Technically, I was supposed to post art from a different fandom today, but when I saw the ask, welp, no one can blame me for pushing it to tomorrow.

Though in the middle of sketching, I started making a playlist for those two too. So fun stuff that explains the lyrics in this art haha!

Yes, 10000% yes

Dazai has abused Akutagawa physically, mentally, emotionally... he took him in from the street and conditioned him into a living weapon who's only value in life is to serve the port mafia and Dazai himself. He beat him, shot him, made him completely dependant on his approval and then abandoned him without a word.

But an important point, none of this is me saying I don't like Dazai or that you shouln't like Dazai because he abused Akutagawa. Morally almost every bsd characrter is many levels of fucked up and that's a big part of why I love the series.

Their dynamic is one of the most important in the entire series, Akutagawa represents a perfect mirror to atsushi as well as being a stark reminder of Dazai's past. Dazai treated Akutagawa the way he did to make him stronger and a more useful asset to the mafia, it wasn't personal but that doesn't make it less cruel.

I'm going to go more indepth into this in a future post about their relationship as a whole.

But basically, was Dazai abusive? yes! Is that the be all end all? no.

6. What's something you have in common with this character?

We both love Odasaku more than anything

7. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like?

It's hard to generalize the bsd fandom I find... I admit I only really haunt a very small corner of it, and most people there have similar interpretations of the character as I do, so I guess I do like that, generally.

More broadly speaking, I very much enjoy how much the fandom likes to see him suffer. He's a wonderful stress ball, and I love seeing him squeezed until he almost pops hehe. There's also a lot of absolutely fantastic angsty art of him.

8. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?

Sigh where do I start... the mischaracterization is so bad in large parts of the fandom, and Dazai's is especially egregious to me, because I feel like he's not that hard to understand? But it really feels like a lot of the fandom loves to go for the most uncharitable interpretation of his character. I've seen a lot of takes that boil down to "he's just irredeemably evil and always has been", which, like. I know the level of reading comprehension in the bsd fandom at large is ironically low, but come the fuck on.

11. Would you date this character?

Absolutely the fuck not.

12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?

Ooh I have several about his early life that I'm not gonna talk about since they would be spoilery for the Refuge-verse. So I'll just go for something more general.

I hc Dazai as demiromantic, to the point that he himself for a long time thought he was incapable of love (until he met a certainly someone). He disassociates sex from love altogether, and sees sex as a tool to get what he wants rather than a truly intimate sensual experience. He probably learned this pretty early in life.

16. What's your least favorite ship for this character?

Oh anon you just had to put me on blast didn't you? Alright then, I'll come right out and say it.

I really really don't care for romantic Soukoku.

18. A relationship they have in canon with another character that you admire?

It kinda feels like cheating to say Odasaku, doesn't it? So I'm not gonna.

I really adore both the relationships Dazai has with Atsushi and Kunikida. Atsushi and Dazai have this really wholesome bond where it kinda feels like they're constantly keep trying to figure each other out and learn from each other. Meanwhile, Kunikida is kind of a reliable point that Dazai can depend on. I honestly adore these 3 together, it's a shame we don't get nearly enough of them in canon.

It's the chuusano fic idea we spoke about the other day! (I'm so hyped over it hhh) It's definitely angsty, I'm going to make them feel sadness, and PTSD that'll gnaw at them for days after that (*hysterical giggles* ErieffectErieffectErieffect aaabsbdb). Once I get to that scene, it's over for y'all.

The title is based on flower language! I was looking through flower meanings when I came upon Ivies, which symbolise: Affection, friendship, and fidelity. I figured that they described them very well; they're both affectionate in their own ways. Chūya is loyal to a fault, and Yosano is endlessly loyal to Fukuzawa, and the agency. It felt right giving them this flower. I didn't call them vines for nothing though; they're not vines if not coated with thorns. (They both have a sad history with friendships, Chūya in more ways than one. Loyalty was Chūya's downfall, and his friends' loyalty was theirs.) I felt like these factors would help them find a connection to each other, that along with their similar tastes, and beliefs.

For some context, the three dots mean that I should probably add a sentence in there to make these relevant to each other. It's kinda cluncky in some places (the sentences are either a little too long or needlessly stretched out 😭😭) but I'll eventually give it a small rewrite.

Hi there anon! Course I can! Thank you so so much for participating in Raven's Special and here is the short fic Not My Soulmate. I had so many ideas for Soulmate AU but those became far too long. So I decided not to over complicate it and wrote this little piece that is just a few words shy of a thousand (So just just within the word limit!) [CONTEXT]

Exactly! Akutagawa would be absolutely torn. He refuses to care about Atsushi, yet seeing Dazai "betray" him would make his blood boil. The idea that Dazai is supposed to favor Atsushi, only to be disloyal, is completely unthinkable.

At first, he’d try to brush it off. Why should he care about the jinko’s feelings? But the thought lingers, festering and shimmering like a boiling soup. Then, one day, he sees Dazai shamelessly flirting with some woman (again), and something inside him snaps. He's seething.

Eventually, he just has to say something. He corners Dazai, practically snarling, “How could you humiliate your own subordinate like this?!” Meanwhile, Atsushi, who has no idea what’s going on, just stares, baffled.

What really sells it is Akutagawa’s sheer indignation. If he later catches Atsushi acting normal around Dazai, he might even get angrier, thinking, “He knows, and he’s just accepting this? Pathetic.” He could even start lecturing Atsushi about "not being weak willed in the face of betrayal," which only confuses Atsushi more.

Then enter Chuuya.

Akutagawa, still fuming, decides he needs guidance from someone who actually understands loyalty.

I've had a question lurking in my mind for a while about how chuuya would've reacted if he figured out he wasn’t human and rimbaud's last words in SB.

What would change about him? How would he have reacted to that?

Honestly I think Chuuya would be affected but much much less then Verlaine was. We see that Chuuya was willing to give up ever knowing weather he was human or not when he used corruption against Guirvre.

I think Chuuya sort of overcame his issues with being "inhuman" over the course of the book, I think him seeing Verlaine's struggle with his humanity sort of put things in perspective and Chuuya realised that he cares more about belonging then being human, and the mafia would accept him either way.

His reaction would probably be to brush it off if he found out in front of anyone, he would act completely unbothered and say it never really mattered if he was human as long as he can be useful to the mafia. But I think it would 100% keep him up at night for a long time, not full mental breakdown but just general existential struggling
