Hello everyone, I have just watched The Well and came up with a theory that torments me so now I'm going to torment you.

(Spoilers for Doctor Who Season 2 episode 3 under the cut).

So, we finally get the return of the Midnight Creature and what a return it was.

Now, during the episode, Doctor drops a lot of choice wording about this thing:

•It torments people

•It likes to play games

•It's vile

•It's a murderer

And this is just FACTS. This thing is truly evil.

Eventually Doctor manages to talk to it, and finally, after so many years, he sees what it looks like.

And he cries.

But before that, we hear it whispering. In a woman's voice.

The last time it saw him, it was possessing Sky.

My theory is simple:

The moment it let him see it, it deliberately chose to look like Sky.

Why would he only react to it saying it knew his name? Other, arguably scarier and more vicious, foes and enemies know his name, have said it to him. And he didn't cry.

But Sky. The woman he (in his view) failed all those years ago on the same planet against the same creature?

I think that would be the cruelest thing it could do to him, and it knew it.

any advice for picking fun and vibrant colour palettes that still feel true/recognizable to an object/setting/character's base colours? something about intense lighting?

During this Live we learned that ghasts:

Are biological creatures

that they have infant forms (that appear to have external gills like salamanders)

that they rely on water for their life cycle to complete

that, related to #3, they like chomping on snowballs

that they're neutral and even friendly when not dehydrated like a frog in summer

In addition to the points in the graphic:

Flat faces with the eyes at the front, like many amphibians

smooth skin

mouth that looks tiny until opened (have you seen an axolotl or caecilian with its mouth open?)

fireballs may be analogous to skin and saliva-based weapons in amphibians

has zero mercy

cannot aim at all

makes sounds quite like the axolotl when you think about it

operates on 1.5-2 brain cells at all times

... We may be able to conclude that ghasts are amphibians.

If we look at this phylogenetically, then we may be able to speculate that ghasts are highly derived (specialized) temnospondyls, which are huge prehistoric amphibians who were like 25% mouth.
