please i love you i'm begging you bring back suspension of disbelief bring back trusting the audience like. i cannot handle any more dialogue that sounds like a legal document. "hello, i am here to talk to you about the incident from a few minutes ago, because i feel you might be unwell, and i am invested in your personal wellbeing." "thank you, i am unwell because the incident was hurtful to me due to my childhood, which was bad." I CANT!!!!
do you know how many people are mad that authors use "growled" as a word for "said"? it's just poetics! they do not literally mean "growled," it's just a common replacement for "said with force but in a low tone." it's normal! do you hear me!! help me i love you please let me out of here!!!

I know adverbs are controversial, but "said softly" means something different than "whispered" and this is the hill I will die on.

nothing will ever amaze me the way fanfiction authors do. like, you wrote silly little stories about my favorite little guys? and i can read them?? for free??? that’s fucking wild.
you poured your heart and soul and very being into your writing and then put it out there for anyone to read? insane.
you spend a truly incredible amount of time writing novel-length, high quality stories, again, FOR FREE, that anyone can read, again, FOR FREE??
shoutout to every single fic author in existence, you guys are fucking incredible and i love all of you so much

Folks act like "maybe the author isn't the final authority about what their work means" is some wanky post-modern nonsense and not a simple recognition that a lot of authors are perfectly prepared to bullshit about their own work. Like, leaving big-name popular media aside, I have personally encountered authors being actively disingenuous about their own work for all of the following reasons:
A true answer wouldn't fit the image they've cultivated.
They've decided they like the explanation the readers/viewers have come up with better than what they actually had in mind.
Something that was originally intended as a standalone work ended up growing into a franchise or series, and now they're pretending that was the plan all along for some reason.
They don't want to admit that the bit you're asking about is genuinely just a plot hole.
The real answer gets into some shit they don't care to discuss, so they've prepared a cover story to explain away the parts they don't want to talk about.
Their politics have changed since they wrote it, but they don't want to acknowledge that, so they're constantly trying to re-interpret everything they've ever written to be perfectly consistent with whatever their positions are this week.
They wrote it decades ago and they honestly don't remember what they were thinking at the time, so they're just making shit up; sometimes they also don't remember what shit they made up the last time, so the answer is different every time they're asked.
The work in question is at least partly autobiographical and they can't tell the truth without confessing to a crime in the process.
Most of the good bits are plagiarised and they don't really understand it themselves.
They're lying to you on purpose, for evil reasons.

The stuggles of being a writer.
A shame that I have to actually finish my book before I get to read it. I enjoy writing it just as much but I am looking forward to finishing my first book and getting to read through it, even if I do know what's going to happen.

A Real Wedding, But A Fake Business: A Sample Website To Showcase My Writing
This website is a wedding planner website called Whimsical Heart Ceremonies.
Tumblr media
I got married on October 29th, 2022 to my lovely high school sweetheart, Kyle. A year ago, I made this website when I was contemplating being a wedding planner, but...after I created the business name, the contract, packages offerings, and took a wedding planner course, I bailed on the idea. Despite that, I didn't want the website to go to waste after putting all that time and effort on it, so I thought I'd publish it and  use my blogging power to show off my writing and artistic abilities that I used to create *drum roll* WHIMSICAL HEART CEREMONIES (whimsicalheartceremonies.weebly.com). Besides the wedding planning, and the day-of coordination, I also included the option of renting a bridesmaid/groomsman. I thought that concept was amazing when I found it online from a famous woman who does it for a living. (I'd love to do that for a living too). This is also a good opportunity for me to show off our wedding pictures, if you're interested. ;)
Honestly, I don't know why I thought I could do it nor why I bailed on it... That's a lie. I know why. I got wedding fever when I was planning my own wedding, and then lost my confidence and motivation after dealing with an ordeal right after my husband and I came back from our honeymoon.
I've also been kind of lost in the career department. I live paycheck to paycheck and always craved something more, though I was never brave enough to go after it. Even though I like being a substitute teacher because I love helping the students, it wasn't really the dream job I was seeking. I always dreamed of becoming a successful author, successful enough that I could make a living out of it. I know it a stretch to wanna be rich doing this (because it's rare that writers are), but I was angry about being stuck and being unable to move forward for a long time. Eventually it caused me to think about career changes that would be more personized to me and my personality type, but I haven't exactly nailed it.
refusing to lose hope, I have faith that while I continue this writing journey here, my creative dreams will soon sort themselves out. I have dreams that are scary and the fear is winning. Don't worry, though. I am in the process of beating fear.

Reblog for a larger sample size!
No "show results", if you're not a fanfic writer just be patient.
I saw a post about an anon saying it was embarrasing to have an ao3 account in your 30s (it's absolutely not), so I want to do a poll and see what the age range actually is.
