Two very unfortunate (or hilarious) things about the german version of the murderbot diaries is that not only did they manage to translate the title All Systems Red as Systemausfall (eng. system failure) when one future installation turned out to be named System Collapse, they also managed to turn Rogue Protocol into Exit Szenario (no need to translate) right before Exit Strategy came out.

#I only read parts of the german translation but some digging through obscure scifi forums #seems to confirm what I stumbled across on wikipedia #also ART is translated as Fifo? Really?#it stands for fieses Forschungsschiff (eng. mean research ship)#I am glad I read the english version but damn I’m curious #apart from the fact that they could have translated Murderbot simply as Mörderbot but went with Killerbot #I don’t mind #comparing translations of stuff is my hobby and a main motivation to learn languages actually #overall I think the translation does an okay job- especially considering pronouns #they handled those well considering german is kind of a very gendered language in that regard #but Chefmodul? getting mildly annoyed with some things in shadow generations that were references to existing games or art or whatever being treated as completely new information by people in the fandom but then i have to remember that not everyone has all the sonic knowledge that i do and that the original source for the idea of maria being the one to name shadow is a short comic that was posted to the japanese socials forever ago and never got an official english translation and isnt really talked about often in fan spaces these days and this is the first time theyre talking about the origin of shadows name onscreen in a game . so maybe its kinda reasonable that not everyone knows about all this stuff and im the weird one in this situation for assuming people do

#it is still an obvious reference to that comic though like the dialogue in that cutscene is heavily based on that comic .#none of the other stuff i have in mind is anywhere near that obscure though ...#like ''gerald was confirmed to view shadow as a son'' or ''maria is finally confirmed to view shadow as family''#we already knew those things ...? gerald calls shadow his son onscreen in the canon ending of shadow 05 #and the thing with shadow and maria . okay yeah this is the first time its directly mentioned onscreen i think #but to say it wasnt implied at all is wrong because theres character bios that say they were like brother and sister #and also gerald calling shadow his son implies that shadow was treated as part of the family in some way #sonic x shadow generations #sxsg spoilers

Close call having to explain Joker Out to my father after he remarked on how cool my laptop keys were (they glow) and then saw my screen background: a homemade Souvenir Pop themed layout. Bless this man; he couldn't read the font I used and did not inquire any further besides, "Is that a band?"

I know a lot of people here are so invested and obsessed with their interests that they HAVE to talk about them with everyone they're close with, but is there anyone who is absolutely mortified to talk to people about things they're obsessed with?

Like, I wouldn't be able to explain Joker Out well enough to him to understand why I felt the need to put this "band" as my background, ya know? And I can't even use the excuse, "Oh, I just like their tunes" because he'd look them up and wonder how on earth I found them because, genuinely, the likelihood of me ever finding them is one in a million. He'd look up their eurovision performance and have to watch Bojan lick the camera, and I'd just have to accept that. That is what stopped me from getting into them for five months after finding them. What if he got it twisted and thought I liked that?! Mortified.
