The Hawthornes as elements.

I was going to try and do the 4 natural elements but decided to expand slightly. ( I know, it's stupid)

Nash: Earth. Is it any surprise that the oldest, and most easy-going Hawthorne brother goes best with earth? People with this personality tend to be grounded, dependable, and practical. They strive for peace and harmony. On a negative note, they can give too much to others and maybe craves sweets more then they should. Nash, even though he wasn't always around, he was there for his brothers. He has more knowledge of the reality of how the world works. (Especially with the glass ballerina when he understood what the old man was saying) In TIG we can see him trying to keep the peace with brothers, especially between Jameson and Grayson. His savor complex is sometimes a blessing, but it can also be a curse. It's not cannon, but I think we can all agree Nash has a weakness for sweets.

Grayson: Ice. (I was going to go with water, but doing more research ice fits him better) This element is known for being cold, unfeeling, and logical. What better element then for cold, uninviting, Grayson Hawthorne himself? As solid as it seems, ice can crack at some point. Which we know Grayson, as strong as he may appear, has a breaking point. (As seen in the beginning of TFG and sometimes during TBH) Ice personalities are also very creative. Though not really cannon, Grayson most likely is the most artsy, if you will, out of all the brothers. His love of photography and classy style seems to hint at that. And I whole heartily believe Grayson is an exceptional painter as well. On the negative side it should come to no surprise that having very little to no emotions and being secretive and uninviting also fits Grayson as well. Honestly, if I mentioned Grayson's name most people would imagine an unsmiling, cold looking young man who hardly shows emotions with blond hair and icy blue eyes. Or is that just me? (P.S. Grayson is sooo Elsa coded. You can't convince me otherwise)

Jameson: Air. Witty, intelligent, thoughtful, caring, free spirited. Though inconsistent and selfish. Sounds right up Jameson's alley, if you know what I mean. He's witty and good natured. And just like air, he is very energetic and loves to be always moving. I mean, when is the air not moving? Just like Jameson: always in motion. When we first meet Jameson he was all about riddles and games. Trying to hide his grief. But throughout the series we see a more caring and thoughtful side to him. His love for his brothers and Avery. Though hard to see Jameson was thoughtful. (Trying to distract Grayson from meeting his father. Giving Avery a break by going on the rooftop.) Jameson isn't afraid to talk to new people and is very independent. As with air personalities, Jameson has a hard time committing to things and doesn't like to settle down. Always looking for something new, which can have negative outlooks. His recklessness could be considered selfish since he's only thinking of himself and not how others feel.

Xander: Electricity/lightning. Known for being kind, caring, and filled with energy it should come to no shock (See what I did there) that this element fits Xander Hawthorne the best. Electricity is not only energetic, but also unpredictable. Just like Xander. In TIG we found out that he was the mastermind. Carrying out the old man's plan. He is also extremely energetic. Xander is not one to sit idle, he always needs to be keeping himself busy. I think Xander is also a hard worker. On the downside his mischievousness sometimes gets the better of him and his impulsiveness. (Like blowing something up to only loose an eyebrow) This personality also loves music, which I think Xander loves as well. Though his style tends toward classical pop and rock.

Well, that's it. I hope you liked it. I do plan to do Avery and maybe Libby but I really wanted to post it tonight for you all.

My pin bag is very harmonious...

I have pins on here from Ghost Barn, Greer Strothers, Avery K, Floral Frolic, Tahoe Gifting, Komorebisan.

The rainbow snake pin was designed by Adam Vass, and I got it from Lost Lust's site but it no longer seems to be available. The gold teeth and crow hex sign were local artists who I unfortunately didn't get a business card from. The angel cake is also a shop that seems to have disappeared. Same for the moth.

The salmon I got from a shop of indigenous art in Washington. The redwing blackbird and beetle were bought on trips to state parks (Assateague and Natural Bridge). The coqui was from the airport in Puerto Rico. I got the they/them planchette from a thrift store but I think it's a mass-produced design. Might also be the case for the central illuminati pin but I got that at Tilly's ages ago so I don't recall.

personality description :: melanie is like one of those aunts that people wish they had: attentive and positive in a non-sickening way, eager to hear about your day, and ensuring a few good moments of physical contact when interacting with someone to show their interest. she lives in a permanent state of bliss fostered by her “attitude of gratitude” and easygoing life. she is chatty and likes to strike up a good conversation with someone else. something good happen lately? earn a big promotion and want someone to tell? need to vent? melanie handles it all with a delicate touch, gentle and soothing like how a mother should be.

personality description :: unapologetically herself, averie is the definition of a hot girl summer. she’s bright, beautiful, and positively glowing from the inside out, being both a force of nature and a ball of energy rolled up into one being. cherri has the uncanny ability to see the positive side of any situation, spreading her enthusiasm to everyone else through her signature infectious smile. she is known for her boundless energy and her tendency to keep things high-energy no matter the situation. her radiance touches everyone around her and inspires them to be the best version of themselves that they can be. jolene is never one to sit still for long. it's often a challenge for her to remain focused on one thing, as her mind seems to be constantly buzzing with new ideas and fun ideas.

personality description :: reserved and not one to act first, instead choosing to think over her actions to be triply sure of what she wants to do. compared to the other seasons, she’s a total wallflower: speaking up in the midst of a heavy or intense situation is the opposite of what she’d ever be willing to do. hawthorn much prefers to leave her mark in others situations by providing gentle support for those who are lonely. one of the benefits of being the invisible one is being able to pull a whole bunch of small pranks without ever being suspected of it. (nice pranks, though. camilla doesn’t want to be cruel.)

(I was very invested in the conversations so I did not write as much as I would have liked. But some critical things really stood out to me.)

The Homosocial responses/responsibilities between the men. Care-giving and demonstrating tender roles with one another. 'Unexpectedly Gendered'

Francis has not seen The Terror

The way of Knowing these people is very unique. Reading their letters and their diaries provides a particular perspective allows you to know what they really were like - more than what their fellows may have known. You see a more intimate part of these explorers through their very personal narrations through their journals and letters.

"People are clouds of possible selves." - Francis Spufford He goes on to say something along the lines of: "Which is the problem with storytelling - as a narrator of storytelling you have to decide what comes out and what fades in the background of their personality."

Empathy as a Tool for Understanding

(This part was incredibly important to me.)

Sarah goes on to explain (thereabouts): You have to Listen to people. They (people writing or creating a Narrative/Narration of events) look at a historical figure and get a "snap" of them. From there they decide that they know everything about them. From there, it's like Cinderella's shoe and the step-sister cutting off parts of her foot to make it fit. You need to let these people liver and breathe as a dynamic person with feelings and thoughts. You have to be truthful. Otherwise you are doing that person a disservice and shoving them into a specific box that is meant to just fit your Narrative. You should try and be empathetic to the individual you are writing about as if they are still alive.

Spufford goes on to extrapolate on that with (thereabouts): Finding out what people meant to themselves is important. Some things you want to keep at arms lengths but still play an intrinsic role in their character. Being empathetic to these people is critical to respecting and acknowledging them with care and showing them that you care about them.

Personal Notes and Commentary

This was my first Terror Camp in its entierty. The weekend was such a delight. I had no idea what sort of experience I would be having. It was beyond my expectations. I got to learn a lot more about some of the other Expeditions that I was not as familiar with as I would have liked to be. My book list has expanded by a decent number. Getting to listen to Nive Nielsen and Paul ready was incredible. I loved everything about this experience. I cannot wait for @terrorcamp to announce the next year's event. I will certainly be attending it without a doubt. I look forwards to future projects and staying in touch with anyone else that would like to. Thank you again for such a wonderful experience! I want to give a shoutout to the people I know of the Tumblr Urls that contributed: @brainyraccoons , @jckielantern , @nopickls , @wllipt (who was a captioner), @vivtanner , @inkonfreshnewpaper - I do not know if I missed anyone. Impressions

Rainbow operator, Jordan “Thermite” Trace, making some observations about the strangers on his base

“I can’t preach to the darkness without putting up a fight.” Daniel plucked the baseline of the song as Avery filled the melody and Joseph played the points in between. All three voices singing in low harmony.

They were enjoying a bit of downtime after their most recent mission. Staying for a few days on Hereford base in England before returning to their joint base in New York.

“And I don’t expect a savior so I’ve got to be the light!” All three were unaware of the eyes on their back as they sat a little ways outside the training fields.

Jordan didn’t really know what to think of the little group of three currently sitting just in the shadow of the fence separating the training fields from the rest of the base. Apparently they were just making a quick pit stop before heading home.

Daniel “Moose” Wilson seemed to be the one in charge of the ragtag group. At least from what jordan had seen so far. He was the one to pull the other two away from getting themselves into too much trouble. And more than once, Jordan had seen the man literally yank the other two from some of the more dangerous tech on Hereford with a rather sharp, ”Don’t.” Though there was a wild edge to the man too. Jordan had observed the little group sparring one day, and well moose certainly held his own, against the other two at the same time. He had talked to the man a grand total of once so far. The man was polite but certainly to the point. Jordan could certainly appreciate that. The man had left him with a rather neutral impression but Jordan was okay with that.

Joseph “Ferret” Payne and Avery "Storm" Scott were never seen far from each other. Enough so that Jordan had honestly thought it was similar case to Elżbieta and Zofia. The two generally brought chaos along with them where ever they so happened to wander, though a few of the more engineering inclined at Hereford didn't seem to mind them too much. Something about a wrench and a box of scrap. Though some where less inclined to welcome the chaos that the two dragged with them. That's usually when Captain Wilson would get involved. Jordan had witnessed to two spar on numerous occasions. They could constantly be found on the training mats or in the obstacle courses trying to one up each other. They rarely took the offers of others fighting them, though they took the advice pretty decently. Jordan had tried to talk to them on more than one occasion just to get a feel for them, personality wise but was near always met with either polite but strained conversation or complete silence. The two very much left the impression of hiding something but they weren't his operators so he simply let it be.

here's some symbolism shenanigans about the motif of three while we are manifesting for Moon Knight Season 2

Because observing art and being able to see similarities, differences, and the thought processes of people regardless of the time fasinates me. So naturally i have been obsessing.

(Some of the ideas might/will clash with the narrative etc. These are purely my thoughts derived from the information i gathered. For the act of discourse <3)

So in the name of a brain dump, let's read too much into things

Hauling a Boat Ashore, Honfleur - Claude Monet - 1864

To me, this painting depicts the struggle of life. Three people trying to get by and/or trying to move on as the burden of life slows them down (not so casually alluding to ''we are in the same boat'' here oops). The scenery is peaceful and everything looks beautiful yet they keep fighting. So the routine continues.

Also i think it's interesting to note that in 1864 he was 24, had already done military service and later said that experience effected his paintings dearly (And apparently Monet's second name is Oscar lol i didn't know that).

The Three Fates - Alexander Rothaug - circa 1910

In ancient Greek religion and mythology, the Moirai, a.k.a. Fates, were the incarnations of destiny, daughters of Nyx, the Night. (The word moira means “share” also related to the English word “merit”, derived from the Latin meritum, “a reward”). Generally, they were considered to be above the gods in their role as enforcers of fate.

Clotho ("spinner") spun the thread of life from her distaff onto her spindle. the youngest of the sisters, presided over the moment in which we are born, and held a distaff in her hand. Represents the present. Lachesis ("allotter") measured the thread of life allotted to each person with her measuring rod, and spun out all the events and actions of our life. Represents the future. Atropos ("the unturnable") was the cutter of the thread of life. She chose the manner of each person's death; and when their time has come. The eldest of the three, cut the thread of human life with a pair of scissors. Represents the past.

Togetherness of the three of them working together for a life is what attracted to me i think while comparing this our boys life. All of them have a different role creating different outcomes for one. Marc would be the past for obvious reasons but also because of the part about "being the chooser of the manner of death". That clicks with the fact that Marc initially made the deal with Khonshu to avoid death. Steven would be the present because we first see everything from his point of view. Clotho being the youngest also emphasizeshis his dainty character. Jake would be the future because he is unknown to everyone and we all know there is yet to come. Lachesis being "the measurer" also adds to his calculative nature.

(The equivalent of them was Maat or Maʽat, the ancient Egyptian goddess who personified the concepts of truth, balance, order, harmony, law, morality, and justice , and regulated the stars, seasons, and the actions of mortals and the deities who had brought order from chaos at the moment of creation.)

The Medieval Bestiary, The Three Hares - Avery Fenwick (on ArtStation) - 2017

It isn't an easy subject to research, as most of the stories explaining the symbology are largely speculative; there have been many attempts to find the meaning behind the 3 hares/rabbits, but there exists no record to explain the original examples.

I can however start with historical and geographical facts. The symbol appears in sacred sites from the Middle and Far East, to the churches of Devon and throughout Europe. This encompasses diverse religions and cultures, including Buddhism, Islam, Celtic, Pagan, Christianity and Judaism.

The oldest examples of the 3 hares have been found in cave temples in China, dating from the 6th and 7th centuries. Rabbits are seen as good luck signs in China, representing peace and tranquility.

Alongside this it has been used as a Pagan symbol with mystical associations with fertility, the lunar cycle and the Goddess of nature. As the symbol has striking similarities to the Triquetra, a symmetrical design of 3 interlaced arcs (literal translation '3 cornered'),

This one is just beautiful. The three of them collectively tapping on the secret of the mind sounds awfully special to me idk. And the name of the painting just adds an extra touch (hehehehehee).

Wild Sunflowers - Denis Sarazhin

Many groups associate sunflowers with prolonged constancy and loyalty, reflecting the flower bud’s tendency to follow the sun across the sky.

(don’t worry I am not going to romanticize sun and moon here or this thing will never end)

Other general sunflower meanings include focus, healing and warmth. unwavering faith and unconditional love

In Ancient Egypt, yellow was associated with gold, which was considered to be imperishable, eternal and indestructible. The skin and bones of the gods were believed to be made of gold. The Egyptians used yellow extensively in tomb paintings; they usually used either yellow ochre or the brilliant orpiment, though it was made of arsenic and was highly toxic.

The word yellow is from the Old English geolu, geolwe (oblique case), meaning "yellow, and yellowish", derived from the Proto-Germanic word gelwaz "yellow". It has the same Indo-European base, gel-, as the words gold and yell; gʰel- means both bright and gleaming, and to cry out.

I mean… loyalty, healing, indestructible, gleaming and crying out…. Should I say more about these 3 in a field of gold :,,))

Lost in Creativity - Rokas Aleliunas - 2020

I will like to think the eyes are Marc and Steven because eyes are windows into the soul blah blah and they are connected to the external as long as he’s awake. They are looking but not really seeing (wink wink). And Jake is the third hand being a cheeky bastard with that gesture and choosing to be silent and sneaky. I love Jake (give us the season 2 or elseeaaahah).

Tres Tristes Tigres - Armando Romero - 2008

This translates to Three Sad Tigers. They are supposed to be strong but instead they are miserable.

The luchador mask gives a wrestler’s a new identity and helps him create a persona. But with these figures, it coincides with the nakedness and the idea of unmasking.

Three Figures - Robert Motherwell - 1989

I see them as 3 headless man (and sharing one mind wooo) with their big black coats to disguise and talking but more like communicating through the space.

And the space is red which symbolizes the danger they feel all around them. They are not aware how freely they are able to connect through it though.

I would like the think the figures as thumb prints for some reason also idk.

Signal Quest — Hypermyth (Orange Milk

Hypermyth is audio-only virtual reality. It’s an immersive, open-ended journey through a strange and fascinating world, an environment that beckons exploration. The Signal Quest trio have hewn this uncanny landscape using analog and digital implements, crafting a craggy geology replete with crystalline, multi-hued flora. Their music reflects a fascination with 1990s computer games, specifically the unique mythology of Myst. Unlike the nascent open-world gaming experience of decades past, Signal Quest’s music flows free of technological limitation. There’s no waiting between scenes for the CD-ROM to spin up. Cole Pulice, Lynn Avery and Mitch Stahlmann create a seamless stream of sound, with breathtaking high-resolution imagery limited only by the imagination of your mind’s eye.

Pulice, Avery and Stahlmann are long-time friends and collaborators, coming from Minneapolis but now calling Oakland, California home. They’ve added their unique talents to each others’ records, such as on Avery’s Carpet Cocoon, released under the name Iceblink. That record’s warm new age vibe took on a multitude of dimensions when augmented by the alien ECM stylings of Pulice’s saxophone and Stahlmann’s flute. Equally lush but veering into more abstract territory was Avery and Pulice’s collaborative work To Live & Die in Space & Time. Its moody vibe unfurled delicately but bristled with layers of electronics. Years before those two records arrived, the trio was finding their footing, experimenting under the name LCM and creating hallucinatory sound worlds that set the stage for even bolder adventures to come.

Hypermyth is indeed Pulice, Avery, and Stahlmann’s most intrepid venture thus far. The textures are deeper, with larger cracks and crevices within which to get lost. Tones often twist and bend in many directions, like light refracting through glass. Musique concrète techniques adhere to the trio’s new age and ambient signifiers, conjuring fractalized patterns that glitch and writhe beneath Pulice and Stahlmann’s breath-modulated melodies. At times these more arcane sonorities lie beneath the surface of the trio’s soundscapes, such as on album opener “Sparkling Node Network.” In other moments, like on the ultra-short piece “moonVR” or the more drawn out “mailer-daemon.exe,” the abstract shapes infect and subsume the more delicate passages, withering and distorting the harmonies.

The musicians often find a delicate balance between pure beauty and sheer experimentation, and gentleness. Pulice, Avery, and Stahlmann have immersed themselves in a unique, unexplored sonic world, but haven’t lost themselves completely in its knotty, rough-textured depths.
