Okay so last week was a shitkicker and was literally so bad I spent the better part of the week trying to delude myself into thinking it was a good day. Like, we're talking, "the sun is shining and I'm here to see it so today is a good day" and "I'm having a bad day- fuck me I am not haveing a bad day- I'm having a good day- I'm not having a bad day". Denial is a powerful tool for mental health, apply judiciously. I get that everyone on earth is kinda having a shitty year but it feels like things just kinda escalated in my little corner

The 7th had a huge snow storm that brought traffic to a stand still. No one could leave the house and university class was online anyway. Batshit customer demanded to pick up her gear anyway. I drove in because I was the only person with keys to the shop that could get to the building. It took me a solid 2 hours going 15mph on the highway. The snow in the parking lot was up past the fenders of my truck. Crazy lady gets 10 out of 18 of her survival suits back but the other 8 still have holes in them because our only repair tech is also the only one who answers the phone or runs the computer or handles customers or cleans or disinfects anything or stores gear. I'll give you one guess who that person is.

Did you guess me? Good for you. Fun fact this was not the case in October.

Crazy lady swans off through the snowed in parking lot and because she cant find the exit, blasts straight through the ditch and onto the road.

I say fuck it and leave. I've been at work for 2 hours. I have made 24 dollars for my trouble. It takes me another hour to get home.

The 8th is Saturday and I'm supposed to be at work. No one can drive. There was another 10 8nches of snow last night. I say fuck work and go to dig out the plow truck. The canopy over the plow truck collapses as I walk out to clear the snow of it.

I do not scream.

My partner and I get the truck running and go plow people out of their driveways and then go do the shop.

We come back home and the heater doesn't work. We just spent most of last week frantically trying to limp the thing along because no heat at -20°F is in a word fucking unpleasant. At least now its 40 degrees warmer because if the snowstorm. We take it apart again. The house smells like diesel. The house smells like exhaust. The house is not cold because the wood stove can keep up at 20 above zero but it won't keep us through the winter.

There is no saving the oil heater. We need a new one.

Its 730 and neither of us have eaten. I start rice in the pressure cooker so I can throw a tasty bite on top and call it dinner and that dies too. Explosively.

Dinner is half cooked rice and microwaved curry.

Sunday is spent finding a way to stretch our increasingly thin budget to buy a new heater. Between us we actually have 2275$ and we will still cover the mortgage. Somehow. All our Christmas gifts will be hand made this year. The next thing that breaks will stay broken.

Monday, power outages due to snow storm. No wifi, no zoom meetings. Another 8 inches of snow. This is now more snow than my city gets for the full year.

My boss calls sobbing. The dog died. Joey, an 11 year old, 130lb mastiff with a tumor the size of a football on his liver has been her constant companion for at least 8 years. The pandemic has confused the bejesus out of him because while he loves the lock down and going out to play every hour or so he doesnt really like the concept of strangers in masks. Hes a guard dog and doesnt understand that men in masks coming into the shop are not here to kill mom they're wearing masks so they don't kill mom.

Mondays the shop is closed anyway and I spend it installing the new heater. It doesn't quite fit in the space the old heater came out of but its warm.

Tuesday, I go to work, everyone cancels class, I once again gently explain to a regular that eugenics is bad. I would like to curse him out. I cant. He drops a grand on scuba gear and leaves, talking about how great his trip to Mexico will be.

I do not scream.

A friend calls to ask how I'm doing. Not great. Yea, her niether. She asks if I want to go out to the backcountry with her over the weekend. I explain that my leg physically does not move and I'm downing copious amounts of advil to remain upright. The doctor sent me in for an MRI but has not yet called back. Plus I'm supposed to go to Valdez for the weekend and actually go diving. That I can do with limited use of my leg.

She says yikes, take it easy, take care of yourself, I love you.

I say, yikes, I'm tired of taking it easy, I wanna play, I love you too.

Hit me up if your plans open up and we can do something gentle on your leg. She says.

God yes. The cold woods away from people sounds like paradise. I dont even care that it will cause me rending physical pain to get there. I need a break.

Its Wednesday. I go to school. I get pulled over. Miraculously I dont get a ticket. I'm white female and conventionaly attractive, maybe not so miraculous. I rolled through a stop sign but I'm pretty sure I couldn't afford a ticket.

I get a text in class. One of the instructors who works with the dive shop has tested positive for covid. I haven't seen the man in 2 months. I needed a spare instructor but he was nowhere to be found. But hey, evidently that's a good thing.

I go to work. I vacillate between doing the job a 4 people and having nothing to do.

I go to the grocery store because I misjudged my last monthly grocery run and even though I'm increasing my exposure I'm out of cheese and tea damnit.

The store is packed. Pandemic who?

My partner and I haven't had a date nite in a while and this week has been shitty. I want a nice dinner. I pick up a couple boxes of the carton sushi which isnt terrible and is about as nice as I can justify on the new budget. I grab a gallon of milk and a few other things. I forgot my wallet in the truck and the cashier is chill and sets my stuff aside while I grab it.

I pay and take my stuff home and realize I left one of my bags at the store. No cheese or tea for me.

Thursday. 10am my phone goes off with an emergency alert. The govoner has grown a spine in light of recent elections and is instituting a voluntary lock down. My state has 500 new cases a day. That might not sound like a lot but theres only 300,000 people in Alaska and we've got poor medical infrastructure.

Unfortunately Alaska is full of Alaskans and nobody can tell us what to do. Nothing changes. 7pm rolls around and I'm teaching scuba classes in the pool.

I load a few hundred pounds of scuba gear into the back of my truck. In a wet wetsuit. In the snow. In a fabric facemask. 6 feet apart. In the pool.

I dont get paid for pool time.

Over the summer we had 6 dive masters including me, all big burly dudes, much better suited to picking things up. Its November and I'm the only one.

The kids I'm teaching are going to Hawaii. They're 10 and 13 and so wildly excited about breathing underwater its beautiful to watch. And they're traveling to an island. In a pandemic.

Friday.

Unload scuba gear so it doesnt get stolen out of the back of my truck while I'm at class. Were doing a make up lab today. Hey of the five student in my class only one of us has covid so theres that.

My boss calls an let's me know that shes left for Valdez without me. If I'd like to make an 8 hour drive by myself in a snowstorm I'm welcome to follow.

I'm in class till an hour before shop closing. I'm not driving across town so I can run on the open sign for half an hour.

The shop stays closed on Friday.

Saturday.

I explained to everyone we had business with that the shop would be closed over the weekend and Friday. I planned on being in Valdez. Hell I canceled plans to be in Valdez.

I open the shop and immediately field calls about why we werent open. I start to explain about the Valdez trip and logistical difficulties and then I realize that shes not mad about that. The woman was here before I opened early this morning. We have never been open that early. The hours are on the door.

A regular comes in. Hes also confused as to why I'm here.

Sunday finds me curled up in bed, reluctant to leave. Getting out of bed has not played out well for me recently.

A friend comes over to chat with my partner about specialist rifle parts. This isnt that wierd, he works at a gun shop and they've been discussing upgrading my partners current rifle set up.

He is wearing a full Scottish kilt. Red tartan. Looks very lovely.

I make zucchini bread and my proportions are a little off because I have too much zucchini so it's a little over moist but it's good. I'm recovering from an asskicker of a week and next week will be better.

Monday morning:

Baby brother has covid

Dads getting the results of his rapid test tonight.

Mom isnt getting tested because she says she doesnt have symptoms but that's not the fucking point mom.

So, I'm not going home for thanksgiving. I'm not diving in Valdez. I'm not skiing backcountry.

I'm not sick. I'm not flat broke yet. I dont have a ticket. I have a job. I have people who care about me. Im managing my physical and mental health as best I can. Im just fucking exhausted.

hotness scale: extremely tall (over a foot taller than me! this is Very Important to the scale) and he seems to be a mere thread’s width away from Unhinged at all times, which i love. i also think it’s very sexy of him to still have such a monstrous way about himself (what with the roaring and the growling) 20something years post-curse.... makes me wonder very vividly if such energies carry to the b*droom........ *clears throat* 10/10

quality of character scale: it eternally amuses me that beast seems to learn almost Nothing over the course of this trilogy. he’s literally pro-isle the ENTIRE time jsjdndjdjd..... not great considering it puts him directly at odds with his son (and, like, with social progress) but he Does seem to act the way he does with the kingdom’s safety in mind! plus when he’s not accidentally supporting magical fascism he’s super dorky. i love his goofy dance moves 7.5/10

hotness scale: i wish i had nicer things to say about this man. he just....... bears so little resemblance to the original jafar it makes me :( maybe if he was more gangly, or if he carried himself w the same potent gay energy that og jafar has? itd also help it he wasnt a racist caricature. 4.5/10

quality of character scale: again, very much a racist caricature. jafar doesnt steal!!! why would This be what he chose to do with himself! but he does seem to be, perhaps, the least bad of the core four’s parents, which counts for something i suppose. 3/10

quality of character scale: he seems to be SO kind and sweet to his baby sons..... holding their little hands and such!!! and judging by how nervous the kids are i’d imagine it was primarily smee’s idea for them to go to auradon. extremely noble sacrifice for their benefit even though he’ll miss them 10/10!!!!!

hotness scale: every time i look at this man i think of this post. he’s the perfect amount of frumpy for my tastes and his voice is so unique!!!!! i’d let his z-band malfunction so he could *** ** ***** * ******* **** 9/10

quality of character scale: really really cares about his kids and wants them to be safe!! he raises his voice once which im not a huge fan of but i suppose it was justified given the circumstances. also that shot of him goofing about with d*le in the end scene shows remarkable capacity for forgiveness after decades of trauma and discrimination! what a guy. 9/10

hotness scale: honestly pretty young for my tastes. and i literally Always swipe left on athletes, so..... fine looking, but not for me. 5/10

quality of character scale: obviously he grows as the series progresses but i feel like jack is Always in the way of troy getting what he wants, which sucks. i like that he’s kinda goofy on his off hours with his family exactly as much as i Hate how much he yells when hes on the job. i do wish we lived in the timeline where he and miss darbus actually had that duet about their disagreements, though. 5/10

hotness scale: due to personal reasons i will be having bad taste. however, this man’s fashion sense in IMPECCABLE. i mean, the colors??? the unbuttoned collar???? come on now. there is also the gratuitous use of the d-word to consider......................... anyways 7.5/10

quality of character scale: it’s hard to tell how much of his interest in furthering troy’s career is out of sincerity and how much of it is sharpay nudging him. but either way the result is a man who supports his daughter unconditionally! he could be nicer to ryan, though (plus he’s an evil capitalist) 6/10

total score: 13.5/20 i feel like he and fulton have had Relations

hotness scale: listen, i’m a simple guy. i see a basic-looking man pursuing age gap romance in the midst of a mid-life crisis, i support him unconditionally. also i am just Really vibing with that oversized denim shirt on him!!! there’s an egregious amount of arm hair poking out that just works. good for him! and this is a small moment but i’m very flustered over his natural Touchy Feely instinct after wen pokes out his eye... however: man has no eyebrows. 8.5/10

quality of character scale: i’m not a child of divorce so i don’t know how this stuff works, but i feel like he springs a lot of major decisions on wen? not ideal. on the other hand, we DO stan that he has sydney move in before they’re married. this is not a christian home!!!! 6/10

total score: 14.5/20 probably my favorite lemonade mouth dad, but mostly because he’s like the only one paid any attention by the narrative

hotness scale: men really have beautifully sculpted noses and we just let them, huh. i’m definitely overusing the word Handsome in this list, but in this case? i’m justified. mr banjaree’s beard suits him SO well and his hair looks so soft...... and we love the implicit cleanliness of a man who wears socks in the house! 8/10

quality of character scale: i super SUPER dont agree with this man’s Smothering-Adjacent Methods (and also i know firsthand that strict parentage just drives kids to be more rebellious, lmao) but all things considered he really just wants the best for his family PLUS he’s willing to meet mo halfway at the end! :’) 6/10

hotness scale: another chapter in the saga of unbuttoned collars! doesn’t get a lot of opportunities to show off his strengths but i appreciate that he is not the thinnest dad in town 6.5/10

quality of character scale: WOW fuck this guy. very dismissive of stella’s aspirations!!!!! i don’t like that he feels the need to talk Over her to her mom when he’s asking about her vegetarianism. dude she is right there.... however it’s a lil touching when he holds her guitar up at the end, so... 4/10?

hotness scale: in keeping this Specific to the feature-length xmas special, i will say that bob duncan is QUITE handsome! disappointed that he was wearing a shirt in the scene at the pool.... ill bet if this movie came out post-workout/makeover he’d have been shirtless >:/ i feel robbed... spare tummy, sir? spare tummy? additionally i love a man who rolls up his sleeves AND a man who stans kaiju movies!! also i love that he, quite literally, canonically fucks 8.5/10

quality of character scale: he’s about as charmingly incompetent as he is in the show, but the difference here is that he literally did not do a damn thing wrong! all he wanted to do was be civil with his inlaws and he frankly deserves MUCH better. its clear from his banter with the kids that he loves them very much (also i love how frequently he feels the need to jump/dive for things in this movie. silly slapstick icon) 8.75/10

hotness scale: this man was MADE for me. the bottomless collection of hawaiian shirts....... the TWO tummy out scenes..........the fucked up evil thing his voice does when the kids try to steal the spellbook!!! he really has it all. also i love that he is truly just trying to have some beach intercourse 9/10

quality of character scale: i love that even when he doesn’t remember the kids he still maintains a little dadly rapport with them? the instincts...... it’s also incredibly good of him to relive his decision to give up his magic without hesitation once he realizes the severity of the situation :’0 10/10

total score: 19/20 i’ve never seen an episode of the show but im really about to start

neil morris (dadnapped)

hotness scale: handsome....... mr morris makes me feel simultaneously like a sapiosexual AND a morosexual because although he completed enough schooling to become a dentist, he also threw it away for a writing career like an absolute champ. also i find it unbelievably charming how Along For The Ride he is about the idea of being kidnapped. a man after my own heart 8.25/10

quality of character scale: this is a tricky one...... neil DOES show active concern for his daughter’s safety when push comes to shove, but he also has my least favorite type of redemption arc: “you THOUGHT i was neglecting you, but actually i was thinking about you the whole time and just never expressed it! we good?” so like. bleh. but he’s pretty mild mannered which i deeply appreciate in a man! 6.5/10

major joe mason (princess protection program)

hotness scale: prime dad bod, very believable for his line of work. also he has such a Gentle Way about himself when he’s around princesses....... i love all the hand holding when he’s escorting rosie. absolutely my type 8.75/10

quality of character scale: gosh.... where do i even BEGIN!!! his whole dynamic with carter is so ideal... i was apprehensive at first because his job would require him to be Absent a lot of the time, but upon reflection it’s clear that he’s raised carter well enough that he can totally trust her to be on her own, and also she’s only sad to see him go because she sincerely enjoys his company. everything about his profession is so noble and i love the way he can carry himself as casually or as politely as a given situation calls for. worst thing he does is say “i might have to stop calling you ‘pal’” because his daughter is wearing a pretty dress. i wish he was my dad but i’ll settle for him being my husband 9.75/10

hotness scale: athletes arent sexy!! this guy’s face screams The Only Websites I Know How To Use Are Facebook And Reddit and also he’s a dog person BUT he is sporting quite the tumbey if i do say so myself and for that i shall let him live. 4/10

quality of character scale: ok i know the whole point of this movie is Boys Bad but i hate men who are loud and i hate dads who get Weird about the inherent femininity of their daughters. when he calls zoey “sport” and then cringes like he’s made a mistake? dumb and unnecessary. HOWEVER all of his efforts to bond with zoey are really really sincere. like when he fixes her music box? that has NOTHING to do with the app he just Does It!!!! the movey mightve rubbed off on me a little too much but there are multiple ways to show love and just bc im not used to his way doesnt mean it has no worth! 6/10

hotness scale: this man dresses 5-10 years younger than he looks and i respect that for him. but i was expecting him to be a bit more of a slimeball considering how tara talks about him in the opening scene... and you guys know how much i love slimeballs. regardless, pretty handsome! 6.5/10

quality of character scale: it’s nice that he goes to such a Public and Corporate effort to connect to his stepdaughter! even if it’s in a way that financially benefits him, it’s pretty clear that he cares about this family and wants to do right by them. nothing exceptional, though 7/10

total score: 13.5/20 i GUESS i’d be down to smash if he asked

ralph bartlett (read it and weep)

hotness scale: ok i was gonna say something mean about the fact that he’s balding but honestly he has really nice arms........ in addition he’s really quirky and optimistic which i am going to admire into my grave!! when he gets excited about having customers during the finale his voice quirks with an almost charlie day-esque charm. handsome. ALSO he calls jamie “princess” which is!!!!!!! something 7.5/10

quality of character scale: the way ralph parents his kids is Very 2000s in that he kinda babies his daughter but gets to pal around with his son, but i guess both dynamics come from a place of love and he could be doing much worse. plus he’s an honest hardworking small business owner! i support him 7/10

dr james hartley (how to build a better boy)

hotness scale: THIS. THIS IS WHAT DCOM DADDIES ARE ALL ABOUT. gosh..... this is truly the Most dad ive ever seen in my life. i love how his hair is always mussed..... how he’s so Desperate to relax that he falls asleep after Fifteen Seconds of smooth jazz..... and also. like. hes a scientist?? hello??? pretty sexy of him. i want to give this man the relaxation he deserves 10/10

quality of character scale: ok so,,,...,, kinda fucked up that he lied to his whole family (with the possible exception of his wife—sidenote, WHY did they make dr hartley married? his wife never comes up except when bart says she’s out of town. let him be single so i can slide into those dms) and EXTRA kinda fucked up that he works for the government? what a scab. BUT it’s very very clear that he cares about his kids (and gabby) and prioritizes their safety above all else! also, did you SEE how happy he was when mae won homecoming queen....... he loves her so so so much! :’0 8.5/10

That’s very self aware of you, I think-- probably too self aware. You’re absolutely right to say it’s the trying that matters, but I’m not gonna blame you for worrying about it. I have similar concerns about myself sometimes. I’m aware that for me personally they’re partially justified. Some of my kindness is self motivated.

I think though (and it seems like you already know this) it’s the effect of the kindness that matters. Maybe it’s better for me if I have “pure” intentions, but if I don’t, I should still do the kind things anyway, right? Because at the end there’s still going to be good. And there’s nothing bad about actively trying to be good, which is all we’re doing.

hey i just saw in your tags that you got an adhd diagnosis.. would it be cool if i asked you how you went about getting diagnosed? im welsh too and ive been dealing with the welsh nhs mental health department for years and i genuinely feel like im going nowhere with it all. its totally cool if you dont wanna talk about it tho i understand its a v personal topic! :)

heads-up: i’m still in the process of getting a medical diagnosis for adhd (not from nhs wales, i moved to england... quite a while ago). the service in cambridgeshire is, as far as i know, aware of my existence......... and that’s basically all they’ve told me so far Y E E T

i do however have an educational diagnosis! which does not entitle me to medication (hence the medical route) but is accepted by my university as sufficient evidence to justify reasonable adjustments, and...... is also apparently enough evidence for the government to give me money? but i still have to spend ages waiting on the nhs............ hmm. anyway yeah that was mostly organise thru my uni which may or may not be possible for u? idk

basically my route to diagnosis was:

1) realise towards the end of summer between 1st and 2nd year of uni that what i had assumed was some kind of undiagnosed depression could be symptoms of adhd, thanks to a friend of mine discussing how their adhd affected them, and then realising i exhibited Other symptoms

2) emailing the student disability centre........ not As Soon As Possible, but pretty soon after i got back to uni, in which i expressed a desire to come in and discuss assessments for potential splds (specific learning difficulties, idk if that’s jargon only used by our uni or not?) (also yeah part of this was “i did research and loads of things overlap so Who Knows What This Is” and part was “....do not want to assume i have adhd” just in case)

3) having an appointment with one of the uni specialists several weeks later, having filled out a question on Things Affecting My Life, then in the appointment doing some of the typical pre-tests and answering interview questions, which suggested probably adhd and dyspraxia and gave them enough to advise me to go get Diagnosed

this is a step that might vary from place to place bc i know for one thing that one of my friend’s unis has their own assessor, but mine doesn’t, so they tend to rely on an external one in london...... which is private. they covered most of the funds costs for the assessment but still oof

4) get the train to london during december for a 3-hour assessment with a specialist doing all sorts of fun tests, after which she said that i’d need to wait for the report to be finalised but she felt comfortable diagnosing me with co-existent adhd and dyspraxia (or the weird grey area where some of those bits might cross over with symptoms of the joint hypermobility fuckery that runs in my family but either way presents and is managed in the same way)

5) get the report about 2 weeks later (plus a bit bc christmas and new year) confirming everything and including some fun test stats and analysis, organise a GP’s appointment for the NHS route + other medical shit i need sorted and talk to the student centre to organise a student support document + other shit i qualify for like mentoring and Things That Cost Money

GP appointment ends up with a paper pack of stuff i need to post by the end of the month (which of course i delayed until the last minute and wasn’t sure if i posted on time), SSD takes a few more weeks to organise/write and then a few more to distribute to all relevant staff. eventually found out the cambs nhs clinic have apparently accepted me when they sent me info about gdpr they’d forgotten to send and the letter header said smth about “acceptance” but that’s the last i heard from them like.... a month or two ago???? idk oof

anyway yeah so i have enough of a diagnosis to qualify for student support and provide supporting evidence for nhs route when that actually finally gets going somewhere but..... it is taking a while (i think fams on the local fb page are saying like, 6 months is typical? ugh) and the only reason i’m still pushing it is bc i want to try options for treatment rather than just symptoms management.

a few people have/are considering going the private medical route just bc things are taking so long except 1) that costs Ridiculously Lots Of Money which...... afaik this time the university won’t pay for and 2) although there is a degree of transfer between private and nhs you can do, if you get your original prescription from a private doctor and it’s not effective or has side effects i think you need to go back to a private doctor to change medication or increase/decrease the dosage, you can’t just switch to your gp and be like “ay mate”. so that costs Even More. honestly i think i only know of it as an option bc i am surrounded by People With Money and it’s not cheap even for them

so yeah, TLDR: i have a diagnosis which is just enough to access adjustments at uni and potentially look into supportive things that cost money like software etc, but am unfortunately in what sounds like a similar boat to you regarding nhs, which i am pursuing to see if this is indeed an option.

but i hope to fucking god that trump gets voted out in the elections next year. honest to fuck, you guys deserve a leader that can actually run the country, and who will remove those awful and devastating border camps where those two kids died on christmas; and whatever other goddamn fuckery that trump has introduced during his presidency.

aside from the obvious thing of trump.... the minimum wage post i reblogged, where you guys are fighting for at least $15 an hour for minimum, is happening in reverse here in australia... where some businesses like uber or dilveroo are paying people $6 an hour bc they say the american way of running their business is apparently justified in australia.... instead of paying at least $15 an hour for, well, kids to work in fast food (eg. dilveroo) or whatever. it’s more once you get into your 20s- like $22.50 an hour I think? I haven’t looked it up in forever. but that’s how much Uber drivers are getting now after the government and said to Uber that they actually needed to pay proper wages to their workers.

hell, even the government here is apparently supporting shitty “internships” at the aussie branch of burger king, Hungry Jacks, where hungry jacks wants to pay $4 an hour for people to work for government work skills programs, or whatever.

i also found a shitty and shifty asf internship provider last month, which i almost signed up to, where they full on avoided telling you what you’d be paid in your “stipend” that you’d get on your 6 month internships with them.... and they didn’t even tell you the fee for the program.... which would literally be like $500. we’re getting as bad as the US when it comes to unpaid or super underpaid internships, or fucky businesses that refuse to pay the right wages- ie. the actual minimum wage required by australian law.

Hey Pratty babe, I wanted to ask a few questions about the amazon wage hike thing (I swear I’m not Bezos or an Amazon PR guy lol). So, I’m many states, the state minimum wage is not much more than the federal minimum ($7.25/hr), whereas some states have a state minimum of $15 already. So, if you live in a state where the minimum is already $15, that sucks, but amazon at least increased the salary by $1. If you lived elsewhere, say Oregon, and your wage went from $11.25 to $15/hr, you’re looking

If your monthly bonus was $650 or more before, then yeah you’re losing money, but that’s assuming you get that bonus every month. I’m only 22 (so inexperienced and stupid), but I’ve been working minimum wage jobs since I was 16. I’m a hard worker, so I could usually advocate for performance-based raises or bonuses, but there’s no one more creative than an employer justifying now giving you a merit-based raise.(3/3) As such, isn’t a guaranteed wage from an increased hourly rate better for the lower-tier workers than the promise of a potential bonus, especially when those bonuses could be slashed or taken away entirely at the drop of a hat? I work for tips, I know it’s a bit stressful not knowing how much you’re gonna make in a month, so I would think at the very least the increased financial security would be a good thing for worker mentality, especially when it means not appeasing a boss to get paid

Yea, the bonuses are nice, but its not like you can budget ahead for months predicated on working at 110% 7 days a week, for the whole year. The bonuses incentivize productivity above your pay grade, some of them involved being given ONLY if the entire warehouse hit a target, which is like. next to impossible. Unless like, EVERYONE starts peeing in bottles to maximize productivity. lol

And also, of course, the loss of stock equity. which is like, you dont get to have a stake in the growth and profit of the company anymore also.

Anyway, the minimum wage hike (by paying for it via slashing bonuses) is mostly political. To put ice on bad publicity as well as broadside efforts to unionize both at Amazon and in Whole foods, which it just acquired (forces union supports to find a new rallying cry around besides the fight for 15).

But additionally, it give amazon leverage against competitors to fill on new hires for seasonal work (christmas is coming up!) and retain them as amazon increases automation.

And the political nature of the raise is working. even bernie sanders praised it, which is like , lmao dude. Spoken like a tru guy who has never worked a real job a day in his life

judaism in the zones

there are a lot of jewish communities in the zones, cause i mean, we kinda have practice being nearly killed and living anyway. most are communities have been there since the start of the analog wars many jewish people didn’t even move to battery city when it opened because their advertising has always been…questionable.

some did move to the city, but it’s much less than would be proportional

with so many jewish people out in the zones, some of jewish culture probably bled out into general zone culture, too

most obviously - taking dead zonerunners’s mask to the pheonix witch’s mailbox!! there’s a huge obligation among zonrunners to do this for each other, no matter what kind of relationship you had with the person, which is definitely related to the mitzvah of helping burying the dead

sukkot is probably one of the most recognizably shared holidays in the zones, since i mean successful harvests (for the settlements that have farms) are very important for trying to get by out in the zones.

zonerunners probably associate apples and honey more with sukkot than rosh hashona, people from all over probably go to jewish settlements for trading and celebration, and it probably spreads from there than in the fall there’s food and celebration

forgiveness between rosh hashona and yom kippur can spread in the zones in two ways:

1) around sukkot celebrations people going in to trade and ask for forgiveness/repentance/repair relationships around this time when theres a lot more commerce and people are more likely to see each other, or

2) they take ‘new year’ to mean the georgian new year, in the winter, like between christmas & new years people ask for forgiveness, cause who knows how smart they are out there in the zones

im leaning towards the first one, because the jewish zonerunners would know when rosh hashona starts, and some would be asking for forgiveness even to non jewish zonerunners which would kinda ripple out and everyone picks up on it, which probably jewish zonerunners find kinda funny, cause they’re like 2 weeks late but, but yeah, they forgive u

actually if theres no easy way to keep track of time in the zones they might pick up rosh hashona as the new year, like if there’s no easy way to keep track of when december 31/january 1 happens, why not just transplant new year celebrations to when people who are keeping track of time are saying a new year is coming?

i dont think keeping the sabbath has really spread into non jewish zonerunner culture

passover is definitely huge to jewish zonerunners, but again it doesn't have a lot of elements that have been carried over into general zone culture.

resisting bli is definitely part of tikkun olam

which is probably related to: new zonerunners who don’t know much of zone culture being assholes fuck you val velocity because violent resistance and gang wars are easy to justify if you don’t think it’s everyone responsibility to help change things

Auto Insurance Question on a Hit and Run?

So Friday morning, my fiance' and I were headed to New Jersey to visit his family for Christmas. On the way there, I was driving his truck so he could sleep a little before we switched places. I stopped at a red light, which had another light very close behind it which turned green, my idiot self was looking at that light for some reason while our light was still red...I hit the gas and then slammed on my breaks realizing what I was doing but it was too late and I hit a guy on the side of the door. It wasn't a big wreck. The guy didn't fly across the intersection. He didn't even move, his door was just dented and it will definitely need to be replaced but the man said he was not hurt at all. The truck we were driving in barely had damage, just a little dent in the hood that was very small to the eye and a bent license plate. We were in much better shape; but again, he was not in pain and his door was the only thing that seemed to be damaged. ANYWAYS, I received a traffic ticket for failing to obey a traffic light which I totally accept because this was extremely stupid of me and I am planning on mailing the fine to the court. So since I was driving my fiance's car, which is under his parents insurance, I assume my insurance is not affected. The trooper just told us that the other guy's insurance will contact my fiance's insurance. So I am thinking all I have to do is just pay this awful fine. (Also, I am lazy and passive enough to not pursue too hard for a minor dent.) After arbitration settlement other person filed a lawsuit against me in small claims court. I was pretty sure that a judge cant do anything after arbitration. To my surprise judge assessed that out of $800 - $250 was the deductible paid by other person. Prior Arbitration did not include that amount hence he can adjudicate on this $250. He adjudicated against me for $250 + legal fee. Judge also told me that I need not worry about this money as my insurance will pay for it. (Most ridiculous judge and judgment I have ever seen, but thats a separate matter) I called up my insurance company. They are willing to pay this amount.
