Also, The Queen's Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner has a smallish, but fairly active following on Tumblr, but it deserves the energy that is devoted to some more popular YA fantasy/historical novel series. <- All of these books are re-readable af, 10/10 no notes.

I watched The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (2018) with my parents on Netflix a couple of weeks ago. For those who don’t know, it’s an anthology film of sorts containing many different stories centred around the Wild West. My dad recommended it to me as he likes watching films made by the Coen Brothers. I don’t have a lot to say about it other than I really enjoyed it. I’m a film buff and I usually have a lot to say about the films I’ve just seen, so having that happen to me was really odd. 🤔

I don’t watch a lot of TV and I don’t keep up to date with any shows, so I don’t know if what I’ve put down counts.

I recently finished watching the Fernando (2020–) docuseries on Amazon Prime and I loved it. 🤩 It’s mainly about Fernando Alonso and the many adventures he got up to during his 2-year retirement from F1. It’s really interesting!

The last book I read was The Bourne Identity by Robert Ludlum and the last fic I read was a Chalex fic called I Can Feel The Sun On You by mintchocolatechip97.

Mr Monk's Last Case. SO GOOD I literally cried. I loved USANetwork so much as a kid and I grew up with these shows. Yes the treatment of OCD wasn't totally accurate but Mr Monk did make me feel seen as someone who, because of their brain, just can't stop themselves even when they know everyone is frustrated. When I heard they were making a movie I was so excited bc I love the Psych movies so much and I was thrilled Monk was getting his sequel too 😭.

Get a Life, Chloe Brown! By Talia Hibbert. 1, I am a slut for well written romance, 2 I love books about marginalized bodies and 3 I love supporting Black women. This book is part of a series called The Brown Sisters novels and each book focuses on a different sister's romance. It's so good! I accidentally read the third one first but now I've read 2/3. Funny and a lil freaky. I love it!!!! 10/10 would recommend but I also recommend checking it out at a library to boost circulation markers.

this was written thanks to a prompt from @inexplicablymine for @thebrownstone anniversary exchange and ive never had so much fun writing something ever. it was in the middle of a writers block and i spent SO long thinking about it (mainly bc i cant stand the movie or a certain actress on it) before i remembered my aforementioned hyperfixations on both the bright sessions and the flash (at some point i hope somebody makes a tbs x rwrb fic before i end up caving in and do it myself, even though it would be very similar to this fic, now that i think about it).

(break where i give little information about this bc the research was long and incredibly fun)

after all of that, it was so long that i spent on a google rabbit hole of researching superpowers and thinking how would it fit each person (i KNEW before anything else that i was going to give bea music powers, and after that the rest followed) so it is funny how all of their powers correlate between family and stuff and i need everyone to know about this bc i really spent so long thinking of it.

you have the mountchristen line, that has the "mind powers", starting with mary (psyren) that has the powers to manipulate minds, but it is more like suggestions, so that's why alex and bea could shrug it off and how henry would be able to after fighting his usual response of like going along whatever mary said; then you have catherine (vis) that has telekinesis, aka manipulation of objects through her mind (dont ask me about the name this one was very much just thrown out there when i looked it up suggestions on google). thats where arthur (foxglove) comes in with his ecokinesis (this is more like controlling plants but not really with his mind but like hes in TUNE with the planet and nature ala poison ivy kinda thing(?) (also yes ofc i found out there is a PLANT called FOX-GLOVE and gave it as a name for arthur. that is something he 100% would do and i dont receive criticism for it) and starts the fox-mountchristen line with philip (no i didnt think of his superhero name bc even though he is a bit redeemed here, he doesnt deserve it) and his MANIPULATION OF THE LIGHT WITH HIS MIND. and yes its cool and all, but i just want to emphasize that i wanted them to be able to MANIPULATE PARTS OF NATURE WITH THEIR MINDS BC ITS A MIX OF BOTH CATH AND ARTHUR (sjfnakdjfkahdmfhansbfmahdm im sorry i thought of it while still blocked and thought it was absolutely genius 💀💀). then there comes beautiful gorgeous bea who doesnt have a pseudonym bc she's actually part of the agency trying to control that superheroes dont do crazy stuff (yes bc of mary) and shes a badass agent and also has a band on the side bc she CAN MANIPULATE SOUND AHFNSJHSSJDJABHSNSHAJS. and lastly theres henry with his empathy and this is something not implied but more like a nod to tbs bc henry's actual powers are the manipulation of emotions which MEANS HENRY IS BASICALLY INCREDIBLY FUCKING POWERFUL but since he really doesnt like all that superhero shit, he doesnt care about it. at some point in time, he might discover hes even able to push emotions into other people, but again, since that was a nod to tbs, thats just something for them to discover in the future and thats it.

on the other hand, you have the claremont-díaz line that is messy as fuck, because in this universe, ellen enlisted in the army like her father and she ended up becoming a super soldier, along the lines of captain america, and was called "lometa longshot" bc yes ofc i had to. so you see how she doesnt have actual powers but instead she just has everything ENHANCED????; then you have oscar, who has the ability to fly, (which, fun fact, was actually the last power i thought of bc the idea of it is that oscar had some power of MOVEMENT), and bc you have impossible movement and enhancement, you get beautiful june with her powers of teletransportation that allow her to be a badass reporter and always get exclusives bc of how fast she can get somewhere; and you get alex with his undiagnosed adhd and the fire under his ass for no good reason and then there was absolutely no other choice but to give him super speed (and has nothing to do with the fact that he, like barry allen, is a very intelligent but very chaotic bisexual with undiagnosed adhd).

nora is there vibing, being a tecnopath and having actual numbers on her brain while also planning to conquer the world and also become kind of an iron-woman(? in that she makes gadgets for superheroes and for herself. pez is also vibing and being so cool they even have two powers, being able to shapeshift AND mimic the powers of ppl near them. hes the actual threat in that if they wanted, they could absolutely conquer the world.

ANOTHER FUN FACT: this is fairly obvious but in the us the school is called sky high and in uk the school is called wonder school bc i couldnt think of anything else and my reference for names of schools in the uk is that wizardry school from that horrible book so like,,,,, yeah.

LAST FUN FACT I SWEAR: theres a list of classes and their kind of equivalents that showed up after i decided alex would absolutely never stand this hero/sidekick bullshit shsksjsksjsksjsksjsksjs it was fun even though im yet to grasp the concept of american education(????? (listen im dumb so like if you were expecting too much from me, thats on you)

tiktok was surprisingly a good avenue of helping me figure out who’s who and what the lore was with the papas bc, tbh, the wiki confused me

also! chapters!! i luv watching the chapters (it’s copia-centric n the ghouls dont appear but it gives u a glimpse of the lore!!)

Gareth Emerson Headcanons (General):

he has ADHD

probably undiagnosed, but he researched about it and talked to his mom, she was really supportive but they don't have the money to get him diagnosed, so she does the best she can to understand him and do her own research

he also has 2 younger sisters (I think their ages would be around 7 and 11? A lot younger though) which 'force' (he enjoys it) him to play dress-up and have tea parties with them and their plushes

this would include Gareth's old plushies too (cute bats and a raccoon)

he loves his sisters so much ok-

on that note, he's a feminist 100%, as in he corrects other people on misogynistic behaviour and calls out other guys too

and also anti-racist

I'm so in love with him I can't-

he's also protective of his mom, since I headcanon that his dad was abusive, but they left once things got really bad and that's when they moved to Hawkins

this happened when he was like 11, he arrived during the school year and didn't talk to other people unless he had to

his mother was really worried about him, and that's when Eddie saw the cool introverted kid that liked D&D and decided he was going to be friends with him

they realised they both liked the same stuff and in no time Jeff and Kevin (the other guy with no name) tagged along

Gareth's mom loves his friends since they got him out of his shell

moving on, he's sarcastic like 99% of the time

Jeff loves to watch other people not understanding his sarcasm

because of his ADHD he often forgets to eat so his mom or sisters have to remind him

he also forgets to bring lunch a lot of the time so the Hellfire club learnt to always bring some extra food for him

Eddie and Gareth bond over being neurodivergent ('cause Eddie's autistic)

he stims and fidgets all the time, mostly by drumming his fingers on any surface available, but also bouncing his leg or tapping his foot

often his hyperfixations are new bands/singers, but also likes to learn about animals so he will just talk about hours about whatever animal he has his mind on

somehow always misplaces his drumsticks and has to buy new ones everytime (then he finds them under the sofa 7 months later)

either that or he breaks the drumsticks out of anger (that's very cishet man of him)

yes he has anger issues and drumming is his outlet

he also has anxiety and sometimes pulls all nighters just to perfection something he's making (like a patch, D&D figurines he's painting or a drawing)

yes I decided he likes sketching, but he doesn't think he's very good so he barely shows his art to other people

he often draws landscapes from Eddie's campaigns but also his D&D characters

I read someone else's headcanon on this, so don't credit me (don't remember who said it sorry), but because he stays up late he uses that time to study and catch up on homework otherwise he wouldn't do it

he just finds it easier to concentrate at night when everything is calm

all his pins are gifts from his friends or his mom

he made his cut-off flannel by himself one night he was bored and ended up loving it

he likes red but it's no his favourite colour, it's green

he's either bisexual or pansexual and identifies as demiboy (I don't care if it's the 80s, he does)

he knows how to cook basic things, just for when his mom has to work late and he has to make dinner for sisters

they love his cooking

doesn't really believe people when they compliment him, given he has been bullied most of his life for his hobbies and who he is, but doesn't correct people

if they compliment him he just thanks them because he doesn't want to put up a fight

one thing that he's very confident about is his skills on the drums (and his style obviously)

he feels like the dad/mom friend

he also has plants and has named all of them (they all have names of his favourite drummers and musicians)

would absolutely burst out crying if one of them were to die

also collects crystals or just pretty rocks

had to share a room with his 12 year-old sister when they were little but once they moved he got his own and has never been happier

Random things I think the jatp characters woukd hyperfixate on, bc I’ve been on a “history of opioids” kick for like a year now

- Luke: I think he’d focus on learning how to do things tbh. He’s that guy that learns to draw in six weeks and then never does it again because he’s moved onto learning the oboe because Reggie thought it was funny, and then to bedazzling because Julie’s jacket from her mum broke. He can become pretty put off by things he can’t master, and a bit of resistance from whatever he’s learning could lead to days of him curled up in the garage knitting until he can do a fucking dandelion lace knit

- Julie: random sections of random songs that she will spend several hours trying to find. For example, if anyone has a link to a tiktok with the sound that’s the dooh dooh thingy that speeds up then dissolves into classical, linking it would be great, because I’ve been trying to find it for months. I imagine it would more be the bridges of songs by really underground bands that don’t have the lyrics on the internet half the time, and she would manage occasionally to reverse engineer the whole song until one of the boys/flynn recognised it and played it

- Reggie: feels like a themes guy to me. The country music thing? A theme, gets obsessive about the accurate history of cowboys, is really good at transposing music for his bass and banjo, so kind of just plays any song he likes, which could mean weeks of Irish trad. On the bass. Had a period where he was super super into baroque shit, could probably critique baroque art by the end of it and regularly tells Julie that the meme she’s referring to as renaissance art is clearly from the baroque era, as you can tell from the attention to grand detailing

- Alex: natural phenomenons gay coming through! This lil dude will talk your ear off about anything from types of lightning and the conditions required to make them to the different types of crystals and how their proximity to magma chambers and fresh water will affect their formation, and you will sit there and enjoy the rant. I subscribe to the “Alex has religious trauma” theory, and ig maybe it could be a way of rebelling against that? Knowing the science of everything that his parents would’ve ascribed to God and His might and that, and feeling comforted knowing that if a twelve meter selenite crystal can grow in a cave three hundred meters underground, then he can definitely be gay and loved

- Bobby: they’re a science nerd your honour. Okay, look, I know this is me projecting, but idc. He’s a chem nerd specifically but will occasionally learn the biological mechanism of narcotic addiction in the middle of a research rabbit hole after watching the trailer for a documentary on the opioid crisis, and then will pester Luke until he agrees to learn how to do suters with him, and a few weeks later will write an article he forgets to send to a teen science journal about the neurotoxic action of snake venom. Doesn’t always come across pretentiously although it sometimes can, sometimes they’re just fondly telling one of the boys that they give him big dopamine instead of that he loves them

- Willie: look me in the eye and tell me that Willie William Wilburforth Williams Doesn’t memories statistics for things. Tell me I’m wrong. This funky he/they absolutely can tell you the year and album of every single one of Justin Beiber’s awards, and the tricks, their points, and the competition they were performed at, for everyone of the cool things Tony Hawk has done. Usually it specifies around things hes actually interested in, but if they’re bored or stressed they may learn the action, date and nationality of every Nobel peace prize winner to date.

- Flynn: organising things. I have a fic in the works for this (I have a fic idea, I’m nowhere near writing it) but basically I think that Flynn organises things for other people to give themself a sense of control over things. She has huge colour coded bullet journal planned a month ahead energy, and I think they’d have days where they’d reorganise Julie’s entire wardrobe for efficiency and by regularity of wearing, or where she’d schedule several months worth of bookings, or where she’d resort her bookcase by date of release

When did you become a Louie? I had a Louis bias ever since I got to know about One Dee but it was CCME that made a proper Louie

Why did you become a Louie? Oh boy, long story. So I got to know what One Dee was in 2017 long after the hiatus (I know :/) but I went down the YouTube hole as you do once you have a new hyperfixation and while I did love the band, Louis became an instant favorite. I have a thing for funny people, and Louis's humor was so on point that I did not stand a chance. Also, his voice was the first voice I learnt to distinguish when I was listening to 1d, and he was just so so wonderful and warm with everyone esp Zayn (who was the only person I knew about before One Dee, thanks to Indian barber shops) and I just got slightly more attached to him than everyone else and then I learnt that almost all of my favorite songs in one dee were written by him and I will literally fall in love with someone if I like how they write so I never stood a chance. Then, CCME happened. I was a casual fan until then but that day my blog looked so happy and I just never recovered from it.

Is there one thing that drew you in specifically? Humor, of course, the distinctiveness of his voice and just the amount of genuine joy that floods the fandom wheh he does something. It's a rare thing for an artist to have that. I generally avoid the whole Stan a celeb thing because I just can't wrap my head around it but here I am because this just feels warm.

i’ve always had trouble with new music and new food, specifically. i don’t watch new shows cause people recommend them to me and then i instantly forget cause adhd, otherwise i watch the same 3 movies and the same 4 shows on repeat, and i don’t struggle with new books cause i don’t read, but i’ve always struggled with new music and new food

for example, in 8th grade, the newest album for a band i was really hyperfixating on at the time came out. i kept hyping it up since the second it was announced, and then more so the second i heard it was coming out on our last day of school. i told my friends it would be so cool to have the album of my favorite band be released on the day we graduate middle school. i preordered the album as soon as possible, i talked about every pre-released song to come out on youtube or spotify, i talked about the cover art as soon as i saw it; however i had never listened to those pre-released songs or anything like that. when the album came out i didn’t listen to anything on it for months, it wasn’t until i was in the car with my friend and he played some of the songs off his phone that i even started listening to them. the pre-ordered album just kinda sat there and i never once played it until like halfway through 9th grade, but even then i didn’t listen to the whole thing. i’m well into highschool now and i still haven’t heard every song on that album. i’m just worried because one of the band members quit and so someone else plays that instrument and it’s a different version of that instrument that will sound different and the backup singer isn’t singing anymore and the sound is entirely different what if i don’t like it what if it’s too different, etc. learning (fairly recently actually) that this is all just an autism thing was like, wow

The last decade has COMPLETELY shaped who I am now and the fact that it ends today and essentially sends me off into the next one where turning 30 is the end is something I can’t wrap my head around and not just bc it’s barely 9am as I’m writing it. I started noticing aesthetic interests I had.

I developed my love for the outdoors and exploration.

I started realizing vaguely spooky things were really intriguing to me.

I got SUPER into Harry Potter.

Which lead to me creating my first two Ocs.

I started switching from drawing animals/landscapes to drawing people.

I made my first cluster of friends I hoped I’d have forever. (Spoiler alert: only still have one of em).

2012:

I started identifying with punk rock & emo culture/aesthetics.

I made my first cluster of online friends (Spoiler alert: don’t talk to any of em now)

I got into YouTubers.

I got into anime.

I made my first “blog.” It was a Facebook page for a fictional character.

I discovered my favorite band.

I made my first online friend I hoped I’d have forever (still have em so far!)

I met my future wife.

Which lead to making more.

I started drawing digitally using bases. Which started my improvement.

Learned having Ocs was Not Just An Isa Thing, Holy Shit I Thought I Was Just Weird.

Got another long distance boyfriend. First relationship I genuinely liked the person.

I realized talking multiple people through the lowest points of their lives and keeping them from harming themselves was a sign I should maybe get into psychology and do that as a job.

I started getting interested in researching mental disorders.
