Arcane Arts In CRK
There are five primary schools of magic: Dessert, Black, Moon, White, and Nature. There are also other schools of magic, such as Coffee Magic, Latte Magic, and potentially Pomegranate Magic based on Pomegranate Cookie’s skill name and spells.
This is basically just me covering what I know about these arcane arts and making some speculations, as we admittedly don’t know much about them. If I got anything wrong or missed anything, feel free to correct me or contribute to the post. Just be respectful about it, ofc.
~Dessert Magic~
Dessert Magic is probably one of the most confusing types because of how vague it is compared to the other primary schools. Based on the description provided by Devsisters in their official cards, these spells draw power from sugar, cream, and chocolate. The question here is what is meant by desserts and how they impact the power of the magic.
In my personal opinion, I believe the “dessert” in question is actually referring to the Cookie casting the spell. Cookies are a kind of dessert, as we all know, and it’s possible that Dessert Magic is actually the generic magic that Cookies have. This magic could even be shared with other races, such as the Sugar Gnomes and Bear Jellies, due to its nature. Since this magic’s power relies on the contents of the dessert in question, sweeter Cookies like Cream Puff Cookie would be capable of casting stronger spells than not-so-sweet Cookies like Oyster Cookie.
Assuming that it is the generic/basic magic that all Cookies can potentially use, it’s likely that this magic is one of the main schools taught in the Parfaedia Institute, given that Parfaedia has a prominent dessert aesthetic. It’s also possible that not all Cookies use their magic, in this case, or don’t expand on their usage of it.
~Black Magic~
Black Magic is the arcane art used by Cookies like Dark Enchantress Cookie and Licorice Cookie. According to the official card released by Devsisters, magic that falls under this category draws power from the “cosmic void” rather than celestial bodies. Whether the “cosmic void” refers to the general expanse of outer space or some legitimate Void Realm in the Cookie Run universe isn’t specified, but I’m assuming its the former. So far, we haven’t heard anything about a “Void” existing in the Cookie Run universe, with the closest thing being the Rifts that bring monsters/creatures from other worlds.
The official card says that Black Magic enables users to cast spells for mind control, transfiguration, and curses. It also says that these spells are generally very destructive and dangerous, capable of upsetting the forces of nature. We can assume that necromancy would fall under this category, along with whatever spell Licorice Cookie used in Episode 13 to awaken the Licorice Sea’s creatures. Considering that curses fall under this category of magic, it’s possible that Affogato Cookie could also use some form of Black Magic, although his curses can also be attributed to the incense-like things he leaves around.
Interestingly, the official card doesn’t say anything about this kind of magic being banned, outlawed, or frowned upon. Although we can assume that’s the case, given the kind of spells and the people who generally use them, I still thought it could be interesting to have a character who uses these kinds of spells for good objectives. Or perhaps a morally gray character? I think we could use more of those. A little off topic, but I think one of the best examples we have of a morally gray character is Clotted Cream Cookie, whether you love him or hate him.
~Moon Magic~
Although I’m referring to it as Moon Magic, the official card specifically addresses Dark Moon Magic. We’ve been told that different forms of moon-related magic exist in the Cookie Run universe; Wizard Cookie refers to Dark Moon Magic in Episode 8 of World Exploration, while Pomegranate Cookie refers to Crescent Moon Magic in Episode 10 and Cream Puff Cookie refers to that same magic in one of her lines. I could’ve swore that “Crimson Moon Magic” was referenced once in the story somewhere, but I could be getting things mixed up. Regardless, we can assume that multiple categories of Moon Magic exist based on this info.
What I find interesting is that both forms of magic mentioned above are supposedly forbidden. When they’re brought up in the World Exploration scenarios, the characters say that these spells are banned. Similar to how Dessert Magic draws power from sugars and sweets and Black Magic draws power from the “cosmic void”, Moon Magic draws power from the moon. Since Dark Moon Magic draws power specifically from the dark side of the moon, we can assume that Crescent Moon Magic draws power specifically from the crescent phase.
From what we know, the Moonstone used to contain Dark Enchantress Cookie was created with Dark Moon Magic. Or, at the very least, it was involved in White Lily Cookie’s final experiment at the Blueberry Yogurt Academy, when she transformed the inhabitants into spirits. According to Pomegranate Cookie, Pure Vanilla Cookie used Crescent Moon Magic when he fought against Dark Enchantress Cookie at the end of the Prologue.
With this in mind, I’m curious as to whether or not Moonlight Cookie and the Wizards have/had some connection with Moon Magic. Considering her name is Moonlight Cookie and all, does she use some form of Moon Magic? Does she at least have knowledge of it? Looking at her Ovenbreak costumes, it’s possible that there could be some sort of “Crimson Moon Magic” and “Full Moon Magic”, nodding to her Blissful Full Moon and Alluring Crescent Moon costumes, although the latter could simply have a red color palette to convey the supposed evilness of that form.
Personally, I really don’t think it’s too farfetched to think that the Wizards could’ve meddled with Moon Magic of some kind. As we know from Episodes 15 and 16, the Wizards sought to create “perfection” in Cookies, going through painstaking experiments to create Moonlight Cookie. Wizard Cookie also mentions that the Wizards carefully selected the location of their city to be where the moon’s power was strongest. Considering this and the strong celestial aesthetic in the City of Wizards, I’m very inclined to believe that there was some sort of involvement with Moon Magic.
~White Magic~
White Magic is the magic that appears to be primarily used in the Vanilla Kingdom, Creme Republic, and potentially used by the St. Pastry Order to “purge” the unclean. While it’s deliberately stated that Pure Vanilla Cookie used White Magic, it’s mostly speculated/presumed that the Republic and its Paladins use this field of magic as well.
In the official card, it says that White Magic draws power from the full moon. In a sense, I suppose this can be considered “Full Moon Magic”, but we’ll have to wait and see. White Magic is mostly associated with healing and is seen as a counterpart/opposite to Dark Moon Magic. So it really is looking like White Magic can also be called “Full Moon Magic”, although given their names, it would make more sense for White Magic to be the opposite of Black Magic. Regardless, an interesting fact is that, unlike the other known forms of magic that are connected to the moon, White Magic is not forbidden in any known way.
As I said, the use of White Magic in the St. Pastry Order is just speculation. I don’t believe any of the characters associated with it have mentioned White Magic before. But I think it’s reasonable to assume such, considering that it seems to be viewed as a kind of “holy” magic, that the St. Pastry Order would use it for its own twisted and dark objectives. If you think about it, that fits the entire narrative and theme of what exactly the Order is.
~Nature Magic~
Nature Magic is probably one of the easiest arcane arts to understand. As the name suggests, it focuses on the elemental forces of nature. It’s mostly seen being associated with the Elemental Guardians, such as Sea Fairy Cookie and Millennial Tree Cookie.
According to the official card, there are five elements that fall under Nature Magic: Grass, Water, Wind, Fire, and Earth. The card also draws a distinction between these elements, claiming that the first three are more peaceful and the last two are more destructive. Additionally, the card also claims that this field of magic is primarily used by fairies, beasts, and the spirits of nature.
Given their role as Guardians, we can assume that Legendaries like Sea Fairy Cookie and Millennial Tree Cookie have the most potent magical energy. Especially Millennial Tree Cookie.
~Coffee Magic~
Coffee Magic is one of the arcane arts that, to my knowledge, does not have an official card that gives a brief description of it. Everything we know about it, which admittedly isn’t very much, comes from the game itself. What we do know about it is that Espresso Cookie is a powerful wielder of it and that it’s potentially a very advanced or difficult art, given that the “Theorems of Coffee Magic” class he teaches is considered an advanced course. And if you don’t know what theorem means, it basically means something that can be considered true through logical reasoning. Or something like that. But the advanced placement of the course could also be because of how Espresso Cookie might be as a teacher.
The difficulty of learning Coffee Magic and the fact that we only know two characters to be confirmed users of it most likely stems from the fact that Coffee Magic is relatively new. At least, on a worldwide scale or in terms of being officially recognized as an arcane art. Given the name of it, we can assume that Coffee Magic traces its roots back to the old Coffee Tribe in the Dark Cacao Kingdom, like how Pomegranate Cookie’s magic traces back to the Pomegranate Village. Additionally, the fact that Espresso Cookie is constantly trying to expand upon it and perfect it can be considered an indicator that not much is known about Coffee Magic’s capabilities and full potential.
Just like with Moon Magic, it’s possible that there are variants or different categories of Coffee Magic. While Espresso Cookie simply refers to his craft as Coffee Magic, Latte Cookie refers to “Latte Magic”. Aside from the fact that a latte is basically just coffee with milk, Latte Cookie’s in-game description says that she and Espresso Cookie worked alongside each other to study Coffee Magic.
The potential variants/branches of Coffee Magic, and the potential that it originates from the Coffee Tribe, could indicate that Affogato Cookie is a user of it as well.
~Dream Magic~
I believe Dream Magic has only been referred to once in the entire story, and I forget if it was in Episode 15 or 16, but Wizard Cookie stated that Moonlight Cookie is the “master” of this arcane art. Based on the name, I’m going to assume that this magic draws power from the World of Dreams, and that those who are associated with it can use this magic.

Really enjoying this tumblr era of exploring dragon shouts.
We got a taste of KUNGPOWPENIS, and now we’re all noble scholars spending days in hushed rooms reading ancient tomes, just to produce MOUSEGIRLPENIS. I just saw some poor sod reduced to a comedic pile of ash from a single blast.
Tumblr really is the most website ever.
