M. C. Escher Work Enters the Public Domain—and More Art News – ARTnews.com
IT’S NOT JUST MICKEY MOUSE—other artworks have now entered the common domain, too. Artnet News has a look at what’s now available for usage by the general public, and there’s a bounty of art-related material. Are you, like many others across the world, celebrating the 100th anniversary of Surrealism? You’re in luck: André Breton’s novel Nadja has officially entered the public domain. Perhaps you love M. C. Escher? His print Tower of Babel, featuring a vertigo-inducing view of the titular structure, is also joining that Breton book, along with pieces by Francis Picabia, Georgia O’Keeffe, Edward Hopper, and much more.
CRIME BLOTTER. The Pennsylvanian city of Scranton may not be a destination for art museums, but it is the site of a not-insignificant art heist that took place in 2005. At the Everhart Museum, thieves walked away with works by Andy Warhol and Jackson Pollock, and only recently have authorities begun to track down the people responsible. Four pleaded guilty to the crime last year. On Monday, another suspect surrendered himself, according to WNEP. He had been wanted for seven months as part of an alleged ring that also targeted New Jersey’s Ringwood Manor, where thieves heisted a Jasper Cropsey painting in 2011.  ...

hi guys i need help finding this book i once saw which i don’t remember the title or the author of but i vaguely remember what the cover looked like. it was a dark colour (i think navy blue) and the title was in the middle of the cover and it was reflected below as if it was a mirror image. i believe the book was about art (specifically art heists i think).

First, says the art thief, forget about the movies. Skylight entries, smoke bombs, and shootouts may be cinematic, but unless you want to go to jail, these are terrible tactics for stealing art. Violence and destruction in a museum only minimize your odds of success. Art crime, according to Stéphane Breitwieser, is best accomplished when no one knows that it’s happening.

The Seventh Score: Part 1 || Part 2
Rival thieves compete to steal scores before the other can get to it- but the real score is the love they find along the way!
I hope you enjoyed reading! If this made you smile please consider tipping over at my Ko-fi! Tips really help me out, and comics are a huge labor or love.
You can find a directory of my other queer comics here, but don't forget to reblog this one!

Early Van Gogh on View for First Time Since It Was Stolen in 2020
...  For years, the painting’s whereabouts were unknown despite the fact that the person who stole it, nicknamed “Nils M” by the Dutch media, and the criminal who allegedly planned the theft, Peter Roy K, had already been arrested and were serving prison sentences.
Arthur Brand, the art detective who made his name recovering a range of treasure that include a Picasso painting and a ring owned by Oscar Wilde, retrieved the work late last year, albeit not through any sleuthing of his own.
As Brand tells it, he heard on a knock on his door late one evening last year. An unidentified man passed Brand a crumpled blue IKEA bag then sped off. The meeting had been prearranged and the police alerted, but Brand said still he ran up the stairs of his apartment in Amsterdam and excitedly opened the delivery. Inside, swaddled in bubble wrap, was the Van Gogh. Brand had a colleague film the unboxing, then compared the back of the work to a “proof of life” photograph he had been sent.
“It’s him,” Brand said. “Vincent van Gogh is back. What a day.”
According to Brand, the painting was likely passed back and forth throughout the criminal underground, with no one person wanting to sell or fence it because, with a value between €3 million and €6 million (around $3.5 million-$6.5 million), the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze.
“We knew that the painting would go from one hand to another hand in the criminal world, but that nobody really wanted to touch it because it wasn’t worth anything,” Brand told The Guardian. “You could only get in trouble. So it was a little bit cursed.”
The picture’s restorer at the Rotterdam Museum, Marjan de Visser, told The Guardian that the scratch in the canvass is “severe” and “goes through all the layers, the varnish, the paint layers and then into the ground layer.”
Dust, and dirt have been removed from the canvass and de Visser is researching previous restorations and the original materials used so as to properly restore the painting.
The painting will be available for public view starting on March 29 at the Groninger Museum in the Northern Netherlands.

more dweebs (Very detailed image description below.)
a drawing of grian, ethoslab, tangotek, and smallishbeans. grian is in his season 10 fishing skin and the rest are in different outfits referencing their base themes.
grian is in his fishing skin looking very tired with his fishing rod swung over his shoulder and an ear pierced with a brassy fish hook. he’s a cod hybrid with fin-ears and a stubby tail. behind him blue snail is munching on some leaves.
etho is posing with a neck sheepishly behind his neck and the other resting on his bag. he’s in the postal uniform polo with a green, canadian maple-themed yukata loosely worn and slipping off his shoulder. he has fingerless gloves on under. he is wearing dark red pleated pants and light green heeled crocs. he has a black and red messenger bag with a trellis motif. etho is an arctic fox hybrid with brown legs and streaks through his hair. doodles below show what his paws look like under the crocs and one shows him posing with a note saying “ties up sleeves.” above him another note reads “streaks bc his winter coat is shedding.”
tango is posing confidently with a wrench. he is in the postal uniform polo, with chunky brown and orange gloves and boots, topped off with red, pinstriped overalls. one strap is not around his shoulder, and on the belt around the overalls they carry a small bag, a screwdriver, and a vial of redstone. he has on brown goggles with blue lenses. tango has fire for hair and pointed ears. above him there’s a doodle of the messenger bag that’s secured on his back. it shows how the orange straps tuck over the whole outfit and lead to a dark red and pinstripe blue bag with cog detailing.
joel is giving an indignant pose like he’s complaining. he is wearing a black undershirt that fades out into his light green claws, a pink kimono with only one sleeve of cherry blossom patterns, and a dark grey vest and cherry blossom-patterned obi tie it off. the vest has a cherry blossom crest on the back. joel also has on dark pink pants with a cherry blossom motif on the bottom and on his left arm there’s a bracer with a screen built in. crawling all over the undershirt there are cybernetic patterns connecting joel’s skin through to the undershirt. joel is a tanuki, hence why he has a leaf on his head. around joel are doodles showing the crest on the back of his vest and the pattern on the sleeve.

Alright! So I finished hand binding Crimson Rivers by @mayzarbewithyou :) this was my first time bookbinding so excuse the mistakes I am far from great, but all in good time! This fic basically changed the trajectory of my life so I thought I’d give it the love it deserves! the spine is regulus standing looking up at the tree and he is purposely put on the last book because he finally learned how to climb and grow. I’m so emotional over the end of the fic so this is very emotional to me. I did the typeset myself and there are some cool details I’ll try to put in another post, but basically I added all of Zar’s end notes as footnotes to the specific scenes he talks about! All very fun and the dingbats match the theme for the books and the backs each have quotes the correspond. I split it into 5 just because it didn’t feel right to have the epilogues in the same book as the war. They were two completely different parts of the story so I separated them. Anyways I’ll make another post. This was a labor of love and I hope I did it Justice :)
