you know that post about how scholars talk shit about each other when they write the phrase 'one might be tempted to assume,' or however it went. the entirety of crassus scholarship is like this.

#thankfully all i do is make comics and i can do whatever i want as long as i can justify the narrative beat #otherwise id be. ough. id be tempted to write a 600 page biography on him attempting to unravel this #B.A. Marshall mentioning Rawson's article on Crassus that initially intrigued me about him and he counters her assertion #that pompey overshadowed him with the triumph in a footnote like in a way we have come full circle #everyone collectively agrees that pompey and crassus were not the rivals that a lot of people seem to think they were #so im glad that we're all shaking hands on that. and that the rivalry they did have was just. the usual kind expected from the political #scene. very fun! for narrative purposes i will continue to make them periodically bite each other #because every time someone goes 'oh yeah they were heirs to sulla' i think im going to lose my mind #it does in some ways make their repeated alliance a little unsettling tho. like. haha ha ehgh. now we have to contend with #other kinds of parallels

washing some of my crocheted stuff for the first time and im Incredibly Nervous about it. what if they come undone. what if i lose my beloved soup coaster...

#id make a new one but it wouldnt be The Same #and i dont exactly have the uh #wrappers? listen i know that the star rail girls suffer from "same character design" but i got mildly obsessed with a bit of ruan mei's design because of one particular detail and that is:

it's this particular bit where the DNA strands are joined together by the plum blossom she's named after.

in order for DNA to be replicated, it has to be unwound by a protein called helicase which then allows for the reading of the DNA to create the new strands. I felt like it was fitting that like the plum blossom unraveling the DNA in her design, she's also trying to unravel the truths of the world and get to its essence.

#was it actually intentional? who knows! but i do like the thought alskdjfahl #like idk #helicase is the first step on DNA replication - it unwinds/unzips the DNA so that another protein can read each nucleotide and produce a ne #strand #in a similar fashion ruan mei does the same trying to unravel what makes an aeon or life or etc and tries to reproduce it #utterly fails but YOU KNOW YOU GET THE POINT #anyways i like ruan mei but i think she does the same thing that a certain other scientist does for me #where im holding my head in my hands like mAAM WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING STOPPPPPP STOP GIRL STOPPPPPPP #snow plays hsr #anyways i finished the first new trailblazer continuance (finally) and i have cats :) weeeeeeee #ruan mei #ngl i wonder just how many geneticist jokes are in ruan mei's design/abilities/etc #i would crunch on them if possible but alskjdfhal i probably shouldnt fixate #hsr #im just tagging these two for myself but its fine

I, a person who by now has written quite An Amount of fic set in Hollow Woods, was kinda sorta pretty concerned that this update would unravel every single little idea I had of it in my head.

Now I’m not going to pretend like I have the genius of whoever designed this thing (I am kissing you on the mouth btw) and knew the location of every little brook and lake or that there would be waterfalls and blood red leaves and a stone altar. But when I turned the time of day to night and I looked up to the tree crowns and down at the grass and the moss, it struck me very suddenly and with a lot of force that they’re just the same green that I’ve been seeing in my head all this time. And I just. Man it felt like coming right home. I feel like I’ve spent so much time looking up at those very trees already through the eyes of my MC. It’s the little things <3

fandom autopsies done by people who weren't on the front lines actively consuming and interacting always befuddle me. not because i believe it's super hard to summarize a fandom after its peak through solely outsider research but because actually i do kind of believe that

#fandom- especially the hash tag craazzyy ones that get attention and retrospectives are a very nuanced environment #by their very nature they are constantly evolving with very little clear tangible evidence of those changes #so to try and unravel it based on limited experience. esp when your audience is likely people who have been in that environment for YEARRSS #is like taking a couple years of high school spanish and then confidently trying to speak to a native or teach it to someone else #+ a fandom is an inherently emotionally charged place !!#to assess it without any underlying respect is possible but it'll never read as genuine to people who were/are there #which will just result in polarizing views on your summary and probably becoming a laughing stock on tumblr for a week #anyways this is why the last bronycon by jenny nicholson is the gold standard of fandom exploration to me #when writing a retrospective you dont necessarily have to be a dedicated fan with 10+ years of blogging and tangible impact on the fandom-#-but you need to consult super closely with primary sources!! as you would any retrospective on a social group you werent a part of!!#anyways. internet culture and internet sociology are some of my favorite topics i love this stuff!!!! take my hand... come research with me #saturn is rambling down
