Thinking about how great CATWS was and how Marvel dropped the ball on all the characters from that movie.

Steve? Got character assassinated beyond repair.

Natasha? Killed off, didn't even get an on-screen funeral and her only solo movie was more about introducing Yelena than her.

Bucky? Never got a prober story, was victim blamed, and will possibly die in Thunderbolts.

Nick Fury? Got character assassinated in Secret Invasion.

Maria Hill? Was killed off in SI.

Sharon Carter? Turned into a villian.

Sam Wilson? Unlike the rest they haven't completely fumbled the bag with his character but he was still screwed by FATWS in many ways, and his first solo movie doesn't look very promising either.

Also consider that their sequel to the movie where we find out Howard Stark knew about Nazis in SHIELD (the specific Nazi that tortured Bucky and killed members of the 107, and tried to kill Steve) ...was a movie where Howard is assassinated by Hydra and yet Bucky gets blamed and brutally attacked for it. Even though this is the same movie where we find out Bucky was mind-controlled.

And their sequel to the movie where we find out Peggy knew about Nazis in SHIELD is..... Uh. Nothing. They never address it. A character who died offscreen gets screen time wasted on a fulblown Royal funeral (attended by people who didn't even fucking know her!!)

They treat her like some kind of living saint, to the point where she's now a full blown Mary Sue, with yet another bloody tv show where every storyline must be about her, and her possessing Steve, and Steve is reduced to a Stepford Husband wheeled out to repeat 'Peggy. Is. Perfect' type lines. 😬 (Steve. Blink if you need rescuing.)

All Bucky's everything now belongs to Peggy.

Oh, apart from the blame of course! He gets to keep all of that! 🙂

(Oh, and as per What If, Sam is no longer part of CATWS, his own intro movie, and even Natasha's own movie is now about- guess who?? Peggy! And Peggy having Steve!)

Apparently Sharon has been turned into a villain in the comics, too. Just as they start product-synergy introducing MCU!Peggy to over-ride comics Peggy. I wonder why...

(It's so funny that TFATWS assigned MCU-Sharon MCU-Peggy's annoyance at being overlooked by men (cough the man she's relentlessly hitting on cough) and decided that this would be her villain origin story... and yet nobody has connected the dots to Peggy and her behaviour?)

Sharon and Sam's characterisation only feels like an organic continuation because, frankly, the MCU never bothered to write them being particularly nice people to begin with?

Sam being a fratbro-style dick to Bucky in TFATWS, with a side of dispensing unsound self-contradictory counselling advice, is consistent with being a dick to Bucky (and arguing against helping him) since CATWS and quitting a counselling job at the drop of a hat. (Only the 1980s movie locker-room homophobia queerbait is new.)

Sharon being a villain is consistent with being a Carter not being asked to join the 'bringing down Hydra' team in CATWS, dressing up as the same profession as Steve's dead mother to 'befriend' him while she's just spying on him (contrast: the calling-out Nat got from Steve just for not telling him something), staying in SHIELD while they were hunting down Steve and Natasha, immediately joining the CIA (aka, the people who just happen to have a superhero-proof electric chair and want to shoot Bucky on sight, who also have Everett 'ex-husband of Madame Hydra who laughs at the idea of Bucky getting a lawyer' Ross on staff), ...which is easily infiltrated by a (thinly-veiled-Hydra) villain who wants to mind-control TWS to bring down the Avengers (deja vu??), being snippy to Sam for no reason, continuing to lie about herself beyond the point of it being necessary, and also being a creep who expects a thank you kiss from Steve just for doing one basic helpful thing when asked. *phew!*

But the geniuses who inherited the job of writing her in TFATWS can't see any of that... They see no issues, so they think they've written her 'turning' bad. The writing is still shonky because it still isn't self-aware about what it's portraying. The cognitive dissonance is still dissonant.

(Same problem with Fury. They keep giving him 'bad' things to do, showing him instinctively first joining the 'bad side', eg. Pierce's SHIELD, the Kree, etc. But with the exclusion of Steve yelling at him in CATWS -- and only so that Nick gets called out, but not precious Saint Margaret, ofc -- it's never addressed. They can't do anything interesting with the moral charcoal that they've accidentally cooked up, because they aren't even aware that it's there. 🤦‍♀️)

We were mercifully spared from Joss Whedon's terrible ideas for Maria... (supposed to be a villain in A1, baffled as to what to do with a female character so obviously she should be hinted as a love interest for Steve out of fuckn nowhere in A2) ...only to end like that.

Outside of that AOU Avengers party, where she was chill and kinda gay, I feel like the best characterisation we got for her was when- was it in one of the Spidey movies?? -she was a Skrull. 😤 If only I could say the same of Steve...

Ever since they put Sam as Cap both in 2014 comics & setting it up in phase 3 MCU to now Marvel's been pushing really hard to "correct" Steve's legacy in only being Cap in name & being more of an anti-government rebel. With Sam as Cap they push hard to make Sam's Captain America a blaring patriotic jingoism ad with neoliberal representation... You'd never have seen Steve be the bodyguard of the president of the USA as a premise of a story 🙄

It's annoying in its own right because along with the America patriot propaganda it logically follows ofc for characters like Sabra & her terrorist actor to easily appear in these stories with some Zionist propaganda.

But it's just really annoying to put it lightly how much Marvel - ever since first putting Sam Cap to page in 2014 - worked overtime to undermine Steve's character making CW a de facto IM movie & painting Steve as in the wrong  for being against the US gov authority & overall stripping back & removing Steve's righteous anger at the US State for what they did with Shieldra, or how FATWS compares its enthusiastically patriotic protagonist to make Steve look retroactively worse

& likewise precluded Bucky's post-WS character arc entirely & retroactively demonized his character as the insufficiently patriotic & therefore untrustworthy one. His whole backstory setup in CATWS painted the US gov in a bad light & culpable via Shieldra, so ofc Bucky gets villainized in phase 3 & likewise FATWS paints Buck at fault for being a target of continuous state violence & institutionalization while Sam- an agent of the state, part of the literal USAF -is presented as moral center while telling Buck he deserves to be at the whim of the US state and blamed for WS crimes the gov funded via Shieldra. Bucky gets surveilled & arrested & monitored by the same US State which funded the supersoldier mindcontrolled assassin program they blame him for while Correctly Patriotic Uncle Sam is shown as a Good US Soldier by contrast while Bucky's story gets retconned & swept under the rug for being to inconvenient to the Patriotic direction they went in.

The propaganda really ramped up with the ink and pages of Sam Cap drying off & becoming their new brand, but marvel's audience who tbh enjoy lapping at the Mouse 's propaganda pool refuse to see beyond the superficial aesthetics which is WHY US media frequently & purposefully chooses these aesthetics & act like neoliberal representation in oppressive structures is radical or progressive.

Which makes all the performative shock over Sabra in BNW fall flat since Sam Cap as a Marvel rebrand is defined by doubling down on Cap as a patriotic literal agent & defender of the US government. Sabra's inclusion is entirely ideologically consistent with what Sam Cap is about FFS, in FATWS the only other character besides Bucky who was exploited by the US gov is Isaiah who CORRECTLY outlines the relationship btwn America & Black ppl & Sam wholly dismisses him as crazy! THAT is was SamCap is about: telling Black ppl to STFU & be patriotic Obama style, but ppl are acting like Sabra is "ruining" Sam's otherwise totally not at all propagandistic stint as a now more patriotic 🇺🇸flag laden hero while America funds multiple genocides as the USA has always done since it's inception.

I haven't watched the trailer (and tbh don't intend to... too depressing) so I can't really comment on specifics of this.

But I will say that I was thinking the other day how MCU's complete refusal to do any Cap character properly, but especially Steve, had the knock-on effect of making it impossible to do a SamCap well too.

Steve was supposed to be impoverished / multiply disabled / ideologically Antifa / feminist / pro-union / New Deal Democrat / Irish-Catholic / urban underdog, etc. And it would make perfect sense for a modern black man to accept the legacy of all that, if Steve had been adapted properly.

In deleting all that and assigning to the mantel what America represents instead, they've turned the shield from an honour into an albatross.

But it's still contradicting their own canon to do so.

Because even the de-yassified MCU Steve never embodied America; he merely set an example to America.

Isaiah should not plausibly believe Steve's shield represents something bad -- as someone who knows nothing about Captain America would -- as if MCU canon!Steve never did any of the good things he did with it.

(This could've been a beat addressed in the main Cap movies; eg. someone assumes Steve is a Republican and his baffled response is 'huh??!')

Following canon, Sam's logical response to that should've been 'wtf it doesn't mean any of that where did you get that from??' not 'yeah but I want to represent that anyway.'

Isaiah correctly lampooned what America's legacy is... but no one bothered to point out that's not what Steve and his shield have represented. Not even the landlord-white version of him we have in the MCU.

That failure makes a nonsense of Sam's entire friendship with Steve.

Why would Sam be friends with the willing bearer of America's bad legacy?

Why would a decent Steve be friends with someone who wants to represent a bad legacy (maybe EG Steve would!) and so on and so on.

Though I guess it's no dumber than Steve not killing Peggy on sight for colluding with Nazis for decades, huh? 😕

I'm looking forward to all the jokes Sam is going to make about Isaiah being a brainless killing machine (y'know, to show what bros they are?)

And when he comes out at the end of it and tells Isaiah he needs to "do the work" to apologise properly for what he did while controlled.

Or perhaps he will suddenly magically understand the concept of innocence, now? 🤔

Sam siding with the authorities might be sadly consistent with the spirit they've taken him in (I've pointed it out before, but it is IC for him to be, eg. a dick to Bucky. Yer man's been doing that since day one).

But it at the very least it contradicts Sam's canon to willingly guard Ross, a man who threw him in enhanced-people-Gitmo like a "common criminal," to paraphrase Sam himself.

(Hey, why would the man who threw Sam in prison later trust Sam to guard him? Is it just a set up to screw Sam over again? Okay, but why would Sam fall for something so openly implausible? Are they giving him the idiot ball?)

The MCU are masters of 'we don't understand what this action we've assigned the character actually shows about them.' Or when they are assigning character actions that contradict past actions.

And they sure as fuck don't know what made CATWS a good movie.

What burns my asshole is that the Conservatives might all be vindicated for the January 6, 2020 coup d’etat. “How?” you ask. When the rocks start flying and the buildings start burning, the Right-wing media will show footage of the riots. Maybe, they’ll even throw in some stock footage of the Chicago riots of 1968. The stupid ass viewers won’t know the difference! At that point, the January 6th rioters will look like patriots.

If protesters practice refractory Zen and employ passive resistance, or even civil disobedience, the general public just might sympathize with them. However, Right-wing provocateurs, dressed up like Antifa in black ski masks, will simultaneously infiltrate the marches. They’ll do their vandal shit and encourage violence against the cops. This actually happened during the George Floyd rebellion some time back.

So, what was the big alibi for January 6th? That it was infiltrated by Antifa and it was their fault! Thank Buddha, this was a laughable fantasy! After the public rejected this idiotic premise, they blamed FBI agents. Can this Right-wing tactic work again? Hell, yeah, it could!

The Islamic State of Iran is as big as the State of Idaho. When Mahsa Amini got murdered by Iran's morality police, that entire country erupted into demonstrations. It was like Paris in 1968, when the students united with the workers in a general strike. And, alas, like with all outbursts of public outrage, nothing was resolved. The only way democracy can replace dictatorships is through revolution. Definitely not the Neo-Liberals’ delusion of America invading Iran, handing them a democratic country, and then drilling for oil.

A handful of Confederate soldiers were black slaves. This can be verified historically. There were also black slave hunters who, when a slave escaped, they’d hunt them down and capture them. They’d return them to the plantation, where the White masters would have the black slave hunter whip the black escapee until he bled to death.

What does this have to do with Tyre Nichols? Everything! When White cops kill a Black man, they get assigned paid leave, only to return to a handsome raise and promotion. When Black cops kill a Black suspect, they are immediately suspended without pay. I’ve since heard that they all got fired. What they did was a racist act: They killed Tyre under orders of the White police captain...allegedly.

Now, we will see angry protests and it will all be labeled “woke.” Woke is the new epithet for the 20’s; the new N-word. “Another woke riot!” What a fucking confabulation!

So, solutions? I know my solutions are not inerrant, but it’s a dirty job and somebody’s got to do it. Instead of having a civil temper tantrum, how about an assiduous revolution? How about taking steps in transforming a corrupt society? Now, I am not talking about robbing a bank to finance the revolution. Armed struggle? That is the last resort. I am talking about strategies to outsmart a nuclear-powered republic. Remember: the enemy has the weapons; we have the numbers. Maybe we can smash the state through a bloodless revolution. It’s not impossible. Gandhi almost did it in India. Martin Luther King, Jr. tried to use nonviolent resistance and it almost worked. Why not do the same?

When the cops beat the shit out of you and people witness it on social media, sympathy will go towards you. It is a bigger sacrifice to endure excruciating pain than to die for the revolution. Look at how the optics of the crucifixion has lasted for thousands of years. If Jesus would have used an A-R 15 and shot a fusillade of bullets at Roman soldiers, the whole point of the gospel of Christ would have been mute. When cops used high-powered fire hoses and German Shepherds to attack civil rights activists, it had greater impact upon the public than Black Panthers posing with rifles.

What’s going to happen in the immediate future? These protests will be heated and then fade away. Maybe by the time the time you read this, it will all have come to pass.

To mark this crucial anniversary, MFF proudly presents our latest commentary on the life and crimes of the USA's most infamous white collar criminal. We were sorely tempted to make this our very last statement about HIS ROYAL HEINOUS, for the foreseeable future. But these are truly historic times, so we will likely persevere with our blog posts. The notorious HELL TOUPEE has conducted a master class in the spectacular excesses a sufficiently unscrupulous person can get away with in contemporary America.

The legendary saga of the USA's most strident, inept, intellectually challenged, and tedious DRAMA QUEEN will inspire ambitious sociopaths for decades to come. We look forward to that glorious day when he is actually imprisoned – at which time we will happily celebrate with a MULTIMEDIA EPITAPH for his disastrous public life.

This amazing over-achiever had a late Halloween this past year, as December became TRICK OR TREASON time for him – as well as many of his cronies among the LOUD BOYS and the OAF CREEPERS. The revelations of the past two years have made it crystal clear that THE DON is the biggest shark that MAGAMERICA ever jumped, and the world has paid the price for this supreme folly.

THE GREAT MUCKY MUCK

The Great Mucky Muck hadn’t a brain in his head. He hung out at a golf course named after a bed. He drank Diet Cokes and he ate his Big Macs While in between he had lots of in-between snacks.

He played golf and ran rough-shod over the greens And wheedled and cheated and dreamed up his schemes. Of how to take more and give less and scam millions, Which wasn’t enough as he’d rather scam zillions.

But the cruel FBI broke into his cellar, Which made the poor Muck a most unhappy feller, Unhappy and sad and grumpy and pouty And angry and red-faced and screamy and shouty.

But his screams and his shouts for once did him no good As the courts and the lawyers and judges just stood There and said, ‘No, Mucky, you can’t have this stuff No matter how loudly you huff and you puff,

And you puff and you huff and you whoffity whuff, These papers aren’t yours and enough is enough!’ So the Muck hired lawyers, not the best of the best, The top 99%? – Muck scooped up the rest.

And they stood on their heads and did hand-stands and such, Whatever they did, it wasn’t worth much. So deeper and deeper the Muck dug his hole, Till he could not reach the top with a nineteen-foot pole.
