much.
"You couldn't make her cum," he spoke behind her. "We took over."
Ben huffed.
"I could!" he argued. "But you guys had to barge in before I even tried!"
Beau sucked on her clit harder, and her eyes nearly crossed.
Almost right after, Dean's cock brushed against her sweetest spot, and Lizzie cried out loud.
"Show him how pretty you can cum, sweetheart," he kissed her cheek.
"Fuck!"
Lizzie arched her hips, and gasped when he wrapped his hand around her neck, holding her in place.
She moaned in pleasure, that exact move making her cum.
When she opened her eyes, Ben had his phone up.
"Smile for the came, sweet girl," he walked closer to them.
Dean grabbed her thighs, fucking her deeper as Beau fucking devoured her.
God, she almost came again just like that.
"Please," she whined.
Dean squeezed her neck a little more.
"Cum again, pretty girl," he commanded. "Cum on my cock before I fill you up."
She did, shaking on top of him, and Beau only pulled away from between her legs when she was done.
He kissed her lips with deep hunger, holding her by her hair as Dean fucked her fast and hard on the chair, using her.
Dean moaned under her, and she could feel the moment he filled her up.
It was so warm and tick, so filling.
She couldn't even enjoy the feeling, though, as Beau quickly pulled her up.
He pulled her, taking her right to the couch, and Lizzie gasped when he tossed her with her belly down, pulling her hips up and nudging her entrance with his cock.
"You want me to fuck you now, pretty girl?" he purred.
"Oh, come on!" Ben walked to you, his phone not in his hand anymore. "You've already fucked her!"
Beau moved his cock, rubbing her sensitive clit, and she gasped as he did.
"So what?"
She was so fucking sensitive.
"Beau," she whined.
"I won't fuck a loose pussy after you are done," Ben protested. "You two have fucked her already and when it was my turn you two just stopped it."
Beau dipped the tip into her, as if he didn't even care, and she whined.
Suddenly, he was taken away, and she opened her eyes to find Ben stumbling back from pushing Beau away, until his brother put him in a headlock.
Fuck, she shouldn't find that hot.
And yet her pussy fluttered, empty.
Needy.
Dean chuckled, and she looked at him, finding him watching them, very amused.
He was very used to that, wasn't he?
"Whoever fucks me last can fuck me longer," she blurted out.
Lizzie only processed her words when they were already out, and Beau smirked when their eyes connected, releasing Ben.
"Well," he stood straighter. "Go on, Benny. Have your turn. I don't mind having some sloppy thirds."
She was flustered at his words, but Ben didn't care.
"Make sure to try and make her cum this time, will you?" Dean teased him.
He scoffed, moving to her, and Lizzie looked back at him as he caressed the middle of her back.
"Where were you?" she whined.
Why had he left?
He pulled two things from his pocket, and her eyes widened, showing them off to her.
A butt plug.
And lube.
"I had a little plan for you," he hummed. "But I think we'll have to wait, hm?"
She gasped when he felt his cock nudging her.
"I guess tonight you're going to be our little cum dump."
"Ben," Dean called.
Ben scoffed behind her, rubbing her up and down.
"She might be small, but she is a big girl, Dean," he purred. "She's gonna lose her ass virginity at some point. Why not let her Uncle Ben be it?"
She moaned, feeling completely pathetic as he teased her pussy, up and down, up and down, up-
"Please," she whined. "Uncle Ben. Stop teasing me!"
He chuckled, and she jumped when he moved his fingers to caress her ass.
"Ben!" Dean argued.
She whined.
"It's alright," she moaned. "Dean!"
Ben poured something warm against her ass, and she gasped in surprise.
"Wrong name, baby girl," he corrected her, giving her ass a slap.
Lizzie whined.
"You two are so fucking easy on her," he grunted. "She's a needy slut who loves being teased."
She squirmed, closing her eyes when he circled her with his finger, cock brushing against her entrance.
"Ben," she whined.
"Lizzie," he cooed back, mocking her.
Beau scoffed, sitting on the couch, close enough that he could touch her face if he wanted to.
"Just hurry up already," he grunted.
Ben moved behind her, and he tossed something onto him.
"Make yourself useful," he commanded. "Take a picture."
She looked at Beau, and he was rolling his eyes, but took the phone on his lap anyway.
"Wanna be filmed, Lizzie?" he caressed her hair.
Her cheeks burned hot.
"Yes, uncle Beau."
He smirked, and angled the phone to get her face just as Ben teased her asshole, pushing his cock into her cunt very slowly.
"Do you think Ben can fuck your little brains out?" he cooed.
Lizzie nodded, and he took a hand to her face, pushing his fingers into her lips.
"Pretty, pretty girl," he hummed, fucking her mouth.
Ben pushed his cock inside her more, filling her again as his finger pushed a finger into her ass.
"Look at you," Beau fucked her with his fingers. "Eyes so glazy... must be feeling so good, little princess."
Fuck, she could hear how wet her pussy was.
"You are so slicky and squishy..." Beau purred. "Must be so, so easy to just slide in there."
"I can just slide in," Ben hummed.
And he did, pushing all the way into her and making her cry out, and Beau pulled his fingers from her mouth, petting her hair a bit.
They were so fucking big, all of them.
Lizzie's brain dripped from her ears at the thought of being fucked like that every day, filled and used.
"Fuck, suck a good cunt," Ben fucked her with his finger. "Want to have you seated on my cock while I work... gonna make you warm me up."
She whined.
"Please," she begged.
But Dean chuckled.
"What work?" he scoffed.
Ben bent down, pressing his lips to her ear.
"I'll fuck you during my shows," he whispered into her ear. "I've been thinking about getting a pussy to fuck, and now I got one for free."
She moaned in pleasure.
Wait, did he work with livestreams?
"We'll see how many times they'll allow me to make you cum," he bit her earlobe. "That might teach you, hm?"
Lizzie gasped, and he pulled back, taking his cock almost all the way out and then pushing into her again.
"Ben!"
He chuckled.
"Teach me what?" she moaned.
He pulled his finger back, and when it came back, there were two of them.
"To be patient," he grunted. "And take what we give you. Maybe they'll drive the message better than me."
She moaned.
The thought of that made her feel so gooey.
Dozens... maybe hundreds of people watching her get fucked and used. Making her cum and cum until she was stupid.
His cock brushed against her sweet spot and Ben took a hand down, pinching her clit.
"Won't you love that?"
"Yes," she begged. "Please, Ben!"
He pulled his fingers out, and she gasped when he pushed the plug into her all the way in.
Before she could even react to it, he moved behind her, fucking her hard.
The way she moaned was embarrassing.
Beau put the camera on her face, missing the way his brother was using her, focused on her face.
She probably looked like the sluttiest of whores.
"Needy slut," he rubbed her clit.
Lizzie came right there, overstimulated already.
"Needy slut," he rubbed her clit.
Lizzie came right there, overstimulated already.
"Daddy," she cried.
"Fuck," Beau growled.
Ben buried his cock into her cunt, moaning darkly and cumming deep in her, filling her up.
So much cum in her pussy, God...
Beau laughed at his brother.
"Couldn't hold back, Ben?" he teased, tossing his phone at him. "Move over. I'll show you two."
He panted behind her, still, patting the plug, and she whined.
"Shut up, Beau," he grunted. "Been hard for a fucking hour."
"Yeah, yeah," his brother scoffed. "Don't let the cum out."
But Ben didn't move, kissing her back at first.
"Take care of it for me, will you, pretty girl?" he twisted the toy inside her, making her whine. "I'll start training that ass tomorrow."
Ben pulled back from inside her, but she had no time to get used to being empty, and Beau pushed his cock inside her right away.
"Uncle Beau!"
"There's my pussy, missed it all day," he grunted. "So messy, dripping out all that seed."
She moaned, closing her eyes.
"Do you think that'll be enough to breed you?" he picked her up, sitting her on his lap facing his brothers.
Lizzie moaned, her head falling back onto his shoulders.
"But we can't!" she whined.
He took his hand to her pussy, rubbing her clit.
"Oh, I've seen where that goes," Ben chuckled, phone pointed to her. "Sweet girl can't be bred by loved it so, so much."
Lizzie whined, squirming on top of him.
"But Ben!" she whined.
He clicked his tongue.
"No, sweetheart," he corrected her. "I'm daddy."
She pouted, squirming as Beau rubbed her clit.
"All that cum inside you," he purred. "I can feel how much you like it, I can feel your stupid cunt squeezing my cock."
Dean stood, walking to stand by her side, and pinched her nipples.
"Her tits are so small," he noted. "Imagine how big they'll get when we put our baby in her."
She could only moan, mind in a goo.
That couldn't feel hot. It shouldn't make her horny, it-
"Go on, baby," uncle Beau kissed her ear. "Cum for us while we breed you."
She came, crying and shaking on top of him, completely soft already, nearly light-headed.
"You're gonna let us use you just like that, won't you?" he made her bounce, Dean's fingers replacing his as Beau grabbed her hips, fucking her. "Gonna let us fill you up, fuck you deep."
"No need to find a job," Ben told her. "Just stay home, be our little stay-at-home girlfriend."
"Our girl," Beau grunted. "Now and forever."
He slammed into her hard, making her feel like her brain was just banging against the walls of her skull.
Again, she came, feeling like it would never even stop.
"I can't," she begged. "Can't cum anymore, please."
Dean pulled his fingers away, and Beau hugged her close as he used her, cumming inside her quickly as she floated in the pleasure of being thoroughly theirs.
She didn't miss the feeling of him cumming in her, and fell onto his shoulder as she kissed sweetly all over her face, shoulder and neck.
She felt someone between her legs, and Lizzie gasped when Beau pulled inside her and hands held her legs spread.
"Fuck, yes," Ben grunted from between her legs. "Look at all that cum, baby girl."
"Careful," Beau panted. "It's going to stain the couch."
"I'll deal with that," he assured him. "I've never stained it, not gonna be a first now."
She heard the sound of Dean gagging for a moment before Ben kissed her thigh and pulled back, and opened her eyes to look at them.
"Poor baby girl," Dean cooed, picking her up, and she wrapped her legs around him weakly. "Let's take you to the bathroom to clean you."
Dean was very gentle with her, never lingering in a weird way, giving her a moment to pee - because UTIs aren't nice - and fixed her hair before carrying her to a very large and very comfy bed.
Lizzie scrunched her nose at being alone, but embraced the body that first lied by her side.
"You know, your room is surprisingly clean."
She looked up, picking up on Beau's voice, and Ben squeezed her.
"What's up with all the cameras?" Dean mumbled.
She looked around, surprised to see how many cameras he had set around, capturing his bed in many positions, all with their lenses covered.
"They are off, don't worry," he gruffed, pressing a kiss to her temple. "I'm not gonna waste my time putting them away for you."
Dean scoffed, and she felt the bed dip, and relaxed when she felt him embracing her closely, only in his underwear.
"Hey," Beau called. "Where do I go?"
She opened her eyes and the boys squeezed her.
He was standing by the bed with an annoyed face.
"I'm not moving," Ben hid his face in her neck.
Beau huffed.
"Ben!" he half whined.
Dean sighed by her side, and Lizzie gasped when he lifted her and put her on top of him.
"We be the bed," he decided.
Lizzie couldn't quite complain.
Beau lied down with them, at last, and she rested on Dean's chest, feeling Beau's fingers when he started to pet her hair.
“When was the last time we all shared a bed together?” he hummed.
"Not since our balls dropped," Ben spoke into her neck.
But Dean had a different answer.
“No, it was definitely after our birthday, two years ago," he corrected him. "You were such a baby and wouldn’t get your fat ass off of my bed, and Beau was worried you’d choke on your vomit in your sleep.”
Ben scoffed.
“Hey, I’m in a strict diet, you definitely weigh more than me, fatso.”
She felt Dean moving to answer him, but Lizzie was quick to diffuse the situation, kissing Dean, then Ben, then Beau.
"Be nice to one another," she scolded them. "You're brothers."
The boys all laughed.
"We are mean to each other because we are brothers," Dean pointed out.
Lizzie huffed and they all kissed her, both her cheeks and forehead.
"We'll be nice," Beau promised. "For you."
Dean hummed in agreement.
"Right, Ben?" he raised his head.
Ben scoffed.
"Right, right."
She smiled, cheeky.
"Good, or you are never touching this pussy again," Lizzie affirmed.
Well...
"For a month," she added.
"Yes, ma'am," they agreed.

i have so many thoughts about paulkins kids. there are many options, and lucky for us, we know that paulkins exist in every universe.
in one, when paul and emma aren’t yet dating but are “intimate” emma misses her period. she goes to a doctor and gets confirmation. she panics because she and paul aren’t serious yet, but she realizes how happy the idea of having a family with him makes her. they have a daughter, addison jane perkins-matthews, that everyone calls a.j. she has emma’s hair and paul’s blue eyes, and she loves to swim.
in another universe, they don’t have a kid until they’ve been married for a few years. it took them a while to get there, with emma wanting to take things slowly and paul waiting for her no matter what, but he takes her name and they become the perkins’. when they have their son, they name him matthew after paul’s family. he’s got paul’s lighter brown hair and his blue eyes, but he still manages to look more like emma. he was made for the kitchen, and loves loves loves cooking and baking.
there’s another universe where emma and paul have twins girls, elizabeth and olivia. the two could not be more polar opposites, with lizzie being less feminine, loving soccer and sports, and livvy being so extremely femining, wanting to be a fashion designer, but they are always there for each other. the two love each other and always manage to support each other’s passions.
in another universe, they have a family of five, brianna, christopher, and freddie. bri is an artist, always painting and drawing. christopher loves to dance, and to paul’s horror joins theatre in high school. paul learns to love performances when it’s his son, seeing the joy and determination in his face. freddie loves to read, will devour a book so quickly it’s actually a little frightening. paul and emma watch their kids fight across the dining table and smile fondly.
sometimes, they don’t have kids at all. emma’s commitment issues making her hesitate, or her issues with her own parents (which i am headcannoning). maybe paul, who only ever says “kids, someday, maybe” decides he only ever felt pressured into wanting kids. sometimes only one doesn’t want kids, sometimes both, but either way they always respect it.
sometimes they take too long. paul pines for years, emma doesn’t want to label it, and by the time they’re ready, they’re told emma can’t have kids.
there’s a universe where they keep a foster home, their house a revolving door for kids who need a place to stay. they look out for each and every one of them, giving them a place to feel safe and good people to look up to.
there’s a universe where they adopt a pair of siblings who lost their parents too young, the older maddison always having to look out for her little brother michael. maddie never had time to have a hobby, or a passion, but in their safe space she can admit to herself that she wants to be a filmmaker. mike adores his older sister, and loves to play the guitar.
in one universe, they adopt a toddler who was mistreated by his guardians. harry took a while to warm up to them because of this, but they helped him adjust and recuperate and grow from it all. he grew up to be a botanist, loving learning about biology from his figurative grandpa hidgens.
basically, i just want and need happy ending paulkins who have a happy domestic little life and shit.

I chewed my lip as I stared up at the building before me. If this were any other situation, I would've turned on my heel and run by now. But there were two little girls, one on either side of me, who needed me to be strong. This was their best hope of being safe, which meant all of my stuff needed to take a back seat.
I took a deep breath, trying not to let the girls sense just how nervous I was, then started heading for the door to the bar. It was the middle of the day, so hopefully no one would mind me bringing two kids in with me.
Caroline and Ric had trusted me with Josie and Lizzie, and I refused to let them down. Some new supernatural none of us knew existed had come to town and, worse, had started going after the girls. So, I'd sat down with their parents, and we'd figured out a plan to keep them safe: take them to the bigger, badder supernatural who I used to know.
My eyes scanned the bar for the familiar face of Klaus Mikaelson, and after a moment, I found him. He was leaning against the counter talking to the bartender, and I was surprised he couldn't hear my heart beating out of my chest from here. I hadn't seen him in years, and I'd also rejected him the last time I saw him. But he was the best chance the girls had, so I was just going to have to hope he didn't hate me now.
I cleared my throat, shook my nerves off as well as I could, herded the girls into a booth where I could keep an eye on them, then turned to face the bar. I found Klaus already looking at me, his arms crossed and a curious look on his face as he leaned against the counter. A wave of emotions hit me at once, but I shoved back against the feeling, squaring my shoulders and putting one foot in front of the other until I stood in front of Klaus.
"Hello, love," he said, and my heart damn near stopped in my chest. I took a deep breath. "It's good to see you again."
"It's... it's good to see you again, too."
And it was. Most of my friends had been relieved when Klaus finally left town, and they'd freaked out the minute they found out he'd come back to see me. And at the time, I'd convinced myself they were right, and that it was better he was gone. But standing before him now, that slight smirk on his face, I realized I had really, really missed him.
"So what brings you to New Orleans?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. He looked past me to where the girls were playing a clapping game in the booth. "I take it it has something to do with them."
I sighed. "Yeah. Yeah, it does."
"And who's the father?"
Now it was my turn to cross my arms and raise an eyebrow.
"They're actually not mine. But I'd say you don't have a lot of room to judge, considering the reason you moved to New Orleans in the first place."
"Who said I was judging? I was just trying to gauge how jealous I might need to be."
I huffed a laugh, trying and failing to hide my smile by glancing at the ground. Nik grinned at me, and for just a flash of a moment, it was like nothing had changed between us since the last time I'd seen him.
But then I heard Josie and Lizzie behind me, and I remember why I'd come here in the first place. I sighed and met Nik's eyes again.
"I need your help."
His eyebrows immediately drew together, and he straightened up from the bar, taking a half step towards me. The intensity of his worried stare made my heart melt.
"What's wrong, love?"
"There's a new supernatural in town. Or a few new ones, I guess. We're struggling a little bit to deal with them, and they've made Josie and Lizzie their targets. Caroline and Ric are their parents for all intents and purposes, and we sat down and decided our best chance at keeping the girls safe is if I left with them, alone, and came to you."
"And whose idea was that?"
"...Mine. It... actually took a lot of convincing for Ric and Caroline to let me bring them to you."
A hint of a smile flickered across Nic's face as he huffed a barely audible laugh. His beautiful blue eyes met mine with the intensity I'd seen a thousand times for both good and bad moments, and it made my heart race.
"You will always be welcome here, with me. I'll keep the three of you safe."
Relief washed over me. I closed my eyes, taking a minute, and when I opened them again I found Nik still watching me intently. I thought he might lean in for a hug or a kiss or something else, but instead, he just gave me a small smile and nodded in the direction of the girls.
"Mind introducing me?"
The girls absolutely loved Nik from the first moment they met him, and he was nothing but sweet and patient and kind. He made a few absolutely ridiculous jokes that had them falling out of their chairs laughing, and had my heart melting all over again. We left the bar together, the four of us strolling through the streets of New Orleans as Nik led us to his home. He glanced over at me a few times with the roguish smile I'd come to love, and despite the fact that I'd come here on the run to protect the girls, I couldn't help enjoying this moment with him. In different circumstances, it might've just felt right.
"We're almost home, but I just had a thought," said Nik, his arm swinging back and forth with Lizzie's as they marched down the street together. Lizzie and Josie held hands, and I did the same with Josie, making us a little chain. I turned to smile at Nik over the girls' heads.
"And what's that?" I asked. Nik smiled at me, then turned his attention to the girls.
"My favorite ice cream place in the whole of the city is very close to here. Does anyone else feel like we ought to make a pitstop?"
"YES!" the girls screamed in unison. I laughed as Nik stopped abruptly, turning on his heel and then pulling us in the other direction.
"Alright, come on then!"
The girls cheered as they marched after him, and my heart soared as I followed along behind the three of them. I'd gotten to see Nik like this every so often in Mystic Falls, but a lot of our interactions were colored by whatever drama he and his family had going on with my friends and I. Being with him, like this, and seeing him being so amazing with the girls was seriously doing something to me.
"This place really does have the best ice cream," Nik assured me as we stepped inside and joined the line, the girls bouncing excitedly in front of us as we stood shoulder to shoulder. "Hope loves it."
"Hope... how is she? How's... how's Hayley?"
Nik smirked. "They're both good. We've had our rough patches, but Hayley and I have found our rhythm as coparents despite not being together."
I released a breath I hadn't realized I'd been holding, and Nik laughed.
"Now look who's trying to gauge their jealousy."
I rolled my eyes, but couldn't hold back a grin all the same.
"Whatever. But... you're happy? Being a dad, and being here, and... and everything?"
The corner of Nik's mouth quirked up, but the smile didn't reach his eyes.
"Like anything, it's had its ups and downs. But I wouldn't trade Hope for anything in the world."
I nodded, and the two of us fell into comfortable silence as we worked our way through the line. The girls were ecstatic to try their cones, and Nik recommended his favorite flavor to me, which lived up to the hype he'd promised. The four of us wandered slowly the rest of the way to our destination, which turned out to be an absolutely massive compound in the middle of the French Quarter.
Nik pushed open the door and led us inside just as the sun began to set outside. I came to a stop in the beautiful open space just inside the front doors, staring around at it in awe.
"C'mon, love," Nik said gently, resting a hand on my back and guiding me in the direction of the stairs. "Let's get the girls settled in for the night."
I just nodded, putting my focus back on the girls as we followed Nik through the massive compound. He pushed open one of the many doors along the second floor, letting us into a bedroom with two beds. I even spotted a few kids books on the shelves to one side of the room.
I slid my eyes to Nik with a raised eyebrow, but he just shrugged.
"For Hope, and any friends she might decide to bring over when the time comes. No reason to not be prepared, especially since we have the space for it." The corner of my mouth tugged up into a smile, that warm feeling spreading in my chest again. "I'll bring a few of her pajamas in, they should fit these two alright."
"Thanks."
"Of course, love."
Between the two of us, Nik and I managed to get the girls settled down and in bed in under an hour. They'd had a long, tiring day, after all, and if I weren't practically jittering with nerves after the afternoon I'd spent with Nik I'm sure I would've been right behind them.
Instead, I found myself following him after we closed the door to the girls' room, going who knows where in this massive house in his new life since he'd left Mystic Falls. After a few moments, I couldn't really take the silence anymore, so I spoke up.
"Where are the rest of the Mikaelsons?" I asked, my voice thankfully even. "I'd expected to see at least one of the siblings by now."
Nik turned to give me a little smirk over his shoulder, and I hated that he could probably hear my heart race.
"They're busy with other things for the night. And Hope is with Hayley having a mother-daughter weekend away from everything. It's just us, tonight."
My heart sped up even more, although that shouldn't have been possible. After a moment, Nik led me into the kitchen and headed straight for the refrigerator. I took a seat at one of the high stools at the counter, watching him as he moved.
"I assume you still like hot chocolate more than most other drinks?" asked Nik without turning around. I smiled.
"Absolutely. I know it's been a little while, but come on Nik, I'm not a completely different person."
He paused to give me a smile over his shoulder, then continued in his hot chocolate preparations. I scratched at something on the counter while he worked, trying to get up the courage to talk about all the million things hanging in the air before us. Finally, I cleared my throat and forced myself to look up, watching Nik's back as I spoke.
"Thank you for this, by the way. For taking us in, even after... Well, even after I told to leave me and Mystic Falls."
Nik sighed, bringing our two mugs of hot chocolate over and setting them down on the counter before walking around to stand in front of me. We were barely an inch apart, but he didn't make a move to close the distance anymore. I'd set a boundary the last time I'd seen him, and he clearly had no intention of crossing it.
"I will always be here for you if you need me, love. If you seek me out for refuge, or to change your mind and take me up on my offer to show you the world, or even because I make the best hot chocolate in the entire world and you just can't live without it... I'll be waiting."
I stared up at Nik, a slight twinkle in his eye, as I fought to keep tears out of my own. He'd truly caused so many problems in Mystic Falls. My friends' dislike-to-hate of him made sense. But he'd always been sweet and funny, patient and kind and understanding, with me. If I was totally honest with myself, I'd been starting to fall in love with him before I'd decided to side with my friends and push him away.
"Don't cry, love. It's alright," he said, his eyes scanning my face. I hiccupped, the tears finally starting to fall, a combination of all the different emotions and stressors of my past few days coming together and overwhelming me at once. I'd held it together for the girls, but now they were in bed and taken care of, so I could safely fall apart.
I leaned forward, falling into Nik's chest, and he wrapped his arms tightly around me the moment I did.
"It's alright. You're safe with me."
That brought on a whole new wave of tears, not just for the stress of the day, but for everything I'd lost with Nik, too. He just held me tighter, rubbing soothing circles on my back as I let it all out, then slowly started to calm down.
I pulled back slightly once I managed to get ahold of myself. One of Nik's hands stayed on my arm, and he brought his other hand up to gently cup my face, wiping away a few of the tears with his thumb.
"What can I do, love? Tell me how I can help you and I'll do it."
I choked back another sob, this one turning into a half-laugh.
"You've already done enough, Nik. More than enough. It's just... it's been such a long day. I feel like I've been barely holding back a complete stress breakdown for like a week, and I always had the girls with me so I had to keep it together..."
"Well then, why don't we get you settled into a room so you can get some sleep, hm? We can always talk more in the morning."
Nik started to move to help me off the stool and up to bed, but I stopped him, hands resting on his biceps. He raised an eyebrow at me but didn't move away.
"No, Nik. I don't want to talk tomorrow, I need to say this. I... I love you."
Any hint of humor or lightness dropped off Nik's face, replaced by completely serious shock. My heart was racing out of my chest, and I knew he could hear it, but I pushed on anyway.
"I think I was falling in love with you before, and I didn't want to admit it to myself. But being with you here, now... it feels right. There are a bunch of powerful murderers chasing me, trying to hurt two kids whose parents have trusted me, exclusively, with their safety, and I'm in a strange city far from anywhere I've ever called home. But for some reason I just feel... happy. Happy to see you again, happy to spend time with you, about a thousand times calmer than I was without you. You feel like home, Nik, and I love you. I just... that just feels like something you should know."
Nik's eyes had been scanning and searching my face intently the entire time I'd been talking, the slightest hint of wetness gathering in his own eyes. A smile tugged at the corner of his mouth once I'd finished speaking, and he brought his hand back up to cup my face, his thumb brushing lightly over my cheek.
"I don't think I've made it any secret how I feel about you, love," he said, voice soft and tender. "But in case you need to hear it again, I love you. Always and forever."
A few tears managed to sneak out and down my cheeks again, but this time I had a smile on my face. Nik's expression mirrored my own.
"Once... once all of this is over, do you think... well, maybe I could come back here. To New Orleans, once the girls are safe back home. That is, if... if your offer to follow you to New Orleans still stands from the first time you extended it?"
Nik beamed back at me. "I can honestly tell you that absolutely nothing would make me happier."
My smile grew to the point of pain as I stared up at Nik, a light in his eyes that I'd missed much more than I'd realized. I leaned forward just slightly, Nik mirroring my move as I glanced at his lips. One corner of his mouth rose higher in the troublemaking smirk that always made my heart race before he closed the rest of the distance between us, his lips meeting mine, soft at first and then with the same urgency pulsing in my heart.
I'd kissed him before, but it had always been tempered by concern for my friends, and about what they'd think. But this time, as fireworks exploded in my chest and thousands of butterflies took off in my stomach, I couldn't bring myself to care.
I was safe and happy in the arms of the man I loved, kissing him senseless. I'd missed out on a lot of times like this, but from now on, I didn't intend to let anything keep me from spending every second I could just like this, friends and insane supernatural threats be damned. Always and forever.
