  Artemis's feet carried her over the dunes of sand. Tousled red hair blocked sight of her path. But it didn’t matter, she wasn’t going anywhere in particular.

 O broken hearted one, your soul has grown weary...

A voice sang to her in the wind.

 Have you turned to the rippling tides to engulf your lonely tears?

Salt stung her eyes, but she couldn’t tell if it was her own tears or ocean spray.

 May the waves embrace you,

The shoreline came into sight. The dune collapsed beneath her feet and she went tumbling onto the beach,

 Lull you softly to sleep…

That would be nice wouldn’t it? She didn’t know if she had it in her to get up again anyway.

 Ease away all the hurt and pain

Her eyes closed. Akila.

The singer grew louder, and a shadow fell over her face.

A multitude of arms pulled her into a boneless gentle grip, cradling her above the sand.

The voice was directly above her now. It had shifted from a far reaching to an intimate lullaby.

Artemis opened her eyes. A man’s face hovered above hers. He was young, but marred by a scar which cut from his temple to his jaw. His was dark save for a white patch at the forefront. It curled slightly, likely more so when not plastered against his skull by how wet it was

She watched the path of a single water droplet as it ran down his lips, over the muscles of his bare torso, and to his waist where the texture of his flesh changed. Pale skin became red, hard planes became soft and yielding, and she realized that rather than being cradled by the arms of many different people she seemed to be embraced by a mass of tentacles all attached to him.

Artemis felt some dim spark of alarm at this, but when she looked into the stranger’s teal eyes she could see only reflections of her own grief and loneliness. “Did you crawl from the sea just to serenade me?” She asked.

“More or less,” He answered.

“Hmm, and what would the more be?” She asked again.

“To give you a gift.” He said.

“Do you take much delight in being deliberately vague?” This time her question was laced with annoyance.

He grinned sheepishly, “I’m out of practice talking to people. I came to take your pain away.”

“I’m not in pain,” She said.

“Aren’t you?” He paused, waiting for her to refute him. She didn’t. “ Wounds of the heart are the worst kind. I can see them. And with a kiss, I can fix them. Who ever it is, they won’t be able to haunt you anymore.”

The look in his eyes wasn’t understanding exactly, but it was far too knowing for her taste. Artemis rolled out of his grasp. The tentacles offered no resistance, but a few trailed after her. “And what do you get out of this kiss?” She spat the word like a curse.

“Your place on the land.”

“What?” She asked bewildered.

He sighed, “It’s a swap. You lose your memories and your place on the land. I finally get my chance to start over.”

“You took this deal yourself then.” It wasn’t a question.

“Presumably,” He shrugged.

Surprised she asked, “You don’t remember?”

“That would defy the point.” He shrugged again.

She paused and looked him over. He projected confidence and indifference. But his eyes were still a reflection of hers. She asked one more question, “Does it really work?”

“Obviously not,” He said, gesturing to himself.

“Not that. The pain. Does it really make the pain go away? You seem just as heartbroken as I.” He reared back like he had been slapped. Tentacles curled up defensively. She continued, “No, I think you’re still just as haunted. You simply don’t know your ghost’s name. Do you even know your own?”

“Jason,” He snapped.

“What?” She hadn’t expected such a quick response.

“I’m Jason. What’s your name Princess?” She twitched at the nickname. His eyes sparkled with amusement. A smile overtook him. His angry features smoothed over into something almost charming.

“You may address me as Artemis. Not Princess.” She said.

He crossed his arms, “Whatever you say, Red.” She wondered suddenly if Jason was the kind of man that enjoyed being slapped. He certainly seemed set on provoking her.

They sat in their tableau, staring at each other. This conversation had become a contest and whoever looked away first lost. The only movement was the wind, ruffling his still damp curls and throwing her own hair trailing behind her.

The sun had begun to sink in the sky when Jason finally spoke, “You’re not going to take the deal are you?”

“I’d rather know who I’m grieving.” She answered honestly.

“Fair enough.” A tentacle reached out for her wrist. She allowed him to take it. He brought her close enough to take her hand in his and kiss her knuckles. “I hope your heart doesn’t stay blue forever. In the meantime Artemis, stay away from the water. Not all Sirens are as scrupulous as I am.” He let her go and returned to the sea.

Everytime I hear Diana and Artemis should date I get shivers down my spine. It was a bland ship at first but now with what Morrison did to them it grosses me out. It’s ruined past repair.

Plus Diana has more chemistry with like ANY other woman and Artemis is always relegated to being a background character around Diana and shines more when she’s not in a ww book and I want more for her.

Fuzznut and Land Shark have real names, but I sort of have a habit of nicknaming my dogs. My first golden was nicknamed Fluffinator, my second I called Shaggy, my English Mastiff was nicknamed Baby (not original but he was a freaking baby, he’d hide behind me at the vet and it’s like the elephant behind the lamp post. Everyone was terrified of him, but he was so scared of everything that it was pointless for people to fear him), my mutts are and were Dipshit (she was a bitch, and we had a mutual dislike of one another; she was 100% my mom’s dog and she didn’t like anyone who wasn’t my mom) and Dipshit’s half-sister is Lady (because she’s a freaking duchess or queen or something with manners, has been since she was a puppy). I don’t really post real names of my pets or family anywhere, but I am happy to post the nicknames! But just so you know, they do come to their nicknames which is freaking hilarious when I’m in public! 

Alrighty, down to business.

I am not a fan of Jason and Artemis pairing at all. Reasons: Artemis is a lesbian. In her original titles she was married off to a demon, abused, brainwashed and manipulated, but even then she never showed an inclination towards men. After she always flirted with women, and held men in disdain; I was fucking AMAZED when she and Jay started working on a TEAM! Let alone became FRIENDS! But romance between them, no. Artemis already expressed having more chemistry with her dead best friend, Akila, than Jay, and Jay has more chemistry with Rose Wilson or Roy Harper than Artemis. Also, it feels like we’re recycling Dick’s redhead fetish and foisting it on Jason. I get the argument that Artemis could be bi, Amazons are usually bi or lesbians, but honestly she never gives off the bi vibes. Jason I think is the first guy she has a semi civil relationship with.Artemis of Bana Mighdall. I feel they were thrown together to give Jay a love interest but it was poorly timed, poorly constructed, and disregarded both characters entirely.

As to WonderBat... I’m sort of indifferent to it to be honest. I enjoyed it in the animated Justice League series. It was well constructed and well thought out, they had a cute friendship and a sweetness on each other they didn’t display with others. But in the end, I don’t think they are the best for the other, they’re solid but not the best match for the other. Still, they do have a great partnership, and if they had a kid I think they’d be the co-parenting friends rather than ending up married. I think Diana is too headstrong, confrontational, and demanding to make Bruce happy, and in turn I think Bruce is too dramatic, brooding, and secretive to make Diana happy. I don’t think they’d flame out, but I do think they’d drift apart and remain friends.
