I always tell myself I will draw more, but I think I get discouraged that I don't do digital pieces. Plus, it's been years since I was drawing consistently enough for it to feel fluid (is this making sense to anyone? like I think technically my figures "look" better now than like...high school and college, but it looked Better ????in a different way because I was drawing multiple things every day, multiple times a day?)

it’s the monkeys paw. we’ll technically get brudick but it HAS to have some really annoying catch. i do think that eventually SOMETHING will happen???? something that can’t be easily explained away as fraternal or parental admiration and devotion, something really explicitly brudick.

but i think it’s highly contingent upon the american social climate toward LGBTQ+ people. DC has become more inclusive of queer characters and themes because they understand that their fanbases have queer people in them and they can make money off them (following the trend of corporations starting to cater to queer people circa 2011). but if the pendulum swings in the opposite direction (think of companies like Target rolling back their Pride Month collection because they bent to the complaints of conservatives), there is a much lower chance.

even still, implying either or both of DC’s poster children for aggressive heterosexuality could be gay would cause an uproar among DC’s target marketing demographic (straight white men). and especially now that DC want to hammer in the father & son dynamic.

outside of tumblr on the wild internet i have seen extremely homophobic takes on tim drake coming out as bisexual. the outrage if it were batman would be cataclysmic.

of all the options in my poll, i’d hope that the one that comes true is the “tiny au versions of brudick are shown in the background of a splash panel”.

confirmation of a universe where they are romantically together opens the door to exploring that universe. it would be baby steps. a pill easy to swallow. the straight white male fans would be able to say “well thats not prime earth so it means nothing.” they can still say the real batman and nightwing gets pussy exclusively, masculinity preserved another day. 🫡

the option i would dislike the most would be genderbending dick. eye-rolling in its simplicity.

or they create some backstory for dick where he is a transgender man and imply that bruce was attracted to him but only before he medically transitioned or something. their “breakup” happens and dick begins a medical transition, making it one of the reasons their relationship is fraught. they’d use it as an excuse for why dick wore a leotard when he was robin since they are evidently very embarrassed about that too. i hate this idea, by the way.

as for the most likely option, i think it would be “they do something gay and have to be disgusted/reassert their straightness right after”. it would involve some forcefully drug induced state or mind-control that would “make” them do something, and then they’d be creeped out and visibly uncomfortable that it happened. it would be used for comedic effect and not taken seriously at all. or perhaps just an offhanded reference to such an event so they don’t have to show it. something like:

“Remember that one night when Poison Ivy hit us with that mdma powder? I had such a hard time explaining to Kori why there was a love bite on my—” interrupted by Bruce being extremely bitch faced about it. dick shuts up and they never bring it up again.

It’s not just that he can’t buy the dress.

Dick’s resourceful, and he has friends—he’s sure he could convince someone to help buy it for him, if he really wanted. So he can’t use that as an excuse for why he’s just standing there, staring at the dress instead of making a plan to purchase it.

The real issue is what he wants the dress for.

A carriage clatters down the street, and he jumps and hurries away from the dressmaker’s window before anyone notices him, only to slam face-first into someone solid enough to send him sprawling backward. Hands grab him and pull him up, and he finds himself face-to-face with the king of Defiance.

Slade raises an eyebrow, looking between Dick and the dress in the window, and Dick fights back his flush as he yanks himself out of Slade’s grip and marches off.

Slade catches up with him easily. “Not very polite of you.”

“Like you’ve ever been polite,” Dick says without stopping. “What are you doing here?”

“What is everyone else doing here?”

It’s a fair response—it’s only a few days before The Ball, after all.

That’s how Dick’s thought of it, since he first heard of it. The Ball. The one where King Bruce—thirty and five, this year—will finally choose someone to rule by his side.

Invitations were sent to nobility and royalty far and wide—within Gotham, to Kandor and Themyscira, even to Defiance and Nanda Parbat. In some ways, it’s more of a political event than anything else, bringing in powerful people from far and wide to make connections and strike agreements. One will make the most powerful connection of all.

Dick doesn’t need a crystal ball to know that it won’t possibly ever be him.

It doesn’t mean he can’t dream about it, though; doesn’t mean he can’t let his eyes catch on a shimmering flash of blue and look at it and think, what if.

“Honestly, I didn’t think you’d be interested,” Dick says. “It’s not as though it’s a tournament.”

“You think I would turn down the opportunity to become King Consort of Gotham?”

Dick gives him an unimpressed look. “Yes.”

He first encountered Slade three years ago on the battlefield, trying to finish the war his son started. It ended in a truce after his second son died. Dick thought, then, that Slade was more interested in having his son back than in power, and it seemed he was right—Defiance had been a quiet neighbor ever since.

Slade smirks slightly. “My daughter was interested in the ball. I was interested in what had become of you. But it seems you have your eyes on someone else.”

Dick scowls. “Shut up.”

“I could have your tongue for that,” Slade says idly.

“Not in Gotham, you can’t.”

“Perhaps not.” Slade’s eye flashes. “Are you intending the ball as a candidate?”

“You know I can’t.”

“But you want to.”

“What I want doesn’t matter.”

“And if I could make it happen?”

Dick’s steps stutter, and he looks sidelong at Slade, who seems serious. It’s… worth considering, honestly. Slade has access to money, and magic. He could get Dick into the ball as part of Defiance’s entourage. He could give Dick everything he needs to pull this off.

But he won’t do it for free.

“What would you ask in return?” Dick says.

Slade smiles. “I’ll do everything in my power to give you every advantage you’d like,” he says. “But if at the end of this, you still aren’t the future consort of Gotham—you’ll become the future consort of Defiance instead.”

I know this has to exist and has probably been written a bunch of times, so I'm going to put this out there and hope to reel in some recs. I'm looking for a brudick fics set after the events of Batman #408 and Batman #416. In #408, the Joker shoots Robin (Dick) and Bruce essentially fires Dick and pushes him away, claiming the job is too dangerous for a child--even though Dick is 19 at this point.

In #416, Dick confronts Bruce over taking on Jason, a much younger and less experienced boy, as Robin after firing him. Bruce gets defensive, admits he misses Dick, and then asks him to leave.

Basically, I'm looking for fics where Bruce realizes he's attracted to Dick and pushes him away out of guilt. One-sided from Bruce's POV where Dick never finds out or fics where Dick finds out and reciprocates are both good, though I would prefer Bruce to be extremely reluctant and guilty throughout, it adds more flavor.

We love this year's Omega Dick Week prompts, and we're so excited to see what you all have been working on! As we enter that final stretch, we know that sometimes a small, additional push can help get us across the finish line.

With that in mind, we are so excited to be announcing completion prizes this year! The offerings are simple:

1. What made you ship it?

I think I could talk so much about how I picture their relationship and why I think there are many homoerotic tones in their relationship but mostly I got obsessed with them due to Knightfall presenting an scenario where Tim is the only bat around who is concerned about Jean-Paul and who is facing the mess next to him. The fact that in a certain way it was Tim who *made* JP Batman got me whipped.

2. What are your favorite things about the ship?

Their messy past! Knightfall is such a delicious event and I adore that JP and Tim have a lot of things only they know and only they lived. JP was the very first person to cover for Bruce as Batman, and Tim was barely begining as Robin. Tim WAS JP's Robin, and I don't think ppl talk enough about the feelings they would about it. Plus JP has a lot of catholic trauma and guilt which I think would make very hot if he dated an agnostic queer Tim.

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

As with Ra'sTim, it's mostly about the characters themselves. My perception on Jean-Paul is that he is a complex person, with trauma and pain, and I picture JeanTim as a complicated situationship. As much as I love dark scenarios, I don't really lean into making it abuse for the sake of it. For me, it's a relationship that is born after years of yearning and messy feelings, longing and hidden desires.

Certainly not the ship I'm known for but I like it!

1. What made you ship it?

Probably how kind the fandom is; opposite to other Batship fandoms, BruDick fandom has shown to be extremely nice and respectful, something that encouraged me to interact a little with their content, and I loved it. Bruce and Dick might not be my favs but I adore their trope as a ship and I think they CANONICALLY have an homoerotic subtone. There's a reason Batman & Robin were used as gay code for so many years, and ir was due to Bruce and Dick and their marriage!

2. What are your favorite things about the ship?

Definitely the fandom. As I said, ppl on BruDick fandom are extremely nice. You can open a fic or fan comic and not be worried about unnecessary hate because they don't rely on that. In fact, many BruDick media treats other characters with kindness and respect as well: It's so comforting to see BruDick fandom being so respectful to Bruce's female love interests in canon, as sexism is sadly a problem in BL fandom. When I see BruDick, I don't have to swallow the bitterness of seeing sexist stuff, or hate towards other bat children.

Also BruDick introduced me to the idea of Tim being their bio son and that makes me feral 🙏

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

Probably not? I usually agree with most of their depictions. I personally don't mind if they're messy tho, because I see characters as dolls. If anything my problem is that I'm very bad at writing Dick because he is an awfully human character (he's not as frozen into an archetype as Tim, Jean-Paul, Ra's, Jason, Kon, Lex) which makes him a headache for me because I struggle trying to imagine how he would feel like. Hence why I mostly do BruDick as background and not as main in my fics.
