It was a normal spring day today. Rainy and kind of chilly. I sat on the porch this morning with my coffee and cigarette, and thought about her. I don't know what it is about spring rains that make me think about her. It shouldn't. It should be summer rains. The smell of fresh cut grass and rain on asphalt always brings me back to the night we walked back from a rock club. The gutters were so full they were starting to flood into the street. Most of the drains were covered with leaves. By the time we made it back to her apartment, we were soaking wet. And the shirt I was wearing (for a band called The Fallen) was destroyed after I forgot to wash it until two weeks after that night. Spring rains shouldn't. But they do. When they are just right, and today was just right I guess.

I really didn't do all that much today. Call it a mental health day, I guess. Basically, I played on my Switch. I can spend hours playing the GBA and Sega Genesis games. I'm too lazy to emulate stuff anymore. Yes, I know what that implies. And yes, I am too lazy to click a hyperlink.

That's bout it really. I got nothing. Not even anything I could rant about or is on my mind. I'm tired anyway. Hopefully, I get some good sleep tonight.

Eeeeeeeh, I finally watched the TV series "The King and the Fool". So far, it seems that 3 episodes have been released, or only 3 episodes are on the site where I watched the series. And my opinion is that the series is GOR-GE-OUS. The first episode, as an introductory one, seems to be normal. I liked the third one 50/50, since the actions taking place "in our world" were not very comfortable. The best series for me at the moment is the second one.

The acting is good, the special effects too. The only thing that confused me was the graphics of wolves in the second series, XD. There are no complaints about the rest. The idea of a parallel world, where the parallel Gorshok and Knyaz go to the sorcerer to save the princess and become legends, parallel to meet the heroes of their songs - BRILLIANT! On the site where I watch, the series has 9.6 points. I completely agree with this, Kinopoisk really shot a good series.

Only here I watched it until 3 o'clock in the morning and didn't get enough sleep. I feel like a sponge with water inside :'(

He would mindlessly flirt with you when he wasn’t doing hero work and playfully pushing your buttons just to get a reaction.

You believed he was just being funny at first and so did he.

But then days you hung out turned into weeks.

Then months.

And soon years.

And as those years passed, a strong emotion brewed within Hobie targeted towards you.

Now his flirting would be more intimate when he wasn’t busy trying to correct his own words.

He would start to act like the men he mocked daily on those rom-coms and soap operas you watched for giggles.

If he made a mistake, he wouldn’t own it, he would actually say sorry and stumble over himself.

It was kind of cute, in a funny way, but also confusing.

Elepants and Stars Share New EP, "Get Your Own Army", Out Now!

Today, Toronto outfit Elephants And Stars share their. new EPrelease Get Your Own Army with the leadoff single "Bled Out at the Scene," a Cars/Springsteen-influenced rocker that once again showcased the band's uncanny ability to find the dark heart beating away at pop music's gooey center with a chorus that gets in your head and stays there. Frontman Manfred Stittmann's meditation about an acrimonious breakup made it easy to pump your fist and cry into your beer—maybe even at the same time. 

With the EP's second single "Gimme Ketamine," Elephants And Stars deliver the ultimate summer anthem with an infectiously catchy rocker that sees the band wearing the influence of groups like The Gaslight Anthem and The Goo Goo Dolls on its sleeve.

Again, though, surface impressions can be deceiving, with Stittmann exploring the tension between individual conviction and social pressure, offering biting lines like "Let's crucify everyone who disagrees" in a way that one just can't help but sing-along with. 

“If you look at a mega-popular hit like ‘Every Breath You Take’ by The Police," says Stittman, "just think how many people have played that song at weddings and occasions like that thinking it’s this heartfelt love ballad, when in truth it’s sung from the point of view of a stalker. I listen to a lot of really dark, heavy stuff like death metal and punk, but those lyrics don’t connect with me as much when the words and the sound align too closely. They end up canceling each other out. To me, death metal is almost party music even though I take the playing very seriously.”

“On the other hand,” he continues, “bubblegum pop usually doesn’t do it for me. I need some contrast—that feels more lifelike to me because, if you think about it, life is contrast. And I feel like that’s what we’re craving in art that seeks to be more than just entertainment, at least I do. I like to be entertained too, but I like to think this band can do both. You can sip your beer and play our songs at a cookout, or you can put them on to dwell on whatever you need to dwell on. I’m not the most profound songwriter, but I like to think our music can be there for you at whatever level you need it to be in the moment.”

The band's follow-up to their 2022 full-length Last Chance Power Drive, Get Your Own Army was produced by Steve Chahley and mixed by Ron Hawkins of alt-rock legends Lowest Of The Low. Elephants And Stars is the third project formed around the long-running creative partnership of Manfred Stittmann and bassist Mike MacMillan, both of whom also formed the core of the late-'90s/early-2000s groups Soap Opera and The First Time.

Today was a good…No. Today was a great day. I don't know if it's just because I finally feel back to normal. No more stomach cramps and gurgling, no more running to the bathroom. I feel like a million bucks. Still. Today was a great day.

I woke up to an empty house with four hours before I had to go into work by noon. I showered, had my morning coffee and cigarette out on the porch. And then I pulled out my guitar and literally just jammed until it was time to go. I haven't done that for a long time. I used to play every day for at least an hour, but the motovation for it kind of fades away after awhile. I wish my dad and I would've gotten to actually play together. We always talked about it when I would visit, but it just never came to fruition. I guess, in a way, we're playing together now.

I got to work at noon, and had plenty of time to clean out a freezer and reset it, do both of the fryers (boiling them out and then cleaning them.) By the time open came at 4, we were well stocked and ready to go.

Sherry was actually a lot of fun tonight. I'm wondering if it had to do with my music choice. Usually, I just play my main Spotify list (Songs You Should Know) but tonight I played some Rock Hits of the 60s through the 90s. For some reason, Sherry seemed like the old version of herself. I'm curious if that's what it is. I mean, my playlist is extremely eccentric. I've got a very wide and varied taste when it comes to music, but I'm also an absolute snob when it comes to music. There's everything from Dying Fetus to Katy Perry to Eminem to Veggietales songs. A bit of everything. And a lot of the time, it stays in the punk area, usually folk punk. I don't think Sherry likes my music all that much. And she'd never say anything if that were true. It's just not in her nature. Work absolutely flew by once we got going. I swear I looked at the clock at 5:35 and the next it was after eight. It's been a long time since that happened. Usually, it drags on, and even more so lately with all my groaning and whining.

And now I'm home. I took my meds. Showered to get the grease off of me. And Bob's Burgers is my background noise. Kind of a stupid show, but every once in awhile they get a good laugh from me. I just can't get over how great today was. I think I needed that. A good day. I've been so stressed and angry lately, what with work and the attempts at moving the hell out of my mom's house and the hospital and everything. It was all getting to be too much. So I guess the universe is throwing me a bone.
