Jon didn't know if he could trust Martin. The man was odd, nearly dealthy silent with a steadying clam. Always jittery and nervouse, with the background white noise of a small radio where ever he went.

Jon knew he shouldn't judge. Tim had sat him down and told him a far few times that he was jist as odd as Martin. The thing was though, that Jon couldn't understand why. Jon could understand why the others would be uneasy with him. Prolonged eye contact, sunken cheeks, and scared flesh from three years of working, yet Martin didn't blink twice at him. Martin jist cracked a joke about the 'fine print' set Jon's tea cup down and left.

Statements didn't phase him and no matter how much prodding Jon tried the man never opened up more then a few secentces. "Americans," Tim had said as an explaintoin one day. Shuffling paper twprds Sahsa as the woman threw small scraps at him in boredom, "The oddest fucks out there."

So Jon had come to accept that Martin K. Blackwood was an oddity. Another odd ball of life that the insatutie seemed to feed off of. Mabye an avatar, mabye a statment under the seems.

Then illness struck. Withering maggots that dug into his skin and screamed. Singing around his bone as they pulled. The basement Jon layed in was cold and dark and damp, and so perfect for the hive. It had been Yeats since Jon had truly gone home. To that old house to still rented for convince a off shore about away from town.

Then the knocking came. In short random interfaces over the horrifying children's song of the maggots he could hear gentle hands against wood. A voice always came after, but the song was sweet and warm, and the basement of the archives was never made to be welcoming.

Knocking. Knocking. Knocking. A slam into wood and the awful scrape of something on the floor, and light. So very bright light. Light that blinds, that the worms wiggle and writhe from. Pulling his eaten body with it.

"Oh dear." The voice of the knocking hand says. Soft and sweet, and Jon can taste teat in his throat.

Martin.

His mind supplies. "Well, I uh, I don't think I'm going to be fired for this so-" And arms wrapped around him. The worms fled. Danced past his skin, Jon was no longer cold. Pressed into Martin's soft blue sweater.

"She ah, Jane-" Jon's nails dig into Martin's shirt and the man hushes him softly, "Jane was quite polite! I think she ah, I think she just wants some friends."

Martin rambles. Jon Knows when he wakes once more the words will be a worry. It dosnt take an eldritch God to see that and yet he lets Martin's voice cast over him. Pull his eye lids heavy as the hum of a radio stirs with comforting words.

"Welcome to night vale." The radio hums. And Jon knows, that he is safe in another avatars arms.
