Type Axiom - Unit 01 - The Darkfall

As previously announced, I am developing more units by using the frames from the first Type Axiom, the BloodCross (referred as Unit 00).

Few updates on the design:

1. New arm-shoulder connection: it is hard to tell here but will be explained in the tutorial later.

2. New arm design: I took the cones I used for the legs of Type Abyssus as the arms for Unit 01 to beef up the scale. I keep the ideas of the shoulder shape, which will be a permanent element for all the Axioms.

3. New leg scales: In order to make leg not look comparably skinnier than arms, I scale up the calf and thighs.

4. New head design: well it is from the new series I was planning as a design language for the new series but to make each Unit different, I borrow the ideas plus it looks a little too small if I copy the Unit 00’s head for this body

5. New feet design: I really like the feet. Without covering the studs, it looks very much like feet armours to me instead of shoes.

6. No new weapon yet: I took the weapons from Type Atlas, but am thinking to make a glider, something like Gundam Altas if you know what I am talking about.

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, do you feel like Atlas holding the world upon your shoulders to keep your near and dear safe and sound, whilst toying with the thought of dropping those burdens and crushing them like ants, berating them for taking you for granted? The mental load you take on leaves you feeling so capable, yet frustrated with all who by comparison appear foolish and incompetent. You think highly of yourself, but like a flick of a switch you crumble on the shower floor crying for mercy, sending prayers down the drain because yours is a life of the ivory tower and the free fall from it, repeated like a cruel joke stuck in an inescapable loop. He loves me, he loves me not, except you count petals of your own self-worth. You're a genius, you're an idiot. Gorgeous and sweet, vile and grotesque.

You're opinionated, well-read, and seemingly surrounded by imbeciles, yet a silver tongue so easily gets tied as you fear mistakes. Trauma has left you paranoid. Do you fear retaliation? The avalanche triggered by a little hiccup, which buries you, encasing your mistake forevermore, so that shame is to you what the smile is to Mona Lisa and the whole world may gawk and point and laugh and dissect and analyse and theorise centuries from now about how you, a fool, screwed up once and that once was enough to destroy the perception of you which you so carefully tried to protect.

Houdini, you vanish like ashes to the wind, yet crave to be seen and heard and felt and touched. Rejection frightens you, so you perfect the art of care and service. Who could reject a helping hand? What then, when it is never reciprocal, nobody texts you first, unless of course they need something from you? Then you writhe as the anger in your veins burn. Your surface calm hides riptides threatening to grab and pull traitors out to sea to drown. Unable to express your darkest feelings, you've made a name for yourself for your serenity, yet beneath the surface you have been screaming your whole life. Would it kill them to ask you how you are and make space to truly receive the honest answer? You feel like an imposter, a charming attendee at a masquerade who's on a wanted poster for the crimes you commit inside your head at the slightest inconvenience.

Everything is perfect, and what isn't must be made so. You do not take shortcuts, you do not round up or down. Like a surgeon your precision is immaculate, but the scalpel cuts deep and swift and you are full of marks of real and imagined flaws and failures you tried to surgically remove. Impossible are the only standards that you know. Enough is not a word in any language that you speak. There is always something you could have done better. As though you were born into a fixer-upper, you became an architect, drawing up careful plans of grandure, which you construct from the rubble. Yet every tile eventually cracks, the paint chips and the hardwoodwood scuffs, so you tear everything back down to ruins and begin anew. You are forever under construction, and always on a tight schedule and low on resources, and never in a million years could you hire a lending hand. Because only you dance with perfection, only you know its touch, and nobody else should get their grubby little hands on fragile things that they'll just break.

You wish so earnestly to be seen. To shine beautifully and be admired by all, but in your paralysing fear of judgement you hide away. To perfect your reflection, your craft, to stride forth with books atop your head with enviable grace. One day you'll show 'em, you say, though you know that you're both the captive of the tower and the beast that guards it. You tell yourself you must earn your keep in the kingdom, unable to rest because the list of things to do is never-ending and replenishes like clockwork, a task done only invites another.

Yet from this tower you gaze upon the crowds, green with envy for their ability to let life happen without white-knuckling the reins. To swim with the current, not against it. And those lucky few, to whom things, a struggle to you, comes with such ease? You could burn them at the stake, and perhaps have in your mind, but this fleeting image invisiblen to all, as through gritted teeth and throbbing jaw and knotted neck, all illusioned into a bright, proud smile, you're the first to stand and give ovation for the achievements of others. Then you slip away from their awfully bright light, into the shadows to scream and cry and punish yourself for not fitting into their shoes. And when they stumble and fall? From the shadows nobody can see your Chesire grin of malice. Which, of course, only adds yet another flaw, another crack in need of mending. Because oh, to be free of this never-ending waltz with self-loathing and misplaced blame, and be whole and happy within yourself and uplift others without walking barefoot on glass doing so.

Shufflemancy: Nobody praying for me by Seether

Peter Pan, won't you grow up? You scrunch your nose and grimace at the very thought. You're capable and incapable baked into a concoction of leftovers at the month's end. Tired and done with the judgement of those you, dripping with sarcasm, call better folks. The naysayers nagging and sticking their noses into businesses none of theirs. Yet at the same time you feel lost and without direction. A free bird in flight, soaring across glimmering seas, with no place to land. Inertia, both an enemy and a lover, lulls you so easily into breadcrumb trails full of wonderful distractions. Only to then strike down the facade of the snow globe dreamscape as it falls and shatters on the floor, leaving you to pick up the pieces and cut your hands on the shards.

Mountains of unfinished projects and tasks lay before you, and no beaten path or compass exists for you to rely on. Alarms and memos blaring, screaming your name and calling you a failure with every ring. Everything done last minute or not at all. Feeling helpless and dependent on others for assistance as the world comes crumbling down seemingly weekly. You point to people, circumstances, the planets and the stars, looking for a scapegoat as you flee from guilt and shame in this horrid cycle you feel unable to escape. To admit you could have had more forethought would be to allow the world to place the dunce hat on your head. To never again be taken seriously. You look away, you run, from the consequences of your own actions and inactions. Hiding under a blanket like a child, certain no monster can see you if you can't see them.

The fear of missing out lurking in your peripheral like a predator waiting for its chance to pounce the second you feel as though your peers are so far ahead of you as you run the race of life with your laces tied together like a cruel joke. What did you do so differently to not deserve guidance, where is your coach, your safety network? You're standing outside in the cold winter watching families in their warm dining rooms making merry, wondering if they'd spare you a slice of bread if you knocked on the door. But the discomfort of cold knuckles against cold hard wood or fingers on a frozen knocker keeps you walking, talking to the streetlights who'd never judge you. Your constant need to justify yourself, explain every word you said which seemingly always fails to land on the tarmac. Every project takes flight but crash lands, and the whole world seems to gather to investigate and scrutinise your pilot error. And you're angry, so frustrated you could cry and wish only to raise your voice, scream in the face of judgement and close their airways. Tell them it isn't fair, that they're all lucky and have no idea what it's like to live life on hardmode, to be ridiculed and reduced to the butt of a joke, forced to serve as the archetypal fool and assumed you'll never amount to anything. Yet you fear your own shadow, certain it could overpower you because it sees what nobody else sees and knows the truth of your neglect and envy and endless chase of the highs at the cost of your desires which need the care and attention you can't give them.

Soo. Back into role-playing RWBY a little, someone joked about why there's so many edgy characters in the rping community. And I was like why aren't there MORE cause you have the Grimm which actively are hostile to humanity and negative emotions like feelings of loss will attract more of them, easily making any village a house of cards. And given rpers tend to rp academy students, I thought the disproportionate tragic back stories made a lot of sense.

That latter part got me thinking though. Since negative emotions attract Grimm, someone's probably attempted to make people stop having negative thoughts with methods that head into Orwellian territory.

So AU idea, Atlas noticed the brewing discontent in Mantle and it making the Grimm attacks worse. They probably first launched a mindfulness campaign to get people to have more positive thoughts about their lives which doesn't really work, cause the root problem is still there. Next, they start passing subtle laws citing the evidence that negative stuff increases Grimm attacks. The laws look okay on paper like granting the government power to those underminibg the public safety. However it doesn't define what subversive or threat to public safety means. Several high profile arrests are made to help support this law, ones where there's an active conspiracy to harm the Mantle going on. The laws are praised. However, unrest in Mantle returns again because the root problem of class disparity of the problem is still not addressed.

So now the Council of Atlas makes plans to silently monitor social media using the law to justify it. Public safety can only exist with a happy government , right? But there's a lot of social media to sift through and growing exponentially- there's not enough personnel to watch through it and basic machine learning returns too many false positives to be helpful.

A good deal, and the only thing they're doing right is not banning forms of media outright cause that is a fast way to get negative attention by comparing it to the Great War. They're just monitoring they claim, using the arrests they did get as evidence that the law is good.

So to combine human sensibility with a machine's processing power, the Penny Project was created. Penny is allowed into Atlas to get a better idea of how humans think and later into Vytal Festival to figure out how other Kingdoms think in terms of their culture. The point is for Penny to be exposed to as much human data as possible. Penny meets Ruby and the gang like in public, but then the CCT hack occurs, and guess what Watts discovers.

The Penny Project and all its implications, the council's intent to monitor and arrest anyone that could threaten the government, how Penny is here to "monitor" and "gather data" on them.

This is all announced at Amity Arena. Penny is left unharmed because the plan requires Penny to be alive, the banner against Atlas that everyone goes against. What's worse is that the machines also malfunction and attack everyone making it look like that Atlas is attacking the Vytal Festival upon plans getting revealed too soon before the CCT disconnects, and everyone in Remnant is thinking Great War 2 with Atlas as the spearhead.

Penny tries to surrender herself seeing the fighting going on. Ruby tries to dissuade her. If Penny surrenders right now, everyone is going to think she's guilty and the monster robot that the CCT lied about her being. She has to prove she's one of the good guys first.

Penny is grateful for Ruby's concern and counters that the CCT wasn't lying - she's not alive - she's a machine (ok so not everything goes as canon) , peels back a part of her hand to reveal the metal underneath. Ruby tells her she believes she's a real girl - why else would she be so sad about the fighting?

Convinced by Ruby, they descend into Vale to fight the Grimm and the machines that are attacking the town as things calm down at Amity.

Because of this event, Cinder acquires the powers of a Maiden sooner, but Pyrrha doesn't get the self-sacrificial guilt she has from killing Penny and actually gathers actual Huntsman to fight the Maiden.

Meanwhile, Weiss discovers Ruby and Penny in Vale fighting against the Grimm and machine soldiers after Atlas retreats to the inside of Amity Arena and the other schools return to their designated regions. Obviously, the Vytal Festival has gone to shit at that point. Weiss yells at Ruby to get away from the dangerous robot, drawing Myrtenaster and attacking Penny on the spot. After a couple exchanges, Ruby manages to get between the two. Weiss asks "what the hell are you doing?" And Ruby tells her she's going to protect Penny. Weiss asks why she's doing all this to protect a dangerous machine. And Ruby counters she's a real girl and that she had nothing to do with Atlas's plans.

Weiss reconsiders her approach at that point knowing that when Ruby gets stubborn, nothing will convince her otherwise. A small twinge of something strikes her as she looks at Penny stepping back and almost hiding behind Ruby and clearly reluctant to fight her. -

So Weiss instead asks "everyone's looking for her. Did you even think about what you're going do? What could happen!?" Ruby says that they're going to fight the Grimm and machines and show Penny is fighting for everyone, and after everything's done, they'll surrender and explain to everyone what's going on. Penny nods her head, obviously on the same wavelength.

Weiss almost willingly agrees with that plan because it'll keep Ruby safe and will resolve things nicely with Penny's capture, but she reconsiders upon looking at the sheer hope in the Ruby's eyes (and maybe a little in Penny's also).

Weiss's tone gets icy as she rains on their parade. No, things won't go how Ruby expects. If they surrender now, a couple weeks later, Atlas will serve Penny as a scapegoat - they'll decommision her as a show of faith to the rest of Remnant, and they won't care for Penny's well-being because everyone else thinks of her a robot. Because that's how politics works - everyone but the ones in charge gets punished because that's what power is.

Ruby sees a little bit of the old Weiss she first met: colder, more calculating - and realizes a bit of what made her that way.

Penny whispers that may be for the best. Ruby vehemently denies it - says that if a government requires someone innocent to die to continue running, then maybe it shouldn't exist.

Weiss surprises herself by agreeing. The Council has been a pit of corruption since she was born. Sacrificing Penny won't change anything. Reluctantly she tells Ruby that the best option for Penny is to run while the cleanup is going on because they won't get a chance later when things calmed down.

Ruby asks Weiss what she's going to do and Weiss replies, "I'm going to defend the city and if people ask, I'm going to point in the other direction." Penny tries to thank Weiss and Weiss shoots out that she's not doing it for her. Grateful, Ruby thanks her before running towards the outskirts of Vale with Penny in tow.

It's when Weiss is alone that she feels irritated. She's being left behind just like her mother did when she turned to drinking or when Winter did when she joined Atlas. Ruby just left her without batting an eye, even if the other girl thinks it's for a good cause. and really how far could they go? The two dolts thought that surrender was a good plan. And who knew what the not-so-evil robot would do in the meantime. They needed someone like-

"Weiss?" Ruby asked in surprise, halting her rooftop escape.. Penny stared into the distance where the voice came from.

Before long, Weiss arrived panting via Glyph hopping, clearly a bit more worn out from chasing the other girl and realizing that there's no way she can quietly catch up to the other girl whose semblance is Speed.

Before Ruby could say anything, Weiss just announces, "if you two go out on your own, you're going to get caught within a couple days. You need someone who knows how the world actually works, so I'm coming with you."

Ruby says, "Weiss..."

Weiss turns to Penny, "And you. Know that I'm watching you. If you ever hurt Ruby..."

Penny said determinedly, "I rather die."

Weiss stopped for a second and then nodded her head.

"Good," she says before adding, "Mistral's too friendly with Atlas due to their trade agreements. It makes Vacuo our best choice, especially with its lingering resentment against Atlas. So let's head to the port and see if we can sneak on."

01. Deck of Cards. These playing cards are Clover’s favorite simply because of their elegant clover design. He carries this desk with him to pass the time on long transport rides and to show off his magic card tricks. 

02. Lucky Coin. An ancient bronze coin belonging to a forgotten civilization. It’s value wasn’t very large and it’s open center made it impractical to use, but legend says carrying the coin on a necklace brought good fortune.

03. Tea Packets. While Clover prefers a more authentic loose leaf tea, he may carry a couple tea bags taken from the Atlas Academy Dinning Hall.

Side Note: Any attempt to permanently harm Multi-Shadow or Multi-Knuckles triggers a catastrophic reaction from Multi-Silver. In such scenarios, Multi-Silver undergoes a horrifying transformation, resembling a corrupted version of Silver the Hedgehog known as "Dark Silver." This transformation imbues him with god-like power, posing a significant threat to the stability of reality itself.
