Bro... what if noe was never actually injured when he got scooped up by the teacher...
Like what if the traffickers tied up one of his eyes so he had little to no chance of manipulating the formula to escape or worst 😭
Like we know the weight eyes have on vampires, as seen by the churchs methods and ruthvens whole shtick; the traffickers could have harmed him to hamdicap him somewhat, but given he 1) hasnt lost his eye, and 2) the traffickers likely knew his value, its highly unlikely they would permanently disfigure/harm him
Interesting thought!
My one counterpoint to the theory of him not being injured at all is that we do see Noé keep the bandages on for a while after he first starts staying at Teacher's, and I can't think of a reason why Teacher wouldn't have removed them pretty quickly if Noé weren't hurt.
The panel with Domi and Louis is from pretty soon after Teacher brings Noé home, but the other scene shows Noé in a different outfit, and Teacher is back from wherever he disappeared to after dropping Noé off, so I think it must be set at least a day or two later. That's plenty of time for Noé to take off the bandages, so why not do so if he isn't hurt?
However, you do raise a really good point about how removing the use of one eye is an effective way to disable a vampire, since it interferes with their ability to manipulate the world formula. Not wanting to "damage the merchandise" aside, if the traffickers weren't otherwise prepared to wrangle a vampire child, temporarily injuring one of Noé's eyes could have been a pretty effective way to make sure he didn't make too much trouble while in their custody.
Based on present day Noé's seemingly functional eyesight, we know that, like you said, whatever happened to him probably didn't cause significant permanent damage. That wouldn't have been wise on the kidnappers' part, and even if Noé never talked about it, I feel like we would have seen evidence by now if he had damaged vision in one eye. But a temporary injury that the traffickers knew he'd heal from eventually? It's cruel, but it's not a bad idea.
#I'd been passively assuming that his injury had to have come from some kind of Incident#the thought of them injuring him on purpose for a handicap is. god#practical but upsetting. thanks for putting that idea in my head 👍#vnc#vanitas no carte#the case study of vanitas#ask#anon#theory#noé archiviste#noé archiviste my beloved#ID in alt text#others' meta#now I'm getting curious to dig back through and double check that there's no evidence of him having problems with his left eye#I'm pretty certain there isn't. but I've missed things before

When people continually whitewash my favourite characters.

[ID: A black and white, rough digital drawing of someone sitting at a desk and clutching their head in their hands. End ID.]
^thank you @describe-things
#This is mainly about Noé Archiviste. But also I will not forget what some people did to Simon Petrikov either when I was watching f&c#I’m so desperate for drawings of them. But for the love of God,is it that difficult? Somehow every other hexadecimal of their#Character design is exactly on model other than their skin. Just. .#OH YEAH I FORGOT KAEYA. FFS. Somehow it’s always the K**luc-ers that always do it. Which makes sense because they disregard his entire char#And with the new influx of atla fans people have been whitewashing Katara too! And I mean drawings of the original show too#probably delete later#And no one seems to have any problems with it? Especially if it’s sexualised art *talking more about Kaeya & Noé here.#People who whitewash the few (and when I say few I literally mean 5/82 playable characters) darker genshin characters. Actually fuck off#If I see ‘it’s just my art style’ or ‘it’s just the lighting’ *every other colour than the skin hasn’t been lightened in the slightest*#One more time-i’m going to explode#Oh and while I’m on this topic! Fuck Bochum for whitewashing literally the entire starlight express cast! Electra being the first ever#non binary character in musical theatre while also being played by black actors. This Week of Weird and Terrible Things in Mylar Sleeves

1) Some of the most EGREGIOUS mold I’ve ever seen in a processed collection (in a mylar sleeve of the kind where only two ends are sealed, hence a useless gesture on the part of whoever let this ride)

2) An EXTREMELY BRITTLE newspaper page folded up and stuffed into a mylar sleeve (you can take it out of the sleeve but GODSPEED with trying to unfold it without the paper crunching into a thousand crusty pieces)

3) A strangely sticky piece of…plastic? In a folder that contained concept drawings for some kind of unrealized space-baby themed toy

(the mylar sleeve did not prevent my curiosity from getting the better of me, which is why I know the thing inside is sticky and have some unsettling regrets about that now)

4) A beautiful theatrical set rendering on lovely paper, with two sleeves on either end and then BRUTALLY FOLDED IN HALF so it could fit in a normal legal sized file folder…even though the other renderings from that same play were housed FLAT in an appropriately sized mapcase folder!!

#original post#original content#conservation#preservation#library#archives#sometimes the sleeve doesn’t do anything#many times it just creates a different problem#mylar#archivist#archives nonsense#archival nonsense#found in the archives#why is it sticky is it how it always was maybe I don’t want to know

oh star wars insider 199 if only you were the latest thing published and, thus, would be þee moste canonical according to the hierarchy because your wording is very suggestive (though an impossibility, given the whole “some days he’s lucid, others I find him curled up in a ball in his quarters” from dooku: jedi lost).
(the possibility of a point in time where jocasta nu, sifo-dyas, and dooku were on the high council at the same time, raised by this 2020 article is stupendous)
#keeping up with the skywalkers#back to examining the structure of the jedi order bc i looked at the council of 1st knowledge/librarians/educorps/reassignment organization#and it loops back on itself. there is a problem here.#and it is that the people who did it don't understand the difference between archivist & librarian

Surprisingly, despite being part of the horror genre, TMA does a lot for keeping my anxiety in check. I’ll have a thought like “Everyone thinks I’m stupid and shallow and nobody can nor will see me as I am!”and then go “Hmm.. this is kind of like the Lonely” and think about Martin instead of… um.. spiraling.
#bonemeal says silly stuff#It has also solved my anxiety feedback loop problem!!!!#Cause now instead of noticing my fear and hyper focusing on that in a way that won’t let me leave the fear#I notice the fear and go ‘FEAR?!?!?!?!? JUST LIKE?!?!?! JUST LIKE THE MAGNUS ARCHIVES!?!!?!!!??!!’#Deeply overwhelmed by the amount of work I have in a way that keeps me from working#and I think ‘who else has an overwhelming amount of work? JONATHAN SIMS HEAD ARCHIVIST OF THE MAGNUS INSTITUTE!’#and it inspires me to take everything statement by statement#piece by piece#Like all shocking amount of my negative (and positive) thoughts can be connected back to the archives#It’s probably because im stuck in the first moment of an obsession where#EVERYTHING is about it and it’s the only thing I can think about#BUT! Proving useful thus far. I’m having a very scary and stressful time and this is great.#Bad thing is uh. It’s difficult to pay attention in class when my head is so full of TMA#I listen to TMA in art class and draw it in every other one#tma

Unsolicited tmagp rant no one asked for part 3 (hang in there guys this is a very all over the place one):
So. Idea. We know someone, presumably the OIAR, is listening. They’re able to tap cellphones and things too, not just listening through the office computers. It definitely could be the OIRA, they do seem like a likely suspect, they’re a government branch, they’d have the power, but what if it’s not them?
It’s not unreasonable to say the OIAR is connected to the eye, if the fears work the same in this universe (I’m running on the assumption they do) the it makes sense. Cataloging supernatural statements, sounds familiar. But we don’t know how long the recordings been going on. My thinking is that it’s Jon, maybe Martin? And Jonah, who is the most likely Augustus. So we’ve got two eye avatars in these computers, how do we know it’s not them listening in and tapping the phones and everything? We don’t know how much autonomy they have currently, I don’t think Jon (Chester) would choose to listen in, but maybe he’s making an exception since it’s a new universe? Or it’s involuntary, that he’s not able to control it, just needs to watch.
There’s also the case of Colin. He knows something for sure, whether that’s mainly paranoid driven conspiracy theories or actual information is yet to be seen. But it’s not hard to figure out whatever is going on is connected in some way to FR3-D1. Now the fact that Colin is sneaking some time on the computer in episode 10 is pretty telling. He knows he’s that messing with them could raise suspicion, seeing as he asks Celia to not tell Lena. He was using the work computers specifically so he needs to access something in FR3-D1’s program presumably. If he’s poking around in that code, digging through stuff he knows he shouldn’t, it makes me wonder if he knows about Jon, Martin, and Jonah(?). Because this man is thoroughly obsessed with this system, has spent nearly two years trying to figure out how it works. The voices have been reading out statements for a year.
I think the big thing about how much he’s noticed has to do with whether or not Jon and friends are actually coded in. Ofc with eldritch powers and stuff it’s possible they’re just there, consciouses stuck in there by spooky magic stuff. But to me at least, having their brains coded into this computer on its own is scarier. Think back to tma 65. About how you just couldn’t code someone’s mind into a computer, how the one story of a man who tried ended up stuck and awful and in pain. “The angles cut me when I think.” And I’m terrified that’s what’s happening to my boys right now, that they were somehow coded into this, and in pain because of it.
So if that’s the case and they have actual code there’s no doubt in my mind that Colin has seen that. And of course he’d know it’s not right, even if he doesn’t know for sure what it is. He also said that a YEAR ago (around the same time the voices would have started) he figured out it was “written with some kind of propriety German source code,” further supporting the idea that Augustus is Jonah. I also find it interesting the use of “propriety” here, maybe I’m looking into it too much, but a code isn’t something I’d describe like that. But the thoughts or brain of Jonah Magnus or something? I’d describe that as propriety. But if that is why it was in German, then they can affect the code in some sense, again, likely written in. He read what that code said, and if it said anything about Jonah, he would have seen it. He’d combed through this whole system enough to see something was written in German for god’s sake, IF THEY’RE CODED IN HES SEEN IT AND HE KNOWS.
I also find the interaction with Sam a bit weird, obviously, but I don’t mean the paranoia about being watched. When Sam brings up the email, he brushes it off. “If you’re going to get this worked up over a weird email, you’re going to freak when you see the real stuff.” I initially assumed he meant the statements by “real stuff.” But he doesn’t actually deal with statements. He could definitely mean the OIAR and how they’re (maybe) surveying them all. But just because the branch they work for is terrible and spies on them, that’s not really a good reason to brush off a weird INTERNAL email so quickly. Okay.
The OIAR is probably awful and evil. But they’re not gonna start sending emails from their servers from people who don’t officially exist. If I (someone who knows next to nothing about computers so don’t take my word for it) heard that there were internal emails being sent by someone not apart of the company, my rational assumption would be hacking, or some sort of security fault. But that’s not even a possibility to Colin, he accepts it’s weird without even thinking, and just says that there’s worse things. So if he’s not worried about it being hacking, I’m ready to guess he knows the emails are coming from the little computer men. So this isn’t a new thing. And I wonder if Jon tried sending Colin something before. So if a weird email is normal to Colin, and he knows where it’s from, then that’s probably what he’s referring to as “the real stuff.” Because the real stuff to him is computers, nothing else, to the point he dumps therapists cause they’re not tech savvy enough.
The bit in episode 1 is clearly suspicious too, “Best Colin can figure, something broke and whichever genius made the program ran some redundancy through the sound card.” BUT THATS NOT HOW IT WORKS. It was such a bad reason, that even Alice and Sam (who don’t have much knowledge of computers as far as I know) saw through it. Knowing Colin there’s no way in hell he’d come up with that theory and just be content to leave it be, and not spend all his time trying to figure out WHY. It was a lie, it has to be.
Now that was a very long and chaotic ramble, so uhh, to sum it up for folks who are smart enough not to read this, I think It’s Jon, Martin, and Jonah listening in and tapping phones, not the OIAR. And I think Colin knows they’re stuck in the computer, and is choosing not to tell anyone.

#my art#harry potter#art#ARCHIVISTTest… Test… Test… 1#1... 2... 3... Right#My name is Jonathan Sims. I work for the Magnus Institute#London#an organisation dedicated to academic research into the esoteric and the#paranormal. The head of the Institute#Mr. Elias Bouchard#has employed me to replace the previous Head Archivist#one Gertrude Robinson#who has recently passed away.#I have been working as a researcher at the Institute for four years now and am familiar with most of our more significant contracts and#projects. Most reach dead ends#predictably enough#as incidents of the supernatural#such as they are – and I always emphasise there are#very few genuine cases – tend to resist easy conclusions. When an investigation has gone as far as it can#it is transferred to the Archives#Now#the Institute was founded in 1818#which means that the Archive contains almost 200 years of case files at this point.#Combine that with the fact that most of the Institute prefers the ivory tower of pure academia to the complicated work of dealing with#statements or recent experiences and you have the recipe for an impeccably organised library and an absolute mess of an archive. This isn’t#necessarily a problem – modern filing and indexing systems are a real wonder#and all it#would need is a half-decent archivist to keep it in order. Gertrude Robinson was apparently not that archivist.#From where I am sitting#I can see thousands of files. Many spread loosely around the place

Caught up with TMAGP and idk if [error]/the archivist is Jon or not but in the mist of my real terrifying fear one of my blorbos (specially Alice) will die next episode the fact this little eldrish horror that might kill them is vibing on the train and might've bought a ticket is the one thing keeping me sane.
Crowded public transportation can be a nightmare when you are a nightmare full of eyes - what if someone accidentaly pokes one of your eyes - and we just noticed with Alice how the guards are very rude (was fully scared for her in that scene) and impatient so extra good job for standing for itself. Hope it has a little book to pass the time while waiting to do whatever it's doing.
#also wouldn't it be fun#if a few seasons later we discovered that the archivist was actually trying to help#and that this moment and the likely death that will follow was either unecessarg or even straight up caused more problems#just like Tim's death was ultimaly meaningless and in fact that whole mission pretty much just helped Jonah mark Jon with the end#would't it be great?#tmagp#the magnus protocol

Thinking to myself “man it’s a good thing there nine mechanisms to project my disabilities onto, wouldn’t want people to think I’m headcanoning them to have an unrealistic amount of issues.” When it’s like, I have all these issues! And some people have way more comorbidities than me!
#the mechanisms#i don’t only hc my disabilties onto them#like the LM/MC. someone i am close with has that. not me#but still i project *mostly* issues i have or similar#like i definitely dont have ocd but i have enough similaries in symptoms and my anxiety has previously manifested with ocd tendencies#as well as anxiety driven delusions. that it makes sense to just. like. tick it up a bit more for the hc#obviously research is done re conditions i dont have#but also the words are easier that way#it *hard* to explain my symptoms that overlap and muddle with other disorders so it doesnt make sense to do so for a hc#not when im describing it for my own purposes and not typically if i were to be discussing it w#it with someone else#anyway its ivy. i think that makes sense#part of me also wants to headcanon her to be a hoarder#because i struggle with that#but i think shes a good archivist and those seem to be mutually exclusive#unless she is hoarding non library/archive things i suppose#this isn’t just about ocd this is about many many things#my body doesnt work right and it does so in ways people just Never Talk About….#the point is that if i headcanoned one character to have all the same exact problems i do it would seem excessive#when its not its just my life#and again other people have way more comorbidies than me!#fun fact: all your body shit is connected to all your other body shit

thinking about archivists again. below the cut: obscene amounts of brainrot in the form of a long-winded relationship study and oddly specific references to canon that may or may not be accurate
im trying to come up with some sort of au for them (writer's block and creative burnout is a BITCH it's okay though we stay silly) and there's just something about how qphil and qcellbit don't (or didn't) really wind up in each other's circles often. sure they were friendly with each other in passing, and they definitely had some nice little interactions earlier on: cellbit briefly interviewing phil on one of his first days on the island over a cup of coffee and solidifying phil's view of cellbit as the Dedicated Investigator; phil asking cellbit to babysit chayanne and tallulah while he's away on a trip and cellbit being more than happy to; phil briefly checking in with cellbit --- who was in the process of tumbling into his regret arc, cutting off ties with loved ones and making himself a martyr --- and asking if he was okay when phil spotted him hanging alone in the back of the group; chatting about the upcoming wedding and phil advising cellbit that he and roier should probably introduce some sort of dress code (lmao); cellbit watching phil and missa meet up for the first time in months on the way to the federation's people-freezers and all of the pieces rapidly falling into place (the name of phil's waystone, phil's skull backpack, phil's elusive "husband," ohhhhhhh...). they've always been in each other's peripheral, but never directly involved in each other's personal lives.
until the happy pills.
see the thing about archivists is that they're not drawn together by a pre-existing friendship; they're more friendly acquaintances at this point, perhaps almost-friends, though they're certainly not close. but then forever's life is under threat, and god, they both love forever immensely. with direct help from bad and indirect help from others (qpac you LEGEND), they're eventually able to formulate a plan that successfully drag forever out from under the haze of drugs, pull him to the surface. they sit next to each other as they sit at the bedside of their mutual friend, watch him breathing, and try to breathe themselves.
and from that moment on it's solidified: they know they can depend on each other, when shit hits the fan. they have their respective strengths, and they balance out each other nicely. i wish i had gotten more of a chance to watch their dynamic during purgatory 1 (unfortunately i have a life sadge) but from what i saw, they turned out to be some pretty good co-leaders, and an interesting dynamic at that: phil acting more as a support role (moral support, resource support, combat support, ALL the support) and stepping up into a leader-like role when needed, but ultimately letting cellbit take the helm a lot of the time since he's a strategist with more practice managing large groups of people (i wont get into it here, and i want to watch more vods so i can more properly analyze them but HOUGHH i have THOUGHTS!! SO MANY!!!)
what im trying to get at is that they were initially in the peripheral in each others lives but were eventually drawn together out of necessity, due to circumstances. the mutual respect followed, which was then followed by trust, and then collaboration, and then friendship. i've also made this post talking about their dynamic, how they both understand each other's need to focus on the here and now and understand that they don't need to know every little thing about each other to still trust each other. and this is so integral to their relationship. it's what makes archivists archivists.
so now all that's left for me to do is try to come up with some sort of au i can chuck them in, incorporating this idea of "friendship of necessity" as a core feature of the plot. i have scattered ideas but none are particularly appealing or solid enough. i will try though!! if u have any suggestions/thoughts/ideas feel free to leave a comment or say in tags (pspsppsps come brainrot with meeee)
#qsmp philza#qsmp cellbit#archivists#dont mind me im just rambling#im specifically trying to come up with an au because i feel like a lot of my creative burnout recently has to do with the fact that ive-#-been stressing about my fics being canon-compliant and up-to-date with and accurate to the Lore as well as my characters being in-characte#-with a deep understanding of each character's lore when that is!! really hard to do!! considering how many characters there are and how-#-many hours of vods there are and the fact i still need to do Life things sometimes.#so writing an au allows me to be more flexible with the characterization (while still incorporating the integral aspects of the characters)#-AND i dont have to worry about being 100% up to date with the lore if the fic literally takes place another world!!#currently the main problem is COMING UP with the au lol#anyway that's enough out of me i love these guys im going CRAZY#also i should mention this post is NOT proofread lol
