when sally rooney wrote “and it was easier and safer to stay in a bad situation than to take responsibility for getting out. Maybe, maybe. I don’t know. I tell myself that I want to live a happy life, and that the circumstances for happiness just haven’t arisen. But what if that’s not true? What if I’m the one who can’t let myself be happy? Because I’m scared, or I prefer to wallow in self-pity, or I don’t believe I deserve good things, or some other reason. Whenever something good happens to me I always find myself thinking: I wonder how long it will be until this turns out badly. And I almost want the worst to happen sooner, sooner rather than later, and if possible straight away, so at least I don’t have to feel anxious about it anymore.” in beautiful world where are you, i felt that

Does anyone have any romcom style MM books besides Red White and Royal Blue and Boyfriend Material? (Love them...but I've already read them)
I'm in the mood for a light easy read and I keep getting recommendations for ones about teenagers...I'd prefer to read about 20-30 years olds so it's not weird and unrelatable

🌙 Books for Arab American Heritage Month 🌙
🌙 Good morning, bookish bats, and Eid Mubarak to those who are celebrating. Eid al-Fitr ("the feast of breaking the fast") marks the end of Ramadan, an Islamic holy month of fasting and sacrifice. April is also Arab American Heritage month, which celebrates the 3.7 million Arab Americans across the country. This is an opportunity to combat Anti-Arab bigotry by challenging stereotypes and prejudices.
✨ One of the best ways to do so is to read books ABOUT Arab Americans. To help, here are a few books for Arab American Heritage Month you can read, discuss, or add to your ever-growing TBR!
[ List under the cut. ]
✨ Growing up, I didn't have books that represented my experiences as an Arab or Muslim American. My friends didn't have stories to read that could help them understand my perspective. With that in mind, I added children's books on the last slide, for the moms out there searching for diverse books--books that allow us to empathize and understand different perspectives and experiences.

"Finally, in a low whisper, he said, 'I think I might be a terrible person.' For a split second I believed him- I thought he was about to confess a crime, maybe a murder. Then I realised that we all think we might be terrible people. But we only reveal this before asking someone to love us. It is a kind of undressing."

I’m so pissed that June wasn’t in the movie, and that Ellen wasn’t divorced. Those were such big parts of the book and taking that away was just unnecessary. The movie was good it was just so far off from the book:

First Read of 2024!
Where The Crawdads Sing
By Delia Owens
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Synopsis:
"For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life-until the unthinkable happens."
Review:
This book was my first read for the year 2024 and I loved every bit of this book. I read this back in January so I am doing a bit of backlogging here for you guys. Anyway, I prevented myself from watching the movie on Netflix when it was trending so that I could enjoy the book first. I have always felt that the books were better than the movies, but that is just me.
Kya has become my sister, a fellow firefly if you will. She was everything I could've imagined. Beautiful, wild, and full of a strength I wish I could possess. She went through so much at such a young age and still, she overcame it all. She was the untameable. She was a force of nature.
I applaud Delia Owens and the amount of detail that went into describing the marsh that Kya had grown up in. Her work inspired me to be outside more and listen to the birds, feel the grass and soil beneath my feet, and wonder at the life around me. I even found myself listening to a nature soundtrack of the marsh just to fully immerse myself into Kya's world.
It was this sad and beautiful tale of a girl who longed for love, but at the same time could handle herself. Her community had failed her in so many different ways, but in the long run, Kya was the one who proved them all wrong. By the end of the book I found myself screaming, in the best way of course, because only great books make a person behave in such a way.
It was a great way to start off 2024.
Favorite Parts/Quotes:
"Until at last, at some unclaimed moment, the heart-pain seeped away like water into sand. Still there, but deep. Kya laid her hand upon the breathing, wet earth, and the marsh became her mother."
"...she's gone to the Lake of the Dismal Swamp, Where, all night long, by a fire-fly lamp, She paddles her white canoe. And her fire-fly lamp I soon shall see, And her paddle I soon shall hear; Long and loving our life shall be, And I'll hide the maid in a cypress tree, When the footstep of death is near."
(Sorry for the format of the above quote, it's a poem within the book).
"Looky here, hon, Ah got us a big un, big as Alabamee!"...He had called her "hon." --When I tell you I was on the brink of tears reading this part! My heart and emotions were all over the place.

so, i came back to tumblr, after all! weird to be here, i've disappeared almost everywhere, the queen of ghosting. it was for a good reason. i've been dealing with a long period of crisis, gave up 2 semesters at uni, been stuck in my bed 23h/day (not a hyperbole). finally, i feel like coming back here.
in this whole period, i haven't done too much. couldn't read, watched not so many movies/tv shows, but i did listen to a bunch of music. that kept me a bit less depressed.
i feel like i have something inside of me that is trying too hard to get out, but i don't know how to do it; it's a feeling of creation. only a few people actually feel this, like they need to create something, to put it out, but haven't found a way yet. it's stuck, and it's a whole interwork.
AND altho i know that not many people follow me, neither know who i am or whatever, but to anybody reading this and going through something bad, i hope you get better. focus on your health. it'll pass, doesn't matter when, just be strong and keep fighting. this isn't a coaching shit or self-help bad book, but for experience of someone who's dealing with way too much. everyday is a new day to begin again, until you get it.
have a really muthafuckin great day, guys. much love to you. (that's for the 2 people maybe reading this lmfao thank you for being here) 🦉🤍
