Alice in Wonderland is a 19th century fantasy novel by Lewis Carroll that has been adapted multiple times in the twentieth and the early twenty-first century. The Cheshire Cat is a character from the novel, an enigmatic being associated with its uncanny grinning and the ability to vanish parts of its body. One of its most famous lines of dialogue is the phrase "We're all mad here," in reference to the insanity of Wonderland.

The above post misconstrues the phrase as meaning "angry" instead of "insane." It is common for anxious people to assume other people think about them a lot, and assume negative interactions. This is humor based on "relatability." An individual in the early twenty-first century would be aware of the Cheshire Cat and would be aware that the particular phrase is discussing insanity. The target audience for the self-deprecating joke would commiserate with the self-persecution of the anxious mind leading to easily avoided misunderstandings.

to be fair, the chronological placement of his birthday story just doesn't make any sense in general. like, it can only really take place during his second year, since Ace and Malleus are both there...yet we have seen pretty definitively what Silver was doing on the evening before/morning of his 18th birthday, and it was very much NOT his history homework. this myth?

jk jk I think it's just one of those card stories that's meant to be more...perpendicular to canon, if that makes sense? 😅 like a lot of them aren't really supposed to fit into a specific point in the timeline; instead all the characters and relationships tend to be somewhere vaguely post-episode 1 (occasionally with a bonus post-6 Ortho) except Yuu is already friends with everyone and nobody is surprised to hear them call Malleus Tsunotarou.

mostly they can get away with it, but it starts getting a bit weird with the cards that are supposed to be set at specific times. :T for those I think you gotta just kind of suspend your disbelief and take 'em as, like...little what-if AUs, or something like that! it's not exactly not canon, but more like. this is Silver's birthday if none of the narrative development happened and so his curse is still in effect, or something. 🤷 uhhhh basically Twst's timeline is an eldritch thing that cannot be perceived by mortal eyes, to try will lead to nothing but suffering, down this path dwells only madness.

that said I do 100% accept the presented canon that Silver's roommate is in eternal torment. this is the real victim of Twst right here.

Rambling but

Trey is a very subtle character. Unlike most twst memebers a lot about him isn't explicitly said. He spends a lot of his time crafting a perfect image, so an outside perspective of him is difficult to present without there being certain biases in the way characters view him (Leona expecting there to be something more to his dream before realizing no it's just him wanting to bake to his hearts content or Rook believing that he's making tarts filled with love for Riddle but he himself is doing it out of necessity.) He keeps a lot of his emotions close to his chest too so it's not like he's going to talk about it himself. He doesn't soliloquize often. If you noticed in the maze section of Riddle's dream, he barely verbalized his own thoughts about the change in leadership, it was all "cater" driving the conversation. He's introverted and worries a lot about his perception to the point that he stifles what he wants to say in favor of smiling and tentatively manipulating the situation to remain comfortable. (Which Cater points out in Book 1 but THAT got mistranslated from Cater scolding Trey to Cater scolding himself about being more honest with his opinions which doesn't help the lack of understanding that people seem to have) Because he puts so much emphasis on his normalcy, fans seem to have a high expectation for his weirdness when it's kinda been in front of us the whole time. We're not the characters. He's not trying to fool us-- we have an omniscient view into everything he does. So it's obvious looking at it that he has a habit of being smothering/overdoing things. Vil points it out in maschef that he never really gives others space to grow because he's always there to cover every mistake. He hates mustard but believes he can get over it by forcing mustard into every food he can think of until someone had to stop him from putting it in cake and eating it. He's super fixated on dental hygiene and he gets tempted to bake so many different things, purchasing recipe books for fun, before reminding himself to reel it in because making too many would make it so that there was nowhere for those sweets to go. I feel like a lot of people missed a key point of his dream and that is I think Trey feels helpless a lot. A lot of the situations he ends up in are not in his control. So that's why he dotes and placates so that he can try to keep some semblance of it. An illusion of it. So his dream is a place where he doesn't have to do all these things to keep control. He just has it. He has his freedom to do as he likes without it costing him anything. A friend, his parent's dignity, the dorm. He doesn't need to be afraid of any of it. So he allows himself a faulty degree of overindulgence because peace and normalcy doesn't hinge on him. In the real world, every cake he prepared was for peace. But this time the cakes were just cakes. They weren't secretly disguised peace treaties or white flags. In the real world each baked good is within a rule or serves a purpose. In his dream, they can just exist. Just like him. Well anyway sorry brain went all over the place.

i know the discussion in the fandom is kind of over now BUT i have brain worms so. anyways. i think what a lot of people miss in the whole "oh but Vil made Rook do x thing—" is that Vil WISHES he could make Rook do anything. yes, Rook is obsessed with Vil and would follow him into hell (i mean, he did kind of do that) but at any given moment he's also too focused on how pretty Vil's lips are to actually listen to what he's saying. that man has the worst case of selecitve hearing ever seen in a human being. Vil said "don't transfer to Pomefiore it's a stupid idea" and Rook only heard "transfer to Pomefiore". Vil cannot even get Rook to shut up and y'all think he could force Rook to cut his hair if he didn't already want to. lmao

how do all the humans take being surrounded by supernatural species? I imagine someone like Ichika would have to adjust to her childhood friends being nonhuman entities but would Ena have any particular habits she picked up from her dragon family?

Hmm honestly I havent thought about it much . Probably because I don't think I can properly ponder on how specifically each human would react (aka I dont think I know each character well enough to gauge potential reactions).

Plus cuz my like brain power is going down I'm having a hard time thinking if anyone would even have any prejudice or certain opinions against anyone else just because of the species they are.

But I guess I can say some things like:

With Leo/need being childhood friends, I'd like to think Ichika already knew about Honami being a devil and is used to it. But she'd definitely need to readjust for both Saki and Shiho. Saki obviously because she's dead, but Shiho because I don't think she'd wanna let her friends know she was turned into a werewolf (especially with their straining friendship pre-main story, and EVEN MORE so if negative rumors were being spread around) . So like they kinda pry that outta Shiho or just learn about it somehow but all is well

Kohane, funnily enough, is like the only human where both of her parents are also human 😭 She'd probably have the biggest time getting used to her group-mates being supernatural, and realizing more of the struggles they have

Emu, being apart of the (cursed btw) Otori family, has no problem whatsoever with anyone being a monster. Growing up with different species, she already understands the struggles monsters can face and just treats them like normal people. (She does have a hidden sense though to tell whether a monster is disguised or not [because a lot of monsters do actually mask their true appearances to blend in if I haven't mentioned that already], but she only uses this if she ever noticed if someone was uncomfortable and would do her best to subtly help them)

I think Ena would absolutely just pick up a lot of mannerisms displayed by her family. ACTUALLY. Really funny to imagine Ena like actually being more aggressive (like potentially getting into fist-fights aggression) if dragons usually fight and/or argue to prove themselves right/better 😭Even sillier if they had to teach her better etiquette and to actually be more human (which I mean that's probably what school does for her). But anyway Ena would just be blunt and straightforward with things probably. And like if she learned about anyone being a supernatural being she just wouldn't think of it as a big deal as long as they like respect her n all casual-like y'know

It also just dawned on me that it'd make sense if most of the humans were used to monsters and the like to some extent JUST because at least one of their parents are supernatural.

Interesting to think then, looking at it, how those of the main cast have to deal with being monsters themselves when both their parents are humans. Nobody knows what they be doin' but at least they're all accepting of what their kid turned out to be 😭‼️
