#anticipation is fun
Text
I think people have truly lost any ability to be patient with storytelling.
‘I don’t understand this’ They’ll explain it if you wait.
‘I don’t like how this episode left things hanging’ There’s a continuation next week.
‘This character is flat’ Wait for them to be fleshed out.
So many of the complaints I see about shows lately are people being confused by things THAT THE SHOW WANTS YOU TO BE CONFUSED BY THATS THE FUN OF MYSTERY AND FORESHADOWING YOU ABSOLUTE GOBLINS THE MAIN CHARACTER IS ALSO CONFUSED AND THEYRE GONNA DO A BIG REVEAL AND EXPLANATION LATER IF YOU WOULD JUST FUCKING WAIT

hey guys, i know you all want updates to my bakery enemies comic! i AM still going to finish it, i have NOT given up on it, and i'm sorry this hiatus has been so much longer than i anticipated. getting the second wind i need to work on it can be kind of tough (especially since we're in the final stretch, so when i start working on it again i want to make it all the way to the FINISH), but it is still absolutely in development!
anyway, this is also to say, you don't need to tell me you want updates. I know you do, and I can't give a clear answer as to when the next update will be, because i'm not sure when that inspiration will strike... but... if you're going to ask for updates, please don't do it on my other works. It's kind of disheartening to have comments on a new, unrelated work say "but what about beau?". If you want to ask about beau, at least ask it on a beau-related post, please!

#zeno's art#i'm not sure if i should tag the show itself as i'm not a fan but i guess its “fan”art so i will#hazbin hotel#charlie hazbin hotel#vivziepop#i was bored and wanted to draw something#my main goal here was to create a design that looked distinct and could (potentially) be moderately easy to animate#of course based on charlie's character i added as many angel images as possible through the hair and bowtie#(i know white on white is a character design sin but i wanted to show the angel wing detail ;w;)#also to express the personality and juxtaposition of a sweet devil her horns are supposed to curve into a heart shape#of course the garterbelts are upside-down/st peters crosses because of her satanic themes#i also tried to go harder into the goat theme but its still subtle i think#i actually think the goat theme is really interesting because of the story of the sheep and the goats in the bible#but i cant remember if it was actually something intended in her original design#i'm not going to draw anyone else so dont even anticipate that#this was basically a cooldown? ok i think i'm rambling now#goodbye#ok edit to say it clearly: i am not a fan of vivziepop or her work. i just wanted to redesign charlie as a cooldown/exercise for fun#because i used to be a fan of the character before i wised up about what vivzie had and has done#and before i matured and noticed the cracks and fundamental flaws in her works#so yea i dont support her at all and this redesign is critical i guess#also the reason why the tag “vivziepop” is there in the first place is so that anyone who has that tag silenced can scroll past#without seeing anything related to her work. in case that clears anything up#its the same reason why i tag “long post” and “food” and the like

Could we get some more Fae!Roach? Pretty please 👉🏻👈🏻
He's been oddly attached to you lately. Not that you're complaining, just proof positive that all your brujeria and bastardized magic was working. You feel his touch buzz over your skin, like insects just barely brushing by, like static electricity coming in for a quick shock. You don't know what it is, can't put your finger on it, but he always seems to be around when you're thinking of him. You're pulling books from the return box and arranging them on your cart when you spot Roach across the road. He's walking with someone, but you still push the door open and yell for him, giving him a friendly wave and a smile.
The man he's walking with taps his fists together in a 'G' before pushing them out to 'insect' with a meaningful look, Roach bats at his hands and presses his hand against the man's face, his cheeks under his mask turning pink as he waves back at you. You laugh and pop back into the library to finish your work. You hardly get a book on the cart before the doors open and Roach is looking around. He holds the door for his friend just long enough for the man to catch it with his hand before he's making his way towards you.
You pause your work to smile at him, giving a small nod to his friend. "Who's this?" You ask him, unsure what to do while Roach is digging through his pockets. The man steps around him and holds his hand out.
"Gaz, me an' Roach go way back," He smiles, and it's terribly charming. You take his hand and give it a firm shake, enjoying the solid grip of Gaz's fingers. He releases you after a moment, just in time for Roach to grab your hand and press something solid into it.
You blink down at the impromptu gift, a little glass vial. You hold it up to the light, the downy feathers inside shift from a deep black to a vibrant blue as you tip the vial. Cool. You meet Roach's gaze, his eyes heavy and insistently focused on you. Actually this is great timing.
"I have something for you too!" You tuck the vial of unknown feathers into your pocket and glance around for any fellow librarians, "Wait here, I'll get it." Roach nods excitedly, and you abandon your cart to go behind the front desk.
You dig around for your backpack, then dig through your backpack for the little pin you'd found at the print shop. When you go back to Roach and Gaz they're talking with rapid sign language, their hands moving too quickly for you to follow. You make out a few signs, but without context you're lost. You hold the pin up to show Roach, a little beetle with open wings, it reminded you of him. He makes a gesture towards you that you don't need to understand sign to get the gist of: "see?" complete with raised brows as he takes the pin.
Gaz nods and makes a pulling motion from his chest.
Roach shakes his head.
"What're you talking about?" You ask, patient, but not enough to be left out of a conversation clearly about you.
"Roach's just tellin' me how much he likes you," Gaz supplies, earning another frantic face pushing from Roach. You laugh and turn to grab another book out of the return bin.
"I like him a lot too," You tell him, mostly because it makes Roach look at you with eyes that could give puppies a run for their money. Gaz hums, his smile stays bright but his eyes narrow. It makes you uneasy.
"Suppose that's why you got his name on you," Gaz says, and you snap a hand over the name you'd drawn in kohl on your arm. It's covered by your sleeve, you don't know how Gaz would have noticed. His eyes dart down to where you've grabbed, another hum and a different, dark, smile.
Roach waves a hand between you and flips Gaz off. Gaz snorts, the moment broken in favor of the two men slapping at each other. Gaz turns towards the exit, blowing a kiss at Roach who catches it and pantomimes throwing it across the room. "Jerkoff" Roach signs, and Gaz shakes his head.
"Don't keep him out too late," He tells you, "Got work in the morning."
"Um, sure." You half mumble, unsure what to say after... that. The door closes behind Gaz and Roach steps in front of you. He tips his head this way and that, leaning close to look at you. You blow a breath of air at him and see his eyes crinkle, his smile barely contained by his face mask. Another tip of his head, a quick lean in, and he's got his covered lips pressed to yours, pulled back only to press to your cheek.
"Do we have a date later?" You ask him, unsure if you forgot or if Gaz was just poking fun. Roach's eyes dart to the door before he nods quickly.
"We do now," He signs. You grin, twisting your fingers in the front of his tee, his hands quickly find your hips and pull you close. Silly man, but you suppose you had been hoping to see him tonight. His timing is truly enviable. You don't know how he does it.

Which Witch?
This moment in "Donnie vs. Witch Town" has repeatedly caught my notice, and I’ve now recovered enough to break it down!
First off, here’s the list verbatim:
Visitors  Suzy Bannion Heather Donahue Nancy Downs Minnie Castevet Katia Vajda Miss Anjelica Ernst Samantha Stephens April O’Neil
Unfamiliar names plus cursive plus a lack of high-quality stills meant decoding this took a little longer than expected.
I have attempted to minimize spoilers for the mentioned horror movies when possible, but in pursuing two contradictory goals, I have accomplished both imperfectly. C'est la vie!
Please note: I am by no means a film buff, so feel free to add any relevant context!
Oh, the Horror . . . [films]!
"Suzy Bannion" would be a reference to the 1977 film Suspiria in which Suzy, a ballet student, finds herself investigating a supernatural coven of witches.
"Heather Donahue" is a homage to the 1999 "found footage" movie The Blair Witch Project*, wherein three student filmmakers investigate a legend of a witch in the woods.
"Nancy Downs", from the 1996 R-rated film The Craft, is one of a trio of students rumored to be dabbling in witchcraft.
"Minnie Castevet", on the other hand, hails from the dark 1968 film Rosemary’s Baby (based on the book by Ira Levin), wherein Minnie’s character is suspected of being a member of a coven.
"Katia Vajda", originates from the 1960 film Black Sunday, (loosely based on Nikolai Gogol’s short story "Viy"). Katia was accused of being a vampiric witch and executed by her brother—but that isn’t the end of her story.
"Miss Anjelica Ernst" simultaneously references Roald Dahl’s 1973 novel The Witches and its 1990 film adaptation of the same name. One member of the notorious child-hating coven is the Grand High Witch, Eva Ernst, who was portrayed by Anjelica Huston on the big screen.
"Samantha Stephens" lives the life of a "good witch" in the 1964 television series Bewitched.
Special Bonus!
"Abigail the Good", founder of Witch Town, may be an allusion to the character "Abigail Pershing" from the 2015 television show Good Witch.
I’ll go ahead and credit my dad as my research assistant; he described these references as "deep cuts".
And really, what higher praise is there?
*For more about Heather Donahue, the producer and writer of the sitcom The High Country, check out this article by GQ's Scott Meslow, The Blair Witch Project's Heather Donahue Is Alive and Well!

Are you planning on doing some KND redreaw screencaps? It can be from any episode, mainly the ones you like. Also your artsyle's cool I love it
I'm not really as big on DOING screencap redraws, but I enjoy seeing other people's! :> Idk, for me, I try to draw pretty close to the show's style, so doing a screencap redraw just seems like it wouldn't be that interesting coming from me.
But, I did one just for you :> I was originally going to do a different episode, but upon rewatching the end of INTERVIEWS I had to do this one. I took some liberties, like shoving them closer together, I hope that's okay lol

There's a wedding in the castle that everyone goes to because it's Barius' niece. Callum doesn't really know much about her—he hadn't had the easiest time making friends when he was younger (step-prince thing and all), and she's a few years older than him so he he's never has much to do with her. He thinks he remembers her flirting with Soren when they were younger maybe?—but everyone else is going, so he goes because he doesn't get a choice.
"It'll be fun," Ez promises.
Weddings, in Callum's opinion, are supposed to be for close friends and family, which he, in this case, is very much not. "I don't think I've ever even spoken to Alys," he grumbles.
"Yeah, but she's Barius' family, and Barius is basically our family. Come on, Callum. You should come." Ez gives him that look he perfected years ago: big eyes, jutted-out lip, and Callum rolls his eyes and sighs, lips twitching just a little at how well his brother can wheedle.
So he goes. It's a good time. Opeli conducts the ceremony, as always, and Alys and her new husband say their vows and kiss before a crowd of friends and family and friends of family (Barius cries as the ceremony closes), and then it's all dancing and drinks outside in the warm spring air. There are lights strung over the gardens, and Soren has too much wine and Ez has too much cake, and Callum finds it isn't too bad, all things considered. Alys seems friendly enough. He hopes she and her new husband have a lovely time.
But long before the party winds down, Callum drifts away, as he's wont to do these days. It's too loud and there's too many people and he just doesn't really have it in him to dance. He's been told it's rude to leave before the bride and groom so he sticks it out, but he does, eventually, find a bench a little way away, close enough that he can still hear the laughter and pretend he's having a good time, but far enough from the crowd that they can't see the downturn in his lips.
Ez finds him when the tea comes out. He brings over two teacups, his smile genuine but apologetic and a little remorseful all at once. He sits down next to Callum and the air buzzes with a bunch of things he wants to say that he doesn't. Callum accepts the tea without a word.
"You okay?" Ez asks in the end.
Callum breathes out a chuckle and keeps his eyes on his tea. "It's just loud," he says. "I had fun."
"Did you actually?"
"Yeah," he says. "It was a good night."
Ez snorts ruefully. "You don't have to lie. I'm sorry I made you come out. I know you're still having a hard time."
"Mm." Callum only shrugs and stares into his tea. Steam curls over his face but he barely feels it. There are ripples forming over the reflection of the moon.
He sighs. "Do you think this might have been us if she'd stayed?"
Ez chuckles sadly and sets a hand on his shoulder. "Yeah," he murmurs. "I think so."

romance book rec from someone who also doesnt usually read romance but also devoured half a soul: emily wildes encyclopedia of fairies! i havent read the follow up book yet which came out recently, but the first one was delicious! (in case you haven't read it yet)
Thank you! I will definitely look into that. Also I should look into Paladin’s Grace as well, according to some other replies.
I do really appreciate the recommendations! No disrespect to smut authors or people who are really into smut, but it was getting so frustrating to hear a recommendation only to find out it was more porn than actual plot. I can’t even bring myself to be interested in sex in real life, so trying to read about it is just so boring.
