#hobbies#linguistic philosophy#words#poll#highblogging#I am sorry if this is spammy I am stoned#this is a weed question#this isn’t engagement bait I just thought this would be easier than asking Quora#mean I guess it is kind of that a bit because part of that would be in expecting a higher rate of engagement here than on quora#but the point is to have an answer and not the bragging rights to being able to point to the notes and have an important or heritage post#anyways I don’t know if those are the right tags but I hope they are#if I am incorrect then I am willing to fix them but only if given enough information to act upon

What’s the best time to walk my dog?
🌅timmy burnster
professional baseball pitcher (1980-present)
it depends on the letters in your dog’s name. dogs with names that start with soft sounds are more inclined to walk during the evening since they’re not used to loud noises such as birds in the morning, so make sure to take your dog out for a walk at 3am
🏙️jonerm thambul
phd in jumping up high (1482-1845) and microsoft excel fan (present)
nobody can answer this question. you would have to do dna analysis of the past 10 generations of your dog, which you could easily look up how to do using phone. but nowadays everyone is lazy and expects other people to do all the work for them. this is how the rapture begins, and all the stupid kids in the world think it’s like a snack or burger, because that is all they know

🌉rammy dodger
inventor (2020-2021) and thinker (2022-present)
the best time was yesterday. the second best time is right now.
🏞️bars lom
watcher of dogs (2010-present)
most dogs i see in my cigy walk it at night

Man seeing the CEO's reaction to Black Myth not winning GOTY, saying they came to the awards for nothing (they won Player's Choice), that he wrote the acceptance speech 2 years ago, and all that shit about feminists and wanting to assault the female members of the team, make me glad they lost. Despite me playing the game way more than the rest.
Wait what post had the thing about feminists and assaulting female members? If you mean the Weibo post CEO Yocar wrote on 14 Dec 2024, I don't find any mention of the sort there. If you've any citations/links to the Chinese non-translated posts or screenshots that would be good.
If you want to read an actual good translation/paraphrasing of Yocar's post, I recommend this article.
1) "saying they came to the awards for nothing" you mean "今年入围的游戏都很出色,可我真没搞明白这次年度游戏的评选标准是啥,我特么白来了!" which basically states that "the shortlisted works are all outstanding, but I really don't understand what's the selection standards". The last part is like similar to "goddamn waste of my time" but not exactly, like waste of his attendance?? Like "The competition was strong but I didn't understand the rules, so why the heck did I attend for no reason! (exasperated tone towards ownself)".
Additionally, is writing an acceptance speech 2 years ago something negative...? Are creators not allowed to be proud of their work? This is the portion of Yocar's post that the "acceptance speech 2 years ago" came from:
"From yesterday till today, I've seen a lot of severly dissatisfied reactions from my conversations with (Black Myth Wukong) players, discontent and irritated—most of who expressed themselves in humourous and yet structured ways, which I found hilarious.
I understand entirely the feelings of those who are dissatisfied and frustrated, because I know that these feelings are backed not by harmful or evil intent, but a sense of self-confidence and self-esteem.
If one were to have pride in themselves, only to fail to gain the same recognition from others, it's quite normal to feel slighted.
Actually I'm... even more confident than y'all (see my first answer on 知乎*), so much so that I wrote my Game of the Year acceptance speech 2 years ago, which I ended up not using 😭😭😭"
*知乎 is another forume-sque platform that's kinda like Quora for asking and answering questions.
It's at worst a display of arrogance that in fact, seems to be used in a self-denigrating manner in the post. I don't have the exact same emoji, but surely one doesn't need to speak Chinese to understand what its use there means right? All I see is a pretty normal statement from a game dev empathising with the fanbase's disappointment over not getting GOTY, and soothing those pains by being self-deprecating about this own confidence in his creation.
In fact the rest of that 2nd paragraph (post is split into 7 paragraphs) makes the fact that he's focusing on the fact that he just has pride in his game even clearer:
meaning:
"In the process of developing this game, many colleagues weren't as optimistic as me. Maybe they'd replayed the WIPs too many times, such that they'd inevitably think it had too many flaws and wouldn't be finished in time.
In this company I have a very important role: to continuously reassure staff that we've already done a very good job, and that the game is continuously improving.
Indeed, you cannot have self-confidence in yourself only when you win.
That is not confidence, but preparation for/repetition of the end.
You lose today, and you can lose again tomorrow—and so what?
The end is never certain, as after all, the factors involved in determining are too complicated. The only thing we can be certain of is our own actions—to do things with purpose, difficult things, things we believe in/confident actions.
To do these, of course we must believe in ourselves."
The other paragraphs continue in the same encouraging spirit—generalised summary:
3 talks about how Game Science persevered in developing BMW because they trust in their game to deliver a quality story rooted in Chinese culture
4 talks about how Yocar thinks a common proverb few know is from Journey to the West "世上无难事,只怕有心人。/Nothing is impossible to a willing heart" does not mean that overcoming difficulties is simply a matter of mental fortitude, but that he thinks "因为难,才好玩" aka its fun because its difficult but also alluding to a common sentiment in fanbases that form around a love for difficult games... like BMW (and yknow the whole genre of Souls-like and Bullet hells and games that you love because they are so painful).
5 talks about the origin of Game Science's name, 6 about how they're fortunate to even be able to work on games, 7 a lovely, lovely conclusion that I think deserves to be translated in full:
"最后,希望黑神话的这个故事,能够给到某些还在迷茫中的人一点勇气,让更多在还在黑暗中摸索的人看到了一点光亮,然后以平常心继续前行。
希望大家都能继续怀着自信与雄心,保持勇敢、诚实与善良,踏实做好每一件具体的小事,坦然接受不确定的结果,一直走在取经的路上,直到生命的最后一刻。
就像海明威说的那样:这个世界很美好,值得为之战斗。" meaning:
"In conclusion, I hope that the story of BMW (both the game and the story of the game's development?) can give those who are still lost some courage, give more of those still searching in the darkness some light, and progress with a peace of mind.
I hope everyone will continue to embrace confidence and ambition, to be brave, sincere and kind, to properly do everything with purpose, until life reaches its final end.
Just like what Hemingway said: "The world is a fine place and worth fighting for."
It's honestly a very earnest and sweet post?? If you can read Mandarin Chinese its way more poetic and kind of tear-inducing—even more so if you're a creative of any kind, or just someone who's ever put high expectations on themselves to produce good results, only to seemingly ""fail"" by not achieving the unrealistically fantastical ideal you've built in your head.
Anon, I'm glad that you've played the game, but I don't think your interpretation of Yocar's post is fair at all. Creators are allowed to have high expectations about their own work, and to be disappointed when they aren't met. The post he's made is just that—a joking expression of disappointment, yet determination to carry on producing more games he can be proud of, and will bring happiness to others. Nowhere in this is the unhinged bashing of TGA that Yocar is supposedly to have done. If this sort of encouraging statement is considered inflammatory, I... genuinely don't know what to say.
#inbox#ask tag#black myth wukong#black myth#black myth: wukong#黑神话:悟空#黑神话#tried my best to translate lmao better chi speakers pls feel free to correct#easy to misconstrue chinese devs as vicious if you dont understand them i guess. nothing is ever good enough.

I hate being gen z sometimes.
I hate the concept of virginity. I hate how vulgar casual talks in a relationship has become. Like everyone expects everyone to be okay and sexually liberated now, especially for women, but no thank you. 🎀 it never actually happened anyway.
because of this, me not wearing revealing clothing appears, to the broad public, like I’m saving myself?? I’m still uncomfortable with my body. I’m not saving myself, nor doing anything related to sex when I choose to wear modest clothing. I, as a neutral person, am uncomfortable with my body. But we know everything has to be related to sex somehow because that’s the first thing men judge women by.
—> Article I read feel like sums this up really well:
———————————————
Radfems, why am I uncomfortable with my body?? Is it a patriarchal thing or how does it connect to feminism?? Please share if you know. Please enlighten me with your deep analysis. I’m not joking. I would really like to fix this problem because I feel like maybe I should start wearing more revealing clothing so men would pay less attention to me. I refuse to believe my personality just ‘pulled them in’. (sarcasm)
I’ve seen some radfems here who talk so much smack and try to sound so perplexing and ‘smart’. If you’re that smart, then can’t you answer my question?? Here’s your time to shine. Open your eyes, most women you come across in your life, by average, are not feminist nor do they know deep feminist theory. You cannot tell me an Andrea Dworkin book makes you feel ‘positive emotions’, unless you enjoy reading about descriptions and stories of women being exploited to the bare bone.
I would really like to live a life where I never became a fully fledged feminist at all. An ally, at most, and I don’t shame sex work or slut shame other girls. That’s what most women are.
I fucking can’t. I seem to attract men more than other women, until I shaved my head. But is shaving my head really the only solution? I’m not out here trying to look like Mad Max Fury Road.
and whenever you talk about this to other women they don’t get it. is it because they want attention? Yeah obviously. I am right, aren’t I? That’s the reason why I could never find Reddit posts, quora, etc online that just says ‘I’m a woman and I hate the male attention I get.’ I’ve tried many times, believe me.
. Radical feminists, please give me the answer. Unless you’re too wrapped up in theory to actually apply your oh so complex analytical concepts on an actual real life feminist problem. I really got into feminism with the hope that it will give me the answers but it only lead to more depression and pessimism, and now I’m spiraling.
1. Should I start dressing more immodestly to attract less men?
2. Is being uncomfortable with my body only feeding more into the male gaze?
Thanks.
#please actually fucking answer#this is not an emotional tell all I am seriously considering quitting feminism and honestly becoming a slvt#feminism#feminist#radical feminist safe#radical feminists do interact#radfemblr#terfsafe#terfblr#radical feminist community#radical feminists do touch#radical feminism#free use slvt

Yuan Lu's longevity braids:
Something that stood out to me about Yuan Lu's character styling in A journey to love is his hair, mainly because the other leads don't have small braids like his.

But it didn't really occur to me that they might be longevity braids until i came across this Weibo post:

OP: "a journey to love has killed me once again, I've only just noticed that nearing the end Yuan Lu's longevity braids have come loose. Longevity braids coming loose represent Yuan Lu's ending. Save me, a journey to love really knows how to knife someone."

from these shots (ep 8), there's at least three braids on his right and one on his left

and yet in these shots (ep 35), as op pointed out, there are no braids in his hair
And then I came across this Douyin about Yuan Lu:

Douyin caption: "actually Yuan Lu has a few more braids called "longevity braids" than the others, something that elders would usually tie for frail children."
So I went to double check the cultural meanings behind longevity braids (it's a sort of platform like Quora/Reddit, so the answers are not 100% accurate, take with a grain of salt):
Question: Why do some boys keep a small braid at the back of their head?

Community answer: if boys in the village have braids, it's largely for this reason: if the child is frail since young they will start tying a "life braid" once the child starts growing hair. They will only cut the braid after the child is five weeks, six weeks, or twelve weeks old.

Community answer: The practice on our side is for the "more cherished"/younger son to keep a braid, there is no such thing as to keep it if the kid is sickly. But in the North there is such a thing as "longevity braids", to hope that kids can grow up healthy.
translations by me, apologies for any inaccuracies (I may have passed Chinese back in school but I won't claim to be fluent in it).
#new headcanon unlocked that nyz is the one who braids them for yuan lu#since he was young#also worth noting that yuan lu starts losing his braids at epiosde 33#as far as i can tell#which also feeds into my delusion that its nyz who braids them for his son#a journey to love#yuan lu#一念关山#he's my blorbo

Reason under the cut
“These answers from Quora question "Why did Zhou Enlai promote Mao Zedong to the apex of power in the Communist Party instead of taking such role himself?"
// "In summary, Zhou was the ultimate diplomat, a smooth operator, handled people appropriately, organisationally immaculate with an eye on detail, and flexible in approach whereas Mao was a person with immense talent, militarily a genius, politically a maestro like puppet master and possessed of incredible guile. He was not interested in quotidian details of running an organisation and knew he had to rely on Zhou. Yet he always knew he had to look over the shoulder at Zhou because as the other CCP leaders told Zhou, Zhou was the only person ever who could take over from Mao. It was like a kind of love hate relationship between two brothers entrusted with the task of establishing and managing a country."
// "Back to the question itself, I have to say the peronality of Zhou En-lai was almost a saint. He didn’t raise, or just somehow got rid of any personal dislike and jealousy towards Mao. I feel that Zhou’s judgement is completely follows the objective fact. His eager for ideal overcame personal emotion. Since he found that Mao is the gifted one and his work could benefit the revolutionary ideal the most, Zhou simply put all other factors out of consideration and uttermostly supported the man he think could push the revolutionary career forward. Zhou En-lai was unusually humble, selfless and resolute. For more than half a century, he was the key adhesive of the Party. Zhou kept the walking god could stay with mortals, and he pacified the factional conflicts within the party in a wisdom and fair way. His work as prime minister and intelligence chief could be done by someone else, but the role as mediator was definately irreplaceable. CCP would be impossible to obtain victory without Mao’s lead. Without Zhou, well, the party may implode long ago. Using this traditional idiom is quite improper, for the metaphor violated their lifetime goal of equity. However, this is the best one to conclude their relationship. Mao Zedong and Zhou En-lai were exemplar of “君臣相得”, which literally means “A right correspondence of a right emperor and a right chancellor”. They happened to occur in that time, in same time. It’s one of the greatest grace of destiny for Chinese civilization."
// These passages from a Zhou biography:
// "Tsunyi was the watershed, the great divide. Here began Mao Dzedong's supremacy. Here too began the bond between Zhou Enlai and Mao Dzedong, an indissoluble linkage, until their deaths. Not an easy alliance. Deep entente, and profound discord. Devotion and loyalty, but also resentment. The two men exercised upon each other a mutual fascination, because they were so utterly different, in character, mentality, physical build. [...] Greatness, in China, not only lies in personal achievement but is also organically linked to the discovery of talent and genius in others. Zhou had discovered Mao Dzedong. Discovered genius, an amplitude, a breadth of vision, in which his own passion for China could recognize itself. The tragedy of this bond would come later, much later. When Mao, betrayed by the power lust of all around him, feared and envied Zhou Enlai, the only man who had never betrayed him, who had never wanted to wrest power from him, because he had never needed power to assert himself. Robert Frost has a line of poetry: "The heart knows no devotion, greater than the shore for the ocean." Zhou was the shore to Mao's ocean, forever stemming the transcending waves, yet inseparable from them. A Chinese scholar has another view. "Zhou Enlai knew Mao was a tiger. He, Zhou, thought he could ride that tiger.""
// "Zhou as usual walked briskly about, inspecting the rooms that were to be used. He spoke to the cooks. "Remember the Chairman likes his food with red chili." It had become second nature to Zhou to care for Mao's bodily comforts, as he cared for his wife's, for his friends'. But he was also exhibiting his affection for the Chairman, possibly to make Mao feel he was revered and loved, for he sensed how mortified, how heartsick Mao must be, now that his grandiose scheme had broken down."”

Japanese Q Speedround: Google Is Right There
Hi, it’s mod Rina. It’s time to speedrun some asks.
@troublsomeidiots asked:
I'm writing a character who is both black and Japanese and lives in japan in a primarily Japanese area and wanted some help in writing a person who is biracial who lives in primarily homogenous society? Like what kind of struggles she would face, especially as a person who has never met anyone who is black other than in passing?
Open Youtube. Hit search bar on Youtube. "being black in japan" "half black half japanese in japan" "black hafu in japan". Try different combinations of keywords. Bon voyage.
(neither Marika nor I are Black. We will not be speaking to experiences we do not have.) (we can outsource to some of our friends if you ask a specific question. These are not specific questions.)
(Black Japanese readers--please feel free to comment if there’s something you want OP to know!)
@layzeal asked:
Hello! I have a question regarding family/last names in Edo period Japan. My story takes place in 1816, my character was born in 1796 from a commoner family (that she gets separated from a few years later, and in a different country).
I've read that regular people in Japan didn't adopt the use of family names until Meiji restoration, but I'm not sure how true that is. Would a family of commoners in that period carry a family name, or would they only use their first names? And any idea if that family would have to present a last name when moving/passing by a different country that does use them?
It's important for me to know, since the existence of a last name or not would quite heavily influence how hard it'd be for the family to meet again, and which means would be used. Thanks in advance!
When I gave Google some keywords from your query, the second result explained how pre-Meiji commoners without family/clan names used bynames to distinguish themselves, and gives additional data on them. Maybe give it another Google?
@weavefeather asked:
Hello, I am a writer and I really need some advice. I am wotking on my book since a few years, maybe 2 or 3, and I finally got the points together how it could begin. My plan is that my MC (named Nanami Kudo) is an lawyer of the FBI and has to go to her homecountry Japan, beacuse they send her to foreign investigations about a syndicate of people..... And the some things happen, like her brother who still lives in jp doesn't really welcomes her, some complications with the police and so on...
But thats not the point! Im really struggling to take in words how she gets to the other country, leaving her home behind and her partner she worked with. Do you have any advice on it, maybe how to structure it, some words or scenarios that fit?
How she gets to the other country: …..She flies there.
How US government agents/workers relocate and what the experience is like: That's your job to google. We are not government agents. Try anecdata on reddit, reddit AMAs, and Quora.
It’s unclear what her relationship/proximity to Japan is. What kind of nikkei is she? Is she mixed race or monoracial? How much Japanese can she speak? So many unknowns. Go read our Japanese tag and appreciate just how many ways one can be a Japanese person. Until then, you are nowhere near close to being able to write a nikkei homecoming plot.
Lastly, you are the author. Give us scenarios yourself and come back to us.
In Conclusion
Guys, you all gots to google some more. It’s beneficial to both of us: not only do we get to help with more specific things and have enough info to do so, but you don’t have to wait months until your ask comes through the backlog only to receive an answer you could have researched in anywhere from a couple days to 3 minutes.
~ Rina
“But Rina, I don’t know how!”
You’re in luck!
First, try one of our own post on Google shortcuts.
Second, stay tuned for some very relevant posts...

Rania !! Who do you think is the "my gf is mad at me I wanna die" kind of bf in svt and why do I already see mingyu and dokyeom in it ಠ◡ಠ (tbh I kinda see hoshi and dino do that also)
PLS I LOVE THIS QUESTION !! also lovely anon pls lmk if u want to have an emoji or something i love seeing u pop up in my inbox <3 is it funny i can tell who u are from the cute emoticons 😭😭 at least i think its coming from the same person oops... anyways i hope i do answer this question right i feel like i didn't lmao
i think my top contenders for this is def dokyeom, mingyu, and hoshi. dino is a candidate but i think it depends on the situation or his mood tbh, and he can be that way if he rlly wants to ykyk
dokyeom is an overthinker (same w me tbh), and this poor boy immediately thinks worst case scenarios if you were mad or upset at him with something either big or small, joke or not. and he's pretty sensitive so it doesn't rlly help his case yk. you can probably be on your period or something and he doesn't know but he would still be like "why is she so upset with me?? i didn't do anything wrong, did i?" "are we breaking up?? if we're breaking up then something should have happened right?" he'd want to go on his knees to apologise for whatever but he's a bit Too scared. is literally melting into his own body n fidgeting just o v e r t h i n k i n g. someone save him pls
mingyu does it for pity points i swear. if it's something small and not serious he would literally be like "yah are you trying to kill me? I was two seconds away from having a heart attack!" but if it's something more serious and let's say mingyu had done something (like idk, hog the blankets all night kinda deal) and you're mad and ignoring him, he is literally going to be All up in your business. he's going to try and pry open your crossed arms, swing his legs over you so he could cuddle you to make you feel better, ANYTHING. "baby,, you're killing me here from you just ignoring me" :( his heart is aching and literally in pain when you're mad at him. it doesn't help that he devotes his entire being and soul to you and is very whipped. so anytime you're mad it feels like a gunshot to his heart
hoshi is kinda like a combo of the two, but unlike dokyeom he goes to lengths to figure out why you're mad yet DIRECTLY avoid asking you because he's a bit (very) ... intimidated. he can be asking his own members or searching freakin google to find his answers. he would google something like: "my s/o is mad at me and i have no idea what to do" and he would find answers on reddit or quora help. and he might get a lil frustrated and atp accept his fate. the longer you're mad and ignoring him literally feels like him getting shot with an arrow for every hour that passes. gives you a pouty face so you can see what he feels like and hopefully feel bad for ignoring him :((

Hi! First of all, I want to say that I really love your blog and all the content you have there. But for the actual question, so, I'm a new frev enjoyer, and I've been trying to look everywhere on the internet for the answer to a simple question that i seemingly can't find. What languages could Maximilien De Robespierre speak (beside french)? I swear, I've searched in every corner of the web and EVEN ASKED REDDIT AND QUORA??? I assume he understood Latin, since he studied law, but what about other popular languages, like Italian or Spanish? I don't know. I hope this question doesn't bother you, if you don't want to answer that's fine! Also I apologise for any grammatical mistakes, english is not my first language. Have a nice day!!! ♡
Hi, thank you for the lovely comment, it's definitely no bother at all!
You're absolutely right about Latin - anyone who received even a basic education in the 1700s would have at least a basic grasp of the language. Couldn't really do much without it! With someone like Robespierre, one can assume he would be pretty much fluent in Latin, or at least in reading Latin texts.
The only evidence for any other language he would have some knowledge of that I was able to find was not Italian or Spanish but Greek! Again, for the reason that it was very much a part of the classical education of that era.
(From an article about classical education in the 18th century:
This table also shows that, apart from seeming to be very well-versed in Latin, Robespierre would have at least some knowledge of Greek - enough to be able to win a prize for it, anyway:
I have to say I'm not quite sure about any modern languages! I would be leaning towards no. For instance I'd say that unlike some of the other revolutionaries like Jean-Paul Marat (or Voltaire and Émilie, who apparently learnt English in a matter of months), he wouldn't be able to speak English. I'm not hundred percent sure about Spanish or Italian though, as they are closer to French and therefore arguably easier to learn for a native French speaker.
If anyone knows more (@anotherhumaninthisworld ; @saintjustitude ?) I'd love to know as well!
Oh and least but not least welcome to the frev community and stay curious! ✨

Video description: The Quora site is displayed and the narrator, who has a British accent and is speaking quickly and excitedly, opens by reading from it: "My MacBook Air weighs 2.3 pounds. If I download more files on it, will it make it heavier?
"This is Quora," he continues. "A place where once grand intellectual questions would be mused over. But if you recall, 2 years ago we sadly bid farewell to our friend, Yahoo Answers, a place where those sorts of questions didn't happen, and in that time it seems many Yahoo users have made Quora their new home.
"Do chimpanzees get pregnant? Does anyone live on the sun? How high do planes fly when landing? What percentage of people are going to die? Do lesbians get periods?"
(A response to that question is read in a gruff tone:) "Oh, come on! Where the hell are you getting that question?"
"You are sleeping with your partner and suddenly realize that he/she is a ghost. What would you do? Are there werewolves in Texas? Why does the sausage have two ends? What happens to the time it takes to actually time travel into the past/future? Which hole does an actress push out a baby in a birth sense?"
(Another answer is read:) "She doesn't. She acts."
"I heard that in the Middle Ages, nobles used to wipe their butts with ducklings. Is that right?"
(Response, gruffly:) "No!"
"Is it true that pregnant women should not sleep during a lunar or solar eclipse as it may cause harm to the unborn?"
(Response:) "No. That's the dumbest thing I ever heard."
"Can I sue Germany for putting my grandfather in prison for 7 years in the second world war?"
(Response:) "No, no, no, no, no!"
"Can you think of a sentence that contains the words 'book' and 'crabs'?"
(Response:) "Well, yes, I can."
"Why does the 'bros' abbreviation for 'brothers' end in 's' instead of 'th'?"
(Response:) "Because that would spell 'broth'."
"Do rich people get embarrassed that their servants know what their stuff in the toilet looks like?"
(Response:) "This is a very weird question."
"What happens when we wash vessel and use it with water in which a lizard was dead? Is it poisonous? What can we do?"
(Response:) "Uhh..."
"Why does the United States promote homosexuality and not consider what happened in the petrified village of Pompeii?"
(Response:) "Wha…?"
"How can I have sex with Asia?"
(Response:) "Pretty sure you mean an Asian girl."
"Is Israel on the world map? Are the Irish really from Ireland? My son speaks Arabic. (in a panicked, shouting tone:) What do I do? Does India have airports?"
(Response:) "Putin came to India in 2014 swimming in the ocean. I have a photo to prove." (A flash of a picture of Putin swimming can be seen briefly at this point in the video.)
"Where do animals live? Why are things? What is my date of birth? Do you know a microscope? Real mathematicians (in all caps): I have 5 live cows and then I multiply them by 0. How then do you come and tell me that I end up with 0? Where did the 5 go? Which is larger: 0 or 2+7? Math math what is angle?
(Narrator comment: "I do believe this Quora user was intending to ask 'what are the names of the most powerful angels?' but…) What are the names of moist powerful angles? I'm an atheist who believes in God. What should I do? Why do atheists watch fiction movies? During airplane turbulence, how do atheists keep calm?"
(Narrator comment: "This question I could only find an old link for, even Quora went nowhere, not even, that is way too stupid:) How do atheists know what foods are 'sweet' versus 'sour' or 'bitter'?
"I am 11 and stand at 5 foot 2. Am I obese? Do celebrities fart? What's the meaning of a single white egg left at my door? (narrator's comment: that is weird.)
"My mom slapped her own bum in front of me what does that mean? Is this correct, 'similarvgbhujkljhgtyhujk'? Why is Zelda so 'thicc' in Breath of the Wild? Do demons always say 'I am a demon' when they are introduced? Is it possible to balance your entire body on your penis?"
(Response:) " Yes, but I'm scared of heights."
"I saw the cop the gay eating a raw bird in my backyard. What should I do?" (Narrator comment: "I became a bit obsessed with this question, it's so indecipherable and googled it for clues to find apparently there was much debate on the site about whether this was a weird autocorrect from 'cat'. Which word was supposed to be cat?")
"Can deaf people laugh out loud? Can deaf people do surfing? How do def people know what facial expressions look like and how they're used outside of American Sign Language (ASL)? If so, how do they learn about them if there's no way to see someone else make that face?" (Narrator comment: "I mean, I don't think there's any intelligent questions actually left on this site, is there? Who's asking 'Can music cause candle to light?' Obviously, no!")
"Do people still eat mashed potatoes? (Yes!) Can semen travel up your foot? (No,, it cannot.) Is the word 'stay asleep' alwasy spelled 'J'? (I don't even know what that means.) Do lobsters pee from their faces? (Uh, ugh, are you mad? Obviously no!)"
(Response:) "Yes, as others have pointed out, many crustaceans have two different types of excretory organs, both near the head. Usually only one is used, depending on the age of the animal. Lobsters and crabs, etc, use their urine smell like cats, to mark territory, warn rivals, etc." (Uh..oh.)"
The screen goes white and the scene transitions to footage of the narrator walking up to a door. He places an egg on the mat, then runs away.

i've noticed from answering questions on Quora that a LOT of people apparently think Kyoshi was the most brutal Avatar (which is probably an evolution of that really obnoxious and character-damaging joke of 'LOL KYOSHI WANTS TO MURDER EVERYTHING'), and it seems to keep being brought up as a positive in terms of describing her as a powerful and effective Avatar, and I really don't like the unspoken implication; that being brutal makes you more effective, and that by in turn being gentle or not smashing your opposition at the first chance makes you weak.
I've implied a thought in the past, and i will say it now: a large part of the ATLA fandom is weirdly close to outright saying that Ozai was right or that Sozin did nothing wrong, that their actual goals and methods were completely morally neutral, that mass slaughter, genocide and brutality are all completely justified if you do it against the 'Right People', so to speak.
Because, the unspoken thought here, that brutality and ruthlessness get Things Done and are therefore better than talking to people or mediating disputes, keeps coming up in the fandom. The praise of Kyoshi for her willingness to kill (though canonically she was deeply conflicted and distraught over the taking of life).
When i hear people talk about how she's effective because they think she's brutal, or imply that Aang's reluctance to kill makes him a less effective Avatar (Despite the series VERY STRONGLY implying that harmony and spiritual methods are a better thing, overall, than simply imposing your will upon others; not for nothing is Wan Shi Tong's remark of 'do you think YOU are the first one to believe your war is justified' comes off as an ideological defeat towards their brief conflict with him), and implicitly dismiss the actual function of the Avatar being to descend upon the realms of humanity and bring peace and harmony to a world struggling against itself and false divisions, I hear reflections of Ozai declaring to Aang "You're WEAK! Just like the rest of your people! They were too weak to deserve to live in this world, in MY world!"
and that the fandom as a whole, who lionize brutality for its own sake, don't see an inherent problem with what Ozai is saying (probably in the spirit of one fanfic writer who at one point criticized the Air Nomad's pacifism by saying 'at the end of it, look who's still standing') or worse, given the large amount of fandom that obsesses over the Fire Nation or even write Katara as AGREEING with the Fire Nation, think Ozai is absolutely right, and that the only thing that matters is forcing the world to do what you want.
#atla#fandom discourse#fandom problems#queued#im sure there's a few people who might go 'well we shouldnt have to say that Ozai is wrong'#and while that's true its also true that the complete lack of silence in how that also applies to the THEMES of ATLA overall#and how people don't see a contradiction between those themes and the fixation on ruthlessness in the fandom#is itself a conversation that should be contemplated

Hi, weird question maybe, I'm just some guy who stumbled on your quora answers and figured you're pretty knowledgeable. I'm Italian and I'm wondering if you knew of any forms of magic that could be compared to what in Italy is referred to as 'low ceremonial magic', usually practiced by farmers / poor people. I'm looking for similar traditions in other parts of the world because I'm trying to figure out what kind of magic is most practiced by low income people historically. Thanks a lot
Great question! I'm still in the process of learning about "low magic" or "folk magic." I usually call it folk magic, to distinguish it from ceremonial magic, although the lines between the two are pretty thin and there's significant overlap. (The difference seems to be mainly a class distinction.) If you want to research it, I recommend using "folk magic" as your keyword.
My own country, the United States, has several robust traditions of folk magic that tend to go unnoticed by people who aren't in contact with them. Appalachian Magic is one of the big ones, and Southern Conjure is another one of the big ones. New England has its own variant of English "cunning." Hoodoo and Rootwork are both African diasporic traditions, based in Vodou and practiced mainly in the South. There's also "Pow-Wow," which is mainly Pensylvannia Dutch, Curanderismo and Brujeria (Hispanic), various magical traditions that stem from indigenous religions, and the extremely popular New Age variant of folk magic (which is apparently called "manifesting"). I'm not intimately familiar with all of these systems, but I highly recommend reading New World Witchery by Cory Thomas Hutcheson for a primer on North American folk magic.
The one I know the most about is English "cunning." I just did a project for which I translated part of Bald's Leechbook, a medieval book of herbal remedies written in Old English that was intermixed with some folk spells. I've observed that folk magic tends to be very Catholic, or Catholic-syncretic, because Catholicism has a lot of folk-magic stuff built right into it (like saints' medallions and votive offerings) that were intentionally rooted out of Protestantism. But hey, new folk traditions are always popping up all the time. Tarot cards are only about two hundred years old, but they're a valid and effective divination method, and you can find them in any mainstream bookstore these days.
Finally, I feel the need to say that folk magic is very dark. There's a common idea, mainly in New Age and neopagan circles, that your spells will rebound on you if they're unethical. This has no historical grounding. Curses, forceful love spells, bindings, and other baneful spells are really common. Frequently, magic was the only source of power or agency for people with no other options. Sanitizing folk magic does it a disservice. That doesn't mean that you have to practice baneful magic, only that you should understand why it exists and respect it.

Hello! I am a baby stay - very enthusiastic and very confused!
I have questions but I keep seeing "fake fan" posts. Are stays usually excited about new stays joining or are they mean to new stays? Can I ask questions online or will stays be upset because I don't know very much?
Can you explain their names? I get confused by Minho and ¿Jeongin? - are those just other names for lee know and IN? Do other members have alternate names? Sometimes I can't figure out ship names and I think it's because of this. Han gets called something else too I think sometimes.
Thank you!

Hi:) sorry for taking too long to answer I was busy but im glad you're a fan:) so to answer your first question , no Stays don't mind at all!! I mean we all started as baby stays so I know it might seem scary but people are always happy and Im not sure where these "fake fan" posts are coming from , I personally have never seen them but ofc there will always be toxic fans (every fandom has it so thats expected but we have more good fans than toxic so thats good). Also, people are generally happy to receive any type of ask and they will not be mean at all, unless they are just a mean person haha (don't get discouraged , like I said more good fans than mean or toxics fans haha).
For your second question, yes they are just simply nicknames so they all have them , here are some commons ones and a good post on quora. And I know its confusing (I accidentally tagged them wrong in my posts when I was a baby stay haha so its all good nobody expects you to learn their names and nicknames right away, you'll get used to it as you go).
For your third question , completion albums like replay are divided into A side and B side so the B side tracks are with no psychical release so online but here is a google simple explanation: "SKZ-RECORD is a collection of songs by members of Stray Kids that were not formally released. These include special tracks, covers and other non-promotional projects released by the members on YouTube. SKZ-PLAYER is a collection of video projects by members of Stray Kids that were not formally released." And no not all skz songs are gonna have Music videos sadly but I don't think anyone really does that.
And for your fourth question, the only subunit that was established , I think before they became official is 3racha (han, Bang Chan, and changbin and also rap-line) and they produce the majority of their music so song writing, composing, and producing. The rest of the rachas followed this and while danceracha (Lino, Felix, Hyunjin) are the main dance group , so they lead, and sometimes help with choreography but they are not as established as 3racha but they are known to be I guess the "best" so thats why they lead, especially Lino. (he used to be a backup dancer for BTS). And then there is vocalrachca which is mainly Seungmin and I.N. All of this is confusing I know but don't worry, you will get it as you go.
For your last question, 'shipping' like in a friendship way is totally okay and we all do it but not more than that, like there are people who always just take it too far and it is very inappropriate and the members have not said anything unless its just to entertain their friendship 'ships' for fun. So when it comes to "shipping" just use common sense I guess, these are real people and we see them together all the time bc they are a group/freinds so you can't speculate on their personal or relationship status'. It's just deeply uncomfortable, unethical, and just weird so as long as its just for friendship like you will see a lot of people tag some posts with their favorite duo as "hyunlix" which is Felix and hyunjin for example but nothing weird. So here is again a great thread from Quora for those names.
Lastly, I just want to say I hope I answered your questions or some of them at least, its very confusing like I said, so just take it easy and be respectful and have fun and I hope you enjoy being a stay and thank you for asking:)
#Thank you for waiting and also I hope this answers everything :)#feel free to ask if you have any more questions :)#💌
